Book Blurb: He’s the devil. And she’s his wicked game. An enemies-to-lovers dark romance with a thrilling twist from the disturbed mind that brought you the Darkly, Madly Duet. Halen: They say eyes are the windows to the soul—but when he looks at me through hues of slate-green and flaring blue embers, I’m terrified of what’s watching me from behind his clashing gaze, something primal and feverish that threatens to melt me like fire in ice. I fear falling into Kallum Locke’s pitch-black soul. But after I’m called to a crime scene to investigate the most gruesome act of violence to descend on the legendary town of Hollow’s Row, I have no choice but to turn to Kallum, to the man I had locked away in an asylum for the criminally insane. He’s the leading expert on all things Nietzsche and occult. And now, to get answers, I’m forced to make a deal with the devil himself. Kallum: Really, eyes are the windows to the soul? Then I wonder what little Halen St. James thinks of all the cryptic eyes watching her in the killing fields… I wonder if the hairs on her delicate nape lifted away, if a thrilling shiver raced over her soft skin. She’s desperate for the answer, and she’ll do anything to uncover it—even make a deal with me, dangling freedom like bait on a hook. But she’s far more tempting to sink my teeth into than any lure. And the pain will taste twice as sweet. CW: Serial killers. Crime scenes. Dark themes. Violence. Murder. Blood and sharp object play. Occult references. Loss of loved ones. As this is dark romance, there are likely other dark themes and situations, so please read responsibly.
Review:
For fans of the Clarice x Hannibal or Will x Hannibal pairing, this is the ULTIMATE book for you. I ATE THIS BOOK UP. A enemies to lovers story about a potential killer and a criminal profiler who are forced to work together to catch a ritualistic killer while dealing with their obsession and yearning for each other? This is so good. Halen is a criminal profiler/psychologist who is grieving the loss of her fiance and child, she's consumed by her cases, particularly the case of Kallum Locke, a handsome professor who is involved int he Harbinger killer case... she put him away... but now she needs his knowledge to catch a new killer. Kallum was obsessed with Halen from the moment he met her, her pain, her grief, is the muse he wants. He'll do anything for her, to be near her, to taste her, and to play the game that their dynamic has brought forth. He knows she's desperate for answers to the Harbinger killer case and that she thinks its him, but he'll bide his time and play his hand, all so he can capture her for himself. This is the first book in a series and I can't wait to start the second one!!

Book bad boys throw more red flags than a ref but man, I can't get enough of them. Sign me up for some Kallum Locke.
spookyrevioos took this perfectly moody picture of our Kallum candle which was inspired by the Trisha Wolfe book "Lovely Bad Things". I made this candle with scenes noted directly in the book: spicy sandalwood. This candle is one I can burn everyday and not get tired of it. Definitely sets the book reading mood.
All of our Trisha Wolfe blends are officially licensed with the author.

because sometimes there are invisible tests and invisible rules and you're just supposed to ... know the rule. someone you thought of as a friend asks you for book recommendations, so you give her a list of like 30 books, each with a brief blurb and why you like it. later, you find out she screenshotted the list and send it out to a group chat with the note: what an absolute freak can you believe this. you saw the responses: emojis where people are rolling over laughing. too much and obsessive and actually kind of creepy in the comments. you thought you'd been doing the right thing. she'd asked, right? an invisible rule: this is what happens when you get too excited.
you aren't supposed to laugh at your own jokes, so you don't, but then you're too serious. you're not supposed to be too loud, but then people say you're too quiet. you aren't supposed to get passionate about things, but then you're shy, boring. you aren't supposed to talk too much, but then people are mad when you're not good at replying.
you fold yourself into a prettier paper crane. since you never know what is "selfish" and what is "charity," you give yourself over, fully. you'd rather be empty and over-generous - you'd rather eat your own boundaries than have even one person believe that you're mean. since you don't know what the thing is that will make them hate you, you simply scrub yourself clean of any form of roughness. if you are perfect and smiling and funny, they can love you. if you are always there for them and never admit what's happening and never mention your past and never make them uncomfortable - you can make up for it. you can earn it.
don't fuck up. they're all testing you, always. they're tolerating you. whatever secret club happened, over a summer somewhere - during some activity you didn't get to attend - everyone else just... figured it out. like they got some kind of award or examination that allowed them to know how-to-be-normal. how to fit. and for the rest of your life, you've been playing catch-up. you've been trying to prove that - haha! you get it! that the joke they're telling, the people they are, the manual they got- yeah, you've totally read it.
if you can just divide yourself in two - the lovable one, and the one that is you - you can do this. you can walk the line. they can laugh and accept you. if you are always-balanced, never burdensome, a delight to have in class, champagne and glittering and never gawky or florescent or god-forbid cringe: you can get away with it.
you stare at your therapist, whom you can make jokes with, and who laughs at your jokes, because you are so fucking good at people-pleasing. you smile at her, and she asks you how you're doing, and you automatically say i'm good, thanks, how are you? while the answer swims somewhere in your little lizard brain:
how long have you been doing this now? mastering the art of your body and mind like you're piloting a puppet. has it worked? what do you mean that all you feel is... just exhausted. pick yourself up, the tightrope has no net. after all, you're cheating, somehow, but nobody seems to know you actually flunked the test. it's working!
aren't you happy yet?

📚New Reads: Lovely Bad Things 📚
Tumblr media
Okay this book!! NO GUYS SERIOUSLY THIS BOOK! Took me a while to get use to the writing style of course but once i got into the hang of the poetry/riddle like form I loved it .
Kallum I feel for him once I learned he was a sadist Lmao (are we surprised) his obsessive thoughts lured me in the way he calls Haley sweetness. We know he’s obsessed but is he obsessed enough to want to end her? WE DONT KNOW. I couldn’t tell. It’s like he wants her so much he wants to literally consume her and I would love to read every single bit of it !
Literally how obsessed with someone do you have to be to let someone put you away for the crime they committed?! There’s so many twists and turns to the story I enjoyed it . Enough to read the next book? Ehhh to be determined. It was just enough spicy and angst to keep me reading.
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3.5/5
Okay next I’m ready for a series guys I can’t wait to give you guys a review I think I’ll be able to finish the new trilogy before the end of the month if it keeps my attention lol!
See ya next read freaks and geeks xoxo 💋

gotta say I am a huge sucker for how Adventure Time will sometimes just cut to Princess Bubblegum doing something extremely morally dubious like cutting off a tiny person’s limbs with scissors and then sticking those arms and legs onto another tiny person’s limb stumps but then she'll turn around and go like "Good morning, Finn! Are you ready for a sploinking day?" and whatever atrocities she had just been committing will Never be brought up again.

Honestly the cliche advice is true. If you fill your life w things you’re passionate about, if you challenge yourself every day, if you give your own opinion of yourself more weight than you do other people’s opinions of you, you will actually thrive. Like no one can tell u anything

I love how on Tumblr, "media literacy" has become "Um, just because someone writes about this doesn't mean they're endorsing this. I hate all these media puritans ruining everything."
I'm sad to inform you that knowing when and whether an author is endorsing something, implying something, saying something, is also part of media literacy. Knowing when they are doing this and when they're not is part of media literacy. Assuming that no author has ever endorsed a bad thing is how you fall for proper gander. It's not media literacy to always assume that nobody ever has agreed with the morally reprehensible ideas in their work.
Sometimes, authors are endorsing something, and you need to be aware when that happens, and you also need to be aware when you're doing it as an author. All media isn't horny dubcon fanfic where you and the author know it's problematic IRL but you get off to it in the privacy of your brain. Sometimes very smart people can convince you of something that'll hurt others in the real world. Sometimes very dumb people will romanticize something without realizing they're doing it and you'll be caught up in it without realizing that you are.
Being aware of this is also media literacy. Being aware of the narrative tools used to affect your thinking is media literacy. Deciding on your own whether you agree with an author or not is media literacy. Enjoying characters doing bad things and allowing authors to create flawed or cruel characters for the sake of a story is perfectly fine, but it is not the same as being media literate. Being smug about how you never think an author has bad intentions tells me you're edgy, not that you're media literate. You can't use one rule to apply to all media. That's not how media literacy works. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Aheem heem. Anyway.
