My small election anecdote contribution this year: the booth I pre-polled at (like the literal cardboard booth) has some pencil graffiti on it from a previous voter saying “put the libs last, it’s where they put you” which is pretty based lmao
#auspol#I did actually put the even more cookey nut jobs like one nation and trumpet of patriots behind the libs in my preferences.#not like it’ll preference down that far#I love preferential voting it’s just you gotta decide from a bunch of candidates who is the worst of the worst lmao#I’m a below the line girlie and tbh I’m sad bc I’m now in a pretty safe seat AND bc it’s voting for a territory. there aren’t as many senate#candidates. only 14 for me to preference :(((((#my last electorate would have between 40 n 60 or so. I’d usually preference into the 30s#ah well. maybe territories will get more respresentation at some point. maybe#but happy election to everyone today!#I’m so sad it’s Antony Greens last election. gonna miss that guy. :’(

Poetry for ALL
Some personal anecdotes and a plea follow...
As quite a few of you know, I’ve been engaged in disability awareness and rights campaigning and other work since sometime in the 90s, so when I was given an opportunity to support and host an event dedicated to making performance poetry as accessible as possible in 2018, I jumped on it.

(image description in alt text)
Poetry for All is the brainchild (and heartchild, and soulchild) of Rose Drew, who I first met through one of Richard Tyrone Jones’s Utter events in London. She’s an extraordinary writer and performer, and a powerhouse of an events host and organiser. Within about 30 seconds of watching her on stage, I knew I wanted to be like her when I grew up as an artist. When she got in touch three years later to ask if I’d like to help out with what turned out to be the inaugural event, I threw myself into providing as much support as possible with enthusiastic abandon, and we pulled together a line-up which included the extraordinary performers Raymond Antrobus and DL Williams (“DeafFirefly”), both of whom I’d performed with before and was keen to see again.
Now, there’s a whole section on our new website about the history of the events where you can read the facts, but I want to say here that, personally, that first event in March 2018 (coincidentally on my birthday!) was an absolute eye-opener – seeing how poetry events could expand and develop the ideal of accessibility in ways I hadn’t considered. It was also extremely inspirational as I realised that, well, I was allowed to write about my disabilities. Seeing and hearing artist after artist sharing so much and so eloquently unlocked something in me that I didn’t even know I’d been repressing:
I’m allowed to be an openly disabled poet. I’m allowed to express my neurodivergence. I can tell my truth. 😱🤯
Bit of a culture-shock, but I owe so much to the poets and to Rose (and to Dave Wycherley, BSL interpreter extraordinaire – that’s a hard and physically/ mentally taxing job as it is, but to do that with poetry? on the fly?! breathtaking...) for helping me get to that starting point, knocking down the walls of my own internalised ableism.
So, apart from a paean to self-expression and why representation and finding tribe matters, and a screed of gratitude for new friends made and old friendships strengthened through the course of these events, why am I writing this? What’s with the hashtag? “Plea...?”
Well, so far, since you ask, all of our events have had local funding in York, where they’ve taken place exclusively so far. Rose applied for Arts Council England funding for this and next year for a tour comprising several venues and a host more disabled artists and BSL interpreters from various parts of the UK (all getting paid properly!), but we found out last week that we’d not got the money. Any of it. So our forthcoming event on 24th November in the gorgeous National Centre for Early Music is in jeopardy and, since the thought of Rose (herself a disabled artist on low wages) having to pay for this out of her own pocket was not to be supported, I threw myself at a plan of creating a (somewhat last-minute) Crowdfunder, so that we can at least pay for the venue, the artists’ and interpreters’ fees, the travel and accommodation expenses of those of us coming from out of town, and the costs of producing merchandise to sell. We’ll be producing an anthology in print and ebook form, as a joint publication between indie publishers Stairwell Books and Allographic Press. And, if we exceed our funding goal, there’ll be video and audio available of the event to boot!
We’ve created a frankly very exciting range of pledge rewards for people wanting to support us (all the way from £1 and £2 options, since money is tight, especially for disabled folk, right now, to more chunky ones like private mentoring, workshops, and a publishing package), and we’ve got three weeks(!) to raise our £1,500 to cover the shortfall from ticket and merch sales. Eeep! So, if you’re able to and would like to help us, we’d be ever so grateful. The campaign is here:
https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/poetry-for-all-2023-fundraiser
And if you have absolutely no funds to share with us at all, we’d be incredibly grateful if you shared on social media, with friends, on blogs, all of that!
Thanks for reading all this, and have a great day!

sometimes i think about how wild a mw2 movie would be if they just dropped soapghost right in the middle with no warning or marketing. like imagine it being beat for beat the exact same, it’s your typical military action movie, promoted as just another military action movie then after they get to the safe house, ghost has to patch up soap and he’s still out of it, overwhelmed by the betrayal and everything he’s seen and ghost needs to ground him and keep him in the present, to remind him that he’s alive and safe so he kisses him and they have sex. the tantrums and the rants and the “ReAl sOLdiErS aRen’t liKe ThAt”, god i can taste it and it’s delicious
#theres never any talk of a relationship or sexuality crisis its just this moment of humanity and comfort to bring soap back to himself#real any time you need me by thirteenbullets vibes#theyre not the type of men to have something as normal as a relationship#theyre just everything to each other they know that and its enough#ghost can be such a complex character if you let him#this guy whos rejected his humanity has buried himself and become a ghost#willingly digging himself out of the grave to stop soap from digging his own#like how are there not more explicitly homoerotic military movies that actually pull the trigger (heh) on the homo part of the eroticism#you know how if movies have even a hint of queerness they wring it out for every drop of respresentation they can get#theres a hundred articles and its mentioned in every interview and it all journalists ask those actors#imagine it being a complete secret and everyone expects just a typical action movie#then boom battle buddy gay sex#like if it were a male and fenale character you would see that scene coming a mile away so why cant it happen with two guys#just doing it is the only way of normalising it#i still see men saying they act like brothers which is denial so strong even egypt is impressed#but imagine the general public expecting this manly man military movie then getting hit with the alone mission flirting and denying it#then getting smacked in the face with tender wound care and grounding love making initiated by the edgelord they were using as a self inser#coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt#soapghost#ghostsoap#ghoap#john soap mactavish#soap cod#simon ghost riley#ghost cod#cod mw2#we’re a team. ghost team

the way colorism is so ingrained in people on drdt twitter is absolutely foul. you literally got mfs lightening up slightly brown characters, tanned and even FAIRSKINNED characters. eden and charles are slightly brown (charles is lighter than eden and eden is slightly ashy) and they're still lightened up. teruko is only very slightly (permanently) tanned and shes so close to being fairskinned than brown, yet even she's lightened up LIKE EVEN HER SKINTONE ISN'T "ENOUGH"? smh im tired like get yall hands off of them... and rose too cuz i dont even wanna know how these people draw rose LMAO
#not like i expect the fandom too care. even the fandom ignore that hu is canonly plus sized#the drdt community is never going to have a discussion about this. art of these characters being lightened receive support so#ill just. keep rolling my eyes and sigh. im tired#i think that eden's one of the few characters who adds to representation of brown skinned characters in media#that is dangan related... which is good bc most of the (only very very few) canon brownskinned characters are bad respresentation#edens skintone is the closest to mine (im slightly darker) and even tho she blasian and slightly ashy i felt kind of represented#just to think that people feel the need to lighten up her skintone is dissappointing :')#its not that hard to draw brown skin... in fact some art i see where these characters are light isnt RENDERED that much#so technically it wouldnt be that hard to draw brown skin since they wouldnt even need to render it#bad enough that dr is colorist and racist.. its sour to just take away respresentation that the canon game did so poorly

If you don't mind I have a question about Islamic culture, I'm thinking about how Christians have statues of Christ and saints, other religions have statues of the Buddah and Hindu gods, it's a very common thing across many religions. Judaism doesn't really have that as far as I know but there aren't really prophets in the same way as xtianity. But Islam does have various prophets and significant historical figures, but I have never seen any statues made in their images. Is this a thing, not allowed or just not culturally uh, common I guess? Thank you :3
Islam has always pertained to a rather iconoclastic tradition and has shown fierce opposition to visual imagery in various forms, while some schools and branches of Islam are not as strict. Historically, alternative forms of art have been produced as a result. Indeed, Islamic art are traditionally non-representational in the form of Islamic calliography and Islamic geometric patterns, which is usually seen in mosque, shrines and various Islamic buildings.
The basis for the impermissibility of such visual imagery in the form of sculptures or carved objects representing a living being is rooted in Islam's strict monotheistic approach. The nascent Muslim community had to deal with the polytheist tribe of Quraish which worshiped idols in the form of sculptures. The Prophet Muhammed (sawas) showed disdain for such worshiping and exemplified their uselessness to the people by throwing them to the ground.
However, while sculpturing is pretty much a non-go, this impermissibility is not extended to art in the form of two-dimensional figures. While various schools of Islam differ in the opinion of drawing, not all of them are unanimous, this has allowed for Islamic art to take the shape of form in different ways. For example, Shi'a Islam allows visual respresentation through the use of a two-dimensional surface, such as a canvas, regardless of whether it is a living being or not. This is why you'll find that art of the prophets, imams and the holy ladies are pretty commonplace among Shi'a Muslims.
While sculpturing any object representing a living being is unanimously considered impermissible in all Islamic schools of law, art in the form two-dimensional paintings are not.

queer, furry and kink artists should form organized labor syndicates (i dont think a standard union would make sense i think something looser and more in the direction of direct economic solidarity, mutual aid and safety nets could do with political respresentation on top of that as a secondary thing)

Other than math the only class I think Curly ever completely excelled at was his second grade art class, not because his stuff was great or anything but because Curly's painting that was just various types of mud splashed across paper was 'free spirited' and his lumpy ass sculpture made of play dough and a handful of Angela's hair he yanked out at recess was 'a true respresentation of his feelings' and basically the teacher was batshit and liked Curly's batshit insance creations (Pony only got a B in that class because the teacher thought his art was too 'restrained' and he needed 'to get more in touch with his feelings'. Curly still brings it up to this day because Pony gets so fucking mad and goes on a rant about the teacher
its even crazier bc curly was prolly putting bugs in the classroom and on that teachers desk and chair and that teacher somehow DIDNT hate curly like???? and pony will always bring up the fact that that teacher let curly get away w WAY too much
the convos just go
“yea that teacher loved me man”
“U PUT BUGS IN THEIR DRAWER IDK HOW OR WHY THEY DID”
tim still has some of curlys works tho and pony rolls his eyes when curly shows them to him

Alastor x [insert character]
heres my problem with this stuff ^^^
!!! ALL OF THIS IS MY OPINION !!!
• Alastor is cannomically aroace. and incase someone doesn't know what that means it means he doesn't as in does not have any kind of physical nor romantic attraction to anyone. [edited this bc someome corrected my definition]
• people shipping him platonically is fantastic! but romantic is just not going to happen.
"Oh but people ship non-cannon ships all the time!" "oh but you ship huskerdust. what if that never happens???" well first of all angel and husk are not canonically aroace. angel is cannonically queer and husk is pan. Alastor however is cannonically aroace. its not that its not going to happen in the show its the fact that aroace people hardly ever get representation in media and the hazbin fandom has been taking the respresentation Al brings away by saying and/or drawing alastor×lucifer (or alastor×vox) fanart ESPESCIALLY NSFW stuff.
Not to mention aroace people get the MOST hate even from other LGBTQIA+ people. people genuinely dont understand how someone could just not have romantic and sexual interest in anyone so people just thing "oh they want to be different." It's just gross to see the fandom taking about a character that is very open about not being sexual so heavily sexualized by a fandom that is supposed to be inclusive. that should count for alastor being aroace.
edit: to be clear im not generalizing. im speaking specifically about al. in the show he is very clearly not interested in anyone romanticall or sexually. im not speaking about aroace people as a whole. ik its a spectrum. im saying specifically alastor is not romantically attracted not sexually attracted to anyone. im saying that its wrong to take away that kind of representation from the people who do feel the same as alastor.
also the only reason i feel like this is an issue is because by sexualizing alastor specifically you are erasing his sexuality (or lack there of) its not that "oh but if Viv says hes aroace he is and we cant change that" its the fact that canon and fanon are different, however fannon can blur the line of what canon and not for newer fans of the show. thats how fandoms work. like people in creepy pasta are always like "omg ticci toby <3 waffles and hes so silly and hot ^_^" but hes actually a traumatized emo kid who brutally offed his dad then lit his neighborhood on fire. or like sally face fans white washing travis. hes native but still a lot of fanart has him pastey asf.
