Whether they liked it or not, Asterope had come from a long line of terrible people named after stars. Asterope, herself, was named after a star, meant to outshine her peers however they were always falling short when it came to living up to the expectations of their family. She always felt like an exception in her family of exceptional people, they would never shine as bright as the rest of them. But the thing about stars is that they’re doomed to burn out and collapse and Asterope would not be an exception to this because that’s what happens to stars and that’s how the prophecy has to go . . .

07.03.23 ⸺ the new and improved rewrite of make them gold now titled 'so much for stardust' (everybody say thanks to fall out boy's new banger of an album for giving me all the inspiration i have for my stories now) will be coming out on july 3rd!! i'm super excited to show you the new version because my writing has improved so much since i started this story/series in 2016 and i've fixed so many plot holes and other terrible things i wrote as a teenager. i know i should probably let this fic die by now BUT i'm too invested in finishing this story so y'all have to suffer with me but not really because i'm super happy writing this new version and i hope anyone who sees this post or has read the old version of make them gold is excited for it as well!!

Asterope Malfoy had always wanted nothing more than to make herself gold, whether it meant being her parents' golden child or breaking free from her family's extremely dark and shockingly evil reputation. After being sorted into Hufflepuff, Asterope chose the latter of options, she changed her name, disowned herself from her family, and did everything her family wouldn't do. The last thing she wanted or needed was to wind up in the Triwizard Tournament, have a year long identity crisis, all the while falling in love with her best friend Neville Longbottom.

When Asterope finds out that the Triwizard Tournament is coming to Hogwarts, she knows something terrible is doomed to happen. Especially with Harry Potter in attendance but she doesn't expect herself to be caught up in this tournament of imminent death because she's just plain old Asterope... Isn't she? A storm is brewing and standing at the middle of it all is Asterope. Everything before this had been the calm before the storm, and the eye of the hurricane reveals itself to be a truth that's been hidden for thirteen years — she isn't who she thought she was, no, she's who she dreaded to be. And she is the hurricane.

so it's canon ( my canon ) that asterope malfoy is going to fight albus dumbledore ( and by fight i mean she's going to punch him once in a blind fit of rage ) ( and he totally deserves it ) and honestly now i'm starting to think she should also fight snape, like physically, because she'd never win against him ( or dumbledore ) with magic. like my hate for snape is just getting higher and higher and it's not like i'm nice to him in any of my fics, i just don't have him interact with asterope. think i might change that so she can punch in right in his greasy face.

( in the old version, she tries to punch snape's nose at the end of third year ( chapter one ) but i ended up changing it.

also maeve macleod, our resident squib mother, fights snape on multiple occasions in her book.
