Poetry but it’s just rambling

Tell me who am I to

take up this space?

The world is harsh and loud and my ears ring at the slightest sound so I walk

to hear my own footsteps steps like my heartbeat

each one softer than the one before

When will it all stop? Tell me, where

does the echo end?

I stand at the edge and whisper what I hope for it never comes back to me

Should it come back I wouldn’t believe it anyways

Like a fish won at a fair - not a fair prize

the fairness of fate is soon to be realized anyways

should it come back

to slap me in the face I’d say it lies and who am I to

make such a claim?

To translate fate is to say I am god

the echo fights back I am god

Standing here I’ve started to hear the wind talk back or

is it me or

is it the fish or

does none of this exist? Anyways,

it’s all too much to bear to lay myself bare to say

I am the noise

Forma Otwarta 開放形式

在當代的建築圈裏面，歐美國家的思潮一向居於領導位置，即使亞洲的東洋人也沒法平起平坐；這種現象顯然不大正常，因為蓋房子不是稀有的知識與技能，各地的人都可能有一套自己的做法。波蘭建築師奧斯卡．漢生 (Oskar Hansen) 在2003年一次訪談中， 曾抱怨西方媒體刻意不報導他，以致他的想法傳播��很有限。

不過，六十年代末挪威有一位左翼熱血青年來華沙跟他學習，追隨了他十幾年；這小伙子回到家鄉工作，仍然念念不忘老師的教誨， 後來他突破萬難和挪威政府周旋多年，在八十年代中期創辦了一所新的建築學校，意圖傳授奧斯卡．漢生的理念給挪威的下一代。這所學校就是卑爾根建築學院(Bergen School of Architecture)，創辦人是何思文 (Svein Hatløy)； 在創校初期，奧斯卡．漢生曾直接參與教學支持協助 。

究竟是何原因吸引何思文投入一生的精力？ 打開奧斯卡．漢生《看這個世界》這本波蘭文出版的圖文資料集，夾頁上是蒙得理安畫的那棵抽象的樹，翻至下ㄧ頁寫了一句話跨頁：「具有視覺語意的視覺結構  (struktury wizualne o wizualnej semantyce) 」，這標題的上緣有「封閉形式」，下緣是「或開放形式 ?」的字句；書中主要是奧斯卡．漢生找了世界各地的建築實例，想辦法比對說明開放的空間狀態與封閉的空間狀態之間的不同，其中他常用一個交錯的方框當作象徵圖案，這圖案是將封閉的方框從中間切開，再把切出來的兩半平移開來，表示空間的解放。

在現代建築的發展初期，對於空間的開放性已十分重視，曾以打破立方體的盒子為目標。  奧斯卡．漢生所謂的「開放形式」，關心的不只是垂直界面上的通透，而是在於提供串接流動的連續空間，隱約暗示一種偏移游走的逃逸策略，這是我個人的揣測，也許和波蘭人在列強壓制中爭自由的歷史境遇有關。

1958年，在雕塑家亨利‧摩爾主持的評審小組選擇下，奧斯卡．漢生曾獲得奧斯威辛納粹集中營紀念公園的競圖首獎。整個設計是在整齊排列的集中營房舍中，加入一條斜切進入的上坡道， 這是一條三十米寬筆直的大道，穿過既有的空間序列， 最後路的盡頭是走到行刑的地點，沒有再做任何多餘的設計。可惜波蘭官員認為整個設計空無一物，最終沒有實施。

奧斯卡．漢生除了有自己的現代建築設計觀點，尤其令人注目的是他發展了一系列在戶外訓練學生的教學方法；他的方法是轉化自當代表演藝術，或偶發藝術等新的藝術形式，將身體經驗直接帶入設計練習，重視透過人在環境之中的一比一互動關係以進行創作。

二十多年來，卑爾根建築學院的確培養了一些人才，去年落成的奧斯陸歌劇院是晚近知名的校友作品。  2009/01/04

Another group of work from 2014, some of which was made in an off white body instead of white slipped terracotta, adding depth of tone instead of obscuring. Face the Music: The Boston Symphony Orchestra transforms their annual Tanglewood Festival

Many symphony groups cancelled their live concerts these summer and spring seasons, but thankfully their performances did not end. The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), America's second oldest symphony orchestra, moved online to accommodate and connect its audiences.

After cancelling their concerts in March, the BSO launched a BSO at Home, an online platform designed to intellectual and creativity stimulate music-lovers. Here, audiences get to listen to archived performances, learn about the orchestra’s behind-the-scenes, as well as access lesson plays and explore the group’s projects. 

The BSO is also know for its annual Tanglewood Festival, which the group began hosting in the 1930s. Many attendees wondered what would happen to this musical staple. 

Fear not! The Tanglewood Festival lives! It has been transformed into an online gallery of education, recitals, and encores. In a statement on their website, the Boston Symphony Orchestra said, 

Although we cannot gather in person this summer, we are pleased to be able to keep the spirit of Tanglewood alive through the Tanglewood 2020 Online Festival, a series of digital offerings for all to enjoy. The festival will include both free-of-charge archival offerings as well as newly created content available for purchase. 

The show (well, the festival) goes on today! The Boston Symphony Orchestra adapted its programming so that the musicians can continue connecting and enticing us.

The pandemic did not bog down the Tanglewood Festival as the BSO  now streams new content each Saturdays. Tanglewood Online also embraces the world stage by offering recordings of concert venues outside of Boston.  

Lucky for music appreciators, technology has allowed numerous music festivals to jump into the digital plane. While there is a magic to sitting in a concert hall or on a picnic blanket, we can still satisfy our music cravings and feel music run through us.  

Many music groups still offer education to the public. The BSO’s Tanglewood Learning Institute Online allows audiences to immerse themselves in music and craft.

This Institute includes offerings like ShopTalks, which are informal “conversations among conductors, composers, and performers that contextualize and enrich Tanglewood concert experiences."

There is also an OpenForm, which is “presented in conjunction with Great Performers in Recital from Tanglewood and Recitals from the World Stage. Each collection includes three presentations, a panel discussion, and a live Q&A.”

Tanglewood Online has extensive programming, ensuring music remains accessible to American and global audiences.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra has taken impressive steps to digitalize their content and embrace quarantined audiences through the BSO at Home and the Tanglewood Festival. In a time when it’s easy to feel isolated and bored, musical innovations like these help us feel more human.

this week Western Australian MLCs are voting on LGBTQI+ Western Australians accessing surrogacy and IVF

I’m about to flip my noodle bc this is the third time I’ve had to write this post due to technical difficulties, but long story short:

- m/f couples and single women can currently access surrogacy and IVF

- the Human Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Legislation Amendment Bill 2018 proposes to include m/m couples and single men

- I believe it also intends to address some issues around trans identities and fertility, which it primarily does in an “operational reproductive parts” kind of way, but which is receptive to the idea that if people have had surgery due to trans identities this also counts as much as say, surgery due to cancer. Not sure where things like dysphoria fall where the actual organ function isn’t compromised.

- the situation for f/f couples is still vague, but I think it’s because people trying to pass it wanted to make it as easy as possible and members of f/f couples can apply as single women (which, yes, does have a number of issues I can’t be bothered writing out for the millionth time).

As a Western Australian, activist, member of the LGBTQI+ community, and queer person with several uterus related health issues that impact my fertility, I would greatly appreciate any and all help you would all be willing to give, including but not limited to:

Local Museum of Traditional Embroidery and Silversmith-work, Lefkara

This is a beautiful, blue museum surrounded by orange trees in the middle of the village, I had such a fun time here ! In the first room, there was an informational video about the history of Lefkara and lace. 

Cypriot women would sew asproploumi which is a type of weaving, and then in the 14th century during the Venetian rule, the Cypriot women would see the Venetian ladies doing their embroidery - pitotto, reticello - and they implemented some of the techniques they saw, which became what we know as Lefkaritiko.

The women would create designs based on the things they saw around them, like daisies, baskets and lanterns. Lefkaritiko was made for a woman’s dowry, and later became a trade - women were the first ones who made a business out of their lace. It became a trade where men would also become lace salesmen and travel to many different countries, going to embassies and jotting down a few words that they needed to go and sell to the public.

The Municipality sponsors classes for learning Lefkaritiko as well, as traditionally women were taught by their mothers, who were taught by their mothers etc, but young people are less inclined to learn the craft in the current times.
