Ok. I found the sea otter anime. It's 天地創造デザイン部 (Heaven's Design Team).

Apparently the sea otters aren't until episode 5 but it's hilarious so far. I love it.

On God I was working on the AEIWAM Outline today but I also got "The AEIWAM cast, post-fic, go to the Aquarium" brainrot so have this:

It kicks off with Retsu seeing Kenpachi deep in thought for once and asking him what he's mulling over and after a moment he asks: "Are there zoos for fish?" "...Pardon?" "There are lotsa fish," he reasons, "-at least as many as there are land animals, but they're all really hard to see, because they're in the water." Retsu considers him for a moment before gently asking "Do you mean The Aquarium?" "The what?"

Retsu, texting Ichigo in the Gotei-13 Groupchat at 2AM: I need you to acquire tickets and human chaperones for a group field trip to The Aquarium Ichigo, who fears her above everyone else in soul society: Yes, Captain. Retsu: If it was just the SWA I'd only ask for tickets but you know what The Lads are like. Ichigo: Unfortunately, Yes. Ichigo: I'll bring the first aid kit, zip ties, duct tape and candy. Retsu: Good man.

Upon Arrival, Kenpachi has already been lectured about "You ARE NOT ALLOWED to fight and/or eat the fish, no matter how annoying and/or delicious they look

Turns out they were lecturing the wrong guy because it's Byakuya that develops a personal rivalry with a grouper ("It's smug expression disgusts me." "Captain that is a FISH.") and has to be talked out of climbing into the tank to fight it

after that he has to hold hands with Rukia or Renji.

Rukia discovers Sea Bunnies and ends up crying about them.

Yachiru gets to see them feeding the Piranha and it's a Spiritual Experience for her.

Later, she gets to see them feed the sharks and it's an EVEN BETTER spiritual Experience.

Hitsugaya learns Penguins are real and not just 'made up for christmas, like the flying reindeer and the guy with the suspect toy charity'.

Momo lights into him about "Penguins are my favorite animal, they've been my favorite animal for decades YOU THOUGHT THEY WERE FAKE?" Hitsugaya: "YOU ALSO USED TO LIKE UNICORNS!" Momo: "THOSE ARE ALSO REAL!" Orihime: "They are?" Momo: "...I keep forgetting they're extinct in the living world."

Tousen gets to experience the Touch Pool and the docents realize what's up so they start pulling out the cool stuff like sea hares and moray eels because he's an adult that can be trusted to pet things gently.

When the group comes back to collect him the staff is letting him hand feed a Pacific Red Octopus, and Yachiru immediately demands she be allowed to as well.

Retsu quietly releases Minazuki into the stingray touch pool so she can "go play with her cousins :)"

Kenpachi and Yamamoto asking "Can we eat it?" about every. single. animal.

The extremely dedicated docent that is *just* Psychic enough to know something is up with this group of chucklefucks so they're following them through the aquarium, but is also genuinely having fun answering every fucking insane question these guys ask.

Yoruichi was not anticipating there to be Tigers at the aquarium (they ARE semi-aquatic and part of a larger exhibit on Tropical Riparian Ecosystems) and she is SUPER NOT JEALOUS of how much Urahara and Baby Labcat like them.

There is also an exhibit with an Anaconda that the docent finds Rangiku staring at with a forlorn expression. Docent: "It's okay, not everyone is a fan of snakes." Rangiku: "What? Oh, no, I love snakes. They just also remind me of my Ex." Docent: *WomanTryingToDoMath.Meme* Docent: *Considers the size of the Anaconda* Docent: "...Ah. Yeah, I'd miss a man like that too."

Renji, Ichigo and Ikkaku going "Its YOU!" to each other over every single red, orange or round creature.

Kenpachi going "IT ME!!" about the black urchins before anyone can get him though.

Shunsui pointing at the sea otters that are holding hands and declaring, tears in his eyes "Jushiro! It's US!" Ukitake then prompty ruins the moment by telling Shunsui Fun Facts about Sea Otters like how they're basically giant marine weasels that will absolutely drown each other's young and maul anyone dumb enough to touch one.

The Dolphins all love Komamura and he is just a little bit smug about this.

Relatedly, not sure if its funnier for Komamura to show up in a Human Gigai, or as Tousen's "Service Dog"

Human Gigai: -Komamura is weirdly stony-faced and sort of intimidating and everyone thinks he's stressed out but really he's used to making micro-expressions and gesturing with his ears so he sorta just forgot how to move his face. -Still Nine and a Half feet tall and smacking his head on Everything

Service Dog: -"He's uh. A Shepherd. Mix." Ichigo says to the aforementioned Docent about what is very obviously a Bigass Timber Wolf. -Sajin doesn't give a rat's ass about his cover and keeps talking to Tousen while in dog form. If anyone looks at him funny he makes direct eye contact and says "Woof. Bark."

Yamamoto vs. Escalator. Catastrophic Beard Incident. 2 injured, 16 Dead but they were like that already.

Ukitake, Retsu, and Tama all Not Shutting Up With Facts About Every Fish Ever because they all share a Special Interest.

They briefly lose Byakuya in the Jellyfish exhibit because Rukia and Renji both thought the other one was holding Byakuya's hand and he is *enchanted* by the wall-sized tank of Moon Jellies.

Ikkaku attempting to talk Yachiru out of getting the ridiculously oversized Great White Shark plushie only for Zaraki to get it for both of them instead.

Everyone had a great time and is Very Tired and so they don't realize anything is amiss until they get back to Ichigo's place and the nightly news comes on. "Hey ichigo?" Yuzu calls. "Why is Ms. Unohana on TV?" The news has a story with a still image of Retsu on CCTV and "Authorities are looking for this woman who somehow ADDED a fully intact and highly venomous short-tailed stingray to the aquarium's touch pool" "OH MY GOD WE FORGOT MINAZUKI!"

What Is and Isn't a Fish: a List

A list of the animals I discussed in my fish essay, but for those who don't want to scroll through paragraphs of text to find out if an animal is or isn't a fish. Just CTRL+F your way through here!

Some notes before you proceed:

Yes, all tetrapods are fish! We are phylogenetically fish, as we are and our ancestors were lobe-finned fish! "Fish" in the phylogenetic sense is a paraphyletic group if you try to exclude tetrapods, so it is frankly impossible.

How come tetrapods aren't listed as fish then? Long answer, read my essay. Short answer, me and other fish accounts tend to operate on the morphological definition of fish, so does most of the world. Here I use the morphological definition of "fish".

(I have received questions before about whether or not Vil and Floyd have a unique relationship of some kind since—besides Azul and Jade—Vil is the only character Floyd refers to by names outside of his own sea-life-naming-convention.

But he doesn’t!

Unlike Rook (who shifts between using French/Japanese/English with his nicknames and sometimes drops them completely) Floyd is strict about his names: he never uses any name with anyone besides the sea-creature name he decides for them, except for Azul and Jade. The game emphasizes this with Floyd’s “Azul’s Azul” line, so it is interesting that NA's continuity for Floyd is so flexible.)

Floyd does not know where to start his confession to you.

As he plays, he tries to come up with ideas of love confessions: a dance, a letter, a bite, or a gentle touch? Planning however puts a damper on the sweetness of what should be a romantic fantasy. Not that Floyd allows the turmoil to show, he plays perfectly. Each move of his is effortless, on the court and when playing with you.

He has been trying for a while to confess. Cowardness ties him up like seaweed.

If anyone were to rival Floyd’s energy, it would be you. You are eudaimonia incarnate. Flourishing with happiness and good spirit, you are a wonderful yet unexpected addition to Night Raven College. Where even Floyd falls into tepid moods of anger or sadness, you stay afloat. Somehow, someway, you are always happy.

Dribbling at practice, Crabby once joked that you were made of sugar, spice, and everything nice. Floyd yearns to know what a combination like that would taste on his tongue in a mating bite, sealing you two in marriage.

The Coral Sea is a triptych of shadow black, unwelcoming black, and cold black. You jump into his world, exploding with the color your soul carries. Through grimacing eyesight, he watches the gaiety of you bounce around even if it is blinding. You are the pinkest of pinks. You are the brightest orange that would rival sunkist shrimps. You are as yellow as the sun or a sky of stars, all consuming.

If shooting stars could fall into anyone’s eyes, they would fall into yours. Making little homes of fluctuating solar energy and the thumping glow of hydrogen and helium. The only eyes worthy of having stars in them.

He can feel the heat of those blazing stars on his neck as Sea Snake passes the basketball to him at midcourt line.

You sit in the bleachers with a handmade poster in your hands. To keep himself happy, Floyd deludes himself with the image of you making it alone. Without anyone handing you certain markers or glue for the glitter, you wrote WIN WIN WIN FLOYD in big, bubble letters for him and him alone. In his mind, you did not ask for the green colored pencil from anyone’s hand to shade in the caricature eel’s skin and you did not hyena-laugh when you accidentally got glitter on someone’s cheek or clothes.

The delusion of a reality where you only think about him 24/7 is sugar, spice, and everything nice. That is eudaimonia.

When Floyd scores twice in the first quarter with the aid of Sea Snake, you raise that poster up. Cheers from you are whole-hearted and never half-assed, you put everything into rallying encouragement you hope reaches and motivates Floyd.

You could frown and it would still motivate him.

When he scores for the third time, there are no vocal cheers shining down from the bleachers. Looking at the sea of unimportant guppies, he finds the reason your lips are silent. You are sharing a kiss with Jade, just two short pecks. Something you definitely initiated as Jade is timid with affection.

As he turns back to the court, Floyd imagines his confession would go like this:

“I love ya, Shrimpy.”

You laugh, almost falling off your seat, and say with a happy grin, “That’s a good one, Floyd. Tell another joke!”

Floyd is a clownfish of an eel. Not entirely like Crabby or Sea Otter, but Floyd has been marked as a class clown enough. Loud and boisterous, he is a presence that fertilizes laughter and amusement with ease. Perhaps the amusement is only shared by him, Jade, and Azul mostly, but it is still a jester’s position he has fallen into.

Nothing he says is ever taken seriously unless his words are threats. Unlike Jade, whose words are always heeded and who is taken seriously as a plague.

Floyd can be serious too though! Him and Jade are cut from the same cloth. Why can’t you see the other side of him? Why can’t your bright star eyes comprehend him as something more than a joking jester?

For a while, Floyd was content in that position. Jingling bells, stomping around in oversized shoes, falling over himself to fish that melodious laughter out of your throat. And then one of Jade’s mushroom puns got you snort in the midst of stomach deep laughter. Since then, no matter how many more quarters he plays, Floyd knows he lost.

Pure laughter is pure love in many cultures. And he, trapped in that monk’s cowl and sea anglerfish bells costume, has failed to make you laugh in that same intensity.

As he dribbles and passes the basketball, blocks shots and runs across the court, Floyd unpurposely distracts himself with a vile memory:

A party in Ramshackle. Not as extravagant as Sea Otter’s but still entertaining. As always, Floyd was like a lamp for tiny moths to gather around. Despite his pendulum-ing emotions, his company is enjoyable.

One off stories and jokes were a jester’s speciality. Capturing the attention of your friends and his fellow second years, Floyd keeps the conversation light and draws laughs out of throats like the Sea Witch once did with the little mermaid’s voice. The corner of where he is in Ramshackle is usually the loudest, brimming with comedy. The kind that should have gotten you to come over and ask curious, “What’s so funny?”

Crabby would have dismissed you but Floyd would have reeled you right in. His little Shrimpy, snug under his protective arm, as he recounted another story.

You do not laugh.

You do not look.

You just do not care.

That fucking party in Ramshackle? You spent it giving Jade a tour around the place, showing him the garden you started in the backyard, and chatting with that magnetizing, permanent smile on your lips. Before you two even were dating.

Floyd knows he does not have your total attention. Your attention is always spread in too many directions in his opinion. But sometimes, he wants more than anything for just one period of twenty-four hours where all you think about is him.

You may hold a sign with his name on it but he is not your focus. Star eyes follow the basketball that bounces from player to player; you watch the game fully, but not him.

Who would ever want to see a crying clown?

The game is in the third quarter. There are twelve minutes on the clock.

And Floyd finds himself benched.

Coach pulls him out of the game when five minutes are left in the second quarter. Coach worries about that rapidly declining mood of his in the second quarter. It is a volatile, gambling choice but the Coach thinks it is the correct one. Better to have him refuel and get back into the swing of the game. “Have a Gatorade and take a minute, Leech. No need to dig yourself down.” Floyd doesn’t want to drink his passion fruit Gatorade, he wants a different drink and he wants a peppermint to crush between his sharp teeth.

Elbows on knees and head in hands, Floyd watches the red clock go down number by number. Anger pulses off him like smoke. Fifty-eight. Fifty-seven. Fifty-six. Fifty-five. Stupid fucking Coach. Stupid fucking game. Stupid fucking Gatorade. Forty-nine. Forty –

“Peppermint for your thoughts?”

Stupid fucking Coach, Floyd thinks a second time. As is per tradition, if Floyd ever finds himself on the bench, call in Shrimpy. A small little crustacean that can reverse whirlpools back to sailable water and can make even the hungriest shark swim in the opposite direction of blood.

“It's a penny for ya thoughts,” Floyd grumbles into his hand.

“Nah, I don’t think so!” Is it possible to hear a smile in a voice? Because it feels like you speak in smiles; he imagines an alien language made by grins, one where no words like bad moods or anger exist. “Can’t eat a penny, can you?”

You take a seat by him on the bench. The space is left wide open because no one ever wants to risk being so close to the eel-mer when he is explosive with rage. When you sit, your shoulders bump together and from hip to shin, you two press against one another.

“So, the doctor is in. Doc. Shrimpy.”

Even when you are handing him something, his world minimizes down to the sight of your star eyes. The crunch of a peppermint wrapper in his hand is infinitesimal to the scorch of nuclear fusion and fire.

Still, he pops it in and relishes in the calming breakage of candy in his razor sharp teeth, replying, “I don’t know, just pissed I missed that shot.”

“Yeah, I saw that.” Liar. “I also saw you make two of the cleanest shots of the entire game in the first five minutes of the game.” Floyd hums instead of grumbling. It is the slightest, micro improvement but you still hammer on your past doctor-slash-therapist metaphor. “Say aaah for Doc. Shrimpy!”

This is the hardest part of being a clown. You do sweet, pseudo-romantic things with Floyd and never take it seriously. Everything between the two of you is shrouded under the blanket of comedy. There are zero feelings behind it. Even when you unknowingly partake in eel courtship (opening your mouth wide as you demonstrate your ‘aaah’), it is hollow and satire. And when you learn about his species’ courtship you will really only mean it with intent when you are with Jade.

“Aaah!”

Into his mouth, you pour a drink. His shoulders recoil at bit, premature disgust at the thought of tasting passion fruit which he is not in the mood to drink. Floyd is surprised when the drink starts to fizz in his mouth.

As he savors it, the carbonation and sourness a welcome burn in his throat, you smile and show him the drink you have on hand. “Shit’s good, right?” In front of him, you shake a monstrously bright pink and yellow can with the words Ghost on it. “Sour pink lemonade.”

You take the Ghost you just waterfall into Floyd’s mouth and down your own sip. Be careful, Shrimpy, Floyd thinks. Sharing food and drink is also a part of courtship.

“Gross, Shrimpy. You backwash?”

“Yeah, I did. How does loogie and lemonade taste?”

At that, Floyd snatches up the energy drink from your hands. He downs a much larger sip, going as far as to have some spill around the corner of his mouth. He takes the opportunity too to touch his lips on where yours once were.

Once he robs you of half your lemonade, Floyd brings his wrist to wipe his chin and grins wolfish, “My compliments to the chef! Think Azul’ll add it to the menu?”

You laugh just as Floyd was aiming for, all saccharine and lovely, and joke, “Oh my spit could make a fortune! I can see it now!”

“Shrimpy spit?”

“Oh my God, Shrimpy spit! It has alliteration!”

You two fall into each other, cackling and laughing at the stupidity. When your hair brushes his cheek, Floyd thinks of how easy it would be to find his lips falling to a place more forbidden than the metal rim of an energy drink can.

After you both stop laughing: “Ya gonna feed me some more, Shrimpy?”

“Hm, I don’t know. Mmm, how about this,” you grin, stretching out your sentences teasingly. “I have some takoyaki with your name up there on the bleachers. Jade and I made it yesterday. You can have the rest when you win this game!”

Your star eyes burn him. Floyd melts under their intensity.

The game is in the fourth quarter. There are twelve minutes on the clock.

Everybody loves a clown, so why don’t you?

Has he not been enough? Self-sacrificial to always keep you bright and laughing, giving you his own light, letting you bleed him dry until his skin is sandpaper and his bone rice. This constant fear that he should always try to keep you happy lies in his heart like a nematode worm.

His sugar, spice, and everything nice Shrimpy who does not belong to him.

Standing on the edge of the 3 point line, Floyd, despite his cowardice, sends out the last shot of the game.

The basketball glides across the rim like a ship caught in a whirlpool, once. Then a second time, it makes its circular route around the open mouth of victory, leaning capriciously. With a suicidal fall, the basketball falls to the right. It bounces double on the ground before rolling away out of Floyd’s reach. Over the white tape of the endline, the orange ball is now out of the court, signaling the end.

Though under typical circumstances that losing shot should usher him into despair, a smile grows on Floyd’s face. It is only broken when he starts to laugh, his own joy singular in the groans and moans of his teammates.

He turns towards the bleachers, knowing you are expecting a miserable frown; he waves happily at you when your worried eyes fall onto him. You are out of his court. But … eels mate for life which means … Floyd gets to keep you in his life, just a bit out of reach, as he dreams of your love, not knowin’ where to start.

The game ends in the fourth quarter. There are no minutes left.

Nightime was for sleeping. Wasn't it? That's what you thought, too. After a long day of chasing around your trio of best friends and keeping them out of any accidental trouble, you were nackered.

All was calm and silent. Grim was asleep at the foot of your bed, and your ghost roommates seemed to also retire for the day. You were comfortable in your nightwear, getting ready to pass out like a log for the next few - hopefully eight - hours.

Tap.

Ramshacke dorm sure was old. Random sounds of the inferstructute shifting on itself and other things creaking and tapping was like background music at this point. Barely different to the the way one thought of the sounds of birds chirping and leaves rustling upon contact with the wind.

Tap.

It was the sound again. This time, it was like the sound that happens when tapping on glass.

Glass.

You slowly got up from your bed. The wooden frame creaking as your body mass shifted across the mattress. Carefully, your feet landed on the floor with a quiet pat, hoping to keep your feline companion from stirring in his sleep.

A shadow loomed outside your window. A lanky one. Estimated to be around six feet and three inches tall. You squinted your eyes in confusion. Breathing in weird chemicals during alchemy class was really starting to get to you. The tapping continued as there was movement from the shadow on the other side of the clear barrier.

You quickly drew your curtains to the side and was met with the face of your favourite mer.

Floyd was at your window, sporting his mischievous grin and squinted eyes. Your eyes widened, and you shreaked, "Floyd?!"

His smile grew, and he said something in response, though you couldn't hear him due to the glass.

"Huh?"

He gestured for you to open the window, and you complied. As soon as you did, a mighty gust of wind rushed past, and the curtains fluttered, whipping around your body along with your clothes. You stared at Floyd with a starstruck expression, eyes wide and highlighted by the shine from the moon and stars with your mouth slightly agape.

"Floyd?" You breathed with confusion.

"C'mon, Shrimpy, let's go for a ride!" He held out his hand for you to hold onto and leaned in.

"What are you doing?!" You shrieked, "How are you flyiNg?!"

Floyd laughed at your panick and the way your voice broke at the end of your sentence.

He wordlessly leaned over to pick you up from under your arms like a toddler. You hovered in the air for a second before you were effortlessly hoisted up and onto whatever Floyd was floating on.

You blinked once. Then twice.

"Let's hang out," Floyd sang with his face inches away from yours.

"Wait, this carpet..."

"Yeah?"

"Is this Kalim's?!" Your voice cracked again, "How did you even-"

He simply laughed and watched your face change to an expression of panick, panick, and more panick with a hint of terror.

You stared him with your mouth hanging open in complete shock. You knew Floyd often acted upon his impulses and did some things that were out of the ordinary, but this was something you didn't expect.

"If Jamil finds out, he's gonna explode!" You shrieked, balling fists into your hair.

"Sea otter said it was fine," Floyd continued to smile his smug smile, "And if sea snake finds out, so what?"

So, Floyd didn't steal Kalim's magic carpet, aka one of the most precious items in the entirety of the Scalding Sands- or even the whole of Twisted Wonderland and beyond. Although, that didn't stop your mind from racing in sheer panick. What if you accidentally tore it? Or it got stained, and machine washing it would destroy its historical value or something, and it needed money to be fixed? You'd be stuck paying that debt for the rest of your life-

Floyd looked over at you in your bewildered state. A pair of large hands grabbed at your face by your cheeks and snapped you out of your trance, and you turned your eyes towards the owner of said hands. He squished your cheeks several times, staring at your various facial expressions as he did so. Ever since you got to spend more time with him, it was something that he often did when your brain went into overdrive and you blanked. Strangely, it always seemed to calm you down quite a lot.

"What if we have to pay for damages or something?!" Your brain was finally putting words together in coherent sentences again. That was good.

"Don't think about it now, shrimpy," He smiled at you softly, "For right now, just have some fun, yeah?"

You furrowed your brows and crossed your arms, "Don't wanna."

"But there's somewhere I wanna take you," He grinned at you cheekily, and you couldn't hold your resolve any longer.

"...Fine, but tell me where we're going!"

"It's a surprise!"

"Just tell me!"

"Don't wanna." Floyd mimicked you, and you sighed heavily. This was going to be a long night.

But at least the merboy wasn't dragging you all the way to the bottom of the ocean or anything crazy like that. Right?

When all was said and done, you found yourselves far away from campus and leaving Sage's Island. You looked around in awe in wonder. It truly was beautiful here. There weren't many landmarks aside from the two campuses on the island and trees, which seemed very close and very tall from the distance. The sky remained dark as the sun had long since retired for the day, the colors of blue darkening even further as the stars and full moon made their rounds.

Maybe it was the height at which you watched the island from, or it was the fact that you were with a certain teal-headed sophomore, but the view was much more breathtaking than you'd imagined it would be.

"It's so pretty up here," you sighed.

Birds flocked around and you turned to Floyd with a relaxed smile, only to find him already staring at you with an awestruck expression.

It was rare to see Floyd this quiet, as he was never shy of voicing his emotions whenever he wanted to. For once, he didn't seem like he wanted to be making jokes or teasing you. His head tilted back slightly as the breeze brushed through his hair, and you could feel your heart stammer for no good reason. You averted your gaze away and scratched at your ear.

"Thanks for bringing me up here," you mumbled with a gulp, a little sheepish from your earlier panick and apprehension.

He grinned and took your hand without hesitation, his fingers gently curling around yours, "Anytime."

The moonlight shone on the pair of you as the two soared towards the edge of the island that bordered the sea. The carpet slowly lowered itself down onto the sandy terrain, and you could see the water tumble over its own body a short distance away.

Floyd moved closer to you, taking your hand in his as if it was the most natural thing to do and lead you towards the water.

He left you at the water's edge and began removing his shirt, making your face burn.

"Uh...what are you doing?" You managed to croak, warmth still biting at your cheeks.

He smirked at you, "Going for a swim."

Before you could reply and even try and argue, you noticed that Floyd had slipped off his shirt and was now entering the water. Slowly, his smooth skin grew scales as his body changed colour. He'd transformed into his eel form after getting a feel of the water.

For a few moments, you watched him swim around, disappearing into the water and occasionally appearing out of it to glance at you with a grin. His movements were smooth and graceful. His tail moved lazily through the water and you noticed it was quite muscular but soft looking. Almost like a cat's, you thought absentmindedly.

Now that you thought about it, you'd seen Floyd in his mer form many times. Though for some reason, this time felt different. Maybe it was the way the moon rays reflected off of each of his glistened scales and the look of pure joy that graced his features as he swam freely. Or maybe it was because he had a playful, endearing twinkle in his eyes. He looked at peace and free, and that is what made you happy.

You were so caught up in admiring Floyd that you failed to notice his presence next to you as you subconsciously neared the shoreline. His cold, smooth tail stroked your calf. Startled, you stumbled backwards and fell over onto your butt, sending him into a fit of laughter.

Floyd giggled and grabbed your hand, tugging you closer to the sea.

"I'm gonna get wet!" You shreiked as you felt the chilly waves hit your feet.

Floyd pouted and furrowed his brows into an expression that looked more cute than angry. "I can just dry you with magic."

"But-"

"Come on~!" He drew out his words, and you sighed.

You reluctantly stepped forward until your feet made contact with the wet sand,

"Alright, alright! But if I get sick, I'm blaming you!"

His eyes lit up, and he pulled your hand again, dragging you across the wet ground and into the rising water. You yelped at how cold the water was on your skin and almost fell on your behind again. After the second time of stepping into the water, your skin tingled pleasantly, and the sensation made you smile.

Floyd let go of your hand to turn around and grab your waist before swimming backwards with you now in front of him. His arms wrapped around your waist protectively yet gently, and you could faintly feel his heartbeat through your now damp clothes. You were so close and close enough that you could see every single detail on his face.

Your eyes were locked onto his teal skin, and you felt as though someone was holding your heart tightly in their grip and wouldn't ever let go.

"Hey," Floyd called out to you, and it took you a moment to snap out of whatever spell you were under.

"Hm?" You glanced at him.

"I love you," He whispered quietly, his voice filled with such sincerity that felt almost alien to you.

You blinked.

Oh.

You stared at Floyd for a moment, stunned. Your mouth hung open for a moment, your brain scrambling to comprehend what he just said. The air suddenly became very thick and you were worried your heart would explode. All the blood in your body froze. You couldn't hear a single noise coming from anywhere, nor could you hear your own ragged breathing. All that seemed to matter was Floyd, who was currently gazing at you as if you were the most priceless treasure that he had ever seen. Your heart was pounding in your chest violently, thumping wildly as your eyes widened in surprise.

You weren't even sure what you and Floyd were. From the way he treated you compared to others, you knew he saw you as maybe a little more than a friend, but you were never certain. If anything, you hid your feelings for him throughout your friendship in hopes of not ruining a relationship you were already more than happy with. Floyd was impulsive and often did a lot of things considered out of the ordinary, sure, but the sincerity in both his eyes and voice said that this wasn't the case.

It seems like "best friends" was no longer an accurate description of your relationship.

Slowly, you felt a huge grin spread across your face. Floyd returned the smile, his pointy teeth shining brighter when the moonlight reflected against them, and his face illuminated with mirth. Then, slowly, his hands lifted themselves to frame your face, and he slowly leaned closer, bringing his lips to meet with yours in an awkward kiss. His lips were soft and slightly wet from the saltiness of the sea breeze. It felt wonderful. After a while, you broke apart slowly, smiling happily at each other, and a wave of jumbled but positive emotions washed over you. It was overwhelming. You couldn't believe it. You were happy, absolutely happy, ecstatic even! Why? Because Floyd loved you. That stupid fishface loved you.

"Me too," you breathed quietly as the moon's silver ribbons illuminated your eyes, "I like you a lot."

Maybe this interruption to your sleep time wasn't so bad after all.

I would like to offer this resource for therians, an extensive list of all of Sir David Attenborough’s nature documentaries that are available on soap2day, and a full list of what species* they each (notably, prominently) feature the natural behaviors of, separated by episode, and omitting species that were only shown dead, juvenile or being predated on. This took me a while (I have been working on it since Prehistoric Planet’s release) because I did in fact have to watch every single series in full in order to list all the species and the episodes are around 50 minutes long, but enjoy.

Floyd's Nickname Analysis

We all know that they can be correlated to how they look or act, but what if they were also actions or personality traits that each person has?

Riddle- "goldfish" or "kingyo"

He's red (Trigger for Floyd). He feels bad that Riddle is trapped in a "fishbowl" and hopes for him to explore the ocean. Can get violent, unlike what he seems (goldfish eat other fish; they can be at the top of the food chain depending on what fish you consider)

Ace- "crab" or "kani"

He's spiky and red (hair and personality-wise). Eels eat them; they are great prey for them (like in the 3rd arc, with the contracts)

Deuce- "mackerel" or "saba"

Mackerels are called "blue-backed fish", which spoil easily (In Japanese it can be translated to "Fast legs". Mixed with his track/field club). In France, I think, April Fools can be called April Fish day. Mackerels can be caught a lot in April. He is kind of... Stupid (Fool)

Cater- "snapper" or "hanadai" (This is from the wiki, which is correct, but I'll explain why I can't translate this correctly)

I can't translate his name because there isn't an actual fish; there are tons of fish that are called hanadai (just to name a few; akaobihanadai, sujihanadai, nagahanadai), kind of like a sub-family (different personalities). He is the only one so far who has a more vague nickname.The ones I think about have a tall nose, which reminds me of Pinocchio, whose nose gets taller the more they lie. They are pretty though.

Some of them are called “sea goldies” (a clue about how he could have been ex-dorm leader)

They eat shrimp... Maybe one day he'll hurt us

Trey- "sea turtle" or "umi kame"

They're smart, and they can also go on land (Secret?). He's the father of Hearts, and turtles and Disney remind me of a certain sea turtle in the Nemo series. And I think turtles are smart (glasses maybe?)

Leona- "Todo" or "Sea Lion"

As it's called, he is a lion. Sea lions can go on land... I wonder if he knows something outside of the ocean (Twisted Wonderland)..? Reminds me of Grim in a way.

Ruggie- "sharksucker" or "kobanzame"

He's always with Leona, like them with sharks. They eat scraps, and look out for a chance to strike, like for food.

Jack- "sea urchin" or "uni"

He's spikey with his hair. He's different than he appears; Sea urchins look inedible, but they are rich and creamy. I mean rich as with knowledge and mild as in personality in his case. And he is from the north, where I think good sea urchins are harvested. I wonder if the orange has anything to do with his dorm color. I can't say this for sure, but rich as in money.

Jamil- "sea snake" or "umihebi"

He's a snake. And like one, he is pretty, but with poison. I wonder if Floyd knows about the snakes' hint in the mirror. Anyways, I think Floyd thinks Jamil is similar to Jade (Sea snakes can be mistaken for eels sometimes)

Kalim- "Sea Otter" or "Rakko"

I wonder if his hair was brown, and not white... They are gourmets and can't eat without their favorite rock (Jamil). And he is hunted down because he is rich... (Sea otters were hunted down for their pellets). The turban reminds me of the seaweed they wrap around.

Epel- "guppy"

Not good with bettas, and loose to them. They are sensitive with temperature; Epel get heated up sometimes and is usually cool (faking his personality)

Vil: "Betta"

They get tired after flaring too much (overblot; with the issue with Neige). Really pretty, and aggressive. Not good with mirrors because of this (Mira with Vil)

Rook: "black-tailed gull" or "umineko"

He's in the sky, compared to the ocean. They can get wild and fast when they want. He's also a hunter (they hunt fish). He also has cat eyes. (they are literally called sea cats in japanese)

Idia- "firefly squid" or "hotaruika"

They glow like his hair. That's all I can say as for now

Ortho- "sea angel" or "clione"

He is an angle, but they can change rapidly with their looks to be quite... terrifying.

Malleus- "Nudibranch" or "Umiushi"

He's kind of cute with his personality, actually, he's more fluffy than cute though. They have something that looks like 2 horns.

Lilia- "flapjack octopus" or "mendako"

Like Azul, he is strong, unlike his looks. His hair reminds me of a flapjack octopus.

Silver:"jellyfish" or "kurage"

They're usually kind of white. They can hurt a lot when they attack. Unlike the people in his dorm, he is human so his life expectancy is short compared to them.

Sebek- "crocodile" or "wani"

Probably a reference to Sobek, the Egyptian god. He does remind us of a crocodile/alligator; he eats a lot, his phase in battle, etc.

The ones he adds -kun to (Cater, Jamil, Rook, Sam, and Trey) are a bit... troublesome in some way. I think Floyd sees Twisted Wonderland as the Ocean if you couldn't tell, so if they can go on land, they either know something or correlated in some way to MC/the lands beyond it.

MY MORAX DRAGON PLUSH WAS UP AGAINST THE RADIATOR AND NOW HE’S SO WARM AND LOVELYYY. Hm… actually…

I wonder if his dragon form is an endotherm or not… I suspect Neuvillette’s is, he seems primarily mammalian based (he still has horns and a tail). I don’t know whether or not Zhongli is, I think the consensus for more reptilian dragons is that they’re ectothermic, like Apep & Ourobaxi, but for Chinese dragons I’m not sure.. he has some reptilian features like his main snake-like body having scales, and his claws are probably reptilian not avian. He also has antlers and a beard/mane which are features that endotherms would have, and whiskers which are probably most similar to fish (ectotherm) whiskers (sometimes called barbels)

Dvalin too is one that’s confusing, and I think he actually might be even more bird/mammal based. His body is covered in fur and feathers, and only really has scales at his head and feet. I originally imagined him to be like typically European dragons (ie. probably an ectotherm that reptilian like) but if anything he seems to be mainly bird-like, especially his tail. The material of his wings though is so confusing! It’s hard to tell whether there’s feathers or if it’s even butterfly-esque wings!! I’m tentatively putting him as warm blooded.

Azhdaha is probably cold blooded, although his body is heavily affected by the elements, and he even has a tree growing out of his tail… the designers of Azhdaha said he was inspired by many things (being crocodile-like, as well as based on a ‘quadruped toad’, Komodo dragon, alligator snapping turtle and stegosaurus) but they all are ectotherms.

Both Ursa the Drake and Durin (though he seems to have had a very damaged body even when he was alive) are much more based on typical European dragons than Dvalin, and appear to both be cold blooded too.

So my guess is this:

MOST LIKELY TO BE WARM-BLOODED

-Neuvillette (there’s a chance he might be more like a serpent, but he’s also designed very similarly to Fontaine otters. His ladle- very presumably based on his dragon- doesn’t give us many details either. He has horns & a tail that looks like a fluke (aquatic mammal tail) rather than a fish tail (caudal fin). So my guess is warm blooded!)

-Dvalin (bird/mammal/potentially insect type)

-Morax/Zhongli/Deus Auri <- this might be his oldest title, it precedes him being the Geo Archon by several thousand years. (Chinese dragon- 龙/龍 type. If anyone knows whether they’re official warm or cold blooded please tell me!)

-Ursa & Durin (European reptilian type)

-Azhdaha (mixed reptile/amphibian type)

-Elynas (probably cold blooded, Rhine seems to make that kind. Melusines are confusing biologically, but how similar he is to them is unknown. His projected spirit looks like one, but his corpse/skeleton is like Durin. Melusines look potentially mammalian but also have rhinophores… then again they sometimes have small wings. Real life melusines are a mix of human & sea serpent. So like. I really don’t know what category to put them in)
