I think that one thing people fail to understand is that unsolicited literary criticism coming from an online stranger who is reading with no knowledge of what the authors intended goal is, is not going to be received the same as say: the authors beta reader or friends who know what the authors intended goal and has the sufficient knowledge and input to help the author reach that desired outcome.
"But I'm only trying to be helpful" How do I know you have the knowledge and literary skill for you to be able to actaully do that when we don't know each other and you are essentially a stranger to me? Are you applying this criticism based out of personal biased experience and desire to see the story or characterization be driven in another direction or tweaked, or do you know the author's intentions for the character? If the story is incomplete, are you basing your criticism of a character on the incomplete narration with only partial information available of them or are you building up a report until the story's completion? Did the author provide you with the information needed to make a fully informed criticism?
Have you discussed with the author what their plans are or are you assuming them based off the narration, especially if the narration is proven or implied to be unreliable or missing key points of the plot? Are you unbiased enough to help them reach their desired outcome for the characters and story regardless of your personal feelings towards the characters/antagonists and setting? Can you handle being told your specific input isn't wanted because you're a reader and/or have no written anything relating to their genre or topic? Do you understand and respect that the author's personal experiences might influence their writing and make it different than how you would have done it personally? Do you understand if an author only wants input from a specific demographic relating to their story?
If it's for fanfiction or other hobby media, are you holding a free hobby to a professional standard? Are you trying to give criticism because you feel like the author has produced 'subpar job performance' of their fic? Are you viewing their work as a personal intimate outlet or something that must conform with mass media? Are you applying rules and guidelines when the fic is shared for simple sharing sake? Is your criticism worded appropriately and focused on the parts where the author has requested input on rather than a general dismissal and or disapproval?
Have you put yourself in a place where you assumed you have the input needed for the story to evolve better, or have you asked what the author needs and what they're having trouble with? Can you handle having your criticism rejected if the author decides their story doesn't need the change and not take it as a personal offense against your character? Are you crossing that boundary because you think you are doing the author a favor? Are you trying to be helpful, or do you just want to be?
I think sometimes when people hear authors go 'please don't give me unsolicited writing advice or criticism' they automatically chalk it up to 'this author doesn't want ANY constructive feedback on their stuff at all' and not "i already have trusted individuals who will help me with my writing goals and- hey i don't know you like that, please stop acting so overly familiar with me'

Palestinian fundraisers to donate to
Second list of fundraisers (share this one as well)
Hello all, here are some Palestinians who have currently reached out to me to share their fundraisers. I put together both posts in one so I can edit the amounts donated regularly.
Please take a moment to read their stories, share and donate if you can.
Some conversions for Swedish krona (SEK) as some GFMs use it: $1USD = 10.36 SEK $1CAD = 7.61 SEK €1 = 11.43 SEK
Fundraiser currently unavailable, but blog is still up. I'm keeping the link up just in case the issue is fixed

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of reposting of artwork in the helluva boss fandom, idk if it’s people who are new to tumblr/the fandom but there’s one thing I want to make clear:
Reposting - the act of uploading a pic of someone’s art to make a new post - is NOT a good thing to do. Reblogging - I hope we all know what that is - IS a good thing.
IF you want to repost an artwork, because it’s only on Twitter/X or for other reasons, approach the original artist to ask for their permission. If you don’t receive permission, DON’T POST. If you do receive permission, CREDIT THEM WITH NAME AND/OR LINKS.
If you don’t know who the artist is, use reverse google images or saucenao.com to look for a source. Can’t find the original artist/source? DON’T POST THE ART.
A work of art posted without permission or credit is considered stealing, because others will believe YOU made it and therefore YOU will receive the credit, which is unfair. Artists put a lot of time and work into their pieces and deserve to be credited/respected. Putting “credit to the owner/creator” under the art is not enough; other users still won’t be able to find the actual creators and it’s no proof that the artist gave permission for their work to be posted elsewhere than their own blogs/accounts.
I know many people find pictures on Pinterest, but the artists often aren’t credited there either. Don’t upload these artworks if you don’t know who made it.
Hope this helps!

Welcome to Charlie's Summer Commissions ✨️Raffle!✨️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know I like to keep things exciting for you guys, so this time around I will be offering a commission raffle. To enter, simply donate to my ko-fi and leave your @ in the comments!
https://ko-fi.com/charlunday
Every dollar = 1 entry, and after donating, you can reblog this post for 1 extra entry!
I will be taking the final tally on August 19th, and however much money we raise will be the parameters of the commission piece. (If I somehow raise more than I would do for one normal commission, the pool will be split into two and there will be two winners!)
Remember, I don't just do THG pieces! Any fandom is welcome.
Even if you can't donate, I want to thank every one of my followers, and everyone that has ever supported my work. You all mean so much to me. Whenever I feel like I'm not good enough to be a professional artist, you remind me that's not true.
And if you don't feel like waiting until August 19th, my regular commissions are still wide open!
Good luck everyone, and may the odds be ever in your favor!

commenting "what if i'm broke" under a post about donations to help people evacuate gaza literally won't accomplish anything. no one is forcing you to donate if you absolutely can't. as i've said before, giving just $5 helps, but if you don't even have $5 to spare, which is fair and a reality for too many people, especially young people, then you can still help by sharing campaign posts, to tumblr and any other social media platform you use. your voice is just as impactful as your wallet. using your voice to place yourself in a victim position on a post discussing the victims of an active genocide really isn't the punchline you think it is. "but what if i'm broke :(" then you can still push buttons on your phone. there is no excuse to be passive.
we need to stop waiting for the people with the really big wallets to help, because they've made it abundantly clear that they're not going to. politicians and celebrities won't do anything, but we still have to.
donate, share, speak up 🗣️🍉

i'm new here, and i see this repeating theme in a lot of posts, so i need to conduct a poll to see how widespread the sentiment is:
note from OP: as of making this post, i have only seen up to s3. normally on my blog i ask people to avoid spoilers in the notes, but as i am expecting this might cause some scholarly debate, i will be muting the notifications on this post, so you can (and should) discuss to your heart's content, including citing any source scenes to suit your needs!

So I know I've been posting a lot about Palestine fundraisers lately, and I know some of you may not have much to give right now. Totally understandable (and that's why we reblog), but I'd like to highlight a campaign that doesn't require much at all (at least not in USD):
If you're American, your dollar will stretch a lot here.
At first glance, you might be intimidated by the goal. 450K seems like a daunting milestone to reach. But keep in mind: This is in SEK, which converts to roughly a tenth USD. So in US dollars, the goal's really about 45K, which is pretty average for these fundraisers.
When you get to the donation page, don't freak out with thoughts that you might be paying too much. You're not. Literally just type in whatever you would have paid in USD and add a zero to the end. 1 USD = 10 SEK. So 5 USD = 50 SEK, 10 USD = 100 SEK, and so on. I believe it's this fear that's holding the campaign back from moving as fast as it could.
So if you're in the US and you're not doing great financially but you still want to help, this is the perfect campaign for you. And as of this post, it has under a fifth of its funding. Let's fix that, shall we?

Tbh I feel like if Kenny wanted to basically get ripped (more or less) to be a stronger Mysterion, I think he could do it. He gives the vibe of he can do just about anything if he's really driven to put his mind to it. Plus does he not give "guy that does chin-ups on makeshift bar in bedroom doorway to get stronger"??? I can't draw this shit we'll never know my true vision otherwise.
