Recently picked up an interest in quilting (which I have never done before). Trying to figure out how much fabric I'm gonna need, I can only conclude one thing: crafty old ladies must be bonkers good at algebra and geometry

Looking for stuff in the Bazaar nowadays is so funny to me. It used to be where I would buy reagents I need for the crafting quests, but now there's moments where somebody decided to buy the entire inventory of reagents minus five cattails and a single ruby. Why did I have to spend 30 minutes getting 30 mist wood

maybe it's the heat (so miserable...), but i'm already thinking about xmas specifically if i want to sell any holiday fandom merch stuff. probably GW related and most likely like these:
i'd make for sure our boiz, and maybe either/or relena and/or zechs though the main question would be what color combinations for their itty bitty snow hats~

please don't start complaining about your books not selling as well as your writing courses when you decide to have people pay you for writing courses because you need to recoup the money your books aren't making for you
ETA: by which i mean: when you're trying to make money as a writer OF BOOKS, you realize you're not making as much as you would if you sold HOW TO courses, so you start selling HOW TO courses while publishing books, and then wonder why your courses are outselling your books and become the thing you're known for
if you want to be known for writing books, focus on the books
talk about the books on your blog, newsletter, website, socials, EVERYWHERE
this is what attracts readers: hearing about what you love about the books, what the books are about, what makes them interesting
all you do when you write about writing is make yourself known to other writers, who are not the audience for your books
as a wiser person than I am once said: PLENTY of people want the tools to build something. not many people want the actual something you are building with those tools.

I have very little respect for women who enter this movement and immediately starts selling the movement back to us. This isn't a fandom, we don't need feminist "community" merch. That's just consumerism and undermines the actual significance of our movement as a social cause.
Also, it is usually ugly.

This is a piping hot take but being an artist/musician/writer/small business owner with no financial backup or alternative income source is a bad career plan, and willingly choosing to do that just to guilt trip people into commissioning you because rent is due or your cat is sick is a shitty move. (this is ofc not including cases where people can't do anything else)
And this is coming from someone who both offers artsy services, and commissions artists on a regular basis - art is wonderful and people should sell and buy it more! I'm not saying that people should just have boring full time office jobs and entirely give up on their dreams, just that "making it" in any artistic field is very unlikely, and it's not like this is a secret, or unexpected, so please plan your career with this information in mind.

I apologize that it’s on the bird site, but I made a thread on my experiences selling at craft fairs vs anime conventions that might be helpful/interesting to folks looking to switch over or wanting to add craft fairs to their lineup! Please feel free to ask me questions on Twitter, I’d love to cover more angles!
