Ehehehe, for the AU, maybe Newt gets his limp from being mauled by Cranks during a "controlled release" experiment (he wasn't a test subject), which is how he becomes Evolved, and the reason Thomas flips on WCKD is him finding out about the fact people are being FED TO THE INFECTION WHAT THE ENTIRE FUCK

YEEEEEEEEE

YES I LIKE IT!!! and that just fits Thomas because he may understand ends justifying means but he draws the line when those means equal potentially killing people. to Thomas, there’s no point in WCKD’s goal if there are no longer people left to save by their obsessive experimentations

I don’t usually post about ideas here but oh well here goes

I’ve been thinking of a story idea for Newtmas (romantic or platonic I honestly don’t know I adore them either way) that takes place after the end of TDC.

WICKED would be on its last legs, but still standing. I imagine WICKED from other countries (bc let’s be real, js bc America’s WICKED is down doesn’t mean the rest of the world is the same) would send some of their own over, now supported by a giant ship that is far from land and picks up literally any struggling immunes and take them onto their ship.

Somehow, Thomas ends up in the water- maybe it’s a mistake, maybe someone got in the water and Thomas went after them, only to get swept out- and gets picked up by WICKED

Of course, Thomas isn’t happy, and at one point, lunges at the new Chancellor of WICKED, only to be stopped by multiple guards, including a guard with red sleeves.

The Chancellor somehow (again, this is a ROUGH idea, so excuse the lack of details) finds out Thomas lost Newt. Who is now a Guard.

This is all very pseudoscience-y but Newt would be alive (very injured and NOT looking well at all- but alive) through WICKED controlling a part of his brain that the flare was attacking and basically taking control of it. It stops the flare, but also means that Newt is completely brainwashed.

I noticed that Gally’s wound is on the same side, so I also added Minho with his scar from the lightning strike…

Tw: depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts/attempts, self harm, panic attacks etc

Thomas

- This man has some extreme survivors guilt from everything.

- He gets flashbacks, especially in dreams, of him working with WICKED, helping them build the maze and having to watch his friends through the beetle blades.

- He feels responsible for everything his friends went through in the glade and for not trying harder to help them (even though the others have continuously told him that they don’t blame him and it wasn’t his fault).

- Even through the scorch, he feels guilty for not doing more to help because if he had only acted faster, they might not be there at all.

- He sometimes has panic attacks because of this and on the worst days he wishes he could have died instead of his friends because he feels like their deaths were his fault.

- Occasionally he turns to self harm, believing that he deserved to feel the pain he put his friends to.

- Newt found him once with the knife in his hand and immediately stopped him, cleaning the cuts and making Thomas promise never to do it again because nothing was his fault and he doesn’t deserve to feel pain.

- Newt then makes it a regular occurrence to draw little butterflies on Thomas’s wrist and arms (iykyk)

- Newt got really worried the first time Thomas had a panic attack in front of him because he didn’t really know what to do to help but he slowly figured out little ways to calm him down.

- Taking him to a quiet, familiar place, helping him breathe, making him tea and cuddling up with a blanket and a movie on in the background

Newt

- I think I already covered this in another post but being sick is a huge trigger for Newt. He gets super edgy and Thomas can tell. He continuously checks his arms just in case the veins are black

- I’m convinced he’s got Emetophobia (fear of throwing up) because it triggers memories of when he had the flare and he felt nauseous all the time.

- His immune system is weaker than everyone else’s so he gets sick a lot more often than the others and even a simple cold would have him shivering in bed all day with tea and five blankets

- Newt also doesn’t like to acknowledge the fact that he’s sick because he doesn’t want people fussing over him and asking him if he’s okay so he will just say ‘I’m fine’ as he’s actively throwing up.

- He usually distances himself whenever he’s ill because he’s scared that he’s not cured and is going to snap and hurt someone but Thomas isn’t having it.

- Thomas will wrap him up in a blanket and hug him until Newt stops struggling to get away and melts into a little shivery puddle in Thomas’s arms

- Once he’s finally accepted that he is ill, Newt becomes very very clingy towards Thomas and stays in bed all day with tea and a hot water bottle

- I also think Newt and Brenda would be really good friends in the safe haven because they’ve both had the flare before (obviously Brenda was cured relatively quickly but still) so they can relate to each other and Newt sometimes feels like Brenda’s the only one who really knows what he went through, so he talks to her about it when he doesn’t want to go vent to Thomas or Minho

- He has a lot of nightmares from when he was a crank, often dreaming that he had died or else had cracked and hurt someone and more than once has woken up screaming with tears in his eyes and blood in his mouth because he bit his tongue so hard.

- His broken leg gets better over time but it never fully heals. Jorge told him that he should really be using a cane or a crutch but Newt done right refuses either because he hates people making a fuss over it and he will still work even if the pain is so bad he literally has to hop around (Thomas isn’t having this either and drags Newt to bed and massages his leg for him)

- Newt still had suicidal thoughts. They aren’t as strong as they were in the glade and he doesn’t seriously consider trying anything but it’s always in the back of him mind. Thomas is the one who gets him his little safety pin necklace because he knows it’s something Newt struggles with ( and yes Newt did cry when Thomas gave it to him. Tell me I’m wrong)

I will do Minho, Gally, and everyone else but I’m splitting it up into different posts just so y’all aren’t waiting forever <33

I have a few thoughts on the Spain trip and the timing of Luke’s post the day after A posted the story.

I want to focus on the slide with the two people on the beach. I do not believe that this picture is of two random people on the beach. He could have easily panned the camera to the left or right or even cropped these people out of the picture. I think he was deliberate in leaving those people in the picture because he is laying crumbs for the fans. I think the picture is of him and NC. If you look at her picture with a fan after she returned from Malta, her face is tanned looking like she was on a sunny vacation. I know Malta is sunny but she was there for work and I heard most of that work was in a studio. She did go on a boat tour with JD (rumored) but they were in a covered area of the boat. Is there a possibility that she joined L in Spain for a few days after she completed filming MFT? I also believe the trip was recent and I do not put too much thought into his hair length because they may be changing the style for S4 and it does not need to be as long.

The other theory I have is regarding A’s post on her insta story the day before to make it look she was with him. I think there was some manipulation on the picture to make it look she was there hence the flashing to distract. She may have known about this promotional deal with the hotel from earlier but she was not there. What if L with the aid of N set a trap for her and she fell for it by telling her when he was going to post? He let her have her moment to try to deceive the fandom and then he came in with his post debunking that she was there. Most of his postings seem NC or Bton coded and was set up to make it appear he was there by himself. I believe he was there by himself at some parts but a certain blonde may have joined him for a part of the stay. She guided him on what pictures he should take including that white t-shirt which to me is reminder of the Shameless t-shirt she was wearing.

In closing I think L is learning how to play this SM game from L and I believe they are strategizing on getting him through this rough patch. We probably will not see a confirmation of their relationship until later this year. We possibly could get a hard launch at the Wicked premiere in November which puts some distance between them the chaotic summer.

One more thing regarding L’s like on A’s post and him still following her. I do not believe they are still together and him liking her pictures is probably some sort of deal they have which allows him to gradually distance from her without additional chaos. She has demonstrated that she is as cunning as a fox and is messy. I have noticed a pattern on likes from members of his family on the last 3 post to her grid. The last upload his mother liked the photos but then it was unliked after a few days. His aunt and his friend Carla have also liked the bobble head pose post but then they unliked it. I believe L probably brought them up to speed. She is also vigorously looking for modeling and dance gigs based on who she follows and unfollows.

Hi Anon, I'm intrigued by your theories. I'll respond with a bullet point to each paragraph:

I don't think the couple is of him and N personally. The woman seems wayyyy too tall to be N 😅 Lukey Newts is great at a lot of things, SM and pics are not one of them LOL I think it's just a random couple tbh. N did have a little bit of a sunburn in Malta, so idk if the fan pics really prove she was in Spain with him.

HOWEVER, I flip flop between if either A or N were actually on this trip with him, but I will say this. 1) L was quick to clear up the rumors that were circulating about his post in his stories (which is new behavior for him). He said look, N and I are good. Also, look at all this stuff for one person. NO, A WAS NOT WITH ME. I think whatever SM agreement he and A have includes him letting her know when he is going to post something on his grid or stories. So I think he knew she was going to do her normal SM games, and he wanted to be the one to have the last word. 2) The pics of him in his post-- HE IS LOOKING GOOD. So I do think someone took some of those photos of him (and we know who takes great photos of him 😉). This (and the fact that he just looked glowy and happy) is the only thing that makes me think maybeeeee N did join him for a little bit on the trip. But I do agree that it seems like his post and stories had a lot of nods to N and/or Bridgerton Season 3, and I think he was getting pointers from N regardless if she was there or not. Hmmm, I wonder why that might be? 🤔😂

I think IF L/N are currently together, we are going to get a confirmation before the Wicked premiere. Mainly because of the fact that the paps are so far up their butts, and the wilding that is happening in some parts of the fandom. I think they would rather control the narrative and squash the wild speculation atp. HOWEVER, who knows?? I really don't have a great prediction on WHEN they will go public. I personally think it will be sooner than later, but I think it's kind of just a wait and see game atp.

Summary: Newt finds himself transported to the ruins of the Last City in the future, where he reunites with Thomas and the others. But someone follows him to this other dimension, someone who has sworn to put an end to the Safe Haven.

Warnings: Themes of grief and loss, references to the Flare and infection, mild violence, fluff (let me know if there's anything else)

A/N: this is gonna have to have a part two- This also might not be 100% accurate to the post or what they had in mind but I tried my best. Some of this might be inaccurate in the series in general! I tried combining the books and movies somewhat.

One moment, he was in the Last City, worrying about the Flare overtaking him; the next, he stood amidst the ruins of the same city where he had been infected.

Newt looked around, dazed. He was almost sure this was the Last City, but how could this just happen?

Newt stumbled through the debris, trying to take it all in. The skyline of the Last City was unrecognizable, with shattered buildings dotting the landscape like ghosts. He tightened his grip on a makeshift weapon, a rusted pipe he found, and tried to steady his breathing.

He could still feel the Flare in him. It was like a physical thing. Worms swimming through his veins and into his organs slowly but oh so surely, but he could fight it. He knew he could.

As he moved cautiously, the soft scuffle of his footfalls echoed off the crumbling concrete. Suddenly, he heard a noise—something that sounded like a low growl, followed by a shuffle.

Crank.

He quickly ducked behind a fallen wall, sweat trickling down his brow.

But before he could gather his thoughts, he bumped into a neon sign buzzing faintly on the ground with his bad leg.

"Shuck," he swore quietly. Panic surged through him as he struggled to regain his footing, but it was too late.

The sound of footsteps grew closer, and Newt's heart pounded in his ears. He held his breath, hoping that whoever—or whatever—it was wouldn't find him. He couldn't fight a Crank with a shucking pipe.

Just as he thought he might escape, a figure rounded the corner. It was a tall silhouette, moving cautiously, scanning the surroundings. He held the pipe tightly. He could try.

"Who's there?" a very familiar voice shouted, echoing in the desolate space.

Tommy?

"Come out or I'll shoot!" Thomas yelled.

"Don't shoot!" Newt yelled back, dropping his weapon and stepping out into Thomas's line of sight.

The first thing he saw was the launcher pointed at his face. "Don't move!"

"It's me! It's Newt!"

"Newt?" 

"Yeah, it's me," Newt replied, stepping cautiously into view, hands raised to in surrender. "I don't know how I got here, but—"

Thomas lowered his weapon. His hair was tousled, and there was a smudge of dirt across his cheek, but the familiar intensity in his gaze remained unchanged. He wore a makeshift vest, frayed at the edges, and his shirt was slightly torn.

Oh shucking hell, that was not something Newt should be focusing on right now—

"Wait, hold on!" Thomas interrupted, shaking his head as if trying to dispel the illusion. "You were... you were gone."

"One moment I'm in the WICKED headquarters, and then—" He gestured to the ruins around them. "I'm here. I don't understand it either!"

Thomas's grip on the weapon faltered, confusion evident on his face. "This can't be real. How can you just show up like this? It's impossible!"

Newt took a hesitant step forward. "I'm here, Tommy."

Their eyes locked, and the world around them faded. "How...? I thought I'd never see you again."

"What do you mean?" Newt asked. "What happened?"

Thomas swallowed hard. "You—you died."

The blonde boy frowned. "What?"

"The Flare—I—I had to—" He swallowed again.

"Thomas, what do you mean?" Newt's voice wavered. "I'm here. I can't be dead if I'm standing right in front of you."

Thomas's expression shifted. "You were gone, Newt. I watched you... You were infected, and then..." Thomas's eyes widened.

"We need to get back to Safe Haven."

"Safe Haven?" Newt asked, still trying to process everything.

"It's not far from here," Thomas said firmly.

"Right," Newt said, exhaling. "Lead the way."

He wasn't sure what was going on but he trusted Thomas. He always would.

The first place Thomas led Newt was a Med tent. There were two of them, one on the outskirts of Safe Haven and one in the middle of it, just in case.

Brenda was there, turning to greet Thomas when her eyes landed on Newt. "What—"

"The cure! Now!"

Brenda stuttered before obeying quickly, getting a syringe filled with a blue liquid.

"Cure?" Newt looked between them, eyes wide, "You found a cure for the Flare?"

Seeing Newt again felt impossible. It was impossible. He was supposed to be dead. Thomas killed him. Newt begged him to.

But he was standing right in front of him. And he could finally finally save him.

Brenda basically stabbed Newt with the needle, and he flinched.

Brenda stared at him. "How?"

Thomas also stared. "Great question."

Newt cleared his throat. "I agree with that."

"I mean WICKED has to do something with—"

"WICKED is gone," Thomas said plainly.

Newt frowned. "It is? We did it? Can someone tell me what's going on!?"

"From the past...?" Brenda muttered in awe. "Is that even possible?"

"Might as well be," Thomas said, "Would it really be that surprising?"

Brenda shook his head. "No. I guess not."

Thomas didn't want to know how Newt got here. Not if there was even the smallest possibility it would take Newt away from him again.

Minho was the first one who saw Newt but the last one to approach him. Newt felt his eyes on him as everyone else rushed toward him, their voices overlapping in a flurry of excitement and disbelief.

Minho remained at a distance, his arms crossed tightly, a mixture of hope and caution on his face.

Thomas walked up to him and started talking to him quietly. Not once did Minho look away from Newt.

"Is it really you?" Minho finally called out, breaking his silence but still staying put.

"It's me," Newt replied, taking a cautious step forward.

A flicker of relief crossed Minho's face, but his eyes still searched Newt's, looking for any signs of the Flare or a trick. "You sure? You look... different."

"I'm okay. I promise."

Minho unfolded his arms slowly, still hesitant. "You don't look okay, shank. You look like you've seen hell."

"Maybe I have," Newt said, "But I'm here. That counts for something, right?"

Minho's resolve broke, and he pulled Newt into a suffocating hug. "Don't you dare leave us again," he murmured into Newt's shoulder.

Newt hugged him back just as hard. "I won't. Not if I have anything to say about it."

Janson blinked as he regained consciousness. Disoriented, he realized he was sprawled on the cold concrete. The Last City stretched around him, a shadow of its old self, with crumbling buildings and debris everywhere.

He pushed himself to his feet, brushing dust off his clothes. Confusion settled in—how had he ended up here?

"What the fuck?" he muttered. He needed to find out what happened and where everyone was.

As he stepped forward, he heard a faint shuffle in the distance. Janson froze, instincts kicking in. He quickly scanned the area, searching for any sign of life—or danger.

A Crank stumbled into view, its eyes wild and unsteady. Janson's stomach dropped. He had faced enough of these creatures to know how dangerous they could be.

He held his breath, waiting for the right moment. The Crank shuffled closer, muttering incoherently. Janson picked up a sharp, rusted piece of metal, ready to defend himself.

As the Crank turned its back, Janson saw his chance. He dashed out from his hiding place and swung the metal shard with all his strength. It connected, and the Crank collapsed, but the sound echoed in the desolation, alerting others.

"Shit!" he hissed, scanning for more Cranks. He needed to move quickly.

He sprinted through the wreckage, searching for shelter, a place to regroup and plan.

Ahead, a flicker of light caught his eye—a neon sign half-buried in debris. Janson picked up his pace, hoping it was some form of refuge. As he approached, he realized it was an old convenience store, its entrance partially blocked but he would still be able to get close.

He squeezed through the gap, the faint light illuminating the interior. Inside, Janson quickly searched for anything useful. He needed to find a way to defend himself if more Cranks came.

He rummaged through the wreckage, finding a sturdy crowbar. It felt solid in his hands. Just as he was about to exit, he heard a noise—a low growl echoing from outside.

The Cranks were close.

Newt sat around the fire with his friends now. They told him everything—their struggles, their victories, and how they created Safe Haven. The warmth of the flames provided a comforting glow as they reminisced.

After the topic turned much more light-hearted, Thomas animatedly recounted a particularly close encounter with a Crank, gesturing wildly. "And I swear, I thought we were done for! But Minho—"

"Yeah, yeah," Minho waved him off. "I'm just trying not to get us all killed."

Across the fire, Brenda chimed in. "You all are lucky to survive that. I'd take a different route altogether."

"Yeah, but your routes usually involve explosions," Thomas teased, earning a playful glare from her.

"Explosions are effective," she shot back.

Frypan, who prepared food, looked up with a smirk. "Just don't ask her to cook anything."

"Hey!" Brenda protested. "I can cook!"

"Just not without a few fireworks," Frypan said, shaking his head.

Newt leaned back. "You all really did it, didn't you? Build something good."

"Yeah, we did," Thomas replied, a proud smile on his face. "It's not perfect, but it's ours."

"And it's pretty shucking cool," Minho added.

"It is," Newt admitted.

Conversation drifted from here and there as Newt tried his best to focus on his friends, yet his thoughts went to Thomas. Unsurprisingly.

The way Thomas recounted adventures made Newt's heart flutter. It was as if the firelight cast a halo around him, illuminating his face. Newt found himself captivated, his gaze lingering on Thomas's expressive hands as they gestured.

Thomas's laughter resonated with him long after it faded, how the intensity of their struggles drew them closer together. And now, with the weight of everything they faced, Newt felt an overwhelming urge to bridge the gap between them, to speak what had been left unspoken.

"Hey, Newt!" Brenda called, pulling him from his reverie. "You in there?"

"Yeah, sorry," he replied, forcing a smile. "Just...glad to be here."

But he wanted to say more. He wanted to reach across the fire and take Tommy's hand, to share the truth of what he felt, but the words felt stuck in his throat.

Newt stood up, unable to shake the restless energy in his chest. He needed a moment to breathe, to think. He muttered some excuse and slipped away, the sounds of his friends fading behind him as he navigated Safe Haven.

The garden was quiet. Newt wandered among the rows, trying to sort through his feelings. The chaos of everything—the Flare, the memories, and now this inexplicable time shift—was too much to process.

He leaned against a weathered fence, closing his eyes, letting the cool night air wash over him. But just as he began to feel a sense of calm, he heard footsteps approaching.

"Newt?" Thomas's voice cut through the quiet, and Newt turned to see him standing just a few feet away, concern etched across his features.

"I just need some air," Newt said, trying to sound casual.

"Mind if I join you?" Thomas asked, taking a step closer.

"Not at all," Newt replied, giving him a small smile.

They stood in silence for a moment. Finally, Thomas broke it, his voice soft. "I've missed you, you know."

"Did you?" he smiled at the thought, then felt guilty at it. Thomas and his friends had grieved him.

"Yeah..."Thomas took a deep breath, his expression shifting to something more serious. "I thought I'd lost you for good. When you... when I had to..." He paused, "I didn't realize how much I loved you until it was too late."

Newt's breath caught in his throat. "You love me?"

"Of course I do," Thomas said, "But I'm scared. I don't want to admit it, not when we're fighting for survival, and not when I thought you were gone forever."

Newt blinked, trying to process this revelation. "I thought... I thought I was the only one."

He looked dumbfounded. "What?"

Newt laughed quietly. "Since you were a Greenbean, Tommy."

"Oh."

"Yes, oh."

Thomas's eyes widened in surprise, and a soft laugh escaped his lips. "Seriously? I had no idea!"

"Yeah, well, I'm not exactly vocal about it," Newt admitted. "I thought you'd never feel the same."

"I spent so much time worried about what would happen if I said anything," Thomas confessed, his gaze steady on Newt's. "But it sounds like we were both scared."

They stood in silence for a moment, taking in the quiet of the garden.

"We should get back, shouldn't we?" Thomas said, breaking the silence. Again.

"We probably should," Newt confirmed.

Despite this, they didn't move. Both of them waited. For something.

"Shuck it," Thomas muttered.

In an instant, the distance between them disappeared. Thomas leaned in, their lips brushing softly at first as if testing the waters. Newt's heart soared, and he deepened the kiss, wrapping his arms around Thomas's waist.

Janson had to keep moving.

He shifted and listened for any sounds of danger. The low growls of Cranks echoed in the distance. He wasn’t safe yet.

“Focus,” he muttered to himself. He needed a plan. His mind raced back to the last moments he could remember—fighting the goddamn children. The last he remembered, he had been with Theresa. How did he end up here?

The growling grew louder. His instincts kicked in, and he crouched behind fallen debris. He held his breath as a Crank stumbled into view, eyes wild and unfocused. It was close—too close.

He gripped the crowbar tighter, waiting for the right moment. Then swung hard, connecting with a sickening thud. The Crank collapsed, but more sounds of them echoed.

He scrambled to his feet, pushing forward, a single thought guiding him: survive. He’d find a way to escape this hellhole, and then he’d find them.

They were out there somewhere, and he would search this city and every inch of the scorched earth until he found them.

maze runner fandom thoughts on another novella from minho's perspective exploring how the gladers establish themselves on the island post-WICKED while also exploring their complex trauma and how they cope with their grief? because i would give ANYTHING to the lord our savior James Dashner for just one more bit of content for our beloved main characters (+ more content of sonya and harriet ideally)

i think it would also be very insightful and enjoyable to have a novella from minho's pov-- like, newt's novella confirmed and added on to a lot of the minute details of his characterization that i noticed!! i def think minho deserves the same attention !! + i'd love to see how other people view thomas more!!

Thomas - So Thomas is the leader of the group, and like Rumi, I think half demon fits him. No, hear me out. He worked for WICKED/WCKD. That past connection, along with the fact that it makes him feel like he is evil and not himself, is so him. Outfits: His primary colour is BLUE, atleast n my head.

Newt - This boy...how do I do this without offending anyone? He is like the Mira of the group, solely because I cannot believe that he could ever manage to rap.

Also, his outfits are always fire, with like black-blue but mostly green colour schemes (we all know why the last 2 colours are there...🏳‍🌈)

Minho - Yes, yes he is the rapper of the group. He raps in the more aggressive American style, since he needs to channell his anger into something.

As for clothing: go crazy with him. Anything with colour pallette of like red or orange. I can't have them all be cool colours, can I? BONUS: Teresa - And yes, Teresa is also half demon, because I personally headcanon Thomas and Teresa as siblings.

If people like this I WILL post more on this but I bet the fandom mixing is gonna confuse so many people. I love the idea of Newt feeling so betrayed by Thomas, I dunno...

Ok, so! Besides the usual, “Of course Newt made it to the safe haven, what are you talking about?? What's page 250???” jokes, I've also seen a couple of posts recently by people who were annoyed that we literally refuse to accept this man's death. And so I throw my opinion into the void. Yes, I love fix-it fics and AUs where Newt lives. In fact, they're all canon to me. But! From an analytical standpoint, I bring this controversial (??) opinion:

Newt had to catch the Flare. He had to die.

In this slightly long and largely unedited essay, I will explain why…

Newt not being immune, besides adding emotional turmoil and intense pain to the story, also added humanity to the Flare, the disease that robs people of their humanity. The Cranks could be perceived as soulless monsters, obstacles, plot development and nothing more. We know that they theoretically used to be humans, and we feel pity for them on some level, but it’s not the focus of our attention. Newt changes that, because Newt is a Crank, and Newt is a human, and we love Newt. I’m aware that other characters were infected before Newt was (in the book all of the Gladers thought that they were infected and in the movie Winston and Brenda actually were), but I feel like Newt being such an important character and getting the virus really brought this point home.

The entire series revolves around the choice between two evils: let the world fall to disease, or torture children for a theoretical cure. Newt experienced both sides of the issues (fell to the disease AND was also tortured for research before that, the poor guy). He understood the need for a cure better than anyone, but he also knew exactly what WICKED would do to get it. And guess what? Torturing children is never ethical!

Newt couldn't live, because then it would just be Thomas and friends vs. the inferior losers with the Flare. Newt didn’t deserve to die, but his friends didn’t exactly deserve for him to live (though they didn’t deserve to lose him, either). The world is unfair, and they couldn’t win everything. This, again, shows the complexity of the issue, challenging Thomas's decision to leave the city and give up on the idea of a cure.

Another issue brought up by Newt's catching the Flare and his subsequent death is this continuous motif of memory and identity, which obviously played a huge role in the rest of the series as well (everyone losing their memories before the maze, writing their names on the wall, remembering all of their friends that died). Newt has always been selfless and caring, and this continues even as he begins to lose his sanity and himself. Newt wants to hang on to who he is rather than turning into a monster, and, ultimately, he chooses death over losing himself. He lives on in memory, though, as well as through his journal. There are so many other complexities to Newt's story; questions of identity, depression, selflessness, bottled emotions, and love. All of this immensely complicates his death, and the fact that it was technically suicide. It's so important to have characters like Newt in fiction, if only to explore the depths of these issues. So many of us can see so much of ourselves in Newt. His story might not give us all the answers, but it does give us a reason to hope.

The truth is that life is unfair. Newt's situation emphasizes how true this is in the story, humanizing the Flare virus and drawing a direct comparison between wicked's goal and the goal of the kids who are running from them. Our world today is similarly unfair, though obviously in different ways. There are challenges and setbacks and hurt, just like in the story, but Newt proves that these troubles aren't all that there is. We can't escape every problem, but we can make the most of what we do have. We can love and joke and laugh with others, even if the world is falling apart. The ending might be sad, but the pages in the middle can still make us smile, and maybe help us inspire the next person to do the same.

Assassin’s Creed: The Glade -- a TMR x AC AU !!

OKAY SO I accidentally spiraled into creating a Maze Runner x Assassin’s Creed AU at 7 in the morning and now I’m obsessed so like… here’s the brainrot :3

It’s called Assassin’s Creed: The Glade (based off AC: Syndicate), a modern-retro UK-based Brotherhood AU where the Gladers are part of a secret order fighting against a powerful Templar regime. Just… Think of smoke bombs, rooftop chases, double agents, and a whole lot of knife-to-throat emotional damage :D

Even if you don’t know AC, think of mysterious underground resistance vs rich powerful elite, but make it traumatized young adults and a LOT of yearning. (I also heavily recommend getting into AC because it's an incredible franchise in my opinion) (This is also VERY AC: Syndicate specific, but I'll try my best to generalise it and make it easier to understand!!)

ALSO. Thomas and Teresa are TWINS because yes.

They take the roles of Jacob and Evie Frye. I will explain their characters in another post!!!

Minho: scout, strategist, sarcasm king. 2nd in command after Newt leaves

Alby: gruff commander of the Brotherhood. Trust issues. (hes basically no.1 in command)

Gally: war vet, internal ops. Doesn’t talk much but knows everything. (he's a yapper once you get to know him though:3)

Teresa: secret Templar trainee raised by Ava Paige, learning the truth the hard way.

Chuck: baby baby. Loves assassins. Wanted to parkour. Now lives in the Brotherhood’s basement probably. dont worry he's loved guys

Ava Paige: ex-Templar. Morally grey. Maybe wants to save the world. Maybe not.

Janson: rich Templar BASTARD. Wants to use the Piece of Eden to brainwash the world or smth.

Don't get me wrong I love incorrect quotes/Twitter posts for the maze runner but ever time I see newt dumbed down to "wish I was dead but I have a something more important haha" jokes a losses my mind a little more. Newts character is so much more than when he tried to kill himself in the maze, and his death was way more than a fulfillment of a wish to be dead.

Newt would not have been one of the gladers to escape the maze if that's all he was. If newt didn't want to be there he wouldn't have been newt is stubborn (not as much as thomas but we are shown this fact many times in the books and movies) newt decided he wanted to live before he even met thomas because if he hadn't he wouldn't have been there. He fought like hell to live and to see a world outside of the maze and wicked. To see everything he did and how much he had to fight be dumb down to "sad boy wants to die" is really a huge misread of his whole character.

I warn you this post is very long so welcome to he inner workings of my brain and 3am

Thomas

- ADHD!! You can’t tell me I’m wrong (this is kinda canon but it’s never actually mentioned) Will hyper fixate on things and neglect his well being

- His eyes are hazel, but they go green in sunlight with a lil bit of gold- that’s why newt’s favourite colour is green because its Tommy’s eye colour in sunlight but he won’t admit it he just says it’s a nice colour

- The type of person who does puzzles for fun. Again he will hyper fixate on a puzzle or task and won’t rest until he’s finished (unless Newt drags him to bed which he has done many times)

- Wakes up at 5am to go on runs with Minho. Minho wakes him up because Thomas gets made if he doesn’t and feels unproductive

- Cold showers all the time- unless he’s showering with Newt, then they compromise because Newt likes hot showers

- Either he’s extremely smart or extremely stupid. There is no in between. He could be going on about diffusion and the movement of particles between galaxies but then he doesn’t know how to tie his own shoe lace without making a huge knot he can never undo.

- He has extreme survivors guilt from everything happened to the point where he has panic attacks because of it. He always feels so guilty for helping WICKED, which of course no one blames him for but he always feels like he betrayed them and on the worst days he feels like he deserved to die for helping them hurt his friends.

Newt

- my baby has separation anxiety (I’m sorry!!) he constantly needs reassurance that the others still like him and especially from Thomas after they get together (which happens I will not be told otherwise) that Thomas still loves him and isn’t going to leave him

- This is also because some of the other treat him differently after he was cured- sometimes treating him like he’s fragile and delicate which Newt hates- he fears that the others don’t trust him and feels like he’s not cured and he’s going to snap and hurt them

- Being sick is also a huge trigger for him- he has a weaker immune system than the others due to the fact that he isn’t immune like they are so he gets sick a lot more often- even if its just a cold he gets super on edge, constantly checking his arms and pulse to make sure he’s still himself

- Thomas is always a help during these periods when Newt is anxious and sick, reminding Newt that he’s cured and that he won’t leave him alone. He makes Newt tea and gives him loads of attention- which Newt doesn’t love at first because he’s independent and thinks he can do it himself until Thomas puts him arms around him and kisses him softly and tells him that he loves him, then Newt just melts

- Convinced he has an acoustic guitar because my sister mentioned to me once that he would suit it and I cannot get the idea out my head. He would play it super well and use it to take his mind off things when his brain gets hectic. He doesn’t like playing in front of people because he gets kinda self conscious when everyone’s looking at him but he plays for Thomas when they’re alone and Thomas can’t take his eyes off him because he looks so beautiful.

- He still writes a lot, journaling, poetry, little stories he makes up. It’s kind of like a therapy thing for him when he gets stressed out and he doesn’t want to talk about it he just writes it down. He occasionally lets Thomas read snippets of his poetry and writing and Thomas loves it. Also loves reading so he and Thomas read together until Thomas gets bored and lays on Newt’s chest while Newt reads to him and plays with him hair

Newtmas

- Nicknames>>> Newt calls Thomas things like Tommy, Love, Darling etc. Thomas calls Newt things like Babe, Baby, angel etc.

- They both get anxious about the other one overworking, Thomas gets worried about Newt’s leg because Newt insists on working a lot to make up for the time he couldn’t work while he was recovering. Thomas knows Newt is okay and that he is independent and capable of doing it himself but he still makes sure Newt takes breaks and massages it for him to take the pain away. Newt gets nervous that Thomas is running too much and not eating enough because Thomas feels like he’s obligated to do it and he needs to do his part, but Newt in turn, makes him take breaks and makes sure he’s eating enough etc

- They are so touch starved when they get to the safe haven they are practically hanging off each other, constantly touching in some way. They’re walking? They’re holding hands. They’re sitting? They are pressed against each other’s side if not on the other’s lap. They’re sleeping? They’re cuddling. It’s little things as first just as they’re getting used to being able to touch each other affectionately whenever they want to but they get comfortable very quickly because they are so familiar with each other.

- To everyone else , Thomas is always the talker and Newt is the listener. Thomas always has something to talk about, literally anything on his mind he yap about to Newt and Newt listens because he loves listening to Thomas babbling about this and that. Everyone else agrees that Newt is the quiet one but god forbid when they’re alone Newt does not shut up. He doesn’t talk as much in large groups but as soon as it’s just him and Thomas he talks and talks about anything and everything that he’s been keeping to himself all day. He gets kind of embarrassed about it when he realises how much he’s said but Thomas loves listening to him talk especially when it’s something he’s passionate about.

- Newt’s limp okay. Newt is very independent and hates the idea that he needs help to get around or that he needs to rely on other people’s support but Thomas always talks him down when Newt’s leg is sore. He protests at first but all Thomas has to do is look at him with his big brown eyes and place a gently hand on Newt’s thigh and Newt gives in. Thomas makes sure Newt rests his leg, carrying him everywhere just to hear Newt whine that he can do it himself but still cling to him, burying his face into the brunet’s hair.

- Thomas has also perfected to making of tea and prides himself in making to tea every time he’s sad or in pain. He always gives the cup a kiss first, he did as a joke first claiming that it tastes better when it’s made with love but now it’s a must do and Newt complains that it doesn’t taste the same if Thomas doesn’t give it a kiss first

Gally:

oh gally.. poor gally and his absolute guilt and fear of losing himself again and killing another..

after he killed chuck for MONTHS he was terrified he would somehow lose himself again and kill someone else, he literally refused to even have physical contact unless absolutely necessary for so long, once he slowly got over his fear he never really got back to normal, hugs are EXTREMELY rare from him, even rarer then before.

gally refused to let himself grieve over chuck and the deaths of the Gladers that stayed behind until he literally couldn't because he believed for a long time he believed he didn't have the right to.

He refused to talk about them too, like if someone just asked about the maze or about what happened he would refuse to answer them

one day frypan brought up something about one of Gally's old friends on accident and he just started BALLING, it wasn't loud or anything just silent tears as he started insisting he didn't mean to hurt anyone, after talking it out with frypan a bunch and a few more times after he felt a bit less guilt.

After a long time he carved his old friends names onto the stone with the help of frypan, and him overall just being supportive and cheering him on :)

(As you can tell Gally and frypan being friends is like my fav thing ever)

Minho:

after Minho was rescued he couldn't tell what was real and what wasn't, sometimes he would insist that the safe haven wasn't real and that people were trying to hurt him or that wicked was going to come back and kill him

i also wouldn't be surprised if he developed some form of hallucinations along side it, long making him spiral further. slowly though they became less frequent and intense and he learnt to ground himself, occasionally he just squeezes his friends knees or shoulders to remind himself they are actually there or asks them "this is real right?"

Minho ended up with permanent insomnia and night terrors though, for the first month or two in the safe haven he would wake up kicking and screaming but soon it just turned into silent sleep paralysis.

he never gained all his muscle and stamina back, DONT GET ME WRONG HE IS STILL EXTREMELY FAST AND STRONG but not the level he was before. (slightly chubby Minho post death cure will forever be one of my fav head canons omfg)

He and Newt talk about hallucinations and not being able to tell what’s real and find a massive comfort in each other because no one else actually knows what it’s like. (Don’t get me wrong so many people in the safe haven have trust issues but it’s not the same yk?)

Newt:

Before I even get into the mental impacts of just EVERYTHING I’m just gonna mention the fact of how WEAK he would’ve been afterwards, the flare would’ve done numbers on his body that the cure couldn’t have fixed. He was probably weak for awhile (like a month or two) and his limp was significantly worse and he used a cane (after he got better he kept it because it just made everything significantly easier)

Also I feel like even thought he got the cure he still struggles with hallucinations and paranoia, mainly about him getting the flare again or the cure somehow not working

When he gets sick (like a cold) he’s SUPER on edge because it just reminds him of the early hours/days of the flare, especially if he gets phlegm in his throat or something. Thomas and Minho have caught him mumbling to himself saying "you don't have the flare you don't have the flare-"

he doesn't talk about when he had the flare to many people, maybe Thomas and Minho a few times but he wont go into detail.

Thomas:

the TRUST ISSUES. OMG. during the scorch trails he only trusted Newt, Minho and Brenda indefinitely, he trusts Jorge and everyone else to an extent but he occasionally has his doubts.

he's entirely desensitized to blood and gore, along with Minho and Newt. his pain tolerance is extremely high and if he gets hurt he never realizes to extent, like he could sprain his ankle or something and say "i just need to walk it off" as it turns purple and black

he got VERY protective of himself and the few people he does trust, especially Newt and Minho. anyone he doesn't know he has a fear that they are always lying and that everything they say is bullshit. basically a massive "trust no one (except like 3 people)" mentality.

even though he isn't a leader anymore he still feels the need to keep up this facade of being strong and fearless, even though there is no danger anymore.

he's super jumpy, always on guard and ready. constant state of fight or flight, anyone who's sitting around him he constantly as an eye on. sometimes even Newt or Minho on a bad day, for weeks post death cure if you touched him without warning he flinch and if he didn't he adrenaline would go through the roof until he realized "oh its just ____"
