the older I get, the more the technological changes I've lived through as a millennial feel bizarre to me. we had computers in my primary school classroom; I first learned to type on a typewriter. I had a cellphone as a teenager, but still needed a physical train timetable. my parents listened to LP records when I was growing up; meanwhile, my childhood cassette tape collection became a CD collection, until I started downloading mp3s on kazaa over our 56k modem internet connection to play in winamp on my desktop computer, and now my laptop doesn't even have a disc tray. I used to save my word documents on floppy discs. I grew up using the rotary phone at my grandparents' house and our wall-connected landline; my mother's first cellphone was so big, we called it The Brick. I once took my desktop computer - monitor, tower and all - on the train to attend a LAN party at a friend's house where we had to connect to the internet with physical cables to play together, and where one friend's massive CRT monitor wouldn't fit on any available table. as kids, we used to make concertina caterpillars in class with the punctured and perforated paper strips that were left over whenever anything was printed on the room's dot matrix printer, which was outdated by the time I was in high school. VHS tapes became DVDs, and you could still rent both at the local video store when I was first married, but those shops all died out within the next six years. my facebook account predates the iphone camera - I used to carry around a separate digital camera and manually upload photos to the computer in order to post them; there are rolls of undeveloped film from my childhood still in envelopes from the chemist's in my childhood photo albums. I have a photo album from my wedding, but no physical albums of my child; by then, we were all posting online, and now that's a decade's worth of pictures I'd have to sort through manually in order to create one. there are video games I tell my son about but can't ever show him because the consoles they used to run on are all obsolete and the games were never remastered for the new ones that don't have the requisite backwards compatibility. I used to have a walkman for car trips as a kid; then I had a discman and a plastic hardshell case of CDs to carry around as a teenager; later, a friend gave my husband and I engraved matching ipods as a wedding present, and we used them both until they stopped working; now they're obsolete. today I texted my mother, who was born in 1950, a tiktok upload of an instructional video for girls from 1956 on how to look after their hair and nails and fold their clothes. my father was born four years after the invention of colour televison; he worked in radio and print journalism, and in the years before his health declined, even though he logically understood that newspapers existed online, he would clip out articles from the physical paper, put them in an envelope and mail them to me overseas if he wanted me to read them. and now I hold the world in a glass-faced rectangle, and I have access to everything and ownership of nothing, and everything I write online can potentially be wiped out at the drop of a hat by the ego of an idiot manchild billionaire. as a child, I wore a watch, but like most of my generation, I stopped when cellphones started telling us the time and they became redundant. now, my son wears a smartwatch so we can call him home from playing in the neighbourhood park, and there's a tanline on his wrist ike the one I haven't had since the age of fifteen. and I wonder: what will 2030 look like?

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month: KEVIN MIYAZAKI

Today we highlight Milwaukee-based photographer and artist Kevin Miyazaki, and his book A Guide to Modern Camp Homes: 10 New Models & Plans for Persons of Japanese Ancestry. Our copy was published in 2024, but editions were also released in 2013, and 2018. Miyazaki’s statement on the final page characterizes the book as “a fictional publication containing only facts.” Styled after Sears Roebuck catalogues of the time, the optimistic salesmanship stands in harsh contrast to both the bleak descriptions of the camps, where Japanese Americans were forcibly relocated during World War II, and the heavy legacy of our nation’s human rights abuses. In a section titled Home Design, the copy assures: “Constructed mainly from wood and tar paper, your new home is designed to conform to international law.”

The book draws extensively from archival materials. Photographs come from the catalogues of the Library of Congress and include documentary work by Ansel Adams, Clem Albers, Fred Clark, Hikaru Iwasaki, Dorothea Lange, Tom Parker and Francis Stewart. First person testimonials are from Densho, a public history project documenting and preserving oral histories and primary source materials related to the unjust incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. Libby and Patrick Castro of LP/ws Design Studio crafted the architectural designs.

Okay. I can’t hold back anymore, I must share this FANTASTIC commission crafted by the amazing @aliasnnmknt!!

A couple of weeks ago, I reached out to Teri to see if she could help me bring an idea to life. This was the first time I’d ever commissioned an idea including an original character/MC, and watching Teri turn my scattered descriptions and references into the EXACT vision I had for this character was like witnessing magic. And we all know Teri’s depictions of Nanami are always A1 (and if you don’t know, you must check out her page, yesterday lol).

The level of detail she managed to incorporate in this is truly incredible, from the braids and the charms, to the sheet music, to the specific vinyl LPs! The mood captured here, in the facial expressions, in the posture and overall body language is immaculate and so true to what I wanted to convey.

I feel so blessed to have been able to collaborate with such a talented artist and to add such a wonderful illustration to this little idea that has been trotting in my mind for a while. I keep staring at it in awe and I am using it as fuel as I put the finishing touches to this story.

Working on this was such a delight, Teri is so kind, patient and incredibly quick! Thank you @aliasnnmknt, for taking my request and for crafting such a lovely piece! Anyone reading this, run, don’t walk to her blog — she delivers banger after banger after banger!

This concept is based on an upcoming Nanami x Reader fic of mine titled Syncopation. It’s a story that tackles themes that are so meaningful to me, such as combatting stifled creativity, finding purpose in life, and learning to accept love, and it’s all set against a backdrop of modal jazz music as a genre.

I’ll be posting it in the upcoming days, in the meantime, I’ve put a snippet below, if you’d like a sneak peek:

- didn’t understand trinkets and why they were so popular until she took you to the mall for the first time and watch you spend so much money on blond boxes and small tiny things that made you smile. you even got matching keychains and she never leaves the house without it

- when she first visited your house and went into your room, she was flash banged by how bright your decorations are. you defo recreated the “my strong masculine partner taking a nap in my princess bed” when she took a nap in your nest of plushies, pillows and blankets

- loves doing photo booths w you omg she will get on her knees and beg (u don’t take much convincing, ur already sitting in the booth waiting for her)

- god forbit she takes u to an arcade. she will play all the shooting games for you and win you all the prizes in claw machines. you one times surprised her by winning one she couldn’t get; her ego was bruised a little bit but a few “my strong handsome ellie” and kisses were like ice to the wound

- you definitely recreated the “putting a face mask on my boyfriend” thing after she came up and swiped her finger over your freshly applied clay mask - cut to you reapplying the layer she messed up and her sitting in the tub w a pink headband and the face mask all over her face

- borrowing (stealing) her band shirts to wear to bed or on a lazy day out where u don’t care enough to actually get dressed

- is ur professional photographer

- if u collect figures, she’s totally gonna pose her own action figures w them there’s like no escaping that

- wants to watch horror w u bc she wants to protect u but she ends up smushed in ur neck while ur still eating popcorn and giggling at the movie

- loves when u watch her game, you act like siblings yelling at each other and making dumb commentary (example from my fav game silent hill 2 that actually happened between me and my friend: “where do i go..?” “left” *checks map and turns the wrong way* “LEFT YOU DUMB HO”)

- she loves taking u to concerts only to watch you go ham on the lyrics during the live performance. she has an entire album full of dumb videos of you singing at a concert and screaming

- she falls asleep first almost every time. she has to yell at u to put ur phone down bc its too bright. she had to literally go dead weight on you to get you to sleep

- u make her keychains bc its always fun to watch her reaction - she has an entire peg board full of the things you’ve made her

I really do like it when they just spend time in each other's company (I think my posts make that very obvious HAHHA)

But even the way they interact w each other is so important to me, especially Drake cause it's shown very clearly through his character that he doesn't particularly tolerate people unless they're inside his little circle–and even then, he tends to lose his temper or ignore them from time to time. While he does do that with Lp, numerous times he apologised and tried to tone his frustrations down for his sake, which, the fact that Drake goes through that effort speaks volumes. (YALLL...)

Just in general, their abilities to be together without getting tired is nice, Launchpad is really the only person Drake allows to be a part of both lives;crime fighting and civilian. With Morgana he mainly only wants to see her as 'Darkwing', with Gosalyn and Honker, he would prefer they stay out of his work and stay safe–Launchpad on the other hand, is in both worlds, which truly just goes to show how much they trust each other. (Y'all that's my favourite little detail ever)

Defending Penny from Pokemon

No, Penny isn't a terrorist who's malicious and some kind of evil genius who is on the same manipulation level of Ghetsis.

This isn't an attack on the person who made the post, it's more of a counter argument. Don't harass others, and be respectful.

"Penny is a terrorist group/started on by making Team Star!!"

Penny first made Team Star as a way to combat the bullies who were well, bullying her. I am a victim of bullying myself, and Penny had more guts to stand up than I ever did.

However, it went too far, with the Team Star captains driving the bullies away. Penny REALIZED she fucked up. She realized that and told the Team Star captains that they need to stop because of how they damaged their reputation. And when that didn't work, Penny asked the MC to take down the bosses so the bullies couldn't leave in fear like she did, and the Team Star captains won't be expelled. Penny KNEW she messed up, and WANTED TO FIX IT.

If Penny was like "Oh the bullies are gone! Yay! Now let's take over the school!" Then I can understand your reaction. But she didn't act like that. She wanted to fix things.

"She really only started Team Star just so she could have a friend group of misfits like her!"

Wow, who would've thought that a group of kids who can relate to the issues of being bullied would join a team to bond together?

Seriously, human connection is a thing. Like, Penny could relate to the other outcasts in school. All of the Team Star captains were bullied, and that was something she could relate to. Like "Oh, you've been bullied! Same here!"

It wasn't just "GRRR WHY IS NO ONE MY FRIEND I AM GOING TO BECOME A TERRORIST AND MAKE THESE PEOPLE MY FRIENDS" because that's what Penny is like apparently.

Context clues and media literacy is important.

"Penny is a criminal because she hacked into the League and Deservers jail time!"

Okay, out of all the takes, this is one that I can agree on.

I do agree that Penny deserves SOME kind of pushback for hacking into the League Point system and stealing from them. However, she is still a child, albeit teenager, and should at least get something inbetween of slap on the wrist and jail time.

There are options between nothing and going nuclear. Chill.

Though, on that topic, Penny isn't gonna be like "LET'S HACK INTO THE GOVERNMENT FOR FUNSIES" because she knows that's a bad idea. The only reason she hacked into the League Point system was to give the MC LP for taking down Team Star bosses. She wasn't doing it out of malicious intent.

And she even STATED that she herself should get more of an extreme punishment. This is more a fault of the game for letting her get away rather than Penny herself saying she should get away with this.

In short, you're allowed to hate a character. But exaggerating what they did without showing the context of it all, it just makes you look bad.

In 2023, right before Jimin's debut solo album was released, BigHit producer PDogg displayed and posted a comment that has been lingering in my mind since I heard about it.

The image is from PDogg's Instagram Story - March 14, 2023 - that started by announcing the coming of Jimin's 1st pre-release song, Set Me Free, Part2, from his 1st solo album, then ended by foretelling what he felt was about to come, once the album was released.

I continually wondered since then what PDogg saw, heard, and experienced with Jimin that caused him to make such a statement. Even after I heard Jimin's first solo album (FACE), which was undeniably vulnerable and exceptionally good, especially for a debut album that Jimin participated in writing, composing and producing, I still wondered why PDogg made such a bold prediction about Jimin and his work. PDogg has been around for a long while and has seen successful albums before. He has been responsible for a large number of BTS's impactful and triumphant songs and albums. Yet Jimin's solo music is what inspired his declaration.

Once Jimin became the first Korean soloist ever to debut #1 on Billboard's Hot100 chart (2nd Asian soloist in 62 years), I wondered if that was what PDogg meant. It was a huge, unique accomplishment that no one (except maybe PDogg) expected. Ok. That sort of made sense. It still didn't quite fit the extent of the comment to me, but it was a reasonable consideration. However, the achievements for FACE and his single, Like Crazy, kept coming, in spite of the many obstacles in its way. I considered if maybe these were also part of PDogg's thoughts. Still, it didn't quite fully satisfy my questioning.

PDogg obviously had a fuller view of the bigger picture than we did at that point, considering that his statement was made before the public even knew there was a 2nd album of revelation to come. Finally, while Jimin was then away serving in the military, with NO opportunity to promote in person, his 2nd co-written, co-produced, co-composed solo album (MUSE) was released. PDogg knew that the 2 shorter EP's were actually supposed to have been combined to be released as 1 longer LP, but plans changed.

With this 2nd album, in addition to being the first soloist to win a daesang (grand prize) at MAMA in a decade and the first soloist to win that particular daesang at all, Jimin made and broke all kinds of records all over the world and achieved many other accomplishments with MUSE and his single, Who. He eventually broke a 12-year record of having the longest charting KPop song on the Hot100 chart in history, surpassing his own group at the very top.

AAAaaaah! What PDogg meant finally hit me. I finally understood.

If you don't recall PDogg's prediction, it translated to the fact that he felt Jimin would "end" KPop.

I can only imagine the comments and thoughts that are being formed in some minds to diminish or refute this sentiment, but they don't matter. I didn't say it. Jimin didn't say it. An experienced, successful producer, who worked directly with Jimin to create the work, said it. You don't have to like or even agree with it, but from his experience and instinct, PDogg knew Jimin had created something that would make an impact on KPop. Considering the many awards & chart placements, as well as the decades-long records Jimin has broken while being underpromoted and/or absent, I would say PDogg's statement was accurate.

However you interpret the word "end", Jimin did, in fact, fundamentally change something within KPop with his work and with the extent and circumstances of his success, in spite of everything.  It is likely that some of Jimin’s effects on KPop are presently unseen but are still yet to come. Time will tell.

Regardless of any comments or thoughts or future achievements, Jimin's debut accomplishments remain, and many will remain forever in the history books because no one can beat the first.

Congratulations to Jimin. Thank you to Jimin's fans, who persevered through it all, and much gratitude to general listeners. Together, you helped Jimin "end KPop" with a flair.

We have seen so many analysis of this great MV of JImin's. Love it. Who knows if Jimin had a hand in the subtitles and the thought processes of the set design et al....it is well executed and he is beautiful...absolutely stunning. Lucky JK.

Coming to your ask, I’m not sure I fully got it (the part about the subs). But I think you meant that ‘who is my heart waiting for’ had a question mark in some timestamps and not in others you quoted above? Is that it? For me though, the CC subs showed it without a question mark throughout the song.

Now onto the second part of the ask, you're right! I agree!!!

At the 2:10 mark, when Jimin sings 'who is my heart waiting for,' you can see all the dancers—both male and female—walk away, while Jimin moves toward the screen. A board then falls onto his path, like an answer to his question.

On the board, we notice three things. The upper part of a person’s face, the words 'keep going,' and 'Who.'

Throughout the song, Jimin sings about finding a woman but the face on that board is unmistakably, undeniably that of a man. It’s plain, clear, and simple. And Jimin didn’t make it hard for us to figure out who it is either. It’s the eyes that give him away—Jungkook’s most striking feature. Those wide, doe eyes that stand out even in a crowd, even when he’s completely covered sans a sunglass. That’s the giveaway. And Jimin made sure we caught the message when he chose to show those exact eyes on the board, didn’t he?

The 'Who' on the board, placed right next to the face, works like an arrow or a pointer—as if saying, "This is the person in question", just in case it wasn’t already clear.

Now moving on to 'Keep going.' Be honest, who pops into your mind when you hear that? For me, it's always Jimin. Like clockwork, there's this automatic voice in my head every time I hear those words. It goes like this:

So, the 'keep going' in the board represents Jimin. And it's like he's saying "This is the one my heart was looking for. Its him".

By quoting this exact phrase, a phrase he wants to tell his debut self maybe he's also implying that that's when it all started. From the time he met Jungkook. We all know he had a very soft and affectionate side towards Jungkook.

The song goes on, and as 'rewind' appears on the screen, he sings, "Who is my heart waiting for?" Is he asking us to rewind to find the answer to his question? Because when the footage plays back, the person on the board becomes the quiet answer to his question—revealed through the rewind.

And now to talk about LP. From a music point of view LP is the short form for Long Play. It refers to a full length album as opposed to EP (Extended Play) which is shorter.

Now let's infuse "Who is my heart waiting for" in the context of an LP.

"Who is my heart waiting for"? in a Long Play/LP Setting can suggest:

1) His heart is on a long emotional journey, not just a quick fling or fleeting feeling.

2) Love, for him, is something slow-building, meaningful, and lasting like an LP that unfolds track by track.

So this line becomes more than a question. It's a longing woven into a life-sized love story, with patience, depth, and emotional build-up, just like an LP.

The backward running timer probably has the same meaning as rewind.

I hope I have touched all the points mentioned in your ask.

While I’m at it, I want to touch on something else. I’ve got a few asks about whether the sexy choreo in the MV symbolizes Jimin’s experiences with women, specifically, in a sexual sense.

This is my own opinion based on his own words and what I’ve come to understand over time.

I truly believe Jimin’s first serious relationship has been with Jungkook. He moved to Seoul in May 2012 at just 16. He only had six months to train before debut. His focus back then was razor-sharp—his only goal was to chase his dream, debut, and build a career.

We’ve seen how intense he gets when he sets his mind to something—just look at how he poured himself into his solo album. Remember when Jimin said in an interview that he was so determined to succeed, even if it was not with BTS? He was referring to his trainee days because he was always on the edge of getting eliminated.

Dating, whether casual or serious, just didn’t seem to be part of his world back then. And with the way he was sacrificing sleep (he said he only slept for 2.5 hours), going on dates probably wasn’t even a possibility.

I remember him once saying that in high school, he had a crush on a girl and that he wanted to talk to her but he got so nervous he started sweating and couldn’t get a single word out. This is also something he said:

He said this in 2014. This is not something a guy would say if he's had lots of dating/sexual experience.

Also, Namjoon and Hoseok named Jimin as the member who was the most innocent when it came to dating. This was in a radio interview from 2014.

He himself said that the macho guy image he had in front of the cam was because of the role assigned to him.

Even after he debuted I don't think he had the time to go out and meet new people even if he wanted to. Jimin and Jungkook themselves have said how both of them used to lay a blanket outside and sleep there while other members slept in their own beds. This is because they wanted to get up early for practice. Their schedules were very hectic like that and on top of that they both are perfectionists who set high goals and expectations for themselves.

Also, probably by this time he started catching feelings for Jungkook.

Jimin has said that he's attracted to cute and weird charms and here is a very short compilation of Jimin saying that Jungkook is cute:

He’s also said he wants to love one person and spend forever with them. I think people with that mindset tend to wait patiently for the right one, rather than jumping from person to person without really caring if it’s something lasting.

tumblr, I have to apologize. somehow in 2019 I really just wasn't posting regularly and thus I failed to share something huge and significant with you - something fanged and furred and wild and haunted and free -- something lupine and transformative - Wolfspell.

Wolfspell is a tabletop rpg by Epidiah Ravachol, that I had the honour of illustrating in this most inspired of formats, the trifold LP case. (no LP included - please add your own soundtrack fo choice at the table!)

Who is Epidiah? You might know him from the epic storytelling game Swords Without Master, or the Jenga-powered horror game Dread.

But back to the wolves:

Epidiah’s Wolfspell is a game where you tell the stories of rogues, adventurers, warriors and travelers who have been turned into wolves and must achieve their vengeance, source their treasure, or escape their fate as wolves before they can return to their human forms.

As a player in Wolfspell, you are torn between your wolf side and your human side, pitting a wolf die against a blood die on every roll. Working as a pack will keep you safest; a lone wolf might not survive to tell their tale.

As the GM in Wolfspell you are called Winter, and you bring your wrath down on those who have earned it through failed rolls and dangerous choices, while you add challenges, magic and snow to your players’ story.

This game feels epic and haunting to play; communicating through the language and senses of wolves adds a flavour of strangeness and surprise to already solid sword and sorcery tales.

If you seek to feel the wind in your fur, to wrestle with your human and animal instincts - and to find where both, at their core, are the same - to see wonders, embark on quests, solve mysteries, and vanquish foes, all while wrestling against the cruel strength of winter's wrath - this is the game for you.

Painting this is one of my proudest projects and I don't know HOW i failed to share it here on Tumblr before, but, hey! if you like wolves, better late than never!
