It’s so funny (I don’t mean actually funny) how mad Zoro got about everyone being knocked out on Punk Hazard because it brought back his bad memories (trauma) from Kuma and Sabaody. And the way that he just immediately called out to Luffy when he realized how easily they went down. Like. Zoro just listens to Luffy without question (and for a person who only saw pirates as bad guys he could use for money, he’s always been awfully strict with “captains orders” and he tends to idealize Luffy as his captain a lot like how he wouldn’t let Luffy just forgive Usopp-- which was definitely good for Luffy at the time because he didn’t stand his ground as captain as often as he should). But idk when Sanji said 'He’s so harsh with himself' after Zoro got all mad in Punk Hazard I was like. Oh. Yeah he is. He was probably just letting out steam. It was funny and a little sad. You can easily tell that Zoro blames himself for a lot of things especially for being the first to go in Sabaody and no matter what anyone could say he probably still thinks he isn’t strong enough.
Sorry for always referencing a fic at least once in these things but I started thinking about a recent one I read where Zoro was told to cherish his body more. He thinks of limbs as accessories that can just come and go, like how the stitches on his feet were from him trying to free himself from mr3 and how willing he was to cut off his own arm to free himself from a pair of stupid handcuffs in Enies Lobby. Zoro probably sees overcoming pain as a form of strength ('If I’m phased by this, am I really that strong?') you’d think a swordsman like him would know strength is a lot more than that. Especially considering how often his injuries have been used against him (like seriously. Off the top of my head: when he fought Cabaji with an open stab wound, when he fought against Arlong with the scar from Mihawk, when he got targeted by Kizaru with the damage from thriller bark) it’s unreal how little he values his body in the name of what he thinks is “strength”.

ah the parallels
#first between light and l#where light knows l wasnt above testing the validity of the notebook in order to 'beat the game' and admires / respects him for it#because l is like light in many respects esp when it comes to his pride and willingness to play dirty#and there is no one light loves or admires more than himself#(tho i would say one of the reasons L's character isn't completely scathed by these flaws / similarities is that he knows#that he lowkey sucks and chill with it while light would write a reddit essay#in third person to defend himself)#(i.e. L knows exactly who he is and understands that others may not agree with him but is willing to damage his image#for the sake of the case. while light needs everyone to think he's the most moral and intelligent person in the room at all times#while lying through his teeth in order to maintain said image)#and secondly between l and near#where near proves that despite everything he will surpass l#by defeating light with a 'perfect victory'#one where no one needs to be sacrificed while still truly destroying kira by destroying light's ego.#L wanted to win. Near wanted to defeat kira#i have converted to the near defense team heehee#perhaps near won because never once did he admire light. he is not similar to light because light is a criminal and a loser#L's loss was likely due to his becoming too close to light. obviously he recognized light was kira the entire time but#i think he got too caught up in finally finding someone like him. near also cites L getting personally involved as a reason he lost#idk it's all very interesting.#also light assuming l's identity after his death. he gets to be his two favorite people!#to be clear i dont think L is some monstrous example of moral decay. he represents the system and works within it to bring kira to 'justice#we see the flexibility in that system during the second arc. 'justice' is whatever light mikami l or near decides it is. justice is who win#ig the best way to put it is that i see light has having a self-centered morality in that he'll twist anything to justify his actions#even if on the surface he claims they're for society's benefit#while L has an ends-justify-the-means approach and works within the system.#his actions aren't coated in quite as much narcissism as light's beliefs lol#+ he doesnt necessarily claim solving the case is for society's benefit. he plainly states it's because he finds it interesting#meanwhile near makes several remarks about how much he hates the world under kira. for him it's not about narcissicm at all#tbh soichiro i think is supposed to represent the moral backbone of the series. anyone who has/uses the power to kill is cursed

there are a lot of things that make the locked tomb series so appealing, like yeah lesbians with swords, bones, deeply fucked up and compelling dynamics etc, but fundamentally possibly the most enticing aspect of it is the sheer amount of pathetic women in it. we are living in an age of DROUGHT of pathetic women in media; the Girlboss trope, in its most stereotypical and mind-numbingly basic interpretation, reigns supreme. the female silly little meow meow is ENDANGERED. but not in the locked tomb series! in fact there are several of them here and they’re all pathetic in different special ways, which doesn’t prevent them from also being badasses and strong, skilled fighters, but CRUCIALLY they are also losers!! and that’s what makes them so great!!!! like we have the self-sacrificing butch lesbian jesus-figure with a hole in her chest and the most pathetic case of Simping in history, canonically known as the ‘saddest girl in the universe’, the evil stick feral kitten lesbian nunlet with a bone fetish that everyone for some reason is obsessed with (no actually it’s understandable), the super tall ghost-looking ‘problematic’ lesbian with a bone arm who loves to cause problems on purpose, her even taller and more insane twin sister and her deeply repressed constantly half-dead crush who’s pretty much always having the worst time out of everyone in a series where everyone is always having the worst time. oh and of course the eldritch horror dressed up as a barbie doll

In Response to Criticism of Loser, Baby
According to the yt comments under prime's upload of Loser, Baby, apparently some folks are taking offense to Husker comforting Angel by telling him he's a loser and to get over it and somehow framing this lovely lovely song as victim blaming??
the media literacy bar really is in hell
I do think the song plays out far better in the context of the show, and isn't really made to be a standalone piece of consumable media, though I will be treating it as such in the coming days by endlessly looping the video
anyway, this is a song that brings comfort and hope to both characters thanks to who each character is and what situation each is in. These are vital pieces of context that are important to understanding the message of the song. It's important to realize one method of comfort is not going to work for every situation-- the particular method in Loser, Baby works because of what the characters are looking for in the moment.
Husk confronts Angel on his self-destructive tendencies, to which Angel responds that drugs, sex, and immediate dopamine hits are his escape, and that, even in the worst case, even if he destroys himself, it'd be better than the situation he's currently in (a suicidal, scary thing to say)
In the previous scenes in the show, we've seen that Angel takes an almost comedic level of pride in his work, eager to drag the gang off to sex dungeons and show them his porn tapes. He delights in how uncomfortable his world makes them and constantly does bits, putting on a character that's hypersexual, that seems like he's in control and wants to be doing the sex work he's doing
This is very clearly an attempt at masquerading a level of power over his life that he doesn't actually have; in reality, he has no choice but to be sexually exploited, but if he acts like he chooses it, it almost feels like he owns his life. Or, really, it almost looks to others that he owns his life. It's all about performance and perception with Angel; he hates the idea of looking like someone who needs saving, hates looking like a victim, and hates being seen as powerless, so he tries to act like he's none of those things. Of course, he can't really lie to himself, so he resolves that inner turmoil (suffering that he completely internalizes because he doesn't want to break his facade) through drugs, sex, alcohol, and even pain as distraction.
Which is why "Loser, Baby," is so fucking wonderful! Husk is telling him, over and over, that he's not fooling anyone, that his little character he's sacrificing so much to play isn't worth it, that Angel's a loser and everyone can tell. If you take his words at face value, it's cruel and unkind and could make things worse--- that is, if this wasn't Husk and he wasn't talking to Angel.
It's freeing. Angel is being told that he doesn't need to do his bullshit performance, that he can be a loser, and that everyone at the hotel's a loser too, so no one's gonna judge him. It's a song about accepting where you are in life, about stopping Angel's denial of reality and refusal of vulnerability.
Most of all, it's a very kind gesture on Husk's part. It wouldn't have worked if Husk hadn't also loudly called himself a loser and opened up about his past mistakes. It's a wonderful song about mutual vulnerability and accepting imperfections and mistakes and accepting that you're in a shitty place so you can finally stop self-destructing and start finding solace in other people also in shitty places.
also it's gay soooooo not too much on my beloved huskerdust

It’s a new year and I’m reading usagi yojimbo again and I’m back to drawing usagi without bangs
now I’m making a case why hueso would want nothing to do with hiring usagi. He clears the rotm maze in record time but attracts so much trouble hueso refuses to employ him. Thus how he would end up on Big Mama’s radar and gets stuck fighting in the nexus.
Then when he befriends Leo they both realise what self sacrificing losers they both are

Consistently shocked by the idea that people think Bradley Rooster Bradshaw is chill and laid back. He’s actually shockingly unchill. He is the opposite of chill. He did not inherent any of his parents chillness. He’s a loser who’s too invested in everything.
Like ya hi I’m Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw and I cut off my remaining family, surrogate father, and support system for 15 years cuz he pulled my naval academy papers because he didn’t want me to die like my biological father and because my mother wanted me to be free of the navy’s confinements and to exist outside of a system that physically uses me for their own power and political gains— gains I will never experience and feel for myself. A system that sees me as no more than a number, a soldier, something easily replaceable, as a body to be sacrificed in a war that i did not start nor will i finish.
“Bradley's chill.” No he’s not. He’s a beast. He’s a 30 something year old man whose entire purpose revolves around holding a grudge and proving his surrogate father wrong. This beast who literally said this to his surrogate father— "No wife. No kids. Nobody to mourn when you burn in." Beastly. Ghastly thing to say. 15 years and he still hates the guy who's been there for him since day one. He’s a guy who refuses to even begin to understand where Mav was coming from or to even think of what his mother wanted. He’s evil. And I love him.
Hi I’m Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw and when someone brings up a well known, easily accessible fact that my father and surrogate father used to fly together I will try to cause physical harm against them and my friends will have to physically hold me back. I’m Bradley Bradshaw and I was willing to put my entire career on the line (the one in which I put my family aside for) so I can attack and beat this guy up.
I love his big ol’ Bambi eyes… he’s evil and fucked up and he’s not chill. Yes he wears jorts and tropical shirts, but that just means he’s gay and a fucking liar. Just cuz he looks like some surfer dude does not mean that he’s actually laid back like one. He’s lying to himself— trying to convince himself he is something that he is not and never will be. He is unchill. He’s lame. He has undiagnosed anxiety and it physically expresses itself through anger and loserly-ness. He cares so much to the point of self sabotage. He will always be unchill, no matter how much he tries to change that fact.

TOBY ROGERS HEAD CANONS I HAVE !! ☆
.* CW ; Mention of drug use / sh. *.
None of this is necessarily supposed to be taken seriously so please don't tug on my balls or anything. :')
I'm gonna do a list of HCs that lean on the more " realistic " side and then some that are just kinda for fun !! YAYAYYAYAYAY !!
★ —
Okay firstly, Toby absolutely smells like shit and sweat. (*DUE TO HIS CIPA, NO HE DOESN'T ACTUALLY SWEAT*) There is NO doubt about it. I gotta admit, seeing HCs that are like "He probably smells like vanilla!" just don't sit right with me because he definitely is a very smelly man
He chews on things he isn't supposed to ( real ) ( technically canon ; did it to his cheek and hands )
He probably mutters to himself on the regular like, nonstop, incoherent bullshit that's literally about nothing
He drools out of his cheek gash unintentionally
* He would probably be a stoner. Whenever he actually attended school he got his hands on it every once in awhile, probably STINKS of weed
HE IS AN ABSOLUTE LOSER. Probably listens to midwest emo music and cries to it like a bitch 😒
If he holds hands with someone he fidgets with their fingers
He's really nitpicky about his bandages, if they aren't wrapped on the correct way he hyper focuses on it for hours until they're just right
HE PLAYS WITH ACTION FIGURES. Not necessarily in a childish way but he likes to pose them
He paces
* Self inflicted scars like all across his body ( this is technically canon but we ball )
Can barely grow like any facial hair so whenever he starts to have a little bit of a stache coming in he savors the moment
Cannot cook. Burns his food
Loves raccoons so much. Tries to cuddle them but usually gets his face mutilated by some claws if he even gets near one
His favorite hero is Wolverine because he relates to him in a way
Sits down in the shower ( whenever he actually remembers to shower )
One time he got caught in a bear trap and walked around with it clamped to his leg for like a day
Major jealousy problems, especially whenever slenderman is giving the other proxies more attention than him. He takes it so seriously because he sacrificed his relationship with his mom to live this life
Gets hella annoyed when his goggles fog up because they do A LOT
Picks bugs up off the ground
He has HORRIBLE posture
AWKWARD LOSER
Of course we're all well aware of his regular get up but whenever he's chilling at the mansion he's always wearing some beat up band tee and some sweats or cargo shorts
I THINK THAT THAT'S IT FOR RN!! But I'm obsessed with him so I'm probably adding onto it and making a few changes here and there

One of the reasons I find Snape kind of unique as a character in the stories I've read in that his particular combination of traits is... rare. By this I mean in that A) he has virtues and skills that would normally appear in a main character, a hero, hell even a teen boy power-fantasy, completely larger than life demonstrations of competence and virtue, while at the same time B) having traits that would normally be given to petty villains in order to make them look lame/pathetic, in order for the audience to laugh at the loser. (petty villains are not the same as regular villains, it's the difference between Filch and Voldemort. Voldemort is infinitely more evil but is rarely someone you pity/think is a loser the way you do Filch).
For A) he is a genius immensely skilled at magic and is hyper competent, inventing spells and potions as a teenager, is self sacrificing and brave to ridiculous extremes, over and over again, more than any other character bar the protagonist himself, is a spy that constantly makes the main villain look like a fool, is so virtuous he risks himself to save people he hates because it's the right thing to do, has tons of sarcastic one liners and witty jokes, is intimidating and smooth and has presence, I could go on. All these are traits you give to the Harry Potters of the world.
For B) he's ugly in a very visceral way, he bullies children who did nothing to him and makes them cry, he's bullied and never truly gets his revenge, in fact the girl he's in love with gets together with his bully, he's constantly humiliated (i.e. the Neville boggart scene where he's made to dress in an old woman's clothes, Dumbledore telling him that he disgusts him, the SWM scene). All this is stuff you give to the Filch's of the world.
More interesting than gray morality of whatever the fuck, which I've seen before, Snape is unique to me in that he's as much of a classical hero, larger than life teenage hyper-competence power fantasy made to idealize and try (and inevitably fail) to live up to as he is a pathetic petty tyrant loser made for the audience to laugh at and feel sorry for while hating him at the same time. It's like if you fused Harry Potter's virtues with Argus Filchs flaws. And he never really stops being either of these things throughout the story, he is cool and pathetic always. It's what makes him so incongruous to me, and part of what makes him inspire such strong emotions. People, whether fans or people that hate him, don't really know on what traits to lean into more: Is he cool or pathetic? Lame or awesome? The reality is that he's both. At both extremes at the same time, writing Snape correctly requires toeing the line between power-fantasy and masochistic self-flagellation.

Usopp's constant negativity and anxiety are something useful and "positive" at the end of the day (eg: fight against Perona) because he doesn't necessarily need to change his views, he just needs to trust himself and his abilities more and he just uses what he has at the moment which is, you know, negativity. It is not something positive but it does keep him safe from danger and he will end up being proud of himself and stronger than he could ever imagine, but that doesn't mean he'll stop being negative. It's just another personality trait a lot of people have, and Usopp using it for his advantage is something great, I feel. He takes pride in being like that. He's loud and shameless about it.
Unlike Sanji, who dwells on his negativity on his own. Quietly. And lets it consume him without having any power over it. His self-sabotaging and self-sacrificing behavior often comes from a place of giving up out of fear of others getting hurt to save him because that's pretty much his core fear. Being a burden/Not being able to save the people he cares about from himself and his past. It's not something the manga shows that much in comparison to Usopp's negativity, but Sanji's pessimistic views are pretty much one of the reasons why WCI happens and why he puts himself in the worst situation in Wano.
And I think (this is why I'm writing all of this) that they're perfect for each other because Usopp could show him that being afraid and negative isn't something so bad. After all, at least Usopp is aware that if he can't do something, the crew will help him out no matter what. Usopp's negative, yes, but it's alright because he doesn't go through it on his own. Even if he does look shameless and "selfish" when desperately asking for help (he isn't, by the way. It's actually pretty reasonable to act like that). Sanji needs to learn to ask for help shamelessly too and he needs to stop putting all the weight of the world's negativity on his shoulders. They need to carry it together.
Like- There's just something so personal in Usopp going "Yes! I am scared. Frightened even. Please, help!" because he might not like that part of him and he's trying to be stronger and more independent every day, but he acknowledges that things can go south and his reaction is very fight or flight but pretty mostly flight to be safe. While Sanji's response is always to fight because he refuses to let others know he needs help in case something happens to them (and also because he feels ashamed of feeling weak). Usopp shares the responsibility and accepts that he's kind of a loser sometimes but Sanji refuses to do so.
This is just a thought about Sanji learning that being a coward and asking for help isn't bad because they're meant to do stuff like that, and Usopp growing to be stronger and independent but not necessarily stop being pessimistic because sometimes you just... Are like that. Sometimes you're scared. Sometimes you have anxiety. And that's alright. You can be strong anyway.

ik im late but im playing through kaveh's hangout event and. the haikaveh brainrot is real
since these losers can't do it themselves i am here to offer my translation services ‼️
Tumblr media
al haitham you liar. we are in a library using our indoor voices you did NOT hear us.
and even if you did mr. "i hate small talk" why'd u walk over hmm?? hmm??
"dont mind if i ignore you, i've got my earphones in" <- applies to everyone except kaveh
Tumblr media
"okay now that i've gotten him distracted tell me what's wrong so i can discreetly fix it"
mans literally sent kaveh away to boost his confidence a bit + find out if he was okay.
"you annoted those books with such long and beautiful notes that eveyone hated lolol anyways check out those shelfs where there's a book with someone appreciating ur notes"
i can't get over how many exceptions al haitham makes for kaveh. he's not heartless and cruel in the way i often see him portrayed... but at the same time his entire demeanor is "i respect you as a person but won't go out of my way to do things for you unless it benefits me"
like he's one of the only characters who isn't super super close with the traveler, at least that's how i see it in the voicelines! he respects them as a friend, would consider doing things for them if they asked, but that's about it really!
but KAVEH. for someone who enjoys a peaceful life and has such a rational and efficient way of working it theoretically makes no sense for him to do all the things he does for kaveh.
like sure "maybe the cheering up kaveh is just to avoid having to deal with him drunk later", but that's too roundabout of a demeanor to be al haitham's style. plus, if he really didn't want to deal with a drunk kaveh, he could just kick him out.
but he doesn't because he cares, and kaveh does not understand that because he has created a vision of what he thinks al haitham is in his head, and in that vision he, kaveh, has no value so why would haitham have him around?? clearly he's got ulterior motives.
and they won't move further until kaveh lets go of that vision, and he can only do that if he truly realises his own worth, and until then haitham's gonna have to keep pushing him towards that from the shadows.
Tumblr media
"he overworks himself, it's not healthy. he forgets the practicality of his ideals when he starts something, thinking he can pull through it, but reality hits him halfway. he can keep his ideals, that's fine, but i wish he was a bit more realistic about them."
Tumblr media
"and despite all of the above, despite wanting to uphold his artistic integrity, he still puts everyone's needs before his own."
Tumblr media
"his approach is too contradictory, and hence people don't see his talent. there are those who's resolve is so brash they are seen as confident and unshakable; and yet he who is more talented than them all falls behind because he's so easy to take advantage of."
al haitham taught me two new words today lol
irascible - someone with a quick temper
paragon - something viewed as a standard
Tumblr media
"if he wants things to change he needs to find a balance between compromise and resolve. there is no way to please everyone, but instead of accepting this, he thinks he can nullify it if he takes all the burden instead."
kaveh's altruism stems from his own self-hatred, moreso than his desire to help others. and while doing a good deed puts a smile on his face, the melancholy guilt that trips him when he doesn't is far greater.
Tumblr media
"if they are his ideals then i have no right to say anything about them. but he hurts himself so much as a result of that and i wish he would love himself a bit more."
al haitham has a great deal of respect for kaveh, not just as a scholar but as a person. and it's hard watching someone like that dig their own grave, and there's nothing you can do but wait in the sidelines, because they won't believe anything you say.
al haitham is constantly bickering with kaveh to get him to feel a little, challenge his ideals, find a way to make them work without sacrificing himself in return.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"at this poing talking to him is no use, he's convinced himself that his life only has purpose if it's in the hands of others. all people face hardships in life, but he seems to believe he deserves all he gets and more"
and then after kaveh is back he gives him space to talk about things that make him happy, and more importantly, appreciate himself.
how to tell kaveh i want to listen to his silly lil rants without sounding like a sap - al haitham's brain, probably
Tumblr media
al haitham knowing all of kaveh's little buttons, and pressing the right ones after determining his mood, so he can show kaveh he loves him but still sound like a bitch.
"you did so well. i am so proud, and i hope you are proud of yourself too."
and sometimes he does click the wrong one, but then immediately goes back on it, becomes soft(er than usual), offers reassurance, changes the topic, and so on
we saw this in the parade of providence event, when kaveh got legitimately upset at one of haitham's remarks and he immediately went into I HAVE UPSET MY BF recovery mode.
and what i love the most in all this is KAVEH'S DUMBASS IS SO OBLIVIOUS TO THIS LMAOOO
but also it's sad because the reason he's oblivious is because he doesn't think he's worth being cared for like that.
haikaveh's whole vibe is "i love you, but i'd much rather you love yourself first" and "i'm your one and only, your only exception, the one you'd break all your rules for" and i love it.

I’m sitting here thinking about why it may have been Sir Pentious got redeemed. Yes, he risked his life and got killed (?) protecting his friends. It’s possible either he went to Heaven when he double-died, or he got "redeemed" and as such wasn't even killed, but was rather just beamed up there before the blast hit.
Maybe redemption is just doing good enough to get thrown up there, maybe it's dying doing something good... or maybe it has to do with exactly what you do.
Pulling a Charlie here, "redemption" can mean "atoning for a fault or mistake." (Dictionary.com)
What exactly was Sir Pentious' mistake? We see in episode 2 that he uses his creations as a way to attack people for the sake of gaining power/attention. That's his main goal and his creations are the tools he uses to get it. And then we see it also act as protection for him, it's how he wants to defend himself against the other hotel residents. After episode 2 we don't really see him use his creations (beyond the ggs) again, with Vaggie cutting him off.
It's not until episode 7 that he starts building again, and it's not a weapon either. The first thing we see him build since coming to the hotel is defensive measures for the attack, working with Husk, Angel, and Niffty.
He also was previously willing to command others (his minions) in battle rather than fight himself. He says in episode 3 he doesn't know how to fight without his minions. Then in the battle in episode 8 he's still commanding others, but it's not only for his own gain. He could have left the hotel but he chose to stay and fight with the others.
Basically: in the past he used his creations and commanded others in an attempt to gain power. It's all fueled by pride, greed, (and envy?) But what does he do in episode 8? He throws himself into battle. He gets back in the blimp that he hadn't been show in since episode 2. He again charges at a being that is much more powerful than him, using weapons he built and commanding an egg army, but his reason for doing it changed.
He knows he may die. There isn't any greed in what he does, it's a sacrifice for the others. For the only friends he's gotten in Hell. If he was greedy he could have left when Vaggie told them they could in episode 7. It isn't a matter of pride or proving himself to someone else either- he does it because it's what he sees needs to be done.
He took the same actions that made him a "bad person" but the intent and meaning behind them is wholly different. He's doing it for the opposite reasons. Rather than using weapons as a way to protect himself and gain power, he's using them to protect his friends while sacrificing himself.
What if to break out of hell, you first need to break even? If they were sent to hell for specific reasons, maybe the answer isn't simply good acts or racking up "good points." But rather, to ascend you need to do acts that are the complete opposite of the actions that sent you down in the first place? To at least repay whatever "debt" landed you there in the first place, then maybe from there good points can be acquired to go to Heaven? What if that one bad thing you did acts as a block? And until it's removed it doesn't matter how many good things you do?
With the hotel the previous course of action was mostly banning things. Ban the weapons. Ban the eggs. Ban the bar. But the thing is some actions aren't inherently bad. We see with Carmilla that killing can be out of love and self defense. Things like BDSM can be intimate and relationship developing, or the idea can be horribly warped as a way to hurt others. Actions or tools aren't simply bad: but the intent and impact behind them can be, and that's what defines them.
Jumping to Loser, Baby really quick: the whole song is about owning who you are. In Husk and Angel's cases: the matter of redemption isn't simply to STOP gambling, drinking, sex, and drugs. But rather, doing it in a healthy way that doesn't harm others. Just cutting them off from their vices doesn't make them necessarily go away. Especially when they didn't have a choice in the matter. They need to change their own relationships with them and the way/reason they're used.
I just started think about this because what if someone else was in Sir Pentious' place? What if the only reason that the Sinner in the blimp made it to heaven is because it was SIR PENTIOUS? What if instead it was someone like Husk or Angel, who's "sins" aren't tied directly to creating/using weapons of mass destruction and commanding egg armies for the sake of power and self-defense.
