Twst characters and perfume
But First! Fun facts related to fragrance:
Smell and memories are deeply linked. Scent and emotions are also deeply linked.
How you smell has an impact on if others see you as a stranger, family, or a potential partner ;)
Fragrances smell different depending on who wears it. Everyone has a skin chemistry that interacts uniquely with the scent molecules.
Headcanons by dorm:
Heartslabyul
Might have weird rules about fragrance, idk. Dorm smells faintly of roses, tea, and whatever's baking in the kitchen.
Riddle: Probably still follows a hygiene routine set by his mom.
Would wear/smell like: roses, tea, the library. Hermes Hermessence Rose Ikebana + Demeter Paperback
Would enjoy: fruit and gourmand fragrances, the things he couldn't have as a child :'(
Trey: Bakes things so often he semi-permanently smells like cake. Makes people hungry just by walking by.
Would wear/smell like: freshly baked cookies or bakery- sugar, butter, and vanilla. Les Senteurs Gourmandes Vanille De La Réunion
Would enjoy: gourmand scents and florals, especially violet. Van Cleef & Arpels Orchidee Vanille
Cater: Vague interest based on whats trending on Magicam, but also just in it for the pretty bottles (same). Not sure if his dislike of sweets extends to smell?
Would wear/smell like: any nice soap and hand cream with fancy packaging. Also anything trendy, like Le Labo Rose 31
Would enjoy: not sweet scents? Mint, pepper, spicy colognes
Deuce: Keeps clean, but probably isn't picky about what he smells like.
Would wear/smell like: Axe/Old Spice? Soap/aftershave, sometimes metal and motor oil. Comme des Garcons Serpentine
Would enjoy: new car/Magicwheel smell, whatever reminds him of his mom :')
Ace: Probably does not care much but gets used bottles/recommendations from his brother (chicks dig this cologne, dude!)
Would wear/smell like: Axe/Old Spice lol. Whatever's popular.. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue
Would enjoy: hmm not sure. Fruit fragrances, cherry?
Savannaclaw
Since they're beastmen they would likely not enjoy strong scents, and have preferences based on animal species. Dorm smells like dry hay, woods, eucalyptus.
Leona: Has straight up sniffed people and will do it again. Might comment on others smelling bad but wouldn't care about himself. Probably has a lot of unopened bottles, sent to him by family and the royal perfumers.
Would wear/smell like: warm fur, leather, animalics. Amouage Overture Man/ Bvlgari Man in Black
Would enjoy: Calvin Klein Obsession. Whatever suits his lion fancy, idk?
Ruggie: Would balk at the thought of buying perfume. Who cares as long as you're clean?
Would wear/smell like: warm fur, grass, the Good laundry detergent (courtesy of Leona). Demeter Kitten Fur :3
Would enjoy: gourmand fragrances, might make him hungry though.
Jack: Doesn't care about himself, as long as he’s clean. Sensitive to ambient smells, as per his vignette.
Would wear/smell like: warm fur, animalics. Also probably the gym but shhh
Would enjoy: forest scent- pine trees smells like home. Also pears. Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles
Octavinelle
I wonder if their sense of smell changes based on if they're transformed? Did the air smell different when they first came on land? Does the ocean smell like home? Many questions here. Dorm smells cool and clean - water, cucumber, calones, ex. Zoologist Seahorse.
Azul: Likely has different perfumes based on occasion and audience, and knows the psychological effects of scent as a marketing tactic. Usually goes for iconic, recognizable scents with an established brand (like Chanel).
Would wear/smell like: ink, books, and tea from the long hours of studying. Alkemia Book of Shadows
Would enjoy: tbh not sure, gourmand scents?
Jade: Aware of fragrance mostly through tea. Not sure if he would personally be interested.
Would wear/smell like: moss and teas, due to the terrarium and tea hobbies. Creed Silver Mountain Water
Would enjoy: tea, forest/mountain scents. Definitely Demeter Mushroom
Floyd: Generally unpredictable, doesn't care until he does lol. Will also straight up sniff you and comment on it
Would wear/smell like: Axe/Old Spice just to annoy Azul. Sprays something just to wash it off 10 minutes later.
Would enjoy: whatever strikes his fancy at the moment. I think something from Etat Libre d'Orange would keep him entertained.
Scarabia
Room fragrance delivered monthly, courtesy of Al-Asim family. Dorm smells like spices, oud, and clay.
Kalim: Family has many dedicated advisors and perfumers. May prefer strong, intense fragrances.
Would wear/smell like: cashmere, warm spices, amber. Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540
Would enjoy: coconut, scents that remind him of parties and vacations. Paco Rabanne 1 Million Parfum
Jamil: Keeps clean but generally indifferent. Smells faintly like whatever Kalim is wearing.
Would wear/smell like: hair products, spices from making food. Versace Versace Pour Homme Oud Noir
Would enjoy: tbh not sure? Dry fruit and spices might smell like home, but I can also see him enjoying scents that feel like an escape from his usual life.
Pommefiore
Likely has some sort of fragrance in every room. Fights have broken out because of perfume.
Vil: Blends his own, of course. Knows the industry well, has connections and access to rare ingredients.
Would wear/smell like: depends on the occasion. I feel like he would wear fragrance to get in character.
Would enjoy: scents reminiscent of his father's cologne. Vintage/classics like Guerlain Jicky.
Rook: Prefers not to wear anything himself for better camouflage. Likely has a sharp sense of smell that rivals beastmen.
Would wear/smell like: suede, leather, grass. Tom Ford Tuscan Leather.
Would enjoy: can appreciate any scent. Waxes poetic until Vil drags him away from the perfume counter.
Epel: Forced to wear Vil's recommendations to fit a cute image, rip.
Would wear/smell like: Axe/Old Spice lol, but only away from Vil. Spraying habits that disgust and horrify the entirety of Pommefiore. Casualties: 2 dead 17 injured.
Would enjoy: "manly" scents, but also apple/apple blossom remind him of home. 4160 Tuesdays Up The Apples & Pears
Ignihyde
Cares the least about fragrances overall. Dorm smells synthetic, concrete and metal.
Idia: Only interested if it's related to an idol/anime. Has the 5 in 1 shampoo/conditioner/body wash/toothpaste/machine oil
Would wear/smell like: Baja Blast and Dorito dust. Strong tea and energy drinks from pulling all nighters. Jacques Zolty Severo
Would enjoy: tbh not sure.. Plastic, metal, and cleaning spray remind him of home.
Ortho: Curious about how people are affected by fragrance. Could probably make something for you on the spot.
Would wear/smell like: something airy and light, metal and synthetics. Demeter New Car (lol)
Would enjoy: Not sure if he has a sensor for that? Whatever his brother likes I guess.
Diasomnia
Not sure if fairies have a different sense of smell? Dorm would smell like moss, stone/earthy notes
Malleus: As the centuries change so do the smells of things (I think). Rarely finds anything that smells nostalgic.
Would wear/smell like: moss, earth and petrichor from wandering around old buildings. CB I Hate Perfume M2 Black March
Would enjoy: tbh not sure.. Sorry Tsunotaro :(
Lilia: Fascinated by all the new stuff molecular chemistry is coming up with. Remembers when they were simply called scented waters.
Would wear/smell like: something that's been produced for a long time, a classic. 4711 Original Eau de Cologne/Zoologist Bat just because of the name
Would enjoy: anything new and crazy, but also nostalgic scents, if they even still exist for him...
Silver: Has tried smelling salts to wake up, they do not work.
Would wear/smell like: herbs, grass, white florals. Disney princess vibe but a little wilder. Amouage Reflection Man
Would enjoy: forest scents, fruits and florals remind him of childhood. Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Toit.
Sebek: Keeps clean but also probably not picky, might complain of smelling too human though.
Would wear/smell like: sharp, clean, hair wax and aftershave. Gotta look good for Malleus! Penhaligon's Sartorial.
Would enjoy: anything Malleus likes. Medicinal/cleaning spray scents remind him of home.
Resources:
Fragrantica perfumes by note (very fun to look through, especially the synthetics section)
Now Smell This FAQ
The Scent of Desire by Rachel Herz (all the psychology stuff)
Personal opinions and disclaimers:
I have not personally sniffed any of these perfumes so I'm going off the descriptions and reviews on Fragrantica. I have also not read all of the characters vignettes so these might not reflect canon. IMHO how you smell is a reflection of how you live day to day, and what perfume/cologne you choose is a reflection of what you like and how you want others to perceive you. So I've split this into two parts:
Would wear/smell like = what scent they think represents them/what would rub off on them based on environment/lifestyle
Would enjoy = mostly based off of what smells familiar to them + other guesses

AI bros from hell
Hello! Do you have a bit of your time for a story on AI bros and clients from hell? I bring a really fun one!
I met this guy at a con I was tabling at over a year ago, before AI was a thing. He said he enjoyed my art, and inquired me about whether I did book illustrations. I said yes- He was specifically interested in my bigger pieces, the fully rendered and detailed ones. He agreed to send me later a DM to discuss specifics.
For two weeks, he kept DMing me on details about his book, what he wanted, etc. He wanted full illustrations for inside the book as well as a cover, all of them fully colored, painted and rendered. He also wanted illustrations in this style to post on social media to promote the book. I had warned him that something like that would be costly, but he insisted that he needed this to be the best of the best.
Now, I was getting bad vibes from the guy. I shit y'all not, his instagram handle was "The next tolkien". I wasn't however gonna refuse a job opportunity. Now, he finally asked for prices: He had reassured me he was willing to pay fairly for this. Since he's a starting author, I gave him my non-commercial quotes, which are much, much, much lower than the standard for book illustrations. I mean "if you search for how much this costs on google, the lower prices are x5 times more expensive than what I offered".
The guy, upon receiving that, just ghosted me. Immediately unfollowed, didn't reply me with a "sorry, I can't afford it" or "sorry, i was expecting to pay $10 for a full rendered full background several-characters-picture". Nothing.
The other day I decided to search what he was up to. He's now released... THREE books for this series. There's a single review in the first one. Not even written, just a stars one. Also, notably, he had a webpage put together promoting the book, and. Yeah.
All the art is AI crap.
Which makes sense. My guy was very on his high horse about how fantastic of a writer he is, but I guess art isn't really to be compensated fairly. When he saw the "art stealing machine you just pay a subscription for", I'm guessing he was very excited.
So, uh, here's some of the marvelous pictures he generated of the characters, which surely tell you about how great the book is. AI is theft, so I don't give a f*** about reposting it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have a lot of opinions about creators who write, draw or make music, who are more than happy to use AI for other stuff- Album covers made with AI, writers using AI crap for book illustrations, artists using AI-made music. It feels like you're sh*tting in any other artistic field and showing how little you respect anyone but yourself. Like, I'll be honest, I don't have interest reading a book from someone who considers that other forms of art aren't real or worth any money. It just tells me you're devoid of any interest for art or humanity.
As an ending note, his instagram description is "More closer to god than to human", which does add to the clownery.

Review #146: Parallel Lines, Blondie
Man oh man oh man. I love Blondie so much. I found this record in the Windsor Oxfam. I don’t remember exactly how old I was, but I remember what boyfriend was with me so that puts me between 15 and 18. Yeah, same guy. I actually don’t remember if he ended up getting his hands on this record or not. I think I still have it. Will rifle through my collection later to check.
Blondie was in the “being cool” wilderness for some absolutely crazy reason at that point, and nobody really gave a shit about them anymore. When I was 17 or 18 they were playing the Reading Hexagon which is honestly still just such an unbelievable insult I’m still annoyed about it. I’ll circle back to that.
Parallel Lines epitomizes the complete and total coolness and badassery of Debbie Harry. I have never wanted to be someone more than I wanted to be her. So much confidence. Such incredible cheekbones. Such commitment to art. No apologies. The voice of an angel one moment and snarling whimsical warnings, like, hey you, don’t fuck with me, the next. Always standing in front of all of those completely non-descript nobody dudes. Yeah they’re playing the music, but who cares, who are they? It’s all her. She is Blondie.
Can I pick a favorite? It opens with Hanging on the Telephone, in which she is really threatening to rip the phone clean off the wall. It might be that one. But we’ve also got the classic One Way Or Another, which needs no comment, and one of my actual favorites of all time, Heart of Glass which never fails to fuck me up, but like, it’s a god damn disco track? Like sure, yeah, let’s boogie away our heart break. And I did. And I have. And I will. And these are all SINGLES. We aren’t even discussing the actual album tracks yet. Just listen to it. Honorable mention goes to Sunday Girl, which I always really loved. It’s cute and it’s kind of sweet in a very teenage girl kind of way that worked for me since I was in fact, a teenage girl. Also, not on the official album release, but there was a version of that track where the latter half was sung entirely in French and I always really dug it.
Okay so circling back to the Hexagon. This is a weird story and I’m still not sure how I feel about it, to this day. As I said, Blondie were playing a show at the Hexagon. I was absolutely obsessed with them, and Debbie Harry. I was also 17 or 18 and spent every penny I had on going to shows, but those pennies were pretty limited. I worked as a waitress at the pub that was two doors down from my house. It was full of characters. One such character was a regular, he was in his late 40s, was very wealthy, didn’t drive, was single, and spent literally every bit of his spare time in that pub. Think on that. He paid a lot of attention to the various young women that worked there. Was he creepy? No not exactly. But did it make you uncomfortable? Yes it did. Because you never knew when he might make it weird. Everyone liked him well enough. One day out of the blue this guy presented me with five tickets to the Blondie show. I didn’t know what in the hell to say or whether to accept them. Or what it meant. Whether there were expectations attached to them. Whether it was okay to take them. I was uncomfortable. I was 17.
Here’s what happened. My Mom, who sort of knew him too, since he was always there, decided it was fine, because she wanted to go. But for it to be okay, she decided he also had to come. So we went, he came, and a few friends too. The thing is though, she never knew him like I did. I saw him every day. I saw him with the other girls that worked at the pub. I saw him drunk off his ass. I don’t know that I ever would have taken the tickets. Or if I did, I’m not sure I ever would have invited him. I feel a bit queasy about it to this day. I think in the end something really off-base happened one night between him and someone on staff and he got barred. That was usually the way it went with regulars who were there that often.
The other thing to note is that Blondie ended because Debbie Harry was with Chris Stein, who was literally dying of some rare autoimmune disease throughout their last tour. There were other factors at play, but essentially, they broke up because he was too sick and she stayed at his side and became his full-time carer. When he was well, he left her. They are, remarkably, still close friends to this day and still perform together. Just never forget that men are dogs, and that Blondie is and always will be Debbie Harry. I love her. To this day she looks better than I do in a mini skirt and I love that for her.
ETA: I checked and in fact, I do not still have Parallel Lines in my record collection, but I am quite confident it got lost when I moved back to the US. Also, I’m not 100% certain that show was at the Reading Hexagon. I just know it was a shitty venue not worthy of Blondie. This was 18 years ago. You get the idea.

A few facts about the characters of "Baki the grappler"
Characters: Baki, Hanayama, Katsumi, Jack, Retsu.
Baki
Food
- it may seem that he prefers something simple, but he doesn't mind trying unusual food combinations. According to the type of ice cream with French fries.
- traditional Japanese cuisine on weekdays and fast food on weekends. He likes to treat himself to a big burger on Saturday night. Although he will have to work hard afterwards to get himself back in shape.
- has a neutral relationship with alcohol. He can drink during the holiday, but usually tries to abstain.
Leisure
- you can't tell from him, but he reads quite a lot, although he can't be called a bookworm. He definitely likes manga and comics, as well as something light from Japanese classics. He reads to relax, so he doesn't want to strain his brain.
- he likes to play board games. He is quite experienced in them, but in some cases, fortune does not favor him.
- walking in the fresh air. As I said, he just wants to relax, so contemplating nature is perfect for that. He likes the prospect of going somewhere to the countryside and staying there to live.
Moment:
It was early in the morning, when the city had not yet had time to wake up. The young man was sitting on a bench in the park, which was close to his house. Despite the fact that summer had already arrived, it was quite cool outside, but the young man did not seem to notice this. Hanma has been visiting this place quite often lately. Perhaps it was here that he could fully relax. His thoughts were confused, like the thoughts of a man who had just woken up, he was thinking about everything and at the same time about nothing. However, he noticed all the peculiarities of his environment. For example, he noticed that the birds were calling to each other today more briskly than usual, and also that this morning was warmer than yesterday, but it was still a little cool for summer... He liked it... And he also liked to have such a carefree time... This is the kind of environment he wants to spend his life in...
Hanayama:
Food
is mmmm... He loves Japanese fast food. You know, quick fried meat in batter with vegetables and various sauces. Or udon in a small but cozy eatery. But he needs really big portions.
- he also likes traditional Japanese dishes, but he prefers not to eat them too often.
- Alcohol? He is an expert in this. It may seem that he drinks only strong drinks, but he is also very well versed in the lungs. Hana also belongs to the type of people who drink and do not get drunk.
Leisure
- naturally, he spends a lot of time in bars. He knows all the bars in Tokyo. And he wrote a review for each, all the pros and cons of the institution were taken into account. He finds this way of spending time very entertaining.
- he likes to play billiards when he has free time. And he's pretty good at it. Despite his size, he is adept at this.
- fishing. Ohhh, he's a pro at this. And how else can you call a man who went to a shark with his bare hands? But even in less extreme conditions, he finds pleasure in fishing.
Moment:
A hard day. This is perhaps the most plausible description of what happened today. There are so many issues that need to be resolved "urgently", so many people who do not understand what they want from him... It exhausted him. His head was throbbing violently, preventing him from concentrating...What was he thinking about? Yes, there's nothing to talk about.Hana was in the very state when a person's mind is filled with various short memories that have no connection with each other...And he didn't have a single sensible thought in his head. He lit a cigarette as usual. And he himself did not understand how he ended up where he is now. It was one of the idzkai he frequented...Heh, perhaps this really was the best option to relax. The young man sat down at the counter and waited for his order... and for some reason, he was already feeling better now. My head didn't hurt so much anymore, and there was no annoying carousel of memories. Hana waited for his order and to his delight, the food really helped him. In some cases, even such small things can make you feel better.
Katsumi:
Food
- HOMEMADE FOOD. To give Natsue her due, she cooks beautifully, so Katsumi's favorite food is homemade food. He doesn't even have a preference, he just loves it and he'll eat whatever they give him.
- he also likes strange food combinations. He is always ready to try something new, but he already has his favorite combinations. I can assume that this is watermelon and feta cheese or popcorn with hot sauce
- relationship with alcohol... Well, he only drinks on holidays, but Katsumi doesn't know the measure. If he drinks, he gets completely drunk. He doesn't know the measure at all.
Leisure
- bowling. He just likes this kind of leisure activity. And he became almost a master at it.
- he likes to sing and not only in the shower. Therefore, one of his favorite ways to spend time is karaoke. He might not be a brilliant singer himself, but he puts his whole soul into it.
- cooking. In this, perhaps, it cannot be said that he is a great master, but he really likes to learn this. He was already delighting himself with a couple of simple dishes. However, it should be noted that his dishes are a little overcooked.
Moment:
He decided to put himself under stress again. There was no other way he could have called it. Of course he liked cooking, but what was happening was terrible. The heated oil splashed in all directions, he spilled something on the floor, broke a couple of plates, and a mountain of dishes in the sink was waiting for him. Is it not a horror? Nevertheless, Katsumi was determined that he would cook this dish. Why didn't he go the easier way? Why didn't you just order what you wanted? After all, he could have asked Natsueh to cook this dish, why didn't he? There were several reasons. First, he liked it. Yes, despite what was happening, he still enjoyed cooking. And he didn't expect a good result at all, he just enjoyed the process. The second is his stubbornness. Is something wrong with him? So what, he will do it as many times as it takes for a decent result. It's a challenge for him. It's a tough call. He had to sweat a lot, but... God, he was really glad... The food was good. But as usual, it is slightly peppered.
Jack:
Food
really has no preferences. All that can be eaten is food for him.
- however, he highlights the Canadian cuisine. After all, this is his native kitchen. One of his favorite dishes is cream cake and "nanaimo"
- attitude to alcohol? Mmmm... Given his lifestyle, we can say that he does not drink at all. But sometimes when he can't sleep, Jack will drink a glass of tincture, but no more. Most likely, he will be able to put tinctures.
Leisure
- He likes to swim. This is an ideal way for him to practice and relax. Besides, he is fond of diving. (So it's ideal for him if he lives somewhere near the sea or a deep lake. This is one of his dreams.)
- he can play the guitar. Despite the fact that he trains almost all the time, he also finds time to practice it. His game is at the amateur level, but it's also not bad.
- What is it? Just like Bucky, he can't be called a bookish character, but he has a couple of bookshelves. Jack prefers little-known works by popular authors. And his favorite genres of books can be called detective and fiction.
Moment:
Quiet. It's late in the evening, it's about one or two in the morning. The noise of the city is no longer audible, only the quiet rustle of leaves and the occasional rumble of water. The atmosphere is wonderful... However... The young man had not been able to sleep for about two hours and it began to bother him. Instead of lying on the bed, he could have done something more useful with a light... well, or at least interesting. Reading was perfect. Jack sat up in bed, turned on the lamp, picked up a book lying on one of the bedside tables and plunged into one of those most amazing worlds that are considered fiction or a fairy tale, and call it fiction. Hanma was quite picky about literature, although he didn't read much. But this book was really interesting to him. Why? Perhaps it was an interesting plot, or curious descriptions of the area, or dialogues of the characters, or... Why guess? Jack liked this book because he could use it to distract himself. There was no hint of the real world in it. Not once in the entire book has there been a hint of problems that were in the real world. And the young man didn't think it was a bad thing. On the contrary, he liked it. It brought lightness, calmness and calmness to his life... Perhaps... A little bit of happiness...
Retsu:
Food
is Chinese cuisine. To say that he loves her will not be enough... He RESPECTS her. He respects her all. From dishes in street eateries to home cooking.
- Japanese cuisine is in second place after Chinese cuisine for him. However, he is extremely critical of her. Retsu tries to eat right, so he carefully monitors what he eats.
- does Retsu drink? Exclusively on holidays. But if there is an opportunity, he will refrain from doing so. He really doesn't like alcohol.
Leisure
- cooking. And he's a pro at it. He has been cooking since childhood, he has a wealth of experience and his knowledge in cooking is still being replenished. He read a lot of books on cooking and watched a huge number of programs on this topic. He is completely enlightened, as it might seem. However, he claims that he still has a lot to grow.
- reading. But he can be called a bookworm. He read everything from classics to manga. And this made him extremely selective in the collection of works. For Retsu, the book is needed not only to relax or distract himself, but also to rethink life. The book is a source of wisdom for him.
- he is fond of photography. And in this he is at the beginner stage. But he learns fast. He likes to photograph animals and plants. He also likes to shoot landscapes.
Moment:
"Yes, this is what we need... This kind of view definitely needs to be captured." This was the first thought that came to Retsu's mind. And the scenery was really spectacular. Mount Fuji. The height is 3776. And it's amazing. The young man was really happy despite the cold and the long journey. Taking out his camera, Retsu started taking pictures... huh... Amazingly... But the camera did not transmit even a tenth of the landscape... However, the footage was amazing. Retsu didn't have much experience in photography, he was still a beginner. How did he come to this? Why photos? Everything is simple. There have been changes in it. Let's just say his mindset has changed. The young man seemed to rethink his life... And I made a conclusion. He needs to slow down. Pay a little more attention to his environment. Watch the world more. That's why he chose photography. With his help, Retsu had the opportunity to forever contemplate what he had captured.
I don't think I'll pull part 2, heh.

🔦Rewind AU: The Lost Seasons of X-Men: The Animated Series, Episode 19?, "The Room Where It Happened", the song and description, written down by Reader (and Kevin!) :
Opens up with the theme song; once done, the team is in their meeting room, with Morph presenting what they've discovered about the disappearance of (Genet? Cheetah? Lynx? Bobcat? the missing character)... They start to present it in song/poem form (it's really creative, isn't it, kit-cat!) :
Morph: Ah, team!
The X-Men: Morph, yes?
Morph: Didja hear what I found out about dear (missing character)?
Jean: No
Morph: You know Clement Street?
Storm: Yes
Morph: I've found an old clinic; that's where I believe they last were
The X-Men: Oh
Morph: All I did was sneak inside
Wolverine: That was dangerous work
Morph: Naw, not when I give it a try~
Morph: Now, how are we gonna find them, crew?
Cyclops: Well, first, let's review
Beast: (missing character). 5'4" They were quick, sharp, and had claws I know for sure
Morph: Now no one knew where they were going; there was a downpour!
Cyclops: We'll find them soon, before Winter
Morph: But-
Cyclops: Sorry, Morph, we've gotta move-
Gambit: They'd also been late for dinner
***************************************************
The team is discussing what they know of the night the missing character left, laying out different notes, a corkboard with strings and circled pages attached, and a few notebooks (those are Really Really REALLY important, kit-cat! you'll see more of those throughout the next season~!)
The group: One mutant on their own goes outside into a storm; going somewhere no one knows; close
Morph: They don't return that night. The doors were closed, wherever they went, it was through the snow; shows-
Morph: What comes from this is an abandoned clinic, on the other side of town; what's gone now is (missing character), with no trace- and here's the pièce of resistance-
Morph: No one was there in the room where it happened, the room where it happened, the room where it happened... No one was in the room where it happened, the room where it happened, the room where it happened...
Morph: No one really knows how this plan was played; who else stood to gain; how it all was laid; we just know that it happened... but there had to be someone in the room where it happened!
***************************************************
The characters are talking amongst each other now, asking if anyone noticed odd behavior or if Reader had mentioned going somewhere; they all seem upset and seem to be growing anxious and agitated (they were... but they'd lost their friend! it must have been really hard to think straight after losing them)
Wolverine: (missing character) had been off lately, in distress and disarray
Wolverine: Their notes said they had nowhere else to turn, but had found a place to help, so they caved
Wolverine: I gathered all the notes, read, yet they didn't seem to make sense, but a few seemed to say-
Wolverine: No one else can be in the room when it happens, the room when it happens, the room where it happens. Why didn't they want anyone in the room where it happened? The room where it happened? The room where it happened?
Morph: No one really knows how (missing character) just left; it wasn't like them, even when they were bereft! But somehow it happened... That no one else was in the room when it happened...
***************************************************
A few villains have entered now, and the room is getting crowded; a few of the villains include Magneto and Sabretooth; tensions seem to be rising, and the room starts devolving into angry shouting (the volume was REALLY loud!! it seemed like everyone was trying to let out all their emotions about everything) (That's sad, Kevin) (i know, kiddo, but it's okay! it gets better, i swear!
Morph: Xavier is grappling with the fact that not everyone can stand to be in the same vicinity
Morph: Everyone is fighting over why (missing character) left-
Everyone: screaming, yelling, and using their mutations
Morph: It isn't pretty
Morph: Magneto approaches with Xavier's invite, Xavier reacts with hidden delight
Xavier: Perhaps we can solve this problem by another, deal with two birds, in other words-
Magneto: Oh?
Xavier: Quid pro quo
Magneto: I suppose
Xavier: Wouldn't you want them back, as well as get rid of a foe?
Magneto: Yes, I would
Xavier: I propose we find Sinister
Magneto: And you won't let him slip away?
Xavier: Well, we shall see how it goes
Everyone: Let's go!
Morph: Wait-!
(It cuts back to the present)
Morph: No one else had found the room where it happened, the room where it happened, the room where it happened ... We still don't know if it's the room where it happened, the room where it happened, the room where it happened!
Morph: MY God! My team, I trust! But we don't really know what (missing character) discussed! Just boom-! Then it happened! They weren't in the room where it happened!
Morph: (missing character)! What did they tell you to make you leave without a warning? Did anyone know about your problems, did they blackmail you to come hither? Or did you even know it didn't matter if you went or not?
Beast: Because they'd already took them; they had what they wanted
Morph: They took (missing character)!
Rogue: And they hid them where we're not
Morph: If we got skin in the game, we stay in the game; but we can't win unless we keep playing the game; we get love for it, we get hate for it, we can't get (missing character) if we wait for it (wait for it)!
Morph: Gods, help and forgive us! We just want (missing character) back even if it costs us!
Morph: What do we want, team? What do we do,, team? If we don't start now, there won't be a (missing character)!
***************************************************
The group is now by an old building, looking to be in shambles. They enter, having tonuse their mutations and a few flashlights to look through the dusty and cracked halls and rooms. It looks really... creepy... (it looked like someone tried to destroy it, to hide any evidence of any wrong-doing...)
Cyclops: We've got to be in the room where it happened, the room where it happened, the room where it happened... We've got to be in the room where it happened, the room where it happened, the room where it happened-
Morph: We've got to go to the room where it happened, the room where it happened, the room where it happened! We've got to be in the room where it happened, the room where it happened, that big old room!
Everyone: This is the art of our compromise
Morph: Hold your nose and close your eyes
Everyone: We need to explore this place to save the day
Morph: But we don't even know if there's someone left to save...
Everyone: We keep seeing broken parts
Morph: But we need to find the hidden heart! It's as dark as a tomb, where it happened...
Morph: But we've found the room where it happened-
CLICK! BOOM!
(Something had fallen, the door, I think?)
Then they're in the room, dark and filled with wires and a strange machine... They fiddle with it a little, but then one of the team finds a file- (important file!)
And in the file are papers about the missing character, and everyone seems to draw in closer, looking pale and shocked-
And then they're staring at the screen, as though surprised to sew whatever is there...
Then the episode ends with them taking their findings back to the mansion, and starting a plan to decode where the missing character is... (Good episode, right, kit-cat? Aren't you glad they finally found a clue?)
( @thewickedweiner Surprise~! Thank you for the idea! It's a little rough around the edges, but here is a parody/episode for your idea! What do you think? Also, @sugar-soda @vivid-bun @danni1323 what do y'all think, too? Again, @thewickedweiner Cube Anon, this was SO fun!!!)

COCO'S REVIEW: LACKADAISY INGENUE (Ft. @thesilliestofallqueers)
Welcome to Coco’s Review! Where I review and breakdown episodes, movies and etc and overthink every tiny detail  and/or give my thoughts and opinions :D
Today I'm discussing Lackadaiy Ingenue (ft.Robin)
Tumblr media
Yes I’m a fan of Lackadaisy! I haven’t been there since the start BUT I have been following the series ever since the animated pilot- I’ve also read a handful of the comics but I wasn’t able to read everything. But I have a good idea of the characters and their lore. I’m very happy to revisit this series through Lackadaisy Ingenue! So to start things off I want to define what ‘Ingenue’ means for those who don’t know (like I did). According to google, “An Ingenue is an innocent or unsophisticated young woman, especially in a play or film.” which makes a lot of sense since this short focuses on Ivy when she was a little kitten (I’m assuming she’s around 6-9 here), and I guess this short technically counts as a film. New word to add to your vocabulary ✨ So the short opens with Ivy’s father, Reuben Peppers showing off a car to Atlas (who is confirmed to be Ivy’s godfather in the description). Btw Reuben sounds INCREDIBLY young in my opinion, I didn’t even think he was her father- I thought he was her older brother or something but nope, that’s her dad. Confirmed in the description!
Tumblr media
We aren’t even a minute in and I’m already asking questions- mostly with how close Ivy and Reuben are. With “I like it when it’s just you and me”, it got me confused since it IS just them traveling. I’m going to assume maybe she prefers private trips with her father over using public transportation where others can hear their conversations. Which really shows how close they probably are if Ivy really enjoys one-on-one time with him.
So as Reuben greets Mitzi, Atlas, Viktor and “Joe”. Reuben and Mitzi have an interesting conversation… “What happened to New Years?” “It’s Effie, she's uh.. We’ll talk later” The look Reuben gives Ivy might imply that “Effie” is Ivy’s mother or just a relative of the Pepper family since Reuben doesn’t want to talk about it with Ivy listening. But that's just me- So that’s totally not suspicious :D
Tumblr media
I also just want to mention the nice hug Atlas and Reuben have- it really does seem like they’re very close. Which is probably why Atlas is Ivy’s godfather- Atlas seems pretty comfortable around Reuben too! From what I can tell Atlas was more of a “show more, talk less” kinda guy but that’s maybe because this is my first real introduction to him before he died (lmk if he appears in a flashback in the comics). He doesn’t have any lines in this episode too so I just thought that’d be interesting to point out. And that's why I came to that conclusion.
Tumblr media
Upnext is Ivy meeting Mordecai for the first time I’m assuming. So this seems to take place when Mordecai used to work with Lackadaisy before switching to Marigold. This also confirms that he was the bookkeeper for the daisy cafe to which if you don’t know- a bookkeeper oversees a company's financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and daily financial entries and reconciliations. They basically take care of the finances of the cafe. This scene also highlights the gun Mordecai was trying to hide, which I guess adds more evidence for Ivy to what these people actually do for a living. In the description it seems that Ivy is not very aware of what her father does for work. At least at the time. Mordecai having a gun despite being “just” a bookkeeper gives her an idea of what they might actually do other than running a cafe.
Tumblr media
Also the “I subtract numbers too” line is fucking hilarious I’m sorry 😭 Now we have the scene where Ivy and Viktor’s bond seems to have started! I would eat up their interactions in the comics istg I LOVE THEM<33 Victor becoming that one chill uncle
Tumblr media
Viktor lying about how Mordecai broke his arm is fucking hilarious too- I’m now requesting a short comic of Mordecai trying to rollerskate but failing miserably! ANYONE PLEASE- TAG ME IF YOU DO THAT (Rob ik youre an artist pls /j)
Tumblr media
I don’t have a lot to say about this scene- I just love Ivy and Viktor’s dynamic smm! I gotta talk abt them in one of my Dynamic Duos episodes! (getting ready to go through so many comics) After their interaction Ivy notices a broken car door with bullet holes on it. It looks very similar to the door Viktor was replacing while he and Ivy were talking. That’s when Ivy pieced it together, Mordecai’s gun and the bullet holes? Yeah it became obvious to her that these guys are criminals-
Tumblr media
You can tell that was her conclusion with her asking Viktor directly if they were robbers or gangsters while also assuring that the secret is safe with her!
Tumblr media
I’d just end my breakdown here BUT YOU SAW THE TITLE! I would like to welcome my first guest ROBIN!!! Aka TheSilliestofallQueers :D I wanted to bring them in because they know more about the extensive lore of Lackadaisy so I feel like this’d be a perfect time to have them featured! SO I GIVE THE FLOOR TO ROBIN!!
HELLO YES THIS IS ROBIN!! (@thesilliestofallqueers)
I’m not as obsessed with Lackadaisy as I used to be back when the animated pilot was just released (I had a friend who got me into it, thank you for that Breezy) but I still know quite a bit so I’ll be putting a few footnotes to this already extensive deep dive into the animated short
Apologies in advance but this is just going to be me analyzing / ranting about Viktor and Ivy’s interactions since Coco didn’t!! (ITS SPELLED WITH A K?? -Coco fixing her typos) (YEAH ITS VIKTOR LMFAOOAOAOAO -Rob) Now first of all, I found it so endearing that Viktor almost immediately warms up to Ivy and starts joking with her / trying to cover up what they actually do with lighthearted / white lies.
Tumblr media
As someone who has read the comics I always knew Viktor was fiercely protective of Ivy (He beat up her exes because he thought they were no good lol) but Ivy almost always responded to this by being annoyed with Viktor (specifically in the instance of the ex boyfriends, she got mad at Viktor for it)
So seeing her as a kid getting along with Viktor so well was refreshing and sweet (Also this short implies that these mfs are OLD AS HELL -Coco) (YEAH IT DO DUNNIT LMFAOAOAO -Robbobin)
Now they keep getting along until Viktor suddenly tells Ivy that she shouldn’t be there in the middle of her telling a joke, and you can SEE his expression shift from fond to worried as I guess he realizes that if he keeps being nice to her, she’ll want to stick around. Therefore putting her in more danger than if she was kept away
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He slams the car door as he yells at her to go, and she does, but not before giving him one last angry look because dude WHAT THE FUCKK WE WERE SO CHILL LIKE 5 SECONDS AGO
Tumblr media
And then Coco details the rest of what happened
SORRY IF MY PORTION WAS SHORT I JUST WANTED TO EXPAND ON WHAT COCO DIDNT LMFAOOAOA (also there wasn’t much to go off of since it was short + coco covered most of it in detail already) THANK YOU ROB FOR YOUR INPUT!! Tbh I was struggling with finding words for Viktor and Ivy’s scene so thankfully Rob did the job! Please go follow Rob on their page! And that concludes our breakdown of Lackadaisy Ingenue :D  Huge respect to Tracy Butler and her team for their amazing work on this because the animation is GORGEOUS and the storytelling is super clever! I’m so excited to cover the future episodes of the series when it eventually comes out !!
Tumblr media
This is Coco and Robin typing... thank you for reading!

How to Kink Meme 101
I think that for fans who never used Dreamwidth and didn't grow up on LiveJournal, kink memes can be a little intimidating (I know I was intimidated initially). But I've also never seen a format that works better for hosting one that Dreamwidth. So here is a quick guide to get you reading and posting on kink memes (and YES, there ARE still active kink memes on DW--and if your fandom's isn't, make a new one!)
And just to cover upfront: Despite the name, requests and fills generally do not have to be sexual in nature (a kink meme will state in the rules if requests are required to be sexual). You can usually request anything on the kink meme, from the smuttiest smut to the fluffiest fluff and everything in between.
The first step is always to review that kink meme's rules. Most of them will be common sense--don't bash, don't out another poster, stay on topic, etc. But it's always good to check in case there's something you didn't expect (ex: some kink memes require you to put certain trigger warnings in the title of a request).
TO REQUEST:
Find the active prompt post. Many kink memes for larger fandoms will have multiple prompt posts. When one gets too long, mods will close it to new requests and start a new one. They will usually try to make it very clear which is the active one. Here's an example from the Dragon Age kink meme:
Tumblr media
Part 8 is where you go to prompt. Other parts may still be open for fills, but are closed for new prompts. Here's another example from the Mass Effect kink meme:
Tumblr media
Here, the current post is stickied to the top of the page, and is tagged "current part" to let you know it's the active prompt post.
2. Once you select the right prompt post, make sure you're replying to the prompt post itself, not to someone else's comment. DW pages vary in style, but that reply button can reliably be found at the bottom of the page. Here's another example from the DAO page:
Tumblr media
The "reply" option WITHIN that bottom request will respond directly to that comment. The "reply" option in the bar at the bottom will reply to the entire thread. That's the one you want to hit.
Here's another example from The Silmarillion kink meme:
Tumblr media
And one more from Middle-earth kink:
Tumblr media
3. Okay so you've hit reply and you're ready to type out your idea. The one most important requirement of all kink memes is anonymity. Anonymity in requests, and in posting. Even if you feel comfortable posting with your username attached, you need to post anonymously. You can de-anon somewhere else and even link to that, but the post on the kink meme should be anonymous. That's where this button comes in:
Tumblr media
"More options." You hit that, and you'll get the option to make an anonymous post:
Tumblr media
And now you're really ready to go. Put something short and descriptive in the title (Ex: "Kirk/Spock Coffee Shop AU" or "Iron Bull get pegged") and give a longer description (as needed) in the body. Requests can be as short as a sentence or as long as several paragraphs--whatever you feel like is necessary.
Make sure to include any "do not wants" here! If you aren't sure what that means, check below.
NB: Generally, it's considered polite to keep a reasonable ratio of requests::fills. That is, if you're making a lot of requests, you should be trying to fill some from others. It doesn't have to be only fic either--if you're better at drawing than writing, a fanart fill most often works too!
TO FILL:
Okay, so there's requests...but say you find an idea you really like and you want to give OP a fill. It's going to be the same deal as before, except in the body of your post you'll put the fic rather than a request. DW has a character limit per comment, so it's not unusual to break even a relatively short fill into multiple posts. Nor do you have to post the whole fill at once--updating as you do with a fic elsewhere is totally fine. Here's what it will look like when multiple fill posts nest:
Tumblr media
And that's really all there is to the basics! DW is an older, more barebones site, so if you're accustomed to the newer web, it may seem clunky and hard to navigate, but once you've posted a time or two it will seem very simple and the kink meme community is a lot of fun!
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
"Do not derail" - Generally it's common courtesy on the kink meme not to derail a request. That is, if someone wants "A/B outdoor temple sex" it's considered rude to comment "Would love to see this with A/C!" If you like the idea but want something changed, it's better to just post your own request, even if it's very similar.
Asking for clarification - It's totally fine if you want to ask OP for clarification on a point before making a fill. Keeping it anonymous, you can just respond to the original prompt to see if they meant X or Y, or if they would be okay with Z thing in the fic.
"Bonus" requests - It's pretty common to see "bonus" requests in a prompt. That is, things OP would like to see, but are fine not receiving. You can put as many of these as you like in your requests, and as a filler, can choose to include or not include as many of them as you want. Here's what that might look like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. DNW - "Do not wants." This is where you put anything that would be a deal-breaker for you: something that would cause you to not read the fic at all, or not to enjoy it. Again, you can put as many as you want, or none. Here are some examples of that:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Commenting!! - If someone fills your prompt, you should make sure to thank them! Even if the fill wasn't exactly what you wanted, it's nice to find something kind to say about it, since someone spent the time to write something for you. And of course, feel free to comment even if the prompt wasn't yours!
7. Multiple fills - There is absolutely no problem with doing multiple fills on a prompt! If the prompt inspires you, go for it! I've definitely written fills for prompts that already had two or three fills. Usually, OP is delighted to have more than one fill ^.^ I think it's really interesting to see where different authors take the same prompt, and some prompts are open to a variety of characters.
8. Fill posts - Some kink memes also have a separate "fill post," somewhere you drop links to fills. This is just a neat way of collecting them, so if you fill a prompt, try to drop a link there, just to get more eyes on it!
9. De-anoning - So you've written a fill anonymously, but you want to share on your AO3/tumblr/Twitter/wtv. Feel free! You can out yourself as the author of a fill wherever else you want, and "de-anon from the kink meme" was a pretty common author's note to see back in the day. You can even comment on the original kink meme fill with a link to other places you've posted it. Personally, I usually come back and drop an AO3 link to any fills I crosspost.
10. Timing - Some kink memes are quite old, with requests going back 10+ years. The OP of that prompt may no longer be checking it, but that shouldn't stop you from filling the prompt if you like it--you're almost sure to find another audience owo
11. Alerts - DW is pretty limited in the "notifications" you can receive from it, but if you have or make a DW account and want to get notified of updates on a kink meme, you'll want to first subscribe to that page.
Tumblr media
(I'm already subscribed here, but that little journal will show a green checkmark if you aren't yet subscribed, and you just hit that so that any new posts on the meme will go into your DW feed.)
However, because kink memes operate more on comments than posts, you'll also want to get alerts for any new comments from the active prompt post. Find the active prompt post, and hit this bell button:
Tumblr media
You'll get this pop-up:
Tumblr media
And you can go ahead with the email notif, or if you're like me and want DW notifications to stay on DW and out of my email, hit "More Options" and uncheck the email notif. This way, any new comments will only show up in your DW inbox as an unread message.
Tumblr media
And that's everything! Or at least everything I can think of. If you have another question please feel free to comment. I think kink memes are a lot of fun and I hate to think of anyone unable to participate because they're not familiar with the format.
Enjoy!

YES YES YES THAT IS A VERY ACCURATE DESCRIPTION OF HIM.
Pretty much after he no longer is a decepticon and is working with the military he becomes obsessed with this show called nurse whitney (it's p much just like Grey's anatomy or smthn ig) and he becomes so inlove with this show he watches it and bases scripts of it and his dream is to become a screenwriter. After the war whenever he comms other decepticons they usually answer with "no I haven't read ur screenplay yet" 😭 which I think thats super cute bc almost everybody he's met he is obsessed with showing his writing and having ppl review them for him (also also, in some panels he's wearing reading glasses which is chefs kiss)) also important to note that even tho both starscream and skywarp betrayed him (fucking shot him after finding out he was no longer a decepticon on multiple occasions)) he was willing to just forgive them and let them all be buddies again. He also talks abt movies alot and when he gets reunited with them he tells them how he's always seen them as the three amigos and asks them if they've seen that movie 😭
Do you know marissa faireborn? She's the leader of the group he works for. Some speculate he has a crush on her (which I also agree with) bc the main character of his story and her lover are lowkey hinted at to be him and her (her name has been scribbled out in his script and replaced with his oc's name, and her bf in the story is apparently as handsome as an f22 jet and can travel at mach 10)) but he's very sweet to her and helpful even tho she's lowkey kinda rude to him ahehwhwv she was the one to gift him his dog tho. She reads his scripts even tho she dreads it and he said he'd only work with that military group if they offered marissa a job. They also go on vacation alot together. I'll think of more things but those are just some of the reasons he's so fuckin sweet.
- from number 1 idw thundercracker fan
AWWWWWWW I LOVE HIM!
I had heard about Marissa before but I didn't know TOO much about her other than the fact that she was a bit abrasive, they were friends and coworkers, and she would read his work even if she wasn't super interested.
He seems so SWEET and like such a lovable DORK I really love that he's an aspiring writer and he's always showing off his work. That's confidence in your art, babey! And I'm glad he's still buddies with Skywarp and Starscream cause I love trine dynamics SO MUCH. Thank you so much for the crash course on this sweet boy! To be honest I have been working on a little pet project starring TC based on what I thought his personality was like and this makes me a lot more confident in my read of him, so that may be something to expect in the future!

Here is my spoiler-heavy review of/bitch session about Perihelion. I, uh, didn't like it much. I can see the hard work and the love that Claudia Gray has for this series and these characters, and I appreciate it. But. It didn't work for me.
I went into this completely blind. As in, I didn't even read the am*zon blurb or the inside flap to see what it was about. I saw "new official X-Files book" and blacked out and then I had it in my hands. It's part casefile, part mytharc, picking up shortly after the events of My Struggle 4, and clearly meant to be a launching pad for continuing the show as a series of novels.
The casefile is about a killer targeting pregnant women, and Mulder and Scully get called in to investigate because of electrical disturbances in the vicinity of the murder. The mytharc is about the group that moves in to fill the power vacuum left behind by the destruction of the Syndicate (a group calling themselves the Inheritors) and the genetic fallout from the Syndicate's experiments that has resulted in people developing, um, superpowers. Like legit X-Men-style superpowers. And these X-Men aren't happy about it.
Okay let's talk about the casefile bit first. Look. I am sick to fucking death of this show's treatment of women and fertility. If I had known that was going to be the focus of part of this book, I don't know that I would have read it. There are some fairly graphic descriptions of one of the crime scenes early in the book that really turned my stomach, not in a "this is a fun scary story" kind of way but in a "this violence hits far too close to home and I am experiencing the starts of a panic attack" kind of way, so be mindful of that. There are also some scenes from the killer's POV as he stalks his victims - including, of course, Scully 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 - that are so enraging and pathetic I could barely get through them.
And then - TWIST - it turns out he doesn't have electricity powers.... SCULLY DOES. Yeah. Straight up superhero "shoot somebody with a bolt of lightning like DPO" powers. I. I don't.... I can't talk about that part right now or I'll stab myself in the face but...
Look. I love that we got a vehicle for Scully to address her trauma, get some agency, and kick some ass. She needed that. We all needed that. I do like that she completely handed this guy's ass to him when he showed up at the door expecting to face a scared pregnant lady and instead got taken down by Scully FBI in about oh 3 seconds like the pathetic misogynistic sack of shit he is. But FUCK please stop making Scully the target of a fucking serial killer. Stop.
And the book never does give a satisfactory explanation for why the electrical disturbances around each murder could have originated with Scully. Yes, she was near the scene of each crime. Yes, for SOME of them she was in an emotionally charged state. But y'all she was fucking ASLEEP during one of them. And there were many times she was emotionally charged and nothing happened. I don't mind when XF is vague about this shit, that's kind of what they do, but it could at least make sense. I thought maybe it would turn out not to be her but her baby, sensing the danger and acting out to protect or warn the others, but no... Scully just happened to be upset and nearby each time this guy hacked a pregnant woman and her unborn baby to pieces? That is a level of coincidence I just can't get behind. No. (It could still turn out to be the baby, though. I am not convinced.)
Also, unfortunately, Scully handing this guy his own ass on a silver platter was kind of a disappointing ending to that storyline. Satisfying for Scully as a character does not equal satisfying to the reader as a story, sorry.
Okay. Now. The Mytharc.
The shadowy Inheritors kinda suck. They're rich douchebags in ivory towers pulling strings to keep themselves in luxury. If the Syndicate was the generation that pulled themselves up by their bootstraps or whatever, the Inheritors are the trust fund baby generation who are just... there. They don't actually do very much in this story, but I suppose that could change if they try to carry TXF on as a series of novels. So far they seem focused on finding the X-Men that the Syndicate created by accident so they can have a standing army of mutants to do their bidding and keep them on top.
Two such individuals are Vane, who can turn into smoke and travel like Nightcrawler (and yes that's a comparison that's made in the text, which is NOT helping the X-Men allegations) and Craddock, who can channel the dead. (Cherish Craddock is my angel baby and I love her and will hear nothing bad about her. She has superpowers that could destabilize the very structure of society as we know it, and just... uses them to run a wellness cult because it's easy and fun and she doesn't have to work in an office. Honestly, same, love that for you.) They are secretly working against the Inheritors to turn the X-Men to THEIR side instead. There's a fucking secret underground training facility and everything.
There's also a new boss at the FBI who - gasp - has questionable motivations. And a new informant in pop culture tees who - gasp - has questionable motivations. Par for the course I guess, but if you're as sick of the constant rehashing of the mytharc tropes as I am, you're gonna be rolling your eyes. The mytharc just needs to die, okay. It is too broken. Turning The X-Files into The X-Men isn't going to fix it. Casefiles forever from here on out, okay?
Scully has a nice little sidequest where she asks a friend at work to help her figure out the whole "uh there's an alien virus spreading through the population that's causing various degrees of weird mutations including literal fucking superpowers and maybe we should, like, NOT let it do that" but nothing comes of that in this book.
So overall it was kind of a weak casefile, and a mytharc that felt like a lot of set-up for a payoff that may never come, and a ridiculous pivot into superhero territory that I am just not here for. Mulder and Scully are well-written and definitely them, which I appreciated, though given where canon left off with them it's not exactly fun to hang out in their lives/heads. There was one incredibly sweet scene toward the very end where they go to a sonogram together, and that's one of perhaps 3 scenes that I am snatching up like a thieving squirrel at the birdfeeder and taking back to my treehole nest to build my headcanons around.
Also.
There were a few things that absolutely infuriated me.
So the same friend of Scully's doing the genetic thing is also helping her work out the origins of her current pregnancy, and in doing so reveals some information/hope regarding William, which Vane also confirms, and SCULLY DOESN'T TELL MULDER THIS. They do so much work on their shared grief in this book, healing and communicating and reuniting, and she DOESN'T TELL HIM THAT THIS BABY IS HIS AND MAYBE WILLIAM WAS TOO AND THE WOUND THAT RIPPED THEM APART MAYBE WASN'T EVERYTHING THEY THOUGHT IT WAS??? He deserves that information and it pisses me the fuck off that she didn't share it; William is his trauma too, and keeping that from him is just so fucking mean and feels so out of character. They end the story hiding shit from each other and WHY do we still have this as a plot device Jesus Fucking Christ.
I am also so beyond angry that CSM came back for a visit via Craddock's channeling to help Mulder. Either he did that because he's genuinely had a change of heart now that he can see things from "the other side" (oh fuck you, gag me, vomit, do NOT try to redemption-arc this man to me, not ever), OR he's using Craddock to try and continue manipulating and controlling M&S even in death and FUCK YOU NO. I don't even care which one it is. I don't want to know. That man needs to never grace my screen (or page) ever again. Can we just leave his rotting, burnt out husk on the roadside and never deal with him as a character ever again??? CAN WE MOVE ON FROM THAT FUCKWAD PLEASE.
One more thing: there was a bit where Scully is ruminating on the trauma she's endured and there's a kind of throwaway line about Mulder having suffered too, though not as deeply. Dude had part of his BRAIN stolen. He was abducted and tortured. His entire life was a rollercoaster of trauma as he ripped himself apart to uncover the truth about Samantha, only to find out that his father was part of it and also not his father and oh btw every bad thing that ever happened to him and everyone he loved was that guy's fault. DUDE WAS LEGIT DEAD AND BURIED FOR MOOOOOOONNNNTHS. I am not saying what he and Scully endured are equivalent, but this dismissal left a bad taste in my mouth.
This review is so incredibly negative and I'm sorry for that. There were parts of it I had fun with. If this wasn't an XF story but instead an original universe, I might have liked it. But if this is where XF is heading... I think I'm out. Every fan has a breaking point and Scully growing lightning powers to fight Nightcrawler in a secret underground supermutant training facility is mine. I get where you're taking this train, Claudia Gray, and I respect your effort, but this is my stop.

Fedor von Bock's War Diary, a commentary
Tumblr media
I have been reading von Bock’s war diary, and have noticed some interesting trends. I tend to agree with the Amazon top reviewer M. G Watson’s opinion, that it is written in excruciating details and professional jargon, and it may pose some problems for casual readers.
To a lay person, von Bock’s diary is heavily bogged down by factual statements and descriptions of the frontline situation, and its lack of sensibility means that the entries do not take the viewers deeper into analyzing a bigger picture nor do they show the colors of the writer’s mind and intentions- yet paradoxically, it is precisely what Bock’s mind is like- soldierly and loyal, to a point that he lacks common sense in basic human relations.
You’d get a sense that, yes, clearly this beauty is a bit off-kilter; no wonder according to E.A. Hart's "Hitler’s Generals", he was a social outcast among the officers, his harsh professional skills have no use in a normal civil society, and in turn, anything or anybody not wearing an uniform does not exist to him. You couldn't get more "autistic" than that.
The diary is clearly self-conscious that there may be readers, and oh boy, does von Bock like to complain to his readers that the OKH commanders are idiots! But not to a point that it attempts to manipulate the readers’ perceptions in order to virtue signal or to back stab, like certain historical memoirs do.
Tumblr media
What I do not agree with Watson entirely, is whether or not his respect for Hitler was genuine, as Bock needed to maintain a positive relationship with the Fuhrer to get what he wanted, or else Halder would limit his actions left right and center, which exasperates von Bock.
It is said that Bock was initially heavily implicated in the 720 plot, only to be spared because one of his former staff commented that “Bock has been very respectful of the Fuhrer”—the thing is, that officer cited this according to his older memories, not knowing that in his retirement, Bock demonstrated how hateful he was of Hitler’s guts (source needed).
Personal comments and private sentiments are so lacking in this diary that I believe Bock was secretly socially awkward-- yet he was not afraid to make other generals awkward with him. He only regarded other generals as parts of his professional military machinery. However, he didn’t seem to hold any grudges-- I mean, the Kluge-Guderian kind of negativity, hating other generals and trying on colleagues' career destruction all the damn time.
Basically, people agreeing with Bock = a happy Bock; people not agreeing with Bock = a angry-crying emoji Bock. He also uses simplistic language like “beautiful lads”, “the soldier beamed at me", “the division is good but tired” that gives off impressions of him speaking whatever is on his mind. He keeps his diary content strictly professional, so when emotions do break out, these are oh so simple, pure and raw. Bock uses exclamation marks too excessively, a sign that he doesn’t know how to employ elaborate words to communicate how he feels.
When he laughs, he laughs; he laughs at the paranoid patients' wild antics; when he's upset, he's upset, saying "Schlieffen turns in his grave!" because "I am not allowed freedom further eastward!" It pains me to see he say things like "The misery those fleeing the war is terrible", "frightful misery of the refugees, but what can I do?" The helplessness in Bock's voice is so astounding when his personal interests, his character and the war context are taken into consideration.
It is so beautiful when a butcher knife weeps tears of blood.
Tumblr media
If the emotion runs even deeper, he becomes quieter and more reserved. The readers have no chance seeing his softer spots. Who could blame this hardened soul for never writing anything about his stepson, whom he dressed up in little sailor outfit and took to see a military parade, so full of hope that the boy could be like him, or his grief when his family died?
11-9, 1939, Fedor von Bock very briefly and vaguely ordered von Kuchler to convene a court martial. Through the editor's archival supplement, we see that the SS artillery members killed lots of Polish Jews, and Fedi was NOT pleased. This informs me that when Fedi lingers on the "positive notes" about Hitler, it was probably artificial. Either massive Jewish civilian death really shook him, or he deliberately hid this court martial incident from his readers-- of whom there were certainly Nazi personnel.

Lindon Evening Banquet by Roberto F. Castro
. · ˚ ✧ ★ 𝕎𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕖𝕣𝕝𝕦𝕤𝕥 ★ ✧ ˚ · .
INTRODUCTION.
Hello! I am Syn. I have a little over a decade of writing and role-playing experience under my belt. As a role play partner, I would consider myself passionate, communicative, enthusiastic, and friendly.
⋆ My writing style is advanced literate/descriptive novella and I typically write in the third person, past and present tense. I write anywhere from a paragraph (5+ sentences) to multiple paragraphs, and I will generally match my partner's posts. The word count for my replies typically sits between 400 and 900 words, but may at times exceed beyond this range.
⋆ M x F is preferred pairing-wise, and the gender of my character is of little consequence to me, as I am comfortable writing both sides of the coin. I am LGBTQ+ friendly.
THE SEARCH.
With that out of the way, I should mention that this ad is strictly for LOTR/Tolkien-verse RP. Yes, I have read the Silmarillion. I will absolutely not be touching Rings of Power content, so I politely request that you refrain from asking.
EXPECTATIONS.
⋆ I will under no circumstances write with anyone under the age of 18. Minors do not interact.
⋆ Communication is a plus, I like to be in the loop. I will do my best to inform you if, for whatever reason, I cannot reply for a period of time. I expect a role-play partner to do the same. Real life always comes first! I am pretty flexible regarding RP partner availability and reply frequency.
⋆ I will not respond to anything shorter than 5 sentences as I need something to work off of in order to maintain and foster my muse. Minimal grammar/spelling mistakes please. That being said, I will not have an aneurysm if you make mistakes.
⋆ I prefer writing in discord. For the sake of my (and your) sanity, I request that we create a discord server for our role play in order to maintain some sense of organization.
⋆ Please collaborate with me! Approach me with any ideas/questions/concerns and we can work something out. I love to brainstorm, as well as create and share head-canons, one-shots, playlists, edits, and aesthetics.
⋆ My work will often contain mature themes; As such, I expect to be made aware of any and all triggers so that I may be conscious and respectful of them. Do not be afraid to advocate for yourself.
⋆ Plot over porn. I am more than willing to write explicit content, but I prefer to go with what feels natural for the characters and the flow of the story, and work it in that way rather than slapping in sex scenes willy nilly.. I generally sit within the 80/20 to 70/30 story to smut ratio range.
⋆ I will allow power play if specifics are discussed beforehand. I will never endeavor to control your character without your explicit permission.
⋆ I prefer original characters to have some sort of character sheet that I can review in order to get to know them, accompanied with some sort of realistic visual reference (realistic art or picture.)
PAIRINGS I'M LOOKING FOR.
⋆ Lord of Rivendell (Elrond Peredhel) x Elvish Wife OC (Alternatively, Celebrian is fine)
⋆ The Elvenking (Thranduil Son of Oropher) x Elvish Wife OC

Your ‘Notte Stellata’ is honestly super awesome. It’s one of the best written fan fictions that I’ve ever read for sure.
You are SO talented at plotting! This story was planned out and written so, so well. I can really tell that you’ve put a lot of thought into this story.
And you did the period justice! My gosh, that is honestly so rare! But you did such a good job — I think that’s super cool.
You are SO GOOD at characterising Kokushibo. I think that was honestly the best characterisation of Kokushibo that I’ve ever seen! I know it sounds silly, but I almost lament the fact that I’m done with this story because I’d love to go through this journey again with fresh eyes.
I must say — you have used some of the most interesting and stimulating descriptions that I’ve seen in a long while. I had to pause multiple times while rereading and reread passages because you’ve included such gorgeous thoughts and imagery.
And the way you write dialogue is phenomenal. Can I just say — isn’t it so cool that you’re able to tackle almost any character from ‘Demon Slayer’ and pay them due deference? You make them sound like themselves. I thought that Tengen was such a clever addition to the story.
But also… when I saw Kagaya and read his dialogue, it just cemented in my mind the fact that you really get these characters. Because yes, that is exactly what he would say.
Your story really bumped up Kokushibo to the top of my favourite characters from ‘Demon Slayer’ list. I think it’s incredibly cool how you gave him more depth and made him almost even more interesting than he is in the source material.
You are an awesome writer, truly. I would sincerely love to read more works by you if you choose to share your works with us.
Thank you for allowing me the chance to read and think about your story!! You are AWESOME! Wishing you only the very best.
Thank you for your lovely words! It's wonderful knowing that you enjoyed Notte Stellata!
Staying true to the time period is something with which I was especially insistent; it was important that the Reader's mannerisms and personal beliefs reflected fleeting, but pivotal time period that was the Taisho era. I'm a huge history nerd, so doing research for this fic was a lot of fun! And most of all, I'm glad that it helped with establishing a sense of realism throughout the fic.
Likewise, it's glad knowing that I captured the characters and their dialogue properly! In the case of this fic, which basically poses the question, How would Kokushibo, as the first Upper Moon, respond to falling in love with a human Slayer?, it was fun dancing the delicate line between personal headcanons and going back to the manga to understand how Gotouge would have done it. The same went for Ubuyashiki as well — although it was tempting to have him dismiss the Reader from the Corps, it seemed much more apt for him to do something entirely different from what the Reader expected.
And with that, the dialogue came in very naturally; I was initially concerned about sounding too Joss Whedon-ish, since Tengen and the Reader were quite quippy with each other, so I needed to make sure that there was an element of sincerity and honesty with these two older members of the Corps.
Lastly, I'm delighted to have bumped Kokushibo on to the top of your list of favourite KnY characters! He's my definite favourite for sure, and I think he is such a complex character that is often reduced to his worst aspects. In that sense, the Reader was a proxy for him to reexamine those human parts of himself that he gave up too easily in the pursuit of power and strength.
Thank you once more for sending this ask and for your kind, thoughtful review! I will definitely be writing more in future, with a Muzan fic in the works (though nothing too official), and I hope to do as well, if not better, in that piece. All the best to you too!
xoxo, V ♥️

APRIL 2024 WRAP UP
[loved liked ok nope dnf (reread) bookclub*]
Death in the Spires • Heartstopper Vol 4 • Heartstopper Vol 3 • To Marry an English Lord • The True Queen • (Heartstopper Vol 2) • Fun Home* • (Arabella of Mars) • I’m Glad My Mom Died • (Sorcerer to the Crown) • And Then There Were None • Vassa in the Night • Queen of the Night • The Other Significant Others • Most Ardently • The Reformatory • The Book of Love
Read: 14 (10 audio, 4 print, 3 DNF)
The Other Significant Others (5 stars)- I've been anticipating this one ever since I first heard about it and it didn't disappoint! Not only does it tell the stories of people in close, non-traditional relationships, it also talks about marriage, raising kids, and aging, and it was all incredible. I've recommended this in the tags of so many posts and I need y'all to read it.
Queen of the Night (3 stars) - I've heard this glowingly recommended. I liked the author's story in the Sword, Stone, Table anthology. The events in the book are incredible! I should have been fascinated! But I was so bored! Part of it was that the mystery/thriller element in the description - someone has written an opera based on the main character's scandalous secret past, who could it be? - was extremely oversold, most of the book is recounting said past events, and we don't really dive into the present mystery until the very end. I've read similarly slow books so I don't know why I didn't like this, but I wish I'd dnf'd it. I'd recommend you try The God of Endings by Jacqueline Holland instead.
Vassa in the Night (4 stars) - this one surprised me! It's YA, I've heard pretty mixed reviews, and it's been sitting on my shelf for a while - starting it, the VERy in-your-face YAness almost threw me off but I'm very glad I stuck through it. I live for magic and fairy tales being dumped into modern times, and the really smart thing about this book is that it keeps a very tight focus (no space for the larger worldbuilding to fall apart lol). We've got a morally-grey magical doll companion who's a kleptomaniac and will eat you out of house and home, Baba-Yaga and her 24-hour convenience store on chicken feet, her disembodied hand assistants, weird guy on a motorcycle, and oh yeah, if they catch you stealing they'll put your head on display (and they're not above framing you to do it). Yes this is perfectly normal, why do you ask? I'm not saying it's perfect, but I had such a good time!
And Then There Were None (4 stars) - my first real attempt at Christie! I did enjoy listening to this, enough that I think I'll try some other Christie, but it wasn't entirely to my taste. I prefer having a detective figure in the story to follow, and the "reveal" after was disappointing.
Sorcerer to the Crown (3.5 stars) - this was a reread, and I definitely liked it a lot less for some reason this time? Maybe it was changing formats, but I love a historical fantasy romp and this should have been right up my alley! The True Queen (4 stars) was much more enjoyable, so maybe it was the characters, maybe it was the rereading itself. I think this might be my sign to call it quits with Zen Cho.
I'm Glad My Mom Died (4 stars) - this isn't really one I think I'd have ever picked for myself even though it got popular, except that my book-club friend recommended it. I'm finding that I'm not really one for memoirs, but despite the heartbreaking contents this was very easy to read - largely chronological with short chapters, and the author is clearly aware that things were bad even when her younger self did not. I accidentally started this when I was also reading Fun Home, so that was a lot of bad-parent-memoir at the same time, oops.
Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic (4 stars) - I've been eying this one for a while and am glad to have gotten it on the list for book club! Deeply fascinating, if not always an easy read - the subject on one hand, but the density of the pages, the differences between the comic panels and the narration outside them, and the jumping through time that memoirs do sometimes made events hard to follow. I admit my favorite parts were seeing the different queer books Bechdel slipped into her illustrations (one that I'm reading right now even!).
Arabella of Mars (4.5 stars) - Y'all, we are sleeping on this book, I had so much fun! Here's to girls dressing as boys, sailing ships, steampunk space travel, and vibes straight from early sci-fi adventure novels. I can't believe I forgot about this and am just glad I picked up a copy at the library sale to make myself reread it. I do apologize for thinking this was YA (which it isn't), but further thoughts on that and the rest of the series will have to wait for next month.
Heartstopper Vol 2-4 (5/5/4 stars) - finally! I read part of the comic online ages ago, and read Vol 1 for book club the other month, but I finally got started on the rest of the series. I had definitely read through Vol 2 previously, but everything else was new to me. I had a good time, but Vol 4 was a bit of a(n expected!) downer, and the time jump in the middle ruined the flow a bit for me. I do have Vol 5 in my hands currently, and if I didn't have so many other things to do I'd be tempted to do a big Alice Oseman re/read.
To Marry an English Lord (4 stars) - I encountered this at not one, but TWO unrelated book sales before I caved and bought it. I enjoyed it! It's mostly a sort of overview/reference covering the period around the Gilded Age - the New York upper crust, the European Aristocracy, and the various societal events that lead to a pattern of marital exchange. Did I skim the bits where it just listed name after name after name? Yes, but! Highly recommend to anyone reading romances or general fiction set in the period, I really wish I'd read this before trying The Age of Innocence! (its also very funny how occasionally it makes references that make it very obvious it was written in the 80's lol). Pairs incredibly well with another book I bought at the same sale, The Divorce Colony by April White.
Death in the Spires (3.5 stars) - I love KJ Charles, but I've often felt that her plots and romances can sometimes be at odds - so I was very excited when she said she'd written a mystery! But I'm lukewarm about it at best. The campus novel portions were fascinating, and I'd have loved more of them. But Jem as our narrator just wasn't engaging for most of the book. I wouldn't say it's his fault necessarily, but he's not really a good detective, there are either no clues or they're just going in circles, and the promised attempts on his life just aren't happening. Once we hit the 2/3 mark, where we're on campus, have more characters together, and they're talking - that's when things got good! Maybe this will be be better on a reread, but for now my hopes are for some good fanfic. Would recommend more to the dark academia people rather than mystery fans.
DNF
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most Ardently (20%) - the vibes were very much, "here's my blorbos, I'm putting them in a Pride and Prejudice AU." Which is great, if that's what you want! It was not what I wanted alas. Biggest cons, the de-ageing of the characters and the generally modern YA/queerness. Pros, they did keep all of the other Bennet sisters! I was so tempted to keep reading just to see how Oliver and Darcy got together, but I knew I wasn't going to enjoy myself. Would have loved to see this presented as an original work rather than an adaptation, or as something hewing closer to the original tone and period of the novel.
The Reformatory (43%) - this was good, really! It's just that I'm only so-so on horror on my best days, and both story lines were sad and dark and depressing. I could have probably handled one or the other, but I wasn't really having a good time (that's not the right phrasing exactly, but you know what I mean). I had other things I wanted to read and it was a long book.
The Book of Love (6%) - I've heard multiple people sing the praises of Kelly Link, so while I wasn't really drawn by the description, I thought I'd give it a shot! I did, and it still didn't draw me in. Maybe I'll give it a try again someday, but I think I'll try her short fiction first.

DA Review Series - The Stolen Throne by David Gaider
Since I finished my original fiction novel at the end of February, I've started replaying the Dragon Age games and the long process of re-reading all the Media Tie-Ins. I thought, since I'm doing all of this, I might as well share my thoughts along the way.
I'm following this list that I made last year, if you'd like to follow along :). Now, onto the review!
Title: The Stolen Throne Author: David Gaider Publication Year: 2009 In-World Year: ~8:96 Blessed to ~9:00 Dragon (there are discrepancies) Verdict: Skip. There isn't any real lore value here, and it's mostly just teen angst wrapped in sexism.
Tumblr media
The Stolen Throne is a prequel to Dragon Age: Origins, which introduces us to teenaged Maric Theirin just after his mother has been assassinated. The book follows Maric and his friends over the course of about four years as they lead a rebellion to free Ferelden from Orlesian occupation. We also meet young Loghain MacTir and Rowan Guerrin – both important figures to the Ferelden we experience in DA:O.
Unfortunately, I don't have much good to say about this book. I first read it in 2011, and remember really liking it then. I was 21, and while a voracious reader, I was not a reader of much Fantasy at the time. I've grown a lot since then, and this book does not age well.
I tried to re-read it in 2020 and couldn't finish it. I tried again in 2023 and, again, abandoned it. But this year, while playing DA:O I was able to slog through it and FINALLY finish it.
So, why was it such a slog?
The writing is, uh, bad. Just, on a basic prose level, this feels like a rough draft. Adjectives and adverbs run rampant over this book. Descriptions are winding and don't always make sense. The amount of times I rolled my eyes while reading this book, y'all. It was a lot.
But, if the story had been good enough, I could have overlooked the bumbling execution. The problem is, the story isn't all that compelling. Yes, I expected the overthrowing of Thedas's most influential political force to be an exciting read. Instead, this book isn't so much about the politics of Thedas and the tolls of war, but about... love triangles? Quadrangles?
Without getting lost in the details, basically Maric is betrothed to Rowan, but Loghain loves Rowan. And Maric is in love with Katriel (which is a whole 'nother problematic can of worms) and cheats on Rowan. And Rowan... is upset about this, but I don't really know why because she doesn't love Maric. And she sleeps with Loghain, but also.... I don't think she loves him either? IDK, man. None of it made sense.
And that is the crux of this book. So little of the characters' motivations made sense. And so much of the book hinged on those supposed motivations and feelings. But they didn't make sense – at least, not to me.
Sadly, there wasn't much lore to be gained from this book, either. we learn a little about Maric and his mother Moira. A little about Loghain, but even what I did learn didn't make me more sympathetic to him. He's still a dick. In fact, the only characters I did like were Rowan and Katriel, both of whom are dead by the end of the book. Neither of whom had any real power over their own lives. In fact! When Katriel attempted to flex what little power she did have, Maric KILLED her. And he supposedly loved her??? No. Uh-huh. And Loghain basically goaded him into it, so they both suck.
The one good thing from this is I think it does make the Orelsian hate in DA:O more believable. When the Warden comes on the scene, it's only been ~30 years since Maric and Loghain ousted Orlais. People are still living and working who fought in these battles, who lived under occupation. So, that's some good context. Don't think we needed over 400 pages of misogyny to get it, though.
David Gaider wrote two more Dragon Age novels, so wish me luck. I think I'm going to need it...

Shoujo Cosette: My Final Review
Tumblr media
Well 1 week and 52 episodes later I've finally finished watch this wonderful series and I'm going to say it one more time, if you haven't seen it yet, it's well worth watching, I highly recommend it.
What can I say that I haven't mentioned yet in my mini reviews, not much to be honest. However I will try and add to what I've already said in my previous review posts and also probably, no definitely repeat some things I have already said, because in short I loved this series and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Episodes
52 episodes each one just shy of 25 minutes long. This is from what i can find out the longest adaptation of Les Mis that's ever been made. Early on the story is told from the point of view of Fantine and Valjean (at this point he's masquerading as Mayor Madeline) then also it starts to tell Cosette's story from her own experiences. It's not a long haul if you can say binge several episodes a night. Yes some of the episodes drag a bit and elongate the story a bit more than is needed but overall it's worth it. There are some cheesy bits in the story but you'll get over that I've no doubt.
Characters
All canon characters are there and some new characters pop up on this epic journey. Valjean particularly was depicted perfectly imo. Javert his image didn't match the canon description and he was a bit on the thin/gaunt side for my liking but the rest of his character is depicted perfectly. up until the later episodes when the story deviates from Javert's canon story. Fantine's story is also changed slightly, though not in a manner that doesn't fit with the story. Monsieur and Madame Thenardier are as despicable, deplorable, abusive and evil as ever. their story later on in the series is also changed slightly. Cosette's story deviates from the canon story at a few points throughout the series however it's not that destracting that it pissed me off. Cosette also has a personality and does things and she's a bit naughty on occasions too not sire if those moments are canon yet but I'll find out soon enough. I know some things would have had to have been changed/toned down to be suitable for younger audiences/kids which is who this series was originally aimed at. Gavroche's stroy is also a bit different from the canon story too especially later on. The introduction of a pet dog for him and Cosette during Cosette's time with the Thenardier's is also a sweet addition to the story. Everyone else's story is pretty much as close as damnit to the canon story. So I see no need (for me) to complain about it.
Changes To The Canon Story
In my humble opinion these changes were acceptable very nicely slotted for reasons which I assume were to make things less traumatic for the younger audiences this series is aimed at. A number of characters get their later canon stories changed in what to me offered a different take on the story not just for kids but that would also appeal to some adults as well though I have read reviews around the net and some people did complain about the changes.
You Will Cry
I did, several times most notably from the point of the battles at the barricade onwards. Stock up on tissues because you will definitely need them. But it also made me cry with happiness as well.
My Final Comments
I'll definitely binge watch this series again because I loved it. Considering this series is aimed at kids/younger people I, as a 48/almost 49 year old I rate this highly even with the changes and the length. I'm so glad that I watched this series, it was well worth it and there wasn't a single point when I was seriously disappointed with it. Although it irked me a tiny bit that Javert didn't age at all throught the entire series. Get it watched, imo you're missing out if you don't.
