What are you thoughts on this old controller? While the uploader finds it a hard sell, I can see the appeal of it as it still offers mouse precision for aiming while also having analog movement. It'd take getting used to, but it's superior to contemporary controllers in some ways. The main problem I see is that it's left handed while most people are right handed. If this were mirrored and updated for USB I could see it having some success for pro gamers.
Postscript: I would use one of these if I could find a usb version for a good price

I've gotta put my heart at peace I'm never gonna "pull" I'm never gonna "flirt" and "get a partner" in a normal way. if i ever end up romantically entangled it's because a pre established couple in my friends group somehow gets charmed by my weird vibes and endearingly strange behaviour and asks me to join in on what they've already got going on.

To celebrate OFF's 17th birthday, here's my Puppeteer design! I'll do my player design someday.
Just a bedsheet ghost with a bat and some cloth dolls. They can create orange strings at will to control their creations. They're not the talking type, more of an action entity. They can be quite the hooligan, knocking down things with their bat or ominously hanging their dolls on trees. The Batter keeps their cloth dolls and cuddles with them when no one's looking. They like to draw and go outside on rainy days.
They may be mysterious and childish, but don't underestimate them, they have a small yet willing baseball player ready to chew on kneecaps. And don't look under that sheet. Give them ribbons or and they'll give you bows or other trinkets.

I wanted to say, regardless whether you are American or not, I know a lot of you are feeling hopeless and frustrated right now, between everything that's going on in the world and this is apparently being past the last straw on the camel's back, but please remember to take care of yourselves
there is a lot of suffering in the world between wars, genocide and famine, and leaders that refuse to do anything about it or even actively encourage it
It's not wrong to want to take a break and find something to smile about, nor does any of it invalidate your own suffering
Help where you are able to, and when you can of course, and remember to reach out to your loved ones when things start to get too much
I know some people feel bad for using resources or for trying to find ways to cheer up because "It's a luxury some people can't afford" but I am telling you they are not luxuries, they are necessities. The tragedy of these events isn't people not being able to access luxuries, it's being denied necessities
so as sort of harsh as this sounds, do not deny yourself your necessities because it helps no one in this situation; it's just one more person suffering in this entire mess. you cannot be expected to help or care for anyone if you're too burned out to do so.
Please take care of yourselves.

Something I've realised is a common thread in games I enjoy is the player character regularly encountering gods, nearly immortal all-powerful beings, and/or personifications of powerful natural forces...
Killing the shit out of them
And then turning the remains into weapons (usually a gun of some sort).

it's very difficult for me to critique the frontiers dlc gameplay because i am so so so bad at sonic games. the question is consistently "is this game design janky or are my hands just too clammy"

i am just being picky here but i feel like i keep seeing a reticence to create new things, not just in the fact that most npcs are cameos and the fact that a lot of the worldbuilding we know is just getting reframed, but also in the little things.
i think about it every time i look at the lighthouse monuments. “the warrior: a paragon who was the first woman in the warrior caste” and no one came up with a name?? same with the book bellara’s writing where the main character is just called “the hero.” idk man, i like getting details for shit that doesn’t matter

being a huge fan of tlou but also like. thinking that certain stories are built for certain mediums. like the entire theme of tlou2 is grounded and fresh because it’s a railroad/story video game that still affords you mechanical choices in how you navigate the world. i just don’t have a lot of confidence that presenting that story in a tv show with the minimal adjustments that they did in s1 will be fulfilling or compelling in any comparable way. because with tlou1 some of the like. beauty of that story was simply that it was such an emotive story contained in the medium of video games. and some of that was retained just by hitting similar or expanded emotional beats in the show, like the episodes that expanded on the life of the characters and the realities of that world. but truly so much of tlou2 emotional depth and ‘why does this story matter’ rests in the fact that’s it’s your hands on the controller, continually choosing to go forward in the story and have hope that it will work out in your-as-ellie-or-abby-or-somehow-booth’s favour. and you simply cannot get that in a non-interactive medium like television. like i do think tlou2 is a good story but it’s a good story because of the investment required by the player to keep pressing buttons and keep returning and to feel the adrenaline like responses of high intensity moments and be jarringly shifted into backstories that only increase the frustration. in general i’ve been thinking a lot about cross-medium adaptation and on the one hand i am glad that season 1 makes the story of the last of us more accessible to people who wouldn’t pick up a video game but it’s also like. maybe instead we can destigmatize video games as this inaccessible and dangerous medium a bit more instead of just . implicitly agreeing . like no maybe your mom won’t pick up a video game controller and play the last of us . but maybe you can play the game in the living room. sometimes the mediums that stories are told in aren’t just important but are actually foundational parts of how the information of a story is conveyed and that’s not only okay but is fucking fantastic. we should be happy actually that there are so many ways to collect a bunch of themes and ideas and put them together and hold them out to someone else and say “won’t you consider this with me. won’t you feel these emotions and care about these characters with me.”
#i’ve been thinking about this both for academic and personal reasons#where like. my thesis literally includes discussion of tlou2 and it’s profundity because of the players position as in control but without#real decision making power in the story#and it’s like. you’re the person animating these two ptsd ridden women who subject themselves to be puppets to their#own grief . and there’s something particularly resonant about the fact that you can’t change the Story. you can only play it.#and like . i’ve talked with my mom a lot about the last of us#since i played it the first time and it really just rocked my shit. and i remember walking out my bedroom after i’d finished tlou2#feeling that odd mixture of empty and completely fulfilled by a good story with tears in my eyes#and a few years later when i visited home and had happened to bring my ps4 along with me and i was having a rough time#my mom asked if i’d want to show her tlou. because she knew i loved it and because i’ve told her it has tropes she’d enjoy#but the only games she’ll ever play are point and click because she’s stubborn and some physicality stuff#but like i remember sitting on the couch just. playing this game and it wasn’t the exact same as her playing it herself . but sometimes her#commentary was like it was.#i just. idk man. tlou lover wants to be hyped but seeing the exact same visuals from the game just in tv show format is like#. what’s the point. why are you distilling the themes by removing the active (non)agency of the player and#replacing it with the passive role of ‘watcher’ in a story so emphatically about having an active role in the action#anyway#tagging this#tlou#for blog organization but this isn’t discourse or whatever just me thinkin my thoughts on my blog

I can't really recommend Fields of Mistria to people yet bc it's early access and most people I know prefer to wait until the full game has come out, but it's like.... all I'm doing these days. I come home from work and play Fields of Mistria for 4 hours. This is like.... the perfect beautiful farm sim I've waited for my whole life.
#anntics#I know I'm being very vague... listen. the controls and gameplay are intuitive and comfortable. the walk speed is fast#they have all of the standard farm sim elements (farming ranching fishing mining foraging etc.)#fishing is kind of animal crossing style (you see the fish they see your bobber nibble nibble BITE press button get fish no minigame)#the art and character portraits are beautiful. very 80s/90s anime inspired.#the characters themselves are interesting and fun to interact with & there's TONS of dialogue about literally everything#donate an item to the museum and someone will comment on it. complete a story request and people will talk about it.#ship a new type of crop and the owner of the general store will send you a thank you letter with a recipe that uses the crop#see a heart event with a character and other people will say something to you about it later#also all characters have 4 seasonal outfits and romanceables have a 5th outfit they wear at the beach#idk. for an ea game it feels sooo detailed and well made. I have a lot of respect for the crazy amount of work and time and care put into it#you can put accessories on your animals. not my thing but it's pretty neat#the story is interesting and fun and it really integrates your character into the community and makes you feel like you're a part of it all#also and this is maybe an odd comment but it's something I really care about#they have kid characters that are actually cute and fun and interesting and I actually care about them#Vincent & Jas & all those little harvest moon kids mean nothing to me and they never have and never will#but Dell Luc and Maple? obsessed. they've always got something going on#also everyone in town has really unique and interesting relationships with each other. it's all very dynamic. and cute. and funny.#oh. and you don't have to upgrade your house and buy a kitchen to start cooking. they let you use the one at the inn. it's free.#having a kitchen at your house is just more convenient. same for crafting tables & anvils for smithing. you can just do it in town#biggest complaint.... only one non thin romanceable character 😔#also there's an npc who looks kinda like my wife and he's not romanceable..... c'monnnnn

Since I'm sort of the Crosscode community's crosshair at the moment, I have a genuine question: is this game considered better suited for being played with a controller or a mouse & keyboard?
Also which one better for the long jump trick cause cheating is fun but I struggle with consistently pulling it off on mouse + keyboard.

Playing Potion permit for a few days straight and while I LOVE it, I also have alot of.... thoughts.
Like I love love love this game, genuinely sat down blink and it's been a month non stop.
So with that said...
Let's just narrow it to romanceable:
- look, I was so happy I could romance Victor (I loved him first and soooo glad I got this legit after the update).
- I like matheo purely out of spite and wanting to give him a frustrated kiss on the lips.
- WHY CAN'T I ROMANCE THE TWINS? specifically Collin???? Like hello????
- but like, also: Moira, Dev, Nova (I said what I said), Rinehart, Lucke, Yorn (god please legit first bestie I made I love him so much), hell Opalheart (anothe I said what I said), Derek or Dean! Freakin' Dan also! (Edit: I just found out that Dan and Dev are the same person- split personality? Huh????)
Just. Why is Rue an option???? I legit thought she was AT MOST 12. 😮‍💨
Anyway, idk maybe It's because I just started actually romancing but it feels so.... last minute thought of? Like the actual dating part? Just odd the heart bar is completely maxed if you've only been on 1 date.
I wanna focus on this because if I focus on other aspects, I'll just get sad and go play stardew to clear my head.
Cause I am HEATED about how the resources are just... so small and the stamina bar being what it is.
Someone needs to make a mod to have these folks romanceable plsssssssss (I'm not at the point where I wanna make them myself tbh 🙃)
I was so ready to romance Osman till I found out he's already married 😮‍💨 another bestie I made, and I like that he worries about our well-being

Peeta Mellark is an integral member of the four D12 victors. He is literally the sunset on the reaping! How is this not clear? I’ve never wanted to report people for bad literary analysis more and I’m only half joking. It has forced me to commit a cardinal sin: analyze in anger!
1. Him being chosen by absolute accident is the point. Not only does he represent every single other tribute who simply gets chosen because they live in a messed up country but he represents how even with some odds being in your favor (older siblings, merchant family, being white, being popular, etc.) you are still very likely to be victimized by the oppressive structure of Panem.
2. When Haymitch says, “But she was smarter than me, or luckier” - the luck is all the people around Katniss who created the circumstances for her to lead a successful revolution (her father teaching her to hunt, the arena having woods, Rue healing her with leaves, Thresh not killing her, Haymitch consistently giving her support, her mother teaching her aspects of medicine, on and on and on) and Peeta is the number one, most important part of her luck in the first book. She has someone in the games actively putting her life before his… are you kidding? There is legitimately no better luck than that.
3. Even if we take Katniss out of it, Peeta is so impactful as a victor because most of his scenes would not be cut/doctored. What’s there to edit out? Instead, the viewers get a full view of him loving a girl so selflessly, using trickery and strategy instead of violence, keeping himself alive through art, joking on literal death’s door, and sharing so much of himself with the audience it becomes harder for them not to see him as a real human boy. How rare do you think that is for the games? Haymitch and LGB are caricatures of themselves in the games, playing roles that flatten them down. Even Katniss becomes one dimensional on screen without Peeta (and Rue, of course). It is also heavily implied that he does not kill anyone during the games (in a straightforward way) and even if you count Cato or the girl from 8 or even foxface, it’s never him hunting them or seeking out a kill - again how rare do you think that is to see on screen for Games viewers?
4. I didn’t think this needed to be said but: Katniss dies without Peeta in the first games. a) she goes for the bow and dies in the bloodbath; b) she is hunted and killed by Careers; c) she is killed by game makers because there’s no love story angle to keep them from just burning her entirely; d) she dies from tracker jacker stings or Cato because Peeta doesn’t defend her or tell her to run… I could go on…
5. But even if she does win and wins alone - the victory means as much (I would argue less than) any other rebellious victor winning, certainly less than Haymitch’s win. The biggest rebellion for their games is that two of them win! This is legit the only thing that distinguishes them from any other sympathetic, kind child who would have won the games. Like if Haymitch or Finnick or Wiress winning isn’t jarring enough for the Games to end… why do you think Katniss killing Peeta and winning solo would be? It would not.
6. And finally, I cannot stress this enough: There is no peaceful end to the rebellion or the trilogy without Peeta. “Peeta’s a whiz with fires” (HG) for a reason! Collins, over and over, shows us how fire can get out of control and destroy even those who are innocent and who you love (Gale, Beete, Peeta’s family, Haymitch’s family). If everyone really burns, there’s no one to clean the ashes. The reason not everyone burns is because of people like Peeta who can coax the flames in a way that is nurturing and consistent. I mean…. “Peeta fashioned some kind of incubator” is such an obvious detail. Those goslings don’t hatch without Peeta, life does not go on in peace and joy without Peeta.
It is no coincidence that when Maysilee says Lenore Dove got the “jump on us all” (in being a rebel), she is referring to LD using orange paint to make protest art!
We must stop pushing Peeta Mellark out of the narrative! He is literally the sunset on the reaping!
