gonna get perhaps a little controversial for this site and say i think it's generally kind of a weird move to be proud of yourself simply for not liking something.

if you are boycotting a work for political reasons and it brings you some measure of peace or clarity to critique its messages, by all means go ahead; that isn't what i'm talking about.

but patting yourself on the back just for not deriving the happy chemicals from a potential source for them, in this world so full of pain and struggle, where sometimes it seems like we all have to fight to enjoy anything in the first place...why?

all of that said, i think i would care about the superbowl more if it had clearer dramatic stakes and better dialogue.

Little things about Marcille make me so so so sick. Reading a book with the first character that's anything like you at all in even a somewhat respectable way and falling in love. She doesn't know anything about the food her mother grew up eating. She is subtly different from her peers and has never been sure where she fits in. AND despite those experiences she still falls victim to prejudiced thinking. She and Kabru should be besties who verbally fight like rabid dogs.

Solomon constantly asking for your reassurance whenever he engages in anything romantic is due to his insecurity that he isn’t as important to you as the brothers. He needs to know you want to do this, he needs to know you love him.

If you say no he immediately backs off. You have to go out of your way to kiss him. There’s never a dialogue option that leads to a kiss without you explicitly asking for one, unlike some characters.

HSR spoilers under the cut regarding Firefly, Sam and Stelle

I'll start by saying I found Sam and Firefly incredibly boring as individuals. Like, they were fine. You've got the Obvious Tearjerker Love Interest cute girl and broody soulless killer robot. They both felt very flat, in part because they had very little screentime, but I especially though the whole date/emotional bonding/death with Firefly thing was super forced.

Like, why is Stelle so attached to this Literal Stranger? She's cute but you literally met her To-day. I mean I'd cry too if I ended up with ectoplasm splattered on my face after said cute girl explodes, but the narrative revolved around an emotional connection that was much deeper than the horror of "oh my God I'm wearing a person's organs." And I didn't think that connection was particularly earned...

Until we see that Firefly IS Sam! Sam, the Stellaron Hunter, who probably watched Stelle before she got dumped on the space station. Sam, who was very possibly Stelle's bestie. Sam, the armor that Firefly pilots when she can't interact with the world herself. They knew each other!

Acheron has a bad memory. She relies on emotions to fill in the gaps where her mind cannot.

In the same vein, while Stelle has forgotten Sam and Firefly, her emotions remember. That's why things moved so quickly. That's why they were acting like they had an entire arc together after a single day, because they already have

Sometimes, I don't like looking at Frieren fandom things is because it feels so alienating as an aroace person sometimes.

I relate to Frieren in a lot of ways. The way she goes through life at her own speed, the way she has a certain way of doing things that is hard to change, the way she struggles to fully understand others but is still compassionate and tries, and last but not least, the way she doesn't feel romantic or sexual attraction the way most people do.

So when a fan posts something about how elves like Frieren don't really feel romantic or sexual attraction and it's wonderful that Himmel's unrequited love with her is still portrayed as something beautiful, healthy and valued, but the comments section is just filled with people being like: No!!!! That's not true!!! Frieren loves Himmel even though she doesn't realise it!!!!

Or even the more "generous" ones are like: No!!! She is just falling in love with him years later!!! The whole story is about how she regrets not pursuing it until it was too late!!!!

And like, every person has their own interpretation and ships. But it really is a bit saddening as an aroace person that sees Frieren also as an aroace who probably would never feel as much romantic love for Himmel EVER. People have almost this... need to correct people that Frieren loves Himmel romantically.
