Where I keep my crutches so they are easy to access from my bed and no one falls over them.
They are attached by bendy wires covered in latex I keep wound around them all the time.
Unfortunately I need a new elbow cuff as someone tripped over a crutch somewhere I couldn’t secure it that way while I was sitting down, kicked it over and left it lying on the floor where it was further damaged 😞 It wasn’t with me where I would have preferred it to be in the first place because of how inconvenient that was for others.
Tumblr media
Once my PIP comes through I’ll need to order another one. It’s luckily not *that* expensive, but it is the second time this has happened without apology or care and makes my use of this vital mobility aid harder until I sort it out.
It’s frequently not discussed that not only are mobility aids expensive - wheelchairs, for example, can easily cost more than the average car - and difficult to access at the best of times, but how often disabled people end up having to pay additional costs - which can be *enormous*, especially for things like custom wheelchairs - despite habitually living in poverty, for repairs to them because of abled people’s lack of care and respect for these things that are absolutely vital to us.
I’m lucky that this doesn’t make it completely unusable and isn’t extortionate to fix.
That still doesn’t change how painful it is that I can’t go anywhere with my crutches, rollator or wheelchair without not only being reminded how much the world is not only actively hostile to me due to inaccessibility, but by having people actively be shitty about my mobility devices. I can’t keep them with me anywhere without being constantly reminded how “inconvenient” that is for people, despite the fact that they are clearly more visible and frequently take up less space than, for example, handbags or backpacks.
If you are with anyone using a mobility aid, please treat their aids as part of their body. Please don’t touch or move it without consent and please don’t complain about it. For me, certainly, very little makes me feel less welcome anywhere.

Research from the sutton trust about social mobility and university attendance, you can read the full paper here:https://www.suttontrust.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Universities-and-social-mobility-final-summary.pdf
It's interesting that it shows that universities are still a driver of social mobility in this country, including for the very poorest. But what this doesn't show is that only 16% of students in the poorest group attend university, compared to 75% of those who went to private school.
Whilst there are some great trends in terms of widening participation at universities, there's a lot of barriers in terms of getting to uni for the very poorest. There's also a trend to discourage people from attending university if it's not a "good" uni or seen as the right course- and a trend to push students towards apprenticeships as these are "better".
I've long suspected that apprenticeships are not "better" in terms of long term outcomes, and this data seems to back that up. Furthermore, the research shows that a lot of unis that aren't especially "selective" or high ranking can have really good outcomes for students.
There's lots of other factors involved, but I think it's really interesting that this report shows social mobility is possible BUT it also implies the existence of some really serious barriers.
And, of course, the idea of meritocracy is deeply deeply flawed- because you shouldn't have to be clever, or more able, or able to fight your way out of poverty to have access to a decent standard of living.
But the report is interesting nonetheless.

Welp. The vet was very kind enough to give my guide dog an arthritis shot for free today and if this helps her I will be going into debt every month until she dies. I hope it helps her feel better. Old lady has done a lot for me in these nine years and I hope she can do one last big trip in a few months. The vet actually started crying and for a second I thought she was going to suggest we do something else for Petey. o_o But she was just really moved by how much this dog means to me and paid the bill for the shot out of her own pocket and waived the vet visit fee. It was really sweet. I still had to put about $90 on my credit card for antibiotics (she's got a skin infection again) but not having to pay an additional $160 on top of that helped.
Today was long and I'm tired and sad that my good buddy is getting so old. I dunno how long she really has left but I'll do my best to make it as good as my broke ass can manage. She's a damn expensive medical device (was already costing me about $200 a month as is and I live on a fixed poverty income) but I love her and she's worth more than money to me.

So, while I was fighting procrastination(and losing miserably), this idea hit me as hard as Undyne hits her food while cooking.
So... What if... AUs Dating Show?
Hear me out! Error is being more problematic and destructive than usual, the Star Sanses don't know what to do, and that's when Blue comes up with the idea of the dating show.
He knows Error is a sucker for drama and love triangles, since he saw him enjoying UnderNovela, so Blue thinks that the glitchy skeleton will be too invested in the live dating show to go and destroy other AUs; plus he would probably want to spare the one participating to the show for obvious reasons.
Dream(being the noisy skeleton he is) loves the idea, Ink is a bit hesitant at first but gets convinced by the other two.
The problem is? Somehow you got chosen to be one of the participant in the show, in your AU undertale is just a game, so not only you discover that to be false but you also end up in the Undertale Multiverse version of Love Island?!
.. And that's it.
That's how far I brainstormed LOL. But now I want to hear yall out, who do you think should be/want as a participant??
I'm down bad for both Classic and Fell so I would want them for sure, and if we put also the Paps in this, US and SF have to be there... DAMN WHY DO I WANT SO BAD TO PLAY A GAME THAT DOESNT EXIST?!

every other day i think about that story vincenz tells about talking to the bellboy (?) named moshe from the subsistence-poor ghetto in either warsaw or kraków circa...1923 (presumably after reading about the beer hall putsch) who was like "my relatives are freaking the fuck out about the nazis consolidating power & the ascendancy of fascism & this guy hitler especially & they think it's going to spread to poland in homegrown form & we're going to get murdered in droves like the armenians" & then all his upper-class & middle-class assimilated intelligentsia friends, well into the 30s, were like "antisemitism isn't really a problem 💕 everything is Normal 💕"

A Rent Tract For Lew Welch // David Meltzer
At the first of the month I went to the Rental Agency.
--Listen, I told her, -- I can't pay this month's rent because I quit my job because I have a great work that I am working on that demands a great deal of all my time. My job was a rock in my heart, a black cloud in my head, & I am a poet who needs time to be alone, to wander, study, loaf & drink, think, read, love my wife, learn about my children, & work every day & every night on my great work. I gave this month's rent to my wife for food, diapers & wine. Won't you just forget about the rent until my great work is done?
--Sure, she said, writing out a check for $229 (the exact amount to tide us thru a month) -- & come back at the first of the month for your next check, she said & turned back to her ledger.

Class 1: "What’s Happened to Income & Wealth" by UC Berkeley Professor Reich
Robert Reich
Full Playlist: Wealth & Poverty Welcome to my undergraduate course on Wealth and Poverty. This is the first of fourteen classes. The questions we’ll focus on today: Is some inequality both inevitable and necessary? At what point, if ever, does it become a problem? What’s the difference between income and wealth inequality, and which is more important? How do income and wealth inequalities overlap…
