I wanted to reference the silm for a fic but my copy was at home, so I looked up a pdf, and one of the top results was for google books, with THIS as the cover

Like, obviously ai generated. The ears are clipped and the crowns appear to be growing out of their hair. There appears to be a publishing house logo but it's a keysmash. But my real question is WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE????

They appear to be men. Makes sense, most of the characters are. Why are they tenderly embracing on the Google Books cover art then. Next question, whomst?? I don't think that there are any brunette Elves mentioned...ever. Maybe this is one of the ginger neri? So...Maedhros, Amrod, or Amras? But why are they embracing a silver haired nér? The only silver haired elf noted as probably being taller than Maedhros is Thingol which. Wow. Yeah. That would be a choice (ah yes my third favorite crackship -) They could be potentially any Sinda ig. And arguably the brunette could be any elf whose hair color was not explicitly mentioned. Still, I'm having a hard time coming up with a plausible ship that they could be.

I don't know. Maybe the ai promt was told to make an elven couple embracing and created 2 men bc again most of the characters are men so that's what the image data it's scraping will be mostly showing. Maybe that's supposed to be Melian and Thingol (still wild for them to be cover art)(still wild for ANY ship to be cover art. Romance is not the point of this book)

I know that this is just ai shlock and it hallucinated some vaguely elven characters and that I shouldn't be thinking so much about it but I just can't stop. Who are they. Why are they there. Nonexistent yaoi google books Silmarillion cover art my befuddled I will never forget you.

Anyway my best theory is that it's Elrond and Gil-Galad. That's not how I picture either of them but it's the closest ship I can think of. Possibly Beleg and Mablung but I don't think they'd get cover art prestige unfortunately. Sound off on yalls theories?

i’ve tried imagining yakuza boss gojo satoru before and i’ve even talked about it briefly here and there but for some reason i just can’t fully see him as the typical cold, commanding boss. in my head he’s not the hardened leader type. he’s more like the reluctant heir — the one born into legacy, burdened by it but doing everything he can to avoid being part of that world

he’s the infamous gojo heir who doesn’t take anything seriously. the one who gets sent abroad to straighten him out, study and gain discipline… but comes back just as irreverent. he skips meetings, ignores traditions, blows off family obligations. if he happens to show up it’s usually with sunglasses on and some out of pocket comments that send the elders into a quiet rage. his entire personality seems designed to reject everything the family represents

then . like something out of textbook he’s hit with an arranged marriage. something political, a merger, not a match. the daughter of another powerful family chosen to secure alliance and status in the chaotic underworld they operate in. satoru ofc wants no part of it — he dodges introductions, misses family dinners, sabotages any attempt to formally meet you

until one day he sees you . and that’s the moment things shift for him

bc you’re not impressed by him AT ALL . you’re poised and distant, not interested in entertaining his antics. unlike him you don’t have the privilege of rebellion, you don’t get to be unserious. you’ve been raised to fulfill a role and you’re just quietly preparing yourself to become someone’s wife for the sake of family

and for the first time satoru starts to wonder what it would mean to grow into the role he’s been avoiding all his life. not for power nor for duty but bc it might be the only way he earns a place beside you. he’s very much interested in you

suddenly he’s showing up to meetings, speaking in ways that make the elders exchange glances and not bc he’s changed — he’s still gojo satoru, still reckless and cocky — but now there’s purpose in it. now he want you to take him seriously . . .

Definitely not the last time I’m going to talk about this but the relationship that Holmes has to Watson’s writing is so so interesting to me.

He obviously loves the attention to some extent, (Holmes’ relationship with attention seeking is a whole bag of worms) but in addition to his obvious gripes about the way in which Watson writes (tales rather than lectures etc, etc) he seems to have complex feelings on how much they focus on him.

Post retirement Holmes says he wants to reject notoriety altogether, implying that he only allowed Watson to help him gain it because it would be of professional value to him. While I’m not sure I fully believe him there, I can definitely see how that would be the easiest way for him to rationalize the stories and their popularity. But still, this is the same blushing sensitive to flattery Holmes who is constantly putting on a show for Watson and by extension his readers.

Even if Holmes is embarrassed by it, he enjoys it. Full stop. But he also hates it. And there are definitely a bunch of different reasons why he could dislike the stories, but I think the most obvious reason is that Watson can’t seem to decide weather to idolize or humanize him. Holmes dislikes that Watson doesn’t include many of his failures while at the same time hating when his magic tricks are explained. And maybe thats unfair of him, he can’t have it both ways, but if he can’t then why can Watson?

I also can’t help but think about all the times where Watson describes Holmes as cold, machine like, etc. I’m not sure how Holmes feels about that in canon (if he refers to it at some point let me know) but I know that when people have described me in similar ways it really fucking hurt. At the same time it’s tempting to take pride in it, an insult that becomes a complement if you lock enough parts of yourself away.

IDK like I said I’m not done talking about this just wanted to ramble for a second.
