For the WIP ask game!
There are so many intriguing choices! You're pretty good at coming up with fun and catchy titles!
I think I'll pick Killer Frequency
Hi, Wolf! Haha! I just can't help myself when it comes to new fic ideas, if only I had that kind of drive to actually finish them aa! Thanks, making the title for a fic is one of the best parts!
Alrighty, well, Killer Frequency is an idea of mine that came from a game I really enjoy, of the same name. The premise of that game is that a radio show host in a small town is the only source of help to call when a serial killer goes on the loose, and it's up to him to save the town and himself before it's too late. I went bouncing up and down the walls for that game, so I figured, I should combine this with my other hyper-fixation! Billy already is a radio show host and constantly has people trying to kill him, this is a perfect fit!
For my fic, the plot surrounds Billy Batson investigating a serial killer cold case with the help of the Fawcett News team (Sterling Morris, Helen Fidelity, Whitey Murphey, Joane Jameson, and Cissie Sommerly). Billy and Cissie aren't officially helping with the case, but whenever those two are brought into the office, they insist on helping in any way they can. Mr. Morris also couldn't find a babysitter in time.
They figured an old famous case like this would make for a good segment on their radio show, bringing in new and old fans of good journalism stories. They even joked on air that they would "solve the case once and for all" Never once did any of them anticipate one of the viewers calling into the show would be the killer themselves; promising to pay them a visit, real soon.
Danger would become eminent, as Fawcett City goes under a blackout/power outage. All emergency service calls are offline, with no internet, and no lines can get through. Whoever this killer is, or whatever they are, they seem to be rather keen on letting old dogs lie.
With it apparent that a serial killer is on the loose in Fawcett, heading straight to them, the Fawcett news team and Billy have to figure out the culprit and save the lives of the Fawcett people and theirs, before it's too late...
It's a bit of a mess, but it's a favorite of mine! I'm really excited to finish this one and ramble on more about it. Please, if you want to know more, let me know. I will not shut up about it!!

Also, from one campus radio station volunteer to all the other ones, exceptionally braver than me, putting themselves on the frontlines, broadcasting straight from the protests, getting themselves barricaded into their broadcasting booths overnight and continuing to be the only people bringing you live and on-the-ground coverage of the protests, I love you all.
CKUT, having covered the die-ins, coming live from the protests grounds at McGill, you have all my strength and love.
CJLO, for righting the disappointment we all felt in Concordia after earlier this year, thank you for your coverage of the Concordia protests, and supporting CKUT's coverage in Montreal.
WKCR, bravest of them all, putting themselves on the frontlines and bringing extraordinary coverage from Columbia. You are true journalists.

They're the future of journalism.
(A note about why some of these posts are coming from '[station]music' accounts: Meta, in retaliation to a demand from the Canadian govt to pay royalties for using news on their site (Bill C-18), decided to ban all news for Canadian accounts on IG and FB altogether. Of course, this did not touch commercial radio stations that simply play the same 5 songs over and over their breakfast shows, but every single campus radio station is now blocked in Canada, completely killing their reach especially to a younger, student audience. Many have made new accounts to continue posting about the non-news shows on air. There's never been a more important time to directly go to their websites for updates, and hell why not, throw them some donations if you can. They're the ones doing the good work in this time of need!)

Raechel Donahue photographed by Baron Wolman, November 1968
When ‘Groupies and Other Girls’ was first published in Rolling Stone Magazine in February 1969, San Francisco teenager Raechel was featured under her birth name ‘Rachel Hamilton.’ While most probably assume Raechel is another obscure groupie from the infamous issue, she’s actually a local California celebrity. Her more common name comes from her husband, legendary radio DJ and concert promoter Tom Donahue, who she was married to from 1969 until his death in 1975. Through Tom, Raechel began her own radio career working as a DJ at KSAN, KMET, KROQ, KIIS FM and Sirius, as well as having gigs as a VJ and TV reporter on CMC, CNN and PBS. She also spent years providing ADR voiceover work for various films, series and commercials, and has even written her own travel and cooking books. These days she helps produce independent documentaries and is based in Palm Springs, CA.

It just occurred to me that The Frosty Fair Folk Festival is probably meant to be a 1:1 reference to The Rainbow Gathering.
Moves around every year, very hippy dippy. The only thing not like it is the emo concert.
My grandpa has been to Rainbow and I was gonna go a few years ago when it was local but I was too busy, so I don't know for sure, but sounds very similar based on his description.

spider-man (to get your attention)
so i was sitting here doing my makeup and thinking about Officer Morale and Uncle Aaron and all that good stuff (spoilers for both movies ahead I think)
and i was thinking, how was there not some big scandal about The Prowler dying and being discovered to be the brother of Good Cop Officer Morales, soon to be captain???
weak theory 1: officer morales managed to keep on the down low that his dead brother was wearing the prowler suit and either in good faith or with money managed to have his fellow officers and the coroner not say anything.
weak theory 2: the prowler was SO GOOD at his job that nobody ever saw him and so when he died and his suit was found, nobody was concerned because nobody knew.
realistic theory: plot armor
anyway

the only true crime podcasts i think are ethical
it's a short list. as an attorney with a few years (not many) experience in criminal defense, as well as being a long-term abolitionist, i have extremely high standards when it comes to true crime podcasts and i will absolutely talk shit about a lot of the really popular, well known ones for being exploitative and disgusting. however, these are the ones that i personally value, and would recommend, despite my general revulsion of the true crime industry in general, precisely because of their ethical treatment of the topics involved. (you'll notice most of these are run/written by investigative journalists who work for or formerly worked for public radio; this is not a coincidence.)
someone knows something. this specific podcast can waver sometimes but its centering of victims and survivors over the police narrative is something i value deeply. each season is focused around an unsolved case, often with the podcasting team re-investigating the case and uncovering new leads while analyzing why the police have failed up until their coverage.
bear brook. a podcast about three murder victims, a woman and two children, who were found in barrels in a new hampshire park. absolutely incredible investigation work, and highly respectful of victims and survivors the whole way through.
missing and murdered: finding cleo. both seasons of this show are excellent. stories about mmiwg2s by connie walker, a cree journalist. the first season is about an unsolved murder; the second season is about a child missing after the sixties scoop.
accused. another investigative journalism podcast where each season is focused around an unsolved murder.
undisclosed. unfortunately this podcast is not producing new episodes anytime soon to my knowledge, but each season is an in depth examination of a wrongful conviction by three attorneys who specialize in that practice. one of those attorneys is rabia chaudry, who is intimately involved in the adnan syed case.
finally. the big one. the Forever Favorite:
in the dark is a podcast that has released such important stories that they've literally pushed a case up to the supreme court. i have never heard any true crime podcast that has been so thorough in its research; careful in its analysis; and been so respectful of survivors.

had a dream that the process of giving birth involved a soul leaving a dead person to inhabit an infant, and that the periods of unusually heavy rainfall caused by climate change were causing a lot of concern because if the soil corpses were buried in was too wet, souls had a tendency to just continue chilling with their former bodies instead of leaving to find new ones.
there was also some debate as to whether it was therefore more ethical to encourage or mandate cremations, as there was also a known tendency for souls to gravitate to cremains kept in the homes of their former loved ones, and many also considered this suggestion a diversion from the larger metaphysical problems of anthropogenic climate change.
in the dream this was a mundane enough concern that i was listening to an NPR podcast about it.

Charles Osgood in the WCBS Radio studio in New York in 1967. Radio was his passion, so much so that he closed his TV broadcasts by saying, “See you on the radio.”CBS, via Getty Images
Mr. Osgood went to Fordham University, where, he later said, he spent more time at the campus radio station than in class. His first job after he graduated in 1954, with a degree in economics, was as a radio announcer at a classical-music station, WGMS in Washington, D.C. (the call letters stood for “Washington’s good music station”). Realizing that he might be drafted, he applied to be the announcer for the U.S. Army Band at Fort Myer, in Arlington, Va., and got the job, which he held from 1955 to 1958.
He briefly broadcast to an audience of one. After President Dwight D. Eisenhower had a heart attack in 1955, Mr. Osgood was recruited to be the president’s personal disc jockey. “I was put into a studio with a stack of records that had all been chosen as his favorites,” he said, “and I spent most of the day playing records for Eisenhower.”
