THE HEALER
CHAPTER THREEVISIONSitting on an armless chair and carrying a male child on my lap, l surveyed the environment. My eyes caught a monkey jumping from a palm tree to a cashew tree, and a thud distracted my ears. I cast my eyes toward the sound. It was a ripe mango fruit that fell from a mango tree. Looking up at the tree, I saw squirrels leaping on the branches. Also, I saw birds flying, some…

I had a story and wanted to share my story in a book to help others. This year will mark the 10 year anniversary of my first book, Imprisoned:The Travails of a Trafficked Victim. I am most grateful that this book has been used by various professionals within and outside the education sector. Various authors have used excerpts from the book and some professors have used it as recommended texts. Special thanks to Prof. Joseph Mbele of @africonexion who showed me how to become an independent published author. What story do you have, you can publish it in a book to help a lot of people - some you many come across, but many others, you will never meet in person - the joy is that your story is helping people around the world 🌎 Perhaps, you are afraid 😦 of what people will say. I want you to know that, people will always say something - good or bad. Don’t allow what people will say to stop you from doing something that could save another life. In case you don’t know, writing a book can be therapeutic and it can also be an opportunity that will open you into a new world of learning. With this book, I have been able to go to the university and written two curriculums as independent study 📖 The Sky is your limit to what you can do when you have a published book. It’s like opening your mind afresh. If you want to write a book and don’t know how or where to start or you do but it feel daunting and overwhelming, feel free to contact me today at
[email protected] or just send me a direct message. ***Want your own copy of Imprisoned: The Travails of a Trafficked Victim, get it on Amazon or lulu.com today or go to www.bukolaoriola.com for an autographed copy. #personalstory #book #memoir #university #bukolaoriola #imprisonedbooks #amazonbooks #lulubooks https://www.instagram.com/p/BuCev-4nch5/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=4l683lhuihqt

my Q and A with Kenton Bartlett of why she left
Write a little bit about you like what genre of books you write and what you're up to.
I've never been good at introductions, but I wrote this book to connect with other people. My suspicion is that a lot of our experiences and emotions overlap, and whatever project I'm working on is an attempt at trying to find that midpoint. Outside of writing projects, I also work as a mental health counselor at an eating disorder clinic, which is a different way of pursuing the same goal.
Congrats on the book now to the questions
(Questions)
(LAURA8759)
What made you want to write a book about love?
(Kenton)
I've always been a sucker for romance and it seemed like something I'd be able to explore for several years without losing interest. I had also gone through a bad breakup and was trying to cope.
(LAURA8759)
Any books you're working on at the moment?
(Kenton)
I'm working on one about taking a pill that provides a sense of purpose, another about a personal experience with having an eating disorder, and a third possible project called 'Children's Stories for Confused Adults.'
(LAURA8759)
Do you have a favorite part of the story?
(Kenton)
There are a lot of painful sections, but what stands out the most is all the heartwarming moments, and stretches of life shared with people who I still have a tremendous amount of affection for. It's nice to remember the good times.
(LAURA8759)
What are your other hobbies when not writing a book?
(Kenton)
I'm obsessed with music and movies, and can't wait for the world to open up again for concerts. I'm also into parks, waterfalls, and catching up with friends.
(LAURA8759)
What genre of books do you like to read?
(Kenton)
I really like things that express complicated emotions and interior thoughts, and books that feel like they're talking directly to the reader.
(LAURA8759)
Does anything inspire you when writing a book?
(Kenton)
So many artists feel like personal friends, and they've improved the quality of my life in too many ways to count. When I'm looking for a pick-me-up, I geek out on interviews of musicians, filmmakers, and authors to remember how exciting it is to create things that resonate with others.
(LAURA8759)
Are you the type to outline your book before you write it?
(Kenton)
I try to outline, then end up drifting away as things unfold.
(LAURA8759)
Do you write your story on paper first before you type it out ?
(Kenton)
I jot notes down all the time when I'm out in the world, but I rely a little too much on the computer to type things out. My fingers move much faster on a keyboard, so it's a lot more efficient to convert thoughts to words that way.
(LAURA8759)
Who is your favorite author?
(Kenton)
I really love Iain S. Thomas for poems and emotional things, and I love Alain de Botton for practical insights on how to navigate life.
(LAURA8759)
What inspired you to become a writer?
(Kenton)
I consider writing more of an emotional necessity than anything else, and I tend to have a compulsive need to undertake obsessive projects. Writing seems to satisfy both needs, so I keep doing it, but I'm not sure if that makes me a writer.
(LAURA8759)
What was your favorite bòok or series as a child?
(Kenton)
I used to love Dinotopia and Anamorphs!
(LAURA8759)
Do you have a favorite book?
(Kenton)
It changes, but three books that I've read more than once are The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Course of Love, and How to be Happy: Not a Self-Help Book. Seriously.
(LAURA8759)
Would you ever do a sequel to one of your books?
(Kenton)
The first book I did, The World Needs You: A Pep Talk, ended up being a three-part series, but they were mostly random thoughts and not a continuation of any plot. I would love to have the focus to sustain a single story from one book to the next, but my mind drifts, and I find new things to explore.
(LAURA8759)
How did you come up with the idea for your book?
(Kenton)
I was trying to recover from a break up, and I was also trying to create a linear story, with a beginning, middle, and end. I started writing something loosely romantic that pulled from my own experience as a child. Without setting out to do so, it evolved into something a lot more personal than I was aiming for.
(LAURA8759)
Are there any changes you would make to your book or story?
(Kenton)
I wish I could have found a way to make it shorter, or for the plot to be more dynamic, but I end up being more interested in emotion, observation, and honesty, so plot is never a strong suit. After shaving off over a hundred pages, I couldn't find a way to make it any shorter without losing some of what I wanted it to be.
(Final question)
(LAURA8759)
Current book your reading?
(Kenton)
Antkind by Charlie Kaufman. I love his mind!
Any social media pages our very few readers can find you at and were they can buy your books
Feel free to friend me on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/kentonbartlett) and check out these books on Lulu (http://bit.ly/LuluBooks) or Amazon (http://bit.ly/WhySheLeftAmazon)! Several friends and I also made a movie a while back, and if anyone is interested, it's available at http://www.FindYourMissingPieces.com.
