the fantastic beasts movies flopped critically but still grossed $1.8m. regular ass people still go to the harry potter theme parks constantly. i know this is tumblr but i refuse to believe that fanfiction writers are the main culprit for hp’s cultural staying power and i’m not sure it’s productive to scold them when many are doing their best not to financially support jkr

I don't know what you mean by "productive", I'm not trying to produce any result here. If someone is in the Marauders fandom they've already decided that raising the profile of Rowling's creative work is worth it to them. I just think that in this particular political climate, it's disingenuous not to point that out.

Studios monitor trends on social media, they gauge audience interest by watching fandoms, tags, and how many people in certain demographics are interested in the media in question. If anything, they assign too much importance to those numbers. But they're enormously sensitive to them, and projects have been greenlit or cancelled based on what C-suites believe they indicate. The Marauders fandom shows executives and financiers that there is no reluctance to engage with Harry Potter from Tiktok-active, often queer young people, particularly older Gen Alpha. It makes it clear to them that people who are, again, in a demographic that is pro-trans rights, will not hesitate to be involved with J.K. Rowling's creative output, if not her tangible branded products.

Whether they're right nor not remains to be seen: maybe the show will flop. But the money has already landed in Rowling's bank account.

Many regular people love Harry Potter. But I think Marauders fandom is the social bellweather that allowed HBO to take the risk, and know that saying Harry Potter "is about friendship, resolve, and acceptance" while working closely with Rowling would be profitable. They may be crucified on social media in pockets, but not enough to slow them down.

Creating a post for what I feel was an inspired response: Hot take but I feel like ambessa gives daddy issues and silco gives mommy issues. Silco is like, an overindulgent parent who would hang up ur ugly art on the fridge and refuse to acknowledge any of your (serious) faults at the PTA meeting, while ambessa would tell you to suck it up after falling and crying as a kid. she would begrudgingly show you how to change your oil and make fun of you the whole time for not already knowing how.
