Kakashi and Yamato Highlights from Naruto Retsuden:
Sasuke's narration putting Yamato being Kakashi's “partner” in quotation marks like it's a euphemism!!
Kakashi going into his interactions with Yamato with teasing about what an excellent ninja he is but also very genuinely reflecting on how powerful, humble and steadfast he is.
Yamato saying, “And there you go again,” suggesting Kakashi complimenting him is a frequent thing, and then telling Kakashi that since he's older he's not susceptible to flattery anymore but immediately smiling anyway and the narration saying he's happy to receive the compliments.
Kakashi immediately identifying how Yamato feels when their first combined jutsu doesn't work as intended: “You’re worried. I am too,” Kakashi said in a light tone, perhaps guessing at Yamato’s anxiety.
The implication from Sakura that Kakashi and Yamato will be late to the mission because they are taking a group nap from training too hard: “I guess they were up all night practicing. Said they used all their chakra and their energy, so they were dead asleep until just a little bit ago.”
The little stretches they do together after the group nap: Kakashi and Yamato had also arrived, but they looked sleepy, like they had just woken up. They were putting their backs together, pulling on each other’s arms, doing stretches.
Naruto's complete faith that his teachers will fix everything, even as a full-grown man, amidst a hailstorm while they're thousands of feet in the air. “No, we’ll be okay,” Naruto said to the Uchiha couple in front of and behind him. “Master Kakashi and Commander Yamato said they would handle it! I’m sure those two can make it work somehow.”
Yamato grinning at how he and Gaara both describe Kakashi and Naruto respectively with “As reckless as ever.”

Concept 1 -
Sasuke: What is your problem?!
Sakura: My problem...?
Sasuke: Yes! You're always so damn annoying! Why?!
Sakura: ...
Sasuke: Come on, answer me! You talk, and whine all the time, why go so quiet now?!
Sakura: Drop it.
Sasuke: No! I want answers! You
can't be all secretive after all of
this, just tell me Haru-
Sakura: Do not. Say. That word.
Sasuke: ... Hа.
Sakura: Don't.
Sasuke: Ru.
Sakura: Sasuke.
Sasuke: No.
Sakura: ... *breathes in deeply before turning and starting to walk away*
Sasuke: Hey! Get back h-
Sakura: Shut up! For the love of god just. shut. up. I'm not answering your stupid damn questions, alright?! I don't have to and you can't make me.
Sasuke: ... We're supposed to be a team.
Sakura: Tell it to a mirror. What about Naruto, huh? Kakashi-Sensei? You don't really care about them, you just want to kill your damn brother. Stay out of my business
Sasuke: What?! Me stay out of YOUR business? What about all the times y-
Sakura: I did it to protect you, dumbass!
Sasuke: ... what?!
Sakura, facing Sasuke: I know damn well that you won't ever care for me for who I am. So I push you away, push you out with words and behaviour that'll drive you nuts and keep you out: You're the one coming back. You, no matter what I say and do, come back. You noticed when I was "out of it", then tried to cheer me up by acknowledging my smarts. You care about me, and keep coming back!
Sasuke: h-huh??
Sakura, grabbing him by the collar: You are ruining EVERYTHING!
Sakura: Just hate me like everyone else! It's not that hard!!! WHY CAN'T YOU TAKE THE DAMN HINT?!
Sasuke: S-Sakura, I-
Sakura: FORGET IT. *shoves him to
the ground* ... I'll stay out of your life, and you stay out of mine. No more games. No more pretending. We aren't friends, we aren't partners. We're teammates in a genin squad and that's it. ... mention this to anyone, and I'll kick your ass.

if you had to rank your fav naruto characters how would it go? love your blog btw!!
Hmmm... Complicated ask, anon.😂
[My personal life would be splashed here and there. Please bear with me]
Before 5 months, if you asked me about Naruto, my response would be ‘What the fuck is that?’. I absolutely had no idea such a treasure existed. For me, it started out like a blockbuster movie for the sheer variety of fights and the resulting emotions it brought within me.
However, there was a point I stopped and thought, ‘Wait a fucking second. This resembles my family dynamics. This person is speaking the exact same lines I spoke to my parents few years ago. This person’s situation resembles mine. Did this creator a time traveler?’. Naruto is the only piece of media that gave me such feel. Am not even exaggerating, believe me.
I really liked so many characters very much but am going to try my best to list just 10.
The only characters I hate in this series are Danzo, Sakura and Hinata in no particular order. Meaning, I absolutely cannot see any positives in them. They are crassy, cringey and completely detestable.
FAVOURITE NARUTO CHARACTERS
10. Killer Bee
Tumblr media
HaHaHa :-) Just seeing this character makes me smile and light-hearted.
It’s a pity that he is the only character who don’t belong to Konoha in my Top 10 rankings who was developed well apart from Gaara.
I loved him from Frame 1 onwards and I sincerely wished Team Taka should be packed up with their ass beaten up mercilessly. And that’s what happened.
Despite being a Jinchurikki, he never bothered to mind his surroundings and filled his heart with love from his over protective Brother alone was nice to watch.
He makes a great Tag Partner with Naruto next to Sasuke. No doubt.
The way Killer Bee treated Team Taka like some annoying flies and his cool and don’t care attitude was top notch. It’s not just with Sasuke, Bee treated Naruto with the same IDGAF attitude at first.
Best Moments:
Lariat punch to Sasuke (TBH, Sasuke deserved it. LOL)
Blasted off every member of Team Taka like a doll
His entire conversation and fight sequence with Kisame (Their banters and exchanges are way too hilarious)
His dynamics with his Elder Brother (God!!!! Whenever Raikage gives him an Iron Claw.... What a hilarious duo!!!!)
9. Hatake Kakashi
Tumblr media
Kakashi was my most favourite character when I started the series for simply being ultra-cool with the way he conducted the Bell-Test and taught a valuable lesson for those bratty kids in Team 7 called ‘Team Work’.
Best Moments:
Kakashi vs Obito Hand-to-Hand Combat (the best in the series)
Kakashi in the Gaara retrieval arc (His fight with Itachi & Deidara gave a good start to the shippuden series. His Mangekyou reveal was surprising).
Kakashi & Guy teaming up with Naruto to reveal Obito in a twisty and tragic way. (Kakashi couldn’t handle the truth at all and neither did I)
Kakashi vs Zabuza (That’s when I realized that the series was getting real serious)
8. Jiraiya
Tumblr media
Jiraiya was my next favourite to Kakashi during my Part 1 days. His open perversion and his entire dynamics with Naruto was one of the best things during the Chunin Exams arc. Taught Naruto about Chakra Control and about the way of a shinobi by just enduring. Naruto follows this even today.
Best Moments:
Kuchiyose No Jutsu training (Man, I never expected him to push Naruto off the cliff)
Rasengan Training (One of the best arcs in part 1 and it was soo satisfying to see Naruto punching his first Rasengan on Kabuto, He also acted like a quasi parent to Naruto... heartwarming)
Jiraiya Vs Six paths of Pain ( 6 vs 1 was always doomed but still he had the guts of a shinobi and plunged ahead)
7. Uchiha Madara
Tumblr media
Geez. What is there to not like him??
Everything he did was absolutely wrong ever since he broke up with Hashirama in a romantic way much similar to how couples break up in my country.
I am an Uchiha. You are a Senju. I wish it had been different.
This roughly translates to how 75% of lovers break up and marry someone else from their own clan in my state. (Duh!!!)
I am from XXX clan, you are from XXX clan. So we can’t love each other and my parents won’t accept this relationship. So let’s break up.
Alright, my first shipping couple in this series is HashiMada for this exact reason. (I started shipping SNS only after episode 478).
Just like Hashirama, Madara had an extensive build up right from episode 1 where Kurama compares Sasuke with Madara. And flashbacks from Itachi and Tobi spiked my curiosity and I wanted to see his face so badly ever since.
But the moment he landed gracefully like a diva in episode 321.... Woaahhhh!!!! He literally danced in the battlefield and ate up 100′s of guys with just a fucking Sharingan.
Best Moments:
Going Shirtless before 1000′s of people with Hashirama’s face, no less (Well, I literally went heart-eyed for 5 minutes. Sorry Sasuke, your ancester was way much sexier than you in the Orochimaru hideout and beats you by a million points).
Screaming Hashirama’s name like a cockatoo for 300 times even till the very end (Sorry Naruto, your obsession towards Sasuke for about 6 arcs is pale in comparison to Madara’s obsession which was established in just 6 or 7 episodes.)
I have 25 clones now. Do you want me to put Susanoo or not? You can’t answer. The answer is yes. (Man, his I don’t give a fuck attitude is just an alien level thing)
Openly admitting Only Hashirama Can Beat Me (Say what you will about Sasuke, Madara has no qualms about accepting his inferiority in terms of power. An absolute Straight Forward diva-queen)
Awakening Sharingan for breaking up with his ‘friend’ rather than for his 3 dead brothers. (Geez, Poor Soul. He is the forefather of a Romantic Uchiha. That romantic blood still flows in Sasuke)
6. Senju Hashirama
Tumblr media
Man, I would have placed him somewhere in top 5 if only he was introduced early or had more scenes. I started watching Naruto only because of this very name. There is a local podcaster in my state who goes under the alias of Senju Hashirama and in his podcasts, he hinted about this character and how he was inspired by his ideals. I just googled and saw that this character belonged to Naruto series and I considered watching it. Here I am, making analysis on that very series.
There was this excellent build up for him right when we got introduced to Captain Yamato. He was constantly referred in flashbacks from Itachi and Tobi especially.
But the moment he was reanimated again..... Geez..... It was an hilarious ride all throughout. Out of all the flashbacks we got from this series, Founders Era flashback was my absolute favourite.
From where I come from, we are still under the stupid influence of Clan infrastructure and are not growing up in many aspects like people in western countries do. For me, I hope, one day, someone like Senju Hashirama appears in our state and change our lives for better by uniting all clans as one and treats everyone equally without the shitty favouritism for their own children, friends, parents, siblings.
That’s why this dialogue struck a thunder in my heart
“Be they a friend.... Be they a sibling.... Be it even my own child. I will not forgive anyone who threatens the village.”
Because the clan leaders in our place are absolutely selfish, trash bastards who serves their own needs with no regards for other people from other clans. For a person like me, Hashirama is not just a fictional hero, he is someone who many aspires to become. No wonder that podcaster chose this name as his alias.
He rightfully deserved the title ‘God of Shinobi’. And no one can surpass him, not even Naruto.
Best Moments:
Wood Style vs Eternal Mangekyou sharingan + Kurama powered Madara (He just beats Madara’s ass by a wide margin. This shows he was a whole fucking different level than Naruto + Sasuke combined. In terms of strength, nobody surpassed him YET. Sorry Naruto and Sasuke, you guys are no match even now with your Rinnegan and Kurama lost forever).
His entire banters with Madara (ROFLLLL. Without him, it would have been just another lifeless arc.)
5. Senju Tobirama
Tumblr media
Hmmm, let me tell you something about him.
First off, he is not a racist or fascist as many hardcore Sasuke fanatics claims. He is one of the best hokages according to me. He is abso-fucking-lutely practical, rational, logical and holds no grudge. And Sasuke resembles Tobirama with all these characteristics as compared to soft and naive Naruto. If only he had more screen time, he would be easily in my top 3.
Just because he didn’t lick the boots of Uchiha (many people’s favorite clan or may I say the only clan that was given any shit about in this series), it doesn’t make him a racist or fascist.
No, he never persecuted the Uchihas. Danzo, the crass bastard, driven off the Uchihas only after the Kyuubi incident. It was explicitly mentioned in the databook and was clearly explained in the series.
He literally gave the highest position in the village for the entire clan. That is, a military power inside a military village. ‘Shinobi who can cause crimes can only be stopped by shinobi who are even better’. In my state, if a powerful clan decided to persecute another clan, they simply start by cutting off basic amenities like Water and Electricity. Compared to what I’ve seen, Tobirama did nothing but given the Uchihas, the highest position in their village.
Orochimaru only said giving such a power made them conceited (arrogant). Tobirama had a trusted subordinate called Kagami, an Uchiha in his team. He suggested Kabuto to help Sasuke and even teleported him on his request. He even spited Madara for killing Sasuke, an Uchiha. He openly claimed Uchiha clan exceeds Senju in terms of Love. He openly appreciated Itachi and Kagami as someone who sees beyond their clan. In what world, would a racist or fascist do all this for a clan he hates???
Yes, he was cautious of Sasuke at first because he saw him with Orochimaru and even went full-on battle mode because of Sasuke’s carefree threat to destroy the village. But once he decided to go to the battlefield to fight Madara, he simply forgot everything that happened before and started to work with him as a comrade, and even helped him twice. In which world, a racist or fascist behave this way?
Believe me, a person like me who was grown with these clan politics surely can say who is a fascist. He was not. He was just cautious of them because of their ability to attain superpowers with just emotions alone. Let me ask you all this, ‘Would you be okay with people getting crazy powers whenever they are depressed?’. Being cautious is not racism. It really disrespects people who faced real oppression under fascism.
What Madara and Danzo did was a classical example of fascism.
And No, Izuna didn’t die only because of Tobirama. He died because Madara was too arrogant to instigate war with Senju clan. And this was way before forming Konoha. If Tobirama killed Izuna after the alliance between Uchiha and Senju, I would agree that he was a racist. Izuna lost his life just like any other Uchiha and Senju soldiers in that battlefield.
Just because he shitted your beloved ‘Sasuke-Kun’ doesn’t mean he is a racist too. Tobirama saw Sasuke along with that scoundrel Orochimaru who once used this very two hokages to destroy the very village they strived hard to create and protect. What will you do, if you were in his place?? Please don’t lie and say ‘I wouldn’t be judgemental’.
And Imagine you are Tobirama, Sasuke is threatening to commit genocide against the entire village who had no idea about this coup detat instead of going against those old hags. Will you sit quiet as a Hokage??
He was the first person to suggest his brother, Itama, that Revenge against Uchihas are futile. All we need is an agreement to make truce. That gave the idea for Hashirama to pursue his dream. And Tobirama was happy to follow that dream and very supportive.
It’s because of all these reasons I placed him above Senju Hashirama.
Best Moments:
Amazing power display against Sasuke & Co with just an index finger (It was a pleasure to see everyone’s face trembling with mild sweat including Sasuke).
Acted as a decoy to save his young subordinates. (The way he sacrificed his life saying young wills of fire must be protected is just Woow!! I wish his subordinates listened to his words and passed the mantle to the younger ones rather than playing game at such an old age and screwed up many lives. Pfft!!!)
Any time he says ‘Shut Up’ to Hashirama (ROFL)
His absolute ‘I don’t give a fuck’ attitude to Naruto, Sasuke, Hashirama, Minato and Madara (He trolled them all mercilessly and I love it)
4. Senju Tsunade
Tumblr media
It hurts me to say that Tsunade is the only female character in my list because every other female characters were written in a much more piss poorly way. Only Konan came close to Tsunade but her role was very short.
Despite her character’s purpose revolved around another male character (Dan) and a blatant objectification of her breasts, I liked everything about her other than those mentioned above.
She is the Second Best Hokage who took Konoha right after the destruction made by Orochimaru, excellently handled the aftermath by making friendly relations with Suna (Sand village), provided her best medical support to Konoha in the Pain Arc and successfully handled the fourth Shinobi world war.
She is such a badass who developed her own original jutsu called Byakugou no Jutsu, which can heal herself.
She is just way too amazing and it’s a pity that we got very less scenes in Shippuden.
Best Moments:
Took 25+ stabs from Madara’s Susanoo like a piece of cake (Man, I simply couldn’t describe that scene. All the other Kages were shocked and even Madara too)
Lifted her advisors like a cabbage sack (Those fucking old hags deserved it. Those shits should’ve died)
Her index finger flick assault on Naruto (Aww, Naruto was definitely bratty in his first meeting and Tsunade didn’t hold back at all)
Played Orochimaru like a basketball (In that same arc, she fought Orochimaru mercilessly like a devil left and right. Someone who claimed to have surpassed Tsunade never even dared to fight Orochimaru’s student and crying for his attention after just receiving one stab from Madara. Just saying)
3. Uzumaki Naruto
Tumblr media
Naruto is the titular character and your emotions evolve along with him. He surely deserves a spot in Top 3. The only reason I didn’t place Naruto even more higher is because he didn’t experience something very important which many characters in this list faced. That is, Losing a loved one before his eyes. Every villain in this series became what they are because they lost someone important before their eyes like Nagato, Obito. (Nope, I don’t count Neji as his loved one). I think this tests the mettle of any character and Naruto failed to experience this. The only person he ever lost was Jiraiya and that too from off-screen. That’s why I felt his journey to his dreams seemed little easier compared to the rest of the characters.
His best block of episodes will always be the part 1 Episode 1, 2, 3. Episode 1 is the character defining episode for Naruto and what he learned there will be applied everywhere till the very end of the series. He learned 3 things
Forgiveness, Empathy and Acceptance
Talk-No-Jutsu
Kage Bunshin no Jutsu
From then on, this boy wins many friends to his side, not only from Konoha but from other villages too and even made them to acknowledge his strength only through his sheer hard work.
However, there is this person, whose acknowledgement he wants the most.  That person is his most important bond along with Iruka Sensei. He is none other than Sasuke. One day, Sasuke left him alone for some unavoidable reason at the end of part 1 which left a huge scar in him and he vows to bring him back to the place where he belongs. That becomes his ultimate goal rather than becoming an Hokage.
The way he goes to any extent to protect the people he cares about is just simply entertaining to watch.
Every time he makes an heroic entry to save the day was never boring, not once.
Best Moments:
Sobbing from his heart after hearing Iruka Sensei acknowledging him (It just makes me feel heavy for no reason. The anime team did an awesome job to capture his emotions convincingly)
Awakening Kyuubi Mode for the first time after seeing Sasuke die in his arms (Man, out of all the collective hatred he got from the villagers, this moment affected him a lot speaks volumes)
Punching Neji from the underground to win the Chunin exams (God, I honestly believed Naruto lost but he just surprised us heavily from nowhere. And that failure speech was just pure bliss to watch even today)
Pain Vs Naruto (One of the best arc for Naruto. Because unlike other arcs, where Naruto fought with a team, this arc he was all alone fighting a person with Rinnegan. Be it the exuberant landing from the frogs with a dramatic kabuki music, creating multi-step attacks, coming up with novel solution in that difficult situation, finally ending the conflict without killing the enemy, becoming an hero. Superb journey. The only thing I didn’t like in that arc is some shitty selfish proposal. PUKE!!)
Bearing the burdens of his most important person and die along with him (This boy always shouts he will never die until he becomes an Hokage. But for Sasuke, he was ready to die along with him in order to not leave him alone proves how much he loves him. This shows his emotional maturity rather than shouting at Sasuke like he always did before which never reached his ears. This time it did)
Final Good Bye to Minato (Honestly, I was bawling just like Naruto in that scene no matter how many times I watch it. It started out slow but as he speaks more and more, he simply couldn’t hold back and wept a sea of tears 😭😭😭)
2. Uchiha Sasuke
Tumblr media
One of the well written characters in this series, with all the flaws and positive stuffs which makes him more of an Anti-Hero. He always subverts my preformed opinions and never ceased to surprise me.
Despite being aloof and cold, his warmer side will always be exposed towards Naruto. This is evident by many things he had done for Naruto which he don’t have to or no reason to. Starting right from roasting Sakura, offering lunch, asking for tips, enquiring about breakfast, protecting him many times and dying for Naruto.
Why I placed him above Naruto is because of his unavoidable decision to tread in a complicated dark path primarily due to the trauma he carried and was stirred up again by collective factors such as Orochimaru’s cursed seal, Itachi’s arrival and Naruto’s growth. Compared to Sasuke, Naruto had an easier path because he never saw anyone die before his eyes and hence he don’t carry any trauma which can divert his path.
Even after watching his entire clan and family members murdered before his eyes at an age 8, he managed to pull himself and never snapped out like many other good characters does. But the moment when he found out that Itachi was good all along, he simply couldn’t tolerate the truth and gave himself to Vengeance. Because, he loved his brother more than he hated him all these years. This shows he loved his brother more than his parents. His resolve to destroy Konoha was perfectly understandable. But is it good? Nope. He can kill Danzo and those old hags but killing other people was never justifiable.
But still, his resolve to have his vengeance was diverted by Naruto and weakened by Itachi, at some point. So, he decided to know the truth and when he heard it, he understood the Hokages also sacrificed many precious things to protect this village just like his Brother Itachi. He understood the mistakes of his clan and decided to protect the village which he swore to destroy. [Many Sasuke fanatics think that he succumbed to the Government and Kishi wrote Sasuke to bootlick them. Their idea was to tackle genocide with another genocide. What a stupid idea!!!!]
And No, I don’t consider him trying to kill Sakura, Karin and Kakashi as his bad moments (though I feel bad for Karin). For the simple reason being, he became a monster by losing himself in the darkness who lost the rationality to differentiate friends from foes. Much similar to how Naruto lost himself to Kyuubi’s hatred against Orochimaru and in Pain Arc. It’s so hypocritical to ignore Naruto and accuse Sasuke here. Plus, Sakura had no business to be there otherwise Sasuke would not have tried to kill her.
But does it mean Sasuke did nothing wrong???
Nope.
He definitely shouldn’t have joined Akatsuki and hunted Killer Bee like an animal. Because, he knew that Tobi was the one who helped Itachi massacre the clan. When fighting Itachi he specifically vowed to kill Madara (Tobi). On top of that, Itachi passed on Amaterasu in his eyes specifically to stay away from Tobi. Why did he ally with him? Plus, Sasuke was one of the few characters who was exposed to the name ‘Akatsuki’ in part 1 itself. He clearly knew that this organization targets Naruto, his closest bond. Why did he join there? This is where the stupid part of Sasuke came out. I was grunting... ‘Oii Where did that clever Sasuke, who faced 1000 soldiers without killing any of them, went??’.
And his plan for Revolution???? I thought it would be reasonable. But his vision was eerily similar to Danzo’s vision. Grrr..... Danzo also wanted to create his ideal village by destroying the current Hokage. He wanted to unite the Five Village and put himself on top of everyone as evident from the Kage Summit arc.
I appreciate him that he finally adopted the Will of Fire, by wanting to protect the village at all costs just like Itachi and Hashirama did. But his methods are not very democratic. Plus, he wanted to do it alone. I was screaming at him... ‘Grrr, Sasuke, did you listen to Itachi at all???. He failed because he did everything alone. Why can’t you understand????’ This is also another instance, Sasuke’s stupidity glanced out.
I am happy Naruto knocked some sense into him by telling him not to do it alone but together.
Many fanatics also ask, ‘What did Sasuke do wrong to atone for his sins at the end?’.
I was like ‘Reallly????’
He joined Akatsuki, an organization which terrorized all the 5 villages and he hunted someone like an international criminal.
He spoiled the Kage Summit and attacked Raikage who lost his arm because of him. I know what happened over there is not Sasuke’s fault. But these are the kages who was loved by many people in their own villages. How can the world forget it and simply let him go?
It’s exactly because of all those lovely stuffs he did in Part 1 and all these mistakes he did in Part 2 but willing to correct his mistakes by sharing the burdens of his other half in the end made him more interesting, complicated and exciting and that’s why I love this character.
I also have a personal bias to love this character sooo much because of the character on top of my list.
Best Moments:
Defending Naruto before Sakura (Awww!!! Such a good boy he was. Eventhough I thought he was a typical arrogant K-Drama hero, he just subverted my opinion in that one scene. I always have a thing for people who stands up for someone even though they don’t have to. This is where I started to like Sasuke)
My body moved on its own. (Is there anything that trumps this scene in terms of emotions and love in this series?. This moment is where I understood the depth of Sasuke’s emotions towards Naruto).
What is a Clan? What is a Village? What is a Shinobi? (I was really hoping for Sasuke to question himself something similar to this. Because he was so self-absorbed in his hatred and failed to look outside him ever since he left the village. It was so gratifying that he did that)
Killing Orochimaru (I always thought Sasuke will kill him only after he tries to take over the body. Never imagined that he will strike the snake first)
Killing Danzo (Man, what an amazing battle!!!. It was so gratifying to see such a crass bastard die many times over and over).
His dramatic confession through his monologue (After the mystery of Who is this Tobi, Sasuke’s obsession towards Naruto remained a mystery for me. Why did he listen to Naruto under the bridge? Why did he protected Naruto in the War? I got the answer only after this confession. It was so heartwarming to see this mellow side of Sasuke)
1. Uchiha Itachi
Tumblr media
I could write pages about him. The foremost reason I like Itachi and earns the top spot in my rankings is because he shockingly resembled me in many ways. As I already said, I come from a place where clan politics plays a major role and when I see Sasuke’s flashback in part 1, I was simply dumbstruck by such a detailed similarities.
Elder child of the family - ✅
Have an adorable younger sister who loves me more than my parents - ✅
Same age gap (5 years) with my sister as Itachi and Sasuke - ✅
Parents paying total attention on me while ignoring my sister completely - ✅
Parents constantly comparing my achievements with my sister - ✅
A sister who bear hugged me every time I entered the home after returning from my school - ✅
Despite my mom being a teacher, my sister always prefers me to teach her stuffs as she considers me to be way too better than my mom -  ✅
Love my sister more than my parents - ✅
Clan-Obsessed parents - ✅
Used me as a tool for the benefit of the clan - ✅
Sending another person from my clan to spy on me - ✅
Strained relationship with my parents - ✅
Disgusted with my clan - ✅
Most importantly, this dialogue from part 1 episode 129,
Clan? Clan?
Obsessed with the organization, Obsessed with the clan, Obsessed with the name, that’s merely the detestable action that restrict yourself.
I have given up all hope in this worthless clan
Because, people obsess themselves to their clan, a thing so petty, they lose sight of the things that are truly important.
A real change cannot occur under restraints and controls
I confronted my parents with the exact same dialogue (almost 98% similar) in my own native language some years ago.
I didn’t even know the existence of Naruto series at that time. I was simply shell-shocked by all these similarities with this character.
And Yes, The moment I heard these dialogues, I knew Itachi, was a good guy, who had a very strong reason for his actions and I instantly knew Sasuke’s revenge will not bear him any happiness.
It is exactly because of all these striking similarities of myself with Itachi, and my lil’l sister with Sasuke, my family dynamics with the Uchiha family.... I could understand the magnitude of Sasuke’s love towards Itachi.
And precisely because of that, I could understand Sasuke’s love towards Naruto is not fucking ‘brotherly’ one but something that leans towards Attraction.
No wonder, Itachi left Sasuke in Naruto’s care.
Anyways to speak objectively,
Itachi is an extremely self-sacrificial person whose life is full of pain and miseries but never blames it on the world unlike other Uchiha members like Madara, Obito and Sasuke to an extent.
He did things considering the bigger picture which never benefitted himself in anyway and was willing to go to any extent even at the expense of his own family and his brother’s happiness. That is, Uchiha Clan Massacre and Joining Akatsuki. None of this benefitted him in anyways but he did it anyway, for the village of Konoha.
His ideals are shockingly similar to Hashirama, Which Sasuke pointed this out and Hashirama acknowledged that Itachi was a better shinobi than he was. ❤️❤️❤️
Now, does this means I support Uchiha clan massacre?
No way. Even Itachi didn’t.
This massacre happened because of the huge clusterfuck from Hiruzen’s incompetence, Danzo’s paranoid arrogance, Uchiha clan’s devious plan to over throw the government by force rather than approaching it in a peaceful way, say, a peace talk or a protest.
All these people acted on their own self-interest. Itachi and Shisui caught in their whirlpool, bear their burdens and paid for it with their life. Sasuke suffered for it.
But, it’s not the only reason I love this character. It’s because, the moment he decided to massacre everyone, he marked his own death by the hands of his beloved brother. I love people who owns up their mistakes and face the consequences rather than making excuses (even though it’s not entirely his mistake).
Itachi is also the only character in this series who realized his failures on his own without anyone’s interference or Naruto’s Talk-No-Jutsu.
And he apologized for everything he did to Sasuke.
Again, some hardcore Sasuke fanatics criticize/hate him for torturing their poor ‘Sasuke-Kun’ with his Tsukuyomi. I was like ‘Hmmm...What?’.
First off, Itachi apologized to Sasuke for not thinking out from his point of view and also for not telling him the truth earlier.
Second off, Sasuke never even blamed Itachi for anything (even he didn’t hold him for killing their parents). If Sasuke himself, forgiven Itachi... Why are his fans being so rabid?
Third off, for all of his supposed ‘crimes’, he paid for it by dying as a disgraceful Madman rather than a Hero who really saved the village. He is someone who should be celebrated like Naruto but instead died proudly as a Traitor of Konoha.
All in all, One of the wonderfully written character I have ever seen in the media.
Best Moments:
Itachi vs Sasuke (That battle was a pure brilliance and highly emotional especially after knowing the truth. When Sasuke released his Kirin, Itachi showed off his ultimate armour Susanoo like a badass. Seeing Susanoo for the first time gave me chills. No, Sasuke didn’t kill him. Itachi died on his own)
Itachi vs Orochimaru (Man, Itachi may look mellow but when it comes to Orochimaru he is a pure Sass. He screwed that snake up both the times by a wide margin. It seems Uchiha brothers like to fuck up Orochimaru, LOL)
Talk-No-Jutsu’ing Naruto (Geez, Naruto was being completely bratty and was full of saviour complex like he was going to bear everyone’s hatred by himself. I was almost annoyed. Thanks to Itachi, he realised. Probably he is the only character to shut Naruto using his own jutsu)
Izanami’ing Kabuto (Other than Naruto, he is the only character to go out of his way to empathize with a villain and put extreme effort to change him. I think this is why Sasuke loves Naruto, for seeing these similarities??? ).
Goodbye to Sasuke (The first time when he said ‘Forgive me, Sasuke. This is the last’ by poking his forehead and finally closing the distance by butting with Sasuke’s head softly saying ‘I will love you always’.... It always evokes uncontrollable tears in me, no matter how many times I watch it 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭)
HONOURABLE MENTION
Uchiha Obito
Tumblr media
God, Am such a sucker for Uchiha guys individually, though collectively as a clan they fucked up big time. I simply couldn’t find the place for him in the top 10. He is a classic example of What Naruto will be like if he becomes a villain?
However, all those horrible stuffs he did just for a girl whom he had a crush on which was never reciprocated seems childish. That’s why I couldn’t put him in Top 10.
And his understandable but weird obsession on Naruto was always enjoyable to watch.
One cute thing I liked about him was, whatever criminal stuffs he may have done, he was never a cheapskate though. He had every chance to take back Kakashi’s Sharingan to activate his own Susanoo. But he never even thought of such an idea. He was a bad guy. But a good friend, no matter what.
Pure Baby!!! But lost his way!!!
Best Moments:
Importance of Team Work (’In the ninja world, Those who break the rules are  scum. But those who abandon their comrades are worse than scum’. This very legacy he left to Kakashi came to defeat him later. And Naruto follows this motto even today)
Sacrificing his Sharingan (’I am giving you my Sharingan. No matter what the villagers say, you are a great Jonin. Please take it’. Awww!!! Obito. He left his Sharingan which helped Kakashi to complete a jutsu called ‘Chidori’, which is a go-to jutsu of Sasuke)
Thanks for the ask, anon. I thoroughly enjoyed writing this. ❤️

Laundry Day
It had been building for weeks now. Piling up, bit by bit. Iruka ignored it for as long as he could, shoving it to the back of his mind and going about his daily business, teaching at the Academy and pulling shifts at the Mission Desk like nothing was wrong. But eventually, even he could deny it no longer. When he checked his closet and found that all he had to wear was a single ketchup-or-maybe-blood-stained crop-top, tight yoga shorts, and flip-flops, he knew it was finally time to stop putting it off. There was no other choice left.
    He had to do laundry.
“Oh my God, who did you kill?” Anko asked as he dragged the bulging laundry bag down the hallway of his apartment complex.
“You, if you don't back off,” Iruka snapped at her. “There's just enough room in here for a body.”
“I sincerely doubt that,” Anko said, cocking an eyebrow at the huge bag. “Seriously, what gives? That thing must be, like, a hundred pounds. Is this some kind of new training craze?”
“It's laundry day,” Iruka stated. Anko blinked. “I haven't done laundry in two months,” he went on impatiently. “It's kind of hard to find the time between my job teaching, my job at the Mission Desk, and my other job keeping Naruto and Sasuke from killing or kissing each other in public, and since they all count as full-time jobs with none of the benefits, I literally have nothing else to wear.”
“Ah. That would explain the booty shorts.”
“They're called yoga shorts, and they're comfortable.”
“I don't care what they're called, your ass looks amazing in them.”
“Stop ogling me!” Iruka barked, his cheeks flaming. Anko's eyes didn't move. “Am I gonna have to go have another talk with HR?” Anko paled.
“Oh, God, please don't. Last time I had to watch a three-hour film on sexual harassment in the workplace. I had to take notes. There was a quiz after.”
“Then stop. STARING.” Iruka gave Anko one last glare, then continued on his way, dragging his laundry bag after him with all the dignity he could muster. Which wasn't alot, considering the bag was heavy as fuck and he'd kinda been neglecting his standard workout routine. Because, you know, three jobs or whatever.
There were quite a few laundromats scattered about Konoha, all stocked with specialized, heavy-duty cleaning supplies for shinobi needs (to aid in the removal of blood, guts, and other icky bits picked up from slaughtering enemies and whatnot). The one Iruka usually frequented was located about ten blocks away, which normally wasn't too bad, especially if Iruka went by rooftop. However, that was quite impossible at the moment, considering his giant bag of dirty clothes was hefty and ungainly enough that it would probably squirt right out of his arms and kill an unfortunate pedestrian below. Also, it was the middle of summer and the sun had decided to be an asshole that day, blazing down like some kind of fire Jutsu and scalding every living thing in sight. To make matters worse, the laundry bag seemed to grow heavier with every step until it was like dragging Hokage mountain down the street. So by the time Iruka finally managed to heave the bag halfway across Konoha and up a flight of stairs into the laundromat itself, he was a hot, sweaty mess, his ponytail half-undone and hanging in his face, damp clothing sticking to his skin.
Which was exactly why Hatake motherfucking Kakashi was in there, of fucking course. There was no way Iruka's silly little crush wouldn't be in the one place he'd hoped he wouldn't be.
Iruka wanted to crawl into the nearest drier and turn it on.
Maybe he won't see me, he thought as he quietly slipped inside.
“Hey, Iruka!” Kotetsu shouted from across the entire laundromat. “Nice shorts!”
    Everyone immediately turned to look.
Well I know who I'm going to kill now, Iruka thought to himself miserably as he was ogled by every shinobi in the room. He made a mental checklist and vowed to prank each one in retaliation. His body was a temple.
“You know you could have just stuffed that in a scroll,” Genma said after peeling his gaze off Iruka's thighs, twitching his senbon at the bulging bag.
“I'll stuff you in a fucking scroll,” Iruka hissed at him, wiping a sweaty strand of hair out of his face.
“Ooh, baby, talk dirty to me,” Genma cooed.
“You're disgusting,” Iruka said flatly. He glanced around, looking for a table with any inch of free space, perfectly willing to fight someone for it. There, in the back, he spotted one last table...right next to Kakashi. Because, you know, this day couldn't get any worse. Iruka debated waiting an extra ten minutes or so to see if the laundromat emptied out a bit, saw Genma wiggle his eyebrows suggestively at him, and decided anything was better than this. Steeling himself with a deep breath, he dragged his bag over to the open table beside Kakashi and started dumping clothes out.
Kakashi, thankfully, didn't respond to his sudden arrival except for a polite grunt and nod in greeting. Iruka nodded back, then focused for the next several minutes on organizing his dirty clothes, intent on ending this humiliation as quickly as possible. As he worked, he couldn't help but sneak glances at Kakashi while he sorted his lights and darks. The man was busy folding his own laundry, bent over the table, his movements precise and methodical, done with the utmost care. Iruka almost suspected he was using the Sharingan to achieve such perfect folds. He glanced down at the clothes themselves, expecting combat fatigues or maybe a pair of well-worn sweats.
Instead, he was surprised to discover Kakashi was folding almost two dozen miniature flak jackets with some kind of funny emblem on the back.
“Did...did you accidentally shrink that in the drier or something?” Iruka blurted out before he could stop himself. Kakashi looked over at him, blinking lazily, then chuckled, a husky sound that made Iruka's knees weak.
“Of course not,” he said, his voice warm with amusement. “This is my ninken's laundry.”
Iruka had to hold in a snort. The famed Copy-Nin of Konoha, scourge of all enemies, feared by missing-nin, doing his ninken's laundry? It was ridiculous! It was absurd! It was...
Adorable, quite frankly. Iruka's heart melted a little at the sight of him carefully piling up their little vests, careful not to crease them.
“It's a pain,” Kakashi went on. “They're so picky. I have to use unscented detergent and dryer sheets or they complain.”
“Too bad they don't sell a fresh cat-shit scent,” Iruka chuckled awkwardly before biting his lip.
Kakashi, however, took no offense, throwing his head back and laughing aloud.
“Ha! They'd like that! Maybe they have a three-day-old steak one, too.” He grinned at Iruka through his mask, one visible eye twinkling. Iruka flushed, and he quickly turned back to his laundry, realized he was holding a pair of underwear, and flung it away, his face flushing darker as he busied himself with sorting again. “You've got quite a load,” Kakashi went on after a moment, nodding at the mountainous pile in front of him.
“Yeah, I've been putting it off for a while,” Iruka grumbled distractedly, searching for a stray sock's missing partner with no luck. “This is literally the last thing I have to wear, so I either do laundry today or go into work tomorrow naked.”
“I knew I should have finished that mission report,” Kakashi said under his breath.
“Very funny,” Iruka scoffed in annoyance, shoving his first few loads into the nearby washing machines.
    “Oh, I'm dead serious.”
The annoyance turned to anger, and Iruka looked over at the other man to give him a piece of his mind, only to find him staring right back, his warm grin having grown into something much more inviting, bordering on flirtatious. Iruka's sharp comment died in his throat and he cleared it roughly, feeling hot all over. Awkwardly, he reached for change in his pockets, then froze. He looked down and swore. He didn't even fucking have pockets. Stupid booty- YOGA shorts. He'd forgotten the quarters, and he didn't dare leave his clothes unattended for fear someone like Genma would be a creep and steal a pair of underwear or something. Also, Izumo and Kotetsu had a habit of borrowing things and never returning them, and he could see them eyeing several of his favorite shirts from across the laundromat. He'd just have to pack everything up and return home. What a waste, the whole trip had been for nothing-
The clink of coins snapped him out of his mental cursing, and he looked up in shock to see Kakashi paying for his loads.
“Oh no,” he sputtered, “please, Kakashi, you don't have to-”
“It's fine. You can pay next time,” Kakashi said with a wave.
“But I...well...oh, alright, fine.” Iruka sighed, giving in. “Thank you.”
“So it's a date then,” Kakashi said. “Which cycle do you prefer?”
“Cotton cycle, cold water, extra rinse, please,” Iruka said automatically, then blinked. “Wait, I'm sorry, did you say-”
“See you next week,” Kakashi was already halfway to the door, his ninken's clothes tucked under his arms and a pile of quarters left on Iruka's table for the rest of his loads. Iruka gaped after him in shock.
Had that...really just happened? Had he really exchanged pleasantries with one of the most infamous shinobi of Konoha while folding laundry? Or had it all been merely a dream, a figment of his imagination-
“You washing those shorts, too?” Genma asked hopefully, leering like a hungry wolf.
Nope, he was definitely awake. Iruka threw some Tide-pods at Genma to chase him away before turning back to his loads, shaking his head in wonder.
He'd definitely be doing his laundry more often from now on.

You’re Not Alone (Kakashi x Uchiha!reader)
A/N: This is my quick break. I’m sorry that I haven’t gotten requests out. End of semester means finals and lots of work. I’ll be getting requests soon.
Side note: Reader is the eldest of the Uchiha head family, left her clan before everything happened.
Tumblr media
Your P.O.V.
You were never super close to your father. You two were always butting heads, but that didn’t mean you guys loved each other any less. But you knew it was time to leave the clan for good. Your friends have been pointing that out for years since the war. You were probably the only Uchiha who didn’t want to take revenge on the village.
You took one last look at the family house before smiling softly as you see Sasuke running around the garden, his kunai knives in his hands.
Your friend Kakashi had arranged for an ANBU to help you make your leave just in case your father tried to stop you from leaving, you knew he wouldn’t but you didn’t want to turn down Kakashi’s offer, he’s been there for a while, honestly the dude was probably your best friend.
“Y/N, wait!” Sasuke yells before running over
You didn’t tell him that you were leaving the clan. You didn’t have the heart to tell him that, he looked up to you, you had the best fireball jutsu in the clan and he wanted to be just like you. He wanted to make your guys father proud.
“Sasuke, I got to go.” You chuckle as you stop
“I know. But I want to say goodbye. You never leave without saying goodbye to me.” He says
You smile sadly before kneeling to his height, bringing your finger to his forehead. You watch as he goes to shy away before he peeks his eyes open before smiling.
You started the whole forehead thing, you started it with a soft tap, Itachi was the one who added the whole flicking. You guys didn’t mind, this was something that was only between you guys and nobody could change that.
“Alright kiddo, I’ll be gone for awhile. Promise not to bug Itachi too much.” You tease
He giggles before nodding. He wraps his arms around your neck, hugging you before you have to leave. You smile before placing a gentle kiss to his forehead before standing up and heading towards the ANBU member standing at the clan’s entrance.
You look back one last time to see your father staring you down, watching as you leave, never to come back to the clan as an Uchiha.
That was the last time you saw your clan alive. God, you wish you never left.
-~-
You run through the houses, seeing all the bodies of your family on the ground, staring at the sky.
“No!” You yell
Sasuke!
You start to run towards the head family’s home when you stop dead in your tracks, seeing two figures staring each other down. You take one good look before you see your two brothers. You watch as Sasuke starts to shake with fear before you hurry to where you are standing in front of him.
“Y/N, you shouldn’t be here. You turned your back on us.” Itachi says
You look at him before you reach behind you, pulling Sasuke closer to you.
“Leave.” I demand
Itachi scoffs before turning around and disappearing. You turn around before taking Sasuke into your arms, feeling him pass out before heading out of the clan’s home, heading to the hospital.
Kakashi’s P.O.V.
I look at the Hokage before nodding, handing over my mask before heading towards the hospital.
Itachi did this? Why turn against his own clan?
I reach the hospital before I see Y/N in one of the windows, her back towards it as the rain starts to fall.
I walk into the hospital before heading to the table.
“Uchiha.” I state
They look at me before nodding, showing me where to go. I thank them before heading towards the room.
I lightly knock before opening the door to see Y/N playing with the young boys hair.
“He walked in on him killing our parents.” She comments “Itachi didn’t care if he scarred Sasuke.”
“Y/N, how long have you been here with him?” I question
“Since the massacre.” She admits “I can’t leave him again.”
“You won’t have to but you need to take care of yourself.” I scold “Get some sleep, I’ll watch over the boy. Itachi won’t come back for him, not through me.”
She looks at me before nodding, heading towards the spare bed that was in the room. I watch as she starts to make herself comfortable.
“You’re not alone in this.” I say “I should’ve been a better role model for him.”
She shakes her head, too tired to fully respond to me, I chuckle before taking a seat in the window, watching over the two sleeping Uchiha’s.
~Time Skip~
Your P.O.V.
It’s been a few years since Itachi killed your clan, you had been raising Sasuke on your own since then. It took a little bit but you eventually got the hang of balancing missions and Sasuke. It really helped that Kakashi was willing to help where he could, even if it meant taking on your missions so you could be home.
You look over at Kakashi as you are looking over the details in the mission that your squad was assigned to. The Hokage partnered you and Kakashi up to take charge of Team 7, which meant your brother was part of it.
“Naruto and Sasuke, they’re complete opposites. How do you expect this to work Hatake?” You question
“I don’t know. That’s why you’re here too. You know how both those boys work.” He chuckles as he continues to read his book
You roll your eyes before reaching over and stealing one of his rice balls, sticking it in your mouth.
“You’re lucky I love you or I’d make you pay me back.” Kakashi mumbles
You laugh before shrugging. Over the years you and Kakashi has grown closer, eventually even starting a relationship.
He meant his statement about not being alone.
He’s been there every step of the way since that fateful night.

Normally, Iruka would balk at the idea that he should be carried through the front gates after a mission, no matter how gruelling. He has an image to uphold, and what if one of his students were to see him broken and weak after one of his missions? He’d either never hear the end of their worry or, worse, lose their respect as a strong shinobi capable of teaching them.
So no, this situation is far from normal.
He holds on tight around Kotetsu’s shoulders and buries his face in his teammate’s hair. His back is on fire, carved wounds shifting and worsening with each step. Some kind of curse-seal, or a time-released jutsu; whatever happened, Izumo couldn’t use the mystical palm jutsu to heal it, not without causing further excruciating pain and making the wounds ooze and seem to cut themselves deeper into Iruka’s back.
They had cut their losses and abandoned the mission. Iruka’s fūinjutsu was vital to its success anyway, and he was—is—in constant agony.
Thankfully, they enter the village just after nightfall. Iruka can feel a bit relieved over that—most of his current students are home and inside at this time, so the chances of being seen by any of them are slim. He bites his lip to stifle a cry as Kotetsu pushes off a rooftop a bit harder than usual and it shifts him too much.
They’re halfway to the hospital when the ANBU team flank him and Kotetsu, escorting them the rest of the way. One of them, Cat, runs close enough to talk.
“Report.”
Iruka can’t. Kotetsu responds, “An injury that responds poorly to normal medical field ninjutsu.”
“Is he awake?”
Iruka nods, knowing Cat will see.
“Iruka-sensei, can you speak?”
He shakes his head.
Kotetsu says, “He’s been in too much pain to do much more than nod or shake his head.”
“Rokudaime-sama wants you and your other teammate to report directly to him once Iruka-sensei is admitted to the hospital.”
Kotetsu fumbles another step. Iruka grits his teeth and groans, holding back a scream. “Sorry, Ru,” he mumbles. To Cat he says, “Of course, ANBU-san. Izumo’s checking us in at the gate. I’ll collect him and report, once I drop Iruka off.”
Iruka doesn’t remember being admitted. He does remember Sakura’s startled cry as he’s placed face-down on a gurney and his wounds are finally able to be seen in harsh fluorescent lighting for the first time. Gods, he’s tired of being face-down in hospital beds.
Will something, anything, have the wherewithal to fucking strike him in the chest for once, please?
He passes out.
~
A hand is holding his own gently as he wakes, extremely disoriented and floaty on painkillers. He blinks his eyes open and turns his gaze to the man beside him. Iruka smiles faintly. “K’shi,” he slurs. Oh, they have him on the good drugs.
“You are never leaving the village again,” Kakashi whispers harshly. He bows his head and kisses Iruka’s hand in his own and continues, “Hokage’s orders.”
“I‘ll go rogue,” Iruka mutters, closing his eyes. “What’s in my IV?”
“From what Sakura tells me? Everything.”
“That explains.” Iruka stops, trying to think of the rest of his sentence, but a fresh flood of painkillers just flowed into his arm and he hums instead.
“I heard from Kotetsu and Izumo what happened,” Kakashi continues. “Are you able yet to talk about it as well?”
“Nope.” Iruka nuzzles into his pillow. He’s feeling really floaty and he’d like to go back to sleep.
Kakashi chuckles. Iruka receives a kiss to his hair and a tighter grip on his hand. “Sleep, then, my love. I’ll see if Sakura can get you on something less strong, enough that we can talk soon.”
“‘Kay. Love you.”
He falls back asleep.
~
When he wakes the second time, there’s a different kind of energy in the room—a different sort of love in the air, and Iruka knows it sounds crazy but he can just tell, even with his eyes still closed, when he’s around Kakashi or if he’s around Naruto.
Now, it’s Naruto.
Also, he can feel the carving in his back, so whatever they’d had him on before they’d lowered the dosage or put him on something else entirely.
“Hey, Naruto,” Iruka says, opening his eyes.
In the chair beside his head, the blond bundle sits, knee twitching. With his bandaged arm crossed over his other and his head bowed in thought, he almost looks like the adult he’s so close to being, instead of the teenager he still is. They argue good-naturedly about it all the time; Naruto insists that he’s an adult, but at eighteen, he’s still technically a teenager and Iruka reminds him of it as much as he can.
“Iru-nii! How are you feeling?”
“Like someone took a carving knife to my back,” Iruka scoffs. “Also, strangely drained.”
Naruto nods. “Sakura-chan said that the new pain medicine has the side-effect of making it feel like you’re chakra-exhausted. But,” he frowns, “she also said that the dose should be strong enough that you wouldn’t be in too much pain when you wake up.”
“It’s bearable, Naruto. You…” He sighs, “You didn’t see me when I came in, did you?”
He shakes his head. “I was out with Kiba and Shikamaru. Kakashi-sensei told me about you this morning, when we got back. You’ve been drifting in and out for, like, three days!”
Iruka buries his face in his pillow and groans. There goes his hope that the carvings won’t scar.
“He says he’ll be by later,” Naruto adds. He shivers comically. “I still don’t see why you’d pick him of all people, Iru-nii.”
Iruka smiles. “You have a different experience with him as his student.” The smile fades and he asks, “Has there been any progress made on fixing my back?”
Naruto sobers. “See, that’s the thing. Every time Sakura tries to get close with some kind of medical ninjutsu—or even with normal healing balms and stitches—the cuts react violently. Like there’s some bad chakra embedded inside them.”
“Has anyone had a Hyūga come and look at it?” Iruka muses. “If there’s chakra in the cuts, then a Hyūga would see it with the Byakugan.”
Naruto jumps up. “You’re a genius! I’ll go and check with Sakura-chan!”
Iruka watches him leave and sighs fondly. Kakashi did well with him, he thinks, and then closes his eyes and drifts.
~
At least he’s able to move around on his own now. Iruka washes his hands in the bathroom and then braces his palms on the sink. It’s been almost a week, and no one is any closer to figuring out how to fix his back.
Having a Hyūga look at the wounds didn’t help. It nearly blinded Hinata. Iruka still feels horribly guilty about it, but she can still see and activate her Byakugan, so he’s been told multiple times to let it go.
What she had seen made everyone uneasy though. A slimy discharge of chakra oozing from the wounds, bright and powerful enough that Hinata had to close her eyes against it.
Sakura has a small team of medi-nins on his case, researching at all hours. Two days, and they still haven’t found anything.
Iruka’s frustrated.
Kakashi visits every night and Naruto most mornings. It’s nice, but he’d rather be back in class with his kids.
He had to get a blood transfusion last night. His back hasn’t stopped bleeding, and the blood loss finally caught up to him.
Iruka turns his back to the mirror, takes off his shirt gingerly, and looks over his shoulder at the carvings. He frowns—it looks odd. This is the first time he’s gotten to see the wounds, and he can’t imagine no one's noticed…
He leaves the bathroom and hunts around in the stack of drawers by his bed. “Ha!” He finds a pad of paper and a pencil, and heads back into the bathroom.
It’s difficult, transcribing the still bleeding wounds onto paper through a mirror while looking over his shoulder. It’s even harder once the dose of painkillers he’s on fully metabolizes and he’s not yet done. Twisting his upper back, stretching and sitting on the edge of the sink so he can see his lower back—it aches.
A voice comes from the other side of the door, along with a soft knock. “Iruka-sensei? Is everything alright?”
Sakura.
He places the pad and pencil on the counter and slides the door open. “Sakura, has no one realized that the wounds are words?” he asks.
She looks startled. “Huh?”
“Could you please clean them for me again, and check that I’ve transcribed it correctly?” Iruka reaches back inside the bathroom and gives the pad of paper to Sakura. “I’m sure Rokudaime-sama will be interested in this.”
Sakura finally catches up. “Yes! Um, let me get you another dose of painkillers, and a flush kit. If you could sit back down, Sensei? I’ll be right back!”
Iruka just about collapses onto the mattress, leaning his elbows on his knees. Finally, some answers are on the horizon.
~
“It’s no language the cipher corps recognize, nor is it a code in our archives.” Kakashi has his arms crossed and a shoulder leaning against the window. “But they do agree with your assessment—it’s definitely a message of some kind.”
Iruka sighs, picking at the hospital food. “Validation is nice, but I was hoping for an end to this pain.”
“I know, love. Me too.”
“When can we expect word back from Sasuke?”
“If it is Otsutsuki, Sasuke should arrive as soon as possible, per my order. If not, he likely will only return a messenger hawk with the information.” Kakashi leaves the window and comes to sit on the mattress beside Iruka. “We’re going to figure this out.”
Iruka hums and leans against his partner, resting his head against Kakashi’s collarbone. It’s not comfortable, but it is comforting. “I miss sleeping with you,” he whispers.
Kakashi kisses the top of his head. “I miss you too, love. The house is too quiet without you.”
~
Iruka stares at the encoded characters transcribed from his back. He’s… discomfited. He’s been staring at the words for almost a half-hour, trying to make sense of it.
It doesn’t change.
Iruka knows this language.
Not… not well enough to read it outright, but enough that with the characters cleaned up and a fresh copy in his hands, one that was written down while the scribe (himself) wasn’t in immense pain, he recognizes it.
“Iru-nii!” Naruto steps in for his morning visit. “How’d you sleep?”
“As best as can be expected,” Iruka mutters. “Naruto, can you do me a favor?”
“Hmm? Sure!”
Thank the gods he still has his moments of dull-headedness. “In the office at home, I have a scroll with the Uzumaki clan seal on it. It’s the only one, middle shelf. I need you to get that scroll for me please.”
“Nii-chan, why do you have an Uzumaki scroll?”
Iruka sighs. “Go get the scroll, and I’ll explain when you get back, okay?”
Naruto leaves through the open window, his footing unsteady. But he leaves and that means that Iruka can breathe and take the time to think of a way to tell him, when he gets back, about how he found out that they are actually distantly related.
Actually, no—how is he supposed to—shit. Iruka drags a hand down his face.
Hey Naruto, oh this old scroll? Found it in the archives after Tsunade-sama left office! It was in a box marked with my parents’ names on it. Yeah, turns out that my father was a refugee from Uzushio, just like your mother! Oh, and funnily enough, Umino is also a branch family of the Uzumaki!
That’s… not going to go over well, is it.
~
Break a thing for fragments. Break the fragments for dust. Break the dust, and break what remains. Here is fire.
To forge a sword, to fight, to curse your enemies on the eve of battle. This is the story of blood and its exits.
A word that sanctifies the change that comes when the seared skin peels. Words spoken in ritual to inspire an unmerciful Change. To speak them aloud is to hear the sword hiss.
All these things share certain patterns.
“Mercy,” saith the Altar, “is found only in shadow.”
“Mercy,” saith the Altar, “is found only in shadow.”
“Mercy,” saith the Altar, “is found only in shadow.”
Iruka wakes gasping, not realizing that he’d fallen asleep. He pats his lap for the scroll Naruto had brought him, and startles as he realizes that it’s not there. It—It had been there just, just a little while ago, hadn’t it???
“Mercy is found only in shadow,” he mutters to himself, looking around his room. “Mercy is found… There!” The scroll, the one with the Uzumaki clan seal, is rolled up and tucked neatly away on a table on the far end of the room. Iruka gathers his strength and swings his legs over the side of the bed.
He tries to stand.
And fails.
He catches himself on hands and knees, and then feels his elbows weaken and give way. His cheek hits the tile and he hisses. He tries to push up again, but can’t…
Can’t…
The Altar holds a spark.
Freol is the mouth, the door, the flame, the altar, and the reward.
Knife and sword shed blood for Freol; what is spilled is hers. Fires burn for Freol; what is consumed is hers.
~
“Iruka! Iruka, please, wake up!”
“The breath of Freol brings change and endings,” Iruka slurs, barely awake and compelled. He can’t stop, can’t stop, can’t speak anything other than this ancient language. “‘Mercy,’ saith the Altar, ‘is found only in shadow.’ Let those who gather near Freol be blessed and cursed. Mercy is found only in shadow. Mercy—”
“Naruto, tell me Sasuke has gotten back to us.”
“He hasn’t! And-and Kurama has no idea what Iru-nii’s saying, either!”
Kakashi shakes him, taps his cheek. “Iruka, come back, please.”
Iruka tries to say I’m sorry Kakashi but what passes his lips is a murmured, “‘Mercy,’ saith the Altar, ‘is found only in shadow.’”
~
Sakura stands in front of him solemnly. “We gave him a high enough dose of tranquilizer that he shouldn’t even dream, Kakashi-sensei. My team—”
Kakashi holds up a hand to stop her from speaking. He knows he doesn’t look good, knows he hasn’t been home in over forty-eight hours, but he can’t… he can’t stop. Iruka… “What about the scroll that was in his room?”
“Naruto said Iruka-sensei had him collect it from his home office,” Sakura says. “But no one can read it. We have been able to determine that it’s in the same language as the carvings he transcribed from his back, though.”
Kakashi looks up. “The cavern he and his team had been in—where were they?”
Sakura turns to the map hanging up in his office, and points, “East of here, near a village on the coast. Naruto mentioned—”
“The scroll is from Uzushio,” Kakashi muses, “and it has an Uzumaki clan seal on it. I’ll bet we’ll find more information about all this in the ruins of Uzushio.”
Sakura nods. “But Kakashi-sensei, you can’t—”
“I know.” He sighs. “Take Naruto and go. Find out what’s causing this. Find out how to fix it.”
She nods again and turns to leave.
“Sakura,” he calls out, softer. She stops, but doesn’t turn back to face him. That’s good; he might not be able to say this to her face. “This part comes not from your Hokage, but from me, personally. Please. He’s… Iruka’s everything. Please, find something.”
She gives him a thumbs-up over her shoulder, and says, “We won’t let you down, sensei.”
~
Kakashi watches from the windows as the nurses check Iruka’s vitals and change out his fluids. She bows to him when she’s done and then turns to leave; Kakashi holds up a palm and says, “Wait.”
“Hokage-sama?”
“How… How is he?”
She smiles softly, gently. “We’re taking good care of him, sir.”
“That’s all Sakura told you to tell me, isn’t it?”
“Yes, Hokage-sama.”
He sighs. “Thank you. Is there anything I can do to help?”
Her smile turns just the tiniest bit mischievous. “A higher budget for the hospital in the next fiscal quarter wouldn’t be remiss, Hokage-sama.”
He waves her away, “I’ll see what I can do,” he says with as much humor as he can muster. She leaves, and he goes to sit in his chair by Iruka’s side.
They had to intubate him today. Kakashi couldn’t get away from the desk long enough to be here for him; not that it mattered, because they were keeping him sedated even before shoving a tube down his throat. But it matters to Kakashi because he can’t…
He can’t do anything.
He’s stuck here, managing the village, while his students are out looking for answers to whatever mysterious illness his partner has fallen to. And all he’s good for is holding Iruka’s hand, and maybe going and lobbying for an increase in the hospital budget.
His hair is limp and matted from long weeks in the hospital. Kakashi runs his fingers through the ends of brunet strands and hopes that, when Iruka wakes up, he’ll let Kakashi wash his hair.
“Please get better,” Kakashi murmurs into the clasp of their hands. “I need you. Please.”
~
“Sakura-chan.”
“Yeah?”
“I’m getting real sick of goddesses thinking they can ruin everything, y’know?”
“Yeah.”
Mercy is found only in shadow.
~
“He needs another blood transfusion.”
“Take mine,” Kakashi offers. “We have the same blood type.”
“Hokage-sama—”
“Just take the damn blood,” Kakashi snaps. “Whatever he needs, please, just. Just do it. Take it.”
The nurses bow. “Yes, sir.”
Footsteps in the hall, rapidly approaching, signal Kakashi to a messenger. He stands up and crosses to the door just as Shikamaru slides it open, panting from his run.
Shikamaru turns to the nurses and says, “He needs a bone marrow transplant.”
The nurse looks at him, startled, and says, “Whyever for?”
“Naruto sent ahead a messenger.” Shikamaru glances at Kakashi and finally catches his breath. “The one word Iruka-sensei had said, Freol? It’s the name of an ancient deity of the Land of Whirlpools, one whose purview is to change its followers. One of the ways it does this, as Sakura describes it, is through a kind of radiation poisoning.”
“But that doesn’t explain the,” Kakashi gestures vaguely, and then ends helplessly, “speaking in tongues.”
“The message said they’ll explain that part when they get home,” Shikamaru says. “Naruto and Sakura are on their way back, arrival is estimated at thirty-one hours.” He turns to the nurse. “Can we perform a transplant?”
She hums thoughtfully. “Normally, I’d say yes. But Iruka-sensei doesn’t have any close blood relatives, and if his own marrow is compromised as you say we can’t assume an autologous transplant will be effective.”
Kakashi’s heart stops. “But—”
“But,” the nurse continues, “we can start him on a treatment regimen which will increase his white blood cell count. We’ll start checking in with frequent blood tests. We can also start on a broad-spectrum heavy metals sequestration; we’ll cover Iodine, thallium, caesium, plutonium, and curium. They’re the most common.”
Kakashi motions to her, and says to Shikamaru, “She’s my favorite.”
“You shouldn’t have favorites, Kakashi-sama.”
He groans. The nurse smiles and says, “I’ll go order those tests and treatments,” and then ducks around Shikamaru and leaves.
~
Kakashi holds the scroll open on his desk, reading the translation Sakura and Naruto brought back. It’s a puzzle in its own right, but coupled with the Uzumaki scroll Iruka had kept in their office, Kakashi finds himself even more thoroughly confused.
“I understand how you came to the conclusion of radiation,” he says. “But I don’t understand how this is supposed to explain why Iruka began speaking the language. Because that is what happened, isn’t it?”
“That’s where a little bit of Iruka-sensei knowledge comes in handy,” Naruto says. He steps forward and points to a line near the bottom. “‘Many others can open the way. Few can place a seal where there was none before.’ And then I remembered this one, off-hand comment Iruka-sensei had made when we were kids. That the people from Uzushio were really good with fūinjutsu.”
“And that has to do with Iruka?”
“Kakashi-sensei,” Naruto groans, like he’s the genius and Kakashi is being deliberately stupid. “Umino is an Uzushio family! ‘Few can place a seal where there was none before’! I’ve seen him do that, just, poof, barrier seals.”
“Naruto, I know he’s from Uzushio. What does that have to do with his condition?”
“Freol,” Sakura says. “When he and the other chūnin got close to that cave. She recognized him as one of hers and marked him.”
“How can you be sure?”
“Because the same thing happened to Naruto when we got close.”
Kakashi stands up, vaults over the desk and puts his hands on Naruto’s shoulders. “You’re alright?”
“Kurama beat her up and kept me safe,” Naruto nodded. “But I could hear her. She said something like, ‘the flames will consume, or change, or seal at my whim.’ She was angry.”
Kakashi sighs and drops his hands. “And even Kurama doesn’t recognize this goddess?”
“Actually, once they came into contact, he did recognize her,” Naruto says. “Freol was a protector of the Land of Whirlpools, he says, a creator of soldiers superior to ninja.”
“Superior?”
Sakura interjects, motioning back to the scrolls on his desk. “Right here, see. ‘Hers is the flame which hides in the flesh and the soul and twists both into something new.’ But also, this line, ‘What is left behind is Changed, and may Change others in turn.’”
“Kurama was able to tell us about Uzushio as it once was, back in the warring states,” Naruto continues. “That there would be those who would willingly sacrifice themselves to Freol, for the chance to Change into something more. Something different.”
“A superior soldier,” Kakashi muses. “And this Change. This is what’s happening to Iruka.”
Both of them nodded. “That’s what we think.”
“How do we stop it?”
“That’s the thing,” Sakura’s face falls. “I don’t think there’s a way to stop the process once it starts. Freol marks those she wishes to undergo the Change, and then… Well, all of the writings we managed to find say that the sacrifices either come out stronger, or their families seal their bodies into stasis, or—”
She stops, choking on tears she fights back with every bit of training she’d gone through.
“Or they die,” Kakashi finishes in a soft, defeated voice.
All three of them stand silent in the office for a long time.
~
Kakashi finds himself sleeping in Iruka’s hospital room most nights. The treatment is hell on his partner’s body—the windows are covered with heavy curtains now, to keep out the sunlight which could very easily burn his skin on the medication; hair which was once limp and matted is now starting to fall out every time Kakashi pulls a brush through it; his lips are chapped and broken around the tube, his skin dry and thin everywhere else. The nurses had to change his IV from his arm to the back of his hand today, because the veins in his arm are becoming too thin to support the needle.
He’s dying.
Iruka’s dying, and all Kakashi can do is hold his hand and watch.
And, gods, the last thing they said to each other… Iruka was speaking a different language and Kakashi was begging him to wake up.
Will he really have to watch Iruka die, knowing that he’ll never get to hear I love you from those lips again?
Kakashi buries his face in his arms, carefully arranged over Iruka’s thigh. He used to have such thick, muscular thighs; it’s barely skin and bone now.
Alone, with only his dying partner to hear—or not—Kakashi lets himself cry.
~
“I’m going to try something.”
“Naruto, please—”
“No. Kakashi-sensei, Iru-nii is strong. And Freol won’t pursue him if he goes through the Change, right?”
“There’s no guarantee of that.”
“He’ll be stronger, just like the other sacrifices who survived. Kakashi-sensei, all Iru-nii needs to do is survive.”
“The Change—”
“We’ll deal with it when we’re on the other side of this!”
Naruto places his hands on Iruka, and the Nine-Tail’s Cloak bubbles up around him.
The monitors, registering Iruka’s nervous system, don’t react. He’s in no further pain.
Kakashi feels the tiniest bit lighter. “I hope this works, Naruto.”
“It was Kurama’s idea,” the teen grins. “He remembered that normal healing jutsu wasn’t working before; but he was able to beat back Freol himself when she came after me. So letting Iru-nii use Kurama’s chakra as a kind of life support—it should keep Freol from making this worse at least, right? While he gets better?”
It doesn’t make sense. It shouldn’t work.
But it does.
~
Almost a week later, the nurses are removing the tubes from his throat, and Kakashi is pacing the room waiting for the tranquilizers to wear off. Iruka should wake up any minute now. Naruto’s plan worked. Iruka made it through, and his most recent blood test showed no abnormalities due to radiation. They stopped the heavy metal sequestration yesterday, but the white blood cell proteins will continue for a few days still, to help prevent further infection.
They still don’t know what kind of change Iruka’s undergone. At least, other than the physical.
His hair is gone. Sakura has assured Kakashi that it will grow back. It’s so odd, though, seeing his partner without hair. They’ve put a cap on his head to keep him warm—his body temperature has been fluctuating oddly the last day and a half, and in particular today he’s running cold.
Also, his scent has changed. He hasn’t told anyone about it yet, but Iruka smells different. Less like old parchment and a swift river, and more like… like a waterfall and the deep, loamy scent of rich, black earth. It’s not a bad change. But it’s significant. He’s already taken an overnight to summon the pack and have his ninken memorize Iruka’s new scent, just in case it’s permanent.
“K’shi?”
He’s across the room in a flash, holding Iruka’s limp hand and holding back tears.
“I thought—”
“My K’shi,” Iruka slurs, turning his head to face him and closing his eyes, a soft smile on his lips.
The tears fall anyway. “I thought I was going to lose you.”
Iruka hums. “L’ve you.”
He’s still on a considerable amount of pain medication, Kakashi realizes. He laughs wetly, leans forward and kisses Iruka’s forehead. “I love you, too. Rest, dear.”
“M’kay.”
And just like that, he is breathing slow and steady, his eyes close gently, and he is sleeping peacefully for the first time in months. Kakashi falls back into his chair with a huff and tips his head to the ceiling, still holding Iruka’s hand, and also, finally, finding an easy sleep.

The group of ninjas ran to Hana’s body after they were free from the barrier that held them back. She was laying in a pool of her own blood. There was a gash on her side. Akito had stabbed her pretty good before Hana was finally able to stop him.
Kakashi was having trouble breathing. Here was his pup on the brink of death because she had to sacrifice her own life to protect everybody else, to protect him. He couldn’t do this.
Gai noticed that Kakashi stopped running with the rest of them.
“Kakashi what’s wrong?” Gai walked towards him. He cupped Kakashi’s face with his hand.
“I can’t do this Gai. I can’t watch her die.” Tears were flowing down his face.
Gai pulled Kakashi’s forehead to his.
“Rival, I know how scared you might be right now. I know I’m terrified right now but we promised when we adopted Hana that we would be with her always. And right now she needs us. So whenever you’re ready, we’ll go over together okay?” Gai held out his hand to Kakashi.
Kakashi took a breath. Gai was right. Their daughter needed them. Kakashi took hold of Gai’s hand and both of them ran towards Hana and the group.
Rin was trying her hardest to heal Hana but the girl’s body was mutilated beyond repair. Hana had already lost so much blood already.
Rin could feel herself getting frustrated. This was no time to lose concentration.
Hana was still conscious surprisingly but she could feel herself slipping away.
“Rin..rin..” Hana’s voice was scratchy.
“Hana! Don’t exert yourself.” Rin was using her medical voice on Hana.
“Rin,,it’s okay. You can stop.” Hana heard the collective cry of dissent from the group surrounding her.
Rin looked at Hana. This went on for a second before Rin relented. The medic went to stand by Obito.
“What’s wrong! Why did you stop?” Kiba was angry.
“Kiba. It’s alright there was nothing more she could do for me.” Hana could feel herself struggling to talk.
Kakashi and Gai moved closer to Hana. They both knelt down by their daughter.
“Hey pup.” Kakashi smiled sadly at Hana.
“I’m so sorry, Kakashi.” Hana was crying.
“No, no darling don’t cry. You have nothing to apologize about okay.” Gai took his daughter’s hand.
“Your Dad is right pup. We’re so proud of you.” Kakashi stroked Hana’s hair out of the way.
“Stay with me.” Hana was scared.
“Always.”
Kakashi’s statement was echoed by the group.
Hana looked at every person. They all became her family in the couple of years she lived in Konoha. And she even got her Suna family back too. She took a few seconds to remember Baki. She would be seeing him soon though.
“Gaara, Kankuro, and Temari. Promise me that you guys will take care of eachother.”
Gaara nodded his head. Tears started to fall from his face. Kankuro gave Hana a look like he would never dare to leave his siblings. Temari held onto Shikamaru’s hand and gave a nod.
“Lee, Kiba, and Shikamaru take care of them and treat them respectfully like I know they’ll treat you.”
The three shinobi’s gave her a salute and went over to console their partners.
“Asuma you better treat Kurenai correctly or I’ll come back and haunt your ass.”
“Don’t you worry, Hana. I got this one.” Kurenai gave a teary laugh.
Hana smiled and continued to talk to the rest of the group. She told Obito and Rin that they better get married. Obito promptly turned red but promised Hana he would. Rin was already crying heavily on Obito’s shoulder, frustrated that she couldn’t save her closest friend.
Next she told Inoichi, Shikaku, and Choza, thank you for being the best adopted uncles a girl could ask for. Hinata and Shino were told to take care of eachother.
Naruto and Kiba were told that they were her best cousins and to tell Aunt Kushina, Aunt Tsume, and Uncle Minato that she loves them.
Hana told Tenten and Neji thank you for all the training practice they give her and she wishes them luck in whatever they decide to do in their future.
Ino and Sakura were told that the sleepovers the three had were probably the best nights of her life. The girls all shared one last laugh.
Hana thanked Choji, Sai, and Rock Lee were told thank you for all the times they went out to eat and the cool restaurants they visited.
Hana gave stern instructions to Sasuke about how to treat Naruto. Sasuke gave her a firm nod.
The Legendary Sannin were individually thanked for not only training Hana to her highest potential but for also being her Grandparents. Something she never had before. Lady Tsunade was ashamed of herself. She was unable to heal Hana because of damage taken in a fight earlier.
Finally there was Genma, Kakashi, and Dad.
“Genma, I really am sorry. I wish.. I just..” Hana wanted to say I love you but it got stuck in her throat.
Genma smiled at her.
“I love you forever and always. And I promise you that we will meet again and it will be like we never left each other.”
With those words, Hana felt like she wanted to stay so bad but the pain in her body was spreading and she knew it could never be.
“I’ll hold you to that promise.”
Kakashi could see the life starting to drain from her eyes. He moved to cradle his daughter against his chest.
Gai moved in front of Hana as Kakashi held her up.
“Dad and Kakashi thank you for being the best parents to me. I love you guys so much and please don’t feel any regret or guilt. This was my choice.”
Hana’s eyes were starting to close.
“It’s alright pup, we’ll be fine. Rest now, you deserve it.”
Just then something enveloped Hana’s body. Something that didn’t feel like Death bringing her home.
Bonus:
The smell of blood everywhere.
People screaming. So tired.
So very tired.
“HANA!”
“HANA!”
Hana sprang up off her bed, throwing the covers off in the process. Her brain was moving at a mile a minute.
There was war. She fought in it. She killed Akito but she was injured badly to the point were she should be dead.
Hana’s hands moved around her body checking for injuries.
so is this heaven?
The room Hana was in looked like a regular apartment. She stood up and walked to the window.
Hana gasped. Outside the sun was shining on an intact Leaf Village. Citizens were walking up and down the streets. Kids were laughing together and playing ninja. There weren’t dead bodies on the ground or destroyed buildings.
She took one step back from the window.
Where am I?

Let Me Love You
Alright so this is what I’ve been working on for the past week! I hope you enjoy
Summary: Shikamaru never planned to fall for Ino’s best friend, and he definitely never planned to do about it. When he insisted on training with her, he just wanted to make her happy, how does he end up asking to kiss her? He’s surprised to find her heart might have room for him afterall. Lemon.
FFN | AO3
Shikamaru laid on his back on the grass, finally enjoying a bit of relaxation after training with Asuma. He sat back and watched the clouds. Something that always brought him comfort, he always grasped what shred of laziness he could spare these days. Oftentimes now, he took this time to think, instead of blankly staring at the clouds. He reminisced about some of the past times in his life, and how he never got to do this much anymore. Sometimes he thought back on training sessions, and what his squad needed to work on, or tried to think of new formations they could make with their jutsu. Really, at least this time, he was thinking about a certain girl, once again. She was slowly invading his thoughts the last couple weeks, despite how troublesome he found most women.
He thought about all the things that have happened to his team, the Rookie 9, and to her. The Third Hokage was assassinated by his own student. Sasuke took off after the chunin exams to pursue Orochimaru. He even left her unconscious on a bench. Naruto was off training with Jiraiya, with the promise to bring back the person she loved. Kakashi had continually taken long term missions, and seemingly abandoned her to deal with the pain alone. She seemed almost in a limbo, even while she was under the instruction of the Godaime.
He thought more and more about the way things have turned out for his classmates. He could never imagine trying to kill Asuma. Or to leave Ino crying for him, let alone on a bench in the middle of the night. Even if he was well aware the bothersome blonde had no romantic feelings for him, he still couldn’t picture breaking someone like Sasuke had done to Sakura Haruno. How he created so much self-doubt in Naruto. He felt bitter towards the ninja who didn’t even witness the pain he inflicted upon people that Shikamaru was now close to. He could never understand how Sasuke thought power and revenge was more important than his own team.
More important than Sakura. When he had left, there was something in her that broke. He knew it had been her heart, you could see it in the way her smiles hardly reached her eyes anymore. In the way she carried herself now, she seemed to try and keep her emotions more hidden, except for when she was angry or truly hurt. He never realized how much he loved her smile, until she stopped smiling.
Somewhere along the way, Ino had managed to get them to hang out one time. She made an off hand comment about Sakura needing to spend more time with smart people, and joked that he should teach her how to play shogi. When Sakura smiled even as she chastised her friend for getting in her business, he couldn’t resist the idea. Besides, it wouldn’t hurt to have another person to play shogi with, being as his Dad was ever busy, and Asuma couldn’t play as often now. Jounin ninja ever since the attack almost always had a directive from the Fifth if they weren’t training an up-coming squad of ninja.
He sighed softly before resting his eyes and clearing his head. He could never quite truly clear it of the colours of rosy pink hair and teal coloured eyes. How it felt the past few weeks to just be in her presence. How smart she was, as he soon found out when they played a game of shoji. He knew she had been top of her class, but there’s a difference in memorizing information, and being able to think out the moves to make in any situation.  They had fallen into a routine of playing a game or two weekly, and it seemed he only fell even further for her as he spent more time with her.
Memories of her flitted through his mind, like the way she chewed her bottom lip when she thought about her next move. Or how she felt in his arms when she would tackle him after he let her win, complaining that it wasn’t a real win if he allowed it. How the smell of her jasmine perfume invaded his senses when she had been so close to him. The musical sound of her laughter. The small smiles that had formed on her face, genuine even if they didn’t reach her eyes.
He sighed and shook his head once again. What a drag, he was supposed to be relaxing and yet he couldn’t relax when he thought about her.
Of course, leave it to him to end up in the troublesome situation of falling for the girl who already had her sights set on someone else. He wouldn’t be so arrogant to think he could sway her feelings, it seemed childish almost to try and change it. No matter how much he knew Sasuke didn’t deserve even an ounce of the friendship or love that Naruto and Sakura held for him so strongly.
He stood up from his spot and sighed before he heard shuffling. He turned his head towards the noise before finding the very being of his thoughts, standing there with her leather gloves on, clearly coming to train. She had this look of determination on her face, but there was a twinge of disappointment in her eyes.
“Oh, hey Shikamaru!” She smiled softly. “It’s okay, I’ll find another training ground! I wouldn’t want to intrude on your cloud watching.” She turned to leave.
She had only just got here, he didn’t want her to leave yet.
He inwardly scrambled for something to say to stop her too-soon departure.“Sakura, do you have a training partner?” He jogged towards her. “You usually have Tsunade with you don’t you?” He inquired.
He realized how lame that might have sounded, or maybe even rubbing salt into the wound of her disappointment since Tsunade was clearly absent today.
Was there even a way to have a strategy for love, and trying to gain it?
Sakura laughed nervously. “She’s got a lot of hokage business today. And, you know Naruto is gone and Kakashi-sensei is on yet another mission…” There was a tinge of sadness in her voice as she explained herself even further.
He knew no ninja cared for pity, and he didn’t want to come off that way. But he also knows training by yourself only gets you so far. And that she hated to be alone. He tried for a casual smile towards her before shrugging his shoulders. He really did try to be there for his friends, and the sadness in her voice made it clear she wasn’t thrilled about the situation. “Well, I’ll train with you today. I’m not busy or anything.”
Sakura's eyes widened. “Oh, no you don’t have to, Shikamaru!” She looked off to the side a bit. “I know you were cloud watching, really, I don’t want to interrupt.”
“Nah, I was just finished. Come on, you only gain so much from training alone. What were you going to work on today?”
Sakura couldn’t help the shy smile that graced her lips then. She looked up at Shikamaru, meeting his chocolate eyes this time. “I was going to work on taijutsu. Tsunade is teaching me how to channel chakra into my attacks to make them stronger. I also need to learn to dodge better…”
Ino had gone to Sakura’s after training to find she was gone. She imagined she may have been training with Tsunade, so she picked up some food and headed back to the training grounds. She was surprised to find Sakura alone, without Tsunade approaching the training ground she had left only 20 minutes ago. And then she smiled as she realized Shikamaru was still there, and was probably cloud watching.
Shika hadn’t said anything but she had noticed how he seemed to glance at Sakura just a little longer these days whenever they ran into her friend as a team. Or how sometimes he seemed concerned about her being left behind by her team, asking why nothing was done about it. Asuma gave a knowing smile when he mentioned it, and told him that he could do something about it if he felt so concerned about it.
This really turned into Ino doing something about it because Shikamaru just huffed at his response, and only Ino noticed the slightest tinge of pink in his face he had that day. Ino started inviting Sakura to train with them occasionally then, before one day insisting they start to hang out. Really, she just wanted to see both of them happy.
She got a little closer so she could hear when they spoke. When Shikamaru suggested he train with her, Ino beamed. There’s no one else she would ever trust to be so kind to Sakura, it was why she had set them up a few weeks back. She was surprised he went out of his way to do it, considering he wasn’t usually one to volunteer himself. All the more proof showing he had some sort of affection for her. She ran off to tell Choji, giggling with delight all the while to find him.
Sakura and Shikamaru had been sparring for about half an hour at this point, just exchanging blows. It wasn’t without the occasional snide comments to each other, as Sakura loved to chat.
Sakura smirked softly before landing a kick to his side. “You know, it’s not really training when you go easy on me, Shikamaru.”
He raised an eyebrow at her before shaking his head. “You’re just as troublesome as Ino. Why do you think I’m going easy on you?” But he smiled even just slightly as he said it. “I’m not, but I’m not trying to actually hurt you either, woman.”
He grabbed hold of her leg when she went to kick him again and pushed it to the side in an attempt to make her lose balance.
“I’m not fragile. Tsunade hits me with chakra punches, I think I can handle your normal ones.” She chided as she caught herself from falling. She lunged at him, going for his side when he grabbed her wrist and twisted, bringing her arm behind her.
She felt how firm his chest was against her arm and back but tried to shake away those invasive little thoughts that crossed her mind.
“Taijutsu isn’t my strong suit, I’m more of a ranged shinobi, as I’m sure you should know already.”
She tensed slightly as she felt his breath brush across her neck as he spoke. She nodded. “Ah, yes that’s right.” She smirked and hooked her foot behind his ankle and pulled, sending him to the ground as she turned and crossed her arms. “Perhaps this is good training for both of us then.”
He landed flat on his back, surprised by her move. He looked up at her and was caught for a moment at the sight of her. She stood, staring down at him with a happy glint in her turquoise eyes he hadn’t seen for at least two years. Her hair reached a little past her shoulders now as it blew around in the slight breeze. Her hips were cocked to one side as she gazed at him with amusement even though her arms were crossed. She had a thin sheen of sweat that glistened across her skin, and it did nothing but add to his attraction. It had caught him off guard, but she looked beautiful in that moment, especially with the clouds behind her as a backdrop.
She watched as Shikamaru seemed to gaze at her for a little bit longer before she felt heat rushing to her face. “H-Hey, what are you looking at?” She snapped.
“You have a pretty smile…” He said without really thinking.
Oh man, this is about to be a drag.
He quickly stood up as his own face became dusted with a light shade of pink. He rubbed the back of his head. “I mean…” He trailed off, not quite sure how to dig himself out of this one.
Sakura only became more flustered. “I...oh?” She bit the inside of her cheek nervously, not sure what to say. “Thank you…” She gave a shy smile.
He returned with his own sheepish smile. “I… uh. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I know that you…” He didn’t know if bringing up Sasuke was a good idea he realized as he trailed off.
Sakura took a step closer and set a reassuring hand on his chest. “You didn’t make me uncomfortable at all, Shika. Thank you…” She looked up at him and she was smiling so brightly, it reached her eyes which were so warm now. “It means a lot to me, actually.”
He watched her for a moment, before wishing he knew how to handle this situation a little better. Really, everyone knew her heart was out to Sasuke, so was there really a point in trying? But her hand was on his chest and she was smiling at him so tenderly, so what did that mean for him?
Since when did he feel strongly enough to want to try?
It had to be her smile, and how he had been the one to make her that happy. He brought a hand up to cup one side of her face as he made eye contact with her. “Sakura, you do know you look beautiful, right?” He said softly.
Her lack of confidence in herself made no sense to him, but he had to try. She was a stunning kunoichi all around in his eyes.
She blushed even deeper now before staring into his dark brown eyes. She wasn’t used to someone being so close. And it was a bit of a shock coming from Shikamaru.
But now some of Ino’s odd behaviour started making sense, like how every time she went out with Team 10, she somehow ended up sitting next to Shikamaru instead of Ino, and the couple times she trained with them, she ended up paired with him. Or when she tried to ask her about dating that one time.
She gazed into his eyes, seeing how warm and inviting they were as he looked at her so tenderly. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she compared it to the coldness that she always found in Sasuke’s gaze, but it seemed so distant now. It made her nervous all the same.
“I...uh.” she stuttered nervously.
She would have been lying if she tried to act like Shikamaru wasn’t attractive. She was flustered at the sudden attention he seemed to be paying attention to her, or was it so sudden? Had he looked at her like that before and she just didn’t notice? It made her feel giddy and nervous to be the object of his piercing gaze. It felt like he could see right through her. She could never tell what he was thinking, but he was clear enough in voicing he liked what he saw. She chewed on the inside of her cheek, not sure what to say, thinking his hands felt nice even if they were a little calloused.
She began thinking of how he has always made her feel like she mattered the last few weeks, how this lazy genius she calls her friend always made time for her. How gentle he seemed to be holding her at this exact moment, and the awe in his gaze when he was on the ground moments ago when he looked up at her.
She gently gripped his shirt with the hand that still rested on his chest as she felt him lean closer, anticipating what she thought, and ever dared hope what was coming next.
He took a step closer and leaned in towards her slightly. “Can I kiss you?” He spoke the question so softly as he slowly moved his hand to thread into her hair.  He didn’t want to make her feel pressured. “You don’t have to say ye-”
And he felt soft lips just barely brush his own. His eyes slid closed as he brought his other hand to her hip, and deepened the kiss just a bit. Her hands moved to wrap around his neck. It was timid and shy, clearly the first for her(not to his surprise), but it was so sweet and gentle.
His face felt like it was on fire as he pulled back a bit. He gazed at her, surprise clear in his chocolate shaded eyes, but also something akin to delight.
She stared back up at Shikamaru, her lips still just barely parted. She could feel his chest against her own, how surprisingly toned he was compared to how lithe he looked. She could smell the layer of sweat that shined off his skin in the sun from their sparring moments ago. She took comfort in how firm yet gentle his grip on her was. It felt nice to be close to someone, she thought to herself, as she smiled up at him.
“Sakura… ” He pulled his hand back from her pink tresses to rest on her cheek. “I don’t mean to be a drag, but I… ” He stumbled for words, how do you even begin this conversation? Is the kiss enough, does he have to voice it?
“I liked it…” She spoke softly, before looking over him once more. “How...long?” Her eyes were full of curiosity, and happiness.
“Awhile…” He sighed. “I’ve always been concerned about you since everything happened, and especially since Naruto left. You were always…” He didn’t know what to say. He didn’t want to insult her, especially because he was well aware she had a killer punch once she was angry. “Alone.”
“I always found myself wanting to comfort you, to be there for you.” He laughed nervously. “Emotions are such a drag, you know? I don’t know how to explain them very well…”
She bit her lip softly. “Shika…” She placed both her hands against the sides of his face.
“And I mean, who am I compared to Sasuke?” He gave a half smile as he stroked her cheekbone with his thumb. “Competitions are immature, especially ones you know you can’t win…”
A flash of guilt went through her aquamarine hues and she looked away.
She knew not everyone cared as deeply for Sasuke as her and Naruto, that most people saw him as a traitor now. Most people didn’t understand. But Shikamaru always understood, even if he didn’t agree with it.
It wasn’t a secret to her and Naruto. She knew that even though the rest of the Rookie 9 respected them enough to keep their opinions to themselves, and even help try to bring him back, that most of them were bitter towards the Uchiha. Who could blame them, when they were the ones that had to witness the pain her and Naruto felt all the time. No one could like someone who hurt people they cared about.
Shikamaru frowned, instantly regretting his words. He gently turned her face back towards him. “Sakura, that’s not how I meant that…” He sighed even deeper. “I just… I know you love him, so why would I tell you how I feel, it wouldn’t change that, and it wouldn’t change us, now would it?”
She stared at Shikamaru in wonder. He was so full understanding, not a hint of the judgement she was used to when in regards to Sasuke. He always was, but at this moment, she had begun fearing he would get angry and turn away. He hadn’t, he had only held on more, giving her more honesty and it made her heart swell more with the little bit of feelings she had started developing for him recently.
Shikamaru was here, and Sasuke wasn’t. He made her feel wanted, and the time she had spent with him lately were becoming some of the happier moments she had now. She wondered that as time went, if she would ever even pine for the vengeful raven anymore, as she slowly fell for the genius.
Shikamaru was looking at her so tenderly, but there was a hint of sadness in those eyes that suddenly reminded her of coffee in the late mornings they shared a couple of times over games of shoji.
“What if I said it could…?” She whispered to more herself than him. But he was a shinobi just like she was, and he had definitely heard it.
“Sakura..?”
“You…” She struggled to find words that didn’t sound awkward or cheesy. “I… don’t feel so alone when I’m with you. I feel happy.”
Shikamaru stared at her for another moment before kissing her again.
Sakura gasped softly into the kiss before returning it eagerly. She rested her hands on the sides of his neck as various things fled through her little pink head. They were fast and fleeting but somehow still focused as she moved her mouth against his, not exactly smoothly as it was now her only second kiss.
Shikamaru, the one who said women are such a drag, was kissing her. He had done everything but outright confess to her.
She felt her heart beating out of her chest as butterflies seemed to fill her stomach.
His body felt hard against hers, or maybe he was just tense.
She wanted this, wanted him.
She liked the way he embraced her, tight enough to express he didn’t want her to go, but gentle enough that she could have pulled away if she had wanted to.
Shikamaru was here and cared about her and her day and her feelings and even her damn training.
Her face burned with a hot blush.
And the most apparent thought, she liked every bit of it.
She hummed as Shikamaru seemed to grow a little more confident as he swiped his tongue along her bottom lip. She timidly parted her lips for him, moving one of her hands to his hair, almost daring to tug the strands out of its hold, curious about what it looked like when it was down. He pulled her closer, her body pressed right up against his, as he swirled his tongue around her own. His grip on her hips tightened before he raised one hand to gently tilt her head and thread his fingers into her hair, giving him better access.
She pulled away with a soft gasp, needing air to breathe from. “Shika…” She panted softly before looking up at him. She caught his eyes and was surprised by the intensity that she found in them. She bit her lip nervously as she tried to maintain his gaze.
She wondered what was going through his head that moment. He was never one she could read well. She was pretty sure that was why he always beat her in shoji, when he wasn’t letting her win. Or maybe it was because she would be trying to focus on not watching the way his eyes scanned the board. Sometimes her mind wandered even further, wondering what his hands felt like when she watched him move pieces.
She could confirm now that they had a firm grip, and were a little calloused and felt rough against the smooth skin of her neck or her cheek. It was a near perfect contrast, even though she knew her hands were just as callous as his from leading the life of a ninja.
“Do...you want to come to my place?” She asked him softly.
His eyes widened a bit at the request.
He wanted to, but he was feeling a need he couldn’t dare expect her to satiate. He didn’t think that a kiss would draw him so far into his own desires. He just wanted to show her he cared, to express something he couldn’t quite get out in words. Just one kiss sparked his need within to be with her that went farther than just her company or his want to comfort her.
“Sakura, I…” He felt his face flush again. “I don’t know if that's the best idea…” He disentangled himself from her slowly and took a step back. “I think I need to go uhm… Cool off.” He rubbed the back of his back, feeling rather embarrassed.
“Oh, uh…” She wasn’t stupid, she was more than well aware what he meant. She felt hot all over from that second kiss even as tender as it still was. She nodded slightly in understanding. “If you change your mind…” She couldn’t help the tinge of hope that laced her voice.
He looked at her a moment before leaning back down and placing a kiss over her forehead. “I’ll see you, Sakura…” He really wasn’t sure what else he could possibly say to her that wasn’t awkward or weird.
He backed off almost reluctantly, wishing he could accept her offer to come to her home. He turned and walked away, but not before giving her a sheepish grin. He started walking towards home, even though he really wanted to turn around and go home with her.
But he feared she was just caught in the moment, and he didn’t want her to regret something, or for it to ruin their friendship. All these contradicting thoughts he had were troublesome and he was beginning to wonder how he let himself fall for her in the first place.
Then he remembered all the things she said, and how happy she had looked as she gazed up at him. That she had liked when he kissed her. Or how she didn’t feel so alone when she was with him.
He took a deep breath as he turned to look behind him even as he swore at himself that it was going to be the mistake that did him in. As his gaze fell back on her form, she had walked the opposite direction towards her apartment. He could see the slight slump in her shoulders, the disappointment in being turned down, even after he made the first move. Her head hung low and it caused a stabbing pain to throb in his chest.
He stopped as the realization dawned on him that he had just hurt her. He had hurt her, right after she had just told him that he made her feel happy. He didn’t want to be the reason she was hurting, he wanted to be the person that made her smile, just as brightly as she was just moments before he stepped away from her.
It couldn’t be the right thing to do if it made her look so upset. He couldn’t bear to be the one causing her to doubt herself, to feel like she did something wrong, or like she wasn’t enough. He couldn’t let her believe she was anything less than wonderful. The ink-haired man sighed as he took the next turn swiftly, heading towards her place. He picked up his pace, easily maneuvering around anyone else on the same path.
He got there first. It didn’t surprise him considering the brisk pace he had developed and the slow one she had had. He waited silently on her porch, leaning against the door frame, watching in the direction he knew she would come from.
He had been so focused on watching for Sakura that he was startled at the sound of Ino's higher pitched tone.
“So just what exactly are you doing here, hm?” She teased.
He huffed at her. “I… kissed Sakura.”
Ino blue orbs widened in surprise before she started fretting over him. “Shika, you did what!” She exclaimed excitedly.
“Don’t get so loud!” He hissed before his shoulders slumped. “Besides, I already fucked it up…” He sighed.
“Clearly you didn’t do something too terrible if you’re sitting on her doorstep.” She raised an eyebrow and clicked her tongue.
“I kissed her, and then she asked me to come over, and I just…” His cheeks tinted red again, before he glanced to see if he could see her down the road yet. “I didn’t want her to regret it…”
Ino’s gaze softened towards. “You mean, you didn’t want her to regret you.” She stepped right in front of Shikamaru, demanding his eye contact. “Look at me, she wouldn’t invite you over unless she had already decided it was what she wanted.” She set her hands on her hips. “And now you’ve probably gone and made her think she missed something or misread the situation.”
“But she didn’t! I just…” He sighed, frustrated with how he didn’t know how to say what he felt. “I didn’t want to hurt her, or hell I didn’t want to be hurt either.”
Ino rolled her eyes but kept her tone light. “So, then why are you here?”
Why did this friend of his always have to have her nose in other people’s business? He huffed, before reminding himself that if she hadn’t been in Sakura’s business he might have never got to spend so much time with her in the first place.
“I looked back after walking away and she just looked…” He felt so ashamed to have hurt her, even when his intentions had been the opposite. “She looked so hurt, and she had been smiling moments before I ruined it. And I can’t bear to be the reason she feels so sad, and I’d be lying if I sat here and tried to act like I didn’t want to come, I just tried to do the right thing…”
Ino caught sight of pink down the road out of the corner of her eye. She smiled. “As long as you’re doing what makes her happy, you’re doing the right thing, Shikamaru…” She gave him a pat on the shoulder before making the hand signs to a transportation jutsu and disappearing.
Ino words lingered in the air for a moment as he thought about them, about how he had just had a similar thought.
He glanced back towards the street and saw her coming. He stood back away from the door frame and watched as she seemed to dread coming home, coming back to being alone. Another pain stabbed in his chest as he saw the actual expression on her face. He had started to come down the steps right as she looked up and saw him on her doorstep. He shot a smile in her direction as she picked up the pace, her own face lighting back up.
She had run straight into his arms, right into his embrace on her steps.
“Shika-” She was cut off as he melded his lips to hers again and she closed her eyes, melting into the kiss just before he pulled away too soon.
“I’m sorry…” He said softly. “I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings…” He cups her face in his hands. “I only said no because I don’t want you to make a mistake and regret… This.”
She stared at him before turning to unlock her door and step inside, and jerked him into her house with one arm. She slammed the door before shoving him against it. “You let me decide whether or not I want something…” She huffed out in slight annoyance. “And damnit, I’ve been wanting you…”
He gasped at her sudden ambition but smirked a bit before hooking his palms on the back of her thighs and hoisting her effortlessly from the ground and holding her against him. He hummed appreciatively as she instantly wrapped her legs around his waist. “Then you have me.”
One of her hands went for the band that held his hair up and slowly pulled it from his locks, tossing it aside. It fell just barely to his shoulders in layers, framing his face. It had only made him look even more handsome, and sexy as that smirk still played across his lips.
She ran her fingers through his hair, loving how thick and soft it felt as the strands slid through her fingers. She looked into his eyes, which always reminded her of something deep and dark, whether it was chocolate or coffee, or at the moment it was the tall woods of their home, safe and secure. There was emotion there that she couldn’t place there. She bit her lip in anticipation. There was some warmth developing in her chest as she looked at him and it only encouraged the nerves firing all over her skin.
He tilted his back into her touch, his breath hitching as her fingers threaded through his hair. He’d never let a girl take his hair down, not even when he was heavily drunk. It felt soothing to feel her fingers against his scalp as she incessantly stroked his hair.
“You have no idea how badly I’ve wanted to do that…” She breathed out as she finally stopped and let her arms rest and loosely wrap around his shoulders.
He licked his lips before moving to kiss her neck softly. “I think your eagerness gave that part away, Sakura…” He mumbled against her neck as he lavished her soft skin with kisses. He heard her breath catch in her throat.
“Shika…” Her legs tightened around his hips as she breathed out another sigh. “You’re going to be…”
“I know…” He whispered before moving back up her neck to peck at her jawline and catch her lips with his once more. He tried to pour every bit of affection he had for her into that kiss as he started walking towards where he knew her bedroom was.
She let out a needy whimper as his lips met hers again and she slanted hers against them. She needed something more, she wanted to feel his hands on her. She wanted to feel needed by him, like she felt the need for him. It almost felt wrong, feeling this lust for the first time.
She gasped when she felt her back fall onto the bed, with him hovering over her from the edge of the mattress, easily settling between her thighs. He looked down at her before he placed a hand over her the side of her face, his thumb stroking her cheekbone. He stared at her lovingly and it was then she suddenly felt the guilt build up in her chest.
She knew she felt something for him, and that it was more than this lust, but she couldn’t call it love. As he stared at her with such a heartfelt expression her heart squeezed and it all felt wrong now. She couldn’t bear the thought of hurting him.
“W-Wait..” She stammered, her words catching in her throat.
He hummed in response before leaning down and placing a kiss on her cheek, trailing down her jawline and nipping lightly at her smooth skin. “You can talk while I kiss you…” He mumbled between kisses, his breath flowing over her skin and making her shiver.
Her back arched and she shut her eyes tight. “I-I can’t do this, not…” She moaned out softly as he bit down on the junction of her neck and shoulder and began to suck softly on her skin there.
“N-Not after you looked at me like that.” She breathed.
“I-It’s wrong…” She whimpered as he pressed her more firmly onto her bed.
“I-I don’t feel the same… Not as…” She gasped as she slowly pulled away from her neck and licked the slight red mark he left. “Not as intensely…”
Shikamaru sat back up, resting his weight on his forearms on either side of her head. He knew that already. But he could see in her eyes as she looked at him, past the guilt, that she did care about him. And if there were any feelings in her heart for him, he wasn’t letting her go now. He never intended to let her go ever, just loving her silently for his life.
“Sakura, I never expected you to feel as strongly as I do now.” He smiled down at her. “Not yet…” He caressed her cheek.
Her heart squeezed once again at his compassion towards. “But this isn’t fair to you…” She started to drag herself away from his body, trying to slip through the gap left by his arms. “I don’t want to hurt you…”
He caught on and quickly pinned his hips against hers before entangling his hand in her hair and kissing her with everything he had. He knew she didn’t want to pull away, that she was just trying to spare his heart, but he needed her to see that he understood, that he accepted it. He was patient, and he would take whatever she would give him. He brought his other hand to grip her hip gently.
She gasped into the kiss before kissing him back, struggling to fight her desire as her morals battled it in her head. She wanted nothing but to be enveloped in his warmth and his touch and his mouth, wherever he decided to wonder with it.
He pulled back and locked his coffee coloured eyes with her aqua ones. “Sakura, please, just let me love you.” He pleaded. “I know you want this too, even if you don’t feel it as deep as I do…”
She swallowed before cupping his face in her hands, tears pricking the corners of her eyes. “You don’t deserve this, Shika…” She stared into his eyes, enthralled by all the love and affection and care and compassion found in them as his eyes pierced through her again. “You deserve someone that would be devoted to you…entirely.” She smiled softly as the tears slipped down her cheeks.
He quickly wiped her eyes before kissing both her cheeks. “Sakura, if Sasuke walked back through the village gates, right now, where would you be after you found out?”
Her eyes widened at his question. He always caught her off guard with his bluntness he had for most topics. She looked at him, asking herself that question over and over again.
All she could think about was how she was right where she wanted to be. She was in the arms of someone who made her feel important, like she mattered. She stared at Shikamaru, his hair flowing down to his shoulders, slightly wavy from being held up all the time. She bit her lip, as she thought about the way his kiss made her heart leap in her chest, how the way he held her made her feel so safe.
She thought about how everything about Sasuke was apathetic and uninviting. How he thought she was annoying, treated her like she was less than him. She thought about how distant he always was, and how he put power and revenge over everything else, even when their team had started to become like family.
She thought about how warm Shikamaru was, and how he always welcomed her in his presence, how right now he was pleading to be at her side, in her bed. How he trained with her as an equal, even when he pulled his punches in fear of hurting her. How he had always been there, and how he accepted her as she was.
She stroked her thumbs across his cheeks as she beamed a smile before leaning up and kissing him, and slowly winding her fingers into his hair again, and blushed as he groaned at her touch. She pulled away before looking into eyes, warm and inviting as always, but nervous too.
“I’d be right here. I’d be with you. Naruto could come bursting through that door right now telling me Sasuke was back, and it would still hurt, but I would stay right here, in your arms.”
His eyes widened, not expecting her to say she would choose him, knowing he had risked his heart being broken, thinking he had been stupid to ask such a question when he was trying to convince her to not push him away.
He couldn’t take it anymore as his smile stretched across his face. “Then that’s more than enough for me.” His voice was heavy with the emotions he felt constricting his heart.
She would choose him.
He crashed his lips down on hers, passion flaming fiercely as he slid his hand back into her hair, and the one gripping her hip slid under her to press their bodies close together. He felt her hands slip under his shoulders and press into his back. He nipped her bottom lip and when she gasped with a moan, he slid his tongue into her mouth and tangled it with hers. She whined with need into his demanding kiss, and he felt the surge of pleasure go straight to his center as he felt his groin tighten.
“Shikamaru, please…” She moaned into the kiss.
She shook his head as he dragged his mouth away from the kiss just to pepper more along her jawline and down her neck. “I will not rush this for you, I’m going to do this right.”
Her eyes gleamed with curiosity and she arched her back into his touch. “Right…?”
The genius hummed against her skin softly before chuckling. “You are not, nor will you ever be just a quick fuck, Sakura.” His voice sounded deep and husky now, filled with need and it ignited her arousal as a deep blush flushed her skin and down her neck.
He inched his fingertips under the red fabric of her shirt, silently making the request to run his hands across her body. She nodded and pushed herself into his touch. He bit his lip and gripped the fabric and pulled it gently over her body, leaning down to kiss the skin of her abdomen as more and more was exposed.. Her breath hitched once more and she instinctively rolled her hips against his, grinding against his own arousal. She let out a loud moan and bit her lip.
“S-Shit, I’m so-”
As soon as her shirt was on the floor his hands landed on her hips and pinned them in place to the bed. His eyes were glazed over and dark as he bit his lip before he moved his hips against hers, rubbing their clothes sexes against each other deliberately. He groaned as her back arched and she moaned his name softly.
He slid his hands up her sides, hooking his fingers on her chest binds, looking for the piece that was tucked. Finding it quickly, he unwrapped them, still grinding his hips into hers as he unravelled the binds until she was exposed, her full breasts heaving with her heavy breathing. He cupped each mound in his hands and squeezed them softly, hardening even more at the moans that fell from her lips as she arched into his touch.
“Sh-Shika… Oh god.” She moaned out needily as her nipples quickly hardened at the attention she received.
“Sakura…” He breathed before leaning down and expertly circling the tip of his tongue around a hardened nipple while he still continued his touches on her other breast.
Her moans were like music to his ears. He knew she was a virgin but he didn’t expect his touch to have this much of an effect on her. He didn’t expect her to be so open to him. She blushed and whimpered and moaned but not once did she try to hide herself from him. The amount of trust she had in him made his heart swell. She looked so beautiful as she panted from his touches.
“You’re beautiful…” He whispered against her skin.
She looked up at him before she slid her hands under his flak jacket, her fingertips gliding across his mesh top, reveling in how toned his body felt, but wanting to feel his bare skin against her own.
She huffed. “This needs to come off…” She sat up quickly, did away with the green vest they all owned, and pulled at the fabric, dragging it up his torso until it went over his head.
He gazed at her as she eased the mesh material off his body. He loved the way she seemed captivated in this moment, so focused on him. Her hands pressed firm across his skin and she slid them down to his hips before she hooked her fingers on the waistband there.
He brought a hand up to her cheek once again, kissing her soft and slow, pushing her more fully onto the bed when she had finished unbuttoning his pants, he kicked them. She shed her skirt and her shorts. She could feel how wet she was everytime she moved her legs and she whined with need.
As he climbed onto the bed, still keeping settled between her legs, his knees sunk into the mattress. He sat up and just roved over her curves, her body nearly fully exposed besides the simple but sexy red panties she wore. He noticed the wet spot near her core and he smirked, stroking his hand up and down her thigh teasingly. He placed his thumb directly over her clothed clit and began rubbing slow and deliberate circles. He used his free hand to pin her hips to the bed, putting some of his weight onto her as she writhed beneath his touch.
“Shikamaru…” She drawled out in a low, heated voice. Her back arched up off the bed once more as her mouth hung open, breathy moans falling from her soft lips every time he rolled his thumb over her clit.
He licked his lips at the sight of seeing her so aroused. “You’re so wet and worked up and I’ve barely touched you…” He mumbled, his voice still deep and husky.
He began rubbing her faster, adding a little more pressure. He watched as her body began growing tense and smirked as her legs trembled around his hips. “Sakura, you look so sexy right now, baby…”
She bit her lip and a blush stained her cheeks once more as she couldn’t help but to buck her hips against his hand. She never even thought something could feel so pleasurable. She couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone else. She could feel that her panties were thoroughly soaked with her own juices and it was slightly embarrassing. Did he think she was easy, or was he just that good with his mouth and his hands? She whimpered when she felt his hand stop completely and just press firmly against her sensitive areas, and she couldn’t help but to grind herself into the palm of his hand, looking for any sort of friction.
He hooked the waistband of those pecky little panties before twirling them around his finger. He’d decided he could buy her new ones if him ripping them off pissed her off enough. With one swift pull, the fabric easily ripped. He tossed the scraps of her last bit of clothing off to the side as she gasped, but her eyes watched him intently, scaling down his body. They left a blazing heat building behind her touch. He watched her, as she hooked her slender fingers around his boxers and tugged them down his thighs to fall to his knees. He quickly kicked them off.
And then he sunk down onto the mattress, into her embrace and warmth. Her whole body was hot to the touch, feeling their bare skin against each other. He breathed a long sigh before catching her lips in another heated kiss, pouring his love into her. Her hands went into his hair and she tugged at the long strands, keeping them out of his face.
He slowly slid his length along her entrance and against her clit, and she shook with the pleasure as she rocked her hips into his.
“Oh, Shika…” She called out between kisses. “That’s so…” He nipped her bottom lip before sucking on it and slowly grinding his hips against hers, slicking himself with her arousal.
“Fuck, you’re dripping…” He groaned before he trailed wet kisses down her neck.
“Shikamaru, please. This teasing is too much…” She whined.
He hummed in agreement before sliding his hands up her arms, pinning them to the bed, intertwining their fingers together. “If you need me to stop at any time…”
She nodded, squeezing his hands. “I know…”
He aligned himself with her entrance, pressing the tip of his length into her slightly before kissing her again, delving his tongue between her lips and swirling around her own. He loved how she moaned at everything he did, how her body pressed up into his, no matter what he did. He began sucking on her tongue and she writhed between him and her sheets, messing them up even worse. Just as her moans began to become high pitched, knowing she’d want the worse done and over with, he pushed into her in one long and quick thrust, sheathing himself to the hilt.
He let out a strangled groan at how tight she was, how much she gripped him as he sank into her heat. “Sakura, fucking hell…” He growled against her lips as his body went taut with tension. He kept still, feeling her pussy pulsating around his length. She had whimpered at first and cried out in surprise but he didn’t see any signs of pain, which was a good sign but left him confused.
She moved her hips up into his and let out a broken moan, which he thought sounded a lot like ‘Shika’. “Hymens break often when you’re physically active,” She said, an annoyed and impatient tone falling from her lips. “Nothing hurts, so don’t you dare hold back.” She snapped as she writhed once more and cried out in pleasure, dissolving whatever demanding aura she tried to have.
He smirked. “My apologies.” And then he rolled over onto his back, pulling her on top of him. He held her hips tight, and lifted her up as he pulled out until just the very tip of his erection was left inside her, before thrusting upwards as he pulled her back down on him.
He threw his head back against her pillows, his raven layers sprawling across the cushions, the smells of her arousal and just her surrounding him as he pressed into her heat, overwhelmed in the sensations. He felt her hands settle firmly on his chest as she moaned out his name.
He gazed up at her, finding the way her hair hung around her face, and stuck to her neck with sweat, absolutely stunning. He watched as her breasts bounced with every movement, licking his lips as he watched them, watched her as she didn’t hold back any of the passion he gave her. He slid his hands up her sides before cupping the mounds once again, tweaking her nipples in sync with each undulation of their hips.
“Ride me, Sakura…” He growled out.
She panted as he felt her distribute more of her weight into her arms, using his chest to support herself before she experimentally rocked her hips back and forth. The friction made him sigh, the pleasure of her taking control running through his body like an electric current. He jerked his hips up into her, moaning out her name low and heated.
She felt herself slicken even more against his member as her name slipped so freely from his lips, sounding so pleasured. She bit her lip before raising her hips and then pressing back down. She gasped as searing hot pleasure raced through her veins, and repeated the motion. She did it again and again, the urgency in her movements building as she started to get closer to the sweet bliss she knew was her first orgasm given to her by someone else. She chased it, bouncing in his lap desperately.
“Fuck, Sakura. You’re going to be the death of me…” He groaned and gripped her hips hard and guided her down onto him roughly. He felt her nails digging into his skin, her death gripping his shoulders. Moan after moan fell from her mouth, whimpers of his name filling the air, urging him on.
He rolled her over onto her back, kissing her hard and needy. Her hands pressed flat against his back, before her fingers curled and he felt her fingers digging into the skin of his shoulder blades. She pressed her body into him, her back arching as she cried out into his mouth, her legs shaking around his hips and her body shuddering. He felt her tighten around his throbbing cock as she lost herself in bliss. He kissed her neck and whispered against her skin.
“You’re so gorgeous, Sakura…” He breathed against her ear as he kept pounding into her through her first orgasm he’d given her.
He felt his back muscles tighten and he sunk deep into her warmth, nearing his own bliss. He peppered kisses across whatever skin he could reach, hugging her close and tight to his chest. He grabbed the back of her knee and raised her leg, finding a better angle.
“Sakura, I love you so much, fuck…” He moaned as he finally found his own release. He pumped into her slow and hard as he came, his seed coming out in multiple spurts as he shuddered.
He collapsed on top of her body, both of them gasping for breath. He felt her gaze on him, but he couldn’t find the energy to turn his head. He gripped her hands tighter as he buried his face into her neck, breathing in her jasmine perfume.
“That was…” She panted as a smile spread across her lips. “Incredible…”
He beamed before rolling himself off of her with effort. “You were amazing…” He sighed contentedly before pulling her into his arms. His eyes felt heavy as she cuddled up to his side, pulling up the blankets to cover them. She kissed his shoulder before sighing blissfully.
He looked down at her before kissing her forehead and gently sitting up. “I should probably go…” He didn’t expect to start instantly acting like a couple, staying in her bed. “I don’t want to-”
She shoved him back down on the bed, restoring his shoulder as her pillow. “I want you to stay…” She snipped at him.
He stared down at her, before a small smile graced his lips. “Okay, Sakura…” He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and held her tight to him.
She looked up at him and pecked his lips. “Thank you, Shikamaru…”
He nodded, kissing her forehead. “I’ll always be here for you, however you need me, Sakura…”
They fell asleep, tangled in each other’s arms.
A couple hours later, Ino came to check on Sakura. She knew her teammate struggled with his emotions, and that Sakura’s temper was hardly patient. She invited herself in, not noticing anything out of the ordinary.
“It’s awful quiet…” She narrowed her eyes, knowing the last time she came here, knowing she was home and it was this quiet, she had been in her room, asleep with her eyes tear-stained.
She sauntered up to her room, worry filling her mind. She pushed the door open, expecting to forcefully drag her friend out of bed. Ready to take her straight to Shikamaru and fix her friends up herself if she had to.
But what she found made her heart swell with love and joy for a couple of the most important people in her life. Shikamaru was lying on his back with his hair down, framing his face, and thoroughly tangled. Sakura was nestled against his side using his chest as her pillow, her pink tresses splayed across his shoulder behind her, his arm wrapped tightly around her. Their clothes were scattered about the floor around the bed. The nosy blonde smirked, as she noted scratch marks on his chest, and lovebites along her neck and shoulders, and how Sakura lips swollen with kisses. They looked so happy and she couldn’t help but smile at the sight of them. She knew they would kill her for it later, but she took a quick picture on her phone, and sent it to Sakura.
It’s about damn time Shikamaru fessed up. Happy for you, Forehead.

Harry Potter & Naruto Gen Fics
Almost all of my stories are gen so I picked out a few of my favourites to share! All stories are by FiresFromOurHearts (i.e. me).
Harry Potter
Graduation - Oliver Wood, Percy Weasley, and Penelope Clearwater have made it to graduation, somehow, against the odds. This is their last time at Hogwarts as students; this is the boat trip you leave on.
Tags: graduation, final year, last day, memories, Ravenclaw Gryffindor friendship, changes, change, growing up, final memory of Hogwarts, graduating.
the broken bones of our childhood - blaise thinks about love. about love being shovde down his throat, about a society that makes him think he wants that love, wants to grab it from the stars and let it huddle in his cupped hands. he’s young, fourteen maybe, when he reads aromantic for the first time. reads aromantic, reads asexual, reads queerplatonic relationships. and he thinks, oh, maybe this is it. maybe this is me. he thinks about society’s romance and thinks about friendship, thinks about platonic love, and thinks maybe this is right.
Tags: this could be angst but I don’t think so?, someone let me know about that please, Aromantic, Asexual Character, Asexuality, Aromantic Asexual character, growing up, sexuality crisis, kind of, more like discovery?, sexuality, love, friendship, Slytherin, Sexual Confusion, I don’t know what else to tag, society’s views of love, marriage, but a negative view of marriage, aromantic asexual Blaise Zabini, queerplatonic relationships, character study, I’m so so proud of this work so please give it a try, not really part of the series so can be read alone, don’t copy to another site
she unleashes the magic in her veins - Narcissa has sat alone in Malfoy Manor while her husband is in prison and her son is off on a suicide mission. She sits and she waits and she dares her hands not to shake. Soon, she grows sick of waiting. Narcissa had been a Black once and she still is; her marriage did not take that from her. Perhaps it is time that someone of the Black family shakes the foundations of the world once again.
Tags: BAMF women, BAMF Narcissa Black Malfoy, Slytherins being Slytherins, Mother-son relationship, mother’s love, love, Malfoy Manor, house elves, Number 12 Grimmauld Place, horcruxes
Never Been A Love Story (Quite Like This) - Charlie Weasley’s soulmates with Draco Malfoy. Over the years, things manage to work themselves out and they end up as friends. The real problem stems from the world around them saying they must be in love with one another since they’re soulmates. Charlie struggles with this. Luckily, Draco’s there to help out.
Tags: Alternate Universe - Soulmates, platonic soulmates, platonic male/male relationships, family, grief/mourning, comfort, second war with Voldemort, post-second war with Voldemort, smuggling, a few crimes, friendship, enemies to friends, to even better friends, romantic soulmates, kinda, dragons, I mean it is Charlie Weasley, asexual Charlie Weasley, Aromantic Charlie Weasley, Aromantic Asexual Charlie Weasley, POV Charlie Weasley, I guess, Charlie Weasley-centric, do not post to another site

Tags: Aromantic Charlie Weasley, Asexual Charlie Weasley, aromantic asexual Charlie Weasley, Charlie Weasley-centric, dragons, of course, family, comfort, family feels, bisexual Bill Weasley, Pansexual Ginny Weasley, friendship, it’s in the background, familial love, coming out, self-love
United Within These Walls - Blaise Zabini might be a Slytherin. But he’d been a Hogwarts student first. They all had been. It’s time for houses to matter less and the one thing that brings them together - Hogwarts - to matter more.
Tags: Hogwarts seventh year, warnings for the Carrows, interrogation, torture, (kind of), resistance, students, Dumbledore’s Army, these tags sound bad, but it’s not too dark, Hogwarts inter-house unity
Warning: Warnings for the Carrows and the use of the crucio.
Naruto
Everybody Knows (the deal is rotten) - A story inspired by Orpheus and Eurydice, except there’s no romance and no real gods, except there are brothers and death and the Sharingan.
Tags (a number of tags in this one so just doing the main ones): Alternate Universe - canon divergence, inspired by Orpheus and Eurydice, eye-trauma, Uchiha Madara-centric, canonical character death, canon does not follow from that death though, questionable sanity, ghosts, potential mindfuck
Warning: Izuna’s technically dead? Or he dies and then comes back. Warning for eye trauma. Initial note mentions this in more detail.
follow your heart (it leads you home) - After a twelve-hour shift at the hospital, there are few things Rin wants to do. She will, however, listen to rumours from Obito, eat dinner, and then fall asleep as they both wait to see Kakashi. And Kakashi loves to see his partners when he comes home, especially when he’s been missing them. Meanwhile, Obito conspires so that everyone gets to be happy - himself included.

stay with me tonight (there’s so much wrong going on outside) - Sometimes you’re stressed and exhausted and burnt out. But you know what? Sasuke isn’t alone. He can relax and rely on Sakura and Naruto. Just take a break and breathe.
Tags: Queerplatonic relationships, alternate universe - Modern setting, roommates, movie night, softness, bad days, burnout, students, casual intimacy, love, friendship/love, hurt/comfort, more comfort than hurt, fluff, domestic fluff
Here’s To Us (Here’s To Love) - Team 7 is a little bit more lonely, their lives a little less harsh, and they are a team. They will remain a team, no matter what comes. (A short fic on Team 7’s friendship and love as it could’ve been. How their family began and how it continues on after everything.)
Tags: Team as family, Team 7 as family, team 7-centric, team 7 feels, found family, friendship/love, loneliness, comfort, hope, alternate universe - canon divergence, lonely team 7, love, friendship, I cannot tell you how much team 7 love each other, so so much love, gentle, soft, the interent quiet of the darkness at night
Naruto Series
The Overworked Hikaku Chronicles - The Overworked Hikaku Chronicles covers how Uchiha Hikaku accidentally saves the world, creates peace amongst the Uchiha and Senju Clans, deals with Konoha being founded like the normal person he is, and also stops being so overworked and tired with a (slightly forced) nap. It starts with crack and humour, grows to speak of self-care and ends gently and with love.
Notes: Since this isn’t a single work, there’s a number of tags. In total, there are ten works with a total of around 31k. There’s one work with a warning for near-death experience, and a number of the fics deal with burnout and stress, but also focussing on moving past that too. Tags commonly featured include: crack, crack treated seriously, fluff and humour, Uchiha Izuna lives, Warring States Period (Naruto), family, family feels, familial love.
The Sea Never Dies
Uzushiogakure is more than a ruin. Her people wander and they hide themselves away, refusing to be who they once were. Uzushio sees this and she refuses to let the world stay that way. Uzushiogakure may have fallen, but Uzushio is far from dead.
Meanwhile, Konoha kills off almost all of the Uchiha Clan, leaving two - Sasuke Uchiha and Toru Uchiha. Sasuke’s survival was meant to happen. Toru’s survival was due to luck, (and something more, something much, much bigger than luck).
The world is not safe or nice or good. It hasn’t been such for a while. That’s alright though. Toru can make things happen with his own two hands and his words. He can change his world, even if it isn’t the entire world. Toru doesn’t like the whole world that much anyway.
Notes: Like the previous series, this one has too many tags to tag individually. This series is still ongoing and is near the end, though, updating frequently. In total, there’s about 600k words at the moment (and an extra 70k of extra AUs and whatnot) so it is massive. I would argue it’s all about found family, love, hope, building a life out of the ashes, and learning to live for yourself/living on when nothing is left.
Common tags: Uzushiogakure, LGBTQ character, Alternate universe - canon divergence, friendship, queerplatonic relationship, found family, team as family, reincarnation, ANBU, world building, team building, BAMF women, women being awesome, BAMF team 7, friendship.
Warnings: This series lightly touches on PTSD (but still touches on it) and there are depications of the main characters near-death and actual death too, though these can be skipped. There are scenes of torture too, which aren’t explict but are warned about too. Further questions can be asked and I’ll be willing to answer. Overall, this series definitely isn’t dark however. (Oh, and some bad guys die, so character death too, I guess?)
Additional Notes: It’s a lot of words so I can totally understand not wanting to read it. So there are a few AUs that can be read without reading the main series. One is see hope rise with the tide and the other is Desert Oasis.

You´re not useless
Word Count: 2,115
Pairing: Kakashi x fem!reader
Warnings: swear words maybe
A/N: I had this idea for so Long now, I can´t believe I finally finished it
Summary: You used to be a kunoichi, working with the ANBU alongside Kakashi, because of your stupidness you got attacked though and can´t use your Chakra anymore. This makes you think you´re incredibly useless. Kakashi Comes back into your life, giving you the opportunity to raise Naruto and Sasuke. Needless to say, this isn´t the last time you see each other
Tumblr media
It wasn´t easy being unable to activate chakra, especially in recent times.
The world grew more dangerous by the second and it reminded you of your uselessness.
You weren´t always this way, there was a time when you were in the Anbu and a good member of them, you were strong, finished missions and everything was fine.
But that also made you incredibly stupid and you didn´t even see the attack coming.
It came at the most inconvenient moment, the moment you were about to confess your love to Kakashi, your partner.
He tried his best to protect you, but it was too late, it hit all of your chakra points and the doctor told you you could never use them again.
In the end it was better this way, it was beyond stupid to confess to an Anbu member, on a mission especially.
Now you were taking care of the orphans in the village.
It was a fulfilling job, though you didn´t regard it as one.
It was more of a new life, you were like a mother to them, or you tried to be.
You tried to give them the love and family they never had.
One day Kakashi asked you to take care of his students, Naruto and Sasuke.
It was sudden, you weren´t prepared for him to come back into your life after the accident and you also weren´t prepared for your feelings still being there.
The way your heart jumped whenever you saw him or even thought about him made you want to rip it out.
You two could never be together, he told you so himself.
In the end you agreed to take care of the children.
Sasuke was easy to take care of, he never really spent time with you or Naruto, instead he trained and studied all day. You only saw him whenever you ate together.
It made you sad, after all you tried so hard to give him a warm home.
And Naruto… well, he was always causing trouble in the village, making you and Iruka run after him, apologizing constantly.
Those children really kept you on your toes, and you were grateful. You always thought that after your accident you were useless, you could just die, it would make no difference.
But now you realized that taking care of orphans was very fulfilling, you were so proud of them for making it into the academy and hoped they would do their best.
They were on the same team which you liked, even though they didn´t seem to get along on the outside, you knew better. Boys just needed rivals, and they were too proud to admit that those rivals were close friends.
It made you so happy to see them progress.
Lately they were closer to you, Naruto sought your advice in asking Sakura out and you helped him with his homework.
And even Sasuke wanted you to watch his training.
“Don´t hold your breath, Sasuke, the jutsu won´t last long that way” you instructed him to which he nodded and adjusted.
He was an excellent student, always bringing home high grades and now you could see how hard he really tried to get stronger.
“Sasuke? I feel honored to watch over your training, but may I ask you why?” you asked him in a moment of silence.
“Kakashi-sensei talks a lot about you, about your former ANBU days. You never talk about that, so I didn´t know that you were so strong. I think I can learn and improve a lot from you” he told you.
You frowned, you didn´t realize that Kakashi would talk about you, you didn´t think he had a reason too, there was nothing interesting about you and you weren´t even that great of a fighter, if you were you´d still have your chakra.
“I´m flattered, but maybe you shouldn´t listen that much to Kakashi in that regard. My fighting days are long over and he knows that, there is nothing you can gain from my failure” you sighed, forcing a smile and left Sasuke to his training.
You thought about his words a lot, interpreting them too much, you liked the thought of Kakashi ttalking about you, even if it was just a dream, a mere fantasy.
One day the boys forgot their lunches and you hurried to bring them to them.
You would´ve panted years ago because of the distance and the way you were running all the way, but now it was easy to you, after all you were running after Naruto all the time, trying to fix the things he messed up.
It was something you were secretly proud of, that you regained at least a bit of your strength in form of stamina. That was at least something.
Kakashi was surprised to see you, it´s been a while since you two talked. He didn´t have that much time anymore, or that´s what he told himself.
The reality however looked different.
In reality he just didn´t know how to approach you, what to tell you, everything he imagined in his head just seemed wrong or awkward.
So he just didn´t approach you at all, even though that was just as stupid.
“Can you give these to Naruto and Sasuke later? They forgot their lunches at home, so I brought them” you said before Kakashi could finish his thought about what he deemed appropriate for a greeting.
He was so taken aback by your sudden presence, he needed a moment to adjust, to finally and fully realize that yes, you were really standing in front of him.
“Yeah sure…” he needed some time to reply.
“Thanks” you smiled at him before going back home.
It was weird seeing Kakashi again like that, it left you wanting more, left you with an empty feeling.
A part of you wished that you stayed longer, but another part of you knew it was hopeless. Even if you did, what would you even have said?
Either way it was pointless, you two didn´t have the possibility to meet each other outside of work and with Kakashi being a teacher and jonin, it was even less likely that the two of you would ever meet again.
Of course Sasuke was the first one who found out about your crush on Kakashi and his apparent one on you, Naruto and Sakura were the ones who wanted to get you two together after he told them.
They set up a plan to forget their lunches every day so that you would have to bring it to them and inevitably run into Kakashi again.
This worked quite well since you weren´t aware of what they were trying to do, it was dumb but in the end it worked out in your favor.
Kakashi and you talked a bit more with each time you brought the children their lunches, the more you met the deeper your conversations got.
On one of those particular days you reminisced about your past days in the ANBU.
“We really were a great team, you know?” Kakashi smiled at you and you noticed this familiar feeling of your heart racing again, just like it did all those years ago. And it have only been a few weeks.
“We were… not to brag, but we were the best” you laughed, smiling proudly and sadly at the same time.
Kakashi returned the smile, thinking back on all the successful missions you had.
You always had each other´s backs, well until he fucked up. Until he didn´t pay attention, was lost in thought thinking about how he caught feelings for you, how he couldn´t stop the guy from attacking you.
All those years he wanted to apologize to you but he never knew how.
“It´s nice talking to you again like this, (Y/N). I missed this… so, I was thinking, do you maybe want to go out later? Maybe after I´m finished with the lesson? I need to tell you something in private” he awkwardly scratched his head.
“Yeah sure, you can come by for dinner alter if you want to. Or earlier, however you like, but it´d be nice to have dinner with you” you added, not knowing where this sudden bravery came from.
“It´s a date” Kakashi smiled as each of you went your own way.
When you got home, you started preparing food, helping Naruto and Sasuke with their homework along the way. You hurried more than you needed to, making you more hectic and anxious as you needed to be. It was so embarrassing, you never cared about your looks or whatever before but now that Kakashi was coming over, you raided your closet as if it was the last day on earth. It was horrible, but you told yourself it was worth it. You were really curious what he had to say to you.
When Kakashi arrived you told the children to train outside and they did.
“Hey” you softly greeted him and let him in.
“Thanks for your time, (Y/N). It means a lot” he stood by the door for a while longer, not knowing what else to do, why did he have to be so awkward?
Why was it so hard to apologize? To bring up the past again? The guilt just ate him alive, he owed it to you to do it properly.
You two sat down and ate in silence, none of you knew what to say, it was beyond uncomfortable but neither of you knew how to break the silence.
“I´m sorry...” Kakashi whispered after a while, you weren´t sure he even said anything at first.
He cursed himself for waiting so long.
“What for?” you asked confused, you couldn´t think of anything he did wrong.
Kakashi sighed loudly, frowning, the guilt made his heart squeeze, but he wouldn´t cry right now, he needed to do this properly.
“Your accident, it was my fault. And I´m really sorry for it” he sounded so sincere, but it made you laugh.
“It wasn´t your fault. I was distracted and paid for it, that´s all. But it´s alright now, I´m still alive, you know?” you smiled at him after finishing laughing.
“(Y/N), I´m serious, if I paid more attention I could´ve gotten him. You weren´t the only one who was distracted and not a single day goes by where I don´t think about it. I wanted to apologize to you all those years but I never knew how to do it… I´m just really sorry” he looked into your eyes deeply, still frowning.
“It´s okay, Kakashi. Like I said, I was stupid and distracted so it´s alright” you stood up, walking to the window and looking at the stars, it was a cold night and you didn´t know where it would go.
A part of you wished you would´ve confessed to him that day. But you didn´t and the feeling was still there, you wondered what the meaning of Kakashi coming back into your life was.
“(Y/N), can I tell you something?” he joined you at the window.
“Yeah sure, go ahead” you smiled at him.
“Like I said, I was distracted too, but I don´t think I ever told you why…” Kakashi started, was he really going to confess to you right now? Was this really the right time? This was years ago, why did he think it was a good idea? You didn´t like him back then, so why should you now? “You know what? Just Forget it, this was a stupid idea….just forget I said anything” he changed his mind, defeated, the bravery just gone.
“Kakashi… I didn´t ever tell you why I was distracted either….and it´s stupid, but I didn´t tell you back then and I think I should tell you now. Because nothing has changed for me, which is, well, pathetic honestly, but I can´t help myself.” you fiddled with your fingers and sighed before continuing.
“I was distracted because of you… because I fell for you when we worked together and I wanted to tell you that day. And when it happened and we were so close, I couldn´t focus on my surroundings, I couldn´t focus on anything but you. I guess you should know that and… that my feelings haven´t changed since then” you were scared to meet his eyes, scared of his reaction.
And when it came, it took your breath away.
Kakashi pulled you in for a hug, holding you tight and warm.
You were surprised, so you just stood there for a moment before hugging him back, wrapping your arms around his waist.
“I was distracted by you too… and I still am” he whispered into your neck.

Why do you like the idea of omega Shisui? Why not alpha or beta?
Alright, I've had this ask in my askbox for a while because why exactly do I like Omega Shisui? I didn't have an answer at first and I thought a lot about it.
The short answer is, I love the idea of pregnant Shisui.
The long answer is, there are a lot of struggles an omega has to go through, especially in a shinobi world and especially if that omega doesn't have a mate. What if they get in heat during a mission? Not to count, enemy alphas might try to rape them just for the sick fun of it.
I like thinking of Shisui hiding that he's an omega, acting like he's a simple beta and using scent blockers or whatever it could be used, in some stories there are even heat suppressant so take your pick.
I like thinking that Itachi is the only one to know at first, and then Kakashi and Tenzo as well when Shisui learns to trust Team Ro.
Even then, even hiding the fact that he's an omega, I like to think that Shisui would enjoy a pregnancy.
He would sit on the engawa if it's not too cold outside, a cup of warm tea in one hand while the other hand rests on his stomach. He would be so peaceful and relaxed, just enjoying the day. Mikoto would love to invite him over more often and they would talk and laugh and smile together, and Mikoto would give him tips on his pregnancy and stuff like that.
He would wear big sweaters because they are comfortable, but he wouldn't try to hide his growing stomach. He would be pretty proud of it, actually, walking around the village without a problem in the world.
He would be hesitant at first, because Shisui has killed countless before and his hands are far from clean, what if he will not be a good parent? What if he will screw up royally? But after talking about it with his partner (take your pick on that, it could be Kakashi just as much as Itachi, Tenzo, Genma, Anko, I don't know, ship him with who you want to) he would be reassured, and he would accept it.
He would take care of his flowers, and he would read, he would write, he would walk. He would do anything he feels like doing, and he would do it with a smile. He would spend his time with his friends, he would ask Mikoto to teach him how to cook, he would play with Sasuke when Itachi is on missions, giving him training tips and such.
He would probably ask Itachi to summon a little crow to keep him company, because chakra usage would be forbidden during the pregnancy to avoid any possible problem, and he would chat with his crow for hours on end, and the little crow would sit on his head or would fly around picking things to help Shisui build a nest, because that's how it works for crows and Shisui loves it.
He would sit with his partner when they're not on missions, just enjoying their presence. They would cuddle and share lazy kisses and little caresses, Shisui would probably be super cuddly during his pregnancy and his partner would probably be super protective because, you know, alpha instincts.
Sometimes he would sit on a bench at the park to watch the children play, thinking of when his own child will be there, running around and making friends and having fun, having the childhood Shisui and his friends didn't have.
And I know a pregnancy can be super chill, not because I've had one (thank God, I would say) but because I've seen my best friend during her pregnancy, I've passed a lot of my time with her and yes, she was a bit stressed sometimes, it's normal I think, I have no clue what the fuck happens to your body and hormones during a pregnancy but I can understand that it can stress you out, but she was also very relaxed most of the time, and I imagine Shisui like that.
It's just... So peaceful. Thinking about it gives me endorphins.

Flashbackkkk
The air was damp and cold as Tenzō made his way into the cave that led to a new hideout deep within the earth. It had been six months since the 4th Great Shinobi War had ended, and as things were finally beginning to settle down, the Mokuton user found his new purpose with a self assignment to watching over the war criminal Orochimaru. Although he didn’t agree with Tsunade’s decision to keep the bastard alive, he wouldn’t just sit idly by and do nothing with a mad scientist out on the loose. It was a travesty that they were even allowed freedom with everything that they’ve done. What was she even thinking? This wasn’t justice at all.
Regretfully, the brunette knows he isn’t strong enough to take on Orochimaru and kill them. The only people even remotely strong enough to face the snake and be able to finish him off were probably either Naruto or Sasuke, and Tenzō wasn’t about to ask either of them to dirty their hands. The young adults deserved to finally rest and relinquish themselves of the responsibility of fighting for a while to enjoy the peace they obtained for the world.
As the Mokuton user reluctantly steps further into the cave he feels something ominous and familiar twisting his stomach into knots and making him tense up. Anxiety starts to play on his nerves causing his hands to tremor slightly and he stops in his tracks. Flashes of a memory he hoped would never return flood his mind as soon as he hears the sound of a water drop fall from a stalactite onto the earthen ground with an echo.
Tenzō is surrounded by darkness once more, then there is another drop of water that echoes out, resounding against stone walls. It’s loud. With a blindfold over his eyes for what seemed like weeks, his other senses had heightened. His ears were now his eyes, hearing what he could only imagine that was water dripping inside of a cave. He was bound as well as gagged, and with no way to communicate or sense much of anything else due to the chakra suppression seal placed on his body, he began to panic.
Footsteps can be heard, and a familiar slithering sound. It’s Kabuto and the one called Zetsu. It makes Tenzō’s skin crawl to hear the sounds again, but he can’t run and he can’t hide.
Another flash of memory and now he’s hanging upside down, the blindfold being removed and he squints from the light accosting his eyes. Once his brown hues finally adjust, he’s able to make out the form standing before him, it’s the Sage of Dragon Snakes, peering at him through thick bottle glasses. Tenzō could never forget that piercing gaze from dark snakelike eyes.
A kunai quickly slashes over his chest tearing through the fabric of his binder and skin, rivulets of blood now trickle down towards his face running up his cheeks and into his eyes. His body stings, not only from the wound inflicted, but from the blood invading his eyes and obscuring his vision. Then there is a question, but he remains silent. Another slash, and another question. So many questions and so much more pain, but still, Tenzō remains silent. His face is now covered in blood and when he can’t take anymore of the physical assault of pain, he allows his eyes to slide shut.
With another flash of memory, the brunette opens his eyes and is screaming out in pain. His wrist was just broken in two different places by Zetsu after failing to answer Kabuto’s question during another torture session. The scream of pain must have been one of the first sounds to come from his mouth in months since refusing to talk and give any information. The cuts, burns, and floggings were tolerable enough to stop himself from screaming, but this was a whole new level of pain. The sessions escalated each time, amping up the pain and testing Tenzō’s tolerance.
Finally, they reached a point where they were getting somewhere, and when the Mokuton user eventually catches his breath, there is another question. Peering at Kabuto through a pained expression and gritting teeth, Tenzo definitely spits in his face. His rebellious act gains him a break of his ankle this time and a hand covering his mouth and nose to muffle the scream and stifle his breathing. The brunette starts to gasp for air in a panic, he attempts to move his head from side to side in order to shake away the suffocating hand, but he fails and passes back out from pain and a lack of oxygen.
“Tenzō!” The shout of his name is barely audible within the shrouding darkness. “Tenzō!” The name comes again but this time it is a little louder than the last. “Kami damn it, Tenzō! Breath!”
The sentence sounds like it’s being yelled against his ear and the brunette gasps for air before coughing, sitting up fast and leaning forward between his knees. Once the involuntary action subsides and air draws into his lungs, Tenzō slowly opens his eyes. He can make out the vibrant green grass beneath him being illuminated by late afternoon sunlight.
“You scared the shit out of me, Kitty Cat…”
The familiar voice causes Tenzō to sit up straight and whip his head around to see Kakashi standing beside him. “... Senpai?”
“Tenzō, you and I both know that this mission isn’t good for you… Just look at what happened, and you didn’t even make it 20 feet past the cave’s entrance. It’s torture... Please, just let me take you home. Retire from being a shinobi for a while and rest. You’ve earned it more than any of us. You’ve done and been through enough, don’t you think?” The silver haired soon to be Hokage says as he reaches a hand out to help the brunette.
Dark hues stare at the helping hand for a moment, his face void of any expression as he is still trying to gather himself after his debilitating flashback.
“If you won’t retire, at least let me reassign you once I become Hokage… I’ll make you my ANBU bodyguard after the inauguration ceremony is over. Just… Let me figure out how to deal with Orochimaru, or we can figure it out together. They’re not just your problem to deal with, after all- It’s all of Konoha’s.”
The words strike a chord within Tenzō as he remains silent, but he reaches his hand out and takes Kakashi’s offer. Pulling himself up to his feet with the aid provided to him, the brunette looks down to the ground for a moment mulling over the suggestion.
“Alright…” The brunette says in a low tone with a hint of defeat. “I apologize Senp-”
“Don’t you dare apologize, Tenzō. You did nothing wrong, and no one can blame you for anything. Now stop self loathing and let’s get you back home where you belong.” Kakashi interrupts with a serious expression on his features flexing through his mask.
Tenzō looks up at his longtime partner with watery eyes, though he’s not sure if his building tears are from the chastization or if it's because he finally realizes where he belongs. “Alright Senpai… Let’s go home.”

Sakura was quite typical for a twelve-year-old freshly minted kunoichi raised in peace time. She was loud, big-headed and obsessed with the idea of romance. She had celebrity crushes on actors and models, all civilian, and she constantly fantasized about meeting the one boy that would sweep her off her feet. In her mind’s eye this dream boy was actually faceless, but it only fueled her determination to find the right one in real life. Someone that she could love and would love her in return, someone that would make her feel those butterflies in her stomach that romance books mentioned so often, someone that would kiss her breathless…
What Sakura dreamed about was having her first kiss already. She kept hearing other girls at the Academy giggling together over cute boys, talking about their kissing experiences, sharing tips. It made her so envious! She felt like she was missing out on something truly amazing.
When she became a genin, Sakura swore to herself she would finally get her first kiss. Of course, she didn’t mention it as her goal when Kakashi-sensei asked the team for their introductions. After Naruto had declared his intent to become Hokage, and Sasuke, a fellow kunoichi and the Rookie of the Year, had talked so seriously about killing someone, Sakura thought that admitting to such a small goal would have made her sound shallow. She settled on revealing a more general personal goal of finding true love. But kissing was obviously going to be a big part of fulfilling that goal.
Unfortunately, genin missions so far didn’t involve becoming a bodyguard of a handsome prince that would fall in love with her and go down on his knees to propose. Instead, Sakura and her team worked on grueling, unglamorous and non-exciting D-ranks like catching cats, cleaning trash from the river and painting fences. She always felt dirty, sweaty and smelly after them, not at all like the amazing, beautiful kunoichi she had imagined herself to become as a genin.
Sakura shot a look at Sasuke as they waited together on the red bridge for Naruto and Kakashi-sensei to finally show up. The other girl was nonchalantly leaning against the railing in that effortlessly cool way of hers. Sakura didn’t understand it, but even after a full day of the worst jobs under the sun Sasuke still looked really pretty. Many times Sakura had admired her face flushed from exertion, those dark and mysterious eyes focusing hard on her task, her graceful movements. It hurt to admit it, but Sasuke was so much closer to that ideal of a kunoichi and she wasn’t even trying.
Also, she’d even had her first kiss.
Sakura made a face. Alright, she didn’t actually envy Sasuke of that incident. Just the memory of it made Sakura shudder in disgust. Out of all the boys in their class (rather unappealing options, in her opinion) to accidentally smash lips with the least cute one, Naruto? And then get stuck with him on the same team? Sasuke was extremely unlucky.
Though to be fair, the girl seemed to have put that incident behind her and Naruto wasn’t so bad in the end, just over-excitable. Sakura tried to keep him in line and Sasuke helped her deal with any messes he created on the way.
Still, Sasuke losing her first kiss so unfortunately made Sakura fear about her own. Troubling thoughts and worries swirled around in her head. Once Sakura started imagining all of the terrible possibilities, she couldn’t stop it.
She must have been boring holes in her head, because Sasuke finally looked back at her. “What?” she asked, no-nonsense and arms crossed like usual.
“Nothing…” Sakura sighed and glanced at the road hopefully. Still no sign of their very late teammates. They had time to kill. “I was just thinking about… kissing.”
To her surprise, Sasuke didn’t scoff and turn away. “What about it?” she asked instead with a curious expression.
“Your first kiss was pretty bad.”
Sasuke grimaced. “Don’t remind me,” she grumbled.
“I guess I worry about what mine will be like. I don’t want it to be with Naruto, you know?”
“Duh,” Sasuke agreed with an eyeroll. “It was revolting. I almost lost my lunch.”
“Yeah, but what if I kissed someone and that person hated it? I don’t think I could survive that,” Sakura confessed her fears.
Sasuke frowned at her. “It’s unlikely you’d be that bad. But you could practice,” she suggested.
“Practice kissing?” Sakura repeated, confused but intrigued by the idea.
Sasuke nodded. “Yeah. If you want to get good at something, you should practice. It’s like throwing shuriken or mastering a jutsu,” she reasoned. “Practice makes perfect.”
This idea had merit. Coming from Sasuke it sounded almost practical and Sakura was tempted to give it a try. But to practice kissing, she needed a partner… but if she asked some boy, she’d just lose her first kiss to him, instead of only preparing for it. Sakura tapped her bottom lip, thinking hard on how to resolve this issue. Her eyes darted to Sasuke.
“Would you help me?” Sakura asked.
Sasuke’s eyes went wide. “Me?”
“We’re both girls, so it won’t count as my first kiss if we just practice together,” Sakura said and came closer to the other girl. “Please, Sasuke?” she asked with a pleading look.
Sasuke’s gaze skimmed over Sakura’s face and she licked her lips. They looked pink and glossy, was she using a new lip balm? “But, why me?” Sasuke asked uncertainly.
“Because you’re my teammate and I like you. And teammates help each other practice, right?” Sakura replied, also blushing. “Please, say yes,” she urged with those big, emerald eyes staring into Sasuke’s dark ones. “I really, really need your help.”
Sasuke took in a shaky breath and uncrossed her arms. “Alright,” she replied quietly and filled with determination. “How do we start?”
Sakura paused. “I guess… we just get close and touch our lips together?”
Sasuke nodded tightly. “Very well.”
The girls looked at each other and shuffled closer, but when they both tried to lean in, they almost knocked their heads together. “Stay still,” Sasuke ordered and Sakura froze. Her pretty teammate put her hands on her shoulders and leaned in. Her lips were getting closer and then lightly touched Sakura’s before pulling away.
Sakura blinked. She barely felt anything, but a very faint wisp of a tingle on her lips. That was utterly underwhelming.
“Um… too light?” she whispered. “Here, let me try,” she said and grabbed Sasuke’s shoulders, then angled her face and brushed her puckered mouth against Sasuke’s. This time she actually felt something. Sakura pressed their lips more firmly, but it still wasn’t what she was looking for.
Experimentally, Sakura rubbed her mouth over Sasuke’s. She liked how it glided smoothly thanks to that lip balm. It smelled nice and fresh, like a cut watermelon. The tip of her tongue darted out of her mouth to taste it.
Sasuke gasped at the unexpected touch and Sakura hastily pulled back. “I’m sorry! Did it feel bad?” she asked anxiously. She didn’t want to scare her kissing partner away.
After touching her mouth, Sasuke breathed in. “No… I was just surprised,” she replied, her intent dark eyes giving Sakura’s lips an assessing look, as if she was seizing up a battlefield before an attack. That look put a squirming sensation in the pit of Sakura’s stomach. “Let’s try it again,” Sasuke said and leaned in to her. With nervousness that came out of nowhere, Sakura braced herself for the kiss, but just a breath shy of touching, Sasuke paused. “Relax your lips this time, it felt better when they weren’t so stiff,” she instructed in a hushed tone.
“O-Okay…” Sakura whispered back and stopped holding her mouth so tight.
She more felt then saw Sasuke’s light smirk, then their lips touched again. It was Sakura’s turn to gasp. The kiss felt so much better this way. At first it was light, exploratory, then firmer as Sasuke gained confidence. Instead of being like two tense blocks pressed together, their lips became so much softer and pliable as they glided and brushed across each other. Sakura closed her eyes, concentrating on the very pleasant sensation and attempting to mimic what Sasuke was doing.
“That’s better,” Sasuke murmured, drawing away from her. “It isn’t so hard, is it?”
“Yeah… Thanks,” Sakura replied, feeling shaky on her feet. She tucked a long strand of hair that was hanging in her face behind her ear and licked her lips, then looked at Sasuke hopefully from under the lowered eyelashes. “Can we… practice a little more? I was beginning to get the hang of it.” She knew she was presumptuous and unreasonable after all the help Sasuke had given her already, but the small tingling on her lips made her feel like she was on a verge of some significant breakthrough. She needed to pursue this.
Sasuke gave her a penetrating look, then shrugged. “If you want.”
Sakura nodded eagerly and moved in to kiss her again. This time she was in the lead, carefully stroking Sasuke’s soft lips with her own. Something hot and wet poked her lips and she parted them in surprise…
“Sakura-chan! Sasuke! Sorry I’m late, my alarm clock didn’t ring!” Naruto’s obnoxious voice reached them from a distance.
In a blink of an eye, the mouth against hers disappeared and Sasuke was back in her old position against the railing. Sakura blinked a few times, feeling like she’d just been abruptly waken from a very nice dream without finding out how it was going to end. A surge of disappointment filled her and she glared at the orange headache bounding to them through the bridge.
“Naruto! Don’t yell so loud in the morning!” she snapped at the knucklehead.
“But, Sakura-chan! You’re yelling too!” Naruto pointed out in protest.
She looked at him with murder in her eyes and he backed away. “Ehehe… S-Sorry, Sakura-chan…” Naruto then wiped a finger under his nose and cast a curious look between Sakura and Sasuke. “So, what were you two doing before I got here? You were standing pretty close,” he commented.
Sakura’s face flamed, steam almost coming out of her ears. He was going to figure it out! This couldn’t be happening! She clenched her fists, about ready to knock out any remaining reason from Naruto’s dumb head before he put two and two together.
“What we’re talking about is none of your concern, dobe,” Sasuke said.
“Whaaat? I’m your teammate, I want to know too!”
“You shouldn’t be late then,” Sasuke replied with a smirk.
“Aaagh! Stop being so smug! I bet you were bragging about some new jutsu to Sakura-chan! Come on, tell me, tell me!” the boy pestered in his annoying way.
Sakura sighed, relieved that Sasuke contained the situation. Naruto was like a dog with a bone. Good thing that he was so single-minded. She looked on as her teammates bickered. Sasuke was surprisingly good at handling Naruto, even if she often fell for his stupid taunts too.
Shortly after, Kakashi finally showed up and the team headed off to another D-rank mission of weeding a garden. Sakura was becoming convinced that the ‘D’ in it must stand for ‘dull’, but she wasn’t going to complain too much. She didn’t actually think they were ready yet for anything truly dangerous.
The team worked together as usual, but Sakura couldn’t help shooting looks Sasuke’s way. The girl was kneeling in the dirt and diligently digging out the weeds. When she caught Sakura’s gaze, she raised an eyebrow. Sakura smiled and shook her head, before bending over her patch of the garden.
Sasuke was acting normal, like nothing had happened between them, so she should put it out of her mind too. Only the lingering taste of watermelon on Sakura’s lips assured her that the kissing practice had really happened, that it wasn’t just a very vivid daydream conjured by her overactive imagination. But even that taste faded quickly.
However, saying was easier than doing. That night, when she went to sleep, Sakura touched her lips, going over their one time practice in her memory. She didn’t understand why she was affected by it so much, it was just Sasuke! She was certain if she’d done the same thing with Ino or any other girl from their class, she wouldn’t have made anything out of it. Why was Sasuke any different then? Was it because she was the Rookie of the Year? Some other reason? Sakura couldn’t figure it out.
She also wondered if Sasuke thought as much about the kissing practice as she did. Realistically, she doubted that, but there were moments when she almost caught Sasuke sneaking looks at her. Almost. She had no way to be sure. It could have been just her imagination.
Sakura often thought about asking Sasuke to help her practice kissing some more. But they didn’t get much time alone in the mornings anymore and whenever they had some, she always chickened out. Sakura told herself that she already knew how to kiss, so asking her teammate for more would be too… weird. On the other hand, Sasuke had said that practice makes perfect and they’d practiced only once, so maybe asking to do it again would be okay? But something held her back, froze the words before she spoke them.
Miraculously, one day Naruto’s embarrassing whining in front of the Hokage-sama landed them a C-rank mission. At first, Sakura was overjoyed when she heard they were bodyguarding someone, but her enthusiasm dropped when they were introduced to Tazuna. The old, inebriated bridgebuilder they were supposed to escort was the exact opposite of a handsome prince from her fantasies.
What’s worse, Tazuna lied about the mission and they found out the hard way that there were powerful ninja assassins after his head. However, the team decided to push forward anyway. Naruto and Sasuke were confident in their course of action, but Sakura had her doubts, which were proven correct when Zabuza attacked them. Even with Kakashi-sensei there, they all barely survived intact.
And that’s how Sakura and Sasuke ended up in the forest outside Tazuna’s house, training for the next battle with Zabuza and his masked accomplice. After showing them the tree-walking exercise the previous day, Kakashi mostly stayed in the house to recuperate and Naruto was on guard duty at the bridge.
For the first time in ages Sakura and Sasuke were left alone for a longer stretch of time.
Sakura, who had managed the tree-walking on her first try, was tasked with coaching her teammates as she perfected the technique for herself. One thing was knowing how to use it, another was how to use it well. She needed to train her endurance too, or so Kakashi-sensei had said.
Sakura climbed the tree ten times then took a break as she felt the fatigue. She sat under it and watched Sasuke ineffectively run up the trunk of her tree before she inevitably messed up her chakra flow and jumped off, making a scratch with a kunai on the bark to mark her progress. She was getting better, but it was rather slow. In two days, she only made it to four meters off the ground.
Sasuke’s body flipped through the air gracefully and the girl landed in a crouch. She was breathing hard from exertion, her cheeks flushed, and she wiped her forehead with her white forearm protector. Sakura went up to her.
“Here, have a drink,” she said and handed her teammate a water bottle. Sasuke took it and gulped half of it at once. Even that she managed to do with so much fluidity. Sakura would have just looked piggish in her place.
“Thanks,” Sasuke said quietly and held out the bottle in return. Her mouth was pink and glistening with wetness and Sakura’s breath caught in her throat. Sasuke rubbed her wet mouth with the back of her hand.
With a start, Sakura realized she was staring. She hurriedly took back the bottle. “No problem,” she muttered, lowering her gaze to the grass briefly. “Say, Sasuke, how do you do that?” she blurted out suddenly.
“Do what?” Sasuke asked.
“You always move so gracefully, like you’re in full control of every movement you make. And you’re so good at fighting,” Sakura explained. Sasuke was amazing in taijutsu, that’s what made her the top of the class. In the Academy other girls were jealous of her looks and skill, but she kept to herself, treating them with an air of disdain which didn’t gain her any popularity. Sakura hadn’t been friends with Sasuke then, as she’d been mostly hanging out with Ino until their falling out, but she admired her skill in anything physical. She even picked up on kissing so quickly… Was it just a natural talent?
Sasuke paused at the surprise compliment, then shifted her body to the side, crossing her arms in thought. “Hn. I just listen to my body. And I practice a lot,” she said simply in that cool way of hers.
How funny, even the tips of her ears were red, Sakura noticed. She must have really tired herself out.
“Listen to your body? How does that work? Can you teach me that?” Sakura’s questions flooded out of her.
Sasuke scratched her head. “It’s like meditation. It’s hard to explain. You have to train your body to know your limitations and then break them,” she said. “And you constantly move the goalpost.”
Sakura nodded as she absorbed the information. She was having a rough idea what Sasuke was talking about. “I think I get it. Thanks,” she said slowly. “Do you want a tip on tree-walking?” she offered in return.
“Well… yes,” Sasuke admitted.
Sakura smiled. “Don’t get distracted or stressed out, that’s what makes you mess up your chakra flow. Just clear your mind and concentrate on the tree and your chakra. Like this,” Sakura said and demonstrated by walking up the tree. She then stuck the soles of her feet to the underside of a branch, making herself hang upside down, her face right in front of Sasuke’s. “Cool, isn’t it?” she asked, grinning like a lunatic. She was showing off, but it felt so good to have a special talent!
Then Sasuke went on her tiptoes and kissed her.
Sakura lost the focus on her chakra out of the sheer surprise. She fell off head first with a shriek, but Sasuke was fast enough to catch her by the shoulders and pull them up. Sakura folded in the air, so that her feet hit the ground first as she landed awkwardly, her body almost horizontal with her back held up by Sasuke.
Sakura panted harshly, trembling all over from the sudden rush of adrenaline. She looked up at her savior. “Thanks,” she wheezed.
Sasuke helped her stand up straight again. Sakura’s legs were a little spongy after that scare, but she wasn’t going to fall over again. Unless Sasuke did something unexpected to her again, of course…
“Why did you do it?” Sakura asked.
“Obviously I couldn’t let my teammate crack her skull like that,” Sasuke replied.
Sakura gave her a disbelieving look. Her avoidance of the question was transparent!
“Why did you kiss me?” she asked again.
Sasuke put her hands in the pockets of her white shorts and looked at a tree, as if there was something interesting there.
“To distract you. You shouldn’t get too conceited with your success, you’re still not a master,” she said with a shrug.
“Oh.” Sakura muttered, looking away. That made sense for Sasuke to kiss her… There was a logical reason. Then why was she so disappointed?
Sakura observed Sasuke out of the corner of her eye. She really had a beautiful profile. Those high cheek bones were to die for, her nose was perfectly sculpted and those lips… Sakura touched her own mouth. Why were her lips still tingling from that kiss? What was that flipping sensation in her gut? She hugged herself, feeling so deeply confused.
“We should probably get back to training,” Sasuke said.
“Right… I won’t interrupt you anymore,” Sakura replied and morosely returned to her tree.
She couldn’t stop thinking about her issue when she was practicing tree-walking, but even with that distraction her chakra control remained flawless.
Only a few days later, after the battle on the bridge, she finally figured it out. She saw Sasuke, laying lifelessly on the had ground, eyes closed and body riddled with senbon needles. Sakura ran to her with tears brimming in her green eyes. She slumped over her teammate, crying sorrowfully. How could Sasuke be gone? She was so smart, strong and incredible… and with a painful tug in her chest Sakura realized that she loved her. She loved Sasuke, but it was already too late…
“Sakura… your arm is heavy…” a weak voice spoke to her.
Shocked, Sakura looked at Sasuke, who was very much awake, then engulfed her in a crushing hug. “Sasuke!!! Sasuke! Sasuke!” She was so overcome with emotion that she couldn’t say anything else but Sasuke’s name.
The relief was so overpowering that she was crying again. She was ecstatic! Sasuke was still alive!
The realization of the nature of her true feelings for her teammate should have turned her life upside down, but strangely, Sakura felt no longer confused. Everything slid into place for her. It all finally made sense, her persistent thoughts about Sasuke, her strong reactions to the girl, how she wanted to kiss her again…
Sasuke wasn’t a handsome prince that Sakura had pictured in her dreams, rather she was a beautiful princess, but that didn’t matter anymore. Sakura smiled through the happy tears and hugged Sasuke tighter. It still scared her how she almost lost her. Sakura could hear Sasuke’s slow heartbeat picking up speed and it calmed her down.
Sasuke was going to be okay. They were both going to be okay.

Evil Author Day WIP # 1
Someone asked me to do a female version of “Why Sasuke Uchiha Will Never Drink Again” and so I actually started working on that. And then got caught up thinking of all the ridiculous truths and dares that could be done and didn’t finish.
This isn’t even half of what I had planned to write, but it’s all the parts I cackled at WHILE writing, so do enjoy! (And spot the Suits reference :D :D :D

“And, it’s official!” Sakura declares, pouring the last bit of sake into her cup before raising it in front of her. “The Fourth Annual Sexy Wives of Konoha Summit is now in session. Kanpai!”
The rest of the women in the back booth of the izakaya raise their own glasses and chorus, “Kanpai!” before tipping back the alcohol.
“Can I just say I think our summit is a lot more fun than the Kage summit?” Tenten asks.
“Definitely,” Karui agrees. “More alcohol, which I’m in favour of. And we probably have more interesting stuff to talk about.”
“Does anyone actually know what they’re talking about?” Ino asks.
“Something about tariffs,” Hinata says. “Or…sheep, I think. Or maybe both.”
“Or aliens,” Sakura suggests.
“Or aliens.”
“You know what they should be talking about?” Ino asks. “Better footwear for shinobi. I mean seriously, the athletic sandals we used to wear as genin? Do you know how much blood and muck I used to get between my toes? It’s a nationwide crisis, is what it is.”
“Yeah, screw aliens,” Manako agrees.
“Or preferably don’t
The other women murmur their agreements, clink their cups, and then drink.

“Okay, okay, I got one, I got one—imagine you get Sasuke to agree to have a threesome with you and another guy—”
“Tch! Sure, in a parallel universe,” Sakura snorts, and then pauses, blinking. “On second thought, having met the Sasuke from a parallel universe, I think he might actually be into that sort of thing.”
“Wow,” Temari says with a blink. “I don’t know whether that’s hot or disturbing.”
“Hot,” Tenten decides.
“Disturbing,” Karui says at the same time.
“Both?” Hinata suggests tentatively.
“Both,” Manako says with a definitive note in her voice.
“All of you shut up, I haven’t finished my question!” Ino snaps, and the other women glance back at her. She renews her grin at Sakura. “So—say you get Sasuke to agree to a threesome with another guy, but it has to be a guy from your genin squad—”
“Ino!”
“—who would it be?”
“That’s not fair!” Sakura protests. “Both of them are married! To people sitting in this room!”
“Well, fine, if you’re going to whine about it—for the purposes of this truth we can include members of your chūnin squad, too.”
“That’s no different!”
“If you don’t tell the truth, you have to do the dare,” Ino sing-songs.
Cheeks burning and expression mutinous, she spends a few seconds considering the lesser of two evils, and then sighs. “Fine. Kakashi.”
There’s a burst of uproarious laughter and squealing.
“No way!” Ino protests. “He’s so old!”
“He’s not old, he’s experienced,” Manako corrects with would-be-haughtiness. “And a girl could do worse.”
“It has nothing to do with that!” Sakura cries and goes, if possible, even more red. “It’s the choice that makes the most sense! If it were Naruto, he and Sasuke would forget all about me and start some ridiculous competition—probably measuring their dicks or something—”
Everyone laughs, and even red-faced and perpetually embarrassed Hinata cocks her head to one side as if to say, ‘fair point’.
“—and that would end in a fist-fight. Then there’s Sai, who would have a comment for everything, and Sasuke would take it as criticism, and that would end in a fistfight,” she goes on, ticking options off her fingers while Temari snorts and takes another sip of sake.
“—and Yamato-taichou would be so unbelievable uncomfortable he would pass out—”
“Also, didn’t Sasuke stab him once?” Temari wants to know.
“—yeah, exactly! I doubt he’d want to get it on with the guy who stabbed him.”
“I don’t know if that would make a difference. Sasuke’s stabbed Naruto half a dozen times, and Naruto would probably still be down to fu—”
“Manako, if you finish that sentence, I will slip cocoa into your food and watch you asphyxiate to death in front of me,” Sakura vows, glancing over Hinata with the urge to press her hands over the other woman’s ears.
“Doesn’t setting off a severe enough allergic reaction that is causes anaphylactic shock violate the Medic-Nin’s Oath?” Manako challenges, and then makes a face. “Huh. Say that ten times fast.”
“There are loopholes,” Sakura replies primly.
“Sure there are…”
“Why are we focusing on Sakura becoming a murderer, and not on the fact that she wants to bone her former jōnin instructor?” Karui wants to know.
“I never said I wanted to bone him! It was Truth or Dare question!”
“Hmph. I personally would have gone with the Dare…”
“I don’t know,” Ino muses slowly. “I guess it could be interesting. I mean, he does read those books all the time.” She shoots Manako a questioning look. “Or does that not carry over?”
The older woman grins wolfishly. “Oh, it does. It really, really does.”
“La-la-la, I can’t hear you,” Sakura sings. Forget putting her hands over Hinata’s ears, she’s clapped them so hard to her head that she feels a bit of suction between palm and ear.

[...]
“Okay, let me ask you the most important emotional question I can think of,” Manako says, adopting a serious expression.
The former Sunanin raises an eyebrow, but her face remains as stolid as ever. “Fine.”
But Manako doesn’t speak. Instead, she holds the tips of her index fingers together and then slowly starts to pull them apart.
For a moment no one knows what she is doing, but as the distance grows between the fingers—three inches, four inches—comprehension dawns on everyone.
“Oh my god!” Sakura sputters, before pressing her hand against her mouth to muffle her laughter.
Temari doesn’t answer or change her expression as Manako continues to move her fingers apart—five inches, six inches—and Hinata squeaks, cheeks filled with so much blood she appears about to faint. Seven inches, eight—
“Okay, now I’m actually getting worried for you,” the older woman says.
“You have no idea,” Temari replies, leaning back with her arms crossed and a satisfied smirk on her face.
“I can’t hear this!” Ino wails. “He’s like…ugh, he’s like my brother and you just…that image! I will never get that image out of my head.”
“Shit,” Karui says. “How are you still walking upright, woman?”
Even Tenten looks impressed.
“Okay, we have to get this out of the way right now, so no one else decides to draw it out over a bunch of Truths,” Ino says. “Over and done with. On a scale of one to ten—”
“On a scale of one to Shikamaru,” Manako sniggers.
Ino shoots her a dirty look. “On a scale of one to ten—”
Sakura interrupts. “The average length is about five inches. It’s beyond the norm to have a penis larger than—”
Hinata yelps in protest, and Karui gives her an unimpressed look. “You’ve had two children and copious amounts of sex, and the word ‘penis’ bothers you?”
“It’s…it’s not a very nice word,” the Hokage’s wife mutters, embarrassed.
“It’s not a very nice-looking body part, but it gets the job done.”
“Especially if you’re Temari, apparently,” Tenten chuckles.
“She’s got a point, though. Sometimes I wish I was only into women, so I didn’t have to look at a penis,” Manako says. “It’s one thing to know it’s there—and hey, I benefit greatly from having a partner that has one—but given the choice…” She seesaws her right hand up and down. “Honestly, I could do without.”
“You’d still be with Kakashi even if he didn’t have a dick?” Karui asks, surprised.
“Of course! You don’t know what that mouth is capable of—”
“Does he even have a mouth?” Sakura wonders.
“—and even if that wasn’t the case? Dildos exist for a reason. Whether you have a dick or not,” Manako decides. The raises an eyebrow at Karui. “Are you saying if Chōji was in an accident tomorrow and lost his balls, you’d stop being with him?”
“What? No! And besides, what accident would that be? He barely even goes out on missions anymore.”
“Actually, there are several ways a man can lose—” Sakura begins.
“I wasn’t actually asking,” Karui rolls her eyes.
“I think we’re all getting wildly off-topic here,” Ino interjects. “Now! On a scale of one to—”
“—Shikamaru,” Manako and Temari say at the same time, one a little more wryly than the other.
“—where do our guys fall?”
“I think that’s an inaccurate rating system,” Sakura protests. “Size can’t be the only factor.”
“Yeah, what about girth?” Manako wants to know. “It’s all well and good if I guy’s eight inches long, but if his dick’s as thin as a pencil, it’s pretty much useless.”
“And what about stamina? It’s not like it moves on its own,” Karui adds.
“Oh! And proper aim! Or, you know, additional use of fingers. Nothing worse than sex with someone who thinks penetration is the only way to get a woman off,” Tenten adds,
“Gods, this is turning into some kind of quadratic equation,” Ino complains.
“It’s not that hard,” Sakura protests. There are several laughs at that, and she rolls her eyes. “Pun not intended. But anyway, let’s say we have four categories—length, girth, stamina and miscellaneous—”
“What about…” Hinata begins, her voice barely above a whisper, and then she adds, “What about the feelings you have for your partner? That…I’m sure that makes a difference.”
The other women consider, and the nod in agreement.
“Alright, so we have five criteria, so if we put those out of ten, average them out and then assign them a value on the spectrum of one to—”
—Shikamaru,” Karui, Manako and Temari chorus.
“Stop that!” Ino snaps.
“—then it would be more accurate,” Sakura finishes.
“If you’re still able to do math, you’re not drunk enough,” Tenten informs Sakura.
“You have no idea what I’m capable of when I’m drunk,” Sakura retorts. “And besides—I don’t get drunk.”
“Oh, so that wasn’t you Sasuke was carting home from dinner last weekend, slung over his shoulder and staring at his ass?” Ino challenges. “Hm, must have been some other pink haired lush with a mutant forehead.”

Prompt: Fairy prince Kakashi and lost human Sakura in a top that says "heartbreaker" "Do you humans often wear your titles proudly upon your chest?" 'A breaker of hearts' what an absurd thing to be."
Hi! Thank you for the prompt! I hope you like this! <3 @thatbabefiona
Sakura tripped over an overgrown root with a curse, a giggle, and a hiccup. Oh man, she was drunk—very drunk. She stumbled a bit before righting herself with a deep breath.
“Okay, bitch,” she mumbled to herself, sniffing as she tugged on the hem of her favorite low-cut top then pulled on the sleeves of Kiba’s flannel, “Pull yourself together. You’ve gotta win this thing.”
Placing her hands on her hips, Sakura casted a look around to gain her bearings. She stood in a nice little clearing in the middle of the woods, the sounds of emerging nocturnal critters filling the silence. The sun was setting and she knew without a doubt that if she dawdled for just a second more, she’d be absolutely and positively fucked.
In all honesty, Sakura felt that, at 25, she and her group of friends were getting too old to be doing their annual scavenger hunt. It had been fun when they were teens and even in their early twenties, but now they were just running out of ideas and it was getting to be a bit tedious and boring.
This year, they had placed Naruto in charge and Sakura thought that their group of friends would know by now that one could never trust Naruto with anything. He was just so unpredictable, and things always had a way of going wrong when he was at the helm; and to make matters worse, he had made Kiba his “second in command.”
Kiba was like a second Naruto but with facial hair.
Which led to her current predicament: standing alone in the middle of the woods looking for some silly object.
The night had started the same as every other year: they met at the hosts house, had some drinks, then commenced their hunt. This year Shikamaru was the host due to pulling the longest stick twelve years ago.
The Naras had a nice house—it was situated at the border of Konoha’s hiking trails and preserves—and normally Sakura would have loved to hang out on their backyard patio, swinging on Shikamaru’s hammock and enjoying the nice end of summer breeze; but this year that luxury was squashed by Dumb and Dumber’s announcement that their scavenger hunt was in the woods.
Now don’t get Sakura wrong—she had no problems with Konoha’s preserves and trails…during the day. But at night, whenever she was unfortunate enough to linger in the area, it always gave her the heebie-jeebies. There was something just not right with the place. She always felt like she was being watched, like something was following her, or like there was a secret she wasn’t privy too.
In short, she didn’t like being in there after dark.
Which is why, when Kiba announced their arena for the night, Sakura started taking shots of Fireball as if it could magically give her actual balls of fire. In hindsight, it was a bad idea. If maybe she had been a bit more sober, she wouldn’t be in her current predicament.
Sakura was lost.
Wait. She squinted at the base of a tree, making her way towards a small patch of mushrooms she was sure she’d passed on her way into the deeper parts of the woods.
Ah, nope. I’m lost.
Now you must surely be wondering how she’d be lost on her own if she had been with a group of people, and Sakura will gladly tell you how this came to be.
As kids, their game had first started with twelve people, which was great because that was an even number for three teams of four.
But then they (as teenagers were wont to do) discovered hormones and started pairing off. And that was fine because her friends were finding love with each other so that led to solid teams; and some of her friends were single so it wasn’t awkward for those who weren’t all kissy-kissy with their boyfriends and girlfriends.
That was until those who were single started dating people outside their usual group of friends and bringing them to the scavenger hunt. It was always a pain trying to make adjustments to their dynamic and adding them to teams—trying to fit a stranger who didn’t know how things worked.
Flings came and went until they were left with serious relationships. So, in the end, their number went from twelve to eighteen this year.
Or so Sakura thought.
She’d had a bit of a thing with one of her friends for a little over a year, beginning last year ironically during a scavenger hunt. She’d always had a crush on Sasuke, how could she not?
He was everything her little teenage angsty girl heart could ever want. He was like a angry surly cat she wanted to tame and bring home and love forever and ever.
But reality kind of sucks and Sasuke wasn’t a cat—surly and angry, but not a cat—and in the end, things didn’t work out, so they cut it off a little over two months ago. They were still friends—Sakura wouldn’t lie and say she didn’t care for him—but good sex wasn’t enough to make her stay.
Especially not when he admitted to her face that he didn’t think he had the emotional capabilities to “do” relationships.
So, imagine her surprise when he showed up to Shikamaru and Temari’s house with Naruto’s cousin on his arm. Sakura didn’t have a problem with Karin, in fact, she actually quite liked the fiery red head. It just hurt to see him moving on so soon and made her question all the things he’d said to her.
Because of Karin’s presence, the teams went from three groups of six to two groups of six and one group of seven.
In the end, Sakura ended up as the nineteenth wheel. She was the odd man out and the whole thing chafed, so she finished the entire bottle of Fireball Whiskey by herself and tried not to think about the couple exchanging soft words by the coolers.
She was placed on Ino’s team because the blonde, bless her heart, took an instant disliking to Karin on Sakura’s behalf.
“Well, if you won’t hate her, I will,” she’d said haughtily as she started writing their team name down on name tags. “Who does that hussy think she is? Everyone knows you and Sasuke were supposed to end up together, that’s why Lee finally gave up and got himself a girlfriend!”
Ino’s lips had pursed in irritation. “And now look—now we have uneven teams. Sasuke is such a dick.”
Ino had a point, Sasuke was a dick, but not for including Karin.
By the time they had broken off into their teams (theirs being the Heartbreakers), Sakura was too drunk to care about Ol’ Duck Butt and his Ketchup bottle girlfriend. In fact, when they’d started the hunt, she was having a great time! She wasn’t even thinking about how she was the seventh wheel and the only single person in her group of friends.
That was until their team had bumped into Naruto’s team and both sunshine blondes of her life started going at each other’s throats about winning the $475 pool. As soon as they parted ways, things went left.
“Alright!” Ino had stomped her foot, teeth gritting and eyes flashing dangerously, “There is no way we’re losing to that blockhead! We only have four things left. So that means we’re splitting up! Everyone grab a partner, pick a thing, and let’s get moving!”
The couples were quick to take hold of each other’s hands, announce their item and go in different directions—which left Sakura standing awkwardly by herself, alone in the creepy woods she hated being in in the first place.
She’d stood there for a moment, swaying a bit on her feet, before clearing her throat and starting to walk, huffing along as she went, “This is fine. We’re fine. I’m fine.”
Which leads us to where she is now, looking for a green glass bottle to match the color of her eyes.
And no, she wasn’t being vain, that was literally what the list said in Naruto’s photo copied block letters: “Green glass bottle that looks like Sakura’s eyes.”
The sun was setting quicker than she thought possible and even as drunk and uncaring as she was, it still served to make her feel uneasy. Sakura started feeling that sensation of being watched and it made her swallow nervously. But of course, they don’t call alcohol liquid courage without reason, so she trudged on in search of a glass bottle.
She pulled out her phone to check the time and saw a text message from Ino. Swiping her thumb across the screen, she squinted her eyes and tried to make out what in the hell the blonde was trying to say.
Peppa-Pig: Hry thr hell up 5 hed! We got our shiiiiizzzz! w8n on u! Wher r u?!
She’d just gone to reply when her screen went dark, indicating a dead battery. Sakura cursed at the block of technology in her hand, shaking it as if it would make it turn back on. As such, she didn’t notice the body in front of her until it was too late.
She bumped into what felt like a brick wall and was saved from falling on her butt only by virtue of being steadied by two large hands. Even still, she cursed as she cradled her throbbing nose, tears springing to her eyes and a pounding headache quickly taking the place of that nice cottony buzz she had going on.
“Ow!” She cried. “What the hell?!”
In between her rapid blinking, she could make out a man standing in front of her, tall as hell and super sparkly.
She tried blinking the tears away. Nope, still sparkly. She wiped her eyes, smearing what little bit of makeup she had on, and her jaw slackened.
In front of her stood the most gorgeous man she had ever had the pleasure of setting her eyes upon. Wherever the sun touched his skin, it sparkled like the finest marble. Green eyes drank in his face like a woman starved and by the way she was staring at him, you’d think she’d never seen a man before in her life.
Well, a man like this, at least. Which she sure hasn’t. Not at all.
His eyes shone like they were cut from granite and were framed by a set of finely shaped brows. They stared at her with open curiosity and maybe even a bit of contempt. Sakura’s eyes immediately wandered to his hair, spun out of what could only be pure moonlight. In it sat a crown of ivy and gold, and he only wore a pair of green pants slung low on his hips. No shoes, no shirt.
Sakura shut her mouth with an audible click.
Then she started giggling. Uncontrollably.
“Holy shit, girl, she gasped in between hysterics, “How much did you drink?! You’re hallucinating! You’re seeing fairies and crap!”
She bent over as full belly giggles took over, her pastel hair falling in curtains around her face, and when she straightened she was alone in the creepy forest of doom once more. Sakura shook her head; that was the absolute last time she was ever drinking Fireball Whiskey.
As soon as she got back to Shikamaru’s house, she was going to find out which one of those assholes slipped something into her drink and make them eat her fist.
“Do you humans often wear your titles proudly upon your chest?”
Sakura screeched, tilting her head back to see the same man from before standing on a branch above her.
“A ‘breaker of hearts,’ what an absurd thing to be,” he scoffed as he crossed his arms.
“Holy shit!” Sakura cried as she openly gaped up at him then scrambled back as he stepped off the branch to gracefully land in front of her like it were totally normal for men to fall out of trees.
He stepped towards her, completely invading her space, eyes narrowed and focused on her chest intently.
So, Sakura did what any woman in her position would do.
She slapped him.
The man reared back in shock and Sakura quickly covered her chest, her finger catching on the name tag Ino had stuck on there.
The man cradled his cheek as he stared back in disbelief.
“You struck me!” He exclaimed, eyes blazing as he took a threatening step towards her.
“You were being a pervert!” Sakura snapped, hands curling into fists.
“What?!”
“You were staring at my chest!”
The man gestured wildly at her torso, his little gold leaf crown sitting askew in his hair. “Only because you proclaim yourself to be a breaker of hearts!”
Sakura’s eyes narrowed in confusion before her lips rounded as she realized he was talking about her team’s name. Then her eyebrow shot to her hairline. Okay, this guy was weird.
“It’s a nickname,” she informed slowly because clearly this guy was missing a few screws. “Nothing special about it.”
The man’s arms crossed over his well sculpted chest, his crown still sitting lopsided in his hair, and Sakura wanted so badly to fix it because it was driving her crazy and he looked absolutely ridiculous.
Speaking of ridiculous….
“Sir—”
“Prince Kakashi.”
Sakura rolled her eyes, deciding to humor him for now.
“Okay, Prince Kakashi,” she saw him grit his teeth at her mocking tone. “Do you not know about nicknames? Why are you wearing a costume?”
Kakashi stared at her blankly to the point she was worried he’d gone brain dead and catatonic right before her eyes.
“A costume?” He repeated, head tilting to the side in a way reminiscent of a puppy. “This is royal attire.”
Sakura’s other eyebrow joined its sister at her hairline. Okay, so the guy was extremely hot, but he was also extremely weird. Now the question was, was he hot enough to overlook the weirdness?
He reached up to finally straighten his tilted crown and Sakura nearly swooned at the sight of his rippling muscles. Okay, so yes, he was hot enough and she was drunk enough.
So, because she hadn’t gotten laid in a while, Sakura took a step towards him and felt a bit of a thrill when he didn’t step back.
“Do you want to know why they call me a ‘Heartbreaker,’ Kakashi?” She teased, hands held tightly behind her back.
Kakashi’s eyes widened then narrowed suspiciously.
“Prince Kakashi,” he corrected, and Sakura nodded her head placatingly.
“Yes, yes, Prince Kakashi,” she cooed. “Do you want to know why?”
He took a closer step towards her and Sakura would be a filthy liar if she said it didn’t exhilarate her to be doing something so unlike her and bold.
His voice was a growl, husky and as electrifying as his eyes as he looked down at her, “Yes.”
“Then kiss me and find out.”
She only had a second to doubt and wonder about her actions before he, surprisingly gentle, curled his hands around her face and lowered his pillow soft lips onto her own.
Immediately, Sakura knew that this kiss would ruin her life. By the way he slanted his lips across her own, quickly taking control and sweeping his tongue along her lower lip and then teasing her tongue, she knew that she’d been kissing amateurs her whole life.
This was a kiss. This was mind blowing and the stuff of dreams.
And she wasn’t saying that because she was drunk.
Kakashi wrapped a corded arm around her waist, bringing her closer to him and pressing her to his chest. The angle made it so that he was too tall to reach, so they parted for a second only so that he could back her into a tree to hoist her up. Sakura’s legs wrapped around him as he buried his hands in her thick locks of hair, tugging on them gently so he could trail kisses down her neck.
Sakura had a fleeting thought that this was escalating quickly and that Hinata would surely be disappointed in her for kissing strange men in darkened woods. But Ino would be cackling madly and would probably be proud of her.
It’s that thought that makes her grind her hips into Kakashi, legs tightening desperately around him. She could feel him and wondered if she had it in her to have sex against this tree with a stranger.
Ino would have, if she were in her shoes and didn’t have Sai.
Kakashi moaned low in his throat as the kiss deepened further, Sakura raking her nails down his back and digging her feet into his lower back to bring him closer to where she wanted him most.
She could hear Ino now: calling her name and cheering her on.
Wait, that was Ino calling her name.
“Sakura!” She heard Ino call from the distance, then some more of her friends. “Where are you!?”
Sakura pulled back from Kakashi’s lips and rested her forehead on his shoulder with a groan, unwrapping her legs from around him and sliding slowly down his body.
He chuckled. “You are certainly a breaker of hearts.”
Fixing up her mussed hair, Sakura couldn’t help but laugh.
“I could say the same about you…” then as an afterthought, she added cheekily, “Prince Kakashi.”
Rolling his eyes, Kakashi adjusted himself before stepping away from her, the marks from her nails glaringly bright against his pale skin. Sakura felt bad but found that she liked that she left her mark on him.
She fidgeted a bit. Now that they weren’t on top of each other and she was sobering up, she had no idea what to say.
“Um—”
“I will find you again, worry not.”
Her shoulders sagged in relief. Kakashi tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, his fingers trailing gently over the soft skin of her cheek. She could hear her friends’ footsteps and voices as they got closer to finding her and she sighed. He leaned down to press a soft kiss to her forehead and then her mouth.
“I will visit you soon,” he murmured against her lips as her eyes slipped shut, savoring the moment with this gorgeous and enticing stranger.
“I will see you soon, Heartbreaker.”
And when she opened her eyes, she gasped as she saw him disappear into a tree. Not behind, but inside the tree! He gave her a cheeky wink and then he was gone, vines wrapping around the tree and flowers growing in the space he once stood. And with him went the feeling of being watched and followed.
Sakura felt a tickle near her ear just as Ino came up behind her with an exasperated cry of “Sakura! Where have you been?!”
Reaching up to touch the cherry blossom sprig tucked in her hair, Sakura only had one thought in her head.
Holy crap, I just made out with a fairy prince.
