Receiving positive feedback from Wall Street since the WGA went on strike May 2, Warner Bros Discovery, Apple, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Paramount and others have become determined to “break the WGA,” as one studio exec blatantly put it.

To do so, the studios and the AMPTP believe that by October most writers will be running out of money after five months on the picket lines and no work.

“The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses,” a studio executive told Deadline. Acknowledging the cold-as-ice approach, several other sources reiterated the statement. One insider called it “a cruel but necessary evil.”

The studios and streamers’ next think financially strapped writers would go to WGA leadership and demand they restart talks before what could be a very cold Christmas. In that context, the studios and streamers feel they would be in a position to dictate most of the terms of any possible deal.

They’re not. They can’t. This studio propaganda, and here’s why.

In the increasingly mega-merged and hedgefundified Hollywood, these companies live or die on their quarterly earnings reports. It only takes one bad quarter for their stock price to plunge, putting the company and the CEO’s job in jeopardy.

But their stock prices are holding steady, right? Right. For now. Because our industry is a pipeline that starts with writers. The TV and movies they’re releasing now are shows we started making for them 4-12 quarters ago. But what happens when that pipeline runs dry?

What happens is they run out of product. No new shows in streaming to drive and sustain subscribers. No new shows in broadcast and ad-supported to bring in ad revenue.

No shows, no money.

No money, bad earnings report.

Bad earnings report, bye-bye stock price. Bye-bye CEO.

After 70+ days with no writers to create their product for them, the pipeline is running dry.

Their stock price isn’t tanking yet. But if they don’t make a deal with us, it will.

And they know it.

If they make a deal soon, they might be able to weather it. Stretch out releases. Rush some new stuff through.

But the longer they keep us out, the longer that pipeline runs dry, the more unavoidable a catastrophic dip in new high-quality shows becomes.

And they know it.

So yeah, the studios are planting articles in the trades that make it sound like they’re so determined not to pay us the 0.02% of company revenues we’re asking for that they’re willing to hold out forever.

Bullshit.

I’m sure the AMPTP bosses would love to break our union. But they love their jobs more. They love money more. They can’t make that money without us.

And they know it.

I did warn you…

Okay so idk if a lot of people know this, but Damian was originally given up for adoption right after he was born before his story was reconned.

So in this comic, Damian is 9 years old and in the foster system in Gotham, unknowing who his parents are. He’s never stays long in a home because he’s very aggressive. He’s smart though, so he orders a DNA testing kit to hopefully find a relative to take him. Imagine his shock when he finds out his father is Bruce Wayne.

So this 9 year old walks into WE by himself, toddles up to the secretary, and asks to see Bruce Wayne. The secretary is like “haha okay, let me help you find your parents.” And Damian is like “you can. My dad is Bruce Wayne.”

And then Tim shows up!! And he’s like, “who’s your dad?”

And Damian is suddenly really nervous and shyly passes Tim the DNA test results. Tim looks them over, and Damian thinks he’s going to get turned away. But then Tim smiles at him and asks him if he has time for a drink.

Damian basically explains his life story over a cup of hot chocolate to Tim. Tim listens and tells him that he’ll make sure Bruce sees it and gives him his number if he has any questions (Damian doesn’t have a phone). Damian gets up to throw out his cup but Tim is like “oh I can throw that out for you. Talk to you soon!”

Cut to the BatCave where Bruce is staring at the DNA test results. Showing him and Talia as the parents. Tim stands behind him. “I doubled and tripled checked.” He says. “Not to mention he’s the spitting image of you.” He mumbles under his breath, knowing that Bruce isn’t in the mood for jokes right now. Alfred places some Tylenol beside Bruce using his butler powers to sense his on coming headache.

“And you said he walked into the lobby by self?” Bruce asked.

“Yeah, he said he took the bus.”

“Oh dear,” Alfred comments, “that is certainly not safe for a boy his age in Gotham. I wonder if his social worker knows about that…”

So the next morning, Damian finds that he’s out of custody from his foster parents. And he’s like “but I didn’t do anything this time!” And his social workers like “no, they’re getting charged with child endangerment. We already have a place lined up for you.”

Lo and behold, his new foster home is Wayne Manor. And he meets Bruce for the first time and he’s really nervous. And Bruce has to turn away because he almost starts crying. And Damian asks Alfred if he did something wrong and Alfred’s like “no, he’s just very happy to see you.”

And that’s basically it. But I also have this idea of how he discovers his Dad is Batman.

He comes downstairs in the early morning for a snack before going back to sleep to find Red Hood raiding their fridge. He runs to Bruce and he’s freaking because fucking RED HOOD broke into their house.

And Bruce groans and is mildly annoyed about and Damian is like “???? Does this happen often????” Bruce brings him downstairs and Red Hood is still there, but making a grilled cheese with his helmet off.

“Jay, how many times do we need to tell you know masks in the house?”

“I dunno. How many fucking children are you going to adopt?” He gestures to Damian hiding behind Bruce.

“He doesn’t know yet, Jay. I was going to wait until he was more comfortable.”

Jason is a little sheepish because he did give the kid a bit of a fright, so he turns around to apologize and introduce himself. And instantly is like “holy shit, that’s a bio kid.”

“Language, Jay…”

“Don’t language me, where the fuck did he come from???”

“What is happening??!!” Damian finally yells.

And then Bruce shows him the BatCave.

Nora updated her bio on twitter and she listed out her books (TFC, TRK, TKM and Elysium)- i know what they are but what the hell is TSC? Any ideas? 🤨

New book?

At the moment, we don't know what TSC is!!

Some are speculating it could be a fourth AFTG book, some think (due to some tweets Nora made recently about finding songs that fit Jean and Jeremy's characters) that it might be a new spin-off book/series focusing on jerejean. Others think it might be a new, completely unrelated series altogether.

Personally, I am keeping my expectations low! I would LOVE for it to be a new book focusing on Jean's story and/or making jerejean canon, but the evidence for that is mostly just conjecture at this point. I would much rather be delightfully surprised than terribly disappointed if it turns out to be something other than what I had expected.

I also doubt it will be a continuation of Neil's story, and frankly if it is in the aftgverse I doubt it will follow the Foxes much at all. I'm fairly certain (though don't quote me on this bc I haven't read most of the EC myself) Nora had previously talked in her EC about how there were the beginnings of a fourth book at one point, but that she decided to scrap it because she was already happy with the series' existing ending.

At this point, there is a lot we don't know. What we do know is that Rainbow Crate is teasing us with special edition hardcovers of the English versions, planned for release in early 2024. It's possible Nora's breadcrumbs are related to that, and it's possible that they are not. It's too soon to really speculate much yet. Only time will tell!

You ask in a monotone voice, looking up at your boyfriend who was hugging you from behind.

“I remember every word you say, love, but you have to specify for me to know which one you’re referring to.”

He holds you closer to him and you could feel his warmth seeping in through you. If this were you from 3000 years ago, you would’ve enjoyed his warmth and think of how lucky you were to have someone like him as your lover.

But now, it all just seems so…suffocating.

Ever since he’s been revived back by Senku and joining the Kingdom of Science, he has become more protective and possessive of you.

No, that’s not it.

He’s already shown that kind of behaviour long ago. Maybe you didn’t realize it 3000 years ago because you two just started going out but even before when Tsukasa still was in charge of his own empire, you could’ve at least noticed the red flags he was giving.

He constantly asked you to stay with him and won’t let go of you almost until the end of the day. Even when you were about to try to do something else, he would grab you and force you to sit on his laps.

His grip on you was gentle, but it was enough to make you stay and not move around too much.

You haven’t told this to anyone yet, not even Mirai, but you were actually…dreading the time when Senku will petrify him and revive him back.

All those times when Tsukasa was still in his cryogenic state, everyone kept encouraging you to stay strong and reassuring you that Senku will revive him back soon.

And you would always just reply to them with a wry smile and a “I’m fine,” so as to not worry them.

You originally had thought you were going to feel depressed about this whole ordeal too. But you never did.

In fact, you felt so…free. Almost as if a big burden had just been lifted from your shoulders. You were happy with that.

You actually even wished Senku never found the Petrification Weapon. You truly enjoyed the freedom that you felt. You wished it would stay.

But in the end, nothing ever stays.  

Tsukasa was revived and you are back in his grip once again.

You hated every moment of it.

“About being too protective of me! I was just going to help Gen with some of his work. I know you’re protective of me because you’re worried, but can you please just let me do something to help others?”

You finally break free from his hug and turn to him. Your eyebrows are crossed, showing how displeased you are with the whole situation.

“But if I let go of you, you’ll definitely run away from me.”

Your eyes widened at what he said. You didn’t expect him to feel that way. All this time, you had thought that the reason Tsukasa was so overprotective of you might’ve been because he was worried…or maybe even because he wanted to have control of you.

You went quiet for a moment. In a sense, he’s not wrong. But to actually know he felt that way…it’s actually making you feel guilty.

“Tsukasa….I won’t run away from you, so don’t worry, alright?”

You wrap your arms around his large frame, successfully convincing him that you won’t do something like that. He returns the hug and pulls you closer.

“…Y/N, if you truly mean what you said, will you forgive me for what I’m about to do?”

You pull away and look up at him, confused.

“Sure?”

Not even a second after that, you felt your consciousness slowly slipping away from you. You could hear the loud throbbing from your neck after Tsukasa just striked it.

“W-wh…”

You mustered up what little strength you have left to let out a “What?” but even that has proven to be difficult. All you managed to hear was Tsukasa’s last words before you completely lost your consciousness.

“Do forgive me for doing this, love. You’re too pure to be tainted by this dirty world.”

You slowly open your eyes to see the darkness greeting you. You tried to get up but your whole body felt so weak and your limbs refused to work for you. You cursed under your breath and tried to adjust your eyes to the darkness. The place sure seemed familiar.

Then it hit you.

It’s the prison.

You tried to scream out loud but your voice only echoed throughout the prison without anyone responding. You could feel your heart beating rapidly like never before as soon as you heard a series of footsteps nearing you.

It’s not as if you recognized the footsteps or anything, but the way the pace is so calm and unrushed even after your scream of help convinced you that the owner of the footsteps knew you’re trapped in there. And they’re not willing to let you out anytime soon.

He cut you off with those words and your eyes widened in horror at him. Your lips tremble and you try to hide your unease by glaring at him.

Before you could ask him what he meant, he spoke up as if he had just read your mind.

“I told them that you died. An animal attack, precisely. It’s completed with evidence and all. I did also get some helping hand from some people though. Couldn’t have done it without them.”

He stops for a moment to look at you who were frozen in your place and finally cups both your cheeks to bring it closer to him.

“This cell was built especially for you, back when I still ruled over my own empire. It’s located very deep into this cave, and no one would dare to come here.”

“You mean to say you’ve been planning to put me in confinement for a long time now?! What— I-”

Tsukasa looks at you, his eyes turning soft and he looks so melancholic. You almost snapped at him when you saw that expression. If anyone here is supposed to cry, it’s YOU, not him.

“I didn’t think it was necessary…until recently. When other people started looking at you as if you’re some kind of walking meat that they’re about to devour.  It disgusts me so much, and I couldn’t handle it anymore…so I made the decision to keep you safe here….and wipe those people out.”

hi, i've been out of work for over a month because of a neurological issue (probably. they haven't found anything yet.) which has pretty much cleared up, but all my other chronic issues have been flaring so badly i still can't go back to work. i've been trying to do some freelancing and online odd jobs but the most i've made doing that was like $12 in one day. i'm still looking for a remote job i can feasibly do, but right now i need to figure out how to pay my bills.

i have two credit card payments due, both overdue. my phone payment is due march 24th (i'm able to promise to pay or do a split payment on different dates and they won't disconnect my service, so i have a little wiggle room). my car payment is overdue. my storage bill is due april 9th

and i need to pay board & pay for feed for my horse. i've had her since 2017, she's retired because she's ancient and full of arthritis. when i adopted her, i could afford everything, and i have been struggling to ensure i can pay her board every month because retirement farms are just as expensive and i don't feel right selling her when i know it's extremely likely they'll just put her down. her name is ishka:

ishka's board is $450, plus her feed for the month ($150) for a total of $600. the barn manager has been very understanding and knows i'm out of work for medical reasons, but this is for march board and i really don't want to end up two entire payments behind. so anything towards march's board would be a huge relief

credit card #1 needs $175, due april 1st.

car payment needs at least $131. the total amount due right now is $263; $131 is the regular payment due (april 1st), so if i can at least get the regular payment covered, it won't add more to what i owe.

After he and his team unexpectedly lose, he starts to look through your account, and sees in your bio your streamer name with a link, such a normie thing to do.

He starts to stalk through your social media, and with a pain in his heart admits, that his defeat was recorded on your actual live, it's nothing he can't take down anyway.

Hm? You're streaming with a camera? Oh, how bold of you, but don't worry, he won't stop hacking your phone camera and microphone even after you beg for it, falling into paranoia.

It's your unlucky day, he took an interest in you, slowly treating you as a character from his beloved games. Your merch on the shelf, his phone littered with your photos and edits, a special spying program made by him personally, to see your activity on your devices.

Soon you're the only one he can think about, you, your voice, your hair, your face and your.. collarbones. Such an exciting sight for this shutted in otaku.

You have no idea how relieving it was for him, maybe his brother won't have to be alone? Of course not, you two live together already, should he plan your future with Idia already? Maybe you can date, and later on marry his brother! He's so happy!

Ugh, after my sickness I lost my enthusiasm and motivation to write even tho I had a lot of ideas😭(it's better since I added Roxana, but still). Miguel’s father, Alejandro, died when Miguel was five, leaving his mother, Michelle, to raise him, his brother, Vicente and his sister, Fatima. Miguel doesn’t remember his father much, but his mother took good care of him and his siblings. 

Miguel’s brother, Vicente, was a hard-working and ambitious young man, and was also Miguel’s best friend. Unfortunately, while out on a hunting trip, his family received a vision from Bruno foretelling his death, and he would die after falling from his horse entering back into the Encanto, at the age of 24. Miguel’s family was devastated, and Miguel harbored a deep resentment and hatred for Bruno for some time, before something happened that made him see the seer very differently. Soon, the two would unexpectedly become good friends, Miguel teaching the man to let go a little, and Bruno teaching Miguel how to appreciate quiet and solitude. 

In his mid-thirties, Miguel would become an apprentice for Hugo Aguinaldo, one of the best ceramicists/potters in the Encanto. Hugo would teach Miguel everything he knew, and would treat him like a son. He was even the first person Miguel would come out to. When Aguinaldo passed away, Miguel was heartbroken, but would be forever grateful to the man. 

Miguel is very happy to have Bruno back, but with his return, comes some new feelings to bubble to the surface…

Goals:

Oh god, I suppose I want to publish traditionally, but that's a looong way off. I'm way too busy right now and a broke college kid to boot. My more immediate goal is to get all my finished stuff beta read before I save up money for editing.

Productivity Tip:

Sometimes taking a break now means more productivity later. You can still work on your story if you aren't writing it. Draw, or make playlists, or even daydream. Eventually, you're gonna have to buckle down and do it, but don't be afraid to recoup your energy until then. You're an animal, and animals are meant to conserve as much energy as they can.

Current Project:

Currently, I'm writing the third and final book in the Mystery of the Mortal God series (not the actual series name, I haven't come up with one I like yet). I'm about 60 pages in and the action is finally starting, so I'm feeling good about it!

I saw the person before me gave out playlists, but all my playlists are in my bio already, so here's an open offer for story assistance. If you've got a fight scene you need help with, my eight years of martial arts experience might be able to help with that. If you've got some biological worldbuilding you need assistance on, I've gotta use this stem degree for something. I'm excited to finish writing Chapter 18 because there's a lot happening as Buck and Eddie get closer to their secret wedding day.

For anyone who hasn't read Chapter 17, here's a brief overview: Eddie and Chimney were in an accident and as expected, Buck didn't take it well but he had Eddie's back like he said he would and he took care of everything. After almost two weeks, Buck finally received a response from his bio dad but it wasn't the type of response he expected and Chris asked Eddie what would happen to him if Eddie would have died in the accident. He told him about the legal guardianship and the fact that Buck's moving in but they didn't tell him the rest.

They'll tie the knot before Christmas 2023 but they are NOT getting married in the U.S. and they won't have a wedding ceremony until May 2024. They revealed their relationship, their engagement and the fact that they're going to Europe to their found family during the 118's Thanksgiving dinner but they didn't tell them everything. No one knows they're getting married in six weeks, not even Chris because they haven't told him yet.

Who are they going to reveal their relationship, engagement and European vacation to in Chapter 18?

Here's a snippet from Chapter 18 of Buck and Eddie being romantically fluffy while they're in bed.

While they’re locked in an open-mouth kiss, Eddie repositions them so he’s on top and as they continue panting, moaning and gasping into it, their tongues tangle and they get lost in the feeling of being pressed together.

The kiss lasts for several minutes and the only reason they pull back is because they need to come up for air.

Once they do, Eddie talks against Buck’s lips and says, “Last night… you were supposed to teach me how to say some more Italian words”.

“You’re right, I was but um… you weren’t feeling well.”

“I’m feeling better now so… please teach me how to say something else.”

“Ok.  I have my first Italian lesson with Darmon today but uh… I’ve learned some more words while studying on my own.  We’re going to say something is wonderful or marvelous and babe… it has a rolled “R” in it.”  He replies with a big smile because he chose this word specifically for their lesson.

Eddie nods then deviously smiles.

“Repeat after me and say… Meraviglioso!”  He perfectly rolls his “R” when he pronounces the word.

“Meraviglioso.”  Eddie replies but he doesn’t roll his “R”.

Buck chuckles.  “Um… babe, I think you’re not saying it with the trill in the letter “R” on purpose.”

“You caught me.  But you know that I know how to roll my “Rs”.  Do you want me to remind you?”

Buck’s eyes widen and his irises turn dark blue, then he nods and says, “Yes!  Please… remind me”.

Eddie leans in and ferociously kisses him and when he repeatedly rolls his tongue, Buck feels like he’s in heaven.  He subconsciously bends his knees so Eddie can fully position himself in between his legs and when they break the kiss, he moves his face and presses his cheek against Eddie’s and whispers into his ear, “Eddie… ti amo con tutto il cuore!  Sei tutto per me.”

Eddie gasps and whispers back, “I love you with all my heart too but tell me what “Sei tutto per me” means.”

He moves his head so he can meet his eyes, then he emphatically responds, “You’re my everything.  That’s what “Sei tutto per me” means because you are my ever…”

He doesn’t get to finish because Eddie interrupts him with a kiss and when he does, they get lost in it.

Buck feels lightheaded but in a good way as Eddie reminds him that he does in fact know how to roll his “Rs” when he speaks Italian.  The euphoric high he feels is all because of his fiancé, Eddie Diaz who’s the love of his life.

When they pull back, he can see Eddie’s pupils are blown and he can no longer see the honey flakes that always sparkle in them.

“Ti amo Evan!”  Eddie whispers.

“Ti amo cosi tanto!”

What other Italian words will Buck teach Eddie now that they’re less than four weeks away from their wedding day? 👀

Fic Summary: Months after Buck and Eddie were hit by the same lightning strike; they’re still struggling with the aftermath of it.  But before they make their love confessions, they’ll spend time getting to know themselves as individuals first. Eddie learns to enjoy the simple things in life as he participates in activities on his own and with new friends while Buck learns the rest of the 31-year-old deep dark family secret about his conception and birth. Their journey to forever is still a work in progress but once they finally admit they’re in love with each other, everything that follows their love confessions will be cataclysmic.

Chapter 1 - Eddie makes a new friend while Buck receives devastating news regarding the sperm donation he made for Connor and Kameron.

Chapter 2 - Buck does a lot of research to learn more about the abnormalities found in his red blood cells and Eddie starts a new therapy journey that’s all about him and not the traumas he’s experienced.

Chapter 3 - After more than a month, Buck and Eddie finally spend time together outside of work but it doesn’t end well and they part with a lot of uncertainty regarding their places in each other’s lives.

Chapter 4 - Eddie has a few realizations about his life which causes him to consider moving back to El Paso, TX while Buck continues to be reminded of his past which causes him to take an impromptu road trip across America.

Chapter 5 - Both Buck and Eddie have difficult conversations with their parents and Buck finally learns the truth behind the reason why his mother despised him while Eddie finally tells his mother about the way she tries to control him.

Chapter 6 - More than two weeks after Buck pushed Eddie away after suggesting they needed a break; Eddie decides to try again. Eddie’s there for Buck when he’s at his worst just like Buck was there for him when he was at his worst and he won’t let Buck give up.

Chapter 7 - After Buck’s mental breakdown, Eddie has his back the same way Buck had his when he had his own breakdown more than a year ago.  They share several vulnerable and emotionally intimate moments with one another and they begin to realize their small, sweet and caring gestures matter just as much if not more than any grand gesture ever could because these are the foundations of a long-lasting love relationship.

Chapter 8 - Buck, Eddie and Chris all have their own therapists and during their sessions, they reflect on their pasts while they’re in the present so they can prepare for their future together as a family.

Chapter 9 - Buck and Eddie are there for each other when Buck has to testify as a witness during the trial.  But by the end of it, they’ll both realize their individual and shared traumas are going to keep resurfacing until they talk about them, deal with the fact that they’re in love with one another and face the fact that they can’t live without each other.

Chapter 10 - As Buck and Eddie finally begin to confront their past traumas, they realize how much they need each other to fill in the gaps of their memories.  Additionally, the universe screams at them for what appears to be the one hundredth time so Buck can realize he doesn’t have to ‘find it’ because he already ‘made it’ and Eddie’s reminded tomorrow isn’t promised and he doesn’t have to die alone if he doesn’t want to.

Chapter 11 - A “virga” or dry thunderstorm is in the forecast but once the rain starts, the thunderstorm happening outside won’t be able to match the storm brewing inside between Buck and Eddie.  It’s the universe’s final scream and when the tumultuous winds begin to blow, they’ll have one last chance to hold onto everything they’ve built over the last six years or they’ll lose it all forever.

Chapter 12 - Buck and Eddie have always shared a deep physical attraction and an emotional intimacy that’s unmatched but now that they’re in a relationship, they’re learning how to navigate the romantic intimacy they’ve been waiting for six years to explore. The love they have for each other is a once in a lifetime, soulmate, love of their lives type of love that transcends space and time.

Chapter 13 - While navigating the newness of their romantic relationship, Buck and Eddie take advantage of every moment they spend together. As their individual lives, people from their pasts, time constraints and the possibility of losing each other again make attempts to interrupt and interfere with their journey to forever, they love, care for, support and hold onto each other even tighter to withstand it all.

Chapter 14 - Buck and Eddie can see the lights at the end of the tunnels regarding the results of Buck’s Cancer Screening along with everything else they’re dealing with. But are the lights they see exits to the tunnels or are they headlights on different runaway trains that are speeding towards them in an effort to interrupt their forever?

Chapter 15 - Buck and Eddie have known they were exactly who the other one wanted in a partner since they met six years ago when they agreed to have each other’s backs. They’re in a romantic relationship, they’re both preparing to ask the other one to spend forever with them and by the end of the seventh week into their relationship, together they will plan their most important and greatest adventure for their future.

Chapter 16 - As Buck and Eddie begin to prepare for their marriage ceremony that will take place in Rome, Italy in December 2023, they start planning their first international adventure as a romantic couple. Even though Chris is still the only person they’ve told about their relationship, several people who know them have already witnessed the love they share and as the days continue, others will witness it too.

Chapter 17 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to departing Los Angeles for their international adventure, a moment in time will remind them; life is fragile, tomorrow isn’t promised and every second of everyday should be cherished because everything can change in an instant.  The result of that realization will cause them to hold onto each other even more.

Buddy Daddies future plot theories (ep 2 guy, Rei backstory, etc)

With two episodes of Buddy Daddies out, along with a good amount of promo material, that's enough to activate the part of my brain which loves constructing elaborate conspiracy walls with red string and frantic scrawling. So I've done a lot of theorising about what the rest of the plot has in store. This may all very well be proven completely wrong as soon as next episode, but it's fun to think about in the meantime!

Note: contains wild speculation, spoilers for episodes 1 and 2, information from various promotional materials

First off, there's the question of:

Episode 2 Edgelord

aka Ogino Ryo. We don't see a lot of him, but what we get is enough to convey that he's Bad News. Kugi reacts to him with immediate recognition, and a respectful wariness that indicates this guy is an established name in the business (and it's also significantly more distant and respectful than the way Kugi treats Kazuki and Rei, ha).

Kugi's caution seems warranted, given that this guy is apparently the kind of edgelord who goes around collecting people's last words. Fun fact: his gun is engraved with "I want nothing but death", which are reportedly Jane Austen's last words. He really commits to a theme, I guess.

From the partial glimpses we get of his face in the cafe and the post-ED scene, I think it's very likely that he is one of the characters we see in the OP - further evidence that he'll be pretty prominent from now on.

(EDIT: And he just got added to the character bios as well, though it mostly just confirms what we already knew: he’s a mean murder machine.)

(EDIT 2: The character bio got a stealth edit: turns out he’s “connected with the incident in which Kazuki's wife died”, and Kazuki doesn’t know this yet. He’ll definitely be introducing a whole lot of complications for our guys, then!)

So who is Ogino Ryo, exactly, other than an assassin who dresses like a businessman but has a secret gothic soul? My guess is that, narratively, he'll serve as an early-arc antagonist (a tutorial boss, you could say) - the first real threat we see Kazuki and Rei face in their job. It's also likely that he's connected to a larger organisation somehow, and the show will build up to showing us the real larger antagonist behind him, in a later episode.

And that larger antagonist might very well be...

Rei's Dad

Most of the information we have about Rei's father right now comes from promotional material, but even in the series itself, we can make some guesses about his characterisation from his son. I mean, look at Rei. That's not a guy who had a functional childhood.

And indeed, the official character bios (which I translated here) state that Rei was born into a large mob family, and his parents gave him assassin training ever since he was a child. Also, in the trailer, we hear Rei's father telling him, "Don't call me Father. I am your boss." So yeah, a real piece of work.

I think it's likely that he appears in the OP as well, as the man in the centre of this shot (with a gang of underlings at his command - Ogino Ryo might have been one at some point).

So it's very probable that Rei's father will be involved heavily in the plot in future, which makes a lot of sense - having Rei grapple with his feelings about his terrible mobster dad enhances the theme of found family versus blood family, and is a very convenient way to combine the family theme with the assassin storyline of "OH NO PEOPLE ARE SHOOTING AT US", all within a nice compact 13 episodes.

One reasonable way to bring Rei’s dad into the plot would be to have him give Kazuki and Rei a job. As for what this job could potentially be...

The "Traitor"

aka Satoru Kaji. Yeah, we're really going down the rabbit hole now. Satoru Kaji is not a character who has been formally introduced so far; he's made one fleeting appearance in the OP, at the bottom right of this shot:

As for the other people shown here, Atsushi Hayami, aka "big Guy Brokers" (what an amazing title, by the way; I want that to be my band name), is Miri's biological father, i.e. one of their targets. Mattie Caruso, the jeweller, is the unfortunate target at the start of episode 1 who was shot for interrupting Kazuki and Rei's marital tiff. Heihachiro Matsuda, in the pink shirt, is the episode 2 target whose golfing session was interrupted by their break-in. I don't think Kenji Terahashi has appeared yet.

But I do think we've seen Satoru Kaji - though not in the show itself.

In the aforementioned trailer, we see Rei having a one-on-one fight with a grey-haired man:

He has a pretty strong resemblance to the Satoru Kaji photo.

So who is this mysterious "traitor"? Who has he betrayed? Perhaps he was part of Rei's dad's organisation, and turned against them, and so Rei's dad hires Kazuki and Rei to assassinate him?

(EXTRA WILD CONJECTURE ALERT: As a side note, the same trailer also shows Kazuki having a one-on-one fight scene of his own. Maybe Kazuki's opponent is also associated with Satoru Kaji? This is an extra speculative guess, though; quite possibly they both just coincidentally have a fondness for light-coloured jackets and find Kazuki and Rei very annoying. But I just think "assassin duo vs assassin duo" would be a very fun concept.)

(EDIT after ep 3: this one is a no-go after the third ep; it’s a pity, but it was a long shot anyway. Still keeping my fingers crossed that we might get some sort of assassin duo vs assassin duo action down the line!)

So what does it all mean?

It's anyone's guess how all these pieces fit together, but here's one possibility I see:

The first arc of the series is setup, establishing Ogino Ryo as tutorial boss, and his ties to some more powerful entity. This arc will probably have more episodic or one-off missions, balanced with Kazuki and Rei getting used to parenting.

Rei's dad gets introduced towards the end of the first arc.

After the first arc, we get a brief happy family interlude, where Kazuki and Rei have sort of figured out things like "daycare" and "not letting your kid play with guns". This might also be when the flash-forward takes place (the scene at the start of episode 1, where they assassinate the jeweller).

The second half of the series disrupts their relatively peaceful family life. Theoretically, this is when Rei's dad might give them the job to assassinate the "traitor". This overarching plot could also be related to the jewellery smuggling, since we know the jeweller was working for someone else, and Kazuki was insistent on them taking the mission. Maybe this seemingly throwaway incident will actually turn out to be important enough to come back in future?

(And while I'm putting all my wildest dreams out there, I'd just like to note that I think 13 episodes is the perfect length to have a flashback episode mid-series - the first 6 episodes as the setup arc, episode 7 as a full flashback showing Kazuki and Rei's backstories and how they met, and the last 6 episodes as the Shit Is Getting Very Real plot. But that is just my ideal, and I have zero evidence to believe this will happen. I can only hope, as with all of this.)

Naturally, it is also possible that all this means nothing, and I will be a massive clown. But we've covered that.
