When you first called him sweetface, it was in his cabin, while you both were resting by the fire, he had been sharpening his machete, and froze up.

His shoulders tightened and he looked down at you, tensed like a snake ready to strike.

Though he would never do such a thing.

Finally after a long silence which stretched out around you both, the only noise your soft breathing and the crackling of the fire, he tilted his head.

It was as just about clear a response as you could get out of the mute killer, 'What?'

So when you giggled and spoke again "I said, come here sweetface!" He slowly scooted closer, before quick as can be, he scooped you up into his arms, pulling you into his lap, and burying his face in your shoulder.

He didn't understand why his heart raced so much, or really why you would call a monster like him such a loving nickname, but he couldn't say he minded. The feeling of warmth blooming in his long dead chest made every moment worth it.

Micheal Myers

You had been sitting with Micheal in the living room of the old Myers house, watching some shitty horror film on the old TV set when you glanced up at him, a smile forming on your face before you leaned on him

"I love you, Sweetface"

Were the words that escaped your lips, a soft smile playing on your face as you gazed up at him. You had been with Micheal for a couple of years now, and every moment felt like a dream to you.

Micheal froze, tensing slightly as he gazed down at you through the mask he always wore, his ice blue eyes peircing into your own eyes.

But slowly, almost hesitantly, he relaxed, draping an arm around you, his fingers massaging your scalp in a shockingly gentle manner for one known for his brutality.

Thomas Hewitt

You had been sitting with Thomas in the barn, one hot Texas summers day. Thomas was working nearby, focused on the work that needed finished before sundown. When you broke his focus, just a simple phrase

"Tommy, Sweetface, why don't you take a break? You've been working all day!"

He paused his movements, slowly turning and striding over to where he towered over you, looking down at you, head slightly cocked to the side as he waited for you to repeat yourself.

So you did, smiling up at him and repreating the wordsthat had shaken him out of his work filled stupor

"tommy Sweetface, you should take a break, you've been working since sun up"

You said, gently, for fear of his reaction.

But much to your surprise, he simply nodded, reaching one arm out and wrapping it around your waist, tossing you over his shoulder and making his way to the porch.

That's where he sat, settling you onto his leg while his hands began to slowly rub your back, seemingly an apology for having you out in the hot sun all day.

You could get used to this

Brahms Heelshire

You had just finished preparing dinner and setting the table, noticing the distinct lack of Brahms, who usually had already come down drawn by the scent of food you called up

"Sweetface! Dinners ready!"

Then came the familiar sounds of Brahms making his way downstairs, albeit faster than usual.

But instead of sitting at the table he walked up to you, his hands finding your cheeks and lifting your face to look at him, head tilted to the side as he speaks, low and measured

"what?"

It's clear what he is asking about, you had called him sweetface, so with a smile you reach up, ruffling his hair

"I said, Sweetface, dinners ready"

He paused, either shocked by you repeating it, or by the confirmation that you did infact call him sweetface before he leaned down, wrapping you in a tight hug, burying his face in your neck and muttering

"good"

Hello! I'm so glad you're enjoying the shows. I also really love sibling relationships in drama, so I am happy to share a list of shows I think have interesting sibling dynamics. Please note that this list is by no means every BL with a sibling character; instead it's the ones where I found the sibling relationship compelling, important to the narrative (beyond basic plot set up), and overall worth watching.

I hope you'll like some of these! In no particular order:

Bad Buddy

You've already found Pat and Pa, a great brother-sister duo who watch out for each other even as they annoy the hell out of each other as only siblings can. Their bond is one of the most important through lines of the story.

La Pluie

In La Pluie our main character has several siblings, but his closest and most important sibling relationship is with his next age brother Tien. This one is more a case of one brother watching out for the other relentlessly while the other needs to learn to return the favor.

Unknown 

The sibling dynamics in this one are complex, to say the least, as this found family goes through a lot of trials and tribulations figuring out their relationships. But the bond between the three members of this little family always hold firm no matter what else is happening.

Our Dining Table

This story of a lonely man bonding with two brothers through their love of food is one of my all time favorites, and the siblings are possibly the most endearing characters of all time.

Heesu in Class 2

The titular Heesu lives with his three older sisters, all of whom have their interesting quirks, and his relationships with them are hugely important to who he is and how he sees the world. This show really captured the vibe of a young boy raised by sisters perfectly.

I Cannot Reach You

Yamato's sister is one of the most important characters in this drama, as she sees and understands everything going on between her brother and his best friend and knows exactly when and how to nudge them in the right direction. She's also just really cool.

I Told Sunset About You

Teh's older brother Hoon is an important sounding board and support for him, and he appears at some crucial moments of the narrative to help his little brother figure himself out. Their relationship is touching without being overdramatized; Hoon feels exactly like a decent big brother who loves Teh but has his own life to deal with.

To Sir, With Love

Are Tian and Yang the best brother duo of all time?? Perhaps! Their unwavering love and support for each other--despite many people trying to pit them against each other--is one of the most touching aspects of this story.

The Untamed

And of course, we can't forget the Yunmeng Trio, iconic siblings whose love for each other was not ultimately enough to overcome their circumstances. They’re not the only siblings in this show but they’re the most important to the story. By far the most tragic siblings on this list.

And of course I have favorite kisses. I love a good kiss. In my definition of a good kiss, it doesn't need to be the perfect angle or the perfect "lip-touching", I don't know, people rate such scenes differently. For me it is more about the emotions I could feel during that kiss, the build-up or if there is a special detail that really catches my breath. I guess you'll understand, what I mean when you see my choices.

This is not a ranking! It is in alphabetical order, not just because I don't want to rank them, but because I am lazy.

Bad Buddy

The iconic rooftop kiss. The whole build-up was perfect. The tears? The first short kiss followed by this gorgeous kiss filled with all the emotions one person can feel? What is not to like about this kiss!?

Be My Favorite

I was very protective of these two and especially Krist. People were saying, he can't kiss other man because he is homophobic and what is this then? Yes, I remember Sotus. The kisses were.. not good, but I gave Be My Favorite a chance and this kiss was so soft and so full of love and tenderness. I really enjoyed this whole scene a lot! And Kris can kiss.

Boys Be Brave!

This kiss came as a big surprise for me. It is Jinwoo trying to hide from Kisub and the letter finding him what leads to this quiet and beautiful first kiss. I loved everything about it!

Ghost Host, Ghost House

All of there kisses were so good! But I loved the teasing and the chasing in this scene especially. Those two have incredible good chemistry and I wish we could see more of them.

History 3: Make Our Days Count

Oh the desperation for each other was so real in this one. Both wanted each other so bad! But what I loved the most about this whole scene was the way how Sun Bo Xiang reassured Lu Zhi Gang that he desired all of him. So good!

I Feel You Linger In The Air

The most painful and saddest kiss in bl-history! It is such a wonderful scene. Everything about it made me cry and smile at the same time. Gorgeous scene!

Jack and Joker

They finally confessed and kissed for the first time. And what a kiss this was! It left the most of us speechless and a little bit breathless. The way Jack stopped the kiss in the middle to calm Joke down a little bit and they started the kiss again so fucking tender and argh! I love it so much!!!

Love Class 2

Love Class 2 has some really good kisses, but this one was something else! It is one of the softest kisses ever. I don't know how many times I have rewatched this whole scene. Just look at them. You can feel the softness of this kiss! And there were sounds during that scene... they were something else.

Love For Love's Sake

I really didn't expect that kiss at the end of this series. I hoped for a tight hug, but hello? Those two and the script kept delivering until the very end. This was pure perfection.

Love Mechanics

Yeah, well... perhaps I am just a sucker for YinWar kissing... I don't know. But every time I see this kiss I want to live in this scene forever and I would be perfectly fine. I am just sitting here, wanting to write about this kiss and I stared at it for an unhealthy period of time and forgot everything else. That is really bad. I love that kiss so much!

My Stand-In

They had some good kisses. This was not one of them, but this specific moment, when Joe gave in to the kiss, I was blown away. He really didn't want to like this kiss, but his heart still wanted it. The emotions!

My Tooth Your Love

Every once in a while there are these cute and small kisses, so ordinary and overlooked. I think these are very important to portrait a good and real relationship. Because kisses don't need to be these big moments in slow-motion and with different angles. Yes, those are nice, but I really adore those "small" ones that show the love between the characters.

Perfect Propose

The reason I picked this scene is because of the build-up. Hirokuni asked Kai not to call him Hiro, but Kai just ignored him and breathed Hiro and followed with this passionate kiss and I was just in awe.

Sing My Crush

I was absolutely not expecting this kiss! I thought we got this dead-fish-kiss and that would be it. I would have love the series nevertheless, but this scene? Damn, Korea! Such a good kiss!

The Heart Killers

I don't think those two are the best kissers in the industry. I think they have some good chemistry without a doubt. But this kiss. This moment here. It was everything for me. I can feel Style's hand on Fadel's head. I can feel it. And I love it! I am not normal about this scene! Everything about these few seconds brings me so much joy. The look on Fadel's face, the hand and everything that happend before and followed afterwards.

The Day I Loved You

This is still one of my favorite rooftop-kisses. For me it is the way they grab each other to pull the other one close. The way they want to crawl into each other, to feel the other person everywhere. Such a perfect first kiss! Such a perfect scene.

To My Star 2

I love these small kisses. I name them "A thousand little kisses". Those kisses make me smile and so happy! There is nothing more to say about it. I love them. To My Star is just an example for many other shows out there with these little kisses.

I loved this whole scene. But this segment of the kiss, this little dance of them, is so good. I can't tell you how many times I just watched this specific scene. How easy Yuan maneuvered Qian around to close the door. How they kept kissing. I... I... nope. There are no words in my head anymore.

Not personally! I can see burning spice having an interest in golden cheese in the same way all the beasts obsess over their respective ancients, but I just cannot ever see GC returning those feelings whatsoever. She has zero respect for him in my mind

So I guess if you count one-sided then yeah, but I don't even really see it as pining tbh. He just wants her to kick his ass

When you think about it it’s suuuuper sneaky and cruel from Robo Sonic to trick Amy like that, considering that at the very beginning (if I remember correctly), in issue 1 when Sonic was only partly robot, there was a tiny little moment when Amy did reach him for a second and confusion came through his programming. Also he really knows how to mess with her and her feelings - I swear, each page he seems more and more like our Sonic but evil version.

Also I love how we still more on the humour side (especially after introspective part of issue 2, I LOVED IT WITH MY WHOLE HEART but like I said before, it’s great how SBR is balancing dark and humour, honestly the whole theme of Sonic being turned to robot is dark enough and you make sure we know it but don’t overwhelm us with angst). I think motif of the hunt for Sonic’s teammates has a lot of potential for situational comedy. not super related, but I can’t stop thinking about that one scene from Sonic Boom where Sonic goes “did you really think escape would be that easy” - I remember watching that episode for the first time and genuinely not knowing if he’s joking or not, and the whole scene of their fight in that episode made me thinking (not for the first time ofc) how unstoppable Sonic would be as villain and I love that SBr somehow explore that idea~ And it occurred to me how people often think of Sonic Boom as just comedy and fun - and yes, it is a sitcom and the rules of the world building are adapted to the genre, but hello- it is the only Sonic’s piece of media yet where Sonic is actually hypnotised?? Where Tails (mind and body) is actually turned into robot?? Where Sonic has a real mental breakdown about saving people, where Sonic is captured by the psycho fan- literally the list goes on. And honestly Boom!Eggman did many truly evil things, just because they were reduced to joke because of convention doesn’t make them less evil).

That being said, I still think that closer to the end of issue 3 vibe will get darker again and more angsty and honestly, even after everything I said about comedy aspect, I can’t wait for the drama as well! I trust your abilities fully and can’t wait for what you cooked for us!

(Also, i went back to previous pages to check that one scene i mentioned before. And going back to issue 1 - which was fantastic - I can’t notice how BIG progress you made in drawing and colouring, it’s incredible!)

Ahhh, asks like this makes me so emotional! It makes me incredibly happy to know how much you enjoy our dark storytelling in Boom's World. You're absolutely right that it tends to go to some pretty crazy places thanks to it's episodic/sitcom nature which have definitely helped inspire a lot of the stories we are telling and want to tell (It's not called "Revisited" for nothing)!

I'm happy my growth is visible. 😭 It's kinda crazy to me what I've been able to accomplish in a year. Especially since before this comic I didn't do much (if any) background work. I will say, though, while I (Multi) colored Issue 1, @star-stages has been in charge of colors since Issue 2!

AHHH first of all—thank you so much for the love on ”Afterglow”!! This is such a fun ask, and I’m honestly so happy someone’s curious enough about something to dive into it with me.

You’re feeding my writer ego. I hope you’re proud of yourself.

So! Let’s talk canon real quick (I’m letting out my inner nerd rn):

In the comics, Mark starts out at 17 years old, but he ages pretty fast—and by the midpoint (around where ”Afterglow” would be happening, give or take), he’s roughly 19–20 , depending on how closely you track the arcs.

He’s been through it (emotionally unwell, physically worse), and is already working full-time with Cecil, so we’re definitely not dealing with “freshman bio class” energy anymore.

The man is seasoned. In trauma.

If we were going by the animated series, though—it’s a little fuzzier.

Season two makes it clear he’s just recently turned 18, so if you’re seeing ”Afterglow” through a show-only lens, Reader might come off as a bit older. But that’s kind of the fun of it, right?

Different interpretations work depending on what canon you’re leaning into. Especially since she’s employed, competent, and not trying to flirt while holding a scalpel backwards.

(Unlike a certain someone in goggles.)

Also! In ”Afterglow”, Mark is still wearing that iconic yellow-blue disaster suit, which firmly locks the timeline into late Season 2-ish // early Season 3 vibes if we were following the showverse.

As for Reader? Yes—I do personally imagine her to be a bit older. Not by decades or anything, but enough to feel the difference. Maybe 21–23ish, depending on how chaotic and accelerated you want her backstory to be.

Either she’s a prodigy who skipped grades and sprinted into the trauma field, or she’s just a few years older with a no-nonsense attitude and a résumé that could legally intimidate a superhero.

She’s sharp, capable, and absolutely not here to babysit—which just makes Mark being utterly down bad for her even funnier.

Regardless, I love the dynamic of “older, exhausted professional woman” × “younger, slightly feral man with devotion issues.”

BUT! While ”Afterglow” is loosely grounded in comic canon (especially in tone and timeline), it’s very much doing its own thing. The plot, pacing, and character dynamics all live in their own little sandbox. Nothing’s rigid. It’s vibes first, logic second. As it should be.

Okay, here me out, yandere priest to a cult that's not really a cult, but some multi level marketing scheme.

Tw. for age gap, financial abuse, and religious themes

He's less motivated by faith than he is his own greed. He loves living in luxury scoffs at the notion that he should be more humble. He worms his way into a quaint, suburban neighborhood slowly but surely over several years and drips in bits and pieces of information about a company that's just guaranteed to make you money.

You get to work from home! Be your own boss! And the products themselves work miracles!

Yandere Priest who is calm, charismatic, suave, and oh so charming. Most of the flock he tends to don't even realize he's scamming them out of their life's savings. They're all just far too dumb to even think of him in a negative light.

You and your mom moved to the neighborhood after finally managing to improve your financial situation. You were enrolled in a local community college and had several low paying jobs along with your mother, and the two of you lived frugally until you could afford enough to live in a nicer part of town than the one you had been stuck in your entire life.

The two of you are welcomed warmly by the church, the community, and yandere priest. Your mom is happy to have found such a nice place to live, and she's instantly enticed by the promises of making money through joining the congregation. She gets a bit of success through it at first, and soon she's hooked.

You however, don't buy it one bit.

Yandere priest is intrigued by you. While your mother begins to zealously preach the word of the bible and the word of his money, you seem to have an inherent distrust for him. It makes sense, he thinks. He essentially just views your little family as another wallet in his collection. Still, as much as he understands you, a poor little lamb who wasn't joined his flock yet, he can't let you roam free lest you lead others astray.

It's then he really starts to lay the charm on thick. You remain unconvinced despite the fact that he begins to visit your home often (It's an honor by the way. Your mother knows her place. She graciously welcomes him in and shouts at you when you don't show him respect.), and he catches you scowling at him when you think no one is looking.

You're just so frustrating to him. At first you were like a little challenge to beat, something that he had to work to get for once, but you're proving to be a true pain in the neck. You cats doubt on his name to anyone who'll listen, argue with your mom and try to get her to quit his church often, and he's even caught you trying to snoop around in some financial documents of others around the neighborhood. He begins to think of you as less of a lamb and more of a vixen.

It doesn't help that you're pretty and cute. You're a young faced, rebellious spit fire who calls him out like no one has before, and even though he grits his teeth every time you glare at him, he can't help but love it.

For the first time in a life, he actually has someone he would even deign to call an equal.

Just like with all the money he's sucked out of these poor people, he didn't care that you're practically half his age, or that he could ruin your life with a few words. No, all he wanted was for you to finally just give up, to just set aside your pride and let him win.

All the while, your mother has been changing. She was once a sweet if not ditzy woman who would do anything to protect her child, though now she was wrapped up in the same greed that had been running through this neighborhood since he sunk his teeth in it. Your finances had been depleted despite the fact that she insisted that the church's company was legitimate and making good money. While the two of you had been close, she would yell at you for anything that went out of line from what the church and Yandere priest preached.

You were losing your mother, your community, your hope. If this habit of her spending all of your money on the church continued, soon you were worried that you wouldn't be able to pay for the house or your tuition. You were desperate to get your life back in order, and who but him would be there with a single, honeyed option left for you?

Yandere priest was certain that if he bled you dry just a little longer, you'd eventually accept his oh so gracious offer and finally fall into his hands.

Unsafe breathplay practices w/ no on screen negotiated consent, a little bit of threatening, Swiss is a brat, brief trans masc Dew moment, I tried to keep this short

His grin hadn’t budged when his knees first hit the floor. Just a thin layer of carpet over a slab of unforgiving concrete, the initial ache in his joints was nothing yet. The hand that had forced him there found its way into his hair, unkind and uncaring fingers twisted up in his locs only to tug hard enough to thump his skull against the wall of the dressing room. Only then did his smile falter.

Swiss had tried to knock Dew away but the little ghoul had a surprisingly solid death grip when he wanted to. Grabbed his wrist like he sought to snap it, holding that much tighter when Swiss instinctively attempted to pull away. Nails bit into him leaving the warning of crescents deep in his skin until Swiss got smart enough to let his arm go limp and Dew threw it uselessly into his lap.

“And that’s the whole problem, that’s your whole problem.” With a flourish, his belt finally came loose. He ripped it from the loops of his pants with his free hand, the leather cracking with the motion. Such a sharp sound it almost had Swiss wincing. “There are never any consequences. You’ve never had to deal with the repercussions for all the stupid shit you do and it’s made you nothing but a spoiled fucking brat.”

Dew finally released his hair but not before bracketing him closer to the wall. In one quick motion he slipped the leather around his neck and threaded it through the buckle. Pulled it nauseatingly tight with a grunt. It dug into his skin like it might just rip through, pressed down on his Adam’s apple with the intensity of a scorned lover. For a split second, Swiss simply chuckled, but the belt only got tighter. Tight enough Swiss’ eyes went wide, hands flying to claw at the leather with a slowly festering panic.

It was Dew’s turn to grin. Such a wicked little expression complete with danger glinting in the ember like glow of his eyes, one that put Swiss’ own to shame. A wordless answer to Swiss’ anxious disbelief - deadly serious in his intent.

“Now, that’s much better. I think I like you better quiet.” He cooed, slowly wrapping the belt around his white knuckles.

“What—“ Swiss started with a wheeze. “What the fuck are you doing?!”

”I’m helping!” He tugged at the makeshift leash forcing Swiss up onto his knees to try to ease some of the pressure off his throat. If his windpipe weren’t being squeezed he’d have yelped. “And we’re gonna find a better use for your mouth while we’re at it.”

Dew popped his fly and hooked his thumb into his waistband. He yanked both his pants and boxers down his thighs, watching Swiss’ eyes follow the movement of his hand with a wary sort of fixation. Watched how he drifted through a soft bed of curls until he reached the jut of his chubby little clit, framing it between the vee of his fingers, parting his folds slightly. The heady scent of incense and arousal made Swiss lightheaded, though maybe it was also because of the belt cutting off his air supply, truly it was anyone’s guess.

What are your favorite examples of deep unbridled yearning in a bl? I think my is I told the sunset about you the way they used the coconut smell to showcase one the leads feelings for the other was so unique and sensual. He starts out hating coconut and how it smells but slowly as he falls in love he becomes obsessed with it since it's the other MLs unique scent and he uses it on everything, so we get a scene of him inhaling a paper written by the MLs coconut pen and then another one just devouring a coconut like it's the best thing in earth. I don't think I have ever seen such a depiction of attraction/love/lust that's so different but also visceral and beautiful and it really stuck with me. It's very different but it's one of the rare romance things that I'll never forget akin to the hand flex from pride and prejudice.

There’s a lot of good yearning in the romance genre, and plenty of bls feature it. The example you gave from ITSAY is definitely one of the standouts in terms of how visceral it felt. I will never forget Teh shoving his whole face into that coconut, or all the super charged scenes where he and Oh-aew stare at and touch each other and keep testing boundaries until they break.

There are definitely other expressions of yearning that stick out for me for one reason or another, and not all in this same tone.

The Untamed

Let’s get this out of the way upfront, because no one can step to this man on yearning. He adopted a whole child and named him after his yearning for his lost love. What I love about the presentation of Lan Wangji's particular flavor of yearning is how steady and matter of fact it is. He is always yearning for Wei Wuxian and it's just a part of who he is, whether his love is alive or dead. And while I love that Teh is such a big mess of emotions, I also like this more understated flavor of yearning where nothing is ever said out loud but Lan Wangji's feelings are clear in how he chooses to live his life. He's the poster boy for "actions speak louder than words."

Eternal Yesterday

I'm not sure if you've seen this one, but it's one of the most poignant and devastating depictions of yearning I have ever seen. Mitsuru yearned for Koichi so hard that he kept his body alive for precious extra days and his memory alive forever. Brb gonna go cry.

Utsukushii Kare 2

This is probably one of the more unique expressions of the emotion (on brand for this series), since this sequel season has Kiyoi yearning for the man who is already his boyfriend to love him for real instead of idolizing and holding him from a distance. It's one of my favorite explorations of how lonely we can feel even while in a relationship.

I Cannot Reach You

This show wins for best visual effects to convey yearning, with a beautiful bokeh effect taking over the screen in moments when the characters were extra in their feelings over each other.

Wei Yuan's yearning was more of the desperate and hopeless variety, especially in his teens years when he knew his feelings for his adoptive older brother were impossible. I liked that his feelings were expressed via caretaking; he didn't think he could have the relationship he really wanted with Wei Qian, so he made it his mission to take care of him and help shoulder his burdens instead.

I Feel You Linger in the Air

This story stands out in my memory for its dedication to anticipatory yearning. That is, knowing a separation is coming against your will and yearning desperately for the person who is still in front of you. Yai and Jom did not want to let each other go despite knowing they could not stay together, and that yearning was so strong it ultimately connected them through time.

Theory of Love

And on the comedic end of the spectrum, I absolutely cannot end this list without giving a shoutout to one of the funniest manifestations of yearning that has ever graced my screen. Every time his feelings for Khai got overwhelming, Third ran to the bathroom for a Sadness Shower, and if the water wasn't working he was happy to improvise (and now I am cackling).
