see this is where I have fun with creationists because, if you're careful, you can string them along a whole conversation by talking about birds and saying dinosaurs, and it takes FOREVER for them to realize what's happening and get mad

Hero listened, head down, as Villain made the call in another room.

Sitting in a cold, metal chair with their arms bound behind them, it was all they could really do. They shivered slightly, the room was colder than the chair.

Villain's voice drifted in from the other room. "Notice you're missing anything?"

Silence as the person on the other end of the line who Hero presumed to be Superhero responded.

"Yes, yes, we do have your precious little Hero. And we'll promise their safe returns if you give us the plans."

A pause. "...What do you mean?"

Another moment of silence, and Villain snorted. "So you're not going to come get them? Fine by me. But I can't promise they'll be all in one piece by the time you change your mind."

A beep as Villain hung up, then the sound of their footsteps as they walked confidently into the room Hero was being held in. Their shadow fell across Hero, but they didn't look up.

"Well, it looks to me like your friend Superhero isn't going to come help you." Villain's feet appeared at the edge of Hero's vision as the criminal approached. "They said something like, 'you don't have them, they have you.'"

A hand in Hero's hair, their head was suddenly yanked backwards to meet Villain's gaze. Hero managed to keep in their cry of surprise.

"If this is what you're like, however." Villain hissed, leaning closer. "Then I'm sure I can handle it."

Hero just grinned, flexed.

The metal cuffs binding their hands behind the the chair snapped.
