How would modern vampires work in terms of the dirt? Vampires need to travel around with the soil of their homeland. Easy enough when everyone's homeland was a huge chunk of the map, but how does it work now? How would an American vampire work? Would they just need US soil from any ole spot? Because let me tell ya, the soil fuckin varies. The soil from say Tampa, Florida ≠ the soil from Eastern Kentucky. So would you need specific state dirt or could a pacific northwest vampire vibe with eastcoast city dirt? If you're from Canada is just Canadian soil good or do vamps from Quebec just absolutely curdle if you put them in Ontario earth?

it’s wild to me that like every modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (and by modern I mean “made recently” not “set in modern times”) is like Hell Bent on coming up with a Reason™️ that Watson stays with Holmes and trots around with him on adventures all the time despite the inconvenience and the danger and all, and so it’s like “oh, Watson’s a gambling addict, he loves uncertainty and mystery” or “oh, Watson’s an adrenaline junkie, he gets off on being constantly in danger from criminals” or even like “Watson’s atoning for sins of the past of BEING IN THE WAR by solving crimes with Holmes now” or WHATEVER. And it’s like, girl, maybe he’s just in love! Did you think of that?? Maybe he’s got a crush and it’s making him do stupid things. Maybe he’s just got bad taste and his type is guys who don’t know how to refold newspapers properly but can identify different types of cigar ash by sight, smell, and taste. And wrote a monograph on the subject. Maybe he’s down bad is all. I mean, Keep is simple, stupid!!!
#this whole problem also requires the extra step of making Holmes into someone who’s like actively cruel and terrible to Watson specifically#which like he also isn’t in canon at all#he’d probably be an inconvenient roommate that not everyone would personally want to put up with#but he’s not like endangering Watson all the time and interfering in his affairs constantly#The way writers always adapt him doing#so like it’s a problem they’re inventing and then writing a silly solution for#and no one better come for me for ‘bad taste’ I was trying to be funny and also Holmes is insane#the fact that Watson took one look at him and his bonkers lifestyle and pledged his life to him is just proof that Watson is also insane#in the when harry met Sally way of ‘thank god these two found each other and spared the rest of us the trouble’#anyway this is all part and parcel with the way writers who adapt Holmes don’t understand Watson#and even people who LIKE Holmes and get his deal still rarely get what makes Watson great#BUT that’s an essay for a different time and I won’t get into it now#sherlock holmes#john watson#doctor watson#acd#acd canon#tagging this as canon is sooo silly sorry but I don’t know what else to put#also worth noting that like the idea of working with Holmes as this chronically super dangerous thing is also silly#Like a solid percentage of their cases are solved from the comfort of baker street#there’s definitely some dangerous cases (‘bring your revolver’ is a meme for a reason after all) but like not enough of them#that you can make a strong case for John Watson: Adrenaline Junkie™️#except that modern writers make every case life or death high stakes serious so like….thats where it comes from#ANYWAY

John Price never really understood your humor. But it was the same for most older people. Especially when it came to someone as detached from the internet as John. It was a good thing your boyfriend had you to keep him updated with whatever new ridiculous term or phrase was popular.
“I can’t hang out today–nature’s punishing me for not being pregnant.”
It started as a fleeting joke. Something you and your friends always said whenever it was that time of the month. It had been ingrained into your entire group’s vocabulary after years of use. Now, it was just a casual way of saying, ‘hey, I got my period.’
It was odd to him at first. Why would the trees care if you’re not pregnant? he asked with a confused face, prompting you to giggle and kiss his bearded cheek. Fifteen minutes later, the man was enlightened on why you were blaming nature–Mother Nature to be more specific. You expected him to forget about it afterwards (like he did with most slang), but what you didn’t expect was for him to take it seriously. Not in the way you thought at least.
You were expecting more care from him–tip-toeing when you were sleeping, not cooking meat while you felt nauseous, and buying ample sweets and unhealthy snacks for you to munch on while crying over silly romcoms.
But instead, you received more sensual touches and lingering stares at your lower abdomen. You’d often have to push him away from your sore and tender breasts. “You wouldn’t be so uncomfortable if you were pregnant, you know,” he’d often joke, making you choke or spit out whatever was in your mouth. He’d massage your back and take small breaks to palm himself as he imagined you requesting a massage because your belly had been feeling too heavy lately.
It was all too much. Too surprising. The two of you had never spoken about children, yet you felt like you had unlocked a different side of him. A side that was hidden away for your safety because now, the man was convinced that you needed to be with his child to satisfy Mother Nature.
“I don’t think we should disrespect Mother Nature like that. Don’t you agree, love?” he mumbled into your ear as he parted your legs with his big, rough hands. “I don’t wanna see you in pain. You’ve been punished enough.” He kisses your neck with fervent need–a deep and dark desire to fill you with his seed. You sluggishly try to push his shoulder to get him to stop leaning over you. “John–”
But the man’s strength prevents him from budging an inch. “Shh, none of that. You’ll take everything I give you,” he says as his cock nudges your entrance.

Sorry, but I just don’t buy the whole “actually Mythal decided after centuries of wandering Thedas as Flemeth that modern people deserve a chance” thing. Because the fragment of Mythal we’re talking about is the jaded old swamp witch who
-Inhabited the body of a woman betrayed by her lover(s) because they found common ground in their suffering and the injustices done to them. (“Once I was but a woman, crying out in the lonely darkness for justice.” - DAI)
-Resents that betrayal to the point she views men as disposable playthings that she can lure back to her hut, have her way with, and then… murder? I think? (Based on Morrigan’s own account in DAO)
-Abused her daughter under the guise of tough love in an attempt to prepare her for a cruel uncaring world. (Again, Morrigan’s account, DAO)
-Says during her appearance in Inquisition that she will have her reckoning.
-Spent centuries consolidating her power as well as cycling through different human women’s bodies via questionable means for the sake of bringing about said reckoning. (“I have carried Mythal through the ages ever since, seeking the justice denied to her.” and about the Inquisitor: “A Herald indeed. Shouting to the heavens, harbinger of a new age.” - DAI)
-During her scene with Solas at the end of Inquisition does NOT say ANYTHING about disagreeing with Solas’s plans, just that she considers him and old friend and is sorry things are going the way they are. (Seriously, is the dialogue in that regret scene in Veilguard supposed to be from a mental connection they had? Because that dialogue just isn’t in the Inquisition scene.)
And I’m supposed to believe that in her last moments, Flemythal backed off and went “actually I think we need to maintain the status quo”????
None of this paints a picture of someone who has gone soft over time. At least not to the degree that is presented in that regret scene in Veilguard. Sure Flemeth wasn’t all bad, she had some tenderness to her. She shows some genuine care for Morrigan and Kieran (if present) and seems hurt when Morrigan implies she was trying not to be the kind of mother Flemeth was to her.
At the end of Inquisition, we can’t tell for certain to what degree she approves of Solas’s methods. But it seems like a step in said methods was to absorb her power and doom her, an embodiment of Justice, to take a passive role once more. And we know what happens when a spirit is denied its purpose. Justice denied its purpose could turn to Vengeance. Which, to me, feels like it would better echo the themes of Solas’s pride/wisdom duality, inquisition’s themes around what it means to become a god-like force of nature, DA2’s question of whether violence is necessary for revolution (which literally has the Justice/Vengeance duality in it with Anders), and DAO’s theme of sacrifice for the greater good.

My friends always tease me for defending murder when I say this but I genuinely think it's relevant that the setting (both the world at large and the specific period of conflict much of the story covers) of MDZS has a much higher baseline of violence than our own. Purposeful combat (with intent to kill or injure), corporal punishment, and killing of others are all more normalised to the characters than to us in the 21st century
Which is just to say that JGY's various crimes really should be interpreted within the framework of how his world worked, and in essence killing his commander is not equivalent in severity to killing his assistant branch manager would be in a modern AU
Which is to say, I honestly don't believe JGY would really consider murder to be an option in any regular old modern AU? Like both from a logistical and a moral perspective

WAITTT how about after what happen in that drabble. Reader decorated lighter’s body with stickers. Like his chest, arms, back or every part of his body is covered with STICKERS
OH and also the ribbons around his biceps 🥹🥹 reader even tie small bows on his fingers.
thats enough lighter yap for today 💕
sometimes, they sell really cute bandages at jc pharmacy in lumina square. while shopping for the girls with lighter, you decided to pick those up too, mainly just because they're cute. while lighter does some extra shopping, you decided to look at the stationery section. seeing all of the different sticker designs, animals, bangboos, galaxy, etc. a certain idea pops into your head.
after being able to convince him to let you tie a bow around his bicep, he was basically a flustered mess to even stop you from doing anything more. so while he was playing with the ribbon in his fingers, you seized the opportunity by placing a sticker right on the edge of his shoulder scar.
"and what's this?" his other hand went to feel the little bandage you placed on him. for how large his scar is, something this small would never be able to patch it up.
“it’s cute, and you seem like you need it,” you chirped, carefully peeling off a sticker from its backing and placing it on his chest. he didn’t need a bandage, his scar was healed somewhat, but the feel of your fingers on his skin sent shivers down his spine.
he’s the red scarf of the sons of calydon and he’s letting you place cat stickers on him like it was nothing. “i’m not some sort of cutie you can just, decorate whenever you like,” he protested but didn’t even make an effort to remove them from his body. he doesn’t want to seem like a softie, this was ruining his cool guy personality.
you didn’t really mind what he had to say, still continuing to stick bangboos on him now. if you weren’t going to stop, at the very least he could seem a little more angry (he can’t get angry at you doing something so silly). with a cross of his arms and his head turned, he effectively stopped you from placing anymore on his body.
however, he just opened himself up to even more opportunities. a quick little kiss on his cheek then a sticker to seal it in place had him staring wide eyed at you. he didn’t really think you would be THAT bold but the blush on your cheeks made it obvious to him that you were just as flustered by your own actions as him.
the red on his face was double yours though and he’d try to say something about it but it just comes out as stutters and half completed sentences. he loosens up, pushing up his sunglasses. if he’s getting your affection in such a… stupidly silly but cute way, maybe it’s not so bad to be covered in stickers and bandages…
