Devlog #142

Hi-ho, Wudge here.

Time to talk about these past two weeks worth of work. Haha... ah....... The good news is that there's quite a lot. The bad news is now I have to type it all out. 😭 The things I do for love (for Herotome) amiright.

Note to self I'm gonna have to carefully save drafts of post throughout because, again, it's A Lot.

Ok so, we'll start off with some Mia stuff.

Outfit concepts!! Some of yall may recall I struggled hardcore with her hero outfit, but I think it's finally getting somewhere?? After uh... I allowed myself to use black. :') I had it in my head that Dart is the only one who can wear black-- but how unfair is that?! There's a limited number of color families in the world, characters should be able to borrow colors from each other in accent colors! So, I'm much happier now that I've gotten over that mental hurdle.

On the right is a 'party'/gala outfit. I have a few events in mind where the LIs can dress up and look nice, so this is a concept for that...!

I also made a bunch of these... cut-out images, so highlight her injured hand in-game... ....... Then I realized I could literally just. Show her full sprite and pan it down. Then add a lil spotlight/vignette effect if I damb well want to. :| So uh. I'll be throwing all these out I guess....... It was a learning experience!!!!!! just a bit of a painful one hahaha.

Moving right along, expressions.

I got through a huge set of Griffin and made some new mouth shapes for Mia! Much to my dismay, Mia's lips are rather more detailed and thus take a bit more time to render..... but I'm getting the hang of it.

I also have been coding in these new expressions for the Mia and Warden scene in the federal center lobby.

Here's a preview! Maybe I can make a gif of a few branches to crosspost to Ko-Fi...

As for Griffin - I haven't started coding in any expressions yet, but I did set up all his PNGs and can show off the full set here:

The pictured tool is by Feniks - wonderful, wonderful way of seeing all the expressions at once and quickly converting a specific mood from image into code (which you can see in the lower rightmost corner). I highly recommend it for any renpy devs who are have an overwhelming surplus of character expressions!

And I experimented with a ghostly text effect (using altered code from Wattson's dripping effect). It's hard to read at the moment and I dont love it - in Herotome it will likely have a proper outline and I might use a special font. It's inspired by this one artist named Endling - back in my teenybopper deviantart days, he had this comic with a big bad wolf character who would talk like this--!

And of course, updated art of these fools (as seen in my last not-devlog last week)

I also wrote.. a decent amount... did a fair amount of outlining/plotting.... and Remnantation and I made progress on a new Griffin CG... I designed some other potential NPCs.......

...... You can tell I'm running out of steam for this devlog, I'm sure. I think that'll do it for now.

Hey Wish Rewrite fandom!

I'm back with this week's RFTS!AU offering, inspired by this post from @oh-shtars. This time, Asha takes the spotlight in our angst fest (yay!). This drawing captures the night Asha tragically lost her father in a house fire.

But don't worry, I've got plenty of Sueño drafts lined up and plan to finish them soon. I'm also thinking about drawing some hypothetical interactions between Asha and Sueño as kids to bring some wholesome content to the fandom…hahaha.

I'm also working on human designs for the characters of Indigo Park. I have a whole AU planned for that, so stay tuned Indigo Park fans! For those unfamiliar, Indigo Park is an incredible indie horror game that you should definitely check out!

alive shannon 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 (but much more enthusiastically)

yaaay I love talking about this fic haha

so, the alive shannon fic is my most precious baby, and I love her sooo much (both the fic and shannon haha)

the idea started bc I was tired of the discourse and hate on Shannon bc she doesn't deserve it, and since I first watched the show I always just felt so bad for her - but that's a whole rant sitting in my drafts so that's all I'm gonna say on that atm hahaha

the fic is going to be basically a rewrite of canon where Shannon survives the accident and she and Eddie get divorced, and she stays in Christopher's life - so she sticks around and she and Eddie become friends/co-parents, and she's gonna get to know Buck too (I think they're on their way to become besties tbh lol) - and most of all she and Chris will get to have a relationship

so that, and all the events from canon that are still gonna happen and how it might differ with her around - and in the middle of it all Buck and Eddie will slowly fall in love, and she's gonna be so 👀 about Eddie and Buck's relationship and eventually she's gonna be like: these oblivious idiots are never gonna get it istg haha (she might meddle a bit too, and I kinda want to get it up to the end of s4 with Ana just to see Shannon be like: it should be Buck, wtf is eddie even doing lol)

and I'm just excited to explore these dynamics, and Eddie moving on and letting himself fall for someone else (Buck), and him and Shannon getting the closure they were robbed of in the show haha

it's gonna be switching pov with each chapter so we'll get all three perspectives and it's sooo much fun to write and I have sooo many ideas (as of now there's almost 20k words, and I'm still only on chapter 3, didn't even get to the truck bombing yet, so it's gonna be fucking long lmao)

there are already way too many snippets posted here, you can find them under the alive shannon fic tag (this post is tagged as this too lol) but here's one more that I'm not sure I shared haha - it's from chapter 1, from Eddie's pov, and it's him and Buck waiting for news about Shannon's condition at the hospital, and not knowing if she survives or not

He thinks back to his and Shannon's latest interactions, to her coming back, to the chaos of their relationship, that Eddie knows isn’t good, he knows that, he just can’t help wanting to fix it – she’s his wife, how can he just give up? Maybe it was good, once upon a time, before they were thrust into parenthood and marriage way too young, before they were pressured and divided by Eddie’s family, their suggestions sounding more like orders, now that Eddie thinks back on it, orders that he followed, being just a dumb kid. Maybe if he hadn’t left, if he stayed and supported her, if they did it all together, like the partners they were supposed to be… But there’s no point thinking about what ifs. It’s all over, whether she survives or not, and he just has to make his peace with it. He thinks back to their last conversation, and he hates to admit that she was right. “She wants a divorce.” he hears himself blur out, voice hoarse and breaking, unused in hours. He’s not sure why this is what he’s focusing on right now, why this is what he wants to tell Buck, but at least he’s not breaking down. He’ll allow himself a moment for that after he talks to his son, after he knows- “Shannon.” he croaks out, as if there was a need to specify. He feels Buck’s gaze on his face, but he can’t look up, can’t look into those worried blue eyes, or he’ll drown in them, willingly and completely, not ever wanting to swim back to the surface and face this cruel world. “She asked me for a divorce.” “Eddie, I’m so sorry-” Buck starts, but Eddie interrupts him with a bitter chuckle that sounds almost like he’s choking. He might as well be, he thinks the only reason he’s still breathing is holding his hand right now. Only other reason is back home, not realizing what’s happening, just doing his homework or watching cartoons. Eddie really doesn’t want to bring him bad news, he’s too young for this. “She’s right. I couldn’t- I didn’t want to see it. But she’s right.” he sighs, readjusting his grip on Buck’s hand, but not letting go. He doesn’t want to ever let go. If he did, he thinks he’d just crumble into a million little pieces right now, left for Buck to pick up. And he has no doubt Buck would, every smallest piece, and put him back together again. Really, what would he do without him? How did he do it without him until now?

I left off with teddy leaving me on seen three times and me going to therapy wo knowing what to do, so me and my therapist agreed that what I should do is to just think about what to tell him, and I was like, thats genius. so I went to Plurinational friend's house to do a group task, which was pretty satisfying because I was able to help out quite a bit and that was super cool. But then I went home and I ended up hooking up with this guy I had fucked before like hahaha well... He also said "it shows when there's feeling" and I was like "mm well no, you just have a huge dick and I have a fetish for older men" and I dont think im ever fucking him again cause that was awkward. Why am I so perfect everyone has to fall in love with me? Everyone but him...

So after this I go and send Teddy a reel and deleted Grindr. Yep, I did not, in fact, think what to tell him, I just sent him a reel. And he just answered "hahaha" and I wanted to kill myslef. So you'd think I was done but I wasn't, but it was all part of a more complex plan that was successful? yet it wasn't?

So I sent yet another reel the following day, to which he answers and I ask how he had been and he said fine and sent a picture of his office, I answered back and sent a picture omw home, and he leaves me on seen. AND This is where I go with my utter manipulation? tactics yet really just assertive communication skills. He leaves me on seen and I proceed to double text saying "I feel like I’m being super annoying haha, I won’t bother you anymore, sorry" and that he can reach out whenever he needs something. he says its just that he's got a lot of work and I say I just won't disturb him as much. That same night he asks if I wanted to go over the following night, to which I answer yes and to let me know when he's ready, bearing in mind he gets off work at 6. The next evening comes by and he doesn't text and it's around 8 already so im like 😐 and I text him like how is it going to which this mf answers "good and you?" BITCH WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HOOK UP. So it turns out he went for drinks afterwork which is totally fine but he also did have plans with me. So at 10 I just hit up equestrian friend and we have lunch together and I sorta just explain to her everything that has been stressing me in some regards other than this whole sexual-affective situation, and she was like "seems like a lot" and thats when I knew I was on the verge of suicide because on top of that I had to deal with this awful situation.

At this point I was super mad at him so I just decide to draft some messages telling him this behaviour is unacceptable and some others in case his reaction wasn't good. But truly, so fucking much for me being too young if you can't fucking deal with your agenda.

So I decide to post a story around midnight of the street with time attached so he knows I didn't stay home waiting like a dog, and you'll never fucking guess, he watches it around 1:30am. So at this point im just pissed cause this asshole is awake yet unable to send a message saying "sorry, I dont think im gonna be able to make it" which is just like outrageous to me.

So that was last night, this morning I took the license to text him, and first ask just how it was last night, to which Im like im glad you had fun, however its a huge asshole move to ignore that we had plans and go on to do something else because, but on a super nice way because I do wanna fuck him again but Im still firm at this point. So he apologises, I let him know im not mad im just upset even tho I reality I could literally burn his apartment down, and I end up on a lighter note with some sex jokes just so the vibe is not as heavy. Was it a bad strategic move? definitely but I knew that from the beggining, I just need to get through that he can't just abuse my time but he could hit anytime he likes and now I understand why then girls stay in toxic relationships for no apparent reason. so then I leave him on seen. Because as established, I was not going to disturb him as much anymore.

On one side im upset he didnt ask to reschedule today, on the other hand im glad he didnt if he was not actually willing to give me that time. This whole situation has made me utterly upset because i haven't ever had this sort of thing happening to me, well yes, absent friend likes to act this way, this is why I never hang out with her anymore, and I really dont need this type of energy in my life. It just makes me angry because I know exactly how he's thinking and how oblivious of my time he is being, saying things like "he can wait" to himself and that is something that makes me furious.

This is why I could never get mad with GG blond, I trash him too much but he never really misbehaved and im sure he was also upset about a few things, but he was always super cool and nice and yk what? he would've never acted this way or give such mixed signals about already complex dynamics. Cheers for gg blond for being a real one. I also noticed that both Teddy and GG blond are Leos, just like me, which makes it all super fun because duh, the most attractive thing a man can have for me is good hair, and us Leos just have the most utterly gorgeous hairs.

Anyways, King mate and ex-redhead mate wanted to go to the arcade and I was like sure but not really because im super broke and I have a home market tomorrow so I have to safe for that. Anyways, King mate texts me today asking if I was going and I was like idk, and at the same time ex-redhead tells me, if you and Emo are not going me neither, because King's BOYFRIENDS AND HIS FRIENDS ARE COMING. And for the record, we hate her boyfriend. At this point emo friend and I had agreed already to stay home and smoke a blunt so thats what we'll do, and fuck her for tricking us into spending time with her shit boyfriend.

I am now sending my mom every position I apply to because im tired of her saying im not doing enough, she wants information? she'll fucking have everything, until she asks me to stop. Which, believe me, won't even be. a fucking week. Im tired of her thinking im not trying, now she'll fucking see what all of this is about.

I took this afternoon to work on some professional things I had to do, I rested a bit, I went climbing alone and also went to have lunch at Cheesy friend's because he lives next to the climbing gym. It was a good day. I would just like to see teddy but its better if he stays away until he is actually willing to commit to a time.

Decided to make this a weekly log with notes I make throughout the week. - Yesterday someone complemented my german for the first time, it was a sweet older lady. I feel very proud hahaha; - reached level 7 on wanikani; - slowly moving from one wanikani review a day to two, but not sure if it's a good idea for the active recall; - so on wednesday I studied in the library, which was nice, except for the part that they were drilling there. What was the point of coming there i'm not sure. (ノ_<。) I have finals coming up so I prioritise those for now, but I still have time for minimum japanese.. On that day I tried the new system where I write down on paper all the new vocab I get in Wanikani and wow, as soon as I started flexing my brain to do intelectual work my body went into sleep mode. I don't know why it works like that but it has been a while. I used to be unable to study at all because of that buy medication and vitamins help. Maybe I should get it checked again since it's apparently back.. - So I did a test and apparently my vitamin D level fell below 10 again and it's been really messing with me. It's difficult to do anything when the world is spinning and you can't get out of bed. I take a high dose and went from extreme lack to mere insufficient but now it fell again, I'm not sure why.. Gonna take some magnesium and calcium to help it absorb and hope for the best. (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ) - I actually wrote a bunch of posts for this blog already but I keep them in draft 'cause they need polishing, but because of that when I checked my blog and realised I only have 2 published blogs it felt really empty.. I'm gonna try to push the drafts out asap, otherwise they'll stay in this limbo forever.

LMAOOO it’s so bad i feel like looking back my time in high school just sounds unreal?? i sent a picture of my eye to another guy i was friends with (in the same friend group as the other two ironically) to show him my new mascara and no joke he responded with an entire verse comparing my eyes to “the heavens” 😭⁉️ and there was also a point in my senior year when i kinda liked a junior on the soccer team (so bfb reader of me but like. reversed.) but for some reason everyone shipped me with the captain of the soccer team?? like people would harass my FRIENDS asking if i liked him…meanwhile i liked mr junior varsity who didn’t even get playtime 😓 it was so bad too i went to a soccer game and everyone thought i was attending to watch the captain, INCLUDING THE GUY I WAS INTO 😐 i went up to congratulate him after the game and bro fr said “did you see the captain play he was amazing” i just left at that point because what can you even do…these are relatively tame in terms of mira lore sadly KJSHGHDFK this is why i have never had a boyfriend or first kiss or anything like that 💔 they’re all CRAZY 😱

IwaOi fanfic recs: my top 10

Okay so I have like so many wips that I keep looking at and then I like don’t? do? them? It’s fine :’))))) But instead of me finishing those, here’s my top 10 picks for IwaOi! This will probably become a series for the ships I like, but we’ll see LOL. Usually when I rec fics, it’s just any that I’ve read and enjoyed, but these are the ones I keep coming back to! Also I made this cause the IwaOi ship has SO many fics and if I had to do a WHOLE fic rec list, I would never finish (ie. the sakuatsu draft ahahaha).

1. The Loyalty of a Traitor by DeathBelle (E) 76.9k /cp/ ok so does me liking this fic make me basic cause I feel basic LOL. I really love mafia fics, and the way the story line developed was SO good, like IN LOVE with this story. This is a fic where you should read WARNINGS, TAGS, and SUMMARY before diving in, but if the length scares you, don’t be. It’s so easy to fall in and get lost in the writing!

2. Conquering the Great King by SuggestiveScribe (E) 105.6k /cp/ I LOVE THIS SERIES AHHHHHHHHH. Honestly I know the 105.6k word count is SCARY I UNDERSTAND BUT it is SO worth it. This is the first fic of the series and it's mainly IWAOI, but there are other ships too so if IWAOI isn't your thing, check for the other ships :) Also if you don't mind smut (cause it is explicit for a reason LOL) then please I beg of you to read the whole series!!!!!!! I love love love this one and it really got me invested in the whole fanfic thing LOL.

3. Shiver by Yuu_chi (T) 16.7k // THIS UGH. I’ve BEEN in LOVE with this fic for like five-ever omg. It’s SO good and the character portrayal and plot progression in this is AMAZING. Whenever I come across it, I always reread it cause it’s just so worth it! (Also that paragraph about Iwa trash talking himself made me laugh OMG.)

4. the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle by kittebasu (chanyeol) (T) 66.3k /cp/ again, basic? Probably LOL but it’s good so I have no shame ;) Again, pls don’t let the word count scare you (cause it scared me LOL), you get really into it after like 2 paragraphs, so just make sure you have enough time to finish hehe.

5. dyspnea/arrhythmia by carafin (T) 10.8k // I adore medical fics and I also love Iwa being good with kids,,,, (I think it’s very fitting okay? And the pokemon cameo was great) This was such a great fic and Iwa + Suga being friends is SO CUTE (crying into his orange juice, I want to be). I REALLY loved this fic, and the ending was *chef’s kiss*!!!! (STAN PAEDS IWA)

6. Build A Temple In Me by Authoress (T) 39.7k // God Oikawa and idgaf Iwa is such a good combination. UGH. I loved the plot of this fic and the conflict was done SO WELL. I also loved how Iwa kept coming back and HIS GRANDMA IS THE BEST <33333 But also their friendship was SO CUTE (THE SONG GUYS THE SONG) and poor Kyoutani :( (There’s also a spicy second fic you should read hehe!)

7. i'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you by baekuugo (insxouts) (M) 22.5k // UGH SINGLE DAD IWA? Yes please!!! I really love the plot in this one and sassy Kageyama + Hinata + Yachi is such a cute friendship! Also a proud stan of the IwaOi + SugaDai friendship agenda,,,, I love them. (Beware some spice is included aka smut LOL)

8. to be first, to be best by kittebasu (chanyeol) (T) 26.4k /cp/ okay I think I've read this fic like 3 times already (4 now cause I reread it for this list and I remember why I love this fic AGAIN LOL OOPS), but the plot never sticks with me LOL. Not cause it's a bad fic, but because I have a crap memory. Regardless, I know it's a good fic because like I said I managed to re-read on 2 3 separate occasions so yea. (it’s a really cute fic and I really enjoyed the ending, esp the extra! Also stupid, oblivious iwa is bae)

9. silver tongue by ohhotlamb (E) 10.3k // OKAY THIS WAS FUNNY. Like the betrayal and such made me laugh and it was embarrassing. All the emotions in one LMFAO. And like everyone in this fic and the secret operation? OMG. Anyway, there’s a second fic and ITS PRETTY MUCH GOLD AS WELL so like go read them both (RIP pizza party) :D (SMUT ALERT AHAHA)

10. love me like you do by crossbelladonna (T) 100.5k // this fic was SUCH a rollercoaster omg. First, the concept itself was great and the execution was flawless and Ushiwaka was ajfnlajsdnf. AND THE ENDING!!!! THE ending omg. And Lev being a car made me laugh LMFAO. And we love f ups AHHHHH. If this made no sense, you’re right,,, it didn’t,,, so you should go read it so it does HAHAHA.

In hindsight, this 10 limit made me cry because I had like 20 of them and I had to sift through them but even then the 20 was from a larger pile which was in a larger pile.... TLDR: I wanted to put more fics :’))))) But honestly, the ranking of these are pretty loose and like when I say that I mean you could literally just randomize the numbers and I would accept it LOL. The way I might just end up making a pt 2 of IwaOi cause as I was making this list, I kept rereading all the fics (which is why it took so long to come out hahahahahahha) and I fell back in love with IwaOi (like I was ever not lost in IwaOi hell)...... But yea these are my “top 10″ theoretically (misinterpret that as you will as I cry over the fics I couldn’t/didn’t include).

BONFIRE, BONFIRE!: A COLLECTION OF FLASH FICTION + POETRY

so i’ve decided to compile all twenty [these will be split into two so that the post isn’t super long] of the writing pieces i’ve done for my random celebration into one post so that it’s easier to read / access share!! you can also find it here, all put into one work, on wattpad, because i feel nostalgic about that website and decided to just post it!!

NOTE: i know that this shouldn't need to be said, but these 20 pieces belong to me so please don’t copy/repurpose it for your writing!! i plan on using these somewhere in my own writing and either way they’re stuff i’ve written so don’t use them!!

1. cooking + destructive + purple from @andiwriteunderthemoon [also i kind of cheated with this prompt and asked my sis @dreamscanbenightmarestoo for ideas and so the base idea’s from her!!]

I didn’t mean to set my house on fire, alright?

Let me set the scene: I’m sitting in my room, watching the infomercials that blur together, and suddenly there’s a bright purple flash on the glitching screen: /grapes/. They’re shiny, plump, and oh? A recipe for fine wine? Don’t mind if I do. So I pop into my kitchen and cut the grapes, dice them up, finally using the knife after years of not cooking— /mother, are you proud of me now?/— and stick the soft, luminescent fluid into a glass bottle. Following each step of the recipe.

The recipe didn’t mention an explosion.

Destruction rained around my house like a meteor shower. The bubbles from the fluid, frisking up at contact with metal, swam across my shoes and into the living room. It touched the TV, which still flashed the recipe, which I was still cursing at. And then, you know, it burnt up. The couch scorched first, I think. So that was fun. I later realised that I’d used my reserve of petroleum, which I’d put in my kitchen cabinet, instead of vinegar. I think I’ve got to move back in with my mother again.

2. running + quiet + sky blue from @kryskakikomi [i have no idea what this is i drafted this in a fever dream state]

Summer crawled up his skin like a worm. He was seated at his dining table, crosswording his way through the sticky morning, when it struck him that the humidity was new. He’d been caught in summer before, of course, but this year was different. His parents had whisked away to their hometown, and he still didn’t understand why he wasn’t allowed to go. He loved their home— he could have been running on beach sand and waves could have cruised over his feet, and his face would reflect sky blue under palm trees. Instead he sat doodling and scratching at cement walls in a quiet that nagged at his ears, grappling his flesh like a fishing hook, reeling him in. Boredom, him sister told him, before she also left for someone’s home. What would you know? he whispered once the door latched from the outside. Maybe /she’d/ like to sit on the same wooden chair, all the pink paint worn out, and scratch out squares of empty text until the pen poked through the other hand. He scoffed. At least he knew the number of scars on the wood; he could hold that over her when his parents returned.

3. hallucinate + hazy + violet from @chloeswords [i wanted to write something dreamy and ethereal but everytime i look at your url i’m reminded of church mud and indirectly my religious trauma so here we are 🤡]

We hold the book in our arms and chant for God. We don’t know what he looks like. They say that he’s sharp, never pixelating or blurring or showing through, like a hazy image would. No, children, our family says, he will come clothed in gold and velvet— the colour a deep and rich crimson, or chartreuse. And of course, he weaves a violet into his hair. Because he is just that humble. Just that gentle. Loving.

We’ve almost understood now. Pray, clasp our palms together into a transient equinox, and pray. Maybe he will shine down on us. Maybe we will speak so loud and chant so long that our lips will chap. Maybe we’ll simply hallucinate him to salve our bones. Our family says, he will bless you. And so he will.

4. halcyon + pluviophile + beige from anon [i was yearning for cats i am a cat person i love cats]

I remember my life before I moved to London,

Those halcyon days that I spent scooping up cat litter and brushing warm fur,

Being a mother to beige and white and black little felines.

They keep better company than humans.

Now I’m a self-proclaimed businesswoman, artist, influencer, pluviophile,

Even when I’ve barely stepped foot outside during the rain,

[But it needs to be said that when it rains in London, it pours].

I think I’d like to open a cat cafe;

I’m rich enough to pull it off.

5. sing + vulnerable + olive green from @occiidens [this was actually super fun to write because it’s a break from the typically unhinged stories i gravitate towards]

You watch from the highest hill of your town, hand wrapped around the serrated wood of a red oak tree. The bark pokes into your flesh, drawing blood that shouldn’t have been taken from you. You scowl. Just another thing that lives to cause you pain.

Three storeys down is a young man, short and smiling and lovely. He has dark skin and darker hair, walking with the stride of a deer, and he’s smiling; the joy reflects onto your face, even though you can’t hear him. He wears a cotton shirt, the olive green stark against the fire-blue sky. You call out, sing his name, three times in a row.

When he finally looks up, squinting as you silhouette under the sun, the smile widens. A wave. You’re suddenly overcome with embarrassment. Your palm digs into the bark until the wound is freshly dug again, the skin supple and vulnerable. You want to wave, but your hands would look so awkward, and the blood wouldn't help. So you turn on your heel and run— why are you so awkward?— and the grass around you is brighter. This is now a tomorrow issue, you conclude. You’re still smiling.

6. dislocate + ostentatious + blood red from @oasis-of-you [this got really unhinged really fast. TW: body horror]

If you take a turn at Finn Avenue,

Rogue your way down a blood red river,

[It’s not actual blood, do not worry. The colour’s a pigment and it’s saturated enough to give you the texture, the touch, the taste of blood, but I repeat, it isn’t true blood. You might think that it’s ostentatious of us to make you cross a river like that, but you’ll understand why.]

And if can stick your fingers inside the fluid,

You’ll find a bone.

Don’t pull it out fully! Only observe.

[This is a real bone, most likely animal. We may be ominous, but we don’t hurt humans. Not yet.]

So what do you do now? You want passage into a better world.

You came here because you saw the brochure, the flyer,

Radiant Idyll, home for love, but you also saw the jutting anatomy that leads to the city. The pictures were rather clear.

Why do you look so surprised? We’ve put this on the brochure— don’t you ever read the fine print?— to avoid this exact situation. That you would cross a body, a skeleton, pooled over in a fluid that we don’t name, but it’s probably alive.

It’s watching you right now.

So what do you do now?

Hurry up, unhinge your arm, dislocate the elbow, drop it into the blood, forgive me, false blood, and pay for your passage.

There’s an orange tree. It’s spring, and there’s an orange tree, and it brims with fruit and citrus perfume. Point your lens flare downwards, and note, a boy. A young man, perhaps, because he combs his hair, uptight and firm, and he wears a tie. A long suit. He doesn’t look up, because his hand holds a book. /He/ holds the book, not the hands— tenderness doesn’t translate through anatomy, I’ve taught you this before. He’s waiting for someone. There’s only the rustle of leaves. He drops the book onto the lap of the tree, crushing the apple that had fallen down. Orange, not apple. Take note better. You only have one chance to get this right.

The goddess had said this before she died: you need to watch over him. He needs your sentry to survive. The goddess’ words weren’t heeded. Little baby Jupiter tottered on lava as him parents small-talked with their kingdom. Well, it must have been small talk, because nothing seemed to happen afterwards other than his mother’s face collapsing in agony, anger, annoyance. He knew not to touch them then. He’d fly off into the sun one day, but if his hands were but and charred, he wouldn’t survive even a third of the journey.

The prophecy was simple: the firstborn to the kingdom will metamorph into a celestial, purify themselves so that only stardust remains. Live in the sky forever. The astrologers were baffled; you don’t just become a star. They should have heeded the goddess.

Jupiter was sixteen when he expanded and collapsed all at once. He still lives, they say, and the astrologers /were/ right, in a way: people just don’t become stars. They become almost empty space. Nobody knows if his hands were burnt when they left earth’s orbit forever.

Hahaha. The Horror Movie (don’t ask me for a name, I’m not good with those), with its cymbal crashing and plastic sounds, it’s so loud and scary that it hurts, father. Please turn it off.

Father doesn't listen. I shiver on the couch. The screen flickers like radio static and reflects off our wide eyes. What kind of a home is this anyway? I don’t want to fucking listen to a laugh track or a horror VHS tape or watch the bass crescendo as the serial killer jumpscares the watcher. I don’t think that having hour pupils glued to the same blood-splattered movie, with the same recording looping in his eardrums will help him. He laughs along, sometimes. It’s scary. Father needs a new hobby.

how do you get inspiration for these omg like the ones you make just fit???? do you have like certain scenarios or headcanons for each of the boys or is it just a random thing??

The ideas just come and go as I go through my day HAHAH at the most random times honestly. As for the character assignments... issa struggle. Sometimes, I know who I’m thinking about in a flash, sometimes the character is the first thing in the blurb, and other times I’m constantly changing who it is while they sit in my drafts HAHA. It’s a trial and error kind of thing while I try to picture the scene in my head, like “who’s most likely to say/do this?” It’s like a test of dynamics and prompts, if that makes sense? That being said, yeah, I do have a certain image of them in my head, which directly translates to the ones I paint in my posts. hmmmm for me they’re like this:

To start it off, Lucifer is subtle, all hidden smiles and stolen moments. His feelings are quiet, but they’re free flowing. It’s like slow dancing in the living room at midnight or sweet lullabies. There’s a lot of fondness here, and a bit of craving on his side.

Mammon is the sweetheart here (next to Beel) and is 200% bitten by the love bug. He’s in a constant honeymoon phase! It’s always playful and fun, which is why he doesn’t have angst content yet

Ah, and best friends to lovers? That’s my trope for Levi HAHA. It’s overdone, but it fits so well! I like to see him as this long-time high school boyfriend; it’s familiar and comfortable. I wouldn’t really say that the relationship is entirely innocent, but it’s leaning towards the soft vibes.

People would think that I should write angst for Satan since he’s my fave brother, but that’s exactly why I can’t do it. I’m definitely biased in this sense hahaha. Look, he can’t grasp his emotions, can’t figure them out, so when you come along and make him feel all these things in just one year? Bruh. It’s like that magical first love we read in stories and wish it came true for us or am I the only one who thought that idk w yall HAHA

When it comes to Asmo, it’s always tender and loving. I want to make it seem like he’s still relearning love while he’s with you, that sensation always pulling at your heartstrings. Compared to Satan, it’s more on the volatile and fragile over here, hence the angst

Beel is like Levi and Mammon, leaning more to the fluff and softness, but the former has occasional angst content. He’s got his moments of insecurity and fear, but most days he just wants to be with you, no matter what either of you are doing. He’s this big ol’ soft boi that just wants cuddles

For Belphie, hmmm, I try to make him cautious and wary, unsure about things while simultaneously being certain of his own feelings for you. He’s in conflict, but doesn’t want to lose you, so he’s kind of vulnerable and doubtful, but he’s trying

Oh, yes, dear Solomon. He’s got more angst than fluff. I like pairing him with the soulmates or lost lover tropes. He’s been around for a while, but he’s still human - he’s lonely. He could have all the riches and wonders of the world, but he can still lose you, if he hasn’t already. That kinda thing. Or he’s that chaotic neutral funny boyfriend you just mess around with.

Contrary to popular belief, Simeon is one of my favorite characters. The angst potential in this relationship! He’s an angel; he deadass saw what happened the last time one of them fell in love with a human. So if and when he catches feelings for you, and realizes it? Oh my, oh my. He’s at a push-and-pull conflict with himself between wanting and running.

Haha so, it will NEVER be romantic for Luke. Other than being the little brother type, I like seeing him as the naive person who’s learning the ways of the world firsthand. If I could write more, I’d have a full-on story of him questioning all his values and morals as he stays longer and befriends the demons lmao fun

Ah, Barb! I love torturing him with angst. He’s always one step behind, whether on purpose or not. He’s restrained, always pining for you. He overthinks so much that when he FINALLY indulges himself in you, he loses all reign of control. It’s why he can’t move on in my posts haha

Diavolo... I rarely write him as I don’t have a good grasp on what I think of him yet. So far in what I’ve written, he’s always stolen MC from the others HAHAHA Dia stans send help please

Devouring The Phoenix and The Phoenix Rises kept me up way too late reading and made me way too tired for work the next morning, but it was so worth it! There are infinite things to love about Olicity, and infinite things to love about this talented writer. Matty, I know I can speak for more than just myself when I say that your stories mean a lot to this fandom. You’re already one of my favorite authors, but I can’t wait to read The Predator as a novel. And watch it captivate the rest of the world like it did for Olicity fans. Kudos: How can I possibly summarize why Macha’s works are so special? She writes with a perfect blend of compelling plot, moving emotional development, and effortlessly beautiful prose. She writes characters that jump off the page, so that we hurt and rejoice and lust with them. She adds elements of surprise and delight to even the most well-worn tropes, infusing them with the essence of Olicity. Her canon-related and AU stories always feel like just another (and in many cases, better) path that Oliver and Felicity could have taken. Every word she writes is a treat, every story is a gift to the fandom. I know this sounds effusive but it’s barely scratching the surface of how amazing her works are! Kudos: anthfan’s stories were some of the first I read in this fandom, and WOW what a high bar she set. Those of you who know me know that I tend to prefer canon-related stories to AUs (well okay, more recently I have begun to love AUs too, but canon-related will ALWAYS own me), and anthfan just hits that pitch-perfect spot of great storytelling - intriguing twists, heartfelt scenes, perfect characterization, and ANGST - OH, THE ANGST - while still remaining in that familiar Arrow universe we all know and love. And nowhere does she shine as well as when she’s taking well-known tropes and giving them a uniquely Olicity twist. Devil’s Backbone remains my favorite Olicity fic of all time (probably!), but truthfully I wish I could read every one of these stories over and over again for the first time.

Bonus Kudos: I thought the first chapter of Dust to Dust would actually kill me, but it proved itself to be clever and badass and witty and FUN! Miyuki is currently being investigated by the NPB for suspicion of the use of PEDs during the recent season, and possibly prior seasons. His managers and the Yomiuri Giants’ have yet to comment on this scandal. However, it has been confirmed by NPB officials that Miyuki has submitted samples to a lab to be tested.

Forte’s Fan Character Flashback Friday - #11

Name: Kaede Hatake Series: Naruto Background: So, this is probably the last Flashback Friday; turns out I'm kinda out of fan characters to really bring back - at least those that I really remember or have images of. But I will be ending this series off with a bang, I guess, cause today we're going to talk about one of my favorite fan characters who has way more development than a fan character really needs, but hey, I enjoy it and it's fun.

Anyway, I've posted stuff for this character before, but have a lot more I can share and have been kind of holding back for this post.

This is Kaede, my long-lived Naruto fan character. As cliche as it is, she supposed to Kakashi's adopted daughter, who of course, also happened to repress her memories of her actual family and birthplace and thanks to the Third Hokage's permission and whatnot, was able to just more or less seamlessly mesh into living in the Hidden Leaf village.

She was created right after I really got into the series, which was back around 2007, which correlates with one of the earlier images I have of her on my dA. You can see that one here, actually: https://www.deviantart.com/forte-girl7/art/Hatake-Kaede-69525304

Fun side note for that, I had done that image all on the free program GIMP and with a mouse and I'm still amazed at my younger self for having the patience to do all the things I used to do with just a mouse. I've been spoiled by my tablet, haha.

Anyway, one reason why I've been so attached to this character is because, like Rey a while ago, I used to RP with this character on a Naruto RP forum. However, this forum was much more active and the person who RPed as Kakashi was super into the idea and we really ran with the different scenarios we could put the two in. I'm actually still friends with that person and we talk about it from time to time and after the forum itself had gone under, still wrote fanfiction things together, just for funsies.

There's another reason why I got attached to the character and it's kind of a weird, personal, psychological reason, but could really be applied to a lot of my fan characters. As you may have noticed over the course of this series, a lot of my fan characters are either a character's daughter or younger sister. I never did the love interest thing; it wasn't and still isn't a thing that I was into. Not sure why, really, but not my thing.

The gravitation to having characters with older brothers or I suppose "idealized" father figures, however, I can totally explain. The brother thing is simple: I've always wanted an older brother, but as the eldest of the family, that was never going to be a thing. So, I guess I tried to find some kind of surrogate relationship with my fan characters. The same can be said with the father thing, too, but I do still have my dad around and while he isn't the worst dad, I guess he could have always been better. I don't want to paint my dad in a bad light, but he's always been a bit overbearing and had a lot of expectations for me that he pushed so much, I'm sure it didn't help with how my mental state's progressed through the years. Really, it's still a thing I deal with to this day and the more I think about it, the more I understand my younger self's need for "better" father figures to attach myself to.

Kaede was definitely one of those characters, and with someone like my old RP friend fanning the flames, it was hard not to get attached to a source of escapism that I really craved and needed at the time. That and having a set up like that and also have a friend who funnily enough cosplayed as Kakashi at one point saying "she should be canon", well, that's how you make a 14/15 year old's day, haha.

Anyway, I do have a lot of older art for this character (plus a lot of newer stuff), that I'll put next. I'll try and put them in chronological order, starting with some of the older stuff I have.

She's had a few different outfits over the years, though I do have a lot more stuff of her in more random outfits not really connected to her "actual" design. You can tell I was going through that "young weeaboo" phase looking at them, cause there are some of her as kitsune, some of her and Kakashi transformed into dogs, lots of them with bad fashion sense, and even here, she used to have a giant, paper fan as a weapon, cause "they have those in anime". And yes, I know, Temari has a giant fan, but her's is actually like.. a bamboo folding one, while the one here is obviously just a silly paper one that again, you would see in anime as a gag item.

Also, a few notes about some of her outfit inspirations: her earliest outfit looked way too much like Sasuke's, which I wanted to stray away from, but was hard considering I insisted on keeping her color palette the blue/tan mix.

One reason for wanting to stray from that is because of Kaede's odd stance when it comes to Sasuke. Personally, he's not my favorite, but Kaede herself is at odds with him, because of Kakashi's focus on training Sasuke in the earlier part of the series, mainly because of their mutual connection that is the Sharingan. Kaede has a slight inferiority complex when it comes to this relationship and is a major source for her lack of self confidence in her abilities.

Also, one of the later designs is an obvious rip-off of Kakashi's outfit from the Gaiden storyline (the bit where he actually gets his Sharingan). I liked elements from it, but again, would go on to tweak it so it wasn't just stealing from another character. Of course, if you look at the designs (and naming conventions) for a lot of the characters that are related... well, sometimes it seems like they didn't try much harder, hahaha.

And as another note, the reason why some of these images have the dA watermark on it was because I got these from my storage on there and they had those enabled. For the next few, which aren't in storage, I'll just link to the actual dA posts. These are still fairly old at this point, cause I haven't posted a lot of the newer stuff on there or anywhere yet, cause I've been... just going crazy on making new stuff and not posting it.

Those two are from 2009 and 2012, while the ones earlier were posted in 2007ish. Also, the age progression there is pretty similar to the current one, though in the most recent, her older outfit reflects the changes to the general Konoha shinobi found in Boruto.

Now, this is just all visual development for the character. When I say a lot, I mean, a lot, cause there's also a written development to go with this. Granted, a lot of it is more recent, but that's because of me being weird.

Some of the posts there on dA do have the startings of a character profile, but they always say "I'll post most later" or "I'm still working on her profile" or whatever and that never came to light. That's mainly because, as I've mentioned before, I'm oddly pick about how plausible my characters may be in the canon universe. Kaede is no exception and may be the one that really sparked how particular I am about it.

I've been meaning for the longest of times to actually write a fanfiction that more or less adds Kaede to the story, though through research/rethinking, I would now add events not directly connected to the manga/anime, which would be needed either way, cause it's not like I was gonna shove her in the background of every actual scene from Naruto's story. However, because Naruto was still ongoing when I got into the series, I decided to bide my time and wait until it ended and how things unfolded.

While now that it's ended, that means I can comb through everything and actually make sure everything's covered, but it was quite an thing to tough through, considering some of the things that happened in the later chapters of the manga. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone really, but the series is pretty old now at this point and into their next series anyway, and some of the stuff that they pull off and hope you accept in the end game of Naruto is a bit much and trust me, you do not want to get me started on THAT topic, hahaha.

Anyway, now I'll be sharing some of the stuff I've been working on the last bit of time to actually maybe see that long-form fanfiction come to fruition. Please note that a lot of them are still a work in progress, but they have come a long ways since those earlier profile/backstory promises. It turns out that sitting down and combing through stuff, even after the fact, is a lot of work and very time consuming, because again, there's a lot of baloney that Naruto really hopes you'd be fine with, when sometimes they themselves don't stay the most consistent, especially when it comes to their actual time line.

I'm trying really hard not to go on a rant here... so let's move on the links and I'll explain them one by one if needed.

Profile Here's Kaede's current overall profile. It includes the general things on a profile sheet, like name, appearance, personality, backstory, and the likes. This also covers the same parameters for Kaede through the year, because I want to be thorough cause I'm weird like that. I also have little skill charts that use the same ranking system found in the Naruto Character Guidebooks, because I guess I like to waste time, hahaha. The backstory part of this is also kind of serving as a rough draft/abridged version for certain story events I'd like to write out, so sorry if they read... weird.

Relationships This document goes into more detail of Kaede's relationships to other characters. Kakashi's isn't full filled out yet, though it should probably be one of the longest ones, but I've been focusing on other characters, mainly her extended family, that I've been adding to bolster her backstory. There are line breaks between certain groups of characters, and the order after Kakashi should be Kaede's actual parents, her extended family (mainly a lot of her mother's relatives), Kaede's teammate and sensei, Naruto and the others of Team 7/Kakashi, and then other characters from the show.

Supporting Profiles Now, because I'm making up a whole gang of extra characters for my silly little OC, that means they also need profiles for a bit more fleshing out of their own, so that's this document, cause I just don't know how to stop myself sometimes. These again follow an order in their appearance, going from her biological parents to extended family, then teammates, followed up by teammates/colleagues of her biological father.

Technique/Skill List Pretty self explanatory. There are technically two versions of this list, where the other is really just a list. This one is the spreadsheet that covers other parameters of the various techniques/skills/jutsu/whatever and where I keep other notes.

Timeline This one is pretty much the biggest pain the neck for me, because again, it's taking time to cross reference the canon timelines that sometimes muddle themselves up anyway and can be annoying, yet amusing to read. This timeline focuses mainly on characters directly involved with Kaede, such as her extended family/what have you, so it's not the same in-depth one that I've been using on the Naruto wiki. Again, I'm trying to put her into the story, but that doesn't mean she's present and/or relevant to everything, cause she wouldn't be, hahaha, though there are some events present that are only there as kind of reminders for what's taking place in the main storyline.

As seen in the supporting profiles doc, all the characters I've come up with have designs, too, or are in the process of getting them and I've posted sketches and finished versions of them on my Patreon, cause those are also still a work in progress. I want to say I'll post them when they're done, but with me, who knows when that'll be, so I'll just some of them here now:

random thoughts 4:39 pm

Long, madrama, messy post ahead because I haven’t written anything for months—not even a draft. It makes me a little sad because before, I could (somehow) put my thoughts into words. It’s been difficult lately because I’ve been so busy that I’m starting to lose interest in my passion projects.

I’ve been so focused on achieving my “goals” that I’m losing track of what’s really important. Lately, all I want to do is work. I feel like I need to do more because I failed to reach my original goal. It’s exhausting. I’ve never felt content with my efforts. Everything feels like it’s not enough. People keep telling me I’m doing a great job, but deep inside, I know I can do more. This has always been my struggle—even as a kid. LOL. Not blaming my parents, but them not celebrating my wins when I was younger definitely had an impact on my older self! Hahaha. Just kidding. Love them.

I wanted to reward myself for completing a lot of tasks at work, but I don’t think I deserve it.

I finished our Emerging Leaders program, but I didn’t tell my family about it because I still feel like I lack the skills to be a true leader.

I know how to drive and I got my license, but I don’t feel like celebrating it because I’m still not confident in my driving skills.

I had a salary increase, but I don’t consider it a win because it wasn’t a promotion.

It’s not that I’m not grateful for these things— I just don’t think my efforts are enough. Maybe I sound like I’m humble bragging, but there’s always a voice in my head saying I can do better. I always want more, because I believe I deserve more.

I’m working hard because I don’t want to depend on anyone for my happiness, wants, or needs. It might sound irrational, but based on experience, I can really only depend on myself.

Anyway, I miss going to concerts. Avril canceled her concert and it sucks! I was so disappointed that I unfollowed her. A lot of bands and artists are coming to the PH, but I’m not a huge fan of any of them. I’m still waiting for Fall Out Boy to announce an Asia tour. 😭

Gahd, I want to ride a plane and travel outside Manila, but there’s so much to consider now—work, time, and money. I already booked a flight to Taiwan and I’m looking forward to that. But other than that, I don’t have any travel plans yet. I miss Nanay and Tatay. I want to go back to Mindanao, but I can’t work there because of the internet connection. I miss them so much. TT_TT

There are days when I just want to stay at home and do nothing, but that makes me anxious too. I just want to go back to a time when I felt calm and serene. Right now, I’m overwhelmed, but I have to keep it together because—duh! I have tons of things to do and achieve. LOL.

Despite the chaos in my head, life has been good lately, and I’m blessed to experience it.
