I ruin everything I touch.
(Genesis 3:17 / Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov / n/a / n/a / Franz Kafka / n/a / Mindy Nettifee, All I Had To Say For Myself / Gillian Flynn, Dark Places (quote) / Fyodor Dostoevsky, Crime and Punishment / n/a)
( i sincerely hope this gives off the 'cursed' vibe the requester wanted, but if not, this will be edited or redone later on! )

I think there's no greater indication that disco elysium is sympathetic towards communism when it literally says "communism is failure" and then the literal gameplay itself rewards trying and failing. The most obvious one being the Shivers check at the FELD mural, which is an Impossible 20 check BUT opens itself up again and again the longer you spend in the world doing things, but even just looking at sheer probabilities, for any given white check, rolling first and THEN putting a point into that skill upon failure is more likely to grant you success than putting a point first and then rolling, but that would require failing first.
Other things too: Precarious world saying you'll 100% fail red checks no matter what (not necessarily a bad thing, btw!! throwing the boule into the sea is a success but like. in some other ways one would want a perfect petanque throw instead. but people wouldn't typically assume that failure is desirable sometimes from the start) persuading you to accept that you'll fail some things that is irrevocable, for a world where everything is just a tiny bit easier.
The faux game over screen when you faint after reading Dora's letter— emulating a sense of failure on the scale of the entire game. When it rolls up most people go "What?? Game over?? No way, what did I do wrong!!" and waking up after that, with no huge or lasting impact on Harry's health or morale really tells the player, "Sometimes things will seem so bad that it all seems like it's coming to an end, but it's not the end, it's really not the end, go drink so water, you can still go on despite this failure"
I'm sure there are other things as well that are eluding me but like. The literal gameplay rewards failing and succeeding far more so than simply succeeding every single time, and I think you get a fuller experience of Elysium that way too

given how gluttony is shown being "born" in the anime I can only imagine the horror show that must've gone down with envy

I thrash around like those inflatable tube men every time I remember that Neil literally just wanted to act, no matter if he had his parents permission or not. Possibly the most harmless way a teenage boy could rebel, and it was successfully twisted into a tale of obsession, and deception, and malicious defiance. So successfully, in fact, that I see some people who watched the movie call it that. It was just acting.

Y’know after Aang’s disappearance, the water tribes were probably anxiously waiting for one of their own to reveal themselves as the next avatar, hopeful that the cycle isn’t gone and that their next avatar is here, and safe, and ready to take on the fire nation as the waterbender avatar (they probably even thought it’d be fitting for a waterbender to take down all those firebenders) and restore balance to the world
And then the northern water tribe had the audacity to ban women from learning waterbending???? Motherfucker what??? Imagine Aang did die and the next avatar was born as a woman in the northern tribe and she can’t bring balance to the world because oh!! some crusty old dudes banned her from even learning her main bending!!!
(Avatar aside, bending is seen as so important and personal to benders, and they were just denying women a fundamental part of themselves??? What the fuck.)

I have a personal hc that HSR MC acting menace a lot is just to avoid having dreadful thoughts of existential crisis, an unconscious mental self defense if you will, that's why the first thing Kafka advice them is "not to worry" as their story had "already been played out to them"
Caelus/Stelle seem to be content despite being literally born yesterday, the way they interact with trashcan and that closet scene seem child like, very imaginative (and fucking funny) thus slowly make you forget the why or what they are in the first place,,
The inner monologue from the dialogue option kinda gave me this energy: "hey haha yeah you have bomb in your body, but it's okay😊😊look shiny trashcan, don't think too much about why you exist, look at these shiny coins in the water fountain woooaahh, hm? What's that? You're questioning why you hear voices in your head?? Nah it's fine, let's hide in the closet and banish hotel demon!!"
Anyway I don't have anywhere to go with this, but I just love the contrast of the trailblazer lore (that heavily allude to be heavy angst) and the funny idiotic moments they did 😭

The recent explosion of Hazbin Hotel into popularity over the last 2 months is so surreal, did the court of public opinion not find viziepop guilty of just insane levels of bigotry as early on as 2013?? Like forgive me, i was in middle school, but i seem to recall a relatively widespread understanding that she was not a great person while the show was still in the earliest stages of pre-production, did i miss a memo???

PJO Fancast (6/?) → Iñaki Godoy as Leo Valdez
Leo looked like a Latino Santa's elf, with curly black hair, pointy ears, a cheerful, babyish face, and a mischievous smile that told you right away this guy should not be trusted around matches or sharp objects. His long, nimble fingers wouldn't stop moving—drumming on the seat, sweeping his hair behind his ears, fiddling with the buttons of his army fatigue jacket. Either the kid was naturally hyper or he was hopped up on enough sugar and caffeine to give a heart attack to a water buffalo. "Anyway," Leo said, "I hope you've got your worksheet, 'cause I used mine for spit wads days ago. Why are you looking at me like that? Somebody draw on my face again?"

the goldfinch is so fascinating to me because everything in it is about grief, with his sexuality as a subsection, another core tenant, that centers around (as i believe) the fact that he can't tell his mother about it. and the painting is grief and love itself! the painting represents that moment before his mother died, and he literally put it away and took it out only for boris while blackout drunk, that chunk of his heart, the source of all his pain, and boris thought i want that enough to take it. also the goldfinch is about drugs and a small dog.
