Heya hi hello :3

I came across UTB a few months ago (easily one of my fav works on ao3 by far), and I've been reading A stain that won't dissolve as well !

I really want to read your other works, but wow there's alot, and I genuinely don't know where to start? I'm not sure which works are like stand alones universes like utb, and which ones might follow a plot like fae tales? Ao3 still confuses me to this day 😕. Some guidance on which works to start with and where to go from there would be great! There's so much it's hard to work it out

Hi anon!

There's two ways you can go about this.

The first is that AO3 can organise things by series (if you look underneath the tags on my works, you'll often see a Series link which will show the works in reading order for most series and chronological order for the random collections).

Every author that writes a series on AO3 also automatically has a series page where you can see everything organised.

The series page for the Fae Tales canon is here. That's the reading order! You can even see in the series description that I've written down the order as well.

There's extras for the Fae Tales canon, like side stories etc. and that series page is here.

Once you learn how to navigate AO3 it becomes a lot easier, because these things are universal. Authors can rearrange stories so they don't just have to be in order of chronology, they can also be in reading order, which is what I've done. Underline the Black has its own series page too, Underline the Rainbow!

The other way you can do things is to go to the Fae Tales Wiki, which shows my recommended reading order, the chronological world order (i.e. the order in which all the events take place), and then the Wiki suggested reading order!

If a series says 'AU' on it - like it's in the Fae Tales AU series, it's generally intended to either be a standalone, or it's got other stories connected to it but only within that world, like the Spoils series. You don't need to have read any of the canon to have read any of the AUs, which either have their own series pages (because that's how separate they are to the canon lol), or are found in the Fae Tales AU series.

But yeah the Series page is a really good bible to find things quickly. I use it myself when I need to find my own collections of works on AO3!

at this rate ima beat this jack frost all black and blue with how much trouble it is to write something im happy with. sighs. anyway, i got some asks to answer! some of them got a tad too long so its all under the cut!

Beast folk idea I have! How about a male kangaroo that is of course some type of famous professional athlete (aside from boxing, he could be a martial artist, sprinter, etc.) that has been a play boy all his life (based off of how male kangaroos flex their muscles in real life to females). He never I guess had any “moment” in his life with any females, where he felt right actually wanting to be with them and love them whole heartedly (whether beastfolk of his own species or those not). So then one day someone he knows (close friend or maybe a work professional) takes him to an exclusive private party where the beastfolk have “rented” some humans to do it with. (I don’t know lore wise how legal this is, if at all, but it happened some how). I guess it’s so private because some of the guests there are secret human efers, those in denial, or just haven’t found the “right human” yet and would like some hands on sampling before purchasing them. And so, that’s how the kangaroo meets us his adorable darling. And I’d really like this to be very sweet and fluffy (before becoming mouth watering smutty of course), with kangaroo just having a “zing!” moment with us. We were the female he needed to feel complete in regards to love, and he plans to take GREAT care of us. (It’d also be funny to show how overprotective he is of reader from the start, by him unhesitatingly outbidding some of the other party guests who’ve also taken interest in reader). Of course it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, as reader has trust/abandonment/attachment issues. So finding out that her new kangaroo owner is (was) a MASSIVE play boy isn’t helping her fears. Now it’s up to kangaroo to do damage control, learn how to be a much better beast man, and show his sole love/devotion to reader. Making sure she’ll never question his love/loyalty to her ever again! He wants to make her the envy of his past flings, other beastmen, and just everybody really, since she’s the center of his universe. (Kangaroo also wants to really make her his permanently by getting her knocked up/wifey too). I don’t know if you’d like this idea/concept, but I thought it’d be very cute. I just love the trope of a Casanova finding their soul mate, and having to fix all the damage they’ve caused themselves by their own consequences. Cause it really is a self conflict, and great for character growth arcs. (I also just wanna be spoiled/doted on endlessly by a man who’s capable to throw hands literally and figuratively 24/7 to protect me). Thanks 🪭 —anonymous

hmmm, a bit -too- overdetailed for me to write this one since i like some breathing room to apply my own spins. tbf, it sounds like you already got it started! all you needed to do is to write it~if you write this one, link me! i wouldn't mind reading it and supporting fellow writers <3

while it is -my- au, i especially love seeing what it inspired in others and see their interpretations of it! while the worldbuilding remains mine (STILL chewing on starting a book/series on it someday, but the thought of publishing anything is scary af), it's literally just (semi-realistic) furries mingling with humans with extra history/political dramas included.

so, as long as you keep your worldbuilding somewhat different and source the inspiration to me, have at it. write your own beastfolk world!

anyway, on the finer details (for my AU anyway), as long as those humans are 'beastfolk-owned' and not green card/independent humans, they're essentially viewed as property to do whatever with albeit with responsibilities to ensure their well-being. as long as they're fed and have open access to water, have sufficient shelters, are clean, and their health is regularly checked, their owners can do whatever they want, really. the court won't interfere as long as the humans are safe and healthy—and mind you, the beastfolks are very slow on the uptake about the mental health, less so with their humans'.

that said, this can also depend greatly on what region they're in. some areas have far more human rights than others, being more liberal, while others may be more conservative and views humans as, well, livestock, essentially. humans in these places sometimes have the same rights as actual animals (if they're lucky). that said, the more rural it is, the fewer rights the human pets have.

of course, money DOES talk too.

so, you can just easily say that your characters are either in one of those conservative regions—or have shady connections and/or have an insane amount of money where the laws would just look the other way. just don't make it public and you're good to go, pretty much.

auctions would probably be a common sight in certain black markets, depending on where you are and when you are on the timeline. the zoo breakout to the early post zoo eras sees many of those events. on the most parts in the later era, those auctions are then transformed into whole new events entirely (aka, sports), which is the logical next step since they used to be the aftermath for when the bidding was ending in an outright war between several bidders and was used to solve the issue. instead of bidding, you'd complete for the human you wanted (i'm not clear at how the human would end up there yet since i don't feel any reputable shelter would align with those events for the 'adoption war' or that the adoption is the only way. still debating on this--in any case, the darling ends up there when there are more than two beastfolks fighting over them) and prove your worth while treating the unfortunate human like a rat bait (see: the maze headcanon i wrote a while ago—and am planning to write a whole piece of it to properly thank a very kind supporter when i'm able. some details had been changed since then, but it mostly still hold up).

in a lot of ways, the auctions were rather kinder to the humans as they wouldn't be put in outright danger right then. :/ the (new) spectator sports, such as the maze race, exploits multiple legal loopholes, since they involve no money (not outright anyway) as the auctions were (publicly) banned for "unregulated monetary transactions and the unpredictability of bid outcomes".

if anything, a good amount of these sports are...purely for "adult entertainment", if you get what i'm implying. ahem. the laws are actually pretty behind regarding the 'adult content/sports', especially with the open access of internet around then on that timeline. the large part of that had to do with encouraging the beastfolks to procreate with the humans though, so any form of sex between both races are simply not regulated outside the acceptable age range and limitations on physical violence/abuse and this includes the "entertainment" aspect.

it's fucked, but that's how they gets away with such things.. i'm rambling, but this can be a good alternative for you to think about too, to add on that extra drama flare and to further traumatize the human.

this is a super cute idea though and i sincerely hope you'll expand it yourself if you can! this is a very nice starting point too, if you're not used to writing. as for me, i'm not sure i can write all of this for you unfortunately, since i tend to go TOO long on just one scene and i have multiple ideas i wanna work on as well, aha. but you did give me room to talk the worldbuilding to help expand similar events like your idea so thank you for that. i can most definitely tell you that your poor fella is definitely not an isolated example.

Apparently penguins kidnap other penguins’ children to try and raise as their own. Was watching nature utube vids on this and it’s so sad! The desire to be a parent is so intense for some couples that they’ll take away another couple’s baby! How’d this play into your beast verse? What measures would government and organizations take to help combat this extreme phenomenon? And think about being a human parent and having your Penguin spouse come back with a random baby 💀💀💀 Even worse is if you’re in a Penguin community and have to fight off other penguins casually when you have your baby. On the streets, home break ins, etc. —anonymous

ngl featheredfolk (penguins are flightless but they're still birds and have feathers still so they count as one) is a bunch of odd birds with cultures other beastfolks often struggle to understand, especially with the dramas that often follow. children theft in general with the featheredfolks is complicated and tends to only involves the similar peers to sort it out, because outsiders (humans included, if not one of 'theirs' via being the spouse or the child/ren) would just get frustrated with their fucked logic to the point of being angry about it.

so, no, penguins wouldn't be the only birds that deal with this mannerism, but is the most common one to do so.

that said, they tend to have big enough noggins not to involve anyone who isn't a featheredfolk (and to an extent, wingedfolk), because they're still mostly prey in nature. skittishness towards the predator kind is basically ingrained in their dna.

but that's not to say such incidents never happened though! usually, it only happens when the community is actually quite small, that they have to 'outsource' to another beastfolk. it's a very dangerous thing to do though, since beastfolks are naturally very overprotective of their youngs. in cases where they do succeed with the kidnapping and escapes unscathed, it normally doesn't take long before the one they took the child from to track them down due to using their superior senses.

it's 50/50 on how it may end though and the laws would still side with the victims regardless of the outcome. hopefully, someone else would call the laws first to deal with such matters though and to calm the angry parent/guardian.

that said, i do imagine that the government would get around this annoying instinct by advertising adoptions as another option from the featheredfolk's early age in their school. they'd push it so much that the featheredfolk tends to feel like they were being singled out for it too.

...honestly, i'm not even sure how to answer this one fully. i should treat this as a serious question with a serious answer, but i can't.

the featheredfolks are legit viewed as the clowns of the beastfolk world already because of how...simpleminded most of them can be (not a bad thing!) 😭and now this. the birdbrains....still, i hope this somewhat answers your question(s)...?

Maybe I’m just blind and stupid, but did you touch up on beastfolk courtship rituals for some species? Ex- Birds may decorate, dance, or sing to court another. Hooved/fanged folk may literally fight each other to get rights to begin courtship with x. I’m just so curious to see what animal behaviors transfer to your universe! :) —anonymous

uhhhh, i don't think i really expand on those yet, no! the 'traditional' courtship rituals are more commonplace in the past than the 'modern' era, tbf, if between beastfolk and humans.

if it's just between two (or more) beastfolks, then yeah, 'traditional' courtship rituals are common.

in the present, it's a common understanding that the humans may not always understand their actions, so the beastfolk tends to adapt the best they could for 'the best of both worlds' kind of ritual—sometimes to the extreme mean though (lol).

for example, with the featheredfolks, for being a species with brittle bones, they're rather sturdy so they're often happy just living in a large treehouse and staying steady no matter the weather and season. it's more like an old cabin, with a lot of drafts. but, the thing is, neither (or more, i don't judge those in the poly relationships lol) would care, because the one doing the courting built it just for their love interest—and later built it better together for their upcoming new family members.

but for a featheredfolk genuinely interested in a human, would have to outright learn how to build a modern house—and that is far more complicated than just putting together a log cabin in the tree. they're very adaptive folks though and if they're sincere about the human, they'd go that far to at least attempt to build the foundation single-handedly. thankfully, the bird community is often tight-knit, so others would step in once the basic foundation is done and rally in.

(unlike our irl, everyone in that AU can at least afford some ways to build their own home and not be buried in the debts for the rest of their life. this is mainly because some specific beastfolks having an instinctive needs to build, that the common government would offer to offset some of the costs to abate those instincts from turning destructive.)

in their cases, even if the courting failed, the featheredfolk learned and can actually apply it to their lifeskill/career path/etc. for birdbrains, you'll see a lot of them in the engineering and architecture fields. (funny how that works!)

as you pointed out, yes, hoovedfolk and fangedfolk are more violent with their courting, but that's generally only in the cases where the love interest have more than one (alike) suitor vying for their affection. i'm not really sure how common that is in the more liberal areas tbf, but i do imagine it's a daily thing in the conservative/rural regions since those usually have a lot of, hm, predominant 'single-species' community? sorry, i'm not really sure how to word it.

since strength is what they consider their worth and humans rarely understand the point of physical violence, they'd probably show off what they're capable of instead—from lifting a car to carrying all the groceries at once for the human they're interested in. endurance too, so if the human is into, say, a sport or likes to run, they'd compete to show off just how good they are with either (though, i do like to think they'd carry their human on their back while running five more miles when the human gets tired--just to say, 'look at me! i'm not even tired yet and i'm carrying you!'). unlike the featheredfolks, fangedfolk and hoovedfolks are much milder about their courting.

whiskeredfolks are much more sly, but they like to show off how much they can provide (which is also something fangedfolk likes to do, but the former is often more subtle). usually involving money (and management) and ordering things their human hadn't realized they needed yet. things like that. they really likes to bring home food too, lol. since they can't exactly show off their hunting skills and bring home a bloodied deer carcass, providing is the next best thing with their human love interest.

there's more, but i'll stop here, but their courting rituals for their humans are basically 'modernized', with some species (obviously and hilariously so) trying harder than others.

tbf, parts of the birds' rituals were inspired by that tumblr meme on 'if men were like birds'. can't find that now though.

Question:Revius and Zedrik- What’s family life with them now if you were to have 2 children (1 from each)? Just wondering how dynamics would change, what the children’s personalities would be like, etc. Sea Witch (octo man)- Can we have babies with him? And if we did would it be a multiple pregnancy since female octopuses (I know we are a modified human) technically lay hundreds of eggs. And how would family life be from there out? —anonymous

hm, i can't comment on the childrens personalities (and any other details, really) since that's kinda something i leave to the readers to decide.

honestly, both revius and zedrik would fall deeper in 'love' with their darling for enduring both of those difficult pregnancies, that they're rather clingy to them more so than to each other. though, granted, both knew how capable each other would be so it's more on how 'frail' their darling really is in comparison. zedrik is more openly emotional than revius is though, but revius is certainly more of the nagging type like a strict, doting mom might be. personally, i feel they'd butt heads more often after their children are born, (but never to the point of separating [imo anyway, they'd been together for some times before they decided to...'pursue' the darling]), because of how different their parenting styles were.

let's just say that cerelos' darling has an easier time wrangling with the emperor than their darling did with those two.

otherwise, they're both pretty devoted as fathers. i do imagine their kids would've been confused by their upbringings a bit though due to, again, differing parenting styles. the darling does their best though! but it's kinda hard to raise children double, triple your size lol

as for the sea witch, that's implied! i wanted to let the reader to decide on their own if they're going to have kids with him or not, rather than outright branding 'breeding kink' on the piece. but, yes, there'd be oviposition going on, had you wanted to imagine that storyline.

not sure if i understood you about the multiple pregnancies though, so i'll refrain from answering that one. instead, yes, the darling would probably carry multiple eggs and, well, egg laying. i do imagine the sea witch would've found a way to make that not at all a painful process (probably quite the opposite, tbf).

as for the family life, i'm...not at all sure. i'll leave that for you and other readers to decide. i honestly see the sea witch just enjoying the pregnancy, because to him, his darling is now ruined and marked with his seed (or, eggs). afterward? not sure if he'd enjoy the fatherhood too much, especially with multiple 8-legged kids running about.

nope! he's too human-looking to be a beastfolk--and is too healthy, pretty, and (mostly) sane to be a hybrid. thats why hes not in the beastfolk masterlist.

initially, he's from his own universe, where humans are living in ignorance of the existence of inhuman beings like adoxi, but i've been chewing on the possibly of him being a descendant of my other character, the cursed god. it'd explain why he's looking fairly human yet not (the 6 arms isn't genetically inheritable fyi, since the priest ripped them off from unfortunate souls to replace the ones he lost).

but that's only me chewing on it and isn't 'official' yet, since there are couple details that wouldn't make sense (but is workable). still thinking about it.

First of all, hey there! Hello! Glad you found me, and glad to know you liked Inception. Hard to believe that it’s still drawing so many people in, 14 years on.

Second of all…

Oh baby. Oh man. Not just fic recs, but A/E fic recs? Yesssssssss my time has come.

First, there are a couple of writers whose entire oeuvre you should definitely check out if you haven’t.

Lolahardy, whose Dreamhusbands work is vast and varied, but here are a few of my own favorites (important note: no links because Lola’s fics are currently locked, but they are easily findable if you have an AO3 account, and you should definitely check out all of them, not just the few I mentioned here!):

In Every Universe - the fic that will never die, lol. So many great A/E stories here, but for me, the biggest draw are the other JGL/TH ships contained within. My personal favorite is Forrest/Evelyn, who I almost love even more than A/E at this point. Also, so many tropes and kinks and whatnot. Safe to say, I’m positive you’ll find a lot of different things to enjoy!

Le Mal Du Pays - this one is just lovely. I reread it again for this rec list and boy… still amazing. The chapters set during canon are so good, it’s like watching the movie again, but with the added bonus of actual A/E in the plot, you know?

Love is Strange - A/E by way of Dirty Dancing! I love it when you can enjoy an AU based on a very specific property even without having seen said property. For example, I adore everything about this fic even though I have never watched DD, not even once, lol.

OneWhoSitsWithTurtles, whose A/E work is never anything less than stellar and beautiful, and regularly makes me cry. Also, they have works in other fandoms that are equally worth checking out!

Christmas Without You (Is a Christmas Not Worth Having) - the best. The pinnacle. If ever you (or anyone else, for that matter) were curious about what my favorite A/E fic of all time is? Here’s your answer.

Dream of Me - This one is just beautiful. A simple little somewhat canon-compliant love story. So sugary sweet at times, it runs the risk of being tooth-rotting. But I’m always willing to take that risk.

39 Days to Fall in Love - the survivor AU you didn’t know you were missing. Seriously, it’s so good it might make you want to watch Survivor if you haven’t already, even if you know there’s no Arthur or Eames in it, lol.

Lullaby - Hands down, the saddest A/E fic I have ever read, and certainly in the running for saddest fic period. Seriously, it’s beautiful and worth reading but don’t go in without some tissues.

The Bumblebee and the Flower who Fell in Love - Also very sad, but so very whimsical and sweet besides. A/E works well in seemingly silly setups like this.

And now, for a few more individual recs. Mind you, a lot of my recs are a bit older - I really need to go back and peruse through the ship tag to find new stuff to bookmark - but hey, something something wine metaphors, lol.

End of the Road - this one is so cool. If you like Mad Max Fury Road and ever wondered what it would be like if you combined it with A/E (sort of) and some A/B/O Dynamics, you can’t do better than this.

Quiet Desperation - a lovely little A/E and 00q crossover story! I would read an entire series of this if it existed.

Next Big Thing - A/E as judges on a HGTV reality show. Classic! The exact kind of fairly low stakes drama I can get behind. No spoilers, but my favorite character is Misty Rainbow. For one scene in particular. If you read it, you’ll know exactly which one. Also I wish this show was real.

The Party - heavy subject matter in this one (heed the tags), but getting through the rough stuff makes the eventual fluffier bits almost extra sweet.

Out of Reach - a recent addition to my ranks, but absolutely beautiful. The emotions are so palpable and heartfelt.

And… would it be completely shameless if I included a couple of mine? I don’t like to toot my own horn too much, but since nobody else ever puts me on their reclists, why not, right?

Darling I’m Killed - my somewhat still ongoing Inception/Bond crossover. There are two sequels, and I have no concrete ideas for more yet, but there’s potential.

(I Would Like To) Paint the Way a Bird Sings - the Paint Shop AU that wouldn’t quit, lol. Still can’t believe I actually finished it. Four ships for the price of one in this fic!

Summary:

To hide that he can't read, Jan Van Eck has been forcing his son to pretend he's blind since he was eight years old. Wylan is now attending Ketterdam University, and meeting Jesper Fahey may very well be about to change his life. But is he safe to tell Jesper the truth? And what will Jesper say if he does?

Jesper is struggling to weigh up his life in the Barrel and his life at the University of Ketterdam, and there's a good chance that his growing debt is about to make the decision for him. He hasn't attended class consecutively for months, but maybe that will change when his newest project includes partnering up with Wylan Van Eck. But can he really leave the Barrel behind him? And how long can he keep up the pretence of who he thinks Wylan wants him to be?

Chapter 38 - Wylan

Kaz was late. Apparently not a single member of this strange group cared about time-keeping, and Wylan could already feel himself tiring of it. He stood near the door of the gambling den, the Crow Club, Kaz had called it, trying to watch the floor ahead of him without looking like he was watching it. The den was rowdy considering it was seven bells and the sun was on the rise, brightly coloured wheels spun at several of the tables, patrons cheering and exchanging chips and purple kruge notes as they landed, cards were laid out across the tables, the occasional argument seemed to begin and then die just as quickly. Wylan shuffled unhappily in the far corner of it all, fidgeting with his shirt sleeve. From here it was almost all a colourful blur to him, the outlines of people the clearest but still hazy, the shades of the wheels and the tables and the cards all blending together into one overwhelming swirl. He thought of sitting at the back of a chemistry lecture, watching the chalk moving across the blackboard, trying to make out the shapes of the molecules. The skeletal diagrams were his favourite, branching out like trees, telling a story with every stroke. But even if he’d sat on the front row the smallest details would have been lost to his blurry vision, so what, when he had a facade to maintain anyway, was the point in bothering to sit closer at all? The gambling den cried and whirled, a sickening rainbow throwing light and sound and colour at him like a full frontal assault. 

At least Jesper wasn’t here this time. As Wylan had left in yesterday’s early evening, Jesper had followed him out into the street, calling after him. Wylan ignored him until he caught hold of his arm, whereupon he spun on his heel to face him. 

“What?”

“You’re asking me that?” Jesper shook his head, “What are you doing here?”

He looked almost offended. Almost upset. Wylan couldn’t believe him. 

“You’re the one that brought me here in the first place, Jesper. Just leave me alone,”

“I brought you here because I didn’t think you had another choice,” he blurted, as Wylan tried to turn away again, “But, Wy, you don’t belong here, if you can do something else-”

“And you do belong here? Is that what this is? Ghezen, Jes, every time I think-” 

“No, that’s not what I meant, I just-”

“You were right, Jesper,” Wylan shook his arm free, “I don’t have another choice. Believe me, I wouldn’t be hanging around anywhere near you if I did.” 

He walked away, something that might have been shame burning in his heart, wishing he hadn’t he hadn’t been able to see the stung look left on Jesper’s face. Not even the feeling of an entire ninety kruge sitting in his pocket could comfort him from that, but he’d be a fool not to try. Ninety kruge. It would take him days to scrounge that together at the tannery; building six flash bombs would probably take an hour each. Six hours. Ninety kruge. Minimum. 

That was what Kaz had meant, wasn’t it? Fifteen kruge each, until Wylan proved himself worth more. If he was careful with his money, didn’t let the sudden influx of cash overwhelm him and fall into foolish spending patterns, he might save enough to leave the city in six months or so. He could catch a ferry going… anywhere. Anywhere at all. 

And then what? What possible hope did he have to exist any better elsewhere than he did here? Still, it was nice to dream. 

The sound of a cane against the stairs was the first sign that Kaz had finally arrived, and Wylan looked up to see him and a girl he didn’t recognise walking together. The room was loud but as Wylan slowly approached he could just about hear the edge of their conversation.

“ - refused to eat anything,” the girl was saying, “She wouldn’t take any water, either,”

Kaz grimaced. 

“Keep leaving it for her. She’ll eat when she gets hungry enough,”

“And if she doesn’t?”

“What else can we do, Layla?” he asked, coolly, his dark eyes flicking over her, “I’m not going to force feed her. Just keep things together, keep it under wraps, and try to keep her alive until I get back,”

“Kaz… what are we doing?”

“I’m leaving,” he said, his voice the rough grate of stone against stone, “You’re doing your damn job, and keeping half an eye on that girl until I get back,”

Layla bristled a little but eventually she nodded, before hurrying back up the stairs. Kaz descended the last few steps alone before he bothered with acknowledging Wylan. 

“I didn’t get a chance to speak to Raske last night,” he told him as they began to walk towards the front entrance, “But he’ll meet us now to discuss your labelling system; if we can find a way to align it with his that would a good start,”

Wylan only nodded; all he knew about Raske was that he was currently the only person making demolitions for Kaz, and that Kaz wanted to bring Wylan in to have more hands on the project. And that would have been fine, if Wylan knew what he was doing. Working with Raske sounded precarious. It sounded like a good way to get caught out - one way or another. 

Kaz stopped, looking Wylan up and down, and Wylan deliberately waited until Kaz would have taken his next step to pause and turn back to him, so it looked like he’d only known to do so when he didn’t hear Kaz move forwards. 

“I was told you use a cane,”

“I lost it,” Wylan said, not untruthfully, “when- in the canal,”

“Should I look into procuring you another?”

Wylan hesitated for a moment. He took in Kaz’s own cane, sleek and dark with an ornate metal crow’s head forming the handle, without letting himself study it properly. He had not, of course, forgotten the way Kaz had tried to test him yesterday. Requesting such an aid from Kaz, whether or not for such an entirely different purpose, felt… well, insulting. 

“I can make do without just fine,” he said, waiting for Kaz to start moving again before he followed. 

Kaz said nothing. 

“Your cane strikes the ground with some force,” Wylan noted, as they stepped out into the street, “It sounds like iron, but surely it’s not iron all the way through - wouldn’t that be too heavy?”

He felt Kaz’s eyes drift towards him, but did not let himself look or turn. 

“It’s iron-tipped,” he said, “But lead-lined. It balances the weight well,”

“And it's a weapon, then?”

Kaz seemed to hesitate, only for a moment so brief that Wylan may have imagined it, before he said: 

“Amongst other things,”

Wylan almost smiled. He already understood Kaz Brekker a tiny bit better.

Meeting Raske had gone better than Wylan might have expected; though he was a slightly disconcerting character he had nothing to say about Wylan’s construction ability and most of the time seemed to be paying little attention to him anyway. That first day they just sat together working, and every time Wylan needed something Raske would find it in the organised chaos of his workshop. 

“We’ll set up your labels as soon as possible,” Kaz had said, when they’d agreed upon a system and he was making his way to the door, “But I’m not investing time in it before you’ve proved your worth. Six flash bombs, by the end of the week,”

Wylan finished four of them today. Well, five if you count the one he tested to make sure that they would work, but he couldn’t exactly give that one to Kaz. Still, there were three days left of the week and only two more flash bombs to build. This was easy. But Wylan knew that flash bombs were the tamest of the projects Kaz wanted him to work on, and he knew that - even if not in the building of the things themselves - this was only going to be easy to a point. 

It was on the second day that Jesper showed up outside the door, holding Wylan’s abandoned satchel. Wylan tried to walk straight past him. He couldn’t do this. 

“Wylan - Wylan, I know you know I’m here,”

He kept walking.

“You don’t have to talk to me, I just want to give you your stuff back,”

Wylan paused for a moment, then turned slowly and held out his hand. He let Jesper guide his hand to the strap of the bag and took hold of it, feeling the weight of his clothes shift between them. 

“Thank you,”

Jesper grinned, like by making Wylan talk he had come away victorious. 

For every day that week, he was standing outside when Wylan arrived. For every day that week he tried to get Wylan to talk to him, and Wylan could barely fathom why. 

“What are you trying to get me to do?” he asked, eventually, snapping even though he wasn’t sure that he’d meant to, “Why are you still here? I don’t know what else you could want from me, Jesper,”

Jesper looked briefly affronted, but schooled his features quickly. 

“I just want to apologise,” he said, “I could try to make it up to you,”

“How?”

“I don’t know. Coffee?”

Wylan raised an eyebrow. 

“I’ve never seen coffee fix anything”

“You’ve never been for coffee with me.”

Wylan restrained a smile. 

“Coffee,” he nodded, “I suppose that’s alright. If you pay,”

“See you tomorrow, then?”

Wylan shrugged. 

“I suppose you will,”

But Wylan had not been prepared for what coffee plans with Jesper Fahey meant. 

He saw him out the window before he actually went downstairs, but of course Jepser didn’t know that. It was relatively early in the morning, but nothing like the pre-sunset hours Wylan had been dragging himself through the streets of Ketterdam during to get to the Warehouse District each morning. Sleeping until six bells had become a luxury, and today he hadn’t even climbed his way out of bed until eight. It took him slightly by surprise when he opened the curtains and saw Jesper was already on the street outside, crossing towards the boarding house. Wylan slipped quickly and almost nervously downstairs, to be greeted by Jesper the second he opened the door. He was holding flowers. 

“Okay I didn’t really think it through when I bought them,” Jesper was saying, though Wylan was barely paying attention. His throat felt horribly constricted, “But I guess you’ll just have to take my word for it that they’re pretty. There - can I take your hand?”

Wylan let him, though he wasn’t sure he had the capacity to actually say anything either way. Jesper led him gently to one of the flowers so he could feel just the tips of the soft, round little petals. 

“These ones are blue, and then these,” he directed Wylan to the edge of a tiered little flower, “are purple. Sorry, it’s not a great gift for you really. But they do smell nice,”

Wylan nodded vaguely as Jesper pressed the bouquet into his hands. He just stood there, staring straight ahead, holding them until he felt the stems snap between his fingers. He could barely breathe. 

“Wylan…” Jesper leaned slightly closer, concern and what might have been a note of panic sneaking their way into his voice, “Are you okay?”

Wylan was not proud of what he did next. He turned and ran back up the stairs, slammed and locked his door, then leant against it and slipped slowly to the floor, the broken flowers still clutched between his fingers.

They were originally GBF characters but they've jumped to so many different universes and become full blown OCs by this point. They're enemies-to-lovers, they're 'I'll find you in every life time', they're unapologetically horny, they give me so much joy and happiness I could vomit rainbows.

Ahru & Deryk: This is probably pretty obvious if you've been following me at all. Ahru has a lot of ships I could ramble about for an age but this is the one I'm rotating in my brain 24/7 these days. I love how they fit together, I love how they get to experience the world all fresh and new, free of their burdens, together. aughghghg anyway. (Holds up boombox blasting 'Francesca' by Hozier)

Ahru & Arshadaya: This is like, my sleeper ship. Like Thanahru it's kinda present in every Ahru verse, but more. They're platonic, they're romantic, they're inextricably linked in ways that should be concerning and even questionable but it works for them. Arsh wanted to meld with Ahru's soul ('to save Nyx') before he inevitably accepted her as herself instead of 'Azem's Shard' and swore that same loyalty and devotion to her that he did Nyx. To the extent that when she got chopped up by the Servants of Light he sacrificed a good portion of himself to restore her, only adding to the 'inextricably linked in concerning questionable ways'. As a result he's in like a magical coma that could last gods knows how long but he maintains a link with Ahru continuing to protect and watch over her even now. They've basically fused into one being but he sleeps on the sidelines because her happiness and continued existence is the most important thing to him. :''')

Legend gets a letter from Ravio every time the mailman finds them. Every single time, without fail, there will be a letter penned in purple ink, with a big ‘Mr. Hero’ written on the front, with a small scribble of a rabbit. Legend always rolls his eyes at the letters, but never wastes time opening them. He seems to look forward to them. He writes back every time. They notice him scribbling down into some paper after they’re done travelling for the day, staying close enough to the fire for some light and far enough away that nobody else can see what he writes. Sometimes, they exchange gifts. One time, Ravio gave Legend a pair of emerald earrings, so Legend sent him a ruby necklace in return. When asked about it, Legend just rolled his eyes and said that they always do it. He wears those earrings all the time, now. Ravio’s letters always have something attached to them. Dried flowers, small ribbons, sometimes even just little stones that he thinks ‘look pretty’, according to Legend. They never think anything of it. It’s nice to see Legend look forward to something. “Ledge, you got another letter!”Wind yells, waving the aforementioned letter in the air as he waits for Legend to come and get it. “It’s in the purple ink again!” “Course it is,”Legend mumbles, blinking sleep out of his eyes and making a waving motion, beckoning Wind over to bring it to him. He just woke up, and hasn’t attached his leg yet, so Wind doesn’t complain this time as he takes the letter to him. He opens it with a hum, using his teeth to tear the envelope open. Rolls his eyes at the disgusted noise Warriors let out as he dumps the contents out. Alongside the letter, there was a ribbon. A lot of ribbon actually, bunched up. It’s purple. Legend pays it no mind. He lets the ribbon-pile rest beside him on his bedroll as he reads the letter. It takes a minute for them to realise he’s being too quiet. Usually, he tells them how dramatic and stupid Ravio is as he reads the letters. This time, he isn’t saying anything. “Legend?” “Ravio is so stupid.”Legend whispers, faint and barely audible. That’s weird. Wind wouldn’t have even heard it if he wasn’t right next to him. “Why’d you whisper that?”Wind pouts. “We live for the commentary, Ledge.” “Ravio is so fucking stupid.”Legend repeats, still quiet. His eyes dart to the ribbon, and he runs his spare hand through it to break it up. Underneath all the ribbon is a ring.

Hi! I’m Alistair— you can call me that, or you can use my username for pretty much everywhere else, TheetyPie/Theety. I don’t mind either way.

I’m a trans guy, I use he/they pronouns. I’m panromantic/asexual, and I’m 27 years old.

I have 3 cats, they’re my babies. I also (as you can tell from above) have a lot of OCs, and the number is still growing. I want to turn my ideas into a bigger creation someday, still not sure exactly where I want to go with it.

I do more than write. I do art, I like video games, music, and just collecting stuff. Current obsessions are Monster High, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, makeup, crystals, and jewelry.

Rules

The most important: I do not RP smut. In the past I’ve used the fade-to-black method, but I’m not entirely comfortable with that with most of my muses.

In the same vein, DO NOT FORCE SHIPS. I love ships as much as the next guy, but I would prefer to discuss it first, or for us to agree on it. It’s cool if your muse has a crush, totally fine— mine get crushes all the time! But make sure if you want to ship, we discuss it first.

In a similar vein to that one as well, no god-modding/powerplaying. If your character is strong, an immortal being, or whatever, cool! I have some of those too. But there should always be a limit. Don’t say your character is moving mine unless we’ve talked about that. Attempt to move them. Usually I follow along as long as boundaries aren’t pushed.

Don’t kill or seriously injure my muse without permission. Fights happen, of course, but again: discussion. I’m up for threads where my canon muses are injured or killed, but not where it happens to my OCs, unless we’re getting into a backstory and another OC that’s already deceased dies. Non-serious injuries are alright to come out of nowhere with, but if it’s a first meeting, I’d prefer to plot it out.

I’m semi-selective. I’m kind of particular about who I follow and who I thread with. I prefer us to be mutuals to thread, but you don’t have to be mutuals to send me things.

I’m very bad at keeping up with people. If you message me and I don’t respond, it’s usually bc I’m shy, I forgot, or I’m busy with work. It’s not you, I promise. Usually I don’t message first bc I’m nervous.

Back to shipping: I’m also multiship. Usually my ships are in different universes, unless discussed with all parties beforehand. The exception is a few of my OCs that are partnered together— ask about their availability. I love random ships, just talk to me about them!

I love duplicates of my muses. Whether it’s “x meets self” or I find someone I share a muse with, I love RPing with just about everyone. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if we have a muse in common!

One of my other most important statements, not really considered a rule, but it’s still important: if you want to know something about any muse, canon or OC, please tell me— ask or message me! I haven’t been able to write down a lot of info about any of them because I’m on mobile, but I will infodump for you if you need/want to know something. I love talking about my children, they’re precious to me.

If you send something in or make something for me when we haven’t even spoken, I might not feel comfortable responding. I’m very shy and nervous about not having any discussion beforehand. 😭

Headcanons:

Died after being shoved into his locker right before Spring Break and left there to starve.

Is a fairly famous case in the online True Crime community due to the mystery around what exactly happened, and the tragedy of him being so close to graduation.

17 years old, permanently.

Left the Ghost Zone at some point after the Christmas Truce, because he realized how many ghosts are bullies who are stronger than him, and he's afraid of a lot of them.

He hangs around the school because it's where he died and he feels an attachment to it. Danny gave him the go-ahead to go back to causing problems for bullies.

Tried to get Vlad to sue the Amity Park school district for him, but they don't have a case.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

Total works? I have 398. This might not be completely accurate depending on your point of view. For almost everything I write I create a podfic for it, and these days I post it at the same time in the text document. For solely written works, I have 31.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

For all works (Including the minimal text on podfic only posts) I have 483,266. For hours of podfic, I don’t have a total right now, (My spreadsheet is messed up so I’m making a new one), but I have over 300 hours from lst count before the spreadsheet got messed up

3. What fandoms do you write for?

My main fandom right now is Hannibal. For writing only, I’ve written for Daredevil, star Wars, Dragon Ball, Avatar the Last Airbender, My hero Academia, Yuri on ice, Steven universe, marvel (Comics, MCU, And Netflix), captive prince and teen wolf. For podfic that list expands exponentially. Podfic includes all of the above, and other ones I’ve created a significant amounts of works for include Star Trek AOS, Tin Man, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Guy Ritchie movies), Dirk Gently’s holistic detective agency (TV), Harry Potter, Cracked: After Hours, Stargate Atlantis, Guardians of the Galaxy, Community and many many more. I have close to 100 fandoms I’ve done stuff in (Although some of them have multiple under the umbrella like different marvel stuff and different star wars movies)

Honor bound, an avatar the last Airbender fic my friend wrote and I podficced, swords sanctuary and solace, an ATLA fic I wrote, podfic of oh right, you were a little shit (A My Hero Academia kid fic), Boomerangs and Rainbows, At ATLA fic I podficced, and No Heart for Me Like Yours, A Dragon Ball fic I wrote

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes, I am chronically online. I get email alerts of comments, and I check my email multiple times a day, so I respond to every comment unless the email gets eaten.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

For podfic, It would either have to be the November series (A daredevil fic series that has ALL THE WARNINGS and has a v sad ending) Or Il Faut Souffrir Pour Être Beau, a Hannibal podfic that has a lot of warnings and a sad ending. For writing? Kindling (A Hannibal fanfic) which I wrote with Artemiaz is v angsty, Tethered and tied to me (An ATLA fic), has all the warnings and ends v v sad. Another close one would be The Awakening and the Sleep which has an immortal Matt Murdock (Daredevil fandom) and like it makes him even more reckless and things do not go well for him. But this is not finished. I Also have a dead dove account with a Hannibal fic that is not finished, but involves forced feminzation and underage, where things are v fucked up (I won’t link it but if you wanna read it DM me)

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Definitely No Heart for me like yours. It Is a dragon ball fic with Gohan/Vegeta, Gohan/Videl, And Bulma/Vegeta. It is p fluffy and the polyamory is well discussed and V healthy.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have got some on podfic, I like dead dove tropes and fucked up relationships, and I’ve had some people come after me for.

9. Do you write smut?

I both write and record smut. The first thingI did when I decided I wanted to podfic was record some pure smut to make sure I could do it. For writing, I’ve written a fe short smut stories, and most of my longer ones end up having at least one smut scene if not more

10. Craziest crossover?

I wrote sailor moon/dragon ball crossover when I was like 14. I have never written a traditional crossover on my current account, But I have written fusions/AU’s. I have a Steven universe x star wars prequel AU. I also have star wars AU’s for most of the fandoms iv’e written for, I have a spideypool one, A My Hero Academia one, And A Hannibal one. I have also podficced a number of fusions and crossovers. I am working on an AMAZING, Stargate sg-1 x ATLA crossover called the dragon King’s temple and it is to die for, SO fucking good

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, but I’ve been plaguized

I have not, But I do podfic my own works. And I had a friend podfic a work of mine

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes, I love it, For he has held a star was co-written, and so was kindling. I also do podtogether where I sign up with a writer to write a fic specifically for me to podfic, and I am part of/organize a lot of multi-voice podfics.

14. All time favourite ship?

I’m usually the type of person who loves one charter, and I don’t care who they are shipped with as long as the fic is good. Exceptions being currently Hannibal Lecter/Will Graham. John/Rodney from Stargate Atlantis was another, and Merlin/Arthur form Merlin. But I will read ot3’s with the two I ship in it.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

For He held a star. My co-writer got super big into the rebel legion and the mandolorian mercs (Star wars charity costuming groups) And she no longer has time to write. I want to finish it myself, but I have no idea where the story is going and I have to figure that out first.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I am good at dialogue, I find it easy to get a firm grasp on characters voices. For podfic I am excellent with both humor and drama. For certain fandoms I have been told I have an excellent impression of character’s voices.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I deffo am not used to doing extensive description. I also thought I was bad at metaphor and Similes, so I purposefully stayed away from writing them, hence fulfilling the prophesy that I would not get good, bc no practice. I am working on that now though.

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I Use it sparingly, most of the time where it is clear what it is in context. Also as a podficcer I hate when something is in another language and I have to do research to find out how to pronounce it properly.

19. First fandom you wrote in?

Sailor moon and dragon Ball Z! First intro to anime and it pulled me down a rabbit hole.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Ooh boy, IDK, I love No Heart for me like yours, It was so fluffy and with like very few problems between characters, and I though I had a fair number of funny bits in it. It was also the first WIP I finished (It ended up being just over 50k) Currently I Really love When Soft Voices Die, My Star Wars x Hannibal fusion.

For podfic I love Untitled soul mate game. A star Wars fic that is an alternate Universe - Soulmate Goose of enforcemnt fic. I think i did a great job with the humor and i added a bunch of Goose sound effects. I love Il Faut Souffrir Pour Être Beau it was so angsty and sad and i had so much fun reading all the drama. I t is also the longest podfic i have recorded to date, it clocks in at just undert 17 hours.

Heinz 57 is a marvel crack fic where a pikachu appears in Wade Wilson's apartment. It is v funny and has extensive sound effects, nd a fully soundscaped pokemon battle at the end

And lastly my fav multivoice i've organized is to have and to hold, a spidervers fic that shows a flashback of when Mile's univer's aunt may got married to doc ock for a small time. ALl of my readers were fucking phenominal and it was so funny.

last post I said “reds” in Elysium are super rare since that’s Thanatos’ color and…. WELL, YEP, HERE HE IS 🥴 plus a bonus — context?! barely!!!?? WHAT’S—?! well well WELLLL its the first time Thanatos and Tory met!! UH OH— ok notes🤪:

this is a snapshot of a canon EARLY EARLY EARLY Elysium’verse scene from the days before Maci & Tory were even dating, back when Tory was still mortal— that time Maci took him on a secret Underworld field trip, bc surely no one would find them—

except of course they ran into Thanatos completely by chance, unfortunately uhhh. Tragically. ACK! (Hypnos too but that’s not an emergency). Yknow only the literal worst person in the universe other than Hades to find Maci toting around a living mortal in the land of the dead nbd

what proceeded was an EXTREMELY weird and awkward conversation, Maci playing nice to Thanatos through gritted teeth, Thanatos being…….. “polite” but such a DICK; ending with “you better not fuckin tell my dad about this” - “I won’t 😈😇”

….trustworthy. cool! Mildly alarming to discover as they walked away that this asshole was actually Maci’s exbf?! tho Tory wouldn’t find out what had really happened btwn them for like another year

(finally, actually - Thanatos did NOT tattle straight back to Hades after this right away……. He went to supervillain ally OrigiMel-Melinoe which was arguably a million times worse. but that’s another story)
