A kid at church today was sulking under a table blocked off by chairs that he couldn't get to play with this Optimus prime toy they had in a cabinet and when I asked him if he was willing to wait for it after the service or if maybe he had some toys at home he said he didn't and church was the only place he could play with one, and Optimus prime is his favorite character ever. I told him we couldn't let him play with it now, but if he was willing to wait until later when there were fewer kids he could take it for a spin. He was still sitting under the table but he wasn't frowning anymore. He told me about dinosaurs. His favorite is the allosaurus. He came out from under the table for a second just to mimic its roar. I said yooo that's sick my favorite is the pterodactyl. I mimed a screech (my dinosaur knowledge is very limited, alas). He crawled out from under the table and started clawing at the air, doing his best impression of a dinosaur. It was very cute. I think he likes dinosaurs almost as much as he likes Optimus prime. Then he ran off to play with the other kids

All the jokes about Ken and horses are good but I just wanna say it's such a good parallel to how actual young men get swept into misogyny and the patriarchy.

Like they're told to believe it means men get to be cool and manly and have this power but with that comes extremely rigid commands of what they can be as a man and a cycle of self hatred for never matching those gender roles perfectly. Patriarchy tells men that if they just do exactly what is expected of them, then they get all the "cool stuff" that comes with. That doesn't work though when there's only a small group that actually gets that power, but men will keep trying to fit into those roles in hopes that they can.

In the end there are no horses or the myth men are told, it's just endless cycles of self hatred and ingroup fighting.

I wouldn't be saying this if we were just getting scenes of Zuko touching Katara's scarf or Oma and Shu being red/blue. That'd just be your average baiting.

It's that Kataang's moments are being NERFED. He wasn't there during the secret tunnel. He didn't side with her when Pakku was being sexist. She wasn't the first person he saw after he woke from the iceberg. She didn't ground him out of the Avatar state.

Nothing has been added to substitute those vital moments.

The best part?

It's still believable for Aang to be into Katara. Just not for Katara to be into him.

Because they had some "moments" and enough for a twelve year old boy to catch feelings or misinterpret as being something more meaningful and project undertone upon. Which could cause him siding with Pakku because HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT KATARA NEEDS OR WANTS.

Katara, realistically, wouldn't forget that and might hold a grudge.

And is there anything more Zutara than pointing out that Aang is twelve, actually?

Meanwhile, Zutara is getting subtle, bait-esk (or just bait) content which makes sense because it is the first season and the writers don't have much to work with yet. If they build on the Zutara angle in this way in future seasons, that wouldn't just be smart but would save us from a shoehorned Kataang.

I still hope they keep Aang's love for Katara and I want similar for Mai and Zuko, but wouldn't it be great if Aang got to see Katara as more than a romantic interest and for Mai to realize her Zuko (which may have never existed, similarly as Aang's Katara) is gone and she doesn't fit into his life anymore?

I think that'd be nice. Interesting even.

Oh, and Netflix, if you need any points for representation make Sokka have a bi awakening with Zuko only to find the boy is straight and into his sister, because that's my experience genderbent and I would feel very represented. And Tyzula for the win.

thinking about steve getting kinda, sorta. jealous. that billy’s been with other guys while he, himself, has no experience in that area.

maybe it’s as they’re hanging out in steve’s room, a couple months or so into them fooling around and. they’re just lying there, on the bed. steve staring at that mark on his ceiling from when he threw a baseball in fourth grade only for it to come right back down and give tommy h a black eye and billy, well.

billy’s just talking. telling steve all about his- past endeavours. about those guys under the boardwalk and his friend who kissed him and stuck a hand down his pants when they broke into some dilapidated house to smoke shitty weed and that other guy who really knew what to do with his fingers if you know what i mean, stevie and.

steve can’t stand it anymore ‘cause. it sucks to think someone’s made billy feel better then he has, than he knows how to, so. he just-

it’s too sudden. too loud. even over the mixtape billy gave steve a week ago with the excuse that steve needs better taste.

and billy just sits there, eyes bugging out as a tinny guitar riff bleeds into the quiet of the room ‘cause. “what?”

but steve’s not having it.

“it’s totally different.”

“right.” billy grins, unable to help himself. “so.”

steve sits up. on his knees. leans forward, one hand on the bed beside billy’s waist and the other inching its way up beneath the hem of those shorts steve has a love hate relationship with.

and it’s billy’s turn to flush. freckles fading beneath pink as steve’s index finger rubs circles just south of his hip. let’s out a stuttering breath that ends in yea’okay as he reaches up to pull off his tank. teeth making little indents in his bottom lip as steve stares.

and steve’s a good student, right? well. maybe not in class but. with billy laid out all pretty under him, touching. talking, well. steve’s pretty sure he could get himself an A+ on listening and attentiveness alone.

no because m still confused at everyone saying this is a bad/boring event. Every Single Server Wide Event these past 6 months have been very lore and riddle focused, with a minor focus on pve during those lore events. it felt unbalanced. the admins have stated before that they want to do events for all playstyles. this is our First Time getting a proper server wide event for a different play style.

the pvp guys need their enrichment too. there is still lore and riddles in this event but thats the minor focus! and thats okay! sometimes other playstyles need to be accommodated and have a place where everyone knows its gonna happen! main island has a gentlemans agreement to not go stupid go crazy between the islanders and that makes it boring for the pvpers. sure they Can set up their own little scuffles with rules but theres something fun about The Hunt that you cant do on main island.

the pvp guys dont get to show off a lot in events. a lot of them dont participate in the lore events point blank OR they get assigned to pve clean up duty while the loreheads get to learn secrets. if you arent able to find entertainment in this event its okay to stop watching for two weeks! ur fellow fans will keep you updated on here/twitter/discord.
