𝑻𝑳𝑫𝑹 .

there was little glory in being a the second son . it wasn't something that erren was told, as much as something he'd gathered . the first was the heir . the second child , the spare . the one to step in should the worst happen ; the shadow that the heir left behind .

erren was glad for that shadow . almost no one could see him standing right behind it .

the heir and spare had responsibilities and expectations . should the worst happen , those responsibilities and expectations would fall onto erren . he was to be prepared for that day , apparently . he was to ready himself for it .

but in that shadow erren had freedom . the eyes that settled on his siblings could barely find him there . he took advantage of that darkness to pursue his own endeavors . art . music . liquor . pleasure . adventure . the world was filled with things to see and do , things to enjoy . and erren was determined to enjoy them . determined to not turn away from this gift he was given , from the burden that his elder siblings had spared him , perhaps some would say he indulged too much . he pities them . obviously they know little of how to live.

however, his lord father and lady mother saw things differently . wished him to be different , truly . should the worst happen , they wished to have erren . and should that happen he would need to be dependable . he needed to support with military force . he needed to marry well . he needed to be this , or maybe that , and also this , and perhaps that . erren felt his hackles rise under the expectation . the teeth of a wolf bared at the sight of a cage closing in .

all erren wished was that the worst never happened . that wish came only half selfishly .

he was not meant to rule , truly . he was well aware of it . he would be a poor king of the north , and an even poorer commander of any army . he hadn't the disposition for it , no matter how his parents argued otherwise . his greatness wasn't held there . it was held in the clay between his fingers . held in the strings of his lute under his fingertips . he was not purposeless . was his fate not something he decided ?

the older they got the more eyes fell on them in winterfell . heavy with recognition . with expectation . they made his skin crawl enough for him to take the leap . to leave winterfell with little more than the clothes on his back , his direwolf and a longing for anonymity . they travelled not aimlessly , but instinctively . a coin flipped for which boat to seek passage on . a finger pointed in the direction of which winding path to take . it was a luxury his elder siblings would perhaps never be allowed, so erren did their best to savour their pleasure in it . to indulge plenty for them too .

of course , it wasn't long until he was found . until he was brought right back to winterfell to look up into the disappointed , heavy gazes of his parents once again .

and when those gazes got too heavy , when the cage closing in begin to raise his hackles once again , erren would find another friend to grant them passage . would find another adventure to escape into for the moment . or perhaps , hopefully , forever .

it never was of course . one cannot truly outrun their blood , no matter how much they may try . their wings were already clipped by the long winter which left them bound to winterfell and they knew that perhaps , eventually they would have to marry . will have to let duty shackle them even more firmly than the seasons had . but eventually is not today , and with the end of winter upon them erren feels their feet itching to race into the distance once again . so perhaps they'll indulge themself in the meantime . have fun .

after all, it would not do to waste the gift of this shadow .

𝑴𝑰𝑺𝑪 .

erren , my irresponsible king . literally should be at the club rn , but instead he is in winterfell plotting his next grand escape . truly a sweetheart , and incredibly loyal , but will be here one moment and gone the next i fear sdkjd they WILL disappear in a cloud of smoke if the opportunity arises . your local art hoe , literally out here with talent for the most useless things like considering their position . this was sparked when as a child he fell in love with the artistry of the statues in the winterfell crypt and became entirely fixated on creating something of similar greatness himself . i imagine that they skipped many a training lesson in this pursuit and were punished accordingly , but after years of practice they are able to sculpt a pretty realistic likeness out of stone . they have in fact likely made statues of all of their siblings ( the faces they know the best likely ) and as morbid as it is they hope to be able to use this talent to eventually honour them all in death . they do believe this is their purpose but idk how many would agree . made a lot of friends during their travels ( from when they were a late teenager until they were about twenty considering the long winter ) because they're genuinely quite easy to get along with as long as you're not trying to pressure them into a position of power . honestly , probably has commitment issues . is honestly a pretty decent fighter but that might be a combination of their training and sheer amount of bar fights they've gotten into so are they polished ? no . also has a direwolf named shadow bc we love like to have fun here . anyways he's quite literally here for a good time and not a long time okay < 3

friends who he met on his travels ! enemies who he met on his travels ! people who hate him ! people who love him ! past paramours because he would have them ... perhaps some that ended on good terms , and some that ended on less than good terms . childhood friends ! a betrothed ( who he is probably incredibly reluctant over tbh ). someone he's trying to convince to run away with him because he's annoying like that . a muse would also eat ! or even someone who they give all their art too because they're honestly not going to keep it all . a also perhaps drinking buddy or someone to spar with ... and anything else ok < 33
