Those who know me and practice with me know that I have been a long time pusher of the practice of Bhramari, or Humming. The practice itself is super simple; find a comfortable seat with your spine lengthened so you can breathe deep, choose a pitch just slightly lower than your normal speaking voice for more resonance, and hum for at least 5 minutes. The benefits of Bhramari are numerous, it: lowers blood pressure and slows down our heart rate and rate of respiration, reduces the level of stress hormones, increases levels of endorphins, melatonin, and oxytocin, it increases lymphatic circulation (which supports our immune system), and increases the levels of oxygen in our blood cells. So this simple practice reduces stress, increases our ability to relax, helps our immune system do its job, enhances our sleep, and keeps our heart and mind healthy. The practice of Humming is like giving yourself a daily internal massage.
