I always assumed the plot stayed basically the same but they just shoehorned in those scenes at the expense of others, and my issues with S4 being so structurally weak were mostly due to their whole "let's do the Greek unity of time thing” so it was all plot all the time and not nearly enough character interaction and emotional development to create internal coherence (this is obvious with both Tom and Greg). I never thought the pregnancy changed things that much until I read your post because yes, things are missing that must've been there originally.

Also, you said, "shiv's pregnancy was an extremely hasty last minute addition" and I will take it one step further. Their vague answers to Who Knew What When regarding the real pregnancy and the official PR line being "we included the pregnancy as soon as we found out" would imply that even if we get beyond the suspension of disbelief necessary to accept that everyone on that set was blind, it makes no sense for Sarah to share the news right before the wake scene and having to slip down the stairs because... Shiv slipping down the stairs has no meaning if she's not pregnant in the first place? So instead of the official version, I think they wanted to leave the door open but dragged their feet for too long, and by then cutting everything that didn't fit Shiv's plot line really made her relationship with Tom (and by extension, Greg) make no sense whatsoever.

see i don’t love to speculate on who knew what when about sarah’s pregnancy. another problem is that tomshiv baby annoys me SO MUCH on a character level that i worry it comes off as being uncharitable to the real human woman sarah snook, which is the last thing i want to be!!

i don’t know when she herself knew, but i strongly doubt it had been communicated to jesse et al during the filming of episode 4 last summer (and they filmed out of order!). in fact i’m sure i remember lorene scarafia saying that nobody including sarah knew she was pregnant when they filmed the fall.

so for my money, the fall in 4.04 had nothing to do with any kind of shrödinger’s pregnancy spare plot in case they decided to do something with it, it just happened to become a serendipitous red herring, retconned to oh goodness is the baby okay melodrama before it was even aired. instead of being the physical manifestation of nero pushed his wife down the stairs and a visual metaphor for her rapid descent in the ranks and humiliation at the hands of kendall, roman and tom etc. mere hours after logan’s death. both of which were for sure already way too on the nose and hackneyed even before it had anything to do with tomshiv baby.

and yeah the unity of time schtick was limping after 4.04, and totally off the rails after 4.06. though i have to say i do find it incredibly, wildly funny that tom couldn’t manage a full 48 hours of husbandly duties before he was crying and screaming on their balcony in front of a room full of journalists.

in the end i don’t want to sound off about it too much because i found there was a lot to like in the season otherwise. my boy greg pulled off the coup of the century and beat his cousins with the power of gay love so, idc. succession belongs to me now 😎

what we do in the shadows - tv show - the three main vampires are all into boys and girls (actually thinking on it now i can’t recall if nadja has mentioned being with girls before? but nandor and lazlo definitely are into both) and it is a bit more of casual representation instead of driving the plot, but also,, pretty sure nandor and guillermo will be getting together in season four,,, (also s4 spoilers: pretty sure it’s been leaked that guillermo will get a boyfriend in s4 too, at least for a bit)

omg yall i just thought of something. so. nimueh was part of uthers court once upon a time right? and balinor, merlin’s father, too i think, or at least uther knew of him or smth. ive always imagined that uther, balinor, ygraine and nimueh were very good friends so even if im wrong and it doesnt go with canon idc its canon here. so nimueh and balinor knew each other. im gonna say they do. 

can you imagine if nimueh, after ygraines death, wanted to seek out balinor since he was the only other magic user at the time that would understand the betrayal and tragedy of it all (also to maybe seek revenge on uther but she knew balinor wasnt the fighting type so that would be more of a bonus than anything else).

so she tries to follow his steps after he’s been exiled n shit and it leads to a little village called ealdor. its been years now since ygraine has died and nimueh is almost gonna give up on her search when she sees a very beautiful and sweet woman leave a humble home, few months pregnant. and nimueh, being a powerful high priestess and what not, looks at the belly and her magic goes “BALINOR!!! BALINOR WAS THERE!! ALSO THAT FETUS HAS IS POWERFUL AS FUCK SHIT-”

so. she befriends hunith. and at first its just like ‘oh yes im lost i need a place to stay, want a friend? i can help with the chores and the farming ofc you are pregnant after all’ and hunith accepts and nimueh is all like ‘HAHAHA FOOL! im only here to see the baby and know abt balinor idgaf abt you woman hehehehe’

but months pass and hunith is a very nice woman, also sassy and witty, and so soft but determined and resilient and smart but humble, and she blushes so easily and her eyes are so blue and they look magical under the stars and her cheeks are so very round, her hair is so soft and she looks so good when she veils and leaves some strands out, it frames her face really well and- nimueh is very gay for hunith basically

then merlin is born and nimueh is like ‘ah yes merlin ofc ofc not emrys- WHAT whos that??? NOBODY no!! what a normal bby!!’ and then merlin almost sets the kitchen on fire with magic and nimueh has to put it out with magic as well. and its all fine n dandy until nimueh remembers she never told hunith abt her magic cuz of the ban and now shes panicking, she doesnt want to go shes never had a home, camelot was it for a while but that leaves her bitter and oh no oh god-

and while hunith is trying to put merlin to sleep she’s just like “oh yh i knew who you were from the start!! balinor told me abt you, he described you very well and even said you were following him so i shouldnt be alarmed if i saw you, and yes i know he’s a dragonlord and you a high priestess :) i just didnt tell you because i wanted you to do so on your own terms” and nimueh almost jumps this woman on god but she is holding a baby so yknow

but now nimueh remembers why she was even there in the first place. and because she doesnt want to lie to hunith, she does believe in loyalty and balance, she tells her what merlin is, who he is, and that he will need a teacher. hunith says gaius but nimueh refused immediately, gaius is in camelot and has led himself to believe what uther has told everyone, that magic is evil and dangerous, merlin needs a better teacher. hunith understands and trusts nimueh but feels like balinor deserves to see his son. nimueh is just like ‘sure yh whatever, im only going if u go with me tho so yknow’ and hunith is already packing her shit like hurry up nimueh damn

so you these two women with fucking bby merlin searching for balinor, following his cold af trail, and nimueh is very much ignoring her feelings like a girlboss because she assumes hunith wont ever love her and besides she still loves balinor, where does nimueh fit into the picture huh??? nowhere so shes happy to be merlins teacher (she keeps getting emrys and merlin jumbled up and its very embarassing when she goes em- mer- em- AGHHH- MERLIN!! hunith just laughs at her)

hunith is very much attracted to nimueh but she needs to know more abt her like her hobbies, her fav color, fav fruit or flower, what she thinks of the stars, what she thinks of balinor or uther, if she likes dragons etc.

their journey is very tense for various reasons. first: merlin and his magic is a huge danger to them considering the ban; second: they keep hearing news abt dragons and dragonlords being killed off, which doesnt bode well for them at all; third: nimueh is still a high priestess and she has duties and also a lot of power which attracts all sorts of attention from magic users hoping for refuge agaisnt the ban and she cant do much in her situation, so she helps little and just hopes they wont die horribly; fourth: their destination gets them in forest quite a lot which besides being a very dangerous place in general, theres also tons of druids who come and swaddle merlin, who very much doesnt like that and gets upset, which makes hunith upset, which turns nimueh angry and she swears them off each time. so theyre not having an easy trip

but two years later, they do find balinor. he’s the last dragonlord, theres very few dragons left, and merlin is still very powerful. and the ladies are very much still very good friends (AHEM). balinor is fucking confused, nimueh starts to explain her plan to overthrow uther, both hunith and balinor are agaisnt her on that front, shes very surprised and appalled and kinds upset ngl and it has nothing to do with her unresolved issues with being the reason why the ban exists in the first place and the reason why her lover ygraine died (YES i think ygraine and nimueh fucked and were in love, uther knew ofc ygraine aint no cheat)

balinor then gets very focused on his son merlin (”hes so small!! hunith!! hes small!!” “yes ik darling, he is a 2 year old, anyways, nimueh your anger is valid but you shouldnt fight fire with fire it doesnt end well!! it might burn bright and warm in the moment but when it dims and you see its destruction and death, will it be worth it? are you willing to risk your people for the sake of temporary pleasure and revenge? how many actions that mirror uther’s own will you make until you realize your mistakes? wasnt it thinking only abt the present and not thinking ahead what led to ygraines death and the ban??” “well damn hunith i am feeling too many emotions at the moment but i wont cry in front of you cuz i think its a show of weakness and i dont want to think abt your words too deeply lest i have a mental breakdown and go into a big depression so i will exit this cave dramatically and lie and say that it would be worth killing uther for the price of a few lives since thats exactly what he did” “dada!!” thats merlin there at the end btw)

so yh nimueh leaves for a bit n shit, hunith is very upsetti, balinor is like “damn should i get involved?........ sigh id do anything for hunith, aight” and they talk for hours abt it, merlin between them being cute and hunith cried thinking that she went to far with nimueh and shell never come back now, but balinor thinks she needed to hear some harsh words and even her feelings wont change abt uther, she wouldnt ignore hunith like that (he knows btw, he has eyes and hunith looks at nimueh like she does at balinor so. yknow. hes gonna help that cuz he loves hunith), and balinor decides to reminisce on the good old days, and he tells her embarassing stories of nimueh and uther, and gaius being the oldest and so tired, and how amazed they all were when nimueh was officially a high priestess and how in love ygraine and nimueh were.

few days later nimueh comes back, and she says she’ll focus on teaching merlin but she’ll still try to kill uther, only uther, and she wont get any other sorcerers inovlved but first merlins education, and thats enough for balinor and hunith. 

for the next few years, balinor and nimueh teach merlin all abt magic and his destiny (which theyre both very worried when it involves arthur but theyre ignoring that for now), hunith teaches merlin all abt the mundane, how to cook and sew and dance. so merlin gets 2 mothers and 1 father, and frequently mentions nimueh as mother while hunith as mum, which gets them very flustered. after a few years balinor and merlin are working together to get the two women together.

i'm sure no one is going to see this, but i just need to state my opinion on something.

i would like to mention that this topic is about lgbtq characters, and i am gay, so this isn't some cishet person making statements, but even if it was who cares.

first off, i would like to say that not every characters needs to be gay. or bi, or pan, etc etc. it's okay to have canon straight characters. the reason i am saying this is because in the harry potter fandom specifically i have been seeing a lot of posts of people saying it is "canon" that james potter is pansexual. and it's fine to have a headcanon of that, but it's not canon. there isn't any evidence of that, and it contradicts with his whole character development around lily. again idc if it's your headcanon, but, it's not canon, and THAT IS OKAY ! it is completely okay for james to be straight, and in love with lily, because that is who he is.

as a member of the community i recognize the importance of having representation, and making sure that everyone feels as if they can see themselves in a character, but it's okay for there to be straight characters, because in the real world there are straight people.

second off is the idea that in the marauders era specifically everyone is an ally. but, that is just historically and realistically wrong. they were teenagers in the 70's, in the uk, the likely hood of everyone being like "yeah love is love, i don't care and don't have any opinions on this" is just wrong. the 70's was a homophobic time, especially in the uk. not everyone is going to be okay with it, and even the people who say they're okay with it are going to have contradicting ideas/thoughts that take a long time to unlearn.

finally i think people need to realize that in that time era, and the country they live in, terms like bisexuality, pansexuality, were not used, nor truly exists, these terms did not come into terminology until later. also this is the wizarding world, when harry when to hogwarts they didn't know what movies were, what telephones were, RUBBER DUCKS, so you expect it to be canon that lily evans, and remus lupin immediately knew "oh yeah bisexualiy/pansexuality, it's totally normal and tons of people are like that" no. because first off, tons of people were not out and proud in that era because it was a crime, and extremely dangerous, and second of all, they were known terms.

i understand that it's a headcanon for a reason, but sometimes it's like people are trying to build this utopia world, and make characters seem flawless. that's not possible.

I would have mixed feelings about him being with both gwyn and Elaine. I love the idea of Elaine being azriels sunshine he deserves light in his life (also their scene in ACOSF had me ejdjbdksks) but also all three bat boys being with all 3 sisters rubs me the wrong way idk.

Gwyn is amazing because she's a badass bitch and if azriel doesn't snatch that up I will. I feel like azriel almost gets bulldozed over by the other bat boys (like he will do the dirty work only because he feels inferior) And I want gwyn to help him stand up for himself.

Gwyn is an adult jfc. I'd be more worried about her trauma.

But at the same time I would totally understand if Elaine couldn't forgive him for his involvement in the cauldron business. That shit was wack. I just want this relationship to be the biggest, most "period drama esqe" slowburn.

I have very mixed feelings about lucien. On one hand lucien has never had a home and when tamlin took him in I can see how that loyalty blurred the lines of right and wrong. But at the same time lucien messed up MANY times where the archeon sisters are concerned.

Nesta deserved her kick in the ass because it was needed. She did not deserve everyone to be a little bitch to her. It felt like feyre was the only one who wanted her rehabbed for nestas sake. I definitely would have preferred Nesta to hit rock bottom and choose recovery for herself (cause alcoholism and things can only be truly solved through self help) Everyone else was uncharacteristically nonempathetic. Idk how Cassian could be okay with her treatment after they mated.

I'm still digesting Rhys and nestas relationship. I like that they don't like each other for most of ACOSF. Nestas reasons for treating feyre poorly are valid, but not excuses. The feyre, Nesta, and rhys relationship thing is weird cause I see all sides. I need more feyre and Nesta bonding they always get interrupted.

I HATE what SJM did to Mors character. What the fuck is up with mor not liking Nesta. Maybe we will get an explanation in the next book but I feel like mor was set up to be a great LGBT character with himbo allies but SJM just dropped her off a cliff. Big mad.

However I do want eris and mor to end up together. Not necessarily romantically, but I want them to have it out and I want eris to support mor. Kinda want them to be mates. Kinda want eris to be gay as well. Kinda want them to get married and them have consorts.

WHY does everyone treat feyre like a porcelain doll when the IC has more collective trauma than anyone else in this universe. Don't get me wrong I'm all about the hurt/comfort but it was so inconsistently written LOL. When the IC was telling their stories the first night they met and then feyre told hers I cackled like sorry but she is a baby

Rhys's trauma is just as recent as feyres... yeah he's a lot older and seasoned but oh my GOD he was consistently assaulted for 49 years. Feyre does very little to comfort him. Idk I feel like it was SO glossed over.

Like in ACOWAR feyre admits that amaranthas hatred wasn't personal it was general, unlike Tamlins hatred. But amarantha and rhys had multiple personal vendettas against each other. Like his amarantha is vaguely feyres tamlin. Rhys didn't even get to kill amarantha. His trauma is untapped. Rhys is the main character feyre is the love interest idc

Idk what yall say rhys is my baby my lovebug my everything. He's got his flaws but you can't love Nesta and hate him at the same time without being a lil hypocritical

But he's fucked in the head for thinking he was justified in drugging feyre every night for 2 months. Almost more mad about that than the SA (I dont really blame Rhys since it is not cannon to me. SJM just messed up 😌 it was so out of character) did he ever really apologize for that??

ALSO I know smj wanted to write like #consentking but half of what he allowed was so unnecessarily dangerous (like the first AND second weaver encounter- if my SO ran off in the middle of a battle to track down a mysterious creature when the task could have been done after the battle I would have be livid. Mor was justified in being mad.)

I'm so mad rhys didn't flatten tamlin during the high lord meeting. Either it will happen in the future or I will burn these books.

But I DO have a fun headcannon that since the bone carver is a death-god or whatever he KNEW nyx wouldn't survive and that is why he appeared as him. Also when the bone carver offered to take feyres first born in exchange for help rather than the oroboughs I think that was also foreshadowing. The only reason nyx survived was because of Nesta and the bone carver had trouble seeing the cauldron.

FREAKING HEADCANNON: the archeon sisters are partially fae. Their mom was definitely a descendant and that's why all three sisters have mates. It was hinted that the sisters had mated because they were powerful and cauldron made but Cassian and rhys could feel the pull before the sisters were turned.

cool so I've decided I'm gonna, but because I cannot write for SHIT and I hate my writing every time I see it, ill just share my outline of what I have so far. its not coherent. sorry. 

Section one: aunt may dies. It’ll be like “it's been 3 months. 3 months since May was shot. 2 months and 3 weeks since she died.”

Something like that idc. Basically this section will base around peter living tony, because he’s not doing well, and he is only 17- which is not actually old enough to be on your own after something like this. Setting is established, with cameos from dr strange (who tony is dating and lives with (yeah bite me, this is my fanfiction i can make it what i want.) it will be made obvious that this takes place after endgame, which also means that tony is Not going to die. I’m not that mean lmao. The avengers are like largely together, there was not as much death in this as there was in endgame. Whatever. Everyone is very nice to peter because they know that for him its either this or him becoming a ward of the state so like.

Section two: harley gets kicked out. His mom finds out that he’s gay (from gossip sources idk) and kicks harley out. Im not going to write them having a big fight like in the moment, but harley will recount what happened somewhat to tony in this section, and then more to peter later in the story. Gay ppl trauma dump, we know this. Okay anywaysss so harley calls tony literally sobbing and like freezing fucking cold. IM SORRY IM BEING SO MEAN TO THEM I PROMISE THEY'LL GET A HAPPY ENDING. Okay. harley explains how his mom kicked him out. Tony asks why, harley says something like “she didn’t agree with my lifestyle choices” like bitterly. Tony is a good person in this (i know, im really taking some character liberties) and he’s in the mood for collecting strays apparently, so he has happy send over the quinjet. He can’t make it himself bc hes in fucking japan or something for the next few weeks,, but. Yeah! Tony also calls peter, who is presumably in bed and feeling depressed. “Hey pete. How ya feeling? Any better?’ ‘Not really, tony. Sorry.’ ‘you don’t have to be sorry-’ ‘damn tony you sound like my therapist.’ “sorry pete, but i do have something to tell you- you know harley?’ ‘only from what you’ve told me about him, but yea. He was the tennessee garage kid, right?’ ‘i mean. Yes. so- he’s gonna come stay with me for a while too- it might not be permanent but it will probably be a bit. He’s about your age, and he just has no where to go (just like u). He’s not going to stay in your room or anything, but with bruce and thor here, he will be in your apartment area.’ ‘okay tony.. Will i have to talk to him a bunch?’ ‘not if you don’t want to- i already warned him about you, so it should be okay. I wouldn’t worry so much pete- you guys are so similar in a lot of ways that i wanted to introduce you two long before he called me.’ ‘okay tony, i trust you. Thank you again for letting me stay with you :)’ (yeah that kind of got away from me)

Section 3: build up. this is a shorter section. Harley and peter are gonna meet in section 4. This section is harley’s jet ride (with an intuitive happy) and harley’s nerves about how he really isn’t worth this (i mean hes pretty intimidated tony sent a private jet just for him) and happy like reassures him. Hes still insecure though. Peter is also nervous bc what if harley doesn’t like him? What if he doesn’t like harley?? Tony did say they would get along, but peter hasn’t really been himself recently, so who knows? Yeah lots of that. I do want to emphasize though- peter is not completely unhealthily coping. Like he has a therapist and he has been reaching out to ned and mj, but its still an open wound for him. Obviously. He still has a sense of humor though, but its to cover these deep insecurities. Like the first month or so that he was with tony, he was reallllyyyy trying to not get close to him bc he sort of thinks he kills everyone around him. Like logically he knows this isn’t true, but he does really think the that non superheroes that he surrounds himself with are very at risk if they know about his spider-man-ness. The only people who know now are ned and mj (may knew too).

Section 4: the meeting of harley and peter. Keep in mind peter has been living in this apartment/area of stark tower for about 3 months now. He actually moved in while may was in the hospital because he couldn’t stand to be alone in the apartment when he knew why may wasn’t there. And um. Yeah. so peter is like comfortable in this space, basically. Also- the reason theyre in the same apartment is because stark tower was not really created with the idea of housing broken orphans in mind, so it only has a certain amount of residential space. Thor and bruce are currently staying there together (although no one really knows if theyre together, or if theyre just best bros who went through some extreme trauma together and are now inseparable. Hmmm wonder if thats gonna come up later) and theyre using one apartment, and happy lives there with his own apartment, and tony and stephen are currently sharing the penthouse, even though thats not public knowledge. Really only the people close to tony know that he’s dating stephen. So. this leaves just the one other 2 bedroom apartment for peter and harley. It has one bathroom, and the bedrooms are connected by a door but theyre pretty big so like. Theres a kitchen, a living room with a fancy ass tv, and a really pretty view (with a balcony bc <333). May died in march, peter got leave from the school in april, and it is now the middle of june btw. Tony is now peter’s official guardian (he was before may died anyways) and now has sole guardianship over him which he has fully accepted, even though peter and him both know that there are going to be times where he has to go out of town bc he does own a company after all. Times like right now. Harley is pretty nervous that tony isn’t going to be there to greet him and that he is going to have to like introduce himself to peter and everything. Cmon, theres no reason to feel like that, he’s the one intruding after all, he should at least be able to handle himself. (<--- harley’s thoughts). Yeah so theyre insecure super cool. A n y w a y s so peter was stressing about harley as he arrived, and so when harley walked in they were both complete bundles of nerves. Harley walks up but knocks. Peter actually jumps (bc spidey sense okay whatever) and goes to get the door. Oh my god these awkward teenagers i hate them so much (i love them). Peter kinda looks like shit, sorry king. He was a little bit crying earlier, then tony called and he switched into stressed out ball-of-anxiety mode. Distractions are good, its okay. Peter opens the door for harley and they like introduce each other all awkward (again sorry) and peter shows harley where he is staying. Harley doesnt really have muchhhh bc he was kicked out and all. He just has a suitcase full of clothes, his favorite blanket, his favorite stuffed animal (yeah whatever bc ofc he does) and his phone/charger. He sets all his stuff down at once. He thanks peter for letting him stay in his apartment and also said sorry. First thing peter noticed was harley’s accent. Stfu. peter asks why harley’s here- ok. Harleys had a long ass day. Too fucking long. He- he breaks down. He tells peter a lot. About how his mom found out that he was gay, and how she told him never to come back. Yikes. Anyways, this is establishing the beginning of their relationship as friends. Peter is there for him even though he doesn’t know him at all. Peter sees some of himself in harley in this moment, even though he’s not talking about himself yet. Eventually harley does ask about peter, and they really just get to know each other really quick. They have these deep scarring individual traumas, and neither has nearly recovered, but they find comfort in just knowing that theyre not alone in their suffering. At least for now. At least in this moment.

Section 5: the next day. Peter and harley spent that whole night talking about what they were going through. Peter said good night at around 5 am (there were no adults around they can do what they want to) and they both got good sleeps. In peter’s case, one of the first solid nights he’s had in a while. Harley was kept up a little longer after peter left, however, because he just couldn’t shut off his mind. It was really cathartic for him to just lay everything out there and for someone to just accept him. Peter told him he was bi, but he was.. Lucky. He had accepting people in his life. May was accepting. God, harley couldn’t fathom having lost everyone in his life, everyone he ever cared about, and still having the heart to sit and talk with the dumbass anxious gay kid who can’t go home anymore. His problems felt so small compared to peter’s, and all he could do was admire peter’s resilience and how he was seemingly able to bounce back from anything. God, peter was something. He couldn’t wait to get to know him more. With that thought circling in his head, he finally went to sleep at oh shit 6:30 am. Peter woke up around 1. Harley at 2. When harley woke up, peter was watching tv and eating cereal on the couch and he just sat down next to him. No words, just sleepy children being sleepy. They stayed like this for like an hour when someone knocked on their door. Enter stephen strange!!!!!!!!!!! Get excited people. Hes just coming in to check on them bc tony told him to, and he didn’t get the chance last night bc he was _busy_. K so now he’s here and hes awkward and he just wants to make sure these boys r okay bc theyve both been through too much recently, and it would be just the cherry on top if they didn’t get along. Him and harley had never actually met before so he like introduced himself and all that. Offered like if they needed anything he was there, and its only gonna be a few days until tony gets back (did i say a week earlier? Im retconning that bc i cannot find it in my writing so it is now retconned). Peter and harley just have to sort of explain to dr strange that theyre getting along gREAT and there is no need for concern….. And peter was even thinking about showing harley around the city a bit that night (something he had not yet told harley, but wanted to make it seem like he was doing well and not acting too depressed in front of Dr. Strange) so dr strange is like yeah !!!!!! do that, that sounds super fun petey !!!!!! and so now they have evening plans

am i stupid for not understanding the relationship between that high schooler and the old man? like....what am i missing here? it’s not healthy, or right, and it doesn’t really matter. it doesn’t mean no one can like it but i’m like confused at pretending that it’s like positive and healthy or whatever like at best it’s embarrassing and fucking stupid at worst it’s uhhhhh gross and probably illegal (not that it matterse bc crime is BS and this person wouldnt be persecuted anyway so)

like i know these writers don’t care, can’t write, think writing “shocking” things that everyone else has already done is like a big deal but they are doing the exact thing like with every ~pRobLEmAtIc~ storyline—which btw we need to start calling it what it is: misogynist, patriarchal, capital inducing, transphobic, toxic, fucking strange and also just a stupid way to get people to absorb information. like being specific about the actual problems not just atlking around it and alos breaking it down—it’s coercing people into liking it because it’s not about the content in their differences. they barely take that into account. i’m kind of surprised at the idea of longterm positivity in a relationship that cannot withstand that. and people do grow up and realize. 

i get their existence, i get why people would like it, but i don’t think you can sort of project positive things onto a relationship that is simply not positive and is not intended to be by the writers nature. even if it is accepted because harm is the norm, it upholds whatever power structures, so it’s like well fighting against that is the real story. like they exist but it’s not some statement about the lgbtq+ community particularly because that sort of relationship is common (in all communities) and uh not very good like i said and it NEEDS to be saved because that’s what these structures rely on it relies on being beholden to someone that you have no chance in matching at any point. it’s honestly a literal drag!

they dont hvae to break up or whatever but i kind of don’t get removing that reality from them. i mean i do because again this is what the writers do which is why it isnt effective, transgressive, or particularly fun (to me) and it’s so fucking common. it’s just like this IS the norm so it kind of needs to be pushed against.  i know they donnt give a shit but some of the comments im like.... am i imissing something did he like time travel to be an acceptable age or are we gonna accept he was lurking around a fuckin (immature as fuck) teenager.

now, mel was nowhere near prepared to have a kid and most of the time, cris wonders why the fuck she had him at all or didn’t give him up because it was evident she didn’t want him either. she wasnt subtle about it

she was the single mother that was not impressed by how having a kid impacted her social & dating life. as soon as he was (barely) old enough to fend for himself, the kid was often left home alone while she carried on living life like he wasn’t there.

here’s also the kicker; mel came from wealth, and so cris now lived in it. he was raised in new york, and wanted for nothing (materialistically anyway) 

from a young age, crissy was made to believe he was ruining his mother’s life and reputation. she was young too, and immature, and she didn’t really know how to bite her tongue about what she was thinking. (can u tell she too grew up as a spoiled, only child??)

I'm the anon that asked about Jenny and Eric originally, and I wanna say that I love everything you said!! I wanted to take a day or so to take it all in and read all the fics (and some of your other works--I'm excited to see what comes next in the Humphreys in Hudson series!)

I 100% agree that Jenny's a lesbian, but I don't think she knew over the course of the show. I think in her time reflecting in Hudson/London she asked herself where this obsession with Blair came from and the answer was a crush (and I bet her thing w/ Nate was comp het, his habit of saving her, and a little of her wanting to be Blair, bc when she met Nate the two were still together.) I think Eric was the first one she told but I don't think it was a big thing as much as they were talking and she (trying to hide how nervous she was) just kinda mentioned it and he picked up an what she was saying a showed support without being pushy, ya know (idk if that made sense)

I liked all the sad/more serious analysis. It's probably really interesting to look at their problems bc they seem like some of the most human throughout the series. There's only so much I can care about Blair's problems with her royal wedding without getting fed with her privilege, but these kids struggling with their mental health and sexualities is just so human. I wonder how their plotlines would've continued if they both stayed on the show. Saying the writers had a plan may be giving them too much credit, but her hubris was so clear that by the Waldorf sleepover episode I had thought that Jenny would either get pregnant or try to take her own life, and if it had been the latter the writers could've explored the parallel with where Eric was in the pilot (it's not like Dan and Jenny saw much of each other in season 3.)

One of the things I wonder about with them is when she told him about the kiss on the lips party. We know that he knew by season 4, but we never see them talk about it. He was pretty close with Chuck early on, did she tell him them? How did Eric talk about Chuck to Jenny (and vice versa) before he knew? Did he ever try to get the three of them to spend time together and she had to shut it down? I don't think this happened in canon, but it would be interesting to explore a scenario where Chuck's the one who told Eric about the party. Like, he feels and act on his guilt, but he's still taking the choice away from her.

I love what you said about them baking together. I like to think Jenny learned it from her mom, so she knows all the little tricks people use, but Eric has a slight case of Rich Kid Incompetence so she's like teaching him all these life skills (which is how I imagine they spent their time in college (idc if the show says he went to Sarah Lawrence he went to London with Jenny.)) I also think a lot of Jenny's sewing skills translate into other areas so she's probably actually the best at baking in the whole group.

Hi!!! This has been in my inbox for a bit because I wanted to give you a long and thoughtful answer but tbh I ....don't know what to say, other than that I agree with all of this!!

I'm glad you liked the fics (that's very sweet!!). I feel like Jenny did know about being a lesbian but was in deep denial, but I get your headcanon and I think that makes sense for her character too, definitely. I like the idea of her telling Eric first! Coming out usually sucks but I think Jenny would be okay, coming out to Eric - like you said, it wouldn't be a big deal.

I'm glad Jenny left the show for Taylor Momsen's sake, but from a storytelling POV, yeah!!! I think it'd be so interesting if we had a spin-off show that's like. Jenny and Eric in their 20s, in London, being gay and having fun and being chaotic together. They'd share an apartment and it'd be cute slice of life kind of stuff!

I honestly think that Eric and Chuck's dynamic was, uh. Not a great choice on the part of the writers, and it feels weird to me personally analysing it because my only feeling is just "this doesn't make sense for Eric and I don't like it", if that makes sense. I always assumed Eric didn't know about the assault in the pilot, but then in s4, Eric brings it up, which???? incredibly terrible writing choice imo. You're telling me that your step brother assaulted your best friend and you idolised him despite knowing all along? If Eric didn't know, I kind of get his weird dynamic with Chuck. Ugh anyway.

Oh yeah hard agree about Jenny's sewing skills translating elsewhere!! I headcanon her to be great at maths (and specifically geometry) because she's good at patterns.

Before we move on and I don’t care that I’ve paused it and rewound it like a thousands times, you’re gonna listen to another rant. There is so much to say about that scene and I don’t know if i will ever be able to say it all or put it into words and like I said before I’m being overly emotionally about this so please don’t judge me. I know that this is so different form Skam because they combined two scenes and there was a lot more discussion, but I liked the changes because I felt like it fit these characters more. Yes!! - The way Scorpia said "Catra thought my singing was annoying" honey - That clone was SO annoying stfu about Prime being omniscient and omnipresent and shit like ugH idC - Bow and Adora are the BROTP - Scorpia stinging Adora to keep her safe - and that's on friendship - The way Prime INSTANTLY called Catra out "Adora means something to you" listen I hate the gay but damn he's smart. Seriously guys this is my favourite Final and First eps of a season. 

100% one of my favourite two parters, if not my all time favourite two parter

Great direction, good story, excellent bad guys, good acting, just enough suspense with out being too drawn out, something for everyone, comes of the back of a fun as fuck episode (1969), Hammond has a big part, Davis is there, lots of cute Sam/Jack and of course, Daniel’s Elf Hair. 

Also the Tok’ra are actually useful in this one which is SHOCKING

random headcanon: i have a lot of Thoughts about temari as a mother. i think that she never planned on being one, just like how she never planned on falling in love. it wasn't opposition, just. her childhood was fucked up, she had no good parental role models, she was much more interested in being a konoichi. but then she and shikamaru got serious and shikamaru is the head of the nara clan and he needed an heir. she agreed to it, in a few years, but shikadai was an oops ! so anyway, temari hated being pregnant lmao which is why they only had shikadai. but once he was born temari is like "oh. i'll kill and die for this child." like shikadai wasn't Real to her until she held him (vs shikamaru, who's been obsessed with that child since temari first started showing). temari actually tried going back to work when shikadai was a year old but pretty quickly she realized "fuck this". temari likes working, a lot, but she also likes being needed and she just likes her kid! so she oversaw all his training from the time he was old enough. it was hard at first, because she's never babied him, but she knew that the training she recieved was uh, not acceptable, so she struggled with what pace was actually okay for his age. hinata and sakura actually helped a lot here- hinata also had Fucked Up training as a child and sakura trained with tsunade who is Insane so they were able to figure out what worked best for their children. GOD THIS GOT LONG. anyway. i love temari and shikadai thank u.
