I’m feeling inspired by @collabwithmyself’s Ace Attorney fusion AU and @ghostryuunosuke’s take on Great Ace Attorney to make something using my love of crossovers.

So I have five fusions cooked up, for the Resonance au and I’m figuring out the specifics for designs but I have them named after mythological figures.

Metatron Edgewright- fusion of Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth, I am an enjoyer of the ship but I also think they’d fuse for their strong friendship. I also see them as the wearer of purple

Eros G. Justice- fusion of Apollo Justice and Klavier Gavin, another I just like the dynamic (ship or not)

Yuki-Onna Cykehara- fusion of Athena Cykes and Shuichi Saihara, here comes the crossover fusions. This is a silly one that I think would be supportive of the other.

Tsukiyomi Kokohodo- A half ghost fusion of Ryunosuke Naruhodo and Yuma Kokohead. I just think they’d be cool, and this fusion does require partial possession.

Icarus Hinaegi- the fusion of the ultimate hope; Makoto Naegi and the mysterious Hajime Hinata. All I know for this one is that they have a lot of issues and silliness.

Each of these fusions have emblems related to the figure too: Metatron has two diamonds overlayed to represent the cube, Eros has the heart, Yuki has a snowflake, Tsukiyomi has a moon and Icarus has the sun.

Oh stars in reply to my previous post, I am now curious about personality and even music motifs that could work for those fusions. You gave me some incredible mental images for these silly bois.

Music man, at your service! I've given instrument motifs to Rain Code's cast before, so I'm excited to add on to the pile once again! Much like my Rain Code list, I'll link to random examples I found of the instruments to showcase them. I'll touch on personality and songs for each fusion as well!

Metatron - Instrument motifs are the 808 drum from Phoenix (he's just got that funky n fun modern sound to him, trust me on the vibe check) and the trumpet from Edgeworth (his character theme made this an easy decision). Since we're combining a former art major and a pompous prosecutor who's secretly a huge nerd, you bet Metatron dons the artsy and expressive side from both of them. He likes using big, complex words as often as possible, even if it means he ends up using them in the wrong context at times. A song for him would be Audacious by Franz Ferdinand (with the bonus of the lead singer Alex Kapranos being what I imagine Metatron's voice could sound like).

Eros - Instrument motifs are the acoustic guitar from Apollo (he inherits the motif from his dad for extra sadness) and the electric guitar from Klavier (no surprises here). He's loud and proud, utilizing his own Chords Of Steel as he sings his heart out whenever his emotions spike in intensity. However, he's also very clingy and will make any excuse to not be out on his own, even if it means hanging around bad company. A song for him would be Blitzkrieg Bop by Ramones, as it fits with his 'HEY PAY ATTENTION AND DANCE WITH ME' energy.

Yuki - Instrument motifs are the electric violin from Athena (her Spirit Of Justice objection theme sold me on this) and the piano from Shuichi (he and Kaede had a duet piano motif in my eyes). Yuki is the type who runs head-first into danger but soon after is wishing they could back out while they're already in the thick of it. They're also very empathetic; if no one's around for them, they'll be around for others. Highly Emotional People by Marina is a fitting song for them in this regard.

Tsukiyomi - Instrument motifs are the taiko drum from Ryunosuke (the Naruhodo/Wright family tree comprises of different types of percussion I know it in my heart n soul) and the handpan from Yuma (same as usual from my Rain Code list). Tsukiyomi is curious about anything and everything, always on a quest to learn all he can about the world. He may appear pitiful, but that's just a ruse to slip away from conflicts and get out of sight. My song choice for him is Peach by Future Islands because while it is my go-to song for protagonists going against all odds, it fits a fusion of these two even better.

Icarus - Instrument motifs are tambourine from Makoto (fits his 'simplistic but not to be underestimated' vibe) and the bass synth from Hajime (powerful presence even under layers of other instruments). Icarus struggles with a savior complex, believing he is the symbol of hope. Despite his urge to help as many people as possible, he doesn't want to draw too much attention to himself. A song for him would be Every Little Thing I Say I Do by Dayglow.

Also might as well explain why I like them: Draconic makes some pretty good fics (at least in my eyes) and their also just really kind from my experience, not much else really.

3 Lenses for Watching BvS

1. Gothic cautionary folktale

Our three main characters (Bruce, Clark, and Lex) form a triad reminiscent of Paradise Lost. Our God figure (Superman) must contend with the responsibility he shoulders and the expectations of others. The Devil figure (Batman) diametrically opposes him in theme, method, and stance, and consigns himself to taking down the God. And Lex fashions himself as the Man figure, who must use the Devil to conquer God and claim the world for himself. What's fitting is that all three see themselves as the heroes of the story (though it's important to note that none of them see themselves as good). Bruce and Lex switch roles in the final act because Bruce acknowledges Clark's humanity.

The haunting architecture, cool color scheme, smoky and damp scenes, and fusions of magic and science underscore this as a folktale by narrowing our focus almost claustrophobically on these characters and their interactions. The moral seems to be that pride and fear will lead to our downfall.

2. Women at the center

Both the meta text and the context center women, despite Superman and Batman often being coded as hypermasculine and thus presented almost exclusively for the male gaze. This film, however, presents its leads sensually, which caters traditionally to the female gaze. We see romance between Clark and Lois (not sex), we see soft contours when Bruce trains (not hard lines), we see gentle, consensual touches when Bruce dances with Diana (not grabbing). (Keep in mind that this is all heteronormative because we're talking in binaries.)

Within the text, the female characters are also the ones who further the plot. Lois uncovers the plot to frame Superman. At the end, she's the one who knows exactly where the kryptonite spear is (because she tossed it in the water). Diana foils Bruce's attempt to steal Lex's files, and in the end helps defeat Doomsday. And Martha (though not consensually) is the entire reason Superman and Batman come to a truce. Even Senator Finch provides a voice of reason that has to be snuffed out for Lex to proceed with his plans. (And I have to point out that Holly Hunt plays Senator Finch, who advocates for oversight of Superman's activities but rejects Lex's plans to research and use kryptonite. She also plays Elastigirl/Helen Par in The Incredibles, which is largely about supers having to go into hiding because they are liabilities, with the villain trying to commoditize superpowers to make everyone super. Though the sequel hadn't come out when BvS was released, it is about supers coming back in a more regulated way but then corporate greed takes over.)

3. A retelling of Gilgamesh and Enkidu

I got this idea from someone else's fanfic, and as soon as I remember the name of it I'll link it and the author. I provide specific quotes from the epic with gifs from BvS and Justice League here, but the long and short of it is that the gods created Gilgamesh to be this perfect being and ruler of men; then, because he was a menace, created Enkidu to be his friend/lover and rival. They're both excited when they hear about each other and fight when they first meet. Gilgamesh defeats Enkidu and wins his friendship and respect, and together they become unstoppable.

My raw notes are below the cut and go into more depth but are way less organized.

Modern gothic themes: location, dark/magic artifact, doppelganger/duality, deal with the devil, science used for evil

Other themes: Paradise Lost paradigm (God/human/devil), duality of man, defining "natural"

God/Devil:

this duality is set up in the juxtaposition of how Kahini describes Superman and the trafficking victims describe Batman. Kahini describes the sky cracking/opening and fire raining down (godlike imagery) and asks how he (Superman) decides whose lives matter. One of the victims says that a devil (Batman) has saved them and still lingers in the area, and shows that they're afraid to leave.

Later, it's revealed that Batman brands criminals which makes them targets by other criminals, and one of Kahini's neighbors says that Batman is angrier and meaner now.

Batman asks Supes if he bleeds (because if it bleeds it can die).

God/Man:

Lex positions himself as the icon of man and resolves to defeat Superman the god through wit and invention. He carefully maneuvers all the pieces in play to have his way, eventually causing Batman and Superman to fight, which is a win/win scenario for him. As he says, God this bends to his will. However, by creating Doomsday with a literal blood sacrifice (precursor to Superboy????) he makes a deal with the devil and thus becomes the devil character in this paradigm.

In Bruce's recognition of Clark's humanity, he reclaims the role of the man figure.

Man/Devil and the duality of man:

Bruce has to wrestle with his own demons to see clearly. He is aligned with Lex Luthor so much throughout the majority of the film that Lex eventually falls back to let Batman kill Supes for him. Also, Bruce's response to seeing Wallace get himself and several other people killed trying to hurt Superman in his own grief and rage is to double down, rather than take it as the cautionary tale it is.

Alfred warns him in the beginning that anger and helplessness will breed cruelty in good men, and Bruce is haunted by nightmares.

He keeps Jason's suit just outside his changing room as a constant reminder of what his mission has cost.

He claims that killing Superman will be the only thing in his life that matters, not, as Alfred points out, "20 years of fighting criminals," indicating he's lost faith.

Interesting stuff:

Lex knows who Superman and Batman are from the very beginning, as indicated by him inviting them both to the gala, and holds those cards very close to his chest until the very end of the film. He clearly wanted them to meet (and jokes that Bruce shouldn't fight Clark and suggests he and Bruce can work together on the future).

At the gala, when Clark asks Bruce about his thoughts on Batman operating outside the law, Bruce doesn't defend Batman. Instead, he uses a straw man argument that Superman is just as bad.

If Lois hadn't thrown the spear into the water, nobody would have known where it was. It likely would have been buried under rubble.

Batman and Superman seem to just resign themselves to being bad. Bruce doesn't argue for his goodness or seem to consider himself worth much; Clark seeks solace after being criticized for all the collateral damage and eschews Superman as an idealistic remnant of his father. Meanwhile Lois actually tries to absolve herself through action, namely investigating LexCorp.

A new Robin???, there's an insinuation that Batman has lost a Robin and if they're following the Beyond theme of having Tim become Joker then we could see either Terry or Damian; otherwise if it's Jason who died maybe we'll get Tim.

Major Farris exists, so Green Lantern (Hal Jordan specifically) may be coming.

We have 6 Justice League members – seventh could be GL or Manhunter????

[Alterna Statues] An idea I've had for a few days!

What are they?

Why do they exist?

These 'statues' are not really statues, technically they are the remains of a human, covered/replaced by the liquid crystals from the fake sky! Like fossils! But...more ominous.

The statues were created as a result of the failed rocket launch that ended most life in Alterna!

As we know, the energy from the rocket boosters overloaded the crystals causing a massive cave in and debris to rain down upon humanity.

The crystals themselves serve as a way to record and/or display human desires and memories(?).

So, in this idea, during the tragedy, crystals that fell onto people would sort of flash freeze them and envelope their entire bodies. Then, the liquid would solidify and absorb the person's memories, desires, personality, etc.

This whole process is the reason as to why EVERY single one of the currently found statues seems to be frozen in time, with a mortified expression in their faces, as if running away from their end. It effectively "kills" the person, but at the same time doesn't.

The body is dead but everything that made the person, themselves, that made them human, are all recorded in the crystals. The statues 'soul' is alive, but they aren't.

That person isn't a person anymore, they are the crystals resembling what they once were, unmoving, unable to express emotions.

It is unknown whether or not the effects can be reversed. Agent Neo 3.5, codenamed L1, an expert in the preservation of the mind/ anything human, HEAVILY PROHIBITS touching the statues with bare skin.

Current hypothesis for what might happen in this case are:

-The one that touched it will have everything the statue recorded transferred into their brain, most likely killing them from the overload of information in the process.

-Everything will transfer to the new host of the information, but it will most definitely cause some sort of identity crisis (or more) as the subject is unable to decide who they are due to having 2 extremely detailed and real lives in their brain. They would be more like 2 people in one body, fighting for control, an unperfect fusion.

-Crystals will spread immediately upon contact, flash freezing the subject too, and condemning them to live out eternity together with all the other statues.

Further analysis from the previously mentioned L1, proposes the possibility of transferring the information onto a digital medium. If such is true, then it might be possible to create a new body from DNA samples and dump all the information into it, as had already been done with her, reviving whoever the statues were.

Or perhaps not.

Research into this phenomena is still ongoing, and the possibility of giving whoever these eternal monoliths of sadness and despair were, a second chance at life, is still low.

Who knows how many still sit inside their dome shaped cage, forced to never be able to see the blue sky, buried beneath tones of debris and water? Hundreds? Thousands?

We do not know.

All that we do know is that our Agents, along with some outside help from a certain octoling engineer/idol are doing their utmost to research this phenomena and crack the code to it's inner workings.

More updates on said research will be given out.... whenever I want to write.

Nighty Night

A fusion of two non-characters with no lines, next to no mention, and a bizarre combination power. Nighty Night is Bonesaw's surgical combination of deceased founding S9 member Nyx and alive at the time closing S9 member Night Hag. I guess Bonesaw forgot Night Hag was alive cos she still cloned her anyway. This nerd surviving Worm to never come up in Ward is funny to me. Every other surviving 9 member is in that thing. Anyway, since nobody is likely to ask Wildbow about them (myself included, I like that there's places in the margins where people can make doodles and headcanons) here's some fanfic ideas 1) Nyx and Night Hag can fuse and unfuse. Night Hag's power is to reform herself after death. Does this reform Nighty Night after she dies? Does this reform Night Hag and Nyx separately if Nighty Night dies? How does Bonesaw's surgery even hold up against a breaker state? Does Nighty Night reform with or without any modifications Bonesaw made like with Damsel?

2) Night Hag has access to more bodies at a time. Night Hag's power is to reform herself after death and there were upwards of 9 of her at the end of Worm. Even if Nighty Night can't fully respawn her other selves from Nighty Night, maybe she can reform her dead selves and partial limbs from her possessed terrain, granting her access to a bloody lot of extra parts.

3) Nix wanted to be in Ward but Nighty Night got to her first.

4) Bonesaw, Damsel, and the Number Man clones never mention Nighty Night cos they forgot she was alive, the same way Bonesaw forgot Night Hag was alive and cloned her between 8 and 9 times. Its possible Bonesaw even lost track of which one was the real Night Hag and ended up using the original to make Nighty Night. 5) Bonesaw, Damsel, Swansong, Spawner, Number Man, and the Harbinger squad know who Nighty Night is and just don't care for them at all. 6) Night Hag's shard is eating Nyx's a little more every day, infecting it like Night Hag infects the environment. 7) Nighty Night gets along with themself. Spawner and Murder Rat both were two conflicting mashups. I think it'd be funny if Bonesaw was trying to go for something like that or an interesting power mashup and just ended up making a more rounded and balanced individual than either was on their own. 8) Nighty Night is double trans. Fellas is it trans coded to stay in a breaker state all the time when that breaker state is just a goth lady? Night Hag is prime trans headcanon material and Nyx is a C53, and thanks to Sveta and Gregor we know that all C53s are allegories for being a trans with a disability. Anyway I think it'd be funny if they were both headed in the other direction and their fusion ended up happily squatting in the middle. 9) Nighty Night retired and lives at home with themself, sipping tea and watching the rain pour down on the windowsill on a cold night, sometimes even leaving the patio door open a crack to better hear the pitter patter.

Piemon is voiced by Chikao Ohtsuka, a prolifc VA who was the go to Japanese voice for Dr. Eggman, as well as voicing Tao Pai Pai, Xehanort, and Hitler (In the movie Downfall). In English he's derek Stephen Prince, who previously plated Demi-Devimon and would have major roles in Adventure 02, Tamers, Frontier, and Fusion. He's got many major roles outside of Digimon but for series you follow, he's Kokichi and Fuyuhiko from Danganronpa, and Servan in Rain Code

Iterators:

Watches Falling Droplets: Lurien, he’s a late gen iterator and was built in an area that already had immense rainfall. His city has two layers, one on top of his can like a normal iterator and one at ground level. The ground level one is the city of tears and would make up the vast amount of areas if he was in game. He’s absolutely in love with Beyond the Pale Horizon/Under Palest Watch. He’ll never act on it, and by the time he works up the courage it’ll be too late. Puppet colors are navy blue, black, and pale white.

Optimal Data Collection: Monomon, she and Lurien are neighbors. She was built in an area that experienced intense acid rains, hence all of her systems being largely acidproof and generally more robust than other late gen iterators. The lands around her are sparsely populated and biologically limited. Oomas are almost certainly her purposed organisms. Likes storing data in unique ways, has found a way to make use of her acid for this. puppet colors are navy blue, acid green, and bronze.

Purposed Organisms:

The Scholar: Quirrel. He’s a slugcat who has been modified extensively to contain some of Optimals higher level codes and information in his nervous system. Has a built in defense system in the form of a mask her wears that was made by her. He is also naturally acidproof like all slug cats from her area. His mission is generally to gather interesting data she otherwise couldn’t, but recently he’s been sent as an envoy to Under Palest Watch. He’s a light gray color with a white underbelly and green markings down his back. He also has cute little antennas.

Lumen: Luriens Buttler: they are a scavenger Droplets has modified to act as a general repair-person for his can. They’re also his closest confidant. Has recently convinced Droplets that scavengers should be allowed in the city of tears. This has started a unified project from both of them to uplift the local scavenger population. So far it seems to be going well. Lumen only suggested this because they fear Droplets will be lonely after they die. They’re a burgundy color with a pale mask Droplets gave them.

You had me at fusions! I'm no character designer, but I'd be more than happy to try my hand at thinking of design elements that link to their components' individual personalities and how they mesh together!

For Metatron, a cravat tucked into a purple suit would fit him nicely. Mixes Phoenix's standard tie and Edgeworth's jabot into something a little more fancy but not as flaunting; a great balance to represent their stable and loving fusion. For hair, this fusion could have a little cardinal or blue jay-styled cowlick, just a small portion of hair that flicks up along the back of the scalp. Gotta keep that bird theming from Phoenix in here while acknowledging Edgeworth's own teeny lil hair flicks.

For Eros, I imagine their fusion would be a little more on the disorderly side since they do tend to clash individually at times. But one of the ways I can really see their fusion shine is by incorporating the fact that music is a core part of both identities. Even if Apollo never got to experience a life filled with music because of his dad's death and mom's disappearance when he was just a baby, Klavier is the one who opens him up to that world he never got to experience. I think a punk rock aesthetic would go perfectly with this fusion, representing their shared goal of fighting against the dark age of the law.

Yuki is definitely a combination of their component's growing confidence in themselves and their work. Though they still have some anxieties remaining, so I think a color palette consisting of Athena's bright yellow and Shuichi's muted dark blue would compliment their bravery and lasting uncertainties. I'd love if they wore a GYAXA jacket over their shoulders to represent the connection they have to their friends and family being closely tied to space, which could've rubbed off on the fusion.

Tsukiyomi is definitely a super fun fusion to think about! While it may be more akin to a possession since Ryunosuke is a ghost in your scenario, I still think they'd balance out well in appearance since I'm a believer that ghosts still carry the identities of their mortal selves, which includes how they look. They'd definitely fuse over their shared motivation for discovery, not just in the truth, but learning more about foreign places and people! It'd be cool if their cloaks were combined by making the fusion's cloak long and wispy, practically floating to really hammer in that ghostly vibe.

Icarus is double the anime protagonist, so double the ahoges! It would be fun if their fusion had that bright white-gold hair color like 'Ultimate Hope' Hajime had. Other than that, Icarus would still probably be mistaken for just a regular student, wearing standard clothes, but he still has an air about him that makes him stand out from the crowd regardless.

For those years, I would spend all day watching streams from said friends playing games for my birthday entertainment. Over a decade ago, however, when asked what I’d like to see I kinda just went “Why don’t you just beat some games?” and so the festivities truly began.
