miku.earth update: September 15

Hi all! This is a lil progress update for those interested. In a rush? Here's the cliff notes!

The map site at miku.earth is back: sorry for the delay in fixing it! Check it out: it has six hundred Mikus!

Including the hyuge ol' queue, we've collected over 3,100 mikus!

Representation is important! I've been using some fancy stats to avoid bias. To that end, please help make sure we have a Miku in every African country!

I ran into a kinda complex issue and it was a whole Thing. I was working on the site the whole time though! Sorry for the delay, and I hope you enjoy now it's back up and running.

This site has six hundred Mikus on the map, and more are added each week. It was recently rebuilt from scratch (fun fact! I am not a web developer) so I hope it is far zippier and less glitchy as before. A mobile-friendly version is coming soon too!

Also: check out the new search feature! In addition to the title, artist name and region(s), it can also search for the categories indigenous and historic!

Even at its Miku-per-hour speed, the queue will continue until 2025 at least! This is with thanks to an incredible number of contributions, including donations of literal thousands of links.

Oh and by the way: over two thirds of the collection are tumblr posts! Given that this was originally a twitter trend… if you know any Twitter users who are into this trend, please reach out. Some napkin math tells me there are at least 10,000 works of art total out there, which is, by the way, surreal. Let's make sure not a single one is lost.

If you're super curious, the collection is public! I have some tools to auto-annotate (I do not want RSI), but be aware the backlog isn't vetted.

Representation is important!

Fun as this trend is, this project was always intended as a serious study into how people represent their own culture through artwork. I'm no anthropologist, but I feel it is important to make sure this collection is respectful and bias-free. If we're to represent the world, we have to avoid underrepresentation!

To that end I've used some fancy statistics to calculate a "representation value" for each country. Here's a table if you're into the stats of it! This info is handy to help me with the queue – especially with tweets as they're a lil more effort than a carefully-tagged reblog. Of course, Indigenous, hyperspecific and low-note Mikus get priority.

And, well, of course you can see on the site there are purple regions for countries still missing a Miku. In particular, please help me make sure every country in Africa is represented.

Smaaaalll life update-

Im moving on Monday :33 it won't affect the comic schedule at all though. Moon 10 is still going up tomorrow like usual. It’s one of my favorites, so I hope youre all excited.

That being said, I've decided that im going to put the comic on hiatus for the month of July to focus my attention 100% on art fight!! You can still send asks (I'm already looking forward to answering them in august!) and I'll respond to comments and stuff like normal. But I will be drawing nothing but attacks and want to give it my whole focus without burning through my backlog.

I will be putting the year 1 gardeners on art fight though, and I'll be reblogging all of the attacks they get on here, so you should still be seeing them !! I also might play around and drop a little spoiler dialogue or screenshot from time to time. And I'll probably post attacks i do for other clangen creators on here. All other attacks will be posted on my main - @jjnostredame

I'll be back in August! If I've done my math right, we'll be starting moon 13 when I come back.... the second year already!!! I have lots of good stuff in store for you. Thank you as always for reading !!!

Cascade (part 3)

So, fun fact: Without Kei being in in 1-C, she and Shinso are not friends yet in this continuity. It's the small tragedies.

Also, Manual's about to have a very chaotic internship experience.

“Dropping out of the Sports Festival narrowed your options significantly,” Aizawa said. Bundled up in that obnoxious yellow sleeping bag, the clear determination to be cozy and damn the consequences was almost impressive. It just clashed with his stone-cold voice and clear disappointment in Kei’s entire existence. 

“That was the point.” Kei scoffed as she flung herself into the opposite chair. And despite her gripes, Kei could admit that Principal Nezu chose decent furniture. “I could fake a week-long illness.” 

Despite Kei bowing out of the Sports Festival after the cavalry battle, allowing some 1-B student she didn’t know to take her slot, some pro somewhere had seen her “potential.” Mostly the ones who could do basic math and realize her water-controlling power worked basically on the same scale as Todoroki’s Half-Hot, Half-Cold. She had a handful of offers from people like Selkie, which would take her well out of Musutafu and could drill her in proper heroic conduct. 

And to be blunt, Kei wished they didn’t give a shit. Their letters were burning a hole in her desk back home. 

There was a sort of pity system where students who didn’t get any offers were still assigned to pros for the internship experience, but Kei wasn’t a normal student. While Midoriya, who looked like he was going to cry when he saw a whopping zero offers, got something through his connection with All Might, Kei wasn’t holding her breath for anything useful to her cause. Any pro worth their salt needed to keep tabs on their interns. If a teenage hero-wannabe escaped containment and threw a truck across a street without authorization or something, there would be hell to pay. A lot of the hero course students had such destructive Quirks that property damage was on the lower end of potential bad outcomes. 

Honestly, someone like Nezu taking her on as an intern would be the best possible scenario. He’d work out that they were all better off if he let her off the leash for this week. Sort of like a big guardian sheepdog, only her territory comprised at least one city. She could clear her backlog of patrol duties with her teammates instead of learning hero industry paperwork procedures.

Kei’s gaze drifted to Aizawa, who was pointedly still here despite Kei already learning he’d planned on taking the week to work with a kid outside of 1-A. Apparently, he’d met with Shinsō after the Sports Festival and decided the kid was now his protégé. It was much faster to just snap up the General Education’s sole standout than bother with writing letters through an agency. For Kei’s part, she looked at the Quirks written out for Shinsō and that Monoma boy in 1-B and added them to her personal “nope” list. 

Being found out would ruin everything. 

Being found out by children just added embarrassment to the mix in untold quantities. No, she’d rather not deal with that. Adults were more married to their preconceptions and kept letting her get away with things. It was safer to stick to that part of the plan. 

Kei took a long sip of her tea and tried not to think too hard about it. The mere fact of her presence in this office vetoed such a simple solution. 

“Well, we don’t need to go quite so far to ensure your work continues,” Nezu said, placing his paws together on the top of his desk. 

Honestly, if not for the fact that he insisted on wearing suits, he could have been any rodent summon clan’s adjutant. Probably the brains of any operation he wanted, even if the clans’ schemes probably struck him as thinking too small. Certainly he’d have the toad clan wrapped around his toe beans inside of the day. 

Kei blinked away the stray thought. 

“It would raise suspicion if you weren’t involved in the internship experience this week, Gekkō-san,” Nezu went on, pausing to take a ship of his own tea. His fur fluffed in enjoyment. “But, in the interest of furthering your goals and ours, there is a task that might suit your skills while also fitting that requirement. I hope you’re interested.” 

“Well, I’ll listen,” Kei said. 

“Good enough! Now, you’ve heard about the Hero Killer operating in multiple Japanese cities by now, yes?” When Kei nodded, Nezu continued, “While your friends’ efforts were quite informative in narrowing down the man’s Quirk and general methodology, Endeavor’s agency has made their operations in the area rather tenuous. They cannot safely patrol the city.” 

Which was a nice way of saying that while Obito and Kakashi could get into pitched fights with people like Burnin or even Endeavor himself, it was a waste of time and effort on everyone’s parts. Apparently, the general ANBU aesthetic trended closely enough to Stain’s known appearance that it nearly got her teammates set on fire three separate times. No one was hurt, but not for lack of trying. There was always a lot of griping afterward. 

Kei nodded along. “So, you want me to…?” 

“The hero Manual has already put in an offer for your internship experience,” Nezu said, “which isn’t even something I had to ask of him! It appears that aside from Iida-kun, no other hero students have accepted his overtures. Try to keep everyone from unfortunate accidents, Gekkō-san. I know I can trust you to act with prudence and diligence.” 

That was a nice way of saying that Kei wasn’t allowed to go for the double-tap on Stain. Or let anybody die. Even if it looked like Endeavor’s bullshit attitude might be curtailed at long last if she just stood back and watched him get a little bit stabbed. 

“Manual is a respected mentor for beginner heroes,” Kei murmured, mostly to herself. Setting her teacup down on the desk, drained, she said, “Are you hoping this might be a character-building experience for me, Nezu-dono?” 

Those beady black eyes gleamed. “Perhaps.” 

“I want it noted that I don’t agree with this plan,” Aizawa said in his usual monotone. His eyes were open for the first time in a while, about as red and itchy-looking as usual. “Using Gekkō as villain bait doesn’t stop being unethical simply because she’s being raised for the role.”

“I’m not going to just sit here and do nothing.” 

There was a slight pause. “I know. It doesn’t make it less of a tragedy.” 

Kei sighed. “Then can we just acknowledge it and move on? I’d rather be useful.” 

Aizawa’s expression was difficult to read—sort of like Kei’s in the mirror—but he didn’t offer more negativity just yet. 

The main reason he wasn’t protesting more vociferously probably came down to Kei’s demonstrated ability to go directly up to a Nōmu billed as “the perfect anti-All Might weapon” and make its head implode with water pressure and no small amount of spite. Sort of like a deep-sea diver if their pressure suit failed. If Shigaraki didn’t want his minion dying so pathetically, he shouldn’t have said what its Quirks were. Shock absorption combined with super regeneration were great in theory, but they both had limits. And it didn’t take a genius to look at that exposed brain case and draw some conclusions. 

The whole thing was messy. 

Suffice to say, Kei found the occasional wary looks from her classmates wholly justified and tried not to let it bother her nowadays. 

“If I accept, do you plan to have Manual read in on everything?” Kei asked. Typically, mission parameters were set by the Hokage in advance, but Nezu did have a lot of leeway outside of contract specifications because the rat’s funds were functionally limitless. 

“No, that is not a requirement to secure the next steps,” Nezu said. He sort of looked like he smiled, but the teeth were wrong. For a rodent. “Just try to keep your explosive intervention style to a minimum and there won’t be anything too serious to explain.”

So, that’s a jinx.

I assumed so. 

Kei sighed. “Mission accepted, Nezu-dono. I’ll try not to step on any toes.”

Just did some rough math. There are 1009 submissions yet to be posted. Assuming that you’re still posting at a rate of 5 a day, that’s 202 days of posts (counting today). If you let the backlog completely run down before reopening submissions, the floodgates wouldn’t open again until May 3, 2025.

But please check my numbers, I could be wildly off.

Your math checks out! BUT I'm upping the number of posts per day to 6, so that way alters the math. More like 170 days of posts, meaning the very last one currently on the list would be posted around March 30, 2025! Still a long way away lol

If my math is correct, it should take me about a month to queue up all the currently unposted fics? So that's probably when submissions will open again!

☆ 📌 Complete pw modules till December

☆ work on weak chapters🗯 - relation and functions , trigonometry , periodic classification and topic electronic configuration of chapter - 2 of chemistry 💨

☆ listen to podcasts like 'ACADEMIC VALIDATION'🗒and 'YOUR A+ LIFE'📈 while studying mathematics. (As I kinda not get maths yk )

☆ study along with study vloggers - 'STUDY WITH ME' 🩰 because it helps when you find a 'partner' in studying.

☆ Have a mindset that you are not a student but you are a employee working for a greater position in your job or for greater income....🏷 which means position- topper or sum and income - grades ⏳️

☆ while studying physics you should use whiteboard 📇cuz I know it gets boring at times so yea

☆ for chemistry I would say that read books and make pretty pretty notes 🪄 and if you still can't study it then just watch some study vlogs and restart 🎲 (it helps me sometimes)

☆ study computer science chapter of - 'PYTHON' 🖥 whenever you get time as of getting mind off STEM subjects

☆ I know it's not easy getting off bed but just use 1-2-5 minute rule 🎗

-stand up for 1 minute and drink some water

- start off with some stretching next for 2 minutes

- do 4 plank sessions in 5 minutes or any other favourite exercise move of yours

(This is my concept btw) And this will help about 70 percent to actually get you up.🥊

☆ do pilates in case you don't feel like exercising⛳️

☆ do 'lazy' stretching either before sleeping ot after sleeping.🎯

☆ walk minimum 6k steps a day♠️

☆ subscribe/follow to multiple dance pages so you automatically get the urge to dance🪀

☆ watch your idol dancing...it helps🧩

☆ start writing your incomplete book by visualizing the scenes of the book...may help sometimes🖇

☆ during breaks from studies play basketball even for 5 minutes... put your phone away and walk around with your basketball around you then you will automatically feel the urge.🏀

☆ take part in school activities as much as you can....I get it that there is lot of academic work but it shouldn't stop you from being an all rounder🏆🏅

☆ cut people off...yea exactly CUT THEM OFF !! Lot of people don't really deserve you. You know who those people are.🌬

Also I have complicated relationships with Hello from the Hallowoods, Welcome to Night Vale, and The Mistholme Museum because I've listened to so many episodes already but half-forgotten them so now anytime I think about them and want to go listen I don't because I don't know if I want to re-listen or not, even though I just should anyway.

Hey, just wanted to check in and make sure everything is okay. I noticed that we didn’t get a chapter this weekend and you never said that they’re be a delay or anything. Obviously it’s fine, I understand life gets in the way at time. I just wanted to make sure.

Hi! Thanks for checking in. I'm currently on an every other week schedule. I updated on the 5th, so the next update will be the 19th!

I'd really like to go back to weekly updates, when weighing my options, I did the math and realized that every other week takes me to the end of July while every week takes me to the end of May.

Last time I took a vacation, when I came home I had major writers block and burnout. You'd think a vacation would help with burnout but apparently not. Summer and fall is when I get a little busier helping out a friend with something personal, so I weighed my options and considered that at a worst case, when I get home I spend a month or two struggling to write, and then struggle for time in the summer. When fall comes is when I really need the backlog, so I decided to go back to every other week in order to not burn through my backlog faster than I can replenish it.

Sorry for the ramble, but I thought everyone would be curious about the thought process.

I'm not sure if anything would be enough for me to go back to weekly, as beyond that one burst of energy (Which turned out to be mania) I can't write a chapter in a week and I'd like to keep the backlog topped off.

Catching Up: Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo (Ep 1)

My time was very limited this past Oct/Nov so choices were made. I didn't watch nearly as many shows as typical during that period. However, I'm diving into my backlog.

Let Free the Curse is a show that I purposely filtered tags for during its run time. I know very little about it beyond the MDL description.

Since it's not currently airing, I'll probably just make one post for each watch session. I have no idea whether they'll be short or long. That depends on how into it I get. I had originally planned on watching 2-3 episodes a session, but I got distracted by a detail in a different show. I still need to work on my own video script tonight so only the first episode for now.

Did the dad just dump a dirty dish while the boy is cleaning the dishes? If I hadn't already decided this dad was a POS from all of the beating warnings, then this scene right here ALONE would've been enough evidence for me to hate him. It's SO disrespectful.

New boy is a sunshine. That's both good and bad. Our boy Do-hoe is in obvious need of sunshine in his life. But sunshine hurts your eyes when you've been in the dark too long, and I can already tell that Do-hoe has been in the dark a very long time.

The math scene is cracking me up. It shouldn't probably, but we're weirdos at my house. We do bedtime math problems and math puzzles for fun. I have heard conversations like this between my sons more times than I can count. It's always fun when they're not sure what the answer is to the problem they created themselves. Lol.

Sunshine was seriously having to think, and then Dohoe had it wrong! He's kicking himself hard (internally). If there's one thing that top students take pride in, it's being correct in these types of things.

I'm a fairly adventurous eater, but....I don't know that I want garlic in my ice cream.

There's food symbolism. Be still my beating heart.

My only question is how did Do-hoe KNOW he wanted bread? 🤔 (Side note - that painting in the background is gorgeous. I wish I knew what the writing said.)

Nevermind. Do-hoe can hear EVERYTHING this man is saying. Either the walls are thin or sunshine is loud. My guess is both.

(Side note - the background sound in this scene is driving me nuts. I hope we don't have this type of percussion often. For now, I'll just turn down my headphones.)

I love that Sunshine is asking this question. It's a good sign.

Oof. That's not a good sign. It's resignation. I'm trying not to read too much into this situation, but alarm bells are going off.

Crap. The alarm bells were warranted. I mean, we already knew this man was going to be violent. But to do it directly IN FRONT of sunshine without any hesitation? That's not a good sign at all.

Ok. I'm loving sunshine trying to figure out how to make it better. Yes, I will be calling him that until evidence suggests I shouldn't. Sunshine characters make me happy. There are so precious few of them in real life, but they make the world a better place for us all.

And yay! The weird ice cream is back. (The percussion is still driving me nuts. Thanks to my hearing impairment certain sounds catch my attention A LOT. This is one of them.)

I knew there was a reason he was here. I hadn't expected expulsion. My brain is now whirling with possibilities. I've narrowed it to two.

Do-hoe is shut down, but poor puppy looks like he's been kicked. 😢

Because when it's trauma that causes this stance, then people tend to draw a VERY hard line around it. I'm hooked. It's not even about the rain. This set-up is perfection. I'm now VERY excited to see where this goes. It's going to be a rough ride. I can already tell that. It reminds me of a passage I read once. It asked something along the lines of "don't you want your favorite characters to be happy?" The answer was something along the lines of "No. I don't. I want ME to be happy. If the character must go through pain for that to happen, so be it." This is GOING to be painful. I can already tell. But I'm not above letting characters go through agony so that I can be entertained.

My f/o is 192 cm and I'm only like between 150 and 155 cm lol he is a giant compared to me.

I ended up making my s/i 165 cm just a little bit of height to not be so small to reach his cheek for a kiss lol.

Still small compared to him but it makes cuddling so nice.
