Dan.. wasn't sure where he was. One moment he was right besides Rorschach, getting ready to leave for patrol, and the next he was smack dab in the middle of an alleyway.

That itself would have been weird enough, enough to start to panic, but there were two other factors that had Dan fluffing up his feathers and digging his claws into the concrete below him.

One, Rorschach wasn't next to him. But more importantly- He couldn't feel the city.

As literal representatives of their city, Rorschach and Nite Owl were quite literally connected to said city. So not feeling the city under his feet, not feeling the beating heartbeats of everyone who walked among their streets was.. disorienting, to say the least.

With his wings stretching to make himself seem bigger as he tried to calm himself, the panicked city aspect leaned against the nearby brick wall. All the while, low burbles of bird noises slipped from his mouth.

Hob leans against the doorframe, watching with a fondness as Dream studies himself in the bedroom mirror. He's dressed in a grey shirt, and those absolutely criminal skinny jeans he found at the shops last week.

He has the hem of his shirt pulled up to his chest, staring at the line of dark hair on his belly. Fingers lightly grazing it occasionally.

Dream has been retired for a few months now and is always discovering new parts of his body that he'd never noticed before, much to Hob's delight. And sometimes embarrassment, though most of that had been quickly squashed soon after Dream had shown up to Hob's flat.

"Hello handsome."

Dream's head snaps up, startled, from where he had been focused. He makes no move to pull his shirt down, Hob notices.

He walks up behind Dream to wrap his arms around him, resting his head on his lover's bony shoulder. Dream relaxes into his hold.

"What were you doing?" Hob turns and kisses his neck.

Dream runs a finger over his own abdomen. "I noticed it earlier this morning. While I was changing my clothes. I'm not certain how I feel about it."

"That's okay." Hob tightens his arms around him. "I can show you how to shave it, if you'd like. Or we can look into something else to get rid of it."

Dream nuzzles into his hair. "What about you?"

"Hmm?"

"Do you like it?"

Hob moves a hand down to run his fingers along Dream's fuzzy abdomen. He shivers in his arms.

He noses behind Dream's ear, "I love it, duck."

Dream turns in his arms to capture his lips in a searing kiss, one hand coming up to bury itself in Hob's hair, the other resting on his chest.

Hob walks them over to the bed, gently pushing Dream down onto it, breaking their kiss slightly before he climbs onto the bed as well, hovering over his lover.

"Truly?"

Hob runs his thumb across a cheekbone. "Truly, dove. I love every part of you."

Dream smirks, "How much?"

"Cheeky thing. I'll show you how much."

Hob kisses at Dream's cheeks and neck as he makes his way down his body. Dream's body lurches as he reaches up to snatch a pillow for his head. Once a king, always a king. Hob snorts and Dream lightly smacks at his head in response.

Hob acquiesces to his lover's will, pulling Dream's shirt up to kiss and lick at the newly discovered hair there, following it down to where it disappears under his jeans.

Fin.

Summary:

When James breaks up with Lily, she is fine. She has plenty of things to distract her from it and it barely hurts. Until it does and she makes a series of bad decisions. 1. Go drinking alone 2. Figure out the landline is connected 3-6. Call James and leave him a voicemail 7. Meet him for coffee. Or was that just what they needed?

There was something about the way he gazed at her, a sense of longing. Though his words were a stark contrast. “Now, don’t get ahead of yourself, Lils. We’re still having coffee.” followed by a change in topic, 

Okay, so it was not just her that felt it then. That tug, that heat that brewed between them, something that she had pushed down until last night brought them crashing through all the boundaries she had carefully built over the time that they'd been apart. 

For some reason, she could simply not get him out of her system. 

“Tell me about your internship and how bloody boring it is.” A friendly topic, nothing she could read into there. Putting them firmly in friendly. 

Laughing at his joke, a little too high-pitched, a little too eager. Thinking to herself that she was losing it, slowly. He was just undoing her just by sitting there, just by playing into the things she said.

Just as she was about to answer, James added: “After that, we can talk about how you find yourself daydreaming about having a quick one with me in the ladies’ room of a coffee shop.” he wasn’t even trying to be subtle anymore with this. Expertly pushing her buttons and pulling her strings.

Rorschach lightly grumbled to himself as he paced the roof. He didn’t know how he got here, nor did he know where his partner was.

The only thing he did know, was that this wasn’t his city.

The lifeblood of this city didn’t pump through his veins, he couldn’t reach out and feel the traffic surge through his streets, he couldn’t tilt his head back and smell the town’s beating nightlife. He couldn’t even feel his partner’s location.

And that simple fact caused something akin to adrenaline to rush through his system.

His mask shifted, something similar to a fang pressing against his face as he moved. He wanted, no needed, to get off this roof, to press into this city and find out where Nite Owl had gone- but he couldn’t. He didn’t have the capability, this wasn’t his city.

It was too confusing, everything was too confusing. The nature of this strange city, his almost completely disconnection from his actual city, slowly but surely pushed him closer and closer to ferality.

So all he did was pace.

Just pace, and pace, and pace.

Favorite in the one that makes me snicker? Any version of “no beta we die like (insert joke here)” mne, Stregobor should have, etc. Love them all. Hilarious.

For favorite as in the one I love to see for reading reasons, my first instinct was “probably angst with a happy ending”. I enjoy some good angst, as long as it’s not overwhelming and I know things will end happy.

But then I decided to check my AO3 bookmarks and see what the top additional tag was, cause wouldn’t that tell me what my favorite tag truly was….?

Hurt/comfort. Which, yeah, that tracks. It’s often paired with the angst with a happy ending tag anyway lol.
