if lions didn't have such a massive presence throughout human culture from antiquity and had instead been first described in like 1793 i think they, with their human hair and very short, plain, often fly bitten coats, would be known today as a particularly ugly animal, the worlds most shitty and homely big cat

The Wedding
Paige Bueckers x Annie Herald (fem!oc)

Annie loves routine. Specifically, she loves her morning routine. She also likes the rest of her daily routines, like her commute to and from work, her lab duties and assignments, and her nighttime routine. So naturally even when she travels she tries to stick to it. Which is why she is up at 5 am walking the gravel paths around her best friend’s (and college roommate’s) grandparent’s large Connecticut estate. The fresh June summer air was crisp, and it was just dewey enough outside that she could start to see the first beams of early morning light shining through. The light accompanied the slight chill on the path, but Annie liked the bite of it through her sweatshirt since she had her handmade ceramic mug full of a nice hot latte that Carly, the bride, had made her, which was keeping her hands warm, so she was a happy camper.
Paige, on the other hand, was not. She trailed slightly behind Annie, thinking about how she let Annie wear her warmer UConn basketball sweatshirt, and she was now regretting it. She kept her hands in the pocket since she didn’t like coffee, and it made her look like a little kid who was sulking.
Annie caught a glimpse when she came to a stop over a small overlook and giggled to herself.
“P, I told you not to come if you were going to insist on being so miserable.”
“I’m not miserable.”
“Really?” Annie questioned, taking small steps towards Paige like she was walking the plank to her girlfriend.
“I’m never miserable when I’m with you,” was her response, which made both of you crack a small smile.
“Aw, you’re such a sweetie sometimes,” Annie said and slipped her hands into the pocket of Paige’s sweatshirt since she had brought them face to face.
“Sometimes?” Paige asked, changing the sweet moment back to their normal banter.
Instead of continuing with quips, Annie swayed up onto her tiptoes and pressed her lips to Paige’s. She intended to plant a simple peck, but when she started to roll back down, Paige took a hold of her elbows and kept her up, reveling in the soft warmth of her lips.
Too soon afterwards, Annie picked up her coffee mug from the ground and started back down the path at a slightly slower pace.
“Will you walk next to me now?” Annie asked, now the one to behave like a kid, whining a little. “Pretty please?”
They fell into another silence on the walk back to the house, both women wondering to themselves how they had gotten so lucky.
Carly had been up before 5 am to make lattes (her love language being acts of service) for all of her bridesmaids. She also had the earliest call time for hair and makeup, since she was the bride. As she was a morning person, she was fine with this. She had also, of course, gotten to choose the brunch-time wedding.
Annie got into the chair around 5:45 am, and Paige decided to sit like a dog at her feet. It reminded them of the braid chains they used to form in college, which was the tried and true method for great game day hair. Annie didn’t play basketball like Paige and Carly, she had played lacrosse. The end of Paige’s season overlapped with the start of her own, so February and March were always the hardest for them.
Running Paige’s soft gold locks between her fingers, Annie traced a path down the back of her head and gently togged Paige’s hair tie out before slipping it onto her own wrist. Then she started to dig her fingers into her girlfriend’s scalp, rubbing slow circles back and forth. She knew Paige liked this from previous experience, but she confirmed it again when she felt slightly more of the weight of her head in her hands as she pressed.
Eventually the stylist needed her to move, and she no longer had the same reach as before. Ever the innovative scientist, Annie instead singled out two strands two twirl between her fingers, one for each hand. She tried not to smile as she noticed the photographer crouch down to snap a picture out of the corner of her eye.
The ceremony was just as beautiful as they had expected with the gorgeous overlook and morning light, but the reception had truly blown it out of the water. Carly’s grandparents had a huge yard and a beautifully done garden. Long wooden tables adorned with mismatching cutlery and wildflowers in oddly shaped vases stood on authentic Persian rugs. In the center of the tables there were even more rugs, which Annie supposed was the dance floor. Paige recognized the garlands made of different patterned paper and ribbons that were hanging with the string lights from Carly and Annie’s dorms over the years. They had made one together on the first day of classes each year. Carly had gifted Annie one for her first day of graduate school.
Annie and Paige were seated at the wedding party table, in between their college friends. They ate and drank, laughed and cried happy tears, and burst with excitement when they got to tell Carly’s husband their stories that they had jokingly proclaimed “wedding reception” stories when they had happened. Now Morgan got to hear all of the “I’m going to tell this one on your wedding day” lore.
Later they transitioned to the dance floor, moving to the hits and a few songs from their locker room playlist from their glory days, which got everyone dancing. Just as Annie was getting tired and turned to head back to her seat to rest, maybe eat some dessert, Nobody Gets Me by SZA started to play. A warm, familiar hand curled itself around Annie’s wrist, and she let Paige pull her back to the dance floor. This was their song.
Somehow, their outfits worked together when their bodies were pressed close. Annie chose her soft orange floral dress (from the options she was given by Carly) based on how it would bring out her darker brown hair and warm brown eyes. Paige, of course had worn the purple option, but she had ditched the suit jacket long ago.
Paige shivered as Annie cupped her face with her cold hands, before running them down her shoulders and bringing them to a rest on her lower back. She let Paige lead them in their swaying, occasionally singing lines to each other.
“Had me butt naked at the MGM” is the first one Annie chooses, which makes both her and Paige giggle.
“I don’t wanna see you with anyone but me.”
“Nobody gets me like you.”
“Only like myself when I’m with you.”
“Nobody get me, you do.”
In the following silence, Annie felt Paige tense slightly underneath her hands. Then she took one of her own away and pulled something out of her purple pants pocket that she couldn’t see.
“Can I ask you something?” Paige prefaced, to which Annie bit her tongue to hold back her remark about how that in itself was a question. She felt the weight of the moment, and had a guess about what was coming next.
“At someone else’s wedding? Really Paige?”
“You don’t even know what I’m gonna ask, Ma.”
“Carly is the one who introduced us, I guess it’s fitting.”
“I asked her before, you know, if I could do this now. If she would play this song for us.”
“I love you and I want to answer your question, but you know I don’t want it to be public.”
“Look around, sweets. No one is looking. I won’t get down on one knee until later.” She shot Annie a wink at this one, which got her to crack a smile.
“Alright you can ask me, but on one condition.” Annie said, pulling Paige behind her by the hand as she dragged them off the dance floor, swiped her purse from her chair as they passed by, and brought them into the first door they found once inside the house.
“I get to ask you first,” she finished. She set her bag on the ground, fished out a purple velvet ring box, and hiked her dress up so she could kneel. Paige was too stunned to move.
It wasn’t that she was surprised Annie was proposing to her, since they had been discussing marriage and proposals at length for the past six months. Paige was surprised that Annie was doing it at their best friend’s wedding, in the coat closet, after she had tried to do it first.
“Paige Madison Bueckers, will you-“
“Yes.”
“Hey! I’m not done. You still don’t know what I’m asking you yet!” Annie joked, laughing. Both women had small tears forming at the edges of their eyes.
“I love you so much, Paige Madison Bueckers, and I want to be by your side for the rest of our life. Will you marry me?”
“Yes.” She said and her voice cracked. She knelt on the floor in front of where Annie was, and let her new fiancee slip the silver band with two small stones: one diamond and one purple sapphire.
Paige plucked the ring box out of Annie’s hand and placed the ring in her palm into the slot. Then she turned it around to the love of her life, who didn’t even glance down at it.
“Annie Herald. You are my absolute most favorite person on this earth. I love you more that I can even understand. Will you marry me?”
“Yes!” Annie whispered, letting Paige slide her own new ring on. It was gold with a modest diamond bookended between two unique freshwater pearls, one on each side.
She leaned in to kiss her fiancee on the coat closet floor. The saltiness of their tears only made the moment more memorable.
Paige pulled away too soon to comment on the irony of them proposing in a closet.
“Just shut up and kiss me,” Annie responded, but she laughed too.

I like how Violet is so used to having dramatic ass children that Francesca marrying with no drama was too odd to her lmao. And thinking about how her story will unfold is actually kinda hilarious because it's gonna be like:
Violet: Well, that's it. John is a very good man and Francesca is comfortable and happy with her choice and if this is what she truly wants, it's all that matters💜
Violet: Also, it's kinda refreshing to finally have a normal child that doesn't do any dramatic or scandalous shit.
Francesca a few seasons later after her husband passes: *fucks and falls in love with her husband's cousin -who is a woman-*
Violet:
Violet: Honestly, I should've seen this coming, none of my children will actually ever be normal.

honestly one of the most disgusting things ppl can do is weaponize the various atrocities occurring around the world to "gotcha" people online and win The Morality Game.
Especially if the ppl you're going after are part of those targeted.
