He hates it when he starts sweating, it makes his body feel all sticky and uncomfortable 

He hates the color Harelquin green and despises the color Fuchsia purple, but loves the colors Chinese violet and tea green

He’s actually the son of a concubine/mistress and was quite close to his father (the late Emperor)

Despite this he has no intention of taking a concubine or mistress

His favorite food is filet mignon 

His favorite dessert is smoking bishop (a British dessert from the 18th or 19th century)

It comes in two shades, one has a yellow center which fades into orange at the beginning of the petals which then fades into a light red and has splashes of light blue in it, and the tips of the petal are a dark shade of pink

The second version has a dark shade of purple center that fades into a light purple near the edges, then it fades into a pink as the petals bloom and the tips are a shade of blue

Although, Dawnrising flowers are quite rare and he’s only found a handful, all of which he’s kept alive and taken wonderful care of them

He doesn’t actually want to be the Emperor, but he’s the only one left in his blood line and he’s not one to forsake responsibility 

He adores cute fuzzy animals and has a pet cat (it’s a tiger), it’s quite big though and has to be kept outside

Many women have tried to win the Emperor’s heart, but he has turned them away and will continue to do so. 

This has caused speculation about the Emperor’s sexuality, some assume he’s into guys, but the truth is he doesn’t care about the gender as long as they have a respectable personality (also he just really wants to marry you)

He’s a very good dancer and favors the tango

When it comes to cuddles, he prefers to wrap his arms around whomever he’s cuddling and then lay on top of them (no idea why, of course this doesn’t mean he’s against being the little spoon when cuddled)

He gets bored rather easily and gets irritated just as quick

Despite his friendly personality, he’s actually quite cruel and temperamental. If someone bugs him too much or resists him too often, he’ll lash out and severely punish them

If the person he loves doesn’t reciprocate then he’ll wait a little for them to come to their sense, but if it takes too long then he’s not above kidnapping and murder

He has a reputation for being a monster on the battlefield, it’s said that he’s killed entire armies of opposing forces before (of course, his reputation could never live up to yours, you’ve got far more experience in battle then him)

He has a thing for really strong people and if the person he’s perusing has some muscles, well, let’s just say they should expect an onslaught of perversion and flirtatious remarks/touches 

Although, if the one he loves Isn’t particularly strong, he doesn’t mind and will still love him

His favorite color is Liserian Pink

He likes watching the middle class performers do plays, actually he likes to watch plays in general and operas

He’s visited many places on Ilasatra and his favorite place to visit is Rais (the equivalent of china in this world)

He’s enjoys learning about other cultures and heritages, his own is a bit messy and he doesn’t like thinking about it

He hates his grandfather and doesn’t care for his grandmother 

He never really cared for his siblings, except for a little boy named Frederick those two were quite close and up until little Fred died (at the age of twelve) Adonis spent a lot of time with him

He likes to read books on myths, particularly Terres myths (equivalent of Greek myths in this world)

He has a journal that he uses to write down every dream, every thought and everything about you, actually he has many, many journals. :)

a double commission feature for @ornatehorizon, I designed him a wolf and a blue carpenter bee character! It was very fun making these c^^

creative process:

Ornate gave a lot of direction for both designs. first was the wolf which he had a specific color pallet and hex values for me to work with, this meant I had to switch from my usual CMYK environment to a standard RGB one

starting out, he was happy with what I had going already but also was thinking of him being more fat, and asked if I could sketch both body types to compare

so I did that! plus, cause I was felling like a geanius, I offered two versions of the fat alt to pick from, one having boy boobiess

and he was a big fan! c^^

Ornate ended up asking if I could render both versions, since I already usually did two renders for design refs, I said yes

now for the bee!

for this one Ornate didn't specify a body shape either but I had a good idea of what he'd want already, I wanted to give it a anatomy inspired by Leavanny, in how the abdomen extends from the torso, and how the legs are attached from it, plus some other style traits

He really liked it! after a few edits, such as a larger abdomen and wider body, we were ready to go for the ref

the hoodie was also part of the character prompt, including the print on it, the ref Ornate gave had a jp script on it, but I took the liberty to make it flowers instead for the sake of making it easier to draw

he also had two different shades of blue for the hair for me to pick from, I ended doing both, the lighter color being the bang c^^

why do so many art programs and even like color customizing applications online go out of their way to hide hex code colors like how does that make sense. it's so much more convenient to have it with everything else. why does csp have RGB, HSV, and CMYK sliders for your workspace but no little tab that says the hex code of the color you're picking it's so ANNOYING

guys will create a beautiful hex code palette in procreate unaware their throwaway brush testing canvas is set to rgb only to realise that they use cmyk for their canvases in case they ever want to print anything and apparently those words mean things so when they go to actual canvases to draw selecting those colours from the palette bar thingy means NOTHING and everything looks YUCKY

here's a speedpaint of that asheiji artwork:

my painting is nothing refined! i get a sketch going on my first layer. the sketch is semi-clean (i erase and clean up guidelines as i go), but i will also write out notes on this layer and more strongly define shapes that i want to emphasize, like those little pouch lines under ash's mouth or the crease on eiji's cheek.

underneath this layer, i lay down my flat colors, and sometimes block in accent coloring (the blue and pink i've shaded with). i eyeball all of my colors from the rgb/cmyk wheel. no hex codes or value sliders, we die like men.

what i'll often do next is something i can only explain with respect to the procreate program: i will duplicate my flats layer > clip it down onto my sketch layer > turn the duplicated flats layer to the "hard light" setting > lower its brightness, increase its saturation, and add gaussian blur > merge it with the sketch. this is just a quick way to color my sketch lines, as one would color line art.

now that i have just one layer, i paint. you can check out how i do this in the timelapse. if you'd like to know what brushes i use, i'm not entirely sure how to upload them here on tumblr, but i'll give it a shot if you'd really like me to (FREE RESOURCES WOO 💪💪🔥💯)! the liquify tool is my best friend for tweaking proportions.

finishing touches are also super important to my painting style. here's where i adjust saturation, hues, contrast, and add details like freckles, eye shine, light source, etc. this process combines a variety of techniques and brushes which i could also break down in a longer, separate post. i definitely think this is what makes or breaks my artwork. (also, never doubt your ipad's gallery effect options!!)

Hello Blu

In my cycle of projects, I am back at designing your dragon, and I have more questions to pester you with

Specifically, I was wondering about uhhhh paints and colours. For the dot tattoos on the wings.

I could just... look it up. I mean, I did. But aboriginal folks and cultures aren't a monolith and so much of the information online treats them as such. And I don't want to know about vague facts, I want the specifics. So I'm asking you.

Are there certain meanings/guidelines to follow colour wise? Should I avoid using certain colours, or patterns? I have read that yellow is associated with womens bussiness, black with mens, and white with sorry business. I have... no clue if any of that is right.

Do you want me to use ochre paint colours exclusively? Or could I expand the colour palette to include more greens and blues? Or are you indifferent?

I know circles are a common theme, but are there other patterns?

I am also curious about the specific shades of colours you had applied to you during your ceremony. Could you use the colour picker below and give me HEX codes of the colours used?

Yes black is good! When I completed my Walk I was painted with a lot of black, blue on my face, neck, and shoulders, purple down my stomach, and red around my groin. White is used for corroboree but that's because it's actually tied to spirits, no sorry business. We just paint with white for sorry ceremonies like funerals because of the symbolism with spirits. Marrkidjbu paints his entire face white.

Colour symbolism as goes:

White: This is the most important colour to my mob, as Kakadu has the whitest clay in all of Australia. It's thought to be Ngalmudj's faeces and so this clay is handled very carefully so as not to disturb her. This colour is associated with Ngalmudj (coming directly from her) and with spirits, as it's the colour of stars. #fff7ed

Yellow: This is commonly associated with women's business but isn't purely associated with that. Yellow in ceremony that isn't women's business is used to symbolise the markings on the back of Ngalmudj, and so yellow is usually applied in long wavy streaks down the back. #f0c741

Black: Comes from coal and is used for men's business, but is also just the colour of people (because of the dark skin). It can specifically be for men, but it's also just colour used for people in general. This is the colour I'd use for any marking on the dragon. #121110

Red: Colour of war, but also ceremony and celebration, and motherhood. When I completed my Walk I had red painted around my groin to tie me to the blood of the mother who birthed me (I was painted with black streaks on my arms to symbolise the father who raised me as well). After my Walk the red paints were the only ones that weren't scrubbed away. When I got my first buffalo kill Jacko streaked my chin and cheeks with its blood to celebrate. After a successful hunt of a particularly difficult target animal I'll still streak my chin with the blood to celebrate and let it wear off on its own. It's a way of paying respect to the animal as well. Put up a good fight, mate. #6e2213

Blue/turquoise: I have no idea what this symbolises and I don't know where the Marrkidjbu got it as (far as I know) there's no lapis deposits in Kakadu. I've never seen blue used before or since in any ceremony, Jacko didn't get blue paint, and I'm inclined to think that the Marrkidjbu chose blue specifically because of what the colour symbolises to me. Definitely came from some kind of stone as it was a grainy powder. #0c5f6e

Purple: No clue where the Marrkidjbu got this neither. He only used is as a blend for the blue on my chest to branch down to the red at my groin. I have no idea what it symbolises, it anything. #493f5e

As for patterns, it's mostly lines, swirls, and dots. Care has to be taken not to break white lines as this is considered offensive to spirits and they'll come kick your arse. During corroboree when everyone's dancing about you keep an eye on your mates and if a white line is broken you apply ochre again to keep the spirits from getting aggro over the offence. My mob specifically uses white more than I reckon other mobs would and leans heavily into the spiritual symbolism of that over it being strictly relegated to sorry business. It's the colour you see most during corroboree.

As for Ngalmudj, it's generally accepted that she has kangaroo's ears, a downward-curved horse's head (think a highblood Arabian) with a fanged mouth, a snake body, crocodile-like scutes down her back, a spiked tail, and... tendrils? She's thought to have trailing tendrils. When I saw her she was just, quite literally, a giant snake. A beautiful giant snake, with iridescence that reflected colours I couldn't even possibly describe, but a giant snake. And her eyes were yellow, if that counts for anything. To me she was just a giant, very beautiful (what looked to be) white-lipped python, minus the white lips.

Meanwhile Jacko has a hypothesis that when Ngalmudj first appeared to humans, she took the form of a ribboned pipefish, which would explain a lot of her characteristics.
