summary: ever since escaping the Red Room, you’ve been on the run. what happens when an annoying red-head from the past comes back into your life, accompanied by the one girl you were never able to outsmart…?
pairing: Natasha & Yelena x teen reader
warnings: guns, fighting, cursing
genre: fluff, angst
words: 1596
a/n: thunderbolts got into my head… I’m entirely back in my Black Widow era
You do not have my permission to repost, copy or translate my work
|——————————— ⴵ ———————————|
The door nearly rattled off the hinges when you slammed it shut. The beat down ‘apartment’ you were staying in was barely holding on. The wallpaper was peeling, every time it rained the kitchen got wet, and there were multiple unexplainable stains in the bathroom.
It wasn’t perfect, but at least it was safe.
You escaped the Red Room close to a year ago, and you’ve never been more free than you are now. Sure, you occasionally have to move to avoid detection, and Dreykov has sent more than a few dozen widows after you, but still. For the first time in your life, your choices are your own.
You used to never even consider escaping. The Red Room was your home. You had a place, a purpose. Everything was the way it was supposed to be.
Then she came along.
Natasha Romanoff. Dreykov’s pride and joy. The best assassin the Red Room had seen in years. Of course, that was before you came along.
Dreykov wanted Natasha to train you. He wanted you to shadow her, pick up her traits. He put you two in a separate room, away from the dormitories. You didn’t need to be your own person, you just needed to be the perfect copy of her.
And you hated her for it.
You were strong. You were quick. You were immensely skilled for your age, yet he felt the need to compare you to her. You were perfect the way you were, but he didn’t see it that way.
And, despite your absolute disgust, her mannerisms did rub off on you.
You became more efficient in your fighting, pushing your body to its limits every single day while Natasha pushed you even further. You were getting stronger, and Dreykov loved it.
But then, suddenly, she started talking about escaping.
You don’t know when she changed, but she did. Suddenly, all she could talk about was getting away. Running from Dreykov and leaving the Red Room behind.
You couldn’t believe what she was saying.
She was talking about treason. Actual treason, and you couldn’t just stand there and let it happen.
You didn’t want to, but you did.
You went to Dreykov, desperate for his approval and needy for his praise. You ratted her out.
Dreykov believed you immediately, and praise you got. Natasha was taken, punished severely, probably. You didn’t see her again after that, but you heard the rumours that she had undergone the graduation ceremony shortly after you snitched on her.
Now, looking back, you realised she got the right idea back then.
After your own graduation ceremony, you completed a total of twelve missions before you went on the run yourself.
Natasha Romanoff was one of the only two girls from the Red Room you would never forget.
There was another. A girl you were put with when you were thirteen. A blonde, who was labeled the best child assassin.
You, of course, loathed her even more than you did Natasha. You were the best child assassin. You had been for years and years on end. You had the highest successful kill count under ten, and you had more successful missions than any of the other girls in the history of the Red Room. You were the best, so why was this stupid blonde girl claiming she was?
You fought her, of course. A lot.
Every time you spotted her in a hallway, you’d lure her out. You’d throw insults her way, talking about her time on a mission in Ohio. You knew it hurt her. Good. Every time it would result in a fight, that you’d win, and every time the blonde girl would be punished.
What good is an assassin that can be tempted to a fight by a mere handful of words?
You last saw her during a mission in Hungary. You two were sent to retrieve a vial that was some sort of antidote to something. You didn’t know what. You didn’t ask.
You went on the mission with Belova, but when you returned, she wasn’t there.
You didn’t ask.
That was nearly a year and a half ago. You later found out that most of the widows were under a special serum. Mind control. Belova had been under it too. When you two were sent to retrieve the antidote from a rogue widow, that had been the antidote against the mind control.
You didn’t know why Dreykov hadn’t put you under the mind control, when he had clearly used it on Belova and the other widows.
You didn’t feel like sticking around to wait and have it used on you.
So you ran.
Currently, you were in Sweden. A wonderful country, with the best perk, that it had a lot of nature. It would be easy to kill someone in the woods, and no one would ever find the body.
You figured Dreykov and his widows would have a hard time finding you here.
You were staying in a trailer, one that that pisshat told you would be an apartment. Apparently he gave the apartment in Budapest to someone else already. Why the hell were you paying him when he continued to do such a shitty job?
You kicked off your shoes, throwing your bag on the worn down couch while you walked, or rather stepped, into the kitchen.
The trailer truly wasn’t large enough to walk in.
The moment you turned on the faucet, you stilled. A floorboard creaked behind you. Someone was here.
Slowly, you reached for your gun, letting the water run and pretending to be busy. They didn’t know you were aware of their presence yet.
You held your gun in front of you, hiding it from whoever stood behind you.
Then, another step. Another creak.
You whipped around, hitting the person behind you. They were holding a gun. You hit it from her hands.
You were able to see a mere blur of red before a person slammed into you from behind. Fuck. There were two of them.
You whirled around, kicking the girl behind you.
Double fuck. Two girls. They must be widows here to take you back.
You raised your gun, ready to shoot at them, before you realised who the girl in front of you was.
Fucking Belova.
You turned around, facing the redhead.
Natasha fucking Romanoff.
She raised her hand, spraying something in your face, making your eyes sting.
“What the fuck!” you yelled. “I just got this jacket!”
Natasha frowned. Belova chuckled humourlessly.
“You aren’t under mind control…?” Natasha asked.
“Of course you aren’t,” Belova said from behind you.
You scoffed. “Yeah, well, unlike you, I was actually important.”
“Now, what the fuck are you two doing here?! And how do you even know each other?” you added after taking a breath.
This time, Natasha frowned.
“You know Yelena?”
You turned to Belova, catching her scowl. “I didn’t know you were named Yelena. But of course I know. The girl with the temper,” you smirked.
Yelena scoffed.
“I didn’t have a temper. You were just a bitch.”
You shrugged. “Potato potato.”
“You were the girl always picking fights?” Natasha concluded, to which you nod.
“Yeah, points to sherlock.”
Then you smirked, the puzzle pieces finally all falling into place.
You pointed at Yelena, then at Natasha. “She was the girl with you on the Ohio mission. The reason you always got so pissed and started hitting me.”
The moment you said it, Yelena’s face contorted into anger.
“You shut your mouth over that. You were the one always picking fights with me.”
You shrugged. “I was just trying to make you resilient. You always lost your temper far too quickly.”
“Okay, stop it,” Natasha said, stopping you and Yelena from arguing. “This isn’t going to do anything right now. Why are you here, and why aren’t you under mind control?”
“And why are you living in this dump? Surely there are better places available,” Yelena added.
You sighed. “I’m not a disposable widow, hence no mind control. And about a year ago I figured I was done with killing, so I ran. And the reason that I’m living in this dump is cause Mason gave my apartment to some other bitch.”
“The apartment in Budapest?” Natasha asks.
“Uh, yeah,” you confirm, confused as to why she knows it.
“The other bitch who got that apartment was me,” Yelena reveals, to which you just shrug.
“Statement still stands.”
“Well, you became a raging bitch over the years.”
“I was always a bitch, Yelena.”
“Okay!” Natasha intervenes, putting her hand on your shoulder.
“You should come with us.”
“To do what?” you ask, frowning.
“Free the other widows from the mind control. The Red Room is gone.” Natasha says.
Your eyes widen.
“How did that happen?”
“We took it down, and now we’re trying to free all the widows still under his control,” Yelena adds.
“And you want me to come with you?” you ask. Natasha nods.
“Dreykov is gone, meaning you can start living your own life again. And somewhere other than this dump.”
You mull her offer over for a bit, considering your realistic options. You look around the trailer, knowing you are most likely to get black mold poisoning if you stay here. You don’t have any money, you don’t have any purpose. You have nothing.
You shrug. “Sure, why not. I’ve got nothing better to do.”
Natasha smiles, while Yelena just scoffs.
“I’m still riding shotgun,” she states, grabbing her gun from the floor that she’d dropped when you kicked her.

Alien Questionnaire - A Biological Perspective
A while ago, somebody linked me a very comprehensive worldbuilding questionnaire. For most aspects of a fictional society, it was great, but I noticed it assumed that anyone using it was making up a fictional human society, or at least a society of beings very similar to humans. As such, there was almost nothing in the biology department, which to me is one of the best parts! Thus, this questionnaire was born.
These questions are designed to help people worldbuild from a biological foundation. As such, the questionnaire only touches lightly on other aspects of a fictional society, and is more of a jumping off point. I wrote it with the aim of using it to develop aliens, but it should be suitable for any project with non-humanoid species, such as sapient terrestrial animals.
Have fun! I'd love to see your answers :)

If they have multiple modes of movement, which is preferred, and why?
Which part/s of their body do they use to move?
What is their speed and endurance like?
How agile are they?
Do they rely mainly on their own bodies for travel, or do they use pack animals and machines?
How often do they move around? Are they mainly sedentary, do they move a lot within a set area, do they migrate, etc?
Do they have different levels of mobility depending on age, sex, or other biological group? E.g. young barnacles are able to swim, while adults are anchored permanently to a surface.
Reproduction and Lifecycle How many sexes are there?
Are there differences between the sexes (ignoring the reproductive system)?
Are there different castes, such as in honeybees or naked mole rats? If so, what is the function of each caste?
Are differences in sex or caste used to justify discrimination or hierarchy? How might these ideas differ in different populations?
Do they have a concept of gender? If so, is gender affected by sex, caste, or some other factor?
How do they attract a mate? Do they release a chemical into the air, do an elaborate display, etc?
Does one individual try to actively woo another, or is courtship more mutual?

How long do they live?
How are young brought into the world? Live birth, eggs, spores, etc?
Is producing young a painful, dangerous process, or is it easy?
How much parental investment is there? Are there many young with little investment, or few young with a lot of investment (r vs K strategy)? Or is it somewhere in the middle?
How many offspring are produced at a time? Think about how attitudes towards children may differ between a species that produces one or two, and a species that produces dozens or even hundreds at a time.
How do they grow? Are they born looking like miniature adults, gradually growing bigger? Do they have specific phases of high growth, like puberty? Do they have a larval phase, metamorphosis?

Do they feed off an unusual source, for example rocks, metals, or (in appropriate settings) something like magic or souls?
What physical adaptations do they have for this diet?
Is their diet very restricted, or can they have a wide range of foods?
How often do they eat? What is the culture around mealtimes, if any?
Are they prey for other organisms? For each other?
If they are, how do they deal with it? Do they fight back, have barriers, or do they accept it as a part of life?

If they are hunters, how do they hunt? Are they solitary or packhunters? Are certain members of the group designated to hunt?
Are the results of foraging or hunting shared, or is it everyone for themself?
Are they parasitic, parasitised, or in a symbiotic relationship with any other organisms?
Body Rhythms How often do they sleep?
What time of the day are they most active? Are they nocturnal, diurnal, crepuscular?
Do they generally sleep for one long period a day, multiple shorter periods throughout, or something in between?
Do they sleep to cope with extreme temperatures or bad conditions, i.e. hibernate or aestivate?
Do they have any biological processes that disrupt their life e.g. moulting, reproductive cycles, etc?
If yes, how does their society accommodate for these processes? Does it accommodate them at all?
Communication What is their main method of communication? Sound, visuals, scent, etc? Think about their main sense and how this would affect communication.
What is their body language like? What small moving parts might aid their body language?
If they have multiple methods of communication, are they all given equal weight, or is one considered higher than others?
Society How sociable are they?
If social, what is the usual social structure?
Are there hierarchies? How strict or relaxed are the roles?
How are disputes usually settled? Is it more common to be violent or appease the other party?
If not social, what is the reaction to being with other individuals? Do they become aggressive or stressed? Do they tolerate each other?
What is the usual size of a community? Do they have communities at all?
Do they have an in-group vs out-group mentality? If so, how strong is it? This generally relates to how scarce or plentiful resources were during their evolution, and how territorial their ancestors were.

HI! IVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR A HOT MINUTE BUT IM WORKING ON A AU!! Here's my first three designs (aka main cast ofc) It's called Serial Killer au for now I dont rrlly have a real name for it
close ups + info of the three below!!
GABRIEL He's a detective in this au!! The station he works at is run by mostly angels He came into a small town for multiple cases of missing persons!! This au is sort of a Sherlock Holmes situation so it's mostly based in 1900s-1920s :]]
V2 Was originally mistaken for the killer, but his charges were dropped and ended up joining Gabriel to look for the killer (for revenge of course) They used to steal (many things) for money since they're basically a street rat. He dumpster dives too lol
V1 The main cause of all those missing husks(which will eventually go to machines). They were originally working at a hospital and got addicted to fresh blood instead of the pre bagged ones. When they got fired, they resorted to killing for fresh blood.
They like to drop off the body of the victim exactly where they kidnapped them at, and also keep them alive for as long as possible for a blood source. V2 used to work at the hospital with them but they stopped speaking to each other after V2 confronted them about their blood addiction. V2 was only there to steal medicine and other hospital supplies but blood never. I'll probably draw more and talk more about this au, dropping more character designs later too!!

Misty Quigley is the complex character of Yellowjackets; an unnecessarily long essay of my thoughts that no one will read probably
[SPOILER ALERT] Misty Quigley from Yellowjackets is arguably one of the most interesting complex characters I've ever seen.
She's written in both the kids and adults timeline EXACTLY like a serial killer. Walter points this out in season two. At first, you can blame what happened in the wilderness for Misty's actions, but as time goes on within the show, even just the pilot episode, you start to realize that Misty has always been somewhat deranged.
Misty is the only character whose face is shown in the entire pit girl scene, she takes off her mask to reveal a sort of sadistic smile on her face. This is right near a scene where she, as a nurse, takes pain medications away from a patient. Your first thought of Misty is 'this woman is absolutely insane.' Still within the pilot, while all the characters are at a party, Misty is sitting alone, watching a rat drown. She doesn't attempt to save it, just observes it's downfall.
As season one goes on, we begin to notice that Misty is definitely a loner. She doesn't have many people that care about her and uses people around her for a purpose before dropping them seemingly. But she becomes elated as soon as the other Yellowjackets need her help. In the kids timeline, Misty is portrayed as the weird girl. One of her first scenes in the wilderness is her chopping someone's leg off, immediately followed by her getting *excited* to tell him. She proceeds to break the plane's transponder, the only thing that could have rescued them, until she realized she's needed.
Teen Misty is portrayed as a sympathetic character. She wants to be included and shows genuine sadness around not being included. A lot of the characters tend to think of her as sad or pathetic in a way, despite her having proven multiple times that not only is she competent, the majority of the Yellowjackets would have been dead without her. Misty isn't valued or treated as good as the rest of the girls, she's *needed*. If they had anyone else that knew medical care as well as teen Misty, Misty would not have made it to the adult timeline.
In the adult timeline, the same rules apply. Misty isn't appreciated, she's needed.
That all being said, Misty is a calm, collected, character that we hardly see breaking down. Misty truly cares for very few people, we see this while she works as a nurse both in the teen and adult timelines. She's not a bad person because of this, but she has very little empathy or regard for life, unless it's a life that truly matters to her. Crystal, Nat, and Caligula all show this. When Misty cares, she cares deeply.
Not only this, Misty is an extremely charismatic person and an extremely good liar. The reason no one likes her is she freaks them out. She's managed to charm a lot of characters or simply manipulate them into doing exactly what she wants them to do various times. Jessica Roberts is the prime example of this, also Lisa in season three. Girl gets exactly what she wants from people, whether they care about her or not.
Misty Quigley is the one Yellowjackets character that has gotten away with murder at least twice in the adult timeline. None of the other characters have been able to clean up after themselves or go unnoticed as effectively as Misty. Misty is never asked about the murders, never accused, never convicted. The one murder she is accused of was Shauna's, not hers.
And yet Misty isn't to our knowledge, a Serial Killer. She kills with intent, and purpose, and seems to pick her victims on a basis of protection rather than personal interest. She only kills if she feels she absolutely has to.
Adding onto this, Misty is a citizen detective. Misty is *known* to SOLVE murder cases. She's considered to be extremely reputable in the citizen detective community. She works as a NURSE. She's not just a killer, she is also one of the people who the world needs MOST.
Misty is also the only character who doesn't pretend like what they did in the wilderness didn't happen. Yes, she keeps it a secret for the rest of her team, but she seems like the only living Yellowjacket who not only has made peace with who she is, she actively embraces it. She knows damn well what she did as a Yellowjacket in the wilderness, and she doesn't try to hide that aspect of her personality.
Strangely enough, she's also the only Yellowjacket who isn't seen by the majority of characters as *just a Yellowjacket.* In the adult timeline, the majority of characters that encounter Misty outside of the other Yellowjackets view her as completely separate from it. We see this with Walter especially - Misty is a Yellowjacket. But with Misty, that's seen as just another bullet on a long list of things that Misty is. Taissa Turner is literally elected SENATOR and the only smear on her name anyone can come up with is "She's a Yellowjacket." Shauna Shipman has been reduced to a Yellowjacket, even though she's a mother, a wife, and so many more things. The only other character who has risen above this title is Melissa, who literally had to fake her own death to do so.
Misty is not a good person. There's no question in anyone's minds about that. But she never tried to think of herself as a good person, which is the one thing allowing her to rise above and beyond the title of 'Yellowjacket.' Misty is essential, she's charming, she's absolutely fucking deranged. But one thing that no one ever says about Misty, in the entire story, is that she's a Yellowjacket.
TL;DR: Misty Quigley has never denied who she was as a person, making her the only Yellowjacket that has never been reduced to "Just one of the Yellowjackets."
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. If you want me to do intense character analysis on anyone else (Doesn't have to be Yellowjackets) let me know!!

Devil | JJK x Makima! Reader

Y/n Itadori
Character Profile
note: aside from the eyes, the appearance is entirely up to you, while I do not rlly describe yn's appearance that much, this is what I usually imagine what she looks like when I write, again, she could look like however you want to, this is only for those who wants to see her more yuuji-like or see her as someone else
Name: Y/n Itadori
Age: 15
Appearance:
Eye Color: Yellow with multiple red rings within them
Hair Color: h/c
Height: 5’4"
Uniform: Her usual Jujutsu Tech uniform consists of an asymmetrical white jacket with high collars and pins on the left side engraved with the school logo, paired with navy blue pants that had a loose, almost flowing quality to them and brown shoes.
(PHOTO JUST FOR REFERENCE)

Abilities:
Enhanced Smell: Y/n primarily differentiates others (humans, animals, and curses) through smell. She could also smell the residuals curses leave after using its cursed technique.
Control: Y/n holds the power to directly control her inferiors. This "brainwashing" ability works on any being — from humans to animals, to curses.
Victims subsequently lose their memory of anything that happened immediately before they were put under control, and of anything they did while being controlled.
Curses under her control would be kept “inside her” and could summon them anytime she wants. When summoning them, curses are seen to crawl out of her back no matter how large they are. Curses could crawl out of any part of her body but the back is much easier. Does this damage her clothes? (no, curses have ghostlike qualities before they are fully manifested)
Y/n can borrow the power of her victims under her control. Even deceased individuals she controlled in this manner. (drawbacks would be fatigue and in some cases blood lost, especially when that victim’s power involves weapons coming out of their body)
Y/n can control individuals outright as well as warp their personalities in subtle ways.
She borrows the hearing of rats, birds and other small animals she controls to hear conversations.
She uses these small animals to travel around. These small animals can then cluster together to form the shape of a human and thus allow for Y/n to be transported to that location almost instantly.
Force Manipulation: Y/n has been shown to offensively manipulate an invisible force in a variety of ways. This force can be used to damage her weak targets.
She has been shown to inflict damage by projecting an invisible force to targets she points at with her index finger. She usually says "Bang!" while using this ability.
Curse modification: Y/n could command other curses to consume curses in order to modify them at her will. This could strengthen it, increasing its cursed energy. She could also modify its appearance and ability as long as she has the specific curse.
Cursed Energy Suppressor: Y/n originally possesses low cursed energy, a trait that distinguishes her from most jujutsu sorcerers. Her abilities primarily stem from her devil powers carried over from her past life as Makima, though they do utilize both cursed techniques and cursed energy to function. However, the majority of her power is derived from her devil abilities rather than her cursed energy.
When Y/n uses her cursed technique on a being, she leaves behind a faint trace of cursed energy on her target. These traces are so subtle and weak that they are almost imperceptible, making it extremely difficult for anyone, even the most skilled sorcerers, to detect or track her through them. This makes her control abilities particularly dangerous, as her influence is nearly invisible.
Additionally, Y/n’s overall cursed energy levels are directly affected by the presence of the beings she controls. Without those beings residing within her, her cursed energy depletes significantly, rendering her more invisible.
Love Interests:
Megumi Fushiguro
Nobara Kugisaki
Maki Zenin
Toge Inumaki
Todo Aoi
would def add more just request
NOW TIME FOR SOME HEAD CANNONS: (and spoilers ofc)
yn may or may not have already lost her memories as Makima, but remember things that feels familiar. After losing her memories as Makima, she does not know why she felt that way, she just does. She feels broken.
yn is constantly looking for someone that could protect her in a parental way but the walls she surrounded herself is way too thick for her to see people that care for her
yn does not know why she feels like she can't trust people, she just does
The orange curse, or now we know it as ‘Pochita’ is unhealthily attached to yn despite the constant abuse it receives from her, pochita sees it as ‘discipline’
yn misses suguru and NanaMimi, NanaMimi tries to contact and waits for her in the park
Giving up, NanaMimi left something for yn in the park from Suguru and them
Wait who is Sukuna to yn again? Why was she unaffected by his domain expansion?
“a gift to those who are loyal” are just silly little fillers... right?
Yasu hates working with yn because of the paperworks piling up, does he complain tho? (ofc. not, he loves money after all)
yn is strong strong
yn still refuses to use a phone but Satoru got her and her brother one for ‘mission purposes’ and yes she struggles to use it.
The wallpaper would be her and her brother while the lockscreen is Sugar. It would've been Sugar and Pochita but cameras can't capture curses.
She still loves taking photos of Pochita and Sugar playing tho and yes, while Sugar couldn't see Pochita, it could perceive it. (doggy senses or maybe it's because of smthng else)
yn takes selfies like a 50 y.o. dad on facebook
Still refuses to download social media but was forced to have a messaging app because of Satoru
Suguru promised to buy yn her first dog but was unable to because he died lol.
yn hates close combats, but after training with Maki she's a bit confident with it now and started relying less on Pochita or her force manipulation. Sometimes, close combat is more efficient afterall.
With that being said, the main reason why yn always finish missions quickly was because of Pochita. She sits back and relax why our cute lil modified curse does the job.
Sometimes she helps too. But she's always too lazy.
yn is so lazy to the point she walks behind the group. When it comes to stairs or anything that goes up, when no one's looking, she demands Pochita to carry her.
After her brother's death, yn started taking missions from grade 1 to special grade tiers. While higher-ups usually disallow newbies to take missions alone, they made an exception because they fear yn and hopefully one of these missions would eradicate her.
Before modifying Pochita, yn had over a hundred of curses under her control that are mostly grade 4 to 2. Some are grade 1 while most special grades were given by Suguru. She lost tabs on them and asked Pochita to consume them. (It was a gamble since she isn't sure if the grade 4 curse could handle this much curses but hey, she's crazy alright)
While this story would not entirely focus on romance, but surely there would be cute scenes.
yn's biggest weakness: fast opponents
While Yuuji was eager to eat vegetables as a child, yn outright REFUSES to eat it.
Update (01/06/25): removed a love interest and the yandere tag

By Amanda Blum
PCR tests are far superior to rapid antigen tests—and now you can get them for home use.
Last week, I was about to go on a date, and because I'm severely immunocompromised, we agreed he would take a COVID test using one of my rapid home PCR tests. It was a courtesy—he felt perfectly fine— but he tested positive. By the next day, he was sick as a dog. And, by the way, the rapid antigen test he took when he got home that night was negative.
Regardless of how you much of a health risk you see in COVID, it is still, at best, an inconvenience that costs you days off work. A simple home PCR test saved me from that inconvenience (and worse), and if I'd relied on the common rapid antigen test or done nothing at all, I would probably be sick right now.
While the world has desperately attempted to move on from COVID, this summer saw the highest case loads since 2022, with a winter surge just around the corner. Almost 300,000 people died from COVID in the US over the last three months alone, so while the pandemic has transitioned into endemic, according to the CDC, there are still risks to be aware of. Around 400 million people worldwide have long COVID, where symptoms can range from annoying to absolutely debilitating, regardless of your age, pre-COVID health, or fitness levels. Cases of long COVID are crushing our medical system, too. The two best tools to avoid getting COVID continue to be masking and testing. Unfortunately, the PCR testing centers that used to be available in each city have long closed, and obtaining a PCR has become expensive and hard to locate. This is why home testing kits are so important.
While you may be used to thinking of COVID tests as interchangeable, there’s a big difference between the standard at-home antigen test and a PCR (molecular) test. Almost five years in, it’s important to understand why PCR tests are the ones you want when accurate testing is important.
The difference between a PCR and a Rapid Antigen Test What you normally think of as a home COVID test—like the kind you can order for free from the government—is a rapid antigen test. When these at-home COVID tests became available, they were a powerful tool to help people know they were positive so they could isolate themselves from others. Almost all at-home tests were lateral flow tests, also known as rapid antigen tests (RATs). They measure for proteins on the outside of SARS-C0V-2, but they have a major flaw: They can only detect active virus. If you’re asymptomatic or don’t have a high viral load yet, the RAT may show negative results while you have an active and contagious infection.
This is why, if you already have symptoms, a negative antigen test isn't conclusive. You may need to test a number of times to confirm you have COVID. When you first get sick, you may go a number of days (as many as five) without enough virus to set off a positive RAT test. RATs were designed to be taken multiple times in sequence.
A PCR, also known as a NAAT or molecular test, measures RNA and can detect even small amounts of the virus. This is why it has always been considered the “gold standard” of COVID testing. These tests are generally considered accurate starting one to three days before you experience symptoms. Until last year, you needed to get a PCR from a testing center, but home tests have evolved and there are now four rapid, at-home molecular COVID tests, meaning you test and get a result within 30 minutes.
Why we still need COVID testing The world is now divided into people who view COVID as part of regular life and those who, due to chronic illness, immune issues, previous infections, or age, cannot afford to get infected. For a long time, we viewed COVID testing as something you do for your own health, but home PCR testing represents a way you can easily protect those vulnerable people in your life without cutting them off from society.
But even if you're not concerned about others, you should still care about protecting yourself from multiple infections. While the likelihood you will die of COVID has gone down dramatically due to vaccines, medical interventions, and natural immunity from infection, the news has not done a great job talking about long COVID. As people get infected two, three, four, and more times, they are playing against the odds. It’s estimated that one in 10—or even as many as one in five—infections leads to long COVID, and to explain how much it’s not “just the flu,” COVID is now considered to be a vascular illness. That means it affects the blood vessels in your body, which go everywhere. Thinking of COVID as a vascular illness helps explain why long COVID is everything from extreme fatigue to migraines to numbness in your extremities, loss of smell and taste, extreme fatigue, and neurological and cardiovascular conditions.
While lots of people no longer even test to see if they have COVID, there are a few reasons to get a definitive answer. First, you can only get the intervention Paxlovid within the first five days of symptoms. Anti-virals like Paxlovid knock down your viral load, one of the things we think helps prevent long COVID. Second, no one knows who will get long COVID, and you might need proof of that positive test in the future for insurance or benefits or even to justify sick days.
Lastly, you need to get tested because it is hard to know when you have COVID. Symptoms of COVID include headache, body ache, fever, sniffles, congestion, fatigue, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of smell or taste. In other words, absolutely anything out of the ordinary. While a RAT is unreliable for safe socializing with people for the reasons explained above, a molecular test can pretty reliably clear someone to come in your house that day, or be in close proximity. In that way, these molecular tests can be a tool to help immunocompromised people back into the world and make multigenerational celebrations safer.
How to get a molecular/PCR test Outside of your home, your main options now are urgent care clinics and places that do testing for travel. In both cases, they’ll be expensive. In the case of urgent care, they’ll put you in the same space as all the sick people, who are now no longer required to mask in healthcare settings, so if you don't already have COVID, you might pick it up there. Fortunately, there are molecular (PCR quality) tests you can take at home.
Rapid molecular tests require a similar effort on your part as a RAT test. You’ll swab yourself and then insert that swab into a machine that gives you a result. There are currently just four brands of these tests available: Lucira, Metrix, 3EO, and PlusLife. Unlike RAT tests, you have to order them, although Metrix and Lucira tests are available on Amazon, and Walgreens stocks Lucira tests in select stores. For a long time, they were just too expensive for most people, so they were relegated to the likes of movie sets, law firms, and Google employees. Prices have gone down, so now they’re more accessible—as low as $10 a test. Here are your options.

I’m pretty sure some dogs can tell venomous and non venomous snake apart by smell I mean if an untrained dog or cat can figure out that an internal tumor in their human equals sickness or something bad then why can’t they do the same with snakes? Or at least recognize that snakes mean danger while the lizards they are used too are harmless.
Dogs can smell snakes and even smell whether they’re venomous or not, but it takes a great deal of scent-detection training for them to know what to do with that information. They do not innately know that venom = danger.
My late dog, Tyson, ran past/over (thankfully didn’t step on it) a large rat snake multiple times without ever noticing it was there. If it had been a rattlesnake or a copperhead he would have been screwed. To him, the snake smell was just one of the many smells he was experiencing on the trail. Also, some dogs have more of a prey drive than others, and Tyson did not have any prey drive to speak of. They may react to your reaction to those animals though, and it’s important to train them early on to avoid snakes, both to protect your native wildlife and your dog. Envenomations most often happen when a person (or dog) is trying to capture or kill the snake, and the snake bites in defense.

on BSD’s Ranpo — on inspiring others, compassion, and forgiveness

By comparison to my post on Poe, this one doesn’t draw direct comparisons to one specific work, though I’ve attempted to drawn in some appropriate historical context. At core, though, this is focused on BSD Ranpo. Stay tuned to watch an idiot compose their thoughts?
It’s fairly general knowledge that the author Edogawa Ranpo is widely regarded as the father of Japanese mystery. Somewhat lesser known may be the nuance of this, which is that he’s credited with trying to adapt European/Western style mysteries (A. Conan Doyle, E. A. Poe, and others) into a Japanese setting, working around and accommodating the architectural and societal differences that come with.
He founded an organization called the Mystery Writers of Japan, which has its own award in addition to the one that’s named after him; the Edogawa Rampo Prize.
What I believe is significant about this, as it relates to BSD Ranpo, is that this award targets new/beginner/amateur novelists, and is awarded to unpublished mystery novels. Winning this award accompanies a 10 million yen cash prize (~63k USD) and publishing by Kodansha, giving the novelist a jumpstart of sorts into their career.

This notion is reflected more explicitly in this part of the manga, where Ranpo encourages the world, the layman population, to become detectives as well (just as the IRL award gives aspiring novelists an opportunity to be published, + gain recognition and money to help in their careers). Earlier in the manga, he also explicitly presents BSD Mushitaro with a career opportunity (via the business card of a special abilities division spy), encourages Poe to keep writing (IE: maintain his career), and offers to assist Minoura on future cases at a discount price (career assistance).
Then, of course, there’s this:

Convincing one third of the police force (who, if we are to compare being a novelist like author Ranpo to BSD Ranpo’s detective work, could be analogous to aspiring writers) despite the page explicitly saying police will not trust the agency is a very powerful something.
I personally like to believe that a large part of this can be attributed to the compassion BSD Ranpo displays in the manga. Mind you, in this context, I am defining compassion, in opposition to empathy or sympathy, as attempting to understand and relieve another person’s suffering, which is something we see him do multiple times in the manga. I have placed this (rough) analysis below the cut due to the subjectivity of this interpretation.
Having said that, I should preface that Ranpo having compassion ≠ him being a good or moral person. Just remember he was 100% willing to let Atsushi get kidnapped (likely having foreseen that not doing so would induce the Guild to attempt to destroy Yokohama and the agency), and then even more willing to let a war between the agency and the mafia ravage Yokohama (which would generate innumerable casualties) if it meant saving Fukuzawa.
Anyhow,
Inspiring Other Characters to Self Fulfillment
A note I want to touch on is that the four characters whom initially oppose only to side with Ranpo (Fukuzawa, Minoura, Poe, Mushitaro) are all self-actualized after he catalyzes them to do so. Fukuzawa finds his “life’s path” in founding the agency. Minoura gets his moment in ch81 where he fights for what he believes in and protects Ranpo. Poe is inspired to write again (and this time, for a positive reason—because Ranpo wants to read his works—not out of hate). Mushitaro, who was previously made to be the villain in two deals he made (murdering Yokomizo, evidence erasing evidence for the Rats), makes a decision for himself to turn against the Rats and do something he himself wants to do —not what his near-death friend wants him to do, but something he chose for himself and at the expense of himself. It also allows him to meet Poe later, and begin to write.
This is not to argue that Ranpo is responsible for these people’s finding of their desired goals/life paths, but rather that he catalyzed them to think about it and pursue the goal themselves. It was ultimately their strength and motivation that got these characters to pursue what they do—pursue something that satisfies themselves—, Ranpo simply had a helping hand, through his compassion, in inducing them to decide to make that change. This is similar to a person being inspired to self-improvement —something like an inspirational person/post or friend may trigger them to make that change, but ultimately it is the person themselves that puts in the effort for the change.
Compassion: Understanding of A to relieve the suffering of B, vs Understanding of A to relieve the suffering of A

I consider this a demonstration of compassion, because though it isn’t intended to relieve Sugimoto’s suffering, it does relieve Minoura’s. Notably, prior to this scene, Minoura is agitated over Sugimoto not confessing the location of the evidence which Minoura’s subordinate died for, and in demonstrating understanding of Sugimoto like this, he got Sugimoto to confess what Minoura wanted.
This is notably the same method through which he gets Mushitaro confess. Granted, with Mushitaro, it’s explicitly blackmail, but the principle of understanding the motive and tragedy involved with the crime —the fact that the victim cared for the murderer, and vice versa— and using that to derive the result Ranpo wants, is the same. The suffering relieved here is Kunikida’s.
Demonstrations of compassion which relieve the suffering of the one being understood are most obvious with Poe (who he gives acknowledgement and praise to) and Mushitaro (who he fulfills his promise to of both granting him work, as well as burning the manuscript instead of keeping it as blackmail). In both cases, he openly gives two people who tried to hurt him encouragement for them to build their own futures. He encouraged Poe to write and Mushitaro to find work on the right side of the law, though it would ultimately be up to both to make the most of these opportunities.
Kunikida fits this category as well, as Ranpo understood how awful he felt about letting that child die in front of his eyes, and acted to relieve that suffering by clearing his name. It remained up to Kunikida, of course, to move on from the incident on his own.
Less obviously, there’s also Kyouka and his immediate acceptance of her into the agency.

This moment, I suspect, is due to Ranpo seeing Kyouka as someone like himself. Like him, she lost her parents and very nearly lost faith in the world, only to be shown the light again (by Fukuzawa and Atsushi respectively). This may be the reason for the sibling comparison between them, as well as the fact that Fukuzawa accepts Kyouka (and even lies that she’s his granddaughter) after looking at her pleading face (which I like to think reminded him of Ranpo, given their similar ages, hair colors, liking of snacks, etc.) Like with Ranpo as well, once she lost her parents, Kyouka was taken into a world of “monsters” —people which were terrifying and hard to understand (the Port Mafia).
This sympathy and acceptance which Ranpo displays towards Kyouka is notably something Atsushi was excluded from, which is something I believe stems from what I highlighted above, as well as the fact that Atsushi (being who he is, and having the ability he does) presented much more significant danger to the agency than Kyouka does.
And now that I’ve been over all of this, I also think it’s interesting to highlight that Ranpo has been a very forgiving person throughout the manga. He forgives Minoura for insulting him. He forgives Poe for trying to kill him and Yosano. He forgives Mushitaro for his hand in Kunikida’s torment. This, I believe stems in large from what Fukuzawa told him about everyone else being stupid. His explanation to Ranpo was something roughly along the lines of (not a direct quote): compared to your intelligence people are like babies. They don’t hate you, they’re just ignorant. How can a baby who can barely hold its head up have malice towards you?
Bearing this mentality in mind, it makes sense that Ranpo does not rebuke the above listed people, who he regards as ignorant compared to himself. Minoura just didn’t know how great of a detective Ranpo was, Poe was just upset, Mushitaro was just acting on his loyalty to his friend, etc. They were not malicious.
Noting Poe—yes he was after revenge (and I discussed this in a previous post), but he seemed to delight more in the action of defeating Ranpo than in watching Ranpo be miserable. The most obvious evidence to this being that when Yosano died, he simply gloated that he’d defeated one of the detectives and that Ranpo was next, not the more sadistic alternative of being happy Ranpo lost a good friend.
In summary: Ranpo is capable of an astonishing amount of forgiveness and compassion, so long as it is to people who are ignorant compared to him, do not act in malice, and are not threats to the agency. When he does decide to extend compassion and/or forgiveness, his doing so often inspires them to pursue their own goals/happiness in life.
I hope, if you have read this far, there was some value to be derived from this analysis. In truth, I wrote this to organize my personal thoughts in preparation for writing as well as other analysis.
Previously I declared that I wanted to touch on BSD Ranpo’s and Poe’s social isolation, however that turned out to be more of a complicated topic than I expected. Same thing with connecting The Case of the Murder on D. Hill (the novel which Ranpo’s debut chapter is named after) to Ranpo.

Sirius Black Vs The Wards: Why Death Eaters Weren’t Invited To Tea
We’ve all heard it: “Hogwarts is the safest place in the wizarding world.” But who actually set those protections? How do they work? And more importantly—why do they fail in such spectacular fashion when a certain Animagus wants to drop in for a visit? Let’s take a look at the foundations of these fabled defences—and why they might be more aesthetic than foolproof?
🏰 Who Set the Wards on Hogwarts?
✔️ Hogwarts is protected by centuries-old enchantments laid by the Founders and reinforced by successive Headmasters—currently, Dumbledore.
These wards include:
Anti-Apparition barriers
Muggle-repelling charms
Detection wards for dark magic
Protective enchantments layered into the very stone
Sounds airtight? Hold that thought.
🐺 So How Did Sirius Black Break In?
✔️ He was an unregistered Animagus. The wards don’t detect animals the same way they detect humans. ✔️ He had intimate knowledge of the school grounds from his time as a Marauder. ✔️ He had access to:
The Marauder’s Map (the blueprint of Hogwarts mischief)
Secret passageways hidden even from the staff
Decades of experience evading authority
📌 The Ministry’s Dementors were stationed around Hogwarts—but they couldn’t detect him in his Animagus form. And if they did? They still needed direct proximity.

Sirius snuck in multiple times. Into the castle. Into the Gryffindor dormitories. And what was the school’s response?
“Board up the Fat Lady’s portrait. That’ll fix it.”
🐍 Meanwhile… THE DEATH EATERS
Here’s where the logic falls apart spectacularly:
Death Eaters—many of them former students—can’t get in.
We’re talking Bellatrix, Lucius, Narcissa, Travers, Rookwood, Yaxley, Dolohov, and other former Slytherin alumni—even Voldemort himself. These were witches and wizards with significant magical ability and extensive history at Hogwarts. And yet... not one of them could find a way in without relying on a teenager and a piece of broken furniture? Suspiciously neglected. Strategically nonsensical.
They knew the castle. They lived there. Yet none of them could break in?
So what does Voldemort do?
Assigns Draco Malfoy, a sixteen-year-old schoolboy, the impossible mission of assassinating Dumbledore—as punishment for Lucius' failure at the Ministry.
Under immense pressure and with no adult help, Draco devises his own plan: fix a broken Vanishing Cabinet—which had been rotting in a corner like a half-assembled IKEA wardrobe—to sneak Death Eaters into the castle.
A dusty, half-forgotten wardrobe becomes the cornerstone of a death squad invasion—like someone planned a high-risk coup using magical flat-pack furniture and crossed their fingers it wouldn't collapse mid-assembly.

Let that sink in:
Full-grown Death Eaters couldn’t manage what a teenage fugitive dog animagus did three times over.
And here’s the kicker—Peter Pettigrew, the very Death Eater who faked his own death and lived as a rat for over a decade, knew about the secret tunnel between the Shrieking Shack and Hogwarts via the Whomping Willow. He had used it himself. So why didn’t he lead the Death Eaters through it?
Even if it was partially sealed or risky, surely it could’ve been reinforced faster than restoring a Vanishing Cabinet. Was Voldemort unaware of it? Or did he not trust a path once tied to the Marauders?
If speed and surprise were the goal, the Whomping Willow route seems a baffling omission. Dubious, darling. Deeply dubious.
🤯 THE IMPLICATIONS:
🔥 Sirius Black > Death Eaters in Hogwarts Infiltration
Sirius had deeper magical intuition, resourcefulness, and a working knowledge of the school’s blind spots.
The Marauders, collectively, understood Hogwarts better than most of the staff.
The Death Eaters, despite their power, relied on brute force and bypassing rather than subtlety.
And let’s not forget—his Animagus form was a dog. While it's never explicitly stated how the wards classify Animagi, it’s reasonable to assume that Sirius’ form allowed him to bypass the usual detection spells. Perhaps Hogwarts is accidentally pet-friendly—but not evil-detection efficient. Just ask Rita Skeeter, who snuck into places as a beetle without setting off a single alarm. So maybe the rule is: if you don’t look magical, you’re fine. You can sneak in if you look like a lovable stray—or an unremarkable insect. Good luck if you’re in full Death Eater robes, though.
🤨 Or… The Wards Are Dubiously Selective
Hogwarts’ security flexes depending on plot demands.
If Voldemort needed in, there’s always some reason he couldn’t—until Dumbledore was dead.
Are the wards magically intelligent? Or just wildly inconsistent?
Hogwarts: “No evil may enter—unless it’s disguised as a dog.”
🪞 Lingering Reflections:
This raises a serious (Sirius) question:
Was Sirius Black secretly one of the most magically competent characters in the series?
If so—why didn’t the Order use him better? Why wasn’t he teaching stealth? Why wasn’t he training students?
And perhaps more pressingly—why didn’t Dumbledore clear his name?
He knew Sirius was innocent. He had strong reason to believe the truth about Peter Pettigrew—ever since the events in the Shrieking Shack. Though he claimed he lacked proof after Pettigrew escaped, one must wonder why a wizard of Dumbledore’s stature couldn’t sway the Ministry or rally support. Instead, he let Sirius remain a fugitive, locked in Grimmauld Place, haunted and hunted.
Was it fear of public backlash? Political games? Or simply another case of Dumbledore trusting that “the greater good” would work itself out?
Or was it simply another oversight by the narrative so focused on the Chosen One that they forgot the Black sheep genius in the corner?
⸻

🐾 You got comments. Lots of comments, praising the fanart... Or asking, why did you post an April Fools' joke now, not on First of April?
🐾 Fanart? Joke? What do they mean? It wasn't a fanart, it's an official card! You clearly remember doing a daily free 11-scout! And getting them!
🐾 But, a tiny seed of doubt appears in your soul. Was it possible, that so many people didn't get the cards? Or... Didn't see the scout?
______
🐾 Next strange thing happened, when you Shine the Marble for Ranpo. For this week it was a Campaign "10 shines for one click". The Marble Turned prismatic, and you exchange it for SSR Scout Ticket. Well, for a few SSR Tickets. You got lucky again and win "Detective Chance". A familiar phrase appeared in a text box near Ranpo's chibi:
"Great Job, [Y/N]! You deserve a little bonus! Let's collect more cool marbles later!"
🐾 You smiled. It was cute.
🐾 Unfortunately, one of your fellow students saw everything you were doing.
🐾 And they blamed you for playing a hacked game.
🐾 You snarled at them. If they are playing BSD Mayoi and were unlucky with Marble Shining today, it's not your fault. You aren't cheating. Besides, they were looking on your phone screen without your permission. And what if you were texting some private information during that?
🐾 They spat at you, mumbling something about 'there is no marble campaign right now' and 'never they gave you five tickets for a marble'.
🐾 They were rude, yes. They were in the wrong by looking at your phone screen. But... They won't gain too anything by lying. Especially, to you. You also play BSD Mayoi, you could check.
🐾 Could you?
🐾 You didn't notice, that chibi Ranpo opened his eyes. And his look wasn't the friendliest.
🐾 The next day you learned, that yesterday's student got some serious private information leaked. Something about blackmail and stealing other students projects. They will face some trouble.
🐾 ... Quite an interesting coincidence...
_______
🐾 You don't know, what made you do it, but, when your grandma asked you to download an app, that will remind her taking her medication, you decide to look up BSD Mayoi Inu Kaikitan game in app store.
🐾 Different icon. Not yours. Different screens. And comments...
🐾 Asking, when third season will be added... For more Fyodor cards... For adding Gogol cards... Asking for a Dead Apple Scout rerun... That was up last time almost five years ago.
🐾 This comment was from two days ago. But, Dead Apple Scout was just one month ago! You got Dazai's, Fyodor's and Shibusawa's cards!
🐾 They were wrong! Or... You were wrong...? Or no one was wrong.
🐾 You download necessary apps for your grandma.
🐾 And start thinking.
_______
🐾 You spend two hours in the library, using the university's computer.
🐾 Search information about BSD Mayoi in any language you could think of.
🐾 Online translators might not be the most accurate, but they let you understand the main idea.
🐾 There was no more story in game outside The Dragon Head Conflict. And the situation didn't change for years.
🐾 Aya, Rimbaud, Flags, Adam, Verlaine, Karma, Katai, Oda's orphans, Pushkin, Goncharov, Oguri, Gogol, Sigma, Tetchou, Teruko, Fukuchi, Jounou and Bram didn't have any cards on any server. And Tachihara didn't have a Hunting Dogs version of his card.
🐾 Some Scouts didn't have a rerun for ages.
🐾 Marble Exchange can give you one SSR Ticket for Max Level Marble.
🐾 There were never Junchirou's menu with daily recipes. Or Katai's menu with tips for keeping your phone safe. Or Mori's with fashion tips.
🐾 Devs never gave away SSR Cards as present for Maintenance end.
🐾 Characters never send notes with gifts to Players, thanking them.
🐾 Players could choose any nicknames, not their real names.
🐾 Either you get a special version of an app... Or... Characters were... But, it's impossible, right?
🐾 Were there any way for you to prove it?
______
"I love BSD for using small Easter eggs for people, who liked literature. But, I wish, they would do it more often. For example, real-life Junchirou Tanizaki and Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald were friends! They even play shogi together. And in BSD Tanizaki and Francis are barely interacting with each other."
After you finish talking with your friend, Ango immediately rushed to get the camera, and Junchirou and Francis start to set a scene. Tomorrow you will get a card you want! Card, that reflects their other world counterparts.
[Next Day]
"Oh! SSR card with Fitzgerald and Junchirou playing shogi? And it's called "Old friends"? Good... So Devs knew about that... story..."
Your voice sounded... Off. And Little Light trembled for some reason.
"Story, that I made up two days ago to test my theory. You... All of you can hear me, right?"
BSD Cast feel, like they were struck by lightning. They wanted to make a surprise to you and reveal, that they are self-aware, only when they got into your world.... Well, doesn't matter, they could try to speak to you, now...
Why are you crying? Who have hurt you?
Your voice were pleading. You sobbed.
"I am sorry! I am sorry for not realizing it sooner! I am sorry for every hit you got, when marble hit spikes or poison, or when enemies hit you! I am sorry, for reading about your lives, for learning your secrets without permission! For... Making you relive your lives... And for... Hurting you... Killing you..."
At the end, you were hysterical. You were the reason for Rimbaud's, Flags', Oda's, his kids', Gide's and Shibusawa's death. You were the reason, they got hurt. You howl, remembering that time, Kunikida lost his arms.
"I am sorry! I am sorry! I am so sorry!"
BSD Cast were in distress. You misunderstood the situation! They weren't angry! They liked you and will never hate you!
But with next words their world shatter.
"I... I won't read about your lives anymore. Or watch about it... I... won't play the game anymore... I won't delete it, because I am not sure, if this won't hurt you... I am sorry!"
You close the app.
Little Light fall on a floor, sobbing.
_____
Few days later you got an email from yourself. And from them.
"Dear [Y/N],
Please, listen to us. You didn't hurt us in any way! We aren't angry, we promise! You... Your love and understanding let us through our darkest times. We were lost, confused, we didn't know who we are. But you, you were here. You treat us and our emotions like we were real for you.
Please, open the app... We add chat, we want to talk to you.
BSD cast"
You re-read the letter a few more times. Then again. And again.
After some thinking, you opened the app.
______
You were chatting for a long time. You asked about how they became self-aware, what were happening, when you read new chapters. You asked about deceased ones, whose cards you got (you have never been happier in your life, after learning, that they were alive. Because of you). You asked if they felt pain, when they loose HP in game.
And BSD Gang asked you about your life, your interest, if they can add something else in the app that you need.
And about wanting to get into your world. About wanting to live in reality. And be your friends.
You have a feeling, that it was a beginning of something unique.
______
🐾 You keep your decision about not watching and reading BSD. They weren't characters anymore. They were real people.
🐾 You also stopped cleaning Battle Stages in Mayoi. Instead, you were chatting with the gang.
🐾 Slowly but surely you learned more about each other.
🐾 So, when they finally appeared in your world, you greet them like old friends.
______
¹ Something interesting about numbers:
2821 - "The Gambler" by Dostoevsky was the author's 28th work. And it was written in 21 days, because Dostoevsky lost all money he had by gambling and need money as soon as possible.
3711 - In "The Queen of Spades" by Pushkin the winning combination in the card game were three, seven and ace (considered 11 in some games and in the novel)
5243 - "The Gamblers" play by Gogol was played on stage for the first time in 1843, on 5 of February.
1638 - Year, when the first Casino in Europe was open.

Since it's disability pride month I am dedicating this confession to lesser known/underrated disabled WC characters!
Everyone knows and loves cats like Briarlight and Brightheart, but there's quite a few others that aren't talked about as much
First off, One-Eye and Halftail, the two first arc elders. They don't show up much due to being in the Elder's Den, but when they do, they're a delight to see. I love One-Eye's bickering with Smallear and how she helps Brightheart a bit in A Dangerous Path! They're also the parents of Mousefur and Runningwind! One of whom dies fighting Tigerclaw in the same book Halftail dies of smoke inhalation after the fire. I like to think Runningwind rushed into battle against Tigerclaw impulsively since his father had died not long ago. Mousefur, on the other hand, takes after her mom in the new prophecy and onwards as a grumpy old lady lol. Very great characters, I love them a lot!
Speaking of the 1st arc, Brokenstar. He's honestly a really entertaining and threatening villain, and people don't talk about him much or his disability. Him and other cats with damaged tails like Berrynose and Finleap aren't really talked about in conversations about disabled characters. I find Brokenstar very interesting, not because of his motivation (or lack there of lol) which is pretty generic, but because of his lasting effects on the clans. His reign directly or indirectly led to several key events in the first arc or beyond. Tigerclaw becoming the deputy of ThunderClan was caused by Brokenstar killing Lionheart (canonically, we don't know who killed Lion, but I think it was Brokenstar), him being still alive led to Nightstar not getting nine lives and dying in Rising Storm. Which led directly to Tigerstar taking power. He directly killed several cats, but his orders and actions led to many more that wouldn't have happened had he not been leader, which I will not list out because this confession would be way too long. Another thing I like about him is that he is a fantastic villain in OOTS. People often depict the main leader of the Dark Forest being Tigerstar or Mapleshade, but in reality, it's actually Brokenstar. Tigerstar is more of a secondary leader to him. Brokenstar was the first Dark Forest cat to cross into the living world, and he later seemingly detects StarClan cats at the border to the Dark Forest somehow and confronts them, so Jayfeather and Spottedleaf have to sneak in, and he leads Flametail into the Dark Forest so Ivypool can ghost kill him (but this plan was foiled by Tigerheart), and in The Darkest Hour, Ivypool refers to the plans as "What Brokenstar is plotting". So yeah, he's the leader of the DF, not Tigerstar, and Tiger wouldn't have gotten very far without him lol. Crazy how we got multiple disabled leaders and deputies in the first arc and then not ever again, unless you count Berrynose lol
Next is Volewhisper! Who has quite a few parallels with Cinderpelt! One of their back legs were both injured by a villain's scheming (Tigerclaw's trap for Bluestar and Brokenstar making kits fight rats), they were both then inspired by a senior clanmate (Yellowfang and Nightpelt), and Cinderpelt chooses to become a medicine cat while Volewhisper chooses to be a warrior instead. I find him very fun and he's one of my favourite characters in Exile From ShadowClan!
The next cat I wanna talk about is a bit controversial due to some pretty bad writing choices by the team. Finleap. I really really loved him in Darkest Night and River of Fire. He and Twigbranch had a really sweet relationship, and I love how he follows her to ThunderClan. I also hate Sandynose, but that's besides the point. They were really cute and I liked them a lot... but then The Raging Storm happened. Where instead of focusing on the actually interesting plot of Twigbranch struggling to be a mentor, they decide to make her nice, sweet, and sort of goofy boyfriend... a jerk. He's rude he gives her the cold shoulder, it's awful, and so out of character. At least he actually does apologize for it and improve his behaviour, which I admit was a sweet moment in an otherwise pretty bad plotline. Then, after that, he's sort of a background cat. He briefly stands up to The Impostor after Twiggy is punished. In Sky he has a sort of friendship with Nightheart. He and Lionblaze laugh at Nightheart after he gets bit by a Squirrel, but later in the book Nightheart thinks of him in a positive light and he's one of the first cats that Night thinks of telling about Sunbeam. Overall fun guy, nice character despite one really bad book (which is basically every warriors character lol)
Some other underrated disabled cats who I don't really have as much to say about:
Fallowfern (deaf)
Shrewtooth (PTSD)
