monsterf*cker (or, the reverse werewolf au wherein changelings magically revert to their human form during the full moon)
———
It takes a lot to surprise Barbara these days, but coming home one random Tuesday evening a few weeks after the Eternal Night to find Walter lounging on the sofa in what used to be his human form is certainly enough to warrant a raised eyebrow.
“Glamour mask?”
The changeling shakes his head and pushes up onto his feet. “I honestly don’t know what happened. One minute I was in my true skin and the next, well…” He gestures to his very fleshy, very not-stone-anymore self. “It happened to Nomura and NotE, too.”
“Hmm,” Barbara hums, features twisting in concern as she crosses into the living room for a better look. “It’s not permanent, is it?”
“Why?” The corner of Walter’s lips curl into a knowing, amused smirk. “Would you be upset if it were?”
Barbara rolls her eyes as she comes to a stop in front of him, palms rising to Walter’s cheeks so the pads of her thumbs can caress the wrinkles around his bright green eyes. “No. But you know I find your troll form immensely attractive.”
“You do know there’s a term for people like you, don’t you?”
The expression that particular comment conjures earns a laugh, as does the grumbled “oh, shut up” that accompanies it. Which isn’t a denial, at all.

You couldn’t blame the shock on anyone’s face whenever you and Yunho went out together in a friendly manner, even though it pains you to say it out loud. But it doesn’t mean it wasn’t annoying to notice it for the 150th time, someone whispering about the two of you behind your back in a restaurant nearby your office.
You took another deep breath as you played with the chains of your bag on your lap, a simple way to relieve stress that Yunho wouldn’t notice and wouldn’t ask about it.
“Hey, what’s wrong?”, you noticed his beautiful smile turn into a slight frown. “You’re pouting”.
There’s no way in hell that you are pouting, so you could only look at Yunho with the utmost outraged expression you could muster, but these days, it wasn’t much. That stupid motherfucker knows he makes you smile with a snap of his fingers.
“I’m not”.
“Oh really? So you are not looking like a pouty puppy right now for a reason you don’t want to tell me”.
“I’ll let slide the fact that you just called me puppy, what do you want to order?”, you held up the menu as you tried your hardest to keep yourself together.
He always knows somehow, but never pushes you more than you want to tell him. In his mind, someday you would open up to it, but that’s where he is wrong. You rather die than let your secret off your heart.
“You’re doing that again”, Yunho whined as he pushed the menu in your hands down.
You were surprised just as much as he was. That wasn’t thought through at all. Now, he was the one pouting, and you didn’t want anything else besides kissing it away, but you couldn’t, could you? You were paralyzed by the scene in front of you.
Yunho was mesmerizing without knowing. The way his blonde hair moved ever so slightly by the slow wind coming from the nearby windows, how his eyes would become little lines when he laughed and his ears would turn red as he lowered his head anytime you complement him.
He was so beautiful, and you were so frustrated that he would never think the same of you.
“Excuse me”, that same sweet voice that whispered how cute Yunho was behind you, sounded confident now. She stood beside your table, a nice smile on her face as she focused solely on him.
Fuck me, why does she have to be soo his type too?
Her good girl style matched perfectly with his husband material style. The epitome of the perfect girl for Yunho, which you always knew it wasn’t you. Sometimes you wondered if you just changed a little… then you remembered who you are and how you’d never do that, not even for him.
You wanted to throw yourself off the window as Yunho gave her a perfect polite smile, which was what a nice reasonable person would do, but you stopped caring about reasonable for a long time.
“I was just wondering… are you two on a date right now?”, she barely looked at you while saying that. “I don’t want to bother, if you are”.
“Yes, we are, so you can go back to whisper behind our back”.
It was a tough competition between who was more surprised, Yunho or the girl, yet you remained as calm and collected as you were, staring straight at her. Her smile fell so fast, her demeanor changing as quick as her confidence left her body.
It was a pleasing sight to watch, you couldn’t lie to yourself. Maybe if she wasn’t as dismissive of you, you could feel empathy and regret, but that was far from the case.
Yunho held in the waves of emotions going through him as the girl focused back on him, to confirm what you just said, in hopes maybe he would like her more somehow.
“I think your friends are calling for you”, Yunho said as he looked from the girl to the others behind your table.
She didn’t need another sign to excuse herself.
Yunho never stared at you with this much intensity, he wasn’t smiling. Your own confidence and poker face begin to slip up as you waited for him to say something, anything, even laugh at the scene that just unfolded.
Even if everything goes down hill with Yunho now, she also doesn’t get to be with him.
It’s a selfish thought, but it’s one that brings a tiny bit of comfort to your heart as you heard them all leave the restaurant.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
His question made you want to scream. There was so much you never said, so much you didn’t want to say still, what does he know now? That you’re jealous of him? That you like him? That maybe you’ve been into him for some time? Then he doesn’t know anything at all.
“Why didn’t you tell me that people whispering about us bothered you?”
He wasn’t asking the right question and he knew it. But now you know that he heard it too, that he notices every time it happened too, and still never said anything about it.
Your eyes fell to the menu in your hands. You could barely think, but he was waiting for a real answer.
“It doesn’t”, you heard the scoff leaving his mouth. “It didn’t-”, you correct yourself. “It didn’t, but these people need a lesson to mind their own business, don’t you think?”, you looked up at him again, the walls around you raising again.
“I do”, he leaned on the chair, a smirk growing on his face. “So, we’re dating now?”
“Fine, tease me about this as much as you want”, you smiled to yourself, not a happy one, no, but a content enough smile. “It must be fun for you to have that much attention”, you didn’t want to sound bitter, but you were.
“But I only want your attention”. He didn’t even hesitate to say that. His eyes looking for yours, but you still refused to look him in the eyes. “Hey-”, his hand grabbed yours and held it into his as you let go of the menu. “Don’t you believe me?”
He leaned in, his face tilted to the side as he watched your every move. You felt burning hot with all of his attention on you, specially like this, like your answer, like you, could make his night or ruin it.
“Of course I believe you, but that doesn’t make a difference at the end of the day be-”, you looked up at him.
“Because you act like you don’t like me even if you do”, he interrupted you.
You both went silent, trying to decipher each other’s reactions.
“You only figured that out now?”.
Once again, you caught him off guard. Yunho expected at least a shy smile from you, but he was the one blushing. The thought of you liking him for a long time made his heart flutter.
“Are you going to show me how much you like you me now?”, he wet his lips, catching your attention to it.
That shut you up, and he smiled wide, clearly satisfied with himself.
“Since when did you get that bold?”, you couldn’t resist the urge to smile yourself.
“Oh, you know perfectly who did this to me, don’t even pretend like it wasn’t you”.
You kept the act, even thought you knew it was true. You never let Yunho’s parents dream about it, but you were the bad influence between the two of you since you two met, all of those years ago.
Then, you gestured for him to come closer to you, and he did in such a naive innocence, that almost made you feel bad about the things you said next.
“What about we go to your house, so I show you all the things I still want to do to you, hm?”
You left the restaurant with a clearly embarrassed, distraught and hurried Yunho pulling you to his car. You both didn’t have much time of your lunch break, but that didn’t mean Yunho wouldn’t use every single second of it to his advantage.

You were ready to go home and collapse on the sofa after a long day at work. It was Friday night so Frankie would have order some form of take out, the fire would be on to take the edge off the chillier evenings and he probably would have stashed some snacks away from his daughter. All signs would point to a good night in, though your interest peaked when you opened the door to see Santiago also sitting at the kitchen table.
“Hey.”
“Oh, hey, Santiago.”
Francisco was hidden behind the fridge door, “Drink?”
“Please.”
You pull off your coat and step further in, your cold nose immediately being alleviated by the warm orange glow filling the room.
“Your pizza’s getting cold.”
You scramble to get your shoes off, hurrying to make your way to the kitchen table, a cardboard box still steaming. Frankie always ordered your favourite, he knew each variation of your takeaway orders from the Chinese down the block to this, the pizza place just on the edge of town.
Sitting down, you open it up and sigh as the cheese stretches apart.
He places a beer in front of you.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
“How’ve you been, Santi?”
He snorts, “See, Fish, that’s how you welcome a guest.”
Frankie rolled his eyes, “Hey, I’m used to you coming and asking for a favour, hermano.”
“I’ve been fine, honey, just making sure my favourite pairing were ok.”
Actually, he was seeing if Frankie still had the hump about getting you a collar, everyone in the kink scene knows what a collar means and Santiago doesn’t necessarily own you. He’s put Francisco through too much shit to do something like it again.
You glance to Frankie, “It’s all been good.”
“You didn’t tell her how pissed you were, did you?”
“Of course, not. We’ve settled this, quit talking about it.”
You never questioned what they spoke about in their native language, it was clear they didn’t want you to know, it was also apparent that Frankie was annoyed and Santiago was fucking lapping it up, a smirk on his face.
“Now, now boys.”
You chew your food with a smile and the atmosphere calms.
They continue to ask about your day and all the usual tales about an ordinary suburban life before you can’t bring yourself to take another bite. As you tidy everything away, plating up a couple of slices for tomorrow, you catch an unopened parcel addressed to Francisco on the side.
“What’s this?”
Picking it up you see Benny’s handwriting.
“Why’s Benny sending you something?”
“I dunno, it’s Benny, he’s probably found something he thinks is funny.”
“Are you gonna open it?”
“No.”
You tilt your head, “Can I open it?”
Frankie shrugs, “Sure.”
Santiago has a glint in his eye, all he wants to do is take a jab at the fact he’s letting his girl open his mail. He chooses to keep his mouth shut because he doesn’t need Frankie throttling him this evening.
Popping the parcel on the table, you rummage for a knife to break the duck tape.
“Any ideas?”
“Nah, man, knowing Benny it’s some sort of odd sex thing. You sure you want her to open that?”
Frankie honestly couldn’t care less, Benny had sent him some shit in the past, including a fake letter with lacy underwear hanging from the seal. Benny thought he’d have a laugh however he used it as an excuse to move and never come face-to-face with that postal worker again. It was small, what harm could it do?
You press the blade along the sides first before gently cutting the box along the middle, then the next part, is a little bit of a blur.
Your soft touch meant the box didn’t quite do what it was intended to until your face was close. Whatever way Benny rigged it, the lid of the item inside exploded off like an overenthusiastic Jack in the Box, sending a smoke plume of pink.
You heard a chair scrape heftily on tiled floors, felt the pressure of hands grabbing your arms as your back met the countertop behind. Frankie spewed a variety of profanities, both in English and Spanish, as you choked and spluttered on whatever had come from that package.
“I’m going to kill him.”
You blinked, the pink still in your vision.
Frankie brought his hands to your cheeks, callous thumbs rubbing, his big brown eyes searching your face. There was a tingling sensation that spread down your face pleasantly, it wasn’t scary just unusual.
“Everything alright?”
“I - urgh,” you process your words. “What the fuck was that?”
To your surprise, Santiago was still sat down, brows knotted. Benny wouldn’t be this stupid would he?
He draws the box closer, pulling out two pieces of paper. The first reads ‘Have fun you two ;P’, and the second is a pamphlet in a pink equally matching the cloud that escaped.
“Shit.”
“What?” Frankie’s query came from deep within his throat, your pussy clenched.
“I’ve heard of this, it’s just hit the market.”
By the way he says market, you know he means a kinky one.
“Pope, I swear -“
“It’s a powdered aphrodisiac…”
Both you and Frankie look at him with confused expressions, he would never tell either of you how adorable you looked or maybe it’s because those tiny potent particles are in the air.
“And our girl just got a face full of it.”
There was a moment of silence.
“Oh,” you say quietly.
That tingling in your face had travelled, you could feel it in every limbs, running through your veins, pooling in excitement. You wrap your fingers over the edge of the countertop to steady yourself, swallowing hard.
Frankie swipes his tongue over his bottom lip.
“Oh no.”
You try to focus on your breathing, slowing down your increasing heartbeat but it’s seeming impossible, you can feel you legs turning to jelly. All you could think about was getting out of the space, containing your building ecstasy out of the vicinity of two men who, right now, were not burning with desire.
You take a couple of steps and Santiago is on his feet.
“Stop,” he comes forward.
“What, no, we’re not doing this,” Frankie blocks his path.
You try to make your escape as they start to argue.
“Are you serious, Fish? She’s got to get this out of her system.”
“There’s gotta be another option.”
“This isn’t the sort of thing that just wears off when she goes to sleep.”
You can’t remember their argumentative tones sounding this fucking good before. You were salivating at the thought of their heated bodies almost pressed up against each other, their hot breath teasing each other’s skin, muscle taut. The image wouldn’t leave your mind and you froze.
The noise that you released was both a cry of pain and pleasure.
Their voices hush before Frankie cautiously called your name.
Turning round, you pull at the edge of you skirt, your body vibrating. It was like you’d been called out at school, you couldn’t look either of them in the eye.
Santiago stood there as he does when things get serious, hands on hips, head hanging low. His eyes are dark.
“On the table.”
Frankie’s cock twitched, mouth hanging slightly agape and he looks back to you.
“Do as he says.”
He could be authoritative when he needed to be Frankie and it made your situation worse. You shuffle, the friction of your thin underwear threatening at your clit. Following their instruction, you pick yourself up onto smooth wooden top, feet dangling.
Santiago took the lead.
His touch sent electric shocks through your knees, pushing them wider. He lifts up your skirt and sees how dark your panties are, he hisses.
“You’re fucking soaked.”
Your lip quivered, “I’m scared.”
He picked up your chin, delivered you a soft smile.
“We’re going to help you, don’t worry.”
You laugh, built up nervous energy does that to you.
He waits for it to pass.
“Lay back for me.”
You continue to do as you’re told, your back meeting the table.
Santiago throws your skirt up and out of the way, fingertips grazing your thighs as he knelt at your feet. He trailed kisses up your leg, starting soft before growing heavier, his teeth nipping at your flesh before he soothed with his tongue.
Your breath was shaky.
“You’re going to be such a good girl for us, aren’t you honey?”
Frankie watches how you shiver, how your chest rises and falls as you steady yourself. The hairs on the back of his neck stand up and the sensation goes straight to his hardening cock, he can’t look away as his friend brushing the tip of his nose over your mound.
You mewl as he presses his lips against that built up bundle of nerves and groans.
“Feel free to step in whenever you like.”
Santiago glances over his shoulder, lips pouted, wet with the residue of your pleasure.
You pick up your head drunkenly, wondering why Santiago had stopped but also to look at him, eyes glossed with held back tears. The corner of your lips curl with a feeble smile, you’re worried about him.
“Just concentrate on what you’re doing.”
Frankie comes over and crashes his lips onto yours, your head falling back with the force of his action. You gasp, only allowing him to slip in his tongue and roam your mouth, yours working in tandem. He fumbles to undo your shirt buttons before his hands claw at freshly exposed skin, his thumbs following the curvature of your breasts.
Santiago hooked your underwear to one side, the tip of his tongue licking along the creases of your outer lips with careful precision.
You moan into Frankie’s mouth and he gladly accepts.
He pulls your shirt further open, catching the elasticated straps of your bra and running along the edge to free your breasts from the cups. He grabs them in handfuls, breathing in every delicious noise that escaped you.
Santiago’s cock was straining against his jeans, the air he was breathing thick with the scent of your juices. Letting go of your hip, he carries on licking you whilst his free hand pulled at his belt, popping open the button and unzipping with a satisfied sigh. He was throbbing, his balls feeling heavier than usual, he was going to take you on this fucking table if it was the last thing he did on earth.
Frankie finally let you come up for air but it didn’t mean he stopped.
His kisses ran down your neck and along your décolletage, his patchy whiskers scratching. You ran your fingers through his brown curls, nails digging into the scalp, raising his face up. His Adam’s apple bobbed as the saliva built against his cheeks, the colour of his eyes no longer visible.
And Santiago?
Santiago didn’t like not having some attention.
“Fuck!”
You cry as he presses his tongue flat against your cunt and licks in one lengthily swoop, your legs clamping around his head.
“Santi.”
Your shoulders fall back as he takes another lick.
If looks could kill, Santiago knows he’d be dead, the glare Frankie delivered him was enough to do that but it only made him smirk behind you. He chose to ignore the other man, taking two fingers and slipping them into your folds.
You moan, back arching as the spark ignited.
Frankie’s brows furrowed, expression stern but Santiago had only brought you closer.
Returning to your neck, he locked himself tightly into the crook, sucking hard.
“Shit.”
He was going to leave a mark.
His teeth grazed your chest, he moved down the middle before his slopping nose nudged your one breast. He pursed his lips before taking your nipple in his mouth and biting gently.
You hissed through gritted teeth, your hand reaching for the back of his head once again.
You were fit to burst.
Santiago was ruthless, pumping in and out of your weeping cunt at an alarming pace whilst Frankie was playing and nuzzling at your breast like a wild animal. You couldn’t see yourself but you know their brown eyes were dark, hungry to soak up every piece of pleasure you had to offer.
You weren’t going to last much longer.
The fever had entered every fibre of your being, ran hot through your veins and vibrated every muscle, your stomach coiling. Your skin was tingling, the pink film over your eyes lifting, bursting into white spots. Your walls were fluttering around Santiago’s digits and he knew exactly what he had to do then.
He straightened up, the tip of his cock notching the edge of the table as he continued to stroke you. He watched in delight as you dug your nails further into Frankie’s scalp, your neck taut as you gasped for air.
His fingertips curled, pressing into that soft sweet spot, thumb closing on your clit.
You screamed, snapping your legs closed yet you still didn’t give him what he wanted and that only coaxes him more.
He draws circles with his thumb as you visibly shake.
“Santi, please,” you whine.
You want him to stop, the sensation overwhelming, the blood rushing to your ears. Your hips rise to try and alleviate the pressure but he’s having none of it.
“You know what I want.”
His voice was low, gravely.
You sob. You were rarely a brat however you knew if you let yourself go, the flood gates would open and with the powder in your system, you had no idea of the outcome. But all three of you knew it had to happen eventually.
“Honey,” Santiago grazed his fingertips over your stomach, “Cum for me.”
He spread his hand and pushed you flat to the table, digging his fingers deep into that spongy spot and you unravelled. Your juices gushed, coating his hand as he removed it to rub over your clit and help you ride out your orgasm.
This is the first time Frankie has seen you squirt.
He finds himself unable to concentrate as he separates from your chest and watches your arousal soaks the kitchen floor.
“Fuuuck, querida.”
The comedown sent shocks through your body, toes and fingers curling.
“I’m sorry,” you say as you gasp for air.
“You don’t need to apologise.”
He kissed your lips gently and that’s all it took for the powder to take effect yet again. You deepen the kiss, placing both hands on his patchy jawline to keep him there.
Santiago unzips his top before desperately pulling it over his head and throwing it to the floor. The sweat already clung to his chest, pre cum already leaking from his cock as he shred his trousers too. Tucking his hands underneath your hips, he hauled you closer to him in one motion, ripping you from Frankie.
He balanced your lower half on the edge of the table.
“Wouldn’t you prefer the bedroom?”
“I need you here…”
He shook his head, focusing on playing with your clit against the radiating tip of his cock. It sent a shiver down your spine, a ragged breath falling from his lips as he stroked your folds. Your hands gripped the wood for dear life, you were in trouble.
“Now.”
And he pushed himself deep in one vigorous snap of the hips.
Santiago groaned, his chest rumbling against you as he brought your body to his.
“Still so tight,” he slurred to Frankie.
“Even after that? You’re losing your touch.”
You have time to catch your breath, walls pulsating around him.
“Eh, I’ll make sure you eat your words later.”
“We all know you’ll be the one with a dick in your mouth.”
Santiago squinted at Frankie to gage whether he was lying through his teeth except the man kept a straight face. Santiago had seen Frankie’s cock in the showers during their years in the military, he knew he’d be a decent size when he was hard, he’d gladly take him.
Ok, now this conversation was taking too long. You groan, “Please, hurry up and fuck me.”
The boys share a laugh.
Neither of them were used to you being like this. Sure, you always wanted sex when it came to it but this was desperate and needy and that mouth of yours, Santiago couldn’t get over it. You were normally so pliant and good for him that he may have to ensure he puts your mouth to good use later.
He swats your ass, sending a shockwave that bucks your hips.
“Been as you asked so politely.”
His grip on your hips tightened, fingernails digging into hot flesh and the thought of your trouble got worse, you were in real fucking trouble now.
Santiago had always fitted in you, his length perfect, his girth enough to stretch you but pleasurable and with the powder, you were riding high. He wasn’t like his usual, meticulous self, he had lost as much sense as you.
It was fast and rough, his cock gliding through your slick.
Everything within you burned, the sounds filling the room, the grunts of Santiago and the moans of you a musical unison.
Frankie couldn’t believe what he was hearing or seeing, every detail crystal clear like he was watching a film against a cinema screen. How every thrust of Santiago’s hips sent a ripple through you muscles, boobs bouncing, your knuckles turning white as you held on, your expression scrunched as he pushed you closer to your next release.
Then there was his cock, hard and constricted against his jeans, he had to get involved before he blew his load.
He scrambled to get his clothes off, the heat now radiating from him.
He was never a selfish lover so he found it surprising that how Santiago dominated you was a bit of a turn on. Maybe that’s why you agreed to their offer when the four of you met that evening, each one of them were different and you liked every single one of them for just that reason.
Though the blood was pumping quickly through his veins, Frankie approached the table cautiously.
Santiago caught him out of the corner of his eye and slowed, he needed to because he knew he was close.
Frankie took your chin, soothed you as he brushed his palm across your face, a thumb rubbing your cheek bone. Your expression relaxed, head falling to the side so you could drunkenly look at him and he smiled.
“Think you can handle me too?”
His thumb crept to you mouth and Santiago stopped, drawing circles on your thighs, cock steady inside you. He waited to see if you’d answer, he knew when you got overwhelmed or had a face full of aphrodisiac powder, your brain would get foggy.
“Yeah.”
It’s quiet, only enough for Frankie to hear, he leans down and delivers the lightest of kisses. You chase for him yet he pulled back, wrapping his other hand around his cock and bringing it to your lips. Much like how Santiago’s looked, the tip was flaming bright, the veins that ran his length bulging at the work of the powder.
Your tongue flicks over your bottom lip before you lick the precum off his tip, he hisses at the touch. Flitting your eyes to his face to check he’s ok, you carry on, taking the end into your mouth and circling the ridge where his skin had pulled back.
The shiver travels through him, a strangled moan that has Santiago’s cock twitching.
“Did you teach her that?”
Frankie laughed cracking under the pressure of two sets of eyes on him.
“No, she does that all by herself.”
“Fuck, how is she so good?”
“I wish I knew.”
Santiago really did because if that was just natural, he was jealous.
You circled Frankie’s tip once more before loosening your jaw and took his length in your mouth, the edge of your nose tickling at his matching brown curls at the base.
Santiago watched you pull back and match the rhythm with his hips.
As you guided yourself back down, Santiago pushed himself back in, your moan travelling along Frankie’s cock. He wrapped his hand the back of your head, fisting your hair as he helped you take what you could, your walls flutter.
“You two are gonna be the death of me.”
You and Santiago shared a look, Frankie unaware as his eyes were screwed shut.
He picked up the speed as you did you best to keep up, humming as your lips tightened around Frankie who steady you more. Santiago took both your ankles and placed them over his shoulder, practically folding you in half as he brought his weight down on you. He couldn’t keep it up much longer and if he was going, he was taking you both with him.
His next thrust hits deep.
The notion knocked the wind out of you, Frankie’s cock falling out of your mouth as you came for air.
Santiago din’t care, the way your cunt reacted to him was so intoxicated and he wanted that over and over until he filled you. Frankie couldn’t blame him either, he needed you to take him more so he could cum down that throat of yours.
They both knew you had it in you but right now, the room almost spinning as the fiery sensation entered every bone.
Frankie guided his cock back to your mouth, pushing gently at the back of your head.
Santiago was relentless, his balls shrinking as they seemed to overfill. His legs were cramping, his knees protesting yet he couldn’t stop. His grunts were now animalistic in nature, the chase for his release timeless.
You couldn’t tell how long the three of you were in that position, could only tell when they were both close and beginning to falter.
Frankie’s fingertips came to your stomach with a featherlight touch and you open your eyes to see his, irises so blown they were black. He pawed at your breast, squeezing a puffy nipple between his thumb and forefinger, your cunt holding closer to Santiago’s cock.
“We’re not gonna last much longer,” Frankie says.
You hum a response before he brings you down his cock and presses you into his belly, your throat constricts and he slides you back. He relaxes his hand on your breast and draws his hand up you décolletage, resting it at the bottom of your neck.
This is his tell.
He pumps you up and down his cock, noting the stutter in Santiago’s hips.
“Ready?”
Frankie puts his hand around your neck and applies light pressure before forcing your head down to the base of his cock. Every part of your body becomes tense, your walls trapping Santiago’s cock deep within you.
“Shit,” he chokes.
He comes thick and fast, his chin falling to his chest as he holds your hips up, his seed spilling messily out of you folds.
You whimper, your legs shaking as your orgasm washes over you.
Frankie felt your back beginning to lift from the table and he knows he’s got a fleeting moment to notch himself a little further. He squeezes your neck more, brings you closer and you feel him at the back of your throat. That immediate muscle spasm causes his cock to twitch and you suck as he groans.
The salty tang fills your mouth, Frankie’s grip loosening against the back of your head.
You slide back, milking his cock as much as you can before you removed him from your lips with an accompanying pop, a string of your saliva trailing.
He snapped to his senses and cupped your face in his hands, “I’m sorry, querida, are you ok?”
You look up at him with swollen lips and glossy doe eyes, fluttering your lashes, dumbfounded.
Santiago stroked your ankles then pulled himself out of you, the cum pooling onto the table. You body shudders from the lose and he presses a smile to your skin before lowering your legs to the table.
“I’ll get you some water.”
He knew you were cock drunk.
“Querida?”
Frankie brushed his nose to yours, teased the hair that clung to your forehead.
It was like you were under water, their voices were muffled and the scenery was swirling, light brighter from the refraction.
“I’m ok,” you mouth was drying out.
He kissed you softly, laying you back against the cooling wood.
“There’s some bottles out in the garage.”
Once you all made it to the bedroom, you were there for the night so Frankie saw it best to stock up. He took the full glass from Santiago, who continued to saunter around the house nude, his soft cock already beginning to harden.
“Are you serious, what is up with you?” Frankie gestured.
“Fuck you.”
He knew the other man would let him too.
Returning to you, Frankie helped ease you from the table, getting you to sit up straight. You took the water from him and chugged it down, he immediately got you another one.
Santiago came back into your view.
“Can we go somewhere a little more comfy?”
“Of course, honey,” he kissed your temple.
Your cunt clenched around nothing. Though you were loving the attention Frankie and Santiago were paying you, you prayed it would end soon just for your pussy's sake.
“D’you want me to carry you?”
Frankie’s fingertips grazed your hip, gently coaxing you to come with him. Your eyes flit down to his cock, his desire apparent, and he looks away sheepishly. A smile drew across your face as you entwined your fingers into his.
“If you don’t mind.”
Sure, the night wasn’t the quiet night in you expected but thank god Frankie and Santiago were there to alleviate you.
“Can’t sleep?”
Santiago sat in the glow of the television, volume low.
You shake your head.
He smiled, “Apparently you might be the only person who’s ever had a face full of Aphrodite’s Powder.”
“Is that what they’re calling it?”
He hummed in response.
You hadn’t moved from the nook in the hallway, your focus on playing with the sleeve of Frankie’s flannel shirt you wore, legs fidgety.
“What’s wrong, honey?”
“Frankie’s out cold and I’m… still itchy.”
Santiago put his phone down and beckoned for you to go over. You scuttle, legs aching and settle into his lap. He coils an arm around your frame, pressing a shoulder to his, your head resting against his temple. With his other hand, he drops two fingers to your clit and draws careful circles.
“I don’t have the energy to fuck you.”
“I know,” you kiss his salt and pepper hairline, “this will do just fine.”
Everything about the evening became a blur, they pushed you through one orgasm then another then another before you’re sure you blacked out. You wake up to the stillness of the house, the calm of the morning sun breaking through the kitchen window. The television had switched off on it’s own accord and Santiago was sleeping softly, his hand resting between your thighs.
Yes, this will do just fine, you thought, nestling back under his jaw.

I love your animations, but I'm still struggling to view them without thinking about their last canon interaction. Can you tell me what you envision their makeup would be like?
(Lol I’m so sorry to all the ppl who work on Nocturne reading this 💀 and just generally everyone)
Thank you so much that means a lot! But now, you’ve unveiled my trap card and given me an excuse to write my thoughts on Mizrak and Olrox, so this will get pretty long. Also, this may end up being very subjective/personal taste in some parts so I hope everyone doesn’t mind (and hope you don't mind the funky grammar!) This is an open discussion too, I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts!
Now with that out of the way here we go!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This is old unfinished storyboards for a previous iteration of their makeup scene I did back in jan, never finished them due to uni/another project, I'd like to someday tho because guh the themes.)
Now first of all, I’d like to think that a proper makeup/conversation wouldn’t happen for a bit and would be drawn out because they’re both still hurt, angry, sad, and confused at not only each other but themselves. They’re not the type to get into loud verbal arguments for this, definitely some verbal jabs at each other though. Mean petty comments, oh absolutely. I’d like to personally believe they’d still yearn for each other, perhaps even more so after Olrox indirectly confessed and Mizrak practically turned it down.
Now, there are soooo many different ways that they’d even see each other again, many different ways it could come to that initial point where they’ve made up. Though I’ll go with one of my personal idea (which people keep egging me on to animate WHICH… I dunno I don’t have free time rn so I’m just blurting it out into written format while I can 😭 I want to though, maybe later in the year for fun if season 2 doesn’t beat me to it).
Have to establish my vision, but I’d think that Richter, Maria, Annette, Alucard and Mizrak are hopping from abandoned town to abandoned town due to the inability to return to Macheoul for the time being. While Olrox has been on his own (doing what, I’m not even sure my personal headcanon for this.) I think Alucard and Mizrak have a conversation about Alucard’s past in a group setting and it strikes a chord with the monk- since after all, Alucard’s dad is THE Dracula, and his mother (bless her, I miss her) is human. You know how that whole backstory goes, and it parallels Olrox a lot. Also Mizrak and Annette will absolutely have a deep conversation too. Just solely from the comment that was made:
“We’re all descended from gods, we just have to learn how to draw their power.” Nocturne s1 ep 2
Tumblr media
Annette clearly having powers from Haitian gods, absolutely challenging how Mizrak was only certain of one God. Yes, Mizrak is extremely stubborn and it will take him a bit, but he’s different from the Abott in the sense that he will not let religion blind his path to good. He ‘uses his head’ as said before, not god, not the church- his head. Mizrak’s idea of the church and his faith is now a mess and it’s up to him on how he interprets it and rewrites it knowing what he knows now (this is important I swear when it comes to the makeup scene).
Now we’re at the actual scene at hand: Olrox and Mizrak making up.
Side note: oh god I’m practically writing this whole thing as if its going to be played out for an episode, but that’s how it works in my brain LOL but you asked so you shall receive. I am so sorry HAHA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s been a lot of build up from this point where they have been meeting up here and there by themselves, but you can clearly tell whenever they do they both hurt and yearn- which would lead to their proper makeup scene. I’m just inserting this for fun, but I’d imagine this would take place in an abandoned church in the town they’re camping in for the night. For a lot of symbolic reasons; devotion, sacrifice, forgiveness, gathering. This along with the simple fact, Mizrak’s relationship to the church has changed completely from here. I’d like to think that even when he’s trying to rekindle that connection with God, it leaves that icky overcoat on his skin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Faith is a company in the hardest of times, when the world abandons you.” Nocturne ep 3
The church indeed had saved him from whatever terrible horrific thing happened to him in the past, however whatever saved him can still be horrible and terrible too. It is infallible. It is cruel in an attempt to gather community and peace. So, yes- faith can be company when the world abandoned him, but his faith is no longer with the church. He’s taking it back and finding some place else to rest it. (Olrox, it’s Olrox, probably ooc but I’m making it Olrox).
In this church, the conversation between them will initially start as a discussion about religion, faith and that whole sort of deal. It’ll open up about Mizrak exact struggles from his mouth and how he particularly feels about it, then we get more insight onto Olrox’s thoughts, his perception of the church and perhaps even a deep dive into Aztec history again. Maybe even talk about Olrox’s Quetzalcoatl form, though really this is self indulgent. It’s an aspect I’d absolutely love to be explored and I think it being discussed in revere in a Catholic Church, with Mizrak actually being open to it due to his new perspective? Oh my god, sign me up. Regardless, it would hold similar energy to episode 6: Gulity Men to be Judged. There’s a weight to it.
Then it gets heavier when the conversation pivots.
Mizrak’s attachment in the church was due to him caring about people and, hypothetically, to save him from whatever detriment came for him in the past. The last canon interaction, their falling out they had in season 1 was because he cared about others. To a fault. Now, here he is, standing in front of someone he cares about. It’s going to open a conversation between what’s happening between them and finally properly discuss what happened from their last canon interaction in nocturne season 1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lot of finger and hand brushing from Olrox, which at first I’d think gets no reaction as an attempt for restraint before Mizrak warms up to it and even reciprocates by doing the same thing. All of this is very gentle in my opinion. It’s slow, tender, and most importantly vulnerable. It has the physical contact reminiscent of their first fast rough and tug in the courtyard and piggybacks off the vulnerability they both have when they both stand next to the window in episode 6. They probably also just physically get closer to each other at the moment. Just gradually though. The distance gets closer and closer until their foreheads are practically touching without them realizing it. They’re comfortable though, they don’t want to leave.
They absolutely get to a point where they both admit to saying “I love you” without straight up saying “I love you” because that’s just a very them thing. Or maybe they do straight up state because Olrox does admit he was in love (with his partner) and doesn’t shy from that fact. It’s a nice conversion of the trope and great to hear from a mlm couple to say I love you… but man do I do love when characters get all poetic-y when their profess their devotion to each other by literally talking in prose, so maybe with good writing both can be done and still be quite powerful but still be gentle.
In my interpretation YEAH I’LL MAKE THEM KISS AFTER THIS, this is my vision after all. Also, yeah they’re gonna fuck. In the church? Perhaps. Is it a tad OOC, maybe. HOWEVER, consider imagery and symbolism. I just think the image of it would be great, even if it was censored to hell and back, it can be so artistically done. Just imagine the implication alone with me for a second. I think the whole concept of doing it in a church is an interesting build upon the quotes from the show;
“God is not here. This church is an empty box.” From the first Castlevania series.
Tumblr media
“House of God? This place is just a heap of bricks and stone.” From Nocturne said by Maria.
Tumblr media
The church is a husk, especially having it abandoned- it’s rather what you do with that box that makes all the difference. The people inside are the driving force, so I think it’s both poetic and funny to have Mizrak and Olrox fucking in an abandoned church. Surface level: fuck you god I’m fucking my hot vampire boyfriend in your house. Deeper level: I could write a whole thing on this but I’ll refrain. You can get the gist of breaking free of restraint, and devotion and letting himself be human, rather than a soldier (which he already slowly does).
Though also this sex scene isn’t necessary, I just like exploring explicit content in artistic ways, especially if I can throw in religious symbols and heighten that hunger/devotion to a person- but the “I love you” in the church is pretty powerful already.
Then after all of this they take it at their own pace. However, they only live life once and continue together like that- they both know this concept very well because of the very nature of who they are, so they spend it in each other’s company.
Now you also get the squad’s reactions, well namely because I do not think this would be an easily hidden thing. Like absolutely could get away with it in season 1, but everyone will know something is up for sure in my iteration. The 'hypothetical' Mystery Animator season 2 iteration. As subtle as their longing stares and quiet hand touches may be reserved for just them- those little interactions are loud.
Richter would absolutely be in shambles over Olrox, the killer of his mother, and Mizrak being a thing. Both in a “this is the most horrible thing that’s happened in my life” and also a he’s going to be an absolute shithead to Mizrak and make fun of him, lightheartedly of course. Alucard would absolutely have an interesting perspective because again, his parents. Maria already has disdain for the church plus the “vampires are evil… and evil has to be fought.” However, in the presence of Alucard, I think a lot will change because he’s half-vampire. Annette, I’m unsure of what her reaction would be, because I’m very sure she’d be receptive to Alucard being a vampire and then would appreciate Olrox’s mindset and values. However, gonna keep hammering, Olrox killed Julia Belmont which I feel will be comedically hammered in if Olrox decides to hang around the squad occasionally.
And with that, we’re done! (I think)
Thank you for reading 🫶 this probably will not happen in cv s2 but it’s fun blurting out my hc. I’m really excited to see what they do, and even perhaps even go in the opposite direction due to episode limitations… maybe a season 3 👀 who knows.

The ARC and the Monster
Summary: Three months after the events that left him with prosthetic legs and a prosthetic arm, ARC Knight Echo is on a journey to relearn himself. And while on this journey, he discovers a village that doesn't exist.
Pairing: ARC Knight Echo x Reader
Word Count: 5810
Warnings: Mentions of death
Mando'a Used: sen'ika - little bird (according to the website I saw, lol)
A/N: I am very bad at writing fight scenes, I should work on that, lol. This is a twist on Beauty and the Beast, and I'm actually happy with it, which is surprising.

“Morning again, darlin’,” You smile tiredly at the merchant, “Bacon and a fresh loaf of bread?”
“I don’t suppose you have anything new?” You ask as you lean against the counter.
The Merchant laughed, “You know I don’t, darlin’. One loaf of bread, and one rack of bacon. As normal.”
You sigh and rest your head on your palm, “I am so tired of bacon.” You say with a sigh.
“Ah, I know darlin’.” He reaches out and lightly pats your hand, “How are things at the palace?”
“Same as ever. As per normal.” You smile at him as you take the bag of food, “How’s the wife?”
“Exhausted. We both are. We never expected our son to be an infant for almost 30 years.” He sighs, he accepts the credits and you wave as you head towards the door.
“Maybe someday the curse will be broken,” You call from the door.
“You won’t find many people who still have hope, darlin’. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
You wave and step out of the shop, allowing the door to swing shut behind you. You neatly side-step several other people, and start walking the meandering path headed back towards the manor.
At this point, you can walk the path while wearing a blind-fold, you’re so familiar with the path between the village and the old mansion you call home.
You are, or were, the head chef for the Duke of these lands. In charge of all of the cooking and all of the food shopping. At the time it was a good job, high paying with incredible job security, and a chance to move up in the world.
Of course…that’s not what actually happened.
Thirty years ago a stranger appeared at the palace doors on the night of the young Baron’s 15th birthday. The Baron himself answered the door, though it wasn’t his duty, and he sent the guest away with a harsh word and a violent hand.
The Stranger was a Sorceress, and she was so put out by the Baron’s actions that she cursed the entire land. The Duke and Duchess vanished, trapped in a painting to your best guess, the young Baron twisted and changed, until his looks matched his personality…and everyone unfortunate enough to live in this Duchy ended up trapped in a time loop.
This day, the day of the Baron’s 15th birthday, repeats over and over and over again. And the only way for the Curse to break is if the Baron show’s any true remorse.
But…
Well…
He doesn’t.
You stop in front of the manor, and then turn to walk around the building to enter through the rear. No need to draw attention to yourself, if at all possible.
There are some good sides to being trapped in a time loop, you suppose as you push the door open. For example, anything that happens today will be reset when the clock strikes midnight. Any dishes that get broken will be repaired, any injuries will be healed, and any money spent will end up right back in your account.
Also, no one can die.
But no one can be born either.
You kind of feel bad for one of the Housekeepers, she was 7 months pregnant when this whole fiasco began, and now, thirty years later, she’s still 7 months pregnant.
But that not dying has been a boon. Especially those first few years when the Baron was so angry at everything that he lashed out at everyone.
It was incredibly…strange. Getting ripped to shreds and then waking up in bed the next morning like nothing happened.
Luckily, the Baron has since learned that his temper tantrums have no lasting effect, and has since locked himself away. You don’t know what he eats…and to be honest, you don’t care. You have more important things to do than deal with a self important brat.
You step around one of the butlers, who is dutifully dusting a vase, “Good morning, Chaz,” You greet.
“Good morning, Miss.” He replies, “Did you have a nice walk?”
Your smile is wry, “Well, it’s warm and sunny, right now, and not a cloud in the sky. So, I was miserable.”
He chuckles, “I sent the young ones to the kitchen for a baking lesson, they seemed thrilled.”
“Well, if I had the choice between cookies and math, I would choose cookies too, Chaz.” You joke as you lightly pat him on the shoulder, and then step around him.
“Quite right, Miss.” He says with a laugh, “Also, the Young Master is in a foul mood today, I would avoid the southern gardens.”
“When isn’t the Young Master in a foul mood.” You reply, “But I’ll tell people to stay clear.” You toss him one last smile, and walk the short distance from the side entrance to the kitchen, and you set your bag on the counter, “I have bread…and bacon.” you call out to your staff.
The room erupts into groans of dismay. “If I have to have bacon one more time,” One of the maids says dramatically as she drapes herself across the prep table, “I’m going to throw myself off a bridge.”
“That would be impressive since there are no bridges in the Loop.” You counter dryly, “Also. I’m making soup with bacon and chicken.” The moaning slows to a stop, “Great. Also, Chaz says stay out of the Southern Garden. Also, who’s doing baking lessons?”
“Granny’s got the kids,” One of the other maids calls from near the window, “And I saw the young Baron head into the Garden, he looked mad enough to spit fire.”
“Alright everyone, let’s get to work. We have a manor to feed.” You call, and the room devolves into organized chaos, and you smile. Running a kitchen is a dance, and it’s a dance you’ve performed over ten thousand times. Everyone is in their positions, and though the room looks chaotic…well, they’re performing a masterpiece.
You smile and slide yourself into your position, and begin your part of the dance.
***************
It has been three months since the events that saw ARC Knight Echo losing his arm, and both of his legs in a magical explosion. And while he has prosthetics, and they work well, and he’s comfortable with them, he’s still not comfortable with his new body.
It’s why he went to Rex and asked for time. Time to heal on his own, without people hovering around him. Time to get used to the prosthetics and the way that his body moves now.
And after two weeks of camping, he’s starting to feel more like himself. Still, he’s not quite ready to return home just yet. For all that he claims that he hates camping…he’s actually enjoying himself. Enjoying the hunting and the fishing, and navigating the land with nothing more than a map and a compass.
Still, Echo is beginning to think it’s time to return home. There’s only so much time he can spend on his own before he starts missing his brothers, and starts talking to the trees around him.
He glances at his map, and then at the bridge several feet away, “Well…I’ll get to the top of the hill, and then I’ll turn around and head home.” He says to himself. He looks over the map one more time, and then folds it and slides it into his jacket pocket. He then hefts his bag over his shoulder, and he crosses the bridge.
He walks up the shallow hill, crests the top, and then he stops. Slowly, without moving his eyes, he pulls the map out of his jacket and he looks down at it, and then back in front of him.
There is not supposed to be a village here. And yet there is.
A well settled village, at that. The houses look old, like they’ve been there for a while, and the road is cobbled, rather than dirt. Echo pockets his map, and carefully adjusts his jacket so he’s able to rest his hand on the pommel of his blade.
And then he starts walking down the cobbled road.
This is strange, and he loves solving strange.
******************
Once more, you walk the distance between the manor and the village. You go to the grocers, you buy bacon and bread while making jokes about having literally anything else, and you leave the shop.
Normally you don’t pay any attention to your surroundings, you’ve done this thousands of times now, but for some reason, today you do. Maybe you’re just feeling wistful, remembering the days when you could crest the hill and cross the bridge and head into the forest.
You flicker your gaze towards the village exit, and your breath catches in your throat.
There, standing next to the welcome sign, is a man. A strange man.
And, after thirty years, there are no strange men in this village.
You turn and walk towards him. He’s tall, though not the tallest man you’ve met, with dark skin and dark hair. As you get closer, you notice that his hair is curly, and that he’s got a prosthetic arm.
By the time you’re close enough to talk to him, you’re sure. “You’re from outside,” You breathe out.
He pins you in place with a curious stare, “If you mean that I’m not from this village, then yes, you’re right.” He looks away from you, his dark eyes scanning the village properly, “This village isn’t on any map.”
A pained look crosses your face, “We used to be,” You say quietly, “But…not anymore, I suppose.”
He glances at you, and then at some of the other people in the village, some have stopped what they’re doing to stare at him, while others blatantly ignore him, “Why are they looking at me like that?”
“People don’t come here,” You explain, “I…I’m sorry, what’s your name?”
“I’m Echo. Echo Fett. I’m an ARC Knight of Mandalore.”
You introduce yourself with a smile, “I work at the manor, as the head chef.” You explain as you motion, vaguely, to the manor, “Um, so you asked what people are looking at you-”
“Yeah. They’re staring at me. I know prosthetics aren’t normal-”
“What? No! That doesn’t have anything to do with it.” You hasten to say, as you reach out and touch his arm lightly, “Just…please, will you listen to our story?”
He turns his attention back on you, “Yeah, alright.”
You tug him off the main road, and to a small park. Families used to picnic there, but not anymore.
You sit on one of the benches, and wait until he’s sitting next to you. “So…what’s the story with this place?” Echo asks.
“Um…okay. So this story begins thirty years ago, on the night of the Baron’s 15th birthday.” You explain, your voice quiet, “You have to understand, the Baron was never a good child. He was always harsh, always cold, always mean…no one ever had anything good to say about him. I can’t even describe just how awful of a boy the Baron is.”
“Okay. So he’s a brat, the son of a Duke?”
“That’s right,” You nod, “Well, there was a surprise visitor. And for some reason the Baron answered the door himself. He turned the stranger away with violence…and it turned out that the stranger was actually a sorceress.”
“Oh no.”
“The entire Duchy was cursed as well.” You say quietly, “The Duke and Duchess were trapped in paintings. The Baron has become a monster. And the rest of us…well, we’re trapped.”
“In what way?” Echo asks.
“We have to live the same day, over and over and over again. We can do different things, within reason, but time never moves on for us.” Your voice is soft, “You’re the first new person we’ve met in years.”
He leans back against the bench, and he doesn’t say anything for a really long time, “So…what happens when time resets with me still here?”
You bite your lower lip, “I don’t know.” You hesitate, “I would suggest staying away from the manor, though. Until we know if the loop affects you…you need to stay away from the baron.”
“Why?” Echo asks.
“Because he’ll kill you.”
Echo stills, and something flinty enters his eyes, “Does he kill people often?”
“Oh, he hasn’t killed any of his employees in five years now.” You try to soothe, “And, well, it resets at midnight anyway, so…”
“Does that make it better?” Echo asks, his voice very gentle.
Your hands shake slightly as you remember razor sharp claws and teeth dripping with saliva, “...no.” You admit. You clench your hands tightly in your lap, to try and stop the trembling.
Echo glances at your hands, and reaches to place one of his hands over yours, “It’s okay. You’re safe here.”
“For now.” You answer softly, your hands moving slightly to lightly grip his hand, the metal is cool under your hands, but is also soothing somehow, “It’s why you need to leave.” You say as you look from his hand to his face, “If you stay here-”
“No.” He interrupts, he smiles at you to soften the harshness of his word, “Look, you said that the curse is based around the Baron, right?”
“Yeah. He changed, and then his parents were trapped in the painting, and then the duchy was trapped in the loop. In that order.” You reply.
“Okay, so with the curse centered on the Baron, then to kill the curse we need to kill the Baron,”
You’re already shaking your head, “He’s too violent. If we get too close to him he’ll kill us.”
Echo frowns thoughtfully, “Then I’ll do it.”
You start and stare at him with wide eyes.
“I’m an ARC Knight, this is what we do.” Echo explains, his voice very kind.
“Free people from decade long curses?” You ask doubtfully.
He laughs softly, “Fight things that other people can’t.” He squeezes your hand, very gently, “Trust me.”
You hesitate for a long moment, and then you slowly nod. “Okay Echo.”
He smiles at you and gently releases your hands, “I’m going to need your help. Can you get me into the manor?”
Your gaze lingers on his clothing for a moment, and anxiety twists your stomach, “What if he claws you?” You ask, “His claws are…they ripped through me in one…”
Echo reaches into his backpack and pulls out a small metal orb, it’s glowing faintly, “This is an armor sphere. This is where I store my ARC armor when I’m not actively using it. Don’t worry, sen’ika, I’ll be wearing armor when I fight the Baron.”
“...okay.” You stand and gather your shopping bag in your arms, “Then you should probably follow me.”
“Yes ma’am,”
Echo follows you through the streets, and down the path that leads to the manor, and he follows you around the building to the side entrance. You hold the door to the manor open for him, and he steps into the worn down hallway that leads to the servants quarters.
Chaz is waiting for you. His severe gaze looks from Echo, to you, and then back to Echo. “The Young Master is in the library,” He says in a clipped tone, “I have instructed everyone to remain in their rooms for the time being.” He exhales slowly, and then lightly touches Echo on the shoulder, “Good luck, young man.”
“Thank you,” Echo replies, growing slightly startled when Chaz bows deeply, and then turns and vanishes into a side room. “Sen’ika, I need someplace to put my armor on.” He says to you.
“We can use the kitchen, it’s the one place in the manor the Baron never comes to.” You say, “Plus it’ll be empty right now.”
“Great, lead the way.” He follows you down a side hallway and into the kitchen, where you help him clear one of the prep tables, and he activates the little sphere, and lays all of his armor out on the table, and he quickly starts strapping the pieces to his body, “Where’s the library?” He asks.
“It’s part of the main building, on the third floor.” You explain, “You’ll never find it unless I show you…it’s not like there are any maps of the manor.”
He cuts his gaze towards you, “I don’t want you anywhere near the fighting.”
“I’ll be careful,” You reply, “But you’ll never find it without me.”
He sighs quietly, “Fine, but you will listen when I tell you to do something.”
“Yes sir,”
He finishes pulling his armor on, and he hooks his blade to his hip and then grabs his helmet, “Alright. How big is the library?”
“Massive. The Duchess was all for education.” You answer as you head out of the kitchen and into the hall, “She purchased several copies of every book ever printed and all of them are kept in the library.”
“So it’s cramped?”
“Less so than you might assume…it’s just very big.” You guide him through the twisting halls, until you reach the main living quarters. Unlike the servants quarters, which are clean and well maintained, the main house is dimly lit.
The wallpaper is ripped and torn, and there are some places where the wooden floorboards have been ripped up and flung into the wall. Pictures have been torn to shreds, and none of the furniture is usable. “The Baron did all of this?”
You nod, “He destroys the house every morning…at this point it doesn’t even take him an hour to destroy the house.” You carefully step around one of the floorboards, “Follow me, we need to go upstairs.”
You move silently through the house, and Echo is just as quiet, in spite of the armor he’s wearing. Finally you stop in front of an ornate door, “Is this the library?” Echo asks, his voice hushed.
“It is,” You hesitate, “You can still leave, Echo.”
“I’m not doing that.” Echo replies.
You sigh softly, and then you push the door open just enough that the pair of you can enter. Just like every other room in the main house, the library is destroyed, but you lightly touch Echo’s arm and you point at the ceiling, “There.”
Echo’s gaze follows your finger and he inhales sharply, “That used to be a man?” He asks.
The creature is shrouded in shadow, with claws long enough to rip a man to shreds without trying, and teeth that barely remain in his jaw. He clings to the ceiling, as though gravity has no effect on him.
“Yes,” You whisper, “That used to be the Baron.”
Echo motions for you to get back, and draws his blade, “How do I get him down?” He hisses.
You glance at him nervously, and then you lift your fingers to your mouth, and you release a loud whistle that echoes through the chamber. And then you immediately duck under a fallen bookcase.
The Baron’s eyes snap open, revealing blood red eyes, and he releases a noise that sounds like a million angry snakes hissing at the same time. And you watch as the Baron moves, lunging at Echo with his terrifying speed.
But Echo is just as fast, and his blade is just as sharp as the Baron’s claws.
You watch, terrified, as Echo proves just how good the average ARC Knight is, and you gasp when, in a smooth motion, Echo severs the Baron’s head from his body.
You slide out from your hiding space, and take several steps towards Echo, when the pressure in the room changes suddenly. You clamp your hands over your ears as the pressure increases and becomes painful.
You feel Echo’s hand lightly against your shoulder, and just barely hear him calling your name. And then there’s the sensation of a baseball bat slamming against your chest and the world goes dark.
**********
You wake with a painful groan. Your entire body hurts, and your head is throbbing. You let out a noise of discontent as your bedroom door bursts open and Chaz hurries in, “Good you’re awake. Get up, get dressed.”
You groan and roll out of bed, landing on the floor with a painful thump, “Why does everything hurt?” You rasp out.
“You were standing right there when the curse reset,” Chaz replies as he pulls you to your feet, “You took the brunt of the reset.” He explains.
“Oh…it sucks.”
“It does.” He agrees as he shoves an outfit into your hands, “Get dressed, you need to get out of the manor.”
You clumsily take the clothes and start peeling off your sleepwear, replacing them with the loose tunic Chaz gave you, “Why?”
“Echo killed the Baron yesterday, didn’t he?” Chaz asks in return.
“Yeah. He did. But if the world reset-”
“I broke a plate yesterday, it’s still broken.”
Your fingers pause on the ties of your shirt, “That’s impossible.”
“It’s improbable, but killing the Baron caused a change. You need to go back to the village and see if you can find Echo. He’s not in the manor.” Chaz pauses and leans in, “I think he was flung outside of the loop, since he’s not a part of it.” He motions to the blue and black backpack sitting in the corner of your room.
You pull your trousers on, and then pull on your boots, “That makes sense,” you say quietly, “What if he doesn’t come back?”
“He’ll come back. I have a good feeling.” Chaz replies, and then he grips your shoulders tightly, “Listen. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, but I think if we kill the Baron once for every year that we’ve been cursed, the curse will break.”
“30 deaths? There’s no way. We already know that the Baron remembers things that happen in previous resets.” You remind him, “There’s only so many times that Echo will be able to kill him with a sword.”
“Agreed. Don’t worry, we’ll handle it.” Chaz pushes you out the door, “Now go!”
“I’m going, I’m going.” You allow him to propel you out of your room, and down the hall, and then out the side door, and he slams the door behind you.
You huff out a heavy breath, and groan as pain shoots through you. You slowly walk the familiar path to the village, where you’re greeted by enthusiastic shouts. The grocer is missing a loaf of bread he sold the day before. The baker’s flour level is down just a little bit.
There’s change for the first time in years.
You walk to the Village sign, and lean heavily against it, your arm folded protectively against your ribs. You had forgotten how pain lingered. You don’t like it.
Your head snaps up when you see movement from in front of you, and a relieved smile crosses your face when Echo, still clad in armor, walks over to you. “Are you okay?” You ask.
He pulls his helmet off, “Are you? I found myself on the other side of the bridge when I woke up. Why are you holding your ribs?”
“They’re bruised, I think.” You reply, “I woke up in bed because of the reset.”
“So it didn’t work.” Echo says with a frown.
“Well, it is. But the curse is just…cracked. At least, that’s what we think.” You step closer to him, “Chaz broke a plate yesterday, and it’s still broken.”
Echo frowns, “You have a theory?”
“We think that if the Baron dies once for every year that we’ve been trapped here, the curse will break.”
“Thirty deaths?”
“Yeah. Sorry.”
Echo exhales sharply, “How many more times can I use my sword before he learns how to avoid it?”
“Better to not risk trying it again,” You reply as you reach out and take Echo’s hand, “But, we have lots of weapons…assuming you know how to use them.”
“I haven’t encountered a weapon I can’t use,” Echo replies dryly, “Come on, back to the manor.”
“Yeah.” This time Echo guides you to the manor, and through the side door.
Chaz is sitting in the kitchen with one of every weapon from the armory, “He’s in the west garden today,” He says as soon as he sees Echo, “Which one of these do you want?”
Echo presses his blade into your hands, “Keep this safe for me,” He says, and you nod, curling your arms around it, while he picks through the weapons, eventually grabbing a pair of axes which he spins expertly, “How do I get to the west garden?”
“I’ll show you,” You say.
“You’re already hurt,” Chaz says, “I’ll show you,” He says to Echo.
“But-”
Echo smiles at you as he pulls his helmet on, “Don’t worry, sen’ika. I’ll be fine.”
You watch him walk out the room, led by Chaz, and you tighten your grip around Echo’s blade.
***********
You wake up in your bed, dressed in the tunic and pants from the day before, with your arms wrapped securely around Echo’s blade.
You lay in bed for ten minutes. Whatever Echo did to the Baron clearly worked, since the day reset less than three hours after it began.
You roll out of your bed, and hurry out of the manor. And by the time you reach the village sign, Echo is waiting for you, his arms folded. “You’re okay?” You ask as soon as you’re close enough.
“A few bruises,” Echo replies as he takes his blade back, “I don’t want to get close to him again, I don’t think.”
“We’ll figure something out.” You say as you hug him quickly.
“I’m sure we will.”
The third death involves a massive amount of crossbows, which pin the Baron to the wall of the ballroom.
The eighth death involves a truly terrifying amount of fire.
The fifteenth death involves an explosive made from flour and gunpowder.
“Halfway there,” Echo says as he leans back on the bench in the garden, “Only fifteen more deaths.”
“Are you okay?” You ask as you reach out and touch a bruise on his cheek.
“Just exhausted, sen’ika.” He smiles at you, “The people sure seem happy with all of the changes,” He notes.
“Change is good, Echo. Being trapped is…it’s a kind of hell. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.” You say quietly.
“Well, with any luck, you’ll soon be free from this curse.” Echo says with a grin, “What’ll you do first?”
“Leave. I’m going to go literally anywhere else, and I’m never going to eat bacon again.”
Echo laughs, “Maybe I’ll take you back to Mandalore with me,” he says lightly, “It’s very different from this little village.”
“Oh, I’d like that-” You start to say, only to pause when something hits your face. The bustle of the village, just one street over, descends into silence, as the sky opens and rain starts falling.
You scramble to your feet, holding your hands out as the cool water splashes against your hands. And then you laugh, “Rain,” You whisper, “It’s raining!” You laugh again and spin in the rain, turning to grin at Echo, “Echo! You brought the rain back!”
From the next street over you can hear triumphant shouting, cheers of delight, and laughter.
You spin away from Echo, giggles of sheer delight falling from your lips as you stand in the pouring rain.
And Echo…well, he leans his elbows on his knees and he watches you with a fond smile on his lips. And when loud music starts playing the next street over, he gets to his feet, and he lightly takes your hand in his, an impish look crossing his face, “May I have this dance?”
You grin at him, and spin into his arms, “You may,” You agree as you look up into his eyes.
The seventeenth death involves an intricate trap with ropes, pulleys, and the heaviest bookshelf in the manor.
The twenty-first death involves a pit filled with lances.
The twenty-ninth death is much more straightforward, with Echo using a truly amazing number of potions to kill the Baron.
“This is the last one,” You whisper as you apply a healing ointment to Echo’s arm, and then reach up to patch up the bruise on his cheek.
“I think you’re more worried about this than I am.” Echo teases as he gently grabs your wrist, and lowers them away from his face, “Everything is going to be fine, I promise.”
“This is the closest we’ve been to freedom in years, Echo. I’m just…I’m nervous, that’s all.”
He smiles at you, warm and soft, and he leans in and lightly presses his forehead against yours, “There’s no need to be nervous.” He murmurs, “I’m going to take care of you.”
You release a shaky breath, “Okay. Are you sure you want to use your sword?” You ask one more time, just to make sure.
He laughs softly, “Yes. I’m sure. He won’t be expecting it.”
“But-”
Echo presses a light kiss to the inside of your wrist, “Trust me, cyar’ika. This is for the best.”
“I do trust you, but I’m still nervous.” You murmur, even as heat floods your face at his gentle kiss.
He smiles reassuringly at you, and gently releases you, “Go and take your position.”
You nod once, and take half a step back. Then you hesitate, and step back towards him and stand on your toes to press a kiss against his cheek, “Good luck, Echo.” And then you turn and hurry away.
Echo lets out a quiet chuckle, and then he pulls his helmet on. He walks the familiar path to the main room of the house, and he glances up at the second floor, where all of the employees of the Manor are standing, watching.
There’s the sound of angry hissing, and then the Baron is there. Twenty-nine deaths have left the creature angry and paranoid. Angry enough that his gaze was locked on Echo, and not any of the innocent people in the room.
Echo spins his blade with the ease of someone who knows what he’s doing and he takes a step towards the creature, “It’s time for this to end.” Echo says flatly.
The creature snarls and throws himself at Echo.
But Echo has already killed this creature twenty-nine times. He knows how he moves, how he acts in a given situation, and he’s clever enough to be able to make educated guesses on how he’ll react in unknown situations.
The whole encounter has already played out, hundreds of different times, in Echo’s mind. He already knows how it’s going to end. And so do the people watching the last fight.
Echo moves, just enough out of the way to not get hurt. He activates the runes on the blade, and he strikes. The Baron releases an inhuman scream, and spins to try and flee, but Echo strikes two more times.
And the creature falls still.
Nothing happens for a long moment. And then the shadows that cover the creature disperse in every direction, washing over all of the people, then across everything in the Duchy, and then the shadows vanish as if they never existed to begin with.
You look at the massive clock on the wall and you watch as the calendar and time speed up to match the current day and year, and then you hurry down the stairs, “Echo!”
He pulls his helmet off and grunts as you crash into his side, “I’m okay, he didn’t even touch me.” His arm slides around your shoulder as you hug him tightly.
“No!” You both turn at the wail coming from the young man kneeling on the ground, “No! How could you? I was strong! I had power!” The Baron, a teenager again, gets to his feet, his teeth bared. “I’ll kill you!”
Echo lightly pushes you behind him as the teenager lunges at him. He draws his fist back, and then slams his fist into the boys face, sending him reeling back to the ground, “On the authority given to me by the Royal Family of Mandalore, you’re under arrest.”
“I was cursed!” The boy spat, “You can’t arrest me for being cursed!”
“No, but I can arrest you for the repeated murders of your employees. Just because it didn’t stick doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.” Echo says flatly, and then he presses the tip of his blade against the teenager’s throat, “Unless you think that none of them will testify against you.”
The boy hesitates and then looks away.
“That’s what I thought.” Echo effortlessly cuffs him, and then tosses him against a wall.
“So…what happens next?” Chaz asks.
“I have to make a phone call to Mandalore, we’ll get people out here to help you all get resettled. Thirty years is a long time, my friend.” Echo says as he clasps Chaz’s shoulder, “Although, unless anyone wants to stay here, we’ll probably reach out to different nations to help you get settled somewhere else.” He smiles at the group of people, “A new start…for all of you.”
He steps away from Chaz as the older man begins giving orders for information to get passed onto the village proper, and he leaves the manor. You chase after him, “So, what happens with me, then?”
“A new start,” Echo says, stopping as you hurry to his side, “Doing whatever you want, wherever you want.”
“What if I want to stay near you?” You ask.
He pauses and looks at you, “Well, I might be able to help with that.” Echo says with a slow smile. “If that’s what you really want.”
You hum thoughtfully, “You brought the rain back, Echo. And you fought for our freedom. There’s nothing I want more than to stay with you.”
He laughs softly, “Come here, sen’ika.”
You step closer to him and he lightly hooks an arm around your waist, pulling you even closer, and then he lightly bumps his forehead against yours.
“I have an idea,” Echo says lazily, “How about, once I make this call, we go down to the village and buy sandwiches from the cafe, and we have a picnic while we wait for help to arrive?”
You rest your hands on his chest plate, “Like a date?” You ask softly.
“Exactly like a date,” He confirms.
You smile at him brightly, and you raise up on your toes to brush your lips against his, “I like that idea.”
He smiles against your lips, “Glad to hear it, cyar’ika. Now, I really do need to make this call, but you don’t have to move if you don’t want to. Actually, they’re probably going to have some questions for you, so it’s best that you don’t move-”
You grin and lay your cheek against his shoulder, it’s not a happily ever after, not yet at least, but it’s a start and that’s all you can ask for.

On Writing: Upcycling
I don’t know if this holds for every writer. But for me and no few I’ve traded emails with, our brains and accumulated libraries of books/notes/articles/stray neat things off Tumblr is a vast collection of “it could come in handy someday.”
This holds for less-than-great movies and TV shows, too. See something you think is kind of meh, but there’s a character, setting, or worldbuilding aspect you like? Write it down. Toss the note into your collection of ideas. Maybe let it marinate a bit. Then take it out, check that you can file the serial numbers off and make that bit original, and see if it slots in as a neat piece of an Idea.
Note, a piece; not the whole thing. If you want to rewrite The Acolyte so that Jedi Master Sol gets out alive and with his morals intact, instead of that... confused mess of characterization shift between the first eps and the last that reviews say happened-
If you want to, go to; but that will be fanfic. (Nothing wrong with good fanfic!)
If, however, you like the idea of a Korean space wizard traveling the galaxy and getting mixed up in a murder investigation... that could very well be original, and vastly entertaining. A wuxia wizard and a cop; together, They Fight Crime!
Ahem.
(Am I a smidge grumpy that this was the premise the Acolyte advertised, and then neglected completely? Yes, yes I am. I also predicted that takeoff of The Fugitive scene minutes before Roommate showed me the relevant review clip. I predicted, in fact, no less than three bad Plot Twists in the review that way. I may have made my roommate a tad nervous. So yes. A smidge. Or more.)
Picking up snips of ideas can be particularly helpful if, like me, your ability to visualize people is... ahem, not your strong point. Seriously, change your hat and I probably won’t recognize you the next time we meet. Faces don’t stick in my head. So giving a character a physical appearance can be daunting. I mean, they have... two arms and a head? Hair? Human-ish shape?
But as the internet saying goes, if you can’t make it yourself, sometimes store-bought is just fine. So I look at actors. Anime characters. Comic books and manga. “Does X look like the kind of person in my head?” And then, yes, alter some details. You don’t want a copy. Just a general model. And since writing is a verbal media instead of visual, that should work out fine. Your readers are going to picture their own versions of your character anyway, even if you do get lucky with your cover.
Also note, watching people in motion can really help with action scenes. I’ll take all the help with those I can get!
So never let anybody diss the, ahem, less than perfect stuff you watch or read. If you like it, there’s something good in it. Make a note.
It could come in handy someday....
Unrelated side note. If you used to love lemon meringue pie but turned up allergic to eggs, search for this recipe: Sweet & Tart Egg Free Lemon Bars, by Safely Delish. (It’s been a few years since I got the printout, so searching for the link is probably best.) This recipe is not only egg-free, it works with GF flour! Though the crust is a tad crumbly. Sometime I’m going to do some experimenting to see if I can fix that....

Love Letters
Gryffindor! Seo Changbin x Ravenclaw! reader
Genre(s): Harry Potter/hogwarts au!, ABSOLUTE FLUFF, one scene of angst but that’s it, acquaintances(?) to lovers (Reader has a crush on Changbin but they aren’t quite friends???), feat. the rest of skz (mainly Felix, Jisung, Bangchan, and Jeongin though...)
Warnings: swearing, mentions of self-doubt, but that’s about it :)
W.C: 12.9k
Summary: Seo Changbin was used to his friends having to turn down confessions left and right, seeing as their little friend group as one of the most popular in the school. He convinced himself he didn’t care if nobody ever had interest in him, as it seemed liked such a hassle. That is, until he receives finds a box of chocolates and a love note from his “secret admirer”
A/N: I originally had this idea for Chan, but I feel like Changbin doesn’t get enough love these days and I am such a big simp for Binnie, so here we are. I also love different AUs, and Hogwarts is by far one of my favourites. And with the recent controversy of the stupid game coming out, this is a better way to indulge in the HP universe without supporting Transphobia and Antisemitism, so I hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Everybody, look how cute he is
“Oh no, she’s crying...” Jeongin sighed, a look of sympathy washing over his features as the boys watched Hyunjin reject yet another confession.
They were sat at their usual table in the library, when a sweet hufflepuff girl came up to the group and asked to speak with Hyunjin privately, a normal occurrence for the Slytherin boy, as many girls and guys alike fell for his pretty visuals.
“Its always the worst when they end up crying...” Felix frowned, “It makes me feel so bad for them.”
“Oh yeah, for sure.” Chan hums in agreement, looking down at the table, “Like you know its for the best and you turn them down gently, but still...”
Hyunjin then gave an apologetic bow to the girl and made his way back over to the table. He sat, letting out a deep sigh and brushing his hand through his hair.
“Well?” Jisung said, leaning his chin on his fist, “What happened?”
“She told me how she grew feelings for me recently and how she couldn’t stop thinking about me, which is sweet. She even wrote me a poem...” Hyunjin explained, taking out a folded pink piece of paper from his pocket. However, he didn’t open it, instead he placed it the middle of his potion book and closed it, “I let her down as gently as possible, and she said she understood, but I could see her holding back tears.”
“oh man...” Seungmin winced, scratching the back of his head, “So she was really into you, huh... That’s almost worse.”
“I do not envy you guys.” Changbin scoffed, shaking his head before focusing back on the potions assignment they had due tomorrow, “Being a heart-breaker would be too stressful for me.”
And for the most part, Changbin meant it; the uncomfortable and guilty feelings his friends felt whenever someone would confess their feelings to them and the awkward apologizing for not loving someone back was something Changbin couldn’t imagine himself doing.
But deep down, he wished that maybe someone would someday confess to him; how embarrassing that out of his whole friend group, he’s the only one who has never been asked out before! Sure, he’s dated, but he always made the first move, always was the one pining after someone else. Maybe once, he’d like to be sought after too?
“It’s okay, she’ll get over it eventually.” Chan said, writing on his own assignment, “I’ll talk to her later tonight in the common room about it.”
“I doubt she wants to talk to you, Channie.” Minho said and rolled his eyes, “I know you’re head of Hufflepuff and you’re supposed to look out for your housemates, but she’ll probably still be a bit sensitive about it.”
“fair point, I’ll just let her be then.” Chan hummed, the boys finally getting back to work on their assignment, since the looming deadline was more important than talk of a rejection.
--------
You sat reading a book in the ravenclaw common room, snuggled up in the corner of the love seat with a cup of tea when the rowdiness of boys stumbled in. You glanced up to see Felix, Chan, Jisung and Changbin enter, seemingly laughing at the conversation the must had been having on the way here. When Jisung caught your gaze, he smiled.
“Oh hey (Y/N)! Sorry if we are bothering you!” He apologized and plopped down on the couch across from the fireplace. The other boys followed suit and sat down next to Jisung, “We’re just gonna hang out here for a bit if that’s okay?”
Jisung was a very good head of house; sure his thought process was pretty odd, but he always was taking in new information and trying to take good care of the rest of his house.
You nodded, before glancing at Felix, who smiled sweetly and waved to you; you shyly waved back focusing back on your book.
Out of the two Australian Hufflepuffs, you were more acquainted with Felix; He spent a lot of time in the great hall, handing out the baked good he made on the weekends. He also sat next to you in charms, to which he was very friendly and kind. He made sure to always say hello whenever he saw you, which you appreciated.
“So as I was saying,” Jisung huffed, before continuing whatever the boys were talking about previously. You didn’t listen much, opting to continue reading and minding your own business; however, that became increasing difficult when Changbin started speaking.
You caught yourself stealing glances at the dark haired Gryffindor from over the top of you book, feeling giddiness bubble up inside whenever he would smile or push his bangs out of his eyes.
You knew it was silly; you barely even spoken to Changbin, besides a simple greeting, yet his presence made you feel anxious. He was handsome and kind, very smart and passionate about the things he cared about. You’ll never forget the day you had heard him talking with Chan over quidditch, the conviction and intensity he had in his voice quite frankly made you feel nothing short of inspired.
So you may have grown a crush on Changbin. A secret one that nobody would ever get to know about. You would listen at look from afar, but it was just too much for you to ever even dream of actually being with him. Besides, he knows plenty of students; he probably doesn’t even really know who you are, so your chances were at zero.
But still, you though about him, what it would be like to go on a date with him. What it would be like to have him talk about you with the same passion and spirit. To be able to kiss him...
You felt your cheeks heat up at the thought, lifting your book so it covered your flushed face. Suddenly the boy’s conversation switched to something more serious, and you felt your ears perk up as you listened.
“So what about that girl and Hyunjin today?” Felix said before shaking his head pitifully at the rug, “It’s really unfortunate cause I know that exact feeling.”
“The feeling of the girl being rejected or Hyunjin having to reject her?” Jisung said, earning a shove from Chan. Did a girl confess to Hyunjin today? You suddenly felt bad, even though you weren’t there or knew who it was.
“Hyunjin of course,” Chan said and rolled his eyes, “We’ve all been there when we had someone confess to us...”
“Well, all except Binnie here!” Jisung teased, nudging Changbin, who rolled his eyes. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion. Had Changbin never been asked out? That’s impossible! Everyone knew that the group of eight boy were basically the school’s crushes; He would have had to have dated dozens of-
“Make fun of me all you want,” Changbin folded his arms across his chest and leaned back into the couch, “I may have never been asked out, but I also don’t have to deal with that awkward, sticky situation of telling them you don’t like them back.”
No way Changbin really had never been asked out?! You could have sworn there had to be at least one person who has asked him out.
The more you though about it, the more you realized that you couldn’t think of a single person who you knew had. You couldn’t even think of someone who had a genuine crush on him, and not just praised him for his visuals (well, besides you of course...)
“It doesn’t make you sad, does it?” Felix asked, voice full of concern. Changbin sat quietly for a moment before pursing his lips and shifting in his seat. You caught yourself not even holding your book open anymore, hands folded in your lap waiting to hear his answer.
“I mean, it would be really nice to be sought after, sure.” Changbin mumbled before shaking his head and scoffing, “But there is stress that comes with it too, so I’m okay for now.”
“It’s really not all that its cracked up to be, so you’re not missing out much.” Chan said and patted him on the back. They were silent for a moment, before Chan stood and stretched his arms over his head with a yawn, “Anyways, I should get going to bed, I have a test tomorrow morning.”
“Yeah us too,” Felix nodded, standing from his spot and grasping Changbin’s hand to help him up, “See you boys tomorrow!” As Felix, Chan and Changbin turned to leave, you met their gaze, causing you to embarrassingly wave goodbye to them, praying they don’t bring up you’re eavesdropping. Lucky for you, them smiled and waved back, before leaving your common room to just you and Jisung.
“I’m gonna go to bed too,” Jisung said out loud, turning to you, “Are you gonna stay out here or can I put out the fire?”
“Oh yeah, I better get to bed too,” You said meekly and stood up, book in hand as you went to the staircase.
“Good night (Y/N).” Jisung hummed, to which you quietly sputtered out a ‘good night’ in response and darted up the stairs.
You ran to your room, closing the door behind you, mind still on Changbin and the shock of him not being asked out or confessed to.
It made your nerves all jittery as you laid down on your bed, staring at the ceiling; suddenly, a thought popped into your head that made you smile.
Yes, it was perfect.
---------------
“What do you have in your hand?” Jeongin asked, pointing at the small red box Changbin was carrying as he arrived at their usual table in the library. His cheeks were flushed almost as red as the box and his smile was so big his cheeks puffed out.
It had been a couple of days since the Hyunjin rejection, and everything was how it normally was. That is until Changbin was returning to his dorm after a class and almost tripped over something in front of his door; he couldn’t believe it! was it really...?
“Oh nothing, just a gift from...” Changbin began coyly, suddenly slamming a note down on the table with a happy laugh, “My secret admirer!”
The table was in shock, some of the boys cheering, while other were quick to try and grasp for the note; Until the sharp shushing of a nearby professor, that is. The boys relaxed a bit, shifting in their seats as Changbin sat down setting the gift down on the table.
“What’s in the box?” Minho asked, reaching for the box and opening it to reveal six homemade-looking chocolates, decorated with caramel hearts and various coloured sprinkles.
“Dibs!” Jisung cheered before reaching out to grab one, only for his hand to be swatted away by Changbin. He covered the chocolates, closing the box back up and pulling it closer to him.
“You guys don’t get them, they’re for me!” Changbin pouted, clutching the box to his chest, “The note doesn’t say ‘to Changbin and all of his friends’, now does it?”
“What does the note say?” Seungmin asked, nodding to the folded white note in Changbin’s hand. The Gryffindor, unfolded the letter, reading the contents out loud:
Dearest Changbin,
Hello.
I watch you from afar every day and I know how much you like the chocolate from Honeydukes. But to make my gift as special as you are, I melted it into something new and decorated it myself. I hope you like them as much as I like you <3
Your Secret Admirer
Changbin’s face flushed re-reading the message, feeling his heart flutter. It wasn’t everyday someone gave him a gift, especially not of something he really liked.
“Who gave this to you?” Hyunjin asked, grinning at the excitement and giddiness in Changbin’s features.
“I don’t know,” Changbin hummed, smile still on his face as he looked over the note once more, “I found it outside my door after Care For Magical Creatures.”
“Good for you, Bin!” Chan said with a smile, ruffling Changbin’s hair like a proud parent before looking over at the note, “I really wonder who it is, though...”
“That’s not important right now,” Felix said, crossing his arms on the table and laying his chin down onto them, “What’s important is how happy they made you feel dude.”
The boys then started to tease Changbin, pinching at his cheeks and shoving his shoulders with chuckles and a string of ‘ooo’s.
You steal a glance from a few tables away, feeling the heat creep up your face at their reactions. You didn’t think Changbin would show his friends your letter, so it was a bit embarrassing; but you didn’t really mind that much, as they didn’t seem like the type to make fun of you for it.
Besides, it was worth all the hot, long hours you spent trying to heat and cool that damn chocolate to see the look on Changbin’s face. It was cute to see how excited he was, ears red and pretty smile seemingly stuck to his face. You decided you wanted to see it again and again and again. You decided he should smile like that everyday, so you began to brainstorm your next idea to make him smile like that again.
----------
“Ow! son of a bitch...” You cried out, sucking the blood that was pooling at the tip of your finger from the prickly thorns of the rose you were preparing. The bundle of soft lavender roses was almost complete, but the thorns were proving to be a pain in the ass.
You instinctively tapped your finger a few times on the pad of your thumb before going back to work. You felt nervous, as you were out in the greenhouses where anyone could just waltz in and catch you; you wanted to finish quickly. Not to mention Changbin would be finishing quidditch practice soon, and you wanted to deliver this gift before he was done.
“Okay that’s good...” You mumbled to yourself before pulling out a red ribbon and tying it around the stems creating a lovely bouquet. You then read over the note once more and slipped in in the ribbon as well. Looking at your handiwork one last time before deciding it was good enough, you stood and approached the quidditch field. You awkwardly tried to hide the purple bouquet in the folds of your robe, even though there wasn’t anyone out to see you; but better safe than sorry.
The weather today was bit chillier than expected, the autumn season coming to a close. It would soon be winter, which was good in its own respect; sure, autumn was beautiful, with the colourful leaves popping against the dull grass and skies, but winter meant powdery snow, warm drinks by the fireplace and cuddling up with someone on the coldest mornings.
that last one you definitely thought about from time to time...
You could hear shouts and the swishing of brooms as you finally got to the quidditch field. You hid by the entrance, peaking your head around the corner just in time to see Changbin neatly block the quaffle from going in, catching it effortlessly before nonchalantly tossing it to another Gryffindor player.
He look so handsome, drenched in sweat, cocky grin adorning his face as he floated like an angel in the sky. You could stay there for hours watching him play, but you had a job to do.
You moved farther from the field, finding the quidditch pitch and entering quickly; You were lucky that there wasn’t anyone changing at that moment, cause you couldn’t even think to check before entering. You looked around, trying to located Changbin’s stuff quickly before getting caught snooping around.
luckily it wasn’t too hard, as you recognized the sneakers he wore everyday in front of a bulky duffle-bag. You gently placed your bundle of flowers on top of the bag, finishing with a few adjustments to make sure it was set up perfectly. And just as quickly as you entered, you scampered away not slowing down until you were a good hundred feet away from the field.
You took a deep breath, feeling all your nerves on edge as you quickly pulled out the same book you’ve been reading recently and flipped to the page you were on. You planned to be sitting in the grass on the way to school, that way you would be able to see the smile on Changbin’s face that you adored so much.
You tried to steady your breathing, wanting to appear as relaxed and natural, but inside you were screaming. You felt nervous, but also excited.
Around ten minutes had passed, when suddenly you felt someone lean down beside you and sit with you in the grass. Startled, you look at the figure beside to you reveal Felix, beaming a smile almost as bright as the sun.
“Hey (Y/N)! What’s up?” Felix greeted. You made note of the place in your book before closing it and facing Felix.
“Nothing much, just reading.” You answered, trying you best to sound casual and calm. But inside, you were freaking out. Why was Felix with you? And what about Changbin!? What if he comes while Felix is with you? It ruined your whole plan!
“Cool, I’m waiting for Changbin and Jeongin.” Felix explained, glancing down his watch before looking back at you, “They should be done practice soon.” You hummed, turning to look in the direction of the field.
“Mind if I chill with you while I wait?” Felix asked, to which you nodded and you sat quietly, while Felix began to talk about the Charms class the two of you shared.
You really tried to pay attention to what Felix was talking about, but your mind was glued on Changbin and the roses. Would he like them? Was the note you wrote too forward? Would he show the boys he played quidditch with or not?
You were snapped out of your daze by the sound of fast footsteps and a shout of excitement that sounded a bit too familiar. You looked at Felix, who shrugged at you, before looking in the direction of the footsteps to see Changbin running up the hill with a tired looking Jeongin trying to catch up.
“Felix? Felix!” Changbin cheered, waving the roses in his hand, beaming with joy, “I got another one!” You felt your nerves be replaced with butterflies, feeling a bit relieved that Changbin seemed to like the gift.
“Another what?!” Felix hopped up, approaching his friend who ran straight into him, knocking the two of them to the ground and almost crushing you in the process.
They both let out a fit of giggles before Changbin sat up, and showed off the roses you spent almost an hour cutting and pruning for him. His hair was still sweaty and tousled, and he had dry dead grass on his shirt from the fall, but you couldn’t help but think it was the most beautiful he had ever looked.
“My secret admirer! They gave new a new gift and a new note!” Changbin squealed, laying back in the grass and clutching the bouquet and note to his chest. Jeongin finally arrived, huffing and puffing before sitting in the grass beside Changbin, lightly kicking the older boy’s shoulder.
“Was it really necessary to run?” He pouted, clutching his stomach like he was gonna puke.
“What does this note say?” Felix asked, reaching for the note, only for Changbin to jerk his arm away so Felix couldn’t grab it.
“None of your business!” Changbin barked, before letting out a breathless chuckle. Felix frowned, crawling on top of the Gryffindor boy to wrestle for the note, to which Changbin easily gave up, opting to gently brush his fingers against the lavender roses.
Felix began to open the note, before glancing at you and closing it up again with a pout. You blinked a couple times at Felix before realizing he didn’t want you to see the note (as if you didn’t write it; but to be fair he didn’t know that). You quickly avert your gaze down to the grass as Felix read the note silently. Jeongin was quick to move over to Felix and read it as well over his shoulder; it was fine, you already knew what it said:
Dearest Changbin,
It’s me again. I hope you enjoyed the chocolates! These aren’t nearly as tasty as my last gift, but they are much more pretty.
Flowers are used to convey feelings and meanings. Do you know what lavender roses mean? They represent love at first sight or enchantment. And you have definitely enchanted me! Every time I see you, I feel like I fall in love all over again.
I hope you enjoy these flowers, they are almost as beautiful as you! (you could use something that smells nice after practice anyways <;3)
Your Secret Admirer
“How cute!” Felix gushed, grinning at Changbin who was still playing with the flowers like some sort of lovesick puppy. Your face flushed at Felix’s comment, feeling a bit embarrassed, but also relieved he reacted positively.
“This one is a bit more forward than the last one, huh?” Jeongin suggested, smirk on his face as he folded up the note and handed it back to Changbin. He opened it again, rereading it and smile growing with ever passing second.
You wanted to explode when you saw his reaction; his ear flushed and his nose crinkled cutely as Changbin let out a silly giggle.
“Oh, (Y/N), just so you know what’s up, Changbin has a secret admirer.” Felix explained and you tried your best to try and act like this was news to you.
“You seem pretty happy about it..?” You timidly asked, shyly looking at Changbin. He shifted so his elbows rested under him, holding his head and shoulders up. You secretly were just trying to find out if he really like it or he was feeling pressured, as you remember him mentioning that.
“Its nice...” He mumbled, little grin on his face before he sighed and looked over the note again, “I just wish I knew who it was...”
“(Y/N), you wouldn’t happen to have a clue to who Changbin’s secret admirer is? Maybe one of the ravenclaw kids?” Felix asked, causing the three boys to look at you; Changbin blinked expectantly at you, making you look away and shaking your head no.
“I’m sorry, I haven’t heard anyone mention anything.” You answered, which was technically the truth. After all, you haven’t talked to anyone about being his secret admirer.
Changbin sighed, laying back in the grass before pulling gently at the petals on one of the roses, rubbing in between his fingers. He smiled to himself before sitting up.
“I guess it doesn’t matter, I’ll just have to figure it out myself.” He hummed, a newfound determination in his voice., “With whatever little clues I get, I will find out who it is!”
“You sound serious.” Felix chuckled, “I guess we’ll have to try and help you figure it out too.”
You felt nervous about that; sure, you thought you were pretty inconspicuous about revealing details of who you are (basically none), but the idea that all eight boys would be trying to find out the identity of the secret admirer made you anxious.
Changbin hummed in agreement before finally sitting up and brushing the stray bits of grass out of his hair. You secretly wished it could have been you who brushed your hands through his hair...
“Well, we should probably get going. I have to shower before dinner.” Changbin said, gently setting the bouquet down in the grass before smoothing out his dress shirt.
You watched, hands folded over the book in your lap and Changbin helped Felix stand up, while Jeongin followed suit. Changbin picked up the bouquet again, clutching it fondly to his chest with a bright grin. He then turned his attention to you, catching you off guard.
“See you around, (Y/N).” He hummed and you swore you felt your heart stop. This might have been the first time he mentioned you by name and honestly, it surprised you that he even knew it.
“Y-yeah! for sure...” You stammered, waving at Changbin as the boys left, leaving you alone in the grass.
----------
“Wow! The first snow of the season!” Jisung gushed, pressing his cheek up against the cool window to get a look outside, “It so pretty out!”
Chan, Jisung, Felix and Changbin were once again in the ravenclaw common room, just relaxing and spending some time together after a long week of school.
With the winter coming closer and quidditch season ending, they spent a lot more time in the common room that usual, which you definitely didn’t mind; You just “happened” to be there most nights too, reading up on your book or studying for upcoming tests, but above all else, wanting to be around Changbin.
It had been a few weeks since your last gift to him, since you wanted the next one to be something special. You spent a lot of time thinking about what exactly you wanted to give him; most things you thought of didn’t seem special or good enough to give someone as special as Changbin.
“You can see the big puffy flakes falling down!” Felix exclaimed, smile bright as he squished beside Jisung to see out the window. You watched the boys with a small grin, stirring the tea you had and trying not to giggle at how cute they looked.
“Come look Bin, you always love the first snow.” Chan said, waving over Changbin who sat on the floor at the coffee table by the sofas, seemingly focused on something else.
“Yeah in a minute,” He hummed, playing with a white piece of paper. You watched him unfold it and fold it again and again, flipping it over, rubbing it between his fingers, deeply analyzing it. He was sitting cross-legged, dark shaggy hair messily covering his forehead and his eyebrows furrowed in concentration. He looked handsome when he focused so much, but what was he looking at?
“Binnie, why are you still looking at that note?” Jisung sighed, coming back over Changbin and sitting beside him.
Note? He was looking at your note..?
“Because,” Chagnbin sighed, setting it back down on the table brushing his hands through his hair before leaning back, “I haven’t gotten another note for weeks now...”
It hurt you to see him look so defeated, and you promised yourself you would never let him go this long without a note again. You felt guilty, but you just wanted to give him the best gift you could, so maybe it was worth it..?
“Awe, don’t worry dude!” Felix comforted, sitting down on the other side of him and wrapping his arm around him, “I’m sure they just have something cooler prepared that takes more time.”
“what if they don’t like me anymore..?” Changbin sighed weakly, biting his bottom lip and picking up the note again, holding it gently.
You wanted to scream at him that it wasn’t true, and that he was silly for even thinking that, but you held back. You had to give him a new note and a gift now, so you needed to keep this charade up for a bit longer. You took a sip from your tea and flipped a page in your book, trying to not look like you were listening except you were fuming inside.
“Nonsense!” Chan huffed, coming to sit across from them, “Listen, I don’t know why it’s been so long since you got a note, but I’m sure your secret admirer has their reasons. Maybe they are scared you don’t like the notes and gifts. Maybe they have something big prepared like Felix said. Maybe they did give you something but it got lost or taken. My point is, the least likely scenario is them not liking you.”
“I mean, maybe....” Changbin said flatly, looking at the note in his lap sadly. The sight broke your heart and you suddenly felt like such an idiot. Changbin shook his head and set the note back on the table, “I don’t know. I just... I hope you guys are right.”
“Of course we are right,” Jisung said simply, patting Changbin on the shoulder reassuringly, “What reason would this person have to suddenly not like you? none! And there is so much to like about you, right guys?!”
Chan and Felix nod in agreement, trying desperately to cheer the dark haired gryffindor up. He let out a weak smile at his friend’s efforts, but looked back down at his lap sadly.
“Thanks guys...” He said softly, folding his hands in his lap and playing with them, seemingly defeated.
That sad look was the last straw for you; feeling like you wanted to cry at the sight, you got up quietly and left the common room, determined to get a gift for Changbin now.
Luckily for you, you had the perfect idea after hearing the boys talking earlier.
It was freezing out, the crunch of fresh fallen snow under your shoes as you walked outside. As much as you hated being out here without a coat, you were fueled by the need to make Changbin smile.
Using a spell you had learned a few years ago, you were able to gather up the freshly fallen snow from the sky, catching it in a crystal ball to make a snow globe of sorts. You would have loved to make an ornate stand for it, but it was almost curfew and you needed to get this to Changbin by tonight. The ball by itself would have to do; besides, maybe Changbin would like it more this way. Being able to roll it around to see the first snow of the year whenever seemed like something he would prefer to just shaking it like a normal snow globe.
Coming back inside and dusting yourself off, you try to neatly and hastily write out a note for him, trying to convey your feelings with every quill stroke. You re-read it, making sure it was perfect before folding it up and carrying your stuff back towards the common room. The only problem now, was there was no wrapping or box you had with you to put it in. And how would you be able to give it to him without him knowing it was from you?
Maybe you couldn’t give it to him tonight. If they just weren’t in the common room, you could sneak up to your room to be able to wrap the orb quickly, but going through the common room with them there was impossible to not be seen. Would tomorrow be better? But the idea of Changbin going to bed disheartened and sad made you feel heartbroken. There was no way you could wait to give it to him but-
“Hey (Y/N) what is that?” Jisung asked, standing out in the hallway right outside of your common room, with Changbin. The two of them had an armful of baked goods from the kitchen.
You freeze in place, feeling like you’ll be sick. You had both of them staring at you for a moment, looking down at the open globe in your hand and the note and you were speechless.
You were done for.
“It’s.. uhmmm...” You mumble, but Changbin is quick to notice the white note in your hand and snatches it from you in a moment.
“It’s from my secret admirer!” Changbin squealed, face lighting up as he unfolds the note and reads it. As he reads through the note, his face grows brighter and brighter and you can’t help but smile back at him, even though your knew you were fucked.
“What does it say?!” Jisung screamed, trying to read it too. He quickly grabbed it from Changbin and began reading it out loud.
Dearest Changbin,
Let me apologize for the long wait for this gift. I was trying to find something special and meaningful to give you to be able to show my love for you, so it took longer than expected. I promise to show you my love more thoroughly from now on.
I have gathered the first snow of the season for you, wanting you to always have a precious and magical moment on hand whenever you need it. Every moment I spend thinking about you is precious and magical for me.
I hope you enjoy this gift, I know how much you love the first snow of the year <3
Your Secret Admirer.
You felt your face heat up as Jisung read your note out loud, not thinking about how cheesy it sounded until it came out of his mouth.
“(Y/N)! Explain yourself!” Jisung shouted, pointing an accusatory finger at you.
Shit, I guess it’s time to come clean and confess. You felt sick to your stomach at the idea of telling Changbin to his face that it’s been you all along, but here goes-
“Yeah (Y/N)! Where did you find this? Did my secret admirer give it to you to give to me?!” Changbin said, face serious, yet he was absolutely dead wrong about the situation. But you felt a weight lift off your shoulders as you would be able to sway them away from suspicion of you.
“No, I found it out here sitting by the wall.” You said as nonchalantly as possible, giving Changbin the snow globe. He quirked his brow at the clear crystal ball, before giving it a shake and seeing the snow inside appear and whirl to life. His face softened and he smiled fondly at the small ball.
“I didn’t see who left it, but I didn’t want it to break or be kicked, so I was coming to bring it to you.” You said, gazing at Changbin’s gleeful state and stifling a smile. At least the plan was a success, even if this isn’t what you had in mind.
“See? We told you they were waiting to give you something special buddy!” Jisung said, shaking Changbin’s shoulder before wrapping his arm around his friends and looking back to you, “Thank you (Y/N) for the delivery!”
“Yeah, thank you (Y/N).” Changbin hummed softly, his smile warm enough to melt away the cold you experienced going outside without a jacket. You felt your face heat up as you looked into Changbin’s eyes. He broke eye contact first, looking back down at the ball fondly.
“Of course.” You whispered, feeling like every cell in your body would burst at this moment from a whole conglomerate of feelings.
“Alright lover-boy, lets get these snacks back to the boys.” Jisung said and pulled on Changbin’s arm. They boys departed towards the common room before Jisung called back to you.
“Aren’t you coming too, (Y/N)?”
“Right! Yes, of course.” You confirmed and scurried to catch up to the boys, releasing the deep breath you didn’t know you were holding.
How you avoided being found out was a mystery. Blame it on the brainlessness of boys....
---------
“(Y/N), do you have the notes from Friday?” Felix asked, tugging at the arm of your robe, “Chan spilled water in my bag by accident and ruined mine, so if I could just borrow them to make a copy, I’d really appreciate it.”
It was a week later, and you had been racking your brain for what your next gift to Changbin would be. You weren’t exactly sure how much longer you should stay secret, but the thought of actually confessing made you feel sick.
But for now, you had more important things to focus on, like school; more specifically the class you were currently in.
“Yeah, totally!” You answered Felix, digging through your bag for your notes and handing them to him, “Sorry, my hand-writing is a bit messy...” He dismissed you, flipping through the pages before frowning.
You stiffened when you realized a moment too late what you had just done.
“Your handwriting looks... familiar.” Felix said chewing his bottom lip until it clicked where he recognized it from. Felix gasped before tugging at your arm once again, “This looks like the love letters Changbin’s been receiving! Are you-”
You quickly hushed the boy, feeling your face heat up. Fuck.
Felix calmed down a bit before whispering “Are you Changbin’s secret admirer?”
Felix looked at you expectantly. It would be fruitless to lie to him at this point; you could tell he wouldn't believe you even if you tried.
“You can’t tell anyone, especially not him.” You whispered back feverishly, feeling sick to your stomach. How silly of you! Of course Felix would recognize your handwriting, it was obvious. And with how excited he always seemed about the situation, of course he would have looked at the handwriting on the notes a lot.
You felt like you were going to pass out.
“I promise I wont tell him!” Felix said seriously, before giggling like a school girl, “(Y/N), that’s so cute! How long have you like him? You should have asked me to set you up! Also-”
“Felix, can we talk about this in a place that’s not so public...” You whined, looking around the crowded classroom. You suddenly felt exposed, like everyone was looking at you and like everyone knew, because it wasn’t just your little secret now.
“Of course, of course.” Felix said and turned back to his work, but only for a moment to scribble out a note and pass it to you, without lifting his eyes from his assignment.
He talks about the notes all the time, you know. You make him really happy :)
The corners of your lips quirked up, before you mumbled out a shy ‘good’ and focusing on your work again. You were stressed about someone finding out, but at least it was Felix out of all people. You knew he wouldn’t tell, no matter how excited he got because Felix wasn’t the type to break a promise.
But still, you couldn’t shake the feeling of dread in your chest.
Class seemed to drag on, but the moment it ended you quickly packed up and tried your best to leave the classroom without having to talk to Felix about your little crush. It was bad enough that Felix found out, but you didn’t want to get into details with him about your feelings. So you fled, trying to get away as fast as possible.
However, you weren’t so lucky, having Felix corner you in the hallway and drag you off to the entrance hall for some privacy. Great...
“Okay you have to tell me everything!” Felix gushed, not letting go of your arm. You frown and chew your lip nervously, feeling incredibly embarrassed about the whole situation. You stood silently, looking at the floor as if you were guilty and in trouble for something.
“It’s okay (Y/N)...” Felix said softly, coaxing you to look up at him. He grinned at you encouragingly, “I won’t tell anyone, I just want to know.” You took a deep breath before letting out a heavy sigh. He wouldn’t leave you alone until you told him about your feelings for Changbin, so you might as well get it over with.
“I don’t know when I started liking him. Since I first saw him I think.” You began, feeling the heat rush to your face. You weren’t able to look at Felix, so you just stared at the floor, fiddling with the edge of your tie.
“I overheard you guys talking about how he never got asked out one night in the common room and I wanted to change that, but asking him out seemed too scary... So I decided to be his secret admirer instead.” You finished simply, rubbing the nape of your neck. Felix stood silently for a moment, lips pursed as he thought. He let go of you, folding his arms over his chest.
“Its the muscles right?” He finally said, smirking at your embarrassed state, “You find his muscles attractive and that’s why you like him, right? I can’t say I blame you though, They are quite a sight...”
“What? No! That’s not the reason!” You stammered out a bit too loudly, eyes shooting up to see Felix’s smug expression. God you wanted to punch him right now.
“I mean, he is handsome and his muscles are cool and all....” You admitted, smiling to yourself as you thought about Changbin, “But I like how passionate he is. And how he’s kind and loyal. And how he’s a good friend above all else.”
“Awe, you’re smiling so hard!” Felix teased you, cooing at how flustered you were getting. He poked your cheek with his finger, smiling when you swatted his hand away, “You must be imagining him right now.” “Stop teasing me!” You groaned, pushing him away from you and covering your face with your hands. This was going to be unbearable now that Felix knew.
“Okay, I’m sorry.” Felix apologized, reaching over to rub your shoulder. You glared at him, feeling sick to your stomach still.
“You should tell him it’s you though.” Felix suggested, before perking up as he got an idea, “Ask him to go on a date during winter break!”
“Are you crazy?!” You screeched. You shook your head disapprovingly, moving to go and sit down on the steps of the entrance hall. You placed your head in your hands and let out a tired sigh. Felix slowly sat beside you, placing his arm around you in comfort.
“I want to tell him, but I’m honestly scared to...” You confessed, looking up at Felix, who was listening to you intently. A sense of doom looms over you at the thought of confessing, “I mean, what if....”
“What if..?”
“What if he finds out its me and.... feels disappointed?”
“Why would he be disappointed if it was you?”
“Because, I’m me and he’s him!” You sighed exasperated. You didn’t know when you started crying, but you felt a tear drip onto your lap. You wiped it away with a sniffle, trying to calm down. Feelings you didn’t even know you had started arising and for some reason, talking to Felix made you feel comfortable to confide in him.
You look down at your shoes, bouncing your knee anxiously as you spoke, “He’s Seo Changbin! He’s cool and he’s popular because he’s the sweetest; he’s the guy that is never rude and he never leaves his friends alone. He always puts himself wholeheartedly into everything he does and he never gives up, no matter how unlikely things will work out for him. He’s such a good person!”
Felix listened to you ramble, nodding along and rubbing your back to hopefully sooth you. You hung your head and let out a sigh, like all the life in you was expelled with that one breath.
“And I’m me... I’m the loser who has no friends, who always has their nose in a book because it’s easy to be alone if I pretend it’s by choice. I have a crush on a guy I barely have spoken to and I wasn’t even sure knew of my existence until a few months ago! I keep to myself, always observing as if I’m the background character and he’s the main character.” You wipe your eyes one more time as you finish rambling, feeling the lump in your throat as you tried to calm down a bit more.
“The background character isn’t supposed to be with the main character. That’s not how stories go...” You finalize, clutching the sleeves of your shirt with a crestfallen expression.
You didn’t quite think about why you were so afraid to tell Changbin it was you, but now it all suddenly made sense. You didn’t feel that he would have feelings for a nobody like you when he was someone like him. It just didn’t seem possible for him to have any interest in you, that’s why being a secret admirer worked so well for you.
You could tell him your feelings without him being disappointed it was you who felt that way.
“Good thing this isn’t one of your silly stories then.” Felix said firmly, not looking over at you. He was still rubbing your back, his determined expression a stark contrast from his gentle movements.
“Listen (Y/N), I know it’s scary and I know you don’t feel like you’re enough, but I can assure you, you are.” Felix explained seriously. His expression softened a bit as he flashed you a small smile, “You are smart, and you’re kind. You’re clearly very thoughtful to do all for this for Changbin. He be a fool to not like you.”
“You have me to support you and cheer you on now. I’m telling you, as your friend,” Felix nudged you a bit at the word friend, trying to cheer you up out of your somber mood, “You should tell him it’s you.”
“I don’t know...” You hummed weakly, feeling like there were a thousand doubts and negative thoughts stirred up in your mind. It all seemed like something any good friend would tell someone to comfort them.
“It’s not fair to neither you nor Changbin that you’re choosing to cheat the both of you out of happiness over a ‘what if’.” Felix said simply, patting you back one last time before retracting his hand to lay in his lap.
Upon feeling his hand leave your back, you turned to look at Felix, with him staring directly back at you. His lips were pulled into a thin line, with his eyebrows furrowed in a stern, yet sympathetic expression before he finished, “Don’t let yourself sabotage your happiness like that.”
That seemed to spark a sense of hope in your chest, as you let your brain think on the concept for a moment.
It wasn’t fair of you to take away all possibility of Changbin being confessed to. It always made you happy to make him happy; so if Changbin finding out who his secret admirer was would bring him joy, it made sense you’d do everything in your power to make that come true.
Besides, you knew Changbin was kind, so if he did turn you down, it would be in the most polite way possible, which wouldn’t be so bad...
“I have to tell him.” You deduced after thinking in silence. Felix seemed to perk up at your change in attitude, grinning at your newfound resolve.
“I agree!” Felix said with a nod, “Whatever I can do to help, let me know!”
The cogs were already turning in your head, formulating a plan on how exactly what you were going to do and how you were going to do it.
------------------
Changbin hummed the tune he had stuck in his head all morning as he sat at his desk. Drumming his pencil against the edge of his potions textbook, he tried to focus on the current homework he had, but it was impossible at this point.
Changbin sighed, giving up on focusing and pulling open the drawer on his desk to pull out all the notes you had written him.
These days, all Changbin could think about was his secret admirer. The thought of them ran through his mind 24/7; what you looked like, what you sounded like, what kind of perfume you wore, what your favourite colour was, why you liked him. Who were you?
Re-reading the notes, he felt his face blush. It was refreshing for someone to care about him so much. He felt spoiled and couldn’t stop the grin on his face from creeping up, especially at the lines where you said you loved him.
He had read the notes over at least a thousand times by now. He could recite them by heart, noticed small things in the handwriting itself, like the way you crossed your ts or how you swoop the g more delicately while writing his name.
Changbin groaned, folding the notes back up and stuffing them in his desk drawer carefully. It had been a couple months since he first got one and he was no closer to figuring out who it was. Nobody seemed to act any differently around him since he started receiving the gifts, and he didn’t notice any lingering stares. Not to mention, he’d not been able to recognize the handiwork from either the gifts or the notes.
It all was so incredibly frustrating and disheartening to him. How was he ever going to figure out who it was if they never gave any clues away?
Changbin reached for the crystal ball you had gifted him from the top of his desk and rolled it around in his hands as he thought about if he’d missed any clues. The globe grew cold in his palms, snow whirling to life inside as he passed it between his hands mindlessly.
There was a sudden knock at his door that pulled him from his thoughts. He was about to yell and ask who it was when a piece of yellow parchment quickly slipped underneath the door. Changbin took a moment to realize what it was, before almost falling out of his desk chair.
Letters didn’t usually get sent to him directly (or anonymously) unless it was his secret admirer.
He snatched up the paper from his floor before beaming at the familiar way he was addressed at the top of the letter.
Dearest Changbin,
Hello. I am writing something a bit longer so please forgive no gift this time. However I think you’ll probably enjoy today more than any gift I’ve given you so far.
It must have been hard to try and figure out who I am from just my notes. I have meticulously crafted each one as to not give myself away. Even my gifts have everything to do with you and your preferences, and nothing to do with me! But I think you have suffered enough now. If you would like to, You can meet me today, face to face.
Changbin felt his heart stop at that sentence. He was really going to know the answer to the million dollar question. Changbin shook his head and went back to reading before he got to ahead of himself.
However, instead of telling you my identity outright, I think you’d much rather figure it out yourself with a series of clues. Finishing this little game would be so much more satisfying than just being told the answer, right?
So without further ado, your first clue: (to be fair, its more like instructions...)
You need to go to the library and you will find a book sitting on the table you usually sit at with your friends (The table in the corner by the windows). The book has a dark blue hardcover and golden-edged pages. It is my favourite one; I think I’ve read it over a dozen times and I have my own copy that you can borrow anytime :)
Inside the book is another note which has your next clue!
Good luck! I know you’ll figure it out soon, brilliant Changbin!
<3
Your Not-So-Secret Admirer.
Changbin grinned at the playfulness of his secret admirer. It was hard to convey personality through writing a lot of the times, but they managed pretty well in Changbin’s opinion.
He slipped on his shoes excitedly, lacing them up tight before he folded the letter up and stuffed it in his pocket. He could feel the giddiness bubble up in his chest from the fun nature of this little treasure hunt.
He thought to grab his scarf and jacket too, just in case this little game lead him outside, he didn’t want to freeze before he got the chance to meet you.
He went out to the common room, going to make his way to the library when he was stopped briefly by his friend on the couch.
“Hey Bin, where are you headed?” Jeongin called to his housemate, standing up when Changbin barely spared him a glance.
“My secret admirer left me a treasure hunt,” He hummed happily. Jeongin insisted to come too for help, but Changbin simply waved the boy off, “I’ll tell you everything later!”
“Okay, but don’t stay out too late!” Jeongin called to Changbin as the older Gryffindor rushed out the door.
Changbin could only hear the rush of blood in his ears and the pounding in his chest as he weaved through countless stairs and hallways on his way to the library. He was feeling nervous, although the didn’t really think there was reason to be.
It was clear by now that you liked him a lot, yet he was worried about meeting you face to face. What would he say? What if he didn’t live up to what you expected of him?
Changbin wiped his palms on his trousers to hopefully try and aid the clammy feeling before he pushed open the doors to the library. He made a b-line straight to the table he usually sat at, but was surprised to see Chan and Jisung sitting there working on homework.
“Hey Changbin, you okay? You look like you ran here.” Chan chuckled, setting his quill down on the table.
Changbin barely spared either of them a glance, looking around the table for the book. When he couldn’t see it, he circled around the table, looking at the chairs pulled up against it with a huff.
“Uh... Bin? Hello?” Jisung called out to his friend, “What are you looking for?”
“A book.” Changbin said urgently, finally looking at his two friends when it seemed to be gone, “Its got a blue hardcover and gold pages and was supposed to be at our table.”
“Oh yeah, I think something like that was at the table before we got here.” Chan hummed, looking over at Jisung, “You put it away, right?”
Changbin felt his heart drop; this was not happening right now.
“Yeah, I moved it so we could study.” Jisung nodded, looking back at Changbin, who was mentally freaking out by now.
His one chance to meet you and figure out who you are and his idiot friends had to move the one thing he needed? He felt like he was going to scream.
“Where did you put it!?” Changbin asked anxiously, slamming his hands down on the table and making the other two boys jump in their seats.
“Relax!” Jisung cried, before turning to point at the library cart that sat about twenty feet away, “I placed it on the cart for re-shelving. It should still be there.”
“What is it?” Chan asked, as Changbin scurried off to the cart without answering. He looked through a few of the books on there before he spotted the one he was looking for on the bottom shelf. Changbin huffed out a sigh of relief, grabbing it from the cart and bringing it back to the table.
“Its a clue from my secret admirer.” Changbin answered; he felt exhausted after experiencing so much panic over almost loosing the book. He turned it over in his hands, opening the front cover.
The other two boys watched as he flipped through the pages before landing somewhere in the middle, where a white piece of paper stuck out of it. You also seemed to highlight the words on the page to create a simple message that read “you are my light”. Changbin felt a bit embarrassed about that, but he thought it was a sweet touch nonetheless.
He carefully unfolded the letter and took a deep breath before reading.
My Dearest Changbin,
Congratulations on finding the first clue! I hope it wasn’t difficult for you.
He smiled at the addition of “my dearest” when addressing him; it made Changbin’s heart flutter just a bit to think of being someones’ dearest...
You know what goes good with a book? Cookies and tea! I often like curling up with a good book, a gingersnap cookie and some chamomile tea in the evenings. The only thing that would make that experience better is if we did it together...
Changbin blushed at the thought of someone reading to him in the evenings; his head in your lap as you read him whatever you wanted. He could almost taste the flowery teas and freshly baked cookies and feel the softness of your fingers through his hair as you told him a story....
Focus Changbin! Focus.
Your next clue is in the kitchen! I made you some cookies and tea to enjoy before we meet. I wasn’t sure what you liked best, but luckily I had help with that!
You will meet a friend of mine there; You know him pretty well :)
He will have your next clue.
Good luck, I know you’ll figure it out soon, my brilliant Changbin
p.s. please bring the book with you, its my copy :p
<3
Your (Even Less Of A) Secret Admirer
“Wait, you’re meeting them today?!” Chan exclaimed excitedly, leaning over the table to look at the note. Changbin lets the boys take the note to read it over as he flips casually through your book.
It was filled with annotations and other random notes in the margins. Things that you really liked, ideas the text made you have, even just things you felt or thought about in that moment. Whoever you were, you seemed like a very thoughtful and detailed person, which Changbin could appreciate
Jisung seems to recognize something in the writing, frowning as he finishes reading the note and then looking at the book in Changbin’s hands. It seemed oddly familiar to him....
“What book is that?” Jisung asks, peering cautiously at the cover. Changbin closed to book to look at the cover before shrugging.
“Don’t know, there isn’t a title on it. They probably have a dust jacket that goes over top with the title.” Changbin hummed, showing his ravenclaw friend the book.
“I think I have a guess on who your admirer is, Bin.” Jisung said nodding to himself as he looked back at the note in Chan’s hands. He grinned a bit as all the gears snapped into place.
“Who!?” Chan asked as he shot out of his chair. Changbin looked at Jisung expecting an answer, but he just shook his head playfully and sat back down. Changbin felt like he could explode right then from anticipation and he wanted to strangle Jisung for not spilling his thoughts; But deep down, he was also pretty glad Jisung didn’t say who he was thinking of.
It would have ruined the fun.
“It’s the gingersnaps and chamomile that gave them away. The book looked familiar, but if it’s who I think it is, they always have a cup of chamomile when they read.” Jisung revealed, before pointing down towards the bottom of the note, “But I wonder who this mysterious “friend” is?”
“The only way to know if for me to go find out.” Changbin said hastily, scooping up the note and putting it in his pocket with the letter from before, “Thank you for almost ruining everything and then fixing it again, I’ll see you guys later!”
“See you buddy!” Chan yelled to Changbin as the Gryffindor boy rushed away, onto the next location.
The kitchen was a bit of a walk, so Changbin had some time to speculate.
It annoyed him that Jisung seemed to know before he did, but that must mean the Jisung just knows the person better. Which wasn’t surprising to Changbin, since he was the head of his house and it was his job to know people. Maybe that meant they were a Ravenclaw?
And judging from your scribbly book, that was a good sign that he was right on that.
How many Ravenclaws did Changbin really know? All the members of the quidditch team, Jisung and most of the leaders and/or older Ravenclaws that the younger students depended on, and the few odd students he’d met in his classes. Not really narrowing it down too much...
Whoever you were, Changbin was starting to feel sick at the thought of meeting you. It made him nervous to think about what to finally say when you were standing in front of him.. It was very clear that you liked him a lot, and he wanted to have your first meeting be the best possible interaction. But what then? Would he go out on a date? He’d like to think so, but that could lead to complications...
What if you went and you realized you didn’t like him? The only person who has ever sought after him suddenly deciding they don’t want to be with him anymore made his heart ache.
But what if it went well? Changbin knew he had to do this. He had to know who you were and even if it ended terribly, he at least could look back at this time with fond memories.
That was the mindset Changbin had as he entered the kitchen, trying his best not to ruin anything the staff were working on. Through the window, he could see it started to snow outside, the soft powder floating through the air.
Sat next to the window on a stool, plate of cookies on the counter beside him, was someone Changbin didn’t expect to see.
“Felix? What are you doing here?” Changbin asked, walking up to his friend. He noticed two teacups sitting beside Felix, as the hufflepuff smiled at his friend dearly.
“Waiting for you, silly.” Felix hummed, pulling up a second stool beside him and patting it with his hand, “Come sit.”
“So you’re the mysterious “friend” of my secret admirer...” Changbin said simply, pulling the stool out to sit on it. Felix nodded with a ‘mmhmm’, focusing on pouring some tea into the teacup adjacent to Changbin.
He had so many questions for Felix swirling around in his head as he stared blankly at his friend; Did he always know? Was he pretending he didn’t know whenever he got a note and gift? And if he knew, why did he keep this information from Changbin?
As if he could read his mind, Felix said “I’m sure you have a lot of questions, and I can’t answer all of them.” The hufflepuff stirred some sugar into his own tea with a spoon, before setting it gingerly on the counter.
“What can you tell me?” Changbin asked, taking a sip of the tea. It was chamomile, like your note said; he grinned at the taste, somehow sweeter because it reminded him of you.
“For starters, I just figured out who it was a week ago, so I haven’t betrayed you for that long.” Felix chuckled, snatching a cookie from the plate and dipping it in his tea, “And believe me, I’ve wanted to tell you about a million times since I found out.”
Changbin grabbed a cookie and took a bite out of it, the rich, spiced flavours contrasting with the tea well. He gazed at his friend, feeling a bit on edge and antsy. He wiped the crumbs from his mouth with the back of his hand before speaking again.
“What-”
“Hold it right there buddy!” Felix quickly interrupts, excited grin growing on his face, “You’re aware this is sort of like a game right?”
Changbin nodded, not sure what the other boy was getting at.
“Well, I am only allowed to answer three questions.” Felix said, holding up his fingers to emphasize his point, “And you can’t ask outright who they are. Other than that, you can ask almost anything!”
Changbin took a minute to process the game, before scoffing to himself with a smile. Of course you wouldn’t just let Felix outright reveal your identity; not after all the work you put into this little treasure hunt Changbin was on.
“Choose your questions carefully.” Felix warned, leaning back and taking a sip of his tea to let Changbin have some time to think.
What he didn’t expect was the Gryffindor to stand up from his spot and start pacing, seemingly deep in thought. It was endearing he took this little game that seriously.
Changbin’s brain was racing a million miles an hour. He wanted to know everything about you, but what was the most important think to ask?
After a few moments, Changbin sat back down and took a deep breath. Relax. He was meeting you today anyways, so he should just ask what his instincts tell him to.
“Ready?” Felix asked nonchalantly, lacing his fingers together and placing his hands under his chin. Changbin nodded firmly, determination gleaming in his eyes.
“How do you know them?”
“I first met them in a class the two of us share. I sit beside them and we exchange notes for the class pretty regularly.” Felix answered, as directly as he could without being too obvious.
“Okay... that narrows the options.... What gift was their favourite to make or which were they most excited to give me?”
“That’s technically two questions in one, but I’ll allow it because I actually know the answer to both. They said they liked making the snowglobe best because it was a very special and magical process, but were most excited to give you the chocolates because it was the first gift.”
“They sound like they’re sweet...”
“They are.”
Felix stared expectantly at Changbin, “Last question?”
Changbin had a question in mind, but he wasn’t sure if he should waste the last question on something so pointless. But it was killing him and he needed to know the answer to the question he’d not been able to stop thinking about since this whole thing started.
“Why do they like me?” Changbin practically mumbles the last syllable, eyes glued to the window. He felt his face flush as he watched the snow fall softly.
It wasn’t that Changbin didn’t like himself; he liked to think he was pretty confident guy overall. But the gifts and the notes just seemed so special, he almost wondered why he deserved them more than who was giving them to him.
“They think you are kind.” Felix began, voice gentle as he looked at his friend fondly, “And they think you’re a good, loyal friend. And above all else, they love how you’re so passionate about the things you care about.”
“That’s why they like you.” Felix hummed finally, taking his focus away from Changbin to drink more tea.
Changbin felt like he was frozen in time. He wasn’t sure what he expected from the question, but he didn’t expect such deep and thoughtful reasons.
After a moment, Changbin was finally able to bring his gaze back to his friend, who was beaming back at him. Changbin couldn’t help feel bashful, his heart feeling like it was going to pound out of his chest as the corners of his mouth quirked up.
“I need to know who they are.” He said dreamily. Felix hummed, setting his teacup down before reaching into his robe. He gingerly pulled out a sealed white envelope and handed it to Changbin.
“This is for you. It’ll tell you where they are waiting for you.” Felix explained, as Changbin took the envelope and tore it open. Inside was a familiar looking white note.
My Dearest Changbin,
I hope you’re not mad at Felix from keeping my identity secret. He’s just being a good friend to me :p
Anyways, I’m sure you figured it out by now. And if you haven’t, that’s okay too. You’ll know soon enough.
Changbin felt like his entire body was asleep, tingling from head to toe. He could hardly handle the anticipation as he read your note.
I know you spend a lot of time with your friends in the Ravenclaw common room. I assume its your favourite spot to spend time, right?
Mine is the covered bridge that goes over the ravine; Sometimes I visit Sundial Garden too because it’s close, but I find the open airiness of the bridge helps me think.
I am waiting for you on that bridge. I hope to see you soon. <3
Your Patient Admirer
Your note basically confirms you as a ravenclaw student, as you mentioned seeing Changbin spend time in the common room. But that barely mattered now as he knew where you were and that you were waiting for him.
He folded the note up and put in in his pocket, Giving an expectant look to Felix.
“They said they are on the bridge over the ravine.” He mumbled, almost confirming it to himself. Felix nodded, expression playful and soft as he watched his friend be practically frozen in place.
“I...”
“Why aren’t you leaving, dude?” Felix asked, tilting his head slightly as he watched the Gryffindor tap his toe nervously
“I’ve wanted to know for months now, but I’m scared.” Changbin confessed, letting out a breathless laugh, “I don’t want to disappoint them...”
“I can guarantee you, that is impossible.”
“how can you be sure”
“Because!” Felix sighed exasperatedly, standing up and grabbing onto his friend’s shoulders, “How on earth could you possibly disappoint them when they adore you this much?”
“I don’t know!” Changbin huffed out, shaking his head before gazing at Felix, “I guess I’m just scared we’ll spend time together and they’ll realize they don’t like me...”
“Bin, you are sounding irrational.” Felix deadpanned, squeezing the gryffindor’s shoulders and slightly shaking him, “Don’t you want to know who it is? Don’t you want to at least try and be with this person?”
“More than anything.” Changbin said firmly. As afraid as he was, he was sure he wanted to at least try
“Then go!” Felix chuckled, pushing Changbin away from him, “Go. I promise, it’ll be okay!”
“You’re right.” Changbin hummed, pushing aside his doubts, “Thank you Felix.” Felix nodded, sending his friend off with a thumbs up and a ‘you got this!’ as Changbin dashed out of the kitchen and on his way to the covered bridge where you were waiting.
He wanted to figure out who you were before arriving, but he couldn’t seem to think of who his secret admirer could be. You had a class with Felix (not really helpful because Changbin only shared one class with Felix, where they sat together), You were a ravenclaw (there were thousands of ravenclaws), and you enjoyed tea and reading.
Not to mention, he also didn’t recognize the handwriting, so he’s never borrowed notes form you before...
The wind was howling a bit more now as the snow fell in big, wet puffs. Changbin felt glad he brought his scarf with him as he walked along the path towards the bridge.
You, on the other hand, should have looked into what the weather was supposed to be like. You leaned on the railing, looking out into the snow covered ravine, sniffling slightly as your nose was running.
You debated on going back inside, knowing that Changbin would have to walk through the clock tower to get to the bridge anyways; but that thought stopped when you noticed a figure in the distance from your peripheral
Oh god, what do you do? Should you approach him? No because that would mean you’s have to awkwardly walk towards each other and wait to say anything. But if you pretended like you didn’t see him, he might not think you were his secret admirer! But there was nobody else outside because it was cold and snowing so how could he possibly think it was someone else? Should you just turn to look at him? At least then you’d be addressing-
“Hi.” Changbin greeted shyly, sliding next to your spot on the railing to look out on the bridge.
Oh god.
“Hello.” You replied, chewing your bottom lip nervously, stealing a glace at the gryffindor. Were his cheeks red from the cold or because he was embarrassed?
“You found me.” You mumble meekly, catching the way Changbin’s face morphed into a grin.
“So it is you?” He chuckled, turning towards you and smiling. You turned to look at him properly, nodding and letting and awkward giggle out. You weren’t sure what to say to him in this moment.
“Wow.” Changbin said simply, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly, “had no idea it could have been you...”
Oh god.
He was disappointed.
You should have known to never confess. God you felt so stupid! Of course THE Seo Changbin would never-
“I mean, aren’t you way out of my league?” Changbin said with a grin, as your eyes shoot up to meet his. He held that expression he always had whenever he would receive a gift; smile so wide his cheeks poked out, nose slightly crinkled and eyes glittering. You found yourself smiling too.
“Me? I don’t think you have any idea how wonderful you are if you think I’m out of your league...” You joked boldly, immediately looking down at your shoes out of embarrassment. Changbin let out a giggle, feeling like he was on cloud nine.
It was you.
Changbin never even considered you an option when thinking about his admirer. You were diligent and soft spoken and definitely seemed like you’d never be interested in a loud, childish, muscle-head like Changbin. He always thought you were attractive, but he thought he never had a chance with someone like you.
So imagine his surprise when he walked onto the bridge and saw your figure in the distance; he felt like it had to be a prank. But the closer he got the more he could see you were nervous and that nobody else was around to scream ‘gotcha!’ .
It was you and Changbin couldn’t have felt happier.
“Thank you, for everything.” Changbin hummed, handing you your book back. When you grabbed it, he swore he felt a shock go through his body.
“I- uhmm...” Changbin stuttered, clearing his throat while looking at the ground. Changbin had never felt nervous like this before, but he willed himself to be brave and just speak his mind.
“Listen,” he began, looking back up at you to see your anxious expression. He couldn’t help but think you looked cute, “I have never felt as cared about as I do because of you. It seems almost impossible for me to ever come close to making you feel so loved... But I want to try.
“So, do you maybe want to head inside and we can talk some?” Changbin asked, looking at you expectantly, “Perhaps over a cup of tea in the Museum or astronomy room?”
“As a date..?” You asked teasingly, causing Changbin to scoff
“yeah, as a date silly.” Changbin laughed, shaking his head playfully at you.
“Sounds lovely.” You accepted giddily. With a burst of courage, Changbin slips his hand into yours, eyes widening by how cold you are.
“Oh, I’m sorry I kept you waiting out here for so long, you’re freezing!” He huffed out, hastily taking his scarf off to wrap it around you delicately. He tucked it into your coat, lightly brushing your cheeks with his thumbs; you swore you would faint as Changbin smiled at you wrapped up in his scarf.
You tried not to cheer out loud at his sudden carefulness. His scarf smelled like him and you knew that you’d have a hard time wanting to take it off, even when you got back inside.
This all felt like a dream...
You slipped you hand into his once more as the two of you walked back to the castle, where you swore you could die happy.
--
“Oh dear, he looks like he’s trying to play it off but you can tell he’s upset...” Minho winced, as the table watched Chan have to break the heart of a poor Slytherin boy.
You watched apologetically, instinctually grabbing at Changbin’s hand as his arm rest around your shoulder. He pulled you closer to him, pressing you against his side as he frowned at the exchange.
When Chan returned, he let out a sigh, slumping down in his chair.
“Asked you out?” Seungmin asked, to which Chan nodded weakly.
“Yeah, he said he wanted to take me out to honeydukes this weekend, but I politely declined.” Chan said simply, crossing his arms over his chest as he furrowed his brow, “He seemed a bit embarrassed. I hope he’s okay...”
“Oh man, that’s rough.” Jeongin hummed, tapping his pencil against the edge of his herbology textbook.
“I do not envy you guys.” Changbin scoffed, turning to look down at you endearingly as you snuggled closer to your boyfriend.
Changbin, your boyfriend.
The thought of it made you both giddy.
“Yeah well, lucky for you to have the only person confess to you be someone you liked back!” Jisung pouted, patting Chan on the back, “some of us have to be heart breakers!”
“Not me.” Changbin mumbled, grinning dreamily before placing a sweet kiss on your lips (and consequently causing the rest of the table to groan).
Maybe it was alright that Changbin didn’t really have people confessing their love to him all the time. It used to bother him, but now that he got to have you, he was happy to not be a heart breaker.

do you have any tips on how to start writing fics?
the outsiders brainrot actually has me coming up with ideas and i have a desire to start writing them into actual stories but i've never written outside of class papers/assignments and i don't really know where/how to start since it's all just my own prompts and ideas and there's no grading rubric lmaoooo
like do you plan out each fic with a list first or do you just start writing about the main plot point of the chapter and fill in out of order or do you just start writing and see where it takes you... do you do any research while you're planning or pull from other authors/fics/posts or write from experience...
how do you decide when to stop writing or decide on which endings/paths/plot points to go with... the deadly combo of indecisiveness and perfectionism along with having no guidelines or due dates is crippling me so im asking some of my fav authors (who have also been inspiring me to write and be creative)
wait hi this is so sweet thank you!!! 🥹🥹 i will preface All This (sorry i yapped so much lol) by. i’ve been writing fic for like ten years and i think a lot of my old fic, while deeply cringe and awful, was all very important to getting me where i am today where i feel i can accurately get across what im trying to say!!!
first. hone your ideas!!! try to find a good niche you feel comfortable in (but also. don’t limit your creativity!!!). idk for me it’s easier to start specific and small rather than super general bc then i have Tooooo much freedom u know. i think my niche sorta across fandoms is generally softer dialogue, exploring close siblings or familial or friendship bonds an dynamics through situation, a lot of fluff, maybe a lil hurt comfort
i basically exclusively write in order! unless i get a really cool line/paragraph in my head that i write out and save for later to fit in somewhere. i usually have a like one-line idea that just Comes to me (ex. this was my entire line idea that turned into that pony getting jumped fic!)
Tumblr media
then i’ll expand it a little more into a shitty little paragraph (ex. here’s a few!!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then tbh after that i just kinda write everything in order from top to bottom from there. i wish i were more organized tbh and writing long fic/chaptered stuff is still sooo hard for me (which is why i don’t do it much yet lol) but im really trying to break out of it!! slowly we are learning!!! retaining the inspo and drive necessary to write that much is harddddd lmfao
before writing i always do have a solid idea where i want it to start and go and end though. like that ponyboy jumping fic i Knew i wanted to have pony get jumped in the opening scene, then go home, try to break down cutting his own hair, brothers come in and talk him down and it ends with talking abt johnny, even if i didn’t like. List that all out in words in a document.
definitely do research!!! espppp for outsiders bc it was like 60 years ago!!! well researched fics are soooo obviously tonally different and it’s always super obvious imo when that sort of care is put into ur writing. that fic i wrote about darry getting a panic attack was important researching bc panic attacks weren’t well known or researched or even Called panic attacks back then, so it’d be hella jarring seeing like 1967 13y/o pony whip out “you’re having a panic attack darry 🤓👆” yk lmfaoo
i SOO get the perfectionism and having no due dates thing btw. i have literally like 5 fics i’ve started and not finished in my docs rn with like 15 more ideas i wanna write someday. tbh! try to enter that Hyperfixation Zone and be really excited about what you’re making!!! helps it go by easier bc i swear sometimes i’ll write fic and it feels like pulling teeth even though it’s supposed to be fun!!!
last thing. try and find friends to bounce ideas off of and go crazy with you <3 or ppl to beta read!!! makes writing SO much easier and sm more fun having a your own lil personal cheerleader!!! if you ever need a beta id be soooo happy to read whatever you’ve got and hype u up!!! <3 i hope this helped at least a little bit LOL my writing process is kinda chaotic ngl

Thanks muchly for the tag, @kaossbells! That was quite a challenge! I had to think really long and hard about some of these questions. 😮‍💨🥰😘
20 Questions for Fic Writers
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
A measly 5. Yeeeeaaaah…I really need to post more stories more often! 😅 I’m more of an artist these days.
Luckily, I got infected by the writing bug this year thanks to my involvement in the F1 Big Bang fanfic event, so I hope that number will increase significantly this year. 🙏🏻
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
18,354. Again, hoping for more.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mainly F1. I’m planning on writing more fandoms I have an interest in such as Merlin, Good Omens, Our Flag Means Death, and The Legend Of Zelda. Maaaaaybe some Depeche Mode in the near future as well… 🤔
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1) Miracles Happen at the Right Place at the Right Time (F1)
2) As Drunk As A Finnish Brown Bear (F1)
3) Deep Tenebrosity (Merlin)
4) For The Sake Of Nature (F1)
5) My Soul Begs For Your Return (F1)
Yep, that’s all of them! 😅
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
For comments in general, oftentimes, I read a fic that’s so god tier that I don’t have any or enough words to express myself. If that happens, I always make sure to leave a comment anyway - descriptive or not - that I hope would make an author’s day. 💖
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably Deep Tenebrosity. It’s a bit open-ended and left to interpretation though as it’s an alternative scene of an episode of Merlin I wasn’t satisfied with. I’m definitely thinking of including some more angst for future fics though. It’s my favourite kind of ending compared to happy ones. Not that I hate happy endings. I love them, don’t get me wrong, I just love sad and angsty endings more.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Miracles Happen. It’s definitely the happiest ending I’ve written so far. The rest of my fics have either normal endings or sad ones.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nope! So far, at least.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
It’s not on AO3 (yet!), but I’m working on sneaking some smut into a few chapters of For The Sake Of Nature. 😏 It’s a long way yet though, so don’t get tooo excited. Shan’t spoil… 🤐
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I’ve never written a crossover before. However, I’m thinking of writing a Depeche Mode/IAMX crossover fic at some point. It’s still in the planning stages, so nothing concrete yet. I need to finish all my other WIPs I have stacked up in my hard drive first before I get too ahead of myself! 😵‍💫💫 You know how it is.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
I would really love to pitch an idea to fanfic websites to put a watermark or a copyright filter on your own fanfics, if it’s even possible. Maybe a certificate of authenticity of some kind? I would happily do that to every single one of my fics to prevent dirty thieves from stealing them. Please, make it happen!!!!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, as far as I’m aware.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I would really love to someday. 🤩
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
If it’s F1 RPF, it’s a toss-up between Simi and Martian. But seeing as we’ve just had Simi day, I’ll go for them. They are just the sweetest pairing. 🥰😘
If it’s any other fandom, that’s a bit harder! I’ll say Blackbonnet from the OFMD fandom for now.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
For The Sake Of Nature, definitely! It’s a veeeeeeeery slooooooooooooooow process. I’ll get it done eventually! Promise! 😬🙏🏻
16. What are your writing strengths?
I love being adventurous in my vocab when it comes to writing. I’ve read so many books and consumed so many dictionaries when I was very young, so that might have something to do with it. You learn a lot from reading books. From knowing how to structure a sentence, to how dialogue is written and where they’re appropriate to use, to certain language and behavioural ticks from characters, to describing unique locations and objects. It’s very fascinating and they help massively with my writing.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
The only thing I struggle with is not so much about the writing side of things, but it’s all about time management. As in making a plan of posting fanfics on certain dates and times and never getting around to doing it because of my usually packed schedule.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I’m lucky to have friends on Discord and Tumblr who speak in their native tongues to help me out if I ever get stuck. I don’t trust the internet, so I rely on them for language authenticity.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Merlin!
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Urrrrmmm…I don’t really have one! Though having said that, I enjoyed writing dialogue for Kimi in As Drunk As A Finnish Brown Bear! You can write absolutely anything when you’re writing a drunk Finn! Easiest job in the world! 🤣🤣🤣
I tag @miss-malheur, @msmirrorball21, @formulaes5, @hungriestheidi, @wanderingblindly, and anyone who sees this and wants to participate. Please ignore if you’ve already done this or don’t want to do it, that’s completely fine. 😊

Currently thinking about the ask you got a little bit ago about a missing scene in the dreamer in the field pointed west to the sea and thinking about how Theo got back to the clinic after being hurt so badly and I'm picturing him like, Parrish carrying him to a car and then Malia and Scott siphoning his pain and worrying about the alpha wounds and Corey holding his hand and not letting go even though he cant do anything and Lydia brushing his hair out of his face and touching him so gently and Argent watching worriedly in the rearview mirror and Parrish twisting around the the passenger seat to try and clean the blood away as best he could and all of them fussing over him in low tones while Theo is just unconscious and doesn't know how concerned and proud they are...
I don't know, I know it's silly but just thinking about all that fluff and hurt/comfort after such a painfully violent and traumatic event makes me feel so many things
Not silly at all. I think I end up writing half of these stories to give me excuses to wrap myself up in all that hurt/comfort for a while, so I’m right there with you. And maybe someday I’ll end up writing this, too! 😊

I figured it was time to do another rewatch of ATLA, and I’m so glad I did! Going through all the episodes re-ignited my love for the series and sparked my interest in writing again. Zutara always has, and always will, hold all of my heart. They have me in a chokehold like no other. But, can we take a moment to appreciate Zuko and Jet’s little moment of friendship? We were ROBBED of more scenes of the two of them 😭
Anyway, I went back to one of my unfinished fanfics on my computer. It’s a Zutara adaptation based on the Netflix show, Dash & Lily (with Zuko taking the role of Dash and Katara taking the role of Lily). Maybe I’ll continue it someday. I’d like to, since I think it has the potential to be a cute and fun story to write. Let me know if this is something you’d like to read in the future.
There’s one scene that I partially completed. It’s between Zuko, who’s a grad student at Ba Sing Se University, and Jet, his best friend and roommate, who’s a bartender in a restaurant. It’s a modern AU fic with no bending.
I thought I’d share the scene here, just for fun. Otherwise, it’ll keep gathering dust 😅 Enjoy this platonic Jetko banter!
*****
Pushing open the set of double doors to the restaurant, Zuko shivered from the sudden blast of warm air. As soon he stepped inside, he stamped his feet against the mat, dislodging any remnants of the snow and ice from his boots.
Looking up from the ground, he found the place practically empty, except for a few stray customers who were either finishing up their dinners or were lingering, chatting with their dining partners. Considering that it was about an hour until closing on a Tuesday, he wasn’t surprised to see the slow pace of the restaurant. Still, a blend of spices cardamom, coriander, and curry, if he had to guess – wafted around him, signaling that the kitchen hadn’t stopped making dishes for the night. He breathed in deeply, hoping the comforting aroma would center him as he made his way towards the bar.
From his vantage point, there was only one person in that area – the lone figure in a black t-shirt behind the bar. Thank Agni it was just him tonight. Zuko shuddered at the thought of having to share the space with other patrons when he was in such an awful mood.
Inching closer, Zuko could hear Jet whistling a jaunty tune, as he hung glasses on the rack above his head. Once Jet’s eyes landed on the bedraggled grad student, he flashed a bright grin.
Before Zuko could open his mouth to greet the bartender, Jet raised an eyebrow and drawled, “You look like you could use a drink.”
Sighing, Zuko nodded. “More like five,” he muttered, slumping into one of the large bar stools.
Chuckling lowly, Jet pointed a finger at Zuko. “I’m cutting you off after two. As your roommate and best friend, I say this with all the care in the world –” He paused dramatically before bluntly announcing, “You’re a fucking nightmare when you’ve had too much to drink, especially when you’re in public. At least I could have some fun if you were a handsy drunk or a reckless one. But, no, you just have to be the rudest, meanest drunk I’ve met in my entire life.” He shook his head, his lips curling into a smirk. “I mean, you’re always rude, but alcohol makes it twenty times worse.”
Narrowing his eyes, Zuko snarled through his teeth, “Fuck you.”
Unperturbed by his friend’s mood, Jet simply winked. “Maybe later, gorgeous.”
Instantly flushing at his words, Zuko crossed his arms and growled, “Just fix me a fucking drink. I don’t care what it is, as long as it’s strong and makes me forget about the day I’ve had.”
Jet raised both hands in surrender. “Fine. Here’s the deal, though – you’re gonna drink the whole damn thing without threatening to maim or murder me.”
A loud groan escaped Zuko, but he relented with a wave of his hand. “Whatever. If I were sane right now, I’d punch you and tell you to fuck off. But, I’m not, so just go for it.”
Jet pumped a victory fist in the air before rubbing his hands together, almost maniacally. “Bro, you’re in for a treat.”
Making an impatient gesture, Zuko shot a sharp glare at Jet. “Hurry it up, will you?”
Turning his back, Jet got to work. He grabbed two bottles of liquor and a handful of other ingredients, purposely shielding his actions from Zuko’s view, which in and of itself was highly disturbing. Of course, Zuko trusted his friend not to drug or poison him, but at the same time, his level of concern steadily increased as he watched Jet throw item after item into a cocktail shaker.
A minute later, the drink was poured, and a glass slid across the bar. Zuko caught it easily with his right hand, thankful for his quick reflexes.
“Drink up, Z.”
“Cheers.” Zuko knocked back a good portion of the concoction, which apparently was a huge mistake. His face immediately screwed into a look of utter disgust, as he coughed out violently, “What the fuck did you just give me, Jet?!”
Doubling over with laughter, Jet slapped the bar counter. “That’s my ‘Get Zuko to talk’ drink! I just made it up on the spot! Isn’t it awesome?”
Shoving the offending drink away, Zuko wheezed, “That, right there, is the foulest thing I’ve ever tasted. And that includes all the horrible drinks and foods Azula has made me try over the years just to torture me!”
After righting himself and taking a breath, Jet turned to Zuko with a snort. “Oh, lighten up. It’s not that bad.”
“You’re not the one who tasted it, you jackass!” Zuko argued, finally settling down from his coughing fit. “Seriously, what did you put in there?”
Shrugging, Jet listed the ingredients as if he were talking about something as mundane as the weather. “A blend of Maotai and the Earth Kingdom’s strongest whiskey, crushed ginger, crushed lychee, a few sliced Thai chili peppers, freshly squeezed mandarin juice, and carbonated coconut water.”

🍇, 🍑, and 🍊 for the ask game :)
🍇 Is there a particular scene/episode/book/etc that you want to just write a million fics about, over and over? Which one?
For books, immediately Post Book 3 and during Riddle of Ages, as well as the cave scene (augh!). For the show, anything that takes place at Curtain’s happiness compound, especially the scene where Nicholas goes “catatonic.” This is my formal announcement for everyone to go read Cain’s Lament and to write a nice little letter to Gert in the comments section telling him how it destroyed your life.
🍑 If you could make a connection between your favorite character and another work you care about (whether a crossover/fusion or a wonderfully “pretentious” literary reference) what would it be? How would it work?
Ohhhh baby there is a Frankenstein AU with Garrison and the Whisperer that I definitely do not have the emotional capacity to bring to life. The version that exists in my head is devastating though you’ll just have to take my word for it
🍊 Who’s a character you don’t write for that often, but keep meaning to write for more? (They’re so interesting! But maybe you have trouble pinning them down, or keep getting distracted by another blorbo…)
Probably Sticky and Reynie, I adore them but their voices don’t feel quite right when I write them. I’ll get there someday.

so how would four's family react to her and acht dating
Oh this is going to force me to decide what Four’s family looks like. After giving it some thought (daydreaming about it while brushing my teeth), I’ve concluded that they are an only child, but have an absurd amount of cousins that they see almost every day and are very close with. They were raised by their two moms who had a tough time trying to be good parents and really stressed out about it. They really just want for Four to have a happy and successful life.
I imagine Four’s family would be very worried and suspicious at first but, upon seeing how happy Four is with Acht, would be alright with it.
It would be difficult for Four to initially explain that their partner is sanitized and the whole tartar scenario, and even more difficult to explain how they themself were greyscaled. Especially since they’d have to bring up being a part of the New Squidbeak Splatoon which, while their family knew about it, they showed clearly that they didn’t support it. They thought it was too dangerous and this would prove them right.
At first their family is worried about them because they were mind controlled by an AI. They forbid them from doing any other agent work, which Four is extremely upset about. Their family also soon becomes worried about their relationship with Acht for fear that it is just a trauma response when Four was in a vulnerable state and needed someone to latch on to. At first they don’t really trust Acht simply because they want to protect Four (they’ve been through enough already and don’t need any relationship drama).
Eventually, Four suffers from a severe bout of flashbacks about being greyscaled (which happens fairly frequently for them). Their family sees how well Acht is able to comfort them through it and they realize just how much Acht has helped Four. Four is genuinely happy with Acht, and their family only sees that now.
Their family begins to grow closer with Acht, and eventually they grow worried for them as well, now understanding what they went through with the sanitization.
After growing closer with Acht and understanding the situation Four and Acht are in, they allow Four to return to agent work (though the never stopped, they just didn’t tell them). Essentially Four’s family becomes extremely over protective of the both of them.
But I can’t talk about Four’s family without at least mention Acht’s, which leads me to Paul. Acht is not mentally healthy at all (obviously), so they will often just avoid something that they know will cause them a lot of emotions that they don’t want to feel. Seeking out Paul was out of the question for them, until Four insisted on it. Acht had met their family, now they wanted to meet Acht’s. While they were reluctant at first, Acht eventually got excited to finally see their brother again.
Maybe someday I’ll write out a full scene for an Acht and Paul reunion, but to sum it up there was a lot of tears and a lot of hugging. Paul is so happy that Four pushed Acht to find him. Paul and Four quickly became best friends.
Acht and Paul were raised by their dad and are both very close with him. He was extremely disorganized, which led to Acht having to take on most of the chores and responsibilities around the house from a young age, but he cared deeply for the both of them and showed it as often as he could. Him and Paul were the first things Acht remembered after starting to heal from the sanitization.
It took some time for Acht to find their dad because Paul hadn’t been searching either. Shortly after Acht was reported missing, he ran away from home hoping that maybe he could find them in Inkopolis and couldn’t bring himself to see his dad again after leaving. The two looked for him extensively (with the help of Four of course) and eventually found that he had been living in Splatsville for a few months now. He thought that maybe if he followed the trend of kids moving to Splatsville, he’d find his children. Yet another tearful reunion ensued. Acht and Paul’s dad immidetly took a liking to Agent 4. They did help bring his children back after all.
Ohhhh wow I wrote way more for this than I had initially intended to, it just sort of happened. If you actually read all of this then thank you for listening to my rambling about these goofballs.
This ask was a fun one! I hadn’t really thought about it before, so it really got my creativity going! (Though I did already have some on Acht’s family. I’ll just casually slide this in right here.) Thank you so much for the ask!

Wind in Hand (XVN fic)
Was accepting prompts to challenge myself to write short stories! This was a suggestion by Kanonavi - thank you! Prompt: "what about Xiao and Venti flying kites together for Lantern Rite?"
“I’ll leave these two kites with you. Perhaps you can find a few friends with which to partake in the activity. You might find it to be an enjoyable use of your time.” Zhongli had spoken so casually, leaving names unspoken to alleviate unintentional pressure. The openness invited a multitude of options. There was the obvious hope the once Geo Archon carried, that Xiao would opt to eventually request himself and Hu Tao. A request that would, in time, be made. The other obvious choice was the Traveler and Paimon, a pair that drifted in and out of Liyue as frequently as the sun and moon traded places in the sky. One day the two were there, and the next resuming their travels to another place in Teyvat.
Neither pair were the names that came to Xiao’s mind.
None came to mind, really. Just a giant, blank emptiness as Zhongli had suggested friends. Xiao didn’t really have friends. His life had been, until recently, rather isolated.
Yet as soon as Xiao found himself asking, “Oh, uh… Wait, who enjoys kite-flying?” The answer had already arrived.
The day was still young, and there was yet time to watch the Xiao Lanterns and kites to rise when night fell. Once the conversation had ended, the yaksha traveled a familiar path. One he had traversed many times over the last two-thousand years. The reason never once wavering, though the explanation often did. A reason that always brought with him rationality using notes pure and comforting. The scent of flowers that only blossomed from the soft caress of crisp Monstadt winds followed his steps, sometimes mingling with that of apple blooms. It was always the wind that came to visit Xiao, for the yaksha could never leave Liyue.
That did not mean the yaksha never found a place in the middle, a purgatory that existed solely for their meetings.
The Ridge Watch domain was the more notable landmark for those less experienced with what the ruins around it had once been. Much to his chagrin, Xiao found two Fatui members chatting while they played cards. Scaring them away was surprisingly easy. The two had mistook Xiao’s scolding voice to be a commander, scrambling to get to wherever they were supposed to actually be. The scene would have been comical were Xiao not irritated that the pair were in their spot. Rolling his shoulders and controlling his breath, the yaksha tried to exhale the agitation. This was not how he wanted to greet the other. Once calmed, Xiao stood by the invisible line that separated Liyue and Mondstadt. He could not take a step further. Not without risking the contract that, though he was no longer held accountable for, still treasured too deeply to break.
Someday, perhaps. When the idea didn’t threaten to break his heart all over again.
There had never been a need to yell or call out. All Xiao ever had to do was remove a qingxin flower, and carefully release it into the breeze. Allow the wind to carry the white petals along with it into Monstadt, a quiet calling card. If the other was among mortals, the wait could be awhile. Sudden disappearances tended to raise questions and suspicion.
Maybe the wind knew this would happen. Barely seconds passed, Xiao standing there with his eyes closed while feeling the light flutters of dandelion seeds fluttering across his face and hair. Gold eyes opened, turning to where the wind came from to spot Venti standing there next to him. Close enough to smell cecilias, apples, and the first hints of… Rice wine. A slight smile found its way onto Xiao’s face. Couldn’t help the fond amusement at how, even if not in Liyue, Venti still celebrated Lantern Rite. Knew the bard preferred the taste of apple-based ales over fermented rice, yet still drank based on the occasion.
“Happy Lantern Rite.” Venti greeted, fond smile curving into his eyes.
“Happy Lantern Rite.” Xiao returned, his eyes softening from its more common biting gaze. Too many centuries chiding humans for traveling into danger made beautiful golds into something sharper, but this was not a person that needed chiding. Well. Exempting playful chiding, at any rate.
“You seem well.” Venti commented, eyes of blues and greens filled with warmth that the karmic debt that tried to consume Xiao seemed almost quiet in the sunlit field.
“I am. What you did last year is still helping. Is… Always helping.” Xiao murmured, unable to restrain the need to slide his hand into Venti’s. Ran his thumb in a circle within the bard’s palm, quietly regretted not taking his glove off first to feel the softness of the other’s skin. There were little laughs from Venti, his own fingers wrapping around the yaksha’s to return the hold.
“That’s good! At first, I was a bit worried this was a call for help.” Venti admitted. “Does that mean… This is just a visit?” He asked, hope mingling with an almost playful tone.
“Something like that.” Xiao admitted. At this, Venti raised a brow with one side of his lips twitching as it tried to switch from smile to grin. “They’re doing something… Different for Lantern Rite this year. Kites. Do you… I mean, would you like to…?” As Xiao fumbled over how he wanted to ask, more laughter tickled his ears.
“Would I!” Venti declared, delight in his voice as he pulled the yaksha with him more into Liyue territory. Closer to the domain, and further away from where Dawn Winery stood in the distance. There was an old, rocky column held aloft by part of the wall it was still attached to, and a large boulder it had fallen onto. The length of it was at an angle, but could be used for sitting if either of them wanted to. The ancient beam was too high to lean against while they stood, but Venti apparently intended to stand on it. More than willing to roll with the bard’s antics, Xiao followed suit. These antics always ended up being entertaining, or enjoyable. An aspect that Hu Tao also had, and was a big reason he felt a certain fondness towards the funeral director. The mischief she carried, the love of poetry she had, these two aspects reminded the yaksha so much of Venti.
A similarity that with as much Xiao enjoyed, he did not point out to Zhongli. The yaksha very much doubted that Zhongli would feel that same comfort if this was ever brought to his attention. Someone would, eventually, tell Zhongli that his search for familiarity led him to finding a boss that subconsciously reminded him of the windiest pain in his neck. That someone would not be Xiao.
“What kind of kites did you bring?” Venti asked eagerly, never once releasing Xiao’s hand as he all but bounced on his heels.
“I… Well…” Xiao fumbled, suddenly self-conscious about the fact one of the kites was mechanized and needed no wind. This was the Anemo Archon. Had Xiao actually brought a no-wind needing kite… To the Anemo Archon? As the points of his ears turned red, the bard remained polite and didn’t comment on the growing blush. “These ones… Were given to me.” With his free hand, he pulled out the two kites. There was the one designed by Director Hu herself, designed with the shape of her mascot ghost with floral accents. That was the traditional kite. The mechanical one was that of the dancing butterfly design, the frame somewhat heavier due to the components versus its lighter, ghost counterpart. “Apparently there was some Fontainian influence this year, to make kites that… Can fly on their own.” He tried to supply, attempting to swallow back his anxiety.
“Fontainian, hmm?” Venti echoed, humming thoughtfully as he ran fingers along the two designs. “Humans are amazing, aren’t they?” He asked, that fondness still in his eyes as he looked at the pair of kites. “Always marching towards the future, ever shaping and changing.” The two stood in silence, Xiao uncertain if it would be more rude or less if he offered to use the mechanical one. “I’ll bet you this kite would fly in Mare Jivari! Oh, but… Hmm. It might go up in flames instead, huh?” He murmured, gaze curious and thoughtful. “Do you have a preference?” The bard finally asked, pulling away from his thoughts to turn that gaze from kites to yaksha.
“No. Not really. I just… Wanted to fly kites with… You.” Xiao finished, almost shyly. For as long as the two had known each other, for as many kisses the two shared, each visit always felt like the first. Yet the feeling was that of having known Venti forever, to no longer fathoming a time in which the bard wasn’t an integral piece of Xiao’s heart. The hand holding his swayed, and Venti bumped his shoulder against Xiao’s.
“Awe! Do you have a crush on me, Conqueror of Hearts?” Venti teased.
“Of Demons.” Xiao grumbled, the red on his ears creeping towards his cheeks. “Bar-...Venti, we’ve been dating for centuries now.” He reminded the other, despite knowing full well he didn’t need to.
“We have?!” Venti gasped playfully, no longer bumping and now letting their shoulders simply touch. “I don’t have to be your secret admirer anymore? I can openly admire you?” He asked, leaning closer so that their noses bumped.
“Only if you let me do the same for you.” Xiao’s answer was quiet, more a comment to himself than one he intended to share.
“...Is that what you want?” Venti inquired, pausing in his impish banter to stare directly into Xiao’s. Their eyes were locked on each other, unspoken questions passing between the pair.
“May I?” Xiao’s request was soft, a hesitation away from pressing closer. To not just feel but taste the bard’s breath.
“...Of course.” Venti finally conceded, the laugh not even leaving him before Xiao’s lips pressed into his. The two kites fluttered from a gloved hand, the bare fingers that had been touching them no longer able to. Instead Xiao wanted to hold something far better, one hand still clutching Venti’s while the other wrapped around the bard’s waist. There was time to fly the kites before lanterns rose into the sky. There would be many more days to fly kites together. But right then, Xiao didn’t watch to watch the wind - he wanted to hold it. To feel Venti lean into his hold, to have as many moments like this as he could.
Moments that now, wouldn’t stop even if humans were around to witness it.

NOTES: For the fic, rewatched some cutscenes, and could not find any showing what mechanical kite design Zhongli had to give Xiao. Thought about it being the scissor-tail swallow, but its symbolism was, “good fortune and different tiding,” with colour variations lending to other meanings. Keqing didn’t go into what different colours might mean. Meanwhile, the dancing butterfly design was, “freedom, happiness, or the desire to break free.” Which is more in alignment with Xiao and Venti.

Question!
What are your thoughts about oldtimerbuckley and callmeshepard stories. They're so great 🤯 i just wish they could join either Twitter or here
Hey there sweetie! How have we never talked about them? Both writers are very good, and I do wish that more of the writers were on social media. It’s hard though, especially with so much negativity surrounding the ship, I don’t blame writers (and readers) for not engaging on social media.
Joellie discussion below cut
Starting with CallMeShepard - he holds a special place in my heart as “Just Go With It” was the first Joellie story I read. I fell in love with the idea of Joel and Ellie falling in love, which is what happened in that story. The fake dating storyline, the forced proximity, one hotel room and one bed trope - hook, line and sinker.
I haven’t followed along as much with “100 Steps to You.” I understand how hard it can be to balance writing with life, and I know it’s been a struggle for him to update. Maybe someday he’ll be able to post the whole story and I’ll read it.
Oldtimerbuckley - listen, if you’re reading Joellie stories but haven’t read Buckley’s stories, come sit by Mama Bear, come here. Run, do not walk, don’t pass go, do not collect $200. Run your ass over to ao3 and start with “What kind of man loves like this” and you will understand why we love Buckley. Every chapter is good, but chapters 5 and 6 will melt your damned brain. Joel and Ellie fooling around in a church (Ellie is kind of mean, but we’ll allow it) and then chapter 6 is a Joellie rewrite of the Part 2 porch scene… with smut. (This might be my bedtime story tonight… just saying)
It appears that the follow up story - “I will follow you into the dark” - is on hiatus, but she’s writing (and soon wrapping up) another story - “don’t be a stranger” - and it’s another brain melter. Joel and Ellie fooling around in Tommy and Maria’s bathroom… I’m just saying. Run, don’t walk.
