I hear inconveniently well — inherited that from my father, who used to catch me reading under my covers as a child from the other side of the house. I carry earplugs just about everywhere nowadays. Don’t know if things have gotten louder or I’ve gotten more sensitive, but having them in movie theatres makes the sound levels tolerable instead of occasionally deafening, and even in live theatre they’ve been helpful. For the longest time it was a pair of cheap tethered ones I’d picked up for the one time I went shooting, but I snagged a pair of Loops for on sale and those have been terrific — they don’t do *too* much, and I can easily pop them in and out depending on how things are amplified. Granted, I’ve never done a live rock concert (in part because I know the sound would overwhelm me), but on the flip side this may be in part how I’ve gotten to my mid-40s and still find this a problem.

(Side note: check your headphone volume too. I remember a job where I could hear someone else’s music through my own headphones, and I pretty much guarantee you their ears have been blown out by now.)

Like tim is completely seeing his friends half way across the battlefield and screaming some stupid song to get cassie's attention, suddenly she's picking him up and throwing him into a robot that he breaks w his bo staff Leaving their respective families looking so confused as he jumps off and has a few lines of in-jokes with her.

this does not stop until every single one of them are grouped together, all of them chanting a song together while they're literally sweeping their section of the field. No one has seen any of them smile that big in weeks.

a while back i decided to do the Fried Chicken Mayo meme with Linked Universe characters

i never actually finished it but i did get pretty far, so have some of these wip pieces

I have a network drive at home, and with a cloud server, I can play all the music I own from anywhere in the world as long as it’s behaving and I can get in. Slowly trying to track down stuff I’ve got on Spotify but not elsewhere, but I have music on that drive that I’ve been collecting since the 1990s — including stuff I transferred off cassette tapes that are even older and no longer are in print. Adding DRM-free audio in there? Absolute win.

(And go looking for that out of print stuff! I love old filk, and some of it is getting remastered and re-released, and it makes me so happy when I see it.)

Physical media is really awesome but please don’t discount sites like Bandcamp where you can buy DRM-free digital media. Buying raw media files lets you:

- Store a collection of millions of songs on a single hard drive (or burn them to CDs yourself!)

- Directly support artists, even those without the time/clout/resources to sell physical media

- With 20 minutes of effort, share your media library with anyone, anywhere, as much as you want.

Giant publishing companies are trying *really hard* to convince everyone that digital media is synonymous with you-don’t-own-shit streaming services, eternal subscription fees, and locked-down snoopscope video players. But there’s a reason so many artists sell their works online without those catches. Go support them!
