i see a lot of people talking about how awesome it is that countries are singing in their own languages at esc and that there should be a year where everyone has to sing in their native language, and then they add “and the uk should have to pick a language from a different country” and i just want to take this opportunity to remind you that the uk does, in fact, have multiple indigenous languages that we would be able to choose from other than english: scots, scottish gaelic, welsh, irish, cornish and manx. most of them are vulnerable to some degree, and two of them (cornish and manx) have been revived from extinction as a first language. just imagine how awesome it would be to see a song in one of those languages.

#so first of all i'm not jewish.#but i feel like i occupy a relatively weird position with respect to judaism.#because the neighbourhood in which i grew up was like...30-50% jewish?#it was jewish enough that the local families requested and got a hebrew immersion programme at the local elementary school#that operated in parallel to the english programme that i attended#and about half of my friends growing up were jewish.#and so i absorbed a lot of the surface-level details of the religion by a sort of osmosis#like...i knew the dates and significance of the various jewish holy days#and i knew a smattering of phrases in hebrew (phonetically); most of them apparently quite rude#and we occasionally did jewish religious songs in choir (some of them admittedly lifted from the 'Prince of Egypt' soundtrack)#and once when i was in high school i was on a trivia team; and we asked a run of questions about judaism;#and i was the only one who knew them even though (i swear to god) i was the non-Jewish player on either team#(and then when i was much older i almost married a jewish enby and i would even have tried to convert for them#but our relationship fell apart for unrelated reasons)#but one of the things that was drilled into me when i was growing up (by my dad who grew up under similar circumstances)#was that you don't criticise Israel; it's antisemitic to criticise Israel#(which made for a lot of fraught moments as a teenager given that i was watching the second Intifada on the news)#and the thing is even now in the face of what seems pretty unambiguously to be a genocide against the Palestinians#i find that i'm more circumspect about criticizing israel than i would be just about any other country under the same circumstances#like i was writing things like 'fuck saudi arabia' when they were murdering houthis in yemen#but 'fuck israel'?#even though a little harsh language is least of what that regime deserves#ugh#i feel like i'm privy to the death of a dream that was never even mine.#personal#religion

just curious, do you only take english song requests, or would you be open to doing songs in other languages?
oh, I do whatever honestly - though my queue is run by someone with zero executive function and little to no planning ability (me), so when I choose a request to fulfill it's just like...kinda based on vibes?
which is to say: feel free to request non-english songs! absolutely! but as with any song, I can make no promises that I will actually do them, because there is no order to things, it's just kinda ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A music game again! ⸜( *ˊᵕˋ* )⸝ I was tagged by the lovely @troubled-mind as always thank you!
RULES: put 5 songs you actually listen to, then tag 10 people.
Exciting because I have been back on discovering a lot of new stuffs this week, so please have my most recent favorites:
TỪNG LÀ by VŨ CÁT TƯỜNG
youtube
So I stumbled upon this thread about Vietnamese he/him lesbians musicians on twitter, and I have spent my whole evening digging into those discographies (they made a spotify playlist too). While my fave in the list so far is Gil Lê, I am a sucker for bossa nova sounds and I know this one will loop in my headphones for a while.
EENIE MEENIE by CHUNG HA 청하 (Feat. 홍중(ATEEZ))
youtube
These days I mostly discover new kpop songs around here, but I stumbled upon this one on twitter (again!) somehow, and I've been looping it non stop in the last two days. I love that little bass line/sound at the start, and that chorus really does it for me!
ダリア (Dahlia) by ちゃんみな
youtube
We're staying with women artists. I love her voice, and the way she transition between singing and rapping. I am not (yet) very familiar with her work but I've been loving this one a lot.
Chosen Family by Rina Sawayama & Elton John
youtube
Guess who has two thumbs and hasn't recovered from She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat?? This song is just beautiful, and while I still have a slight preference for her solo version, I've also been listening to this duo a lot.
Antinoüs by Hervé Cristiani
youtube
Yeah, I'm afraid there was no way to get out of this one without a slightly weird/unknown French song. This one has wormed its way into my brain since the start of the month. It's about Emperor Hadrien's grief after the death of his young lover Antinoüs. I really like his voice, and I find the lyrics especially poetic.
If you feel so inclined, as always, I will tag @iguessitsjustme @bengiyo @petrichoraline @lurkingshan and @scienceoftheidiot, And as always, if you see this consider urself tagged (and tag me back so I can check your music faves („• ᴗ •„) )

Okay, if I had to simplify my gender into one song, it would absolutely have to be Libiamo ne' lieti calici. Like, I am going absolute feral right now. Do you see this vision of mine.
