I sprint deeper into the thick mushy woods. My knees begging to give out. My mind was racing, my face sweaty and my dark eyes blurry from overloaded emotions. My stygian black hair wild rushing around in the wind- I need to go faster, get faster and think faster..maybe if I cross the borders he won't get to me. Hopefully. 

Stumbling into the nearest tall trees and my eyes squinted to see in the darkness. The full moon was high up today surrounded by sparkly tiny bodies.  Even the luminous moonlight couldn't light the pathway for me. Huh, even nature is against me leaving him, I guess. Too bad. Too bad he’s too much. My entire life was on a line near him. Why? why couldn't he just leave me alone? 

“Riley, Riley, come out baby..” his smoky low voice echoed off the dark. Fuck. 

My nails dug into my palm, my eyes getting blurry and my mind yelling at me to keep quiet. It's okay, calm down Riley. Crouching down lower into the lush bushes, I covered my sweaty face with my shaking fingers. My heart skips a beat when the sound of his boot crunching down the leaves gets louder. He’s getting closer. 

“Come out, come out baby girl... daddy’s here.” his sing-song followed, catching on a deep chuckle a second later. My mind becomes blurry when the scent of a rich masculine aroma reacts to my nose. Toxic and billowing. Tobacco. My iris sparkles when a bright red light flashes through the dark. Lighter. 

The fucker’s smoking in the middle of nowhere. 

The sound of snapping the cigar lighter off and on comes ringing out of nowhere, taunting me. Daring me to come out. 

“God, I can fucking smell you..” his throaty laugh echoed off the forest. His footsteps grew louder and louder. Closer to the bush behind I'm hiding myself. My heart beat pulsing louder than my breaths. A trickle of sweat ran down my temple. God, I’m so done for. For a moment, it is spine-chilling how silent it is. Only the sound of leaves moving in the wind. 

Silence. Silence. Silence. 

A scream leaves my mouth when a strong veiny hand wraps around my waist and harshly tugs me closer to a strong masculine body. It’s so dark, I can't see him however, I can feel him clear as day. Each line of his carved abs through the thick hoodie. How rugged and ripped he is. Pure testosterone. His calm breathing sends chills down my spine. His tatted neck comes neck-to-neck with my face. Oh god, his Armani cologne mixed with that woody tobacco aroma. It's suffocating my senses. 

“Hey, sweetie..” his taunting goes off. 

The sound of the cigar lighter clicking is heard before the burning flame is brought up to my face. A breath leaves my chest when my dark irises catch the scent of his blue ones. They're not baby blue. Oh no. It's like one of those eerie oceans that hurdle in a hurricane - they’re never calm and god knows, what monsters they hide underneath. A dark set of blue eyes, so tantalising...

My breathing shakes further when he pulls me closer, exactly right on that spot rubbing against his. Bringing his face closer to mine, I can see his details clearer. I've fallen for that clean-shaven and chiselled jawline, aristocratic nose, full smirking luscious lips and thick dark eyebrows. The long dark stands of his hair fell over his cruelly dashing face. 

“Kairos...” 

“No kai baby?” he mocks. Snapping out of the lustrous gaze, I struggle out of his grip. Or try to. Punching him right around his face, A groan escaped his mouth. His hold weakens as I sprint out of his hold and flee into the lush greens. My heartbeat rushed, and my mind was burning. Oh god. Oh fuck. I just punched Kairos Moriano across the face. My heart drops in my stomach when I hear his dark laughter through the woods and the sound of stomping feet behind my trail. He’s crazy. Truly. If I wasn't fast before, I sure as hell am now. The surrounding looks like a blur when I’m bolting through them. Don't look back, don't look back. However, I know I’m dead meat when I’m pushed into the rough ground. A loud groan escapes me as my body hits the scrappy leaves and grass. 

Not wanting to give up yet, I crawl across the wet leaves and try to reach forwards ignoring the burning heat against the ground as my body rubs through it. I almost yell in frustration when a hand grabs my right foot dragging me towards him. 

“No! fuck off!” I scream into him. 

He pulls me closer to him and flips me under him, facing his bleeding lip. A mocking grin was drawn across them. With me laying under him, my body rubbing against the rough ground of the woods. 

“No?” he taunts further, bringing his bleeding face closer to mine. Oh god, if only it makes him more gorgeous. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. His cut lip attached to mine into a bruising grip, his tongue sliding like a snake inside me and teasing mine. His blood slipped inside my mouth, my blurry when the strong metallic taste hits my tongue. The kiss is suffocating and toxic.

“Kai stop-”  my pleas smothered by his brutal kiss. I’m struggling and hitting against his hold, which only makes him tighten his grip to a painful one. His strong veiny fingers wrap around my neck like a vice, holding me in place as he forces his poison into me. 

I inhale a handful of oxygen once I get my freedom back, my chest rising and falling from the breathlessness. Bringing his face even closer to the crook of my neck, his tongue dips out sliding across my skin. His lower body forces into mine, oh fuck, it’s a steel pipe. I squirm and move further feeling him right on my spot. “Kairos,” I whisper shakily. Ignoring me, he continues his torture on my neck, biting down and tugging harder. The constant cycle of sucking and biting drives me crazy. He kisses, sucks and then bites hard. My mind whirls into an endless frenzy of him. 

“Stop squirming so much or it’ll be much worse when I snap.” the threat goes straight down my body. Suddenly a snap brave switch inside me, and I squirm harder against him. I watch as his body stills. 

“You asked for this, kitten...” his voice growls lowly. 

I don't even realise that he undid his belt and pants when he rips my shorts and knickers off, a scream escapes me when he thrusts it inside me. His size stretches inside me, welcoming him. Betraying me. My brain shut off as my mind swirls around him into an endless cycle of pleasure and lust. He thrusts deeper and deeper into me, and a string of moans escapes me. He increases his pace with strong thrusts, to an unimaginable level. This guy wants to kill me. “Kairos!” I yell into the woods, unable to hold it back. I bite down on his broad shoulders to smother the moans. My body shakes from the shiver running through me. It's too much. I can't. I can feel him so deep in me. A pleasure shrill runs down my spine when his tongue runs across my ear and tugs on it. 

“Who’s pussy is this?” he darkly whispers.

“Y-yours.” my voice shakes in the middle of his merciless thrusts. 

“Say the name,” he demanded. 

“K-kairos...” I struggle with the words.

“Louder, baby girl. Let me hear your sweet voice.” he tugs on my ear, biting down. A string of soft cries left my lips. Fuck, the feeling of pain mixing with pleasure. 

“Kairos!” I cry again into the dark forest. His pace increases again as his thrusts push deeper and deeper inside me. A belt of pressure builds inside me as my eyes droop low and my body slops. The feel of him was so roughened tantalising and deep inside me. Him, him and only him. With a loud moan, I come hard as my world tilts on its axis. Only the feel of him shaking mine. A gasp leaves me when a string of his hot load shoots inside me, leaving me fuzzy and warm. 

“You’re mine. You’re never leaving me. Forever. What Kairos Moriano wants, he gets.” he darkly finishes off, sealing my fate.

𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒏 𝒆-𝒂𝒓𝒄 𝒄𝒐𝒑𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏 𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘.

One thing I always like to see in a book is a strong, capable, and career-driven heroine in a men-dominated field and slamming ungrateful and stereotypical family and this book served that.

I like the career theme going on here, as well as seeing how hardworking Samantha is despite her unsupportive and inconsiderate family, which never ceases to irritate me.

The romance was probably the only thing I didn't like about this story. Isn't this supposed to be an enemy of lovers? But, in my opinion, this is more of a hate-to-love trope than the one being sold here.

The romance felt a little forced to me, as it appears to be underdeveloped. Although I did enjoy their time together, I wouldn't say it was particularly romantic.

Another point to consider is the writing of the steamy scenes; this book contains a few graphic and detailed steamy scenes. I just think the overall writing, particularly in these sections, could have been better. They were often uncomfortable for me.

Overall, I think it's a good STEM career, contemporary romance that I'd read again.
