Presence, or Polaroid Ghosts (Part 8)
Part 7
Remembering
Afterimage
‘At times,’ the Nobel Laureate and novelist Patrick Modiano writes, ‘it seems, our memories act much like Polaroids.’ This interesting thought comes from the semi-autobiographical perspective of a character in his novella Afterimage (1993). It is a narrative filled with strangeness, derived in part from the recollection of memories once forgotten; put to one side,…

Hello! Just my OC Polaroid hope to befriend the human in your AU!
(He hasn't see another human survivor for quite some time)
[Hello! My name is Polaroid!]
[I'm so glad to see another human!]
By the way, has any other alliance member try to communicate with the human through writing? Or simply the tablets they carry throughout the series? It would be much easier for them to communicate this way.
"Oh! Hello, Polaroid! Yeah, I'm kinda new around here after I got caught and all and it's so nice to meet--"
"Wait...another human?"
"I hope I don't sound rude when I ask this...but...uhm...what about you is human exactly? You look like just another ordinary cameraman to me...?"
(Yes! There is one character that uses writing to communicate with the human. He actually is set to appear in the next chapter, in fact. ALSO! SORRY FOR THE DELAY IN YOUR RESPONSE!!)

The Tale of Madame Laree || Part I
Shot on Cinestill 800 T and experimental 35mm
Analog film story and lyrics by @annamadsen
Madame Laree
Marina was nineteen with an aura
full of light beams
that could pierce any
lucky man’s heart.
Her lips were stained with berries
her voice brought in the canaries,
because they wanted to sing her song -
She was full of beauty,
but her heart was rather lonely,
so she called upon Madame Laree.
Madame Laree
With your tarot and teas
Won’t you bring me company
And a man who will love me?
Madame Laree
With your wisdom and foresight
Don’t make this pretty girl
Alone tonight.
Well, a handsome villain came
To town and Marina’s heart
Fell to the ground,
His eyes cast a winsome spell.
Well he broke her heart
And left her there
To weep upon the city square
And Marina cursed Madame Laree
She was full of fire
And her broken heart conspired
She called upon Madame Laree
Madame Laree
With your tarot and teas
Won’t you bring me company
And a man who will love me?
Madame Laree
With your wisdom and foresight
Don’t make this pretty girl
Alone tonight.
Marina was 23
With a broken mind and blackened dream
Her lovers turned to trophies by her side
Her lips were stained with poison words
Her life brought darkness close to her
And she felt no happiness in side.
She once was full of beauty
Now her heart was rather lonely
So she called upon Madame Laree.
Don’t make this pretty girl alone tonight.
Bring me a love that will last through time!
Don’t make this pretty girl alone tonight!
Don’t make the same mistake
And fool me twice.
Madame Laree
With your tarot and teas
Won’t you bring me company
And a man who will love me?
Madame Laree
With your wisdom and foresight
Don’t make this pretty girl
Alone tonight.
I’ve got your reading.
Don’t double cross me.
(I’ll never forget)
Bring him back
(I’ll never forget)
Madame Laree.

Presence, or Polaroid Ghosts (Part 7)
Part 6
Time and again, cinema seems drawn to Polaroid photography, often in unusual and tangential ways. Antonioni’s film, even if ultimately about 35mm photography, is not the only one to explore the strangely tangible qualities of space within photography (or the things contained within a photograph beyond the image).
When looking at Polaroids, we perceive them spatially. By that I mean we…
