dunno if this has been done yet but: airplane didn’t first become aware of peerless cucumber in the comments of pidw, he first saw peerless in the comments of a different web novel (that perhaps was one of airplane’s earlier works?) and so when initially drafting pidw he was inspired to write a villain just like cucumber bc “he’s MEAN MEAN for no reason, a literature snob, and pretends to be all high and mighty while looking down on others. also likes to kick down the little guy” and boom. sqq was born. cut to years later post-transmigration when sqh just casually drops this info with “lol i always did find it funny how much you hated the guy considering he’s literally based off you”

nepo baby scara finding out you dont like nonchalant guys and that he's lowkey been driving you away from the first time he talked to youu :(
like we all know canon scara and wanderer has like,,, err, attitude problems - with his clipped words and constant annoyed tone, yet he still manages to convey his actions and words that hold an underlying tone of care. we first get a glimpse of this during the sumeru interlude where wanderer talks to nahida and is further showcased in his banter with durin in simulanka. he's literally so nonchalant, when durin was asking for his permission, I remember his line being, "sure. whatever."
also speaking of scara in the canonverse, I just randomly remembered that he's a university student now. omg. and he also has that sumerian inazuman dual citizenship because I said so. he'd probably hate to go to inazuma, though :(
anyways ! back on topic, i think in the modern au, scara's attitude is a bit more laidback and chill as opposed to his canon. after all, kabukimono was originally a gentle soul before all the shit and trauma went down. with modern au scara, apart from his mommy issues that exist in every timeline, he only plays up his nonchalance as an act because of reddit. and when he realized that this shtick of his was NOT working whatsoever, he'd backtrack so fast it's insane. he won't do a complete 180 in such a short amount of time, because even he knows that it'd come off as odd to you. something something boiling frog and acclimation, in which he slowly eases you into seeing a version of him that loses those fabricated nonchalant qualities of him. like you'll just be chilling with him on the living room couch one day and realize just how far away that memory of him being so cool is now.

So... 90s Kon's nightmare in YJ98 01??
Confusing. I've read a bit of Kon's 90s solo comics as well... but maybe I just don't get it?
Pls someone who's read Kon's 90s comic solo chime in. LIKE HELP.
Tumblr media
it's supposed to be considered horrifying to Kon! He wakes up with a scream AND the box narrator is like, "The horror..." but I can't really see how this... would be horrifying in a meaningful way?
Im gonna TRY, but... it's not gonna be good.
Kon's back abruptly bursts out with fiery wings as he flies around metropolis alongside Superman.
He exclaims in confusion, only for Superman to chastise him.
It was inevitable, Superboy. That's what happens when you're so holier than thou...
....
So. According to nightmare Superman, Kon's fear is connected to being holier than thou. In comparison to who? And in what way? How does he try to prevent that fear???
And how are the wings a representation of fear? Is it using Icarus imagery? Or phoenix imagery?
It being icarus imagery is a lil weak...Because the wings are made of fire, not ON fire or melting from fire. But if it is,
Rather than a nightmare, it feels more like a weird dream for Kon but foreshadowing for the readers, especially when compared to Bart and Tim's nightmare.
With Icarus symbolism combined with the "holier than thou" expression: Kon is PLENTY prideful. He tends to think that his way is best, especially when it comes to what he considers "his specialty" when he deals with aliens and metas.
This is kept up throughout the next issues until the Apokolips—where his pride and ambition ARE LITERALLY his and his team's downfall via planetary crash. (Superboy 91, his letter to Sterling hurts so much, don't look at me)
So maybe his fear comes from confusion? Because he doesn't understand yet what this means for him.
Still... would that merit the narrator box to say, "the horror" and have Kon waking up in sweat with a shout in the next panel? CLEARLY, this dream stuff caused him horror!
Tumblr media
Young Justice
Although... I guess his expression could also convey some confusion.
The phoenix imagery is shaky too, but maybe this one is more about his own fear of his place in the world?
He doesn't even have his own actual name yet. I'm referring to him as Kon right now, but at this time... he hasn't even been given that name yet! And in-universe, he's been in the outside world for at LEAST a year now.
He can't even age any older with him being stuck at 16.
Even more...
With pheonix being symbolism for the natural cycle of life and death... at times representing a break in that cycle by also being a symbol for immortality...
Maybe this is alluding to that one scene in "Mother of all Battles" where he half dreams slowly becoming alone with even his shadow leaving him. There he quotes peter pan, "to die would be an awfully big adventure." (Don't look at me I'm so sad)
He came to be as a replacement in the case of Clark's death. He was supposed to be the second stage of Superman, the one that comes after Clark kicked it. But Clark is alive, and Kon is here. He was Superman for a little bit, but now he'll never fulfill the purpose of a new reinvented Superman leaving him stranded outside the natural cycle of life and death, doomed to never age or change.
So what happens to someone like him stuck in limbo? What happens if he develops this holier-than-thou attitude that will keep him from relating to those around him when his existence is already SO out of the ordinary?
He'll burn. He'll be betrayed by his own attitude that is slowly becoming more and more isolating.
All that being said...
None of it FEELS RIGHT? Pull any thread here, and it ALL comes undone.
And I know it's just a comic and writing slips a lot, but I want a through line for Kon's character development in my brain. The closest to that though, would be him outgrowing his pride, i guess? I didnt read core four's Titans run fully or the issue where he dies, so I know I'm missing things here.
He seems much more careful and subdued after Apokolips, but I'm not sure if that carries into Titans/the Superboy Prime deatg.
TLDR: I dont get what Kon's nightmare means. Help.

when do you think cressida realizes that eloise has completely forsaken her?
because before she found out penelope was lady whistledown she still thought she was the one to completely break their friendship by allowing her mother to write disparagingly about the bridgertons.
she did not know that eloise already knew who lady whistledown was when she asked for her help to write the column. she probably thought that eloise cut their friendship because her assuming the mantle of lady whistledown implies that she was the one who wrote ruinous things about her last season.
do you think she realizes that this was the reason for the fallout of eloise and penelope's friendship once she found out who the real lady whistledown was? do you think she realizes that eloise knew and that she was content to let her take the fall for perez hilton featherington? that she refused to help her knowing that she wasn't the real lady whistledown and knowing that she was desperate to escape her circumstances? and that she could not even spare her a sympathetic ear even if she didn't want to help and instead doubled down in drawing the line in the sand by cutting their friendship?
how would she feel about that when she finally works it out? when she realizes that eloise did not value their friendship as much as she did? that she probably never even valued her as a person capable of deep thoughts, of feelings, of dreams? (please don't get me started with the whole, "I did enjoy her at the start" line they gave eloise, my god that was cold)
do you think the show will even give the space for cressida to have these realizations in the next season or am I out of my mind to expect them to actually do cressida's character justice? (the show did love to laugh at her misfortune)
even if they never acknowledge this aspect of their break-up, cressida has a long carriage ride to wales to reflect on this betrayal (yes I will call it a betrayal, of their friendship and of eloise's character development in part 1) and god only knows what kind of mindset she'll end up having after realizing that she is truly alone, unwanted, unloved, and unworthy of help.
I hope at the very least that this informs her character in the next season and that we see her finding her purpose, her strength, and her place in or out of polite society. I don't ask for much. I just want her to have a good, loving, and happy life, with or without eloise.
I'll take creloise endgame if they actually manage to fix what they broke when they wrote eloise as OOC as possible so that they could have their penelope and eloise friendship as quickly as they could. I don't know about other people, but I do have standards and that includes EARNED reconciliations. I find it so cheap and lazy when writers just skip to the good part, like have some respect for your viewing audience.
I don't know why I'm still mad about this but you really shouldn't put a character that's doomed by the narrative in front of me and expect me to just leave it to die in a ditch.
I'll always root for the underdog, especially one that's been beaten down and publicly dragged through the mud for daring to escape their doomed fate.

the more i think about Oppenheimer the more disappointed i get because at its core it’s such an interesting story to tell. like the whole manhattan project catapulted the entire world into a new atomic era that we could never go back from whether we were ready for it or not. and the fallout from the project not only changed and devastated the lives of hundreds of thousands of people (including of course the victims in hiroshima and nagasaki + the people living in new mexico where they tested the bomb) and the continued generational trauma of the bombs. also just the general mass panic and fear that the Cold War instilled into every citizen in the states who were literally waiting to one day be just annihilated by a nuclear attack. the whole creation of the atomic bomb had so much impact on the world. so doing a deep character study of both oppenheimer and his colleagues on the moral ambiguity of their work in the project and the outcome of it is such a great movie concept. but the film didn’t feel like that at all. instead Nolan gave us the watered down story that he’s best at and spent almost three hours forcing us to watch whether oppenheimer had to lose his disneyland government fast-pass due to his communist ties or not (spoiler: he does) and how strauss doesn’t like him because he got his feewlings hurt once. all the other scientists and physicists were given one or two minutes of screen time and were really just names to a face. the actual bombs creation was given a sidelong glance and trivial explanation at best. and of course to tie it all off the main female side characters were either naked/having sex for 80% of their screen time or was given the character depth of a piece of tissue paper

juan always picking up on details about cesare that others tend to overlook. for instance he knows what cesare wants and likes to hear and sometimes even empathizes with him over certain things (at least on screen) that not even cesare himself is aware of. it's almost as if juan is very fond of him and wishes they could connect but he knows it will never happen because of cesare's contempt for his rash personality and weaknesses. so he overcompensates with the quarreling as a defensive mechanism to cope with his feelings of rejection...

The way beyblade deals with certain emotions is really good imo
Im mainly gonna focus on disappointment, persistence/determination, fustration, growth, pride, and many things like that.
Every blader wants to win, and when they don’t, they get fustrated. All bladers deal with it differently. Some(Shu) throw their beys on the ground and scream. Others(Valt) are filled with determination to try again and get stronger. Bell fell into a mini depression after Rashad broke Belia. Beyblade is also not scared to let the boys cry over broken beys, it’s their passion and spirit of their soul pratically, and it was destroyed while they had such high hopes of winning. This disappointment and frustration is similar to how people today feel about sports. Training and pushing their body to the limit just to lose and get mad at themself or teammates. This happens all the time in beyblade burst evolution, after Free left BC Sol, everyone went through a rough patch filled with disappointment and many quitting. Because of that, however, they were also filled with determination to get better, allowing them to become the number one team.
Teamwork and friendships. They’re really important in beyblade because friends help each other get stronger and teams work together to win. If there’s no harmony between bladers, they lose. If they fight, they’re going to lose. If they split, they’re going to lose. Beyblade teaches that sometimes you can’t always have your way and you need to work together and listen to each other to actually accomplish what you strive for. There are multiple instances within the series, Shu and Valt, Free and BC Sol, Basara and Bel’s group, Valt and Rashad, Aiga and his sister even.
Passion and limits. Aiga, shu, lain, Free, Rashad, and Phi are pretty good examples of being obsessed with power. All except Free had became corrupted with the want for power and ended up breaking people’s beys. I won’t add Bell to the list because he genuinely cared about the bey he accidentally broke, Ragnaruk and tried to help valt after damaging Valkyrie. I added Free because of his limits. He cared about blading so much that he had hurt himself on multiple occasions to be the best. In the manga he literally self harms to be mors serious and can we mention how he used to train with freaking boulders??? Now he’s better, in DB i haven’t seen him go crazy and he takes up meditation to focus instead of hurting (i talk abt it a bit more in my fanfic) Shu also pushes past his limits on multiple occasions that ends up hurting his shoulder. So beyblade says “know your limits” and “don’t pull a Free/Shu and get hurt because we’ll get sued”
But also the passion part that i got sidetracked from… it can be dangerous sometimes. Do i need to bring up Joshua’s obsession with Free? Sure, later. But Aiga’s passion compared to Valt’s passion is different. Valt wants to have fun, Aiga just wants to win. Along with Phi, Lain, Shu, Free, Rashad, etc. etc. but they don’t care about who gets hurt even if it’s themselves. Lain just fought to consume other people’s power. Aiga and Phi and Lain wanted to be number one so they broke people’s beys in the process. It’s really dangerous to lose oneself to that passion and it carries on to real life as you could genuinely get yourself or others hurt. For example, getting too passionate for sports and cheating just for a win like the Steriods incident in the olympics that couldve actually injured the athletes. So on and so forth…
With joshua, it’s not that deep. Bro jumped off a building cuz Free did. I mean yeah they had parachutes but are the two of them even licensed to use them???? Whatever it’s a cartoon and Joshua is like 20… HOWEVER FREE IS CANONICALLY 11 IN EVOLUTION AND BRO LIFTS BOULDERS?!?! I’M OLDER THAN HIM AND I CAN’T EVEN CARRY MY BACKPACK FOR SCHOOL- maybe i should start addinng boulders to my workout…
Pride. Mainly Free’s, Lui’s, and Bell’s. Do I need to say much other than it makes them underestimate others and makes them more upset when they lose because of the disappointment thing i talked about- Imagine having pride in your work where you won’t even look at another persons, then its forced in your face and you can’t get over how great it is? It really takes a blow on one’s self esteem and we can see that in Bell. Bell, the spoiled, powerful kid who was able to beat everyone until he couldn’t; until his bey had been broken and bursted by so many who were so much stronger. Just like Free getting bursted by Lui in evolution. They just got a huge reality check and blow to their ego that forces them to rethink nearly everything. “Maybe I’m not the best.” Free and Bell. “Maybe I should quit” Basara and Bell. or “Maybe there’s still a long way for me to go.” Almost everone in the show-
It all ties into the growth of the characters. Id say beyblade writes them pretty well considering at least half the characters disappear with the bext series. I mean when was the last time we saw Daigo and Ken- Evolution- which was four seasons ago… im glad we get to keep Free, but I also miss Cuza, Kris, Xander, Ken, Daigo, etc. Rantaro, our original loud blonde sidekick, hasn’t appeared yet in DB (then again im only halfway through-) but yeah, their characters are pretty good. Free went from bored to… still bored- but more respectful of other bladers. Aiga and Shu went through a whole corruption arc- Shu’s corruption arc actually allowed him to help Lain. (I think- i gotta rewatch) Valt became a lot more mature, he’s still a perfect amount of silly. Bell is a lot less spoiled, still spoiled, but less. Maybe a tiny bit.
Anyways that’s all my brain is able to do for now-
So yeah, beyblade is “not that deep” if ykyk-

I am very new to this fandom but I'm caught up thanks to the wonders available on the high seas so like
What if when Buck and Eddie go canon they immediately have sex and then the morning after Eddie says "let's get married"
And then Buck is like "... You know you can't get me pregnant right?"
And then Eddie explains that he doesn't want to wait and he wants Buck to be entirely a part of his life yadda yaddaand convinces Buck to say yes
But then they explain it to everyone else and then Chimney is like "... Did you get Buck pregnant? Do I need to go buy a shotgun?"

No but I'm still so mad at people believing Rayla's Arc 2 writing is misgogynistic. Just say you don't like female characters having actual development outside being girlbossy just say it.

I love my Lorcan Scamander so much, like... he’s a freak, he’s obsessive, he’s a nerd, he loves literature, he’s an misanthrope, he’s a hater, he plays d&d, he loves his brother deeply, he’s the personification of envy, he fell in love with albus and it ruined him forever, he’s a princess, he’s a bad person, he pretends to like black coffee for the aesthetic, he has no idea of how to comfort people, he considers scorpius his nemesis but scorpius barely knows who he is, he forced hogwarts to allow dogs as pets so he could bring his own dog with him, he’s the most likely to kill someone
