Post-war marineford is probably one of the most brilliant explorations of grief I've seen in fiction. From Luffy's justified unbearable grief to Dadan's screaming anguish for her foster kids, to Garp's guilt. It's such remarkable writing that reflects such a deep understanding for human emotions. Luffy drowning in grief and then the thought of his "nakamas" anchoring him back, letting in the light in his thoughts. Poetic cinema.

Sirius looked amazing. His resemblance to Jack Sparrow was uncanny. The thick eyeliner he’d put on made his eyes pop in a way Remus hadn’t known was possible. He wished they could just stay in the cabin so he could admire him in peace.

Sirius had helped him into his cowboy costume. He looked alright but he paled beside Sirius. Sirius seemed to like it though, because he couldn't stop touching him. 

“Damn Sev, you don’t half clean up well,” Sirius whistled as Snape emerged from the bathroom. He glowered at Sirius. “No, I mean it. You look amazing,” Sirius smiled a genuine smile. 

���Ahem,” James cleared his throat and flicked his wig's hair, making it fan out for a second before settling back down. He’d gotten his Snape outfit down to a T, but they were unsure how Snape would take it. Snape stood frozen to the spot, staring at James. He snorted and started laughing madly. 

“Oh my gods, Potter.” He gasped as he wiped the tears away that were leaking from his eyes. He walked around James, taking him in. “I think I may have a plan for a prank forming, if you’re up for it?” Snape said to them, biting his lip. 

“What do you have in mind?” James grinned, a perfect mimic of Snape’s smile, mischief dancing in his eyes. 

The dance brought together the boys and the girls camps. The girl’s camp was a couple of miles down the road and every year they came over for the annual dance. 

The main hall had been decked out with balloons and streamers, cheesy music was playing over the speakers, bringing it all together. Remus had never been to a dance, but at least he had Sirius and the others. He’d never have come if he’d been on his own. 

“Right, are we ready for operation doppelsnaper?” James clapped his hands together in anticipation. “Everybody knows their parts?” They all nodded in unison. “Alrighty then places everyone.” Peter took off for the door, waiting to alert them to Lily’s arrival, while James stood with his back to the door and Snape hid behind Remus and Sirius, stood to James’s right. 

A few minutes later, Peter signalled that Lily was entering the hall. 

“She’s here,” Sirius hissed at James. James gave a small nod and adopted a sullen posture.  

Snape kept his head low, as he peeked between their arms, watching Lily approach James from behind. 

“Sev, I thought you were getting dressed up?” She tapped James on the shoulder. He spun around and Lily screamed. 

“Hi, Evans,” He beamed at her. “Lovely to see you as always.” He bowed graciously to her. She shoved him in the chest. 

“What the fuck Potter? Why are you dressed like Severus? Isn’t it enough that you pick on him without this as well?” Lily was tiny, but apparently very strong. 

“Er, Sev, do you maybe wanna…?” Sirius trailed off. 

“Oh, no, this is going to be hilarious.” Snape chuckled darkly from behind them. 

“Severus,” Remus pleaded. 

“Oh, alright. When did you guys get so boring? Lily!” He called out to her, pushing through Remus and Sirius.

“Twat,” Sirius chuckled at Snape’s back. Snape shot two fingers up at him over his shoulder as he went to save James from the irate redhead. “Blooming mental that one,” Sirius said, tilting his head at Lily. “Very protective of her friends and she totally hates James.” Before Sirius could say any more, the opening vocals to Cotton Eye Joe blasted out of the speakers. 

“Yes, Remus, this is what your costume was made for.” Sirius smiled a face-spitting grin and dragged Remus to where the other dancers were dancing. “Dance cowboy,” Sirius demanded, letting his hands fall to Remus’s hips and dance along to the fast beat.

As the night progressed, slower songs played and Remus spent a very pleasant time with his head leaning on Sirius’s shoulder as they gently swayed to the music. 

“I wish this wouldn’t end,” He said quietly, so only Sirius could hear him. 

“Me too, sweetheart. But this is only the beginning. I meant it when I said this was more than a camp fling. I refuse to give you up Remus Lupin. You’re mine now and I intend to keep you,” Remus felt the love in those words. He lifted his head from Sirius’s shoulder and captured his lips, pouring everything he had into that kiss, telling Sirius how he felt as they moved around the dance floor with eyes for no one but each other.

The Ashlesha Nakshatra, the Snake Princess, and Amazon Lily🐍

Hello everyone! I just want to say that I am NOT a Vedic astrologer, however I have been researching my own placements. I’m an Ashlesha lagna, so of course I saw the similarities in the Pirate Empress and this arc. This is my analysis on the connection between the Ashlesha Nakshatra, Boa Hancock, the Kuja Pirates, and Amazon Lily.

“Snake Princess”: Snake symbolism on the island and in this arc are very prevalent. You can see this with the Gorgon sisters (Boa’s younger siblings), the use of snakes as weapons, and the use giant of snake monsters to travel. The Jolly Roger of the Kuja pirates pictures a skull with nine snakes. Snakes are connected to Ashlesha because it ruled by the Nagas (divine serpents).

The Kuja tribe also has qualities like a snake. Their island, Amazon Lily, rests on the Calm Belt. This makes them a fairly isolated island that is hard to travel to. Ashlesha is known to be a guarded and private nakshatra.

Boa Hancock: Boa Hancock has two nicknames, the Pirate Empress and the Snake Princess. Her first title comes from being the ruler of Amazon Lily, which also makes her the strongest person on the island. She possesses a “devil fruit” called the mero mero no mi (aka the love-love fruit). This fruit gives her the power to turn people into stone when they become enamored by her beauty, and sometimes lust after her. She is also known as the most beautiful woman in the world, which makes her power even more potent. The snake princess has her own snake weapon named Salome, who is a giant snake. There is currently debate about what nak is connected to Medusa symbolism and I think it is the Ashlesha nak. You can especially see this in Boa’s character arc. She has a hard, intimidating appearance to protect herself and her tribe. However, on the inside she is the complete opposite.

Gorgon Sisters: The Gorgon sisters are Boa Hancock’s younger sisters. They both ate the hebi hebi no mi (snake devil fruit), but they possess different models. The middle sister, Boa Sandersonia, ate the anaconda model. The youngest sister, Boa Marigold, ate the cobra model.

Over-sexualization: Amazon Lily is only inhabited by women, thus it catches the attention of predatory and perverted men. The island is an almost impenetrable fortress and with the help of the Kuja warriors who also protect it, predatory behavior is a reason why. Boa Hancock and her younger sisters were also victims of human trafficking and sexual assault (SA has been speculated but fans believe that this is what the anime was alluding to). Not only is this nak heavily sexualized in real life, this trope is seen many times in film and television with characters played by Ashlesha women. Since I am on the Claire Nakti video, I would like to also include one very specific thing she talks about here. Claire talks about how Ashlesha women are attracted to people they cannot dominate, people who have more control over themselves. Boa Hancock falls in love with the main protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, because he didn’t immediately lust after her. They believe that strength is tied to beauty and the more strong you are the more beautiful you are, and Luffy is one of the strongest men in the world. Once she realized he was genuine with a good heart she immediately fell in love.

The Kuja tribe are very skilled and knowledgeable when it comes to poison and medicine. When Luffy first landed on the island, he ate poisonous mushrooms. Some Kuja members rescued him and healed at a river. The Gorgon sisters also fight with poison, which they used to fight Luffy. The Ashlesha nakshatra has a strong connection to alchemy, poison, medicine, and chemistry.

Also, it’s funny how Ashlesha is ninth in the order of the nakshatras. Kuja means “nine snakes” and their Jolly Roger has nine snakes.

Marlene’s eyes flashed in Dorcas’s mind, her ears echoing with the moans she had heard her make the night before, even if for too short a time.

“If that was the world, I wouldn’t change a thing about myself,” she heard herself say.

“I thought so,” Pandora’s voice came as if through a deep fog. There was a pause. “Does Marlene know that?”

Dorcas snapped back from her thoughts running around in her head, chasing after a new version of the world, one where she would be alright.

“What?” she said.

“It’s quite clear you’re attracted by her,” Pandora smirked. “And she by you.”

Dorcas felt her cheeks heat up.

“I’m a hostage,” she said. “Your captain’s rules states I’m off-limits.”

“That’s true. But we’re pirates,” Pandora got up, brushing grass from her dress. “What are rules after all?”
