Idc what anyone says I’m never forgiving Arthur for carrying his WIFE and QUEEN bent over the saddle like a bag of potatoes in season 5. I know she was possessed but WHAT

say what you will about gwen and merlin in season 5 but they did one thing right. gwen knew merlin was arthur's guardian angel. she knew that even before she understood the full extent of it. in the disir, despite all the knights going on the quest with them, gwen asks merlin to keep him safe because she knows how devoted he is to arthur and how important arthur's safety is to him himself. then even when she's under morgana's control, she knows merlin is arthur's most effective guardian so much so that they concoct an entire separate plan to get merlin out of the citadel for the assassination attempt. not to mention her trying to pin the blame of the poisoning on merlin because him being free jeopardised the plan more than anything else. and then of course at the battle of camlann she knew the one person that could summon a lightning storm to save arthur would of course be merlin and if there was one person she trusted with arthur as he died of course it would be merlin.

mergwenthur is indeed absolute ot3, ship of all time, but i need you to swear on arwen + platonic merthur and platonic mergwen. the sheer flavour of arwen in married bliss, having only romantic eyes for each other, but their best friend and closest advisor merlin being as important to them as they are to each other. no romance or sex required, they love him so much and would do absolutely anything for him, and the feeling is mutual. no one else is allowed to infringe on their privacy as a married couple, yet merlin is. he attends to them both in their chambers at times when they wish to be left alone, he comes with them on their picnics, he eats dinner with them in private. people think that there must be something going on, but there isn't. arthur is still a little shit to merlin, and merlin still sasses him out without remorse, because that's the kind of friendship they have, but they love each other fiercely. gwen is the gentle buffer who keeps them from going too far and reminds them that they love each other when they argue or disagree, and they absolutely adore her. arthur is a possessive little shit who has been known to freak if someone so much as looks at gwen wrong, and yet these rules don't apply to merlin. he'd happily leave his wife and his best friend completely alone in his chambers, and feels no jealousy when they express their affection for each other, only the urge to join in because he loves them both so much. just. ugh. it's so good, i'm gonna implode.

Merlin rewatch -- S1E5: Lancelot

Gwen and Merlin

Merlin and Gwen being Lancelot's No.1 supporter was so adorable ~~ Merlin's double thumbs up when Arthur ordered Lancelot to clean the stable lol He's so precious. I like the implication that Merlin knew too well that it was Arthur’s way of assessing new knights

Lancelot and Guinevere

I don't particularly ship gwencelot, but I quite like their first scene together. I like their chemistry. I think it's because it wasn't heavily romantic on both sides. Gwen was still kind of crushing on Merlin so she only lightheartedly flirted with this hot guy, whereas Lancelot was completely smitten. I LOVE Lancelot being all knightly, saying “my lady” and kissing her hand. Just like Merlin regarded Lancelot as a perfect knight material despite his status, to Lancelot "lady" wasn't a title reserved for noble birth women either.

(Their second romance scene was a bit too much for me... Suddenly it escalated to“ If I don’t return…” “ Don’t go.” “ I must.”)
