Sorry I've been draculaposting so much today but can we take a moment to appreciate this interaction from the novel (keep in mind this is literally a few hours after these two first met)

Jack: (venting to his wax cylinders)

Mina: Omg it's a phonograph I've always wanted to see one of those!

And then Mina proceeds to listen to every cylinder and transcribe the whole thing on her typewriter while Jack reads both Mina's and Johnathan's entire diaries and after that he shows her how to use the phonograph and they talk about how cool Lucy was, and we keep intercutting between both narrations and they're both so hyped to have finally met someone else who's keeping a detailed record of this whole mess. There are so many relationships and interactions that get cut for time in most adaptations but I think the instant friendship between the two diary nerds that were narrating basically the entire story for us since before they ever even knew about each other is the one I'm saddest to see ignored.

Stop making Dracula into some tragic human-vampire forbidden love story and start making it about how the entire crew of light all become besties within minutes of meeting each other goshdarnit.

main take aways from Halloween (1978) rewatch:

outside of the fact that everyone who has sex is murdered by the narrative, this is a surprisingly chill portrayal of female sexuality? these teen girls are horny and actively enjoying Getting It On with their boytoys. no pushy boyfriends sneaking in through their bedroom windows--these ladies are taking the initiative to sneak out and GET SOME. one of them gets laid and then immediately orders her boyfriend to get her a beer. (yes she gets Slashered soon afterward, but so does the boyfriend so honestly, gender equality.) yes the Final Girl is the only one not having sex, but she's not bullied for that, nor are her friends slut shamed except possibly by being murdered by the narrative

actually the only character who is shown being morally condemned on-screen is michael myers. specifically FOR his violent overreaction to other people's sex lives. (people he is spying on). metaphorically, the villain is American Puritanism sticking its judgy nose into other people's business.

but actually the real villain is the doctor. guy's a judgemental, shaming, pathologizing asshole. and he's been in charge of michael's care since he was SIX YEARS OLD? kid never had a chance. i'd go on a killing spree too

also the parents. where are the parents? it's halloween night and all the teenage girls are home babysitting their younger siblings? come to think of it, michael's first victim was his own older sister, whom he killed while she was babysitting him. teen girls are really shouldering a labour burden here. maybe parentification is the true villain

side note: mike commits his first murder wearing a clown costume...which is never referenced again? his 'iconic' costume is a generic mask and wig and jumpsuit, when we coulda had a Killer Clown Michael Myers??? travesty

i like how the Final Girl and her friend casually smoke weed in her car. yeah she's an honor student and her friend is the sheriff's daughter. yeah they smoke weed. so what it's 1978

(to reiterate, mike is 21 and should be at the club. im not saying he shouldn't be rampaging, im saying it's sad that he broke out, tasted freedom for the first time in his life, and immediately snuck back into his childhood home to go rampaging. let's have a remake where he goes to a nightclub and has a few beers. maybe some slutty dancing. then rampage)

I used to be scared of heights as a child, I got over it by reworking my brain. It's not the distance to the ground that's important, it's the distance to your ground. Maybe your ground is the swing your sitting on, the large playground equipment that's taller than you, the top of a slide. Maybe your ground is the top floor of an office, the seat of a commercial flight, the roof of a building.

So now imagine two characters, 1 being afraid of heights and 2 having wings. 1 is freaking out about the thought of being in the air before 2 reassures them, saying it's not the distance of the ground to be scared of. It's the distance to 2. 2 is their new ground. As long as 2 is right there, it's safe.

The first time James met Regulus, he accidentally turned Peter into a half-teapot hybrid. It may have been because he was thirsty and wishing for tea, or perhaps because the younger Black sibling was more charming than he thought he’d be. Who could say. But he was startled enough to magic his friend into sprouting a handle and spout on either side of his torso, and Remus had to escort a wobbly Peter to the staff carriage on the Hogwarts Express to be turned back into a person.

Sirius couldn’t stop laughing, at least until he seemed to realized James was studying his brother a little too closely. Were James’ giant eyeglasses failing him? He was staring like he couldn’t see clearly. Or perhaps James was truly seeing what was in front of him for the very first time.

so uh. I’ve already started with vague ideas for Misadventures SMP Jimmy’s design. maybe post this a week or so after it was sent (3/22/2025) just in case of spoilers but idk

okay so. The poppies are as a reference to empires S1 because I couldn’t think of anything else for that. The Firewheel is a reference to S2 because apparently they can grow in the desert. Reasoning for the references are because due to Jimmy’s reactions to the crypts of everyone. Especially the visceral reaction to “The Sheriff” and him saying “could’ve used my right name” for The CodFather / CodBoy. Anyways. The peonies are for the pink in his house. I’m normal I swear

grian's wings are clipped, have been clipped for a very, very long time. clipped so long he forgets how it felt to soar. who or what clipped them is a mystery.

jimmy's wings are damaged beyond repair. they can never fly, no one knows if he ever got a chance to use them. he wears braces on them so he can at least move them, just a little bit, to fold behind his back.
