When I started listening to The Magnus Archives, it didn't take long for me to find some Tumblr art of the Jon and Martin ship. As I have little experience with shipping (I am new to Tumblr), my expectations were that it was more akin to something like Zutara from ATLA, a pairing with excellent chemistry that ultimately wasn't going to happen canonically.

Amazingly, Jon x Martin is a ship that DOES sail and is completely canon! I'm still getting used to the notion of...

Y'know I just realized that my usual expectation of "this character ship is probably a non canon one the fan base latched onto" is actually fucking stupid considering all the shows I've watched in the past. As it turns out, almost all of the character ships I've encountered are canon ones? Going through my hazy memories of TV shows I've seen:

Dungeon Meshi- Labru and Farcille, Leverage - Ford and Sophie, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood - Ed and Winry, SheRa and the Princesses of Power - Catra and Adora (I think? I remember a kiss but not much else, it's been a few years lol), Castlevania - Trevor and Sypha, and obviously Good Omens with the Ineffable Husbands Aziraphale and Crowley!

So yeah my gut instinct to think "Nah that strange character ship probably isn't really a valid thing in canon, just weird people being ship crazy haha" is a load of shit that I need to fix. I'm on Tumblr now, might as well be able to engage with character ships properly!

If anyone thinks that LoI, CoD/PtR manga and SotN Succubus are the worst, Magnus from the radio drama Nocturne of Recollection is far the worst sex-demon character in Castlevania that I ever crossed because:

-He tried to make Alucard the new lord of Dracula's castle

-Used Lyudmil against Alucard

-Also tried to convice Maria that Alucard is evil and torture the dhampir at the same time

I do not mind!!! And I am sorry it took me like a week to answer this ask, I've been genuinely thinking about it, and then I had a whole freak out bcs why is my whole list mostly men??????? And then I suddenly forgot all media I've ever consumed, but here's what I came up with:

1. Victor Vale (Villains series by V. E. Schwab)

2. Magnus Bane (Shadowhunters by Cassandra Clare)

3. Ronan Lynch (The Raven Cycle and The Dream Trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater)

4. Alucard from Castlevania (the Netflix series)

5. Childe from Genshin Impact

6. Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul

7. Din Djarin aka the Mandalorian from The Mandalorian (I also love Leia, but I love Carrie Fisher more)

Now why do I love them? Well, the first 3 characters on the list introduced my 14 year old self to queerness and were a big part in my understanding of who I am. Tokyo Ghoul was one of the first animes I was really into and it introduced me to manga and anime, so it's not necessarily that I only love that character, I love the whole manga a lot. Rhaenyra and Jude are just cool badass female characters, I love women who murder and aren't afraid to do everything in their power to achieve their goals.

A few honorable mentions of characters from media I'm currently obsessed with, or was obsessed with in the recent past:

Listened to more of season 4 of The Magnus Archives, and okay, the People's Church of the Divine Host's plan is stupid for the same reason that the Vampire Messiah's plan in Castlevania: Nocturne is stupid.

If you cause eternal darkness, everything dies. And that means there's nothing left to fear the darkness and no humans for vampires to feed on.

Bleh. Maybe as I listen to more of The Magnus Archives and watch more of Castlevania: Nocturne, these plans will make more sense, but for now, my reaction to both is that they are Grade F villainy.
