talked about in more detail here but tl;dr unambiguously yes. it’s one of the strongest portrayals in the series of grooming, abuse and trauma, and I really don’t think people would consistently struggle to identify it as such if the genders were reversed.

it never ceases to grate me that the public perception of anxiety disorders is now so ass that when faced with someone being annoying or obnoxious online everyone's first impulse is to respond like "oh now the cant phone a restaurant crowd has shit to say" even if the obnoxious person in question has never once said any such thing about having phone anxiety. or any anxiety at all. the impulse to assume, with no evidence, that whoever youre pissed at today MUST be debilitatingly, clinically anxious, which of course explains how they are so annoying, and also makes them a hypocrite (which then allows you to smugly call attention to this hypocrisy, and everyone nods along, even though, and i cannot stress this enough, you invented the hypocrisy when you armchair diagnosed some rando). and then when u call it out people will argue that nooooo ofc they didnt mean anxiety disorder havers, they just meant someone who has the exact symptoms of anxiety. this person who i just made up isn't actually debilitated by their anxiety, they're just pretending it impacts them that badly for clout and sympathy, but i see through them, and i know based on their vibe that they'd be part of an online hate mob, which of course has a causal relationship to not being able to order a coffee (did i mention btw that not being able to order a coffee makes you a pathetic loser, and ofc being such a pathetic loser it's immediately obvious to everyone that you have whichever opinions im denigrating in our current online argument. obviously. because they're the pathetic loser opinions, and there's literally no better shorthand for 'pathetic loser' than describing a symptom of an anxiety disorder)... do you see it.

What do the proxies get each other for Christmas ^^?

The Proxies

Outside of the top of their Christmas list, which is a spot reserved for Slender's gifting, the proxies get each other a few things from their lists but also some surprises.

Tim will get everyone the necessities. Gear, thermals, and something nice to eat like chocolate or a favorite sweet. He might even make his prized cinnamon rolls that everyone loves.

Brian is the fun yet responsible uncle, and gets things on the list that play into entertainment/leisure. A new game, a gift card to a nice restaurant, headphones, mental health books, and the like.

Toby goes all out for gifts, and saves up multiple paychecks just to splurge on his friends. He gets the best of the best, and some extras that everyone doesn't really need, but appreciates the thought anyway. He'll also get gag gifts, including those ugly fish loafers. Brian still wears them in the warmer months.

Clock is the best gifter in the group, and always seems to get just what the person secretly wanted but never wanted to ask for. She will get everyone something personalized for them, reflecting their hobby or personality. A keychain, shirt, hunting knife, etc.

Kate is terrible at giving gifts, and would rather just buy everyone gift cards or get what's exactly on their list with an amazon link included.

and it is so... utterly draining when i see a thousand and one opinions on the AI miyazaki generator that focus on the iconography or ethics of his works and i just keep thinking about how many japanese hands made western animation possible. rankin-bass stop motion was animated in japan. ralph bakshi's tolkein adaptations and the last unicorn were animated by the animators who would form studio ghibli. inspector gadget, rainbow brite, the adventures of sonic the hedgehog, batman: the animated series, gargoyles, ducktales, the animaniacs are ALL from tms entertainment's contract work. i definitely see the AI generator as an attack on an artist who has expressed only disdain for the concept, but also, japanese animators have been generating your art on both sides of the pacific for longer than most of the people on tumblr have been alive. are you actually upset about exploitation of japanese arts or do you just have proximity to the current topic?

can you see the exploitation when it doesn't affect your interests or if you couldn't find a video essay on the topic?

I finally finally finished Priory and honestly, I feel very meh about it. One of the reasons it took me so long was because I was starting to get bored halfway through 🥲 It kind of felt like the author couldn’t decide to focus on characters/relationships or the worldbuilding, and there were waaaay too many characters for the quality of the book imo. I expect giant character lists from a big high fantasy series but in this it just felt kind of aimless. I really don’t have much to say about it. It felt like there was so little chemistry wrt the main romance and most of the characters were so half-baked that I don’t feel like I really knew anyone. I appreciate certain things about it but tbh kind of disappointed I spent time on it. At least the fanart I’ve seen has been really pretty though.
