🍓Teehee, I love royalty AUs. Unfortunately, I got a little out of hand on the “Drabble” part, so this is just an introduction to everyone in a soon-to-be-long fic I’ll be posting in the coming week. These are VERY brief, as the actual fic is about sixteen pages. I do hope it’s worth the wait! I hope you’ll understand! If you’d like, I can tag you in it!

Kingdom Lore

-Your Kingdom is part of a “United Front” with several other kingdoms across all of twisted wonderland.

-The castle is located in the Shaftlands, making it one of the most influential and bustling areas in the entire world.

-You and your people are focused on the creation of silks and fabrics and clothes — which you have quite a chokehold on the industry.

-You also have quite a large hunting industry, due to your location next to multiple large and vast forests.

-Your kingdom is the (newly) second strongest within the United front, thanks to the recent addition of of The Valley of Thorns

-It’s original rulers (your parents) died in a tragic accident, leaving only you and your brother behind to rule your kingdom.

-Magic is not common in the Shaftlands, usually only left for the great scholars to study and hone. 

-In fact, because of the way the late king and queen died, magic use is frowned upon.

-The kingdom has fairy tales of large inky monsters that live within the forest, but those are just fairy tales… right?

-You are the princess (by title, you use they/them pronouns) of the Shaftlands.

-While the people believe you rule side by side with your brother, you really are only there to sit still and look pretty.

-You ARE well educated and very smart. You understand deep political issues and have bold opinions which Vil (your brother) does take into account.

-You are better described as a socialite, collecting information about every single person you brush elbows with.

-This includes your citizens, whom you love and adore and they love and adore you.

-Since you have no political hold over people, you learn everything there is to learn about them and use that as leverage against them if you need — alternatively, with your citizens, you use it to try and help better their lives.

-You are good at being royalty, and are loyal to your kingdom and the crown, but you don’t like it.

-You value your freedom and ability to do as you like, but you are understanding as it becomes limited the older and older you get.

-You ARE a princess after all, you love the stories of a dashing rouge sweeping you off your feet.

-All of this being said, your absolute favorite thing in the world is hunting.

-Your mother was an esteemed hunter before she took on the crown, and therefore she taught you everything you know.

-You are no longer allowed to hunt, thanks to your brother being too worried something may happen to you, but you miss it.

-You DO have a good relationship with Vil, but it’s become more and more strained as years went on and he became more and more restrictive of what you can and can’t do.

-Epel is your best friend in the castle, and was your hunting partner until you were banned.

-He remains loyal to you over Vil, and will always have your back if you need it.

Vil

-Your older brother, and the Queen of the Shaftlands.

-Vil took on the crown at only fifteen, and he has ruled gracefully and powerfully ever since.

-He is, by far, the most influential ruler among the seven separate kingdoms.

-He is the main reason that the unification front has lasted so long and The Valley of Thorns joined later after.

-He singlehandedly led the kingdom into economic prosperity, and remains the reason as to its huge success.

-He banned the average man from hunting, instead requiring a hunting license so that they could limit the loss of human life in the forest.

-He, himself, finds hunting boorish and dangerous, which was his main reason for banning you from doing so.

-He adores you with his whole heart and soul, and every single thing he does is for the betterment of the kingdom and the safety of you.

-He’s got thousands of responsibilities which has limited the time he’s able to spend with you, but he does try to make time at least once a week to sit with you.

-He is one of the only people who knows exactly what happened to his parents, and he also requires a license to study and practice magic in the Shaftlands.

-He studies magic, specifically potion magic, but only so he can better understand the benefits and dangers of it. 

-He does not permit you to study magic, because he is afraid something could happen to you much like it did to your parents.

-He seemingly works very closely with Idia Shroud and his family, but no one knows why — especially since Idia and Vil don’t get along well publicly.

-In fact, Vil does not get along well with most of the soon-to-be rulers of the neighboring kingdoms.

Epel

-Epel and his family was plucked off the streets by Vil himself when both you and Epel were very young.

-His family was given a position as the castle’s own farmers, his grandmother being the head of production.

-Epel, however, was assigned as your personal playmate and eventually a member of the lower court.

-He is your best friend and in turn you are his.

-Both of you hate the castle lifestyle, and run around causing chaos and having fun with one another.

-Frequently, you both find yourself in trouble, but you are able to dismiss Epel’s punishment by taking full blame and arguing for his forgiveness.

-Epel is quiet and soft-spoken around Vil, but when the two of you are alone he is outspoken and loud.

-He drops his fake fancy accent and talks in his regular southern drawl which you adore so much.

-He isn’t too important to the story overall, but he is your rock to lean back on when things get rough.

-He knows you better than your own brother knows you, and for that you think he is like family.

-His main responsibility is to look pretty and mingle, just like you.

-He is also, technically, your first guard in case anything goes wrong.

-He is, magically, incredibly talented with a gift that is unmatched by most in his court.

-Vil sponsors his lessons and study, but his is not permitted to use magic outside of his lessons.

-Epel believes that Vil has a bigger plan with his magical experiments, but he’s not sure what.

-It is also worth note that he is not supposed to mention his magical lessons to you either.

Rook

-Rook is a mysterious man. He is not one of the many citizens of the Shaftlands that you know and love dearly, nor is he an elite from another kingdom.

-You know virtually nothing about this man, therefore you are drawn to him in a way that you’d never felt before.

-He shows up suddenly at your birthday party, uninvited and unknown, and disappears as quickly as he came.

-What you don’t know is that he is - in fact - a very important figure among the only kingdom not within your unified front.

-Now, I don’t want to spoil anything for the story, but the two of you end up tangled in a sort of cat and mouse game that only one of you is aware that its happening.

-Now, general head cannons on him.

-Rook is a very well read, well spoken, well educated young man. 

-He is not from the Shaftlands, but he knows the ins and outs of every single system both inside and outside of the castle.

-To be truthful, he is aware of the inner workings of every single kingdom in the unified front. 

-He is also magically talented, and his favorite form to use would be his enchanted bow which he can use to apply any spell to his arrows as he draws them.

-Unlike you, who is extremely sheltered from the world, he knows perhaps TOO much.

-He is equally as captivated by you as you are with him, which leads him to make a… very interesting decision.

-He is, technically, a guard for hire. A very good one, at that. None of his clients have ever faced any harm with him around.

-Vil, being protective as he is, hires Rook to be your guard after a set of circumstances happen, and suddenly this mysterious man who you thought you’d never see again is a part of your everyday life.

i don't really have a top five moments from either show, unfortunately :( both are equally amazing to me and there's just too many scenes to pick from, i'd be writing an essay 😭 if i had to choose from one thou, from fairy tail is when natsu sees erza crying and absolutely loses it and jjk is actually in the intro of the first season, where itadori is recording everyone it's just so sweet :( the calm before the storm

It's been awhile since I've done an ask in tumbler but it's time for me to slowly get out from my shy box. Anyways, these are questions for Aster:

1. How easy is it to earn his trust?

2. How easy is it to earn his mistrust?

3. Would he prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth?

4. What memory does he revisit often?

5. How easy is it for him to ignore flaws in other people?

6. How sensitive is he to his own flaws?

7. How hard is it for him to shake a sense of guilt?

I hope these aren't too much to ask, i'm really really curious about Aster as a character 😅

1. That’s a tricky question because it really depends on the person he’s interacting with, since he can see people’s star’s, that is, their deepest desires and essentially their soul. So for example, he took one look at Magnifico’s star, that was actually a black hole, and now he doesn’t trust Magnifico’s at all, sure he might get tricked by the guy but he would never trust him. However, even people with good in their heart can do bad things, but Aster kinda blindly trusts people that have bright stars. So I’d say: if you’re anyone other than King Magnifico and Queen Amable, then yes it’s very easy to earn his trust.

2. Okay, let’s say you’re someone with a good heart and you did something bad to Aster… They’ll most likely still trust you later if you apologize. Aster sees the best in people and believes everyone can do better, so I’d say you’d have to screw up REEEEEAALLY badly to earn his mistrust, it’s very difficult.

3. Hmm that’s interesting 🤔 I’d say he’d prefer an unpleasant truth, although he omitted the truth about him knowing Asha her whole life for most of the story, Aster hates lies, that’s actually something I was gonna implement in the story as “A star thing” like, Aster would mention all stars hate lying, as a reference to how the Blue Fairy made Pinocchio’s nose grow every time he lied. And that’s also why he hates the king and queen so much, they always lie. Also, no matter how unpleasant a truth may be, he’d probably find the bright side in it.

4. His memories are mostly from watching people bellow, and mostly watching Asha. I’d say his favorite memory is seeing Asha reading story books with her grandfather, she did it often, but he loved listening to the fairytales.

5. Really easy.

6. I’d say he’s sensitive about them, but not too much, as in, they manage to work through them, but when the insecurities hit they REALLY HIT.

7. Aster hasn’t shown it that much but he still feels guilty about how that plan he had about singing at the plaza (chapter 9, which btw you guys should revisit, I updated the song they play, now there’s ACTUALLY a song and not just me describing it) so yeah he feels guilty that the plan kinda backfired, and he also feels guilty for not realizing Asha got captured right behind his back, those guilts are still in him, but he doesn’t let it show since he internalizes it all a lot, I was gonna make him show that guilt more in chapter 12 but then I realized that was too much of a downer and would make it feel like Aster was making himself more of the victim than Asha, when they both equally went through a lot. So I decided to keep those feelings of guilt more subtle and implicit.

Duckvember - Inner and Childhood Duck (Ducks) - Tribute to Fairy Tales - Duckverse in Fairy Tales

I drew this in honor of one of my favorite fairy tales I listened to in my early childhood, and also in honor of one of the best animated movies I've ever seen. Dedicated to both American and Soviet animation.

One drawing represents Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Snow Queen" (from 1844), which received an animated adaptation in the Soviet Union (then Russia) on November 1, 1957 as "The Snow Queen" (Снежная королева). Donald and his sister Della play Kai and Gerda (as kids), while Magica de Spell plays the Snow Queen, so I drew her more like an ice queen than she really is Magica. And Donald would be a good role for Kai considering his behavior. I recommend reading that fairy tale as well as watching that movie.

The second drawing represents the Grimm brothers' fairy tale "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (from 1812), which received an animated adaptation by Walt Disney and his animators in 1937. Although it's the first feature length animated film, it's still for me one of the best animated films I've seen that really represents a revolution in animation. What I've drawn is more of a Disney version than an actual version of the fairy tale, but the roles I've assigned go with it. Donald is Prince Charming, Daisy Duck is Snow White, Magica de Spell is the Evil Queen (Queen Grimhilde), while Donald's nephews and Daisy's nieces and Gyro's nephew Newton are dwarfs. Huey is Grumpy, April is Bashful, Dewey is Doc, May is Sleepy, Louie is Happy, Newton is Sneezy and June is Dopey. And then there's Ratface, who is Magic's pet, since the Evil Queen also has a crow as her pet. And yes, the love couple between Donald and Daisy as well as between Snow White and the Prince have a lot of similarities. :D And yes, I don't like that they are doing a live-action of Snow White, the animated version will remain the best.

Finished Spinning Silver! What a satisfying ending, the last few pages had me grinning. I think this may be my favorite book of 2024

- I was wrong, Rebekah was not the kid to show the cost of bargains, it was Mirnatius! So clever, to show what happens to the child bargained away to a demon before birth (but one whose mother never found a way out of it)

-I honestly wouldn't call this a Rumpelstiltskin retelling so much as one inspired by it (and honestly loved it even more for not being a direct adaption)

- poor guard that had a crush on Irina (was starting to wonder if I should start shipping them cause I just wanted Irina to be personally happy in her marriage somehow and then he's no longer even an option). But that brings me to...

-omg the last scene where Irina claims everyone in Lithvas and then Mirnatius himself. So clever demon rules lawyering and so satisfying after the repeated "only me and mine" phrase.

-my real only nitpick of the book was I feel like we were missing a final pov section with either Irina or Mirnatius. Don't get me wrong, the final sentence of their section was perfect (especially since my fave part of the book was Mirnatius desperately drawing her and thrusting pages into people's faces shouting "Why do you think she's beautiful?!?!?). Buuuut I wish we could have had a little epilogue with the two of them, just to see how they were doing both politically and marriage-wise. We got to kinda see Miryem and the Staryk King get to know each other without the tension, and a glimpse into what their lives will be like, so their marriage and relationship felt like it made sense (which was needed cause Miryem was legitimately trying to kill him not that many pages ago). I'm a romantic, so I believe that Irina and Mirnatius had their own happily ever after (and I caught that Irina sent a mirror to Miryem as a wedding gift, visits in the future?) but I wish we could've seen it to KNOW they worked out

- of the two, I preferred Spinning Silver more than Uprooted. It just hit so many of the right notes for me personally. I would have to say Miryem was my favorite character, there was never a time I wasn't straight up rooting for her (even when she made decisions that could've turned out so bad I still understood why they were made and it made sense). However Irina had my favorite storyline, I love books of overlooked girl becomes queen and shows everyone she is good at this, especially if perfectly arranged marriage also factors in (plus her plot line with the three silver pieces of jewelry and jumping through mirrors and even how she talked to the demon felt so fairy tale esque) Even Miryem who literally became a fairy/elven queen brought a level of practicality to her situation (which was one of the reasons I loved her), but Irina's felt like it could literally have started like a winter fairy tail (Once Upon A Time a girl had a drop of fairy blood and three magic items, and she was married to a demon that she outwitted, and won her husband and kingdom's safety in the end)

-and all the other characters and their warm and safe and happy endings made me feel so cozy. And also nice to read a fantasy book with two alive loving parents (and even grandparents!)

Two Caryl fics by Rambling Rose are so good. Broken Mirrors in au non za. It is very long and very good. A version of Sophia is in it. They meet through Sophia… All the King’s Horses is also a AU non za. Both Daryl and Carol meet as single parents. Both have been hurt and they meet. They are on Ninelives, AO3 and FanFiction, I think.

All the King's Horses is one of my favorite fics and I'm currently reading Broken Mirrors for the first time! 🥰 All the King's Horses is posted on it's entirety on 9Lives Caryl Archive, but also on Ao3 and FF.net. It's one of my favorite fics, with one of the most beautiful portrays of Daddy Daryl I ever read. His bond with Russ it's so endearing! The way caryl connect and form a big family together is very heart-warming.

Summary: All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put their hearts back together again...Caryl AU. He's a single father with just one concern and a past he'd rather leave behind him. She's a single mother just looking for a new start and an escape from her own past. Everyone knows life is not a fairy tale. I don't know how exactly I'll feel when I get to the finish line (I'm still on chapter 85) but I'm sure I'll miss them like real friends. Summary: AU Caryl fic. When broken people encounter each other, is it possible for them to glue the pieces back together? This is very AU. Carol, Daryl, and Sophia are all broken people who live in very different worlds, but when those worlds unexpectedly collide, can they find healing in themselves through healing each other? Some musings abt the soon to be Precure season

So i took a look at the new website and bruhhh

they're so tacky looking and cute I love them! I'd actually gotten spoiled for Cure Wonderful and Cure Nyami's designs thanks to fanart on pixiv, and at the time I thought the season was going to have an Alice and Wonderland motif thanks to Wonderful's crown [thought she was gonna be like the queen of hearts but nope]. After checking out the website and trailer tho, it seems like the theme is more of a zoo and or animal companion theme. When I first realized that I thought to myself "wait haven't we been here before?" but thinking about it further Healing Good's theme was more along the lines of veterinarians and the earth[?] and Kira Kira Precure's was moreso just animals as window dressing/attack inspo with sweets being the main theme so I suppose we're not technically retreading old ground here. Speaking of not retreading old ground- HOLY SHIT THE MAIN CURE IS A DOG??

Just like...a full on dog dog bruh, like dang man I never thought i'd see the day where we'd essentially get a fairy leading the team. It seems like the team's split into both humans and animals, with Cure Nyami definitely being that white cat

This is exciting! I love that Precure's held onto having fairies transform into humans, it's so heckin fun! Back to the designs- In order of my favorite to least favorite it's Cure Nyami [look at that hair bruh! she is beauty, she is grace]

Cure Friend [the poncho and hair are my fav]

Cure Wonderful [she looks like such a peppy kid awwww]

and lastly Cure Lillian [her arm thingies remind me of Futari Wa and I adore that ribbon]

Honestly, I think this may be the first time since Kira Kira Precure that I've been immediately on board with the designs. I ended up loving Hirogaru's over time but at first glance, I couldn't get over how weird they looked [never fully ended up liking Cure Wing's design but still love the character]. The only thing I dislike about them is Lillian's headband, and the big heart on Friend's shoes. I'm sort of a big sucker for poofy/frilly skirts, long straight hair, and ponchos so I feel well-fed. I'm especially looking forward to seeing them all in motion, especially Lillian since based on her turnaround she seems to have a bit of sass to her. Based on Nyami's turnarounds/previews she seems to be more of a kuudere[?] type which isn't something we've gotten for a main cure in a while. There's also all of these guys just hangin' out on the site too

Can't wait to see what these lil guys can do, hoping that they'll be connected to powerups and maybe even special outfits/attacks [really enjoyed it when Happiness Charge did that]. But maaaan this is so cool. It seems like ever since Hirogaru decided to play around with Precure conventions they're going all out with unique approaches to the formula. One thing I hope they continue doing this season tho, is keeping the fighting style as a literal fighting style like super sentai where they actually throw punches. I love Kira Kira, but there's only so many times [like 2] that I can watch someone fight by pointing a wand at something before I start skipping the battles. Really loved how Hirogaru frequently would have the characters strategize in battle, it really kept me engaged even if I always know how it'll end. All-in-all, it's sad to see Hirogaru go, but I'm excited with what new stories await in the new season! ^^

rating and reviewing a selection of live action Cinderella films: part 1

1st place is Ever After (1998) with Drew Barrymore

ok so this movie is 10/10 across all categories.

not only does it have some of The Best historical costumes I've seen in a film, but all the characters are wonderfully developed.

the staff aren't totally dismissed, and they love Danielle. also key supporting characters and without them Danielle would not have gotten to know the prince.

Henry the prince himself is kind of a dickhead, but hey at least he's got a personality! and he Does get better eventually. Henry actually has a very nice arc and gets humbled multiple times. Danielle inspires him to open a university. He also has solid dynamics with each of his parents, the king and queen, which aids the believability of the story as a whole. like the royal family actually have substance to them.

and i like how there's no love at first sight!! of course, Danielle and Henry do fall in love over a short period of time, but it's earned.

also the Utopia quotes when Danielle is saving Maurice!!!!!!! yeah girl give us socialism!!! i love how ready she was to address classicism. like she was Not expecting to see the prince let alone lecture him on social systems and his own arrogance.

the stepmother is so wonderfully cruel! Angelica Houston plays Rodmilla so coldly, with conniving schemes and haughty style. she's still horribly abusive and manipulative and definitely deserved the ending she got, but i do love how she is portrayed in this film. there's one scene of vulnerability where Danielle asks if she ever loved her father, and Rodmilla replies that she barely knew him. Danielle's father, Gustave, was the second husband that Rodmilla had to marry to survive. Although she is the villain, at the core of her character is her dedication to the security of her daughters and herself. In Ever After, the stepmother is given a complexity that so many other retellings lack. It makes for a more compelling character for the audience to be invested in.

Marguerite and Jacqueline are, in my opinion, the most dynamic stepsisters in any Cinderella retelling. Marguerite is just as corrupt as her mother is, but with less control over her temper, but she's also just as cunning. She's quite intelligent, albeit spoiled to the core. Jacqueline is seen as the lesser of the two by Rodmilla, which is why she becomes so sympathetic for Danielle and how she's treated. i love how her character gets to learn what is important to her. she does get a man, only after she's established her own standing, and they are quite happy together.

a super cool costuming detail is the difference in sleeves between Danielle's mother's dresses and the ones that the step sisters wear. tighter fitting sleeves vs the big and poofy tell how much time has passed between trends, which i think is a nice touch. also the movie is supposed to be set in the earlyish 16th century. they do a really good job of keeping it accurate, although there is some 15th century inspiration sprinkled in.

i LOVE how Leonardo da Vinci acts as the fairy godmother. he's just this eccentric old man that goes around imparting knowledge and fiddling with inventions. and he's just as much a mentor for Henry as he is a godmother to Danielle. he helps Henry see past his stupid arrogance and teaches him the beauty of love and life. and yes, he Does get Danielle to the ball, and convinces her to tell Henry the truth of her identity.

one of my favorite quotes is when Danielle says, "a bird may love a fish, signore. but where will they live?" and Leonardo replies: "then i shall have to make you wings"

AND MAKE HER WINGS, HE FUCKING DOES

they're STUNNING and i LOVE THIS DRESS SO MUCH. this is at the masque ball. she has glitter on her face but no mask, because she's there to reveal the truth. i do not Care if the glitter might be historically inaccurate because it's Gorgeous and i will Not be accepting complaints. also I'm pretty sure the wings are made of a type of organza? i found an article a while ago that talked about it but it has since been lost :(

plot wise, everything goes to shit at the masque. and then Danielle gets sold to this creep who was in one (1) earlier scene, but she rescues herself as soon as the prince gets there. Henry proposes, Rodmilla and Marguerite get shipped to the americas, and Leonardo gives Danielle a portrait of herself as a wedding present.

I absolutely adore all of the cookiewars stuff your making oh my goodness! I rarely see stuff for jellywalkers so this is such a pleasant surprise! but are certain jellywalkers who were originally more showy/prideful/etc before infection(fire spirit or cinnamon for example) more likely to try and “show off” to Y/N compared to others? Whether it be by trying to prove that they’re the best at defending them, providing more “gifts”, or attempting to poorly mimic previous uninfected behavior etc?

Yep, parts of their personalities can still show even after infection. And they’re giving their all to be your favorite!

Jellywalker Fire Spirit Cookie will usually be the first to hog the role of Jellywalker Y/N’s protector in the event of a attack, much to the jealousy of the other infected legendaries. Whoops, looks like Jellywalker Sea Fairy Cookie missed a few survivors, worry not, Fire Spirit can quickly burn them down! He’ll even just light things up right away before anyone else can attack! You’re better off just having him as your guardian, just ignore the angered protesting of the others! Only he can get the job done effectively!

Jellywalker Cinnamon Cookie can still dazzle after jellification. He’s been unofficially dubbed the jester of the horde, always quick to get Jellywalker Y/N Cookie’s attention with another one of his tricks, or at least try to. His most common trick is pulling a jellywalker biscuit bunny out of his hat and even then it only sometimes works, but hey, he’ll take what he can get. Certainly better then what the others are doing at least!

Jellywalker Skating Queen Cookie still has it! Sorta. She may no longer preform the more complicated dances after infection, but she still takes pride in the skating dances she makes for Y/N Cookie. When she dances, she wants your eyes on her, and only on her. She takes pride in dazzling the horde’s heart with her skating, much to the envy of the others.

When it comes to giving you gifts, it seems Jellywalker Cotton Candy Cookie always seems to have a keen eye for them. Her love for you was never muddied by the infection, if anything, it just showed how strong it is if she still has this warm feeling towards you as a jellywalker. The horde overall brings you gifts such as jellies to eat or some sort of trinket they thought looked nice. Cotton Candy is no stranger to that, she gives you numerous love letters, covered in jelly and the writing a bit messy, but it’s the thought that counts! When it’s not letters, she gifts you more interesting things like this box of half eaten chocolates or a bundle of jelly covered flowers. Her level of gifts makes members of the horde envious though, and then it’s suddenly a competition of who can scavenge you the best gift!

What eah books do you recommend? I've seen there's a lot of them but I'm unsure where to start reading! I've only seen the show

Can do! There are, as far as I'm aware, three lines of eah books you can read from! And I am going to give a short introduction to each one.

We have the main line books by Shannon Hale, the School Stories by Suzanne Selfor and the Once Upon A Twist series by Lisa Shae and Perdita Finn

The main line starts with "Once Upon a Time", a collection of stories of different people from Ever After on what they did the day before Legacy Year began (if I remember that right). You don't HAVE to read this one beforehand to understand the rest of the books, but it's still fun. It's not the real first book of the series, it's more of a sort of bonus book, but good if you want to break into the books and start getting a feel for them before diving into the actual story!

Then comes "The Storybook of Legends", the official first book in the series. It establishes a lot about how the book versions of the characters tick and sets up a lot of important stuff you need to know going forward. And it is GREAT. Shannon Hale absolutely knows how to write these characters, especially Apple and Maddie. They are so fantastic here. The next is "The Unfairest Of Them All" and after that "A Wonderlandiful World", both of which up the stakes from the last book by a lot and are just a delight to read! They're both more focused on our resident Hatter, Maddie, and I don't even want to spoil too much because it's just so good. I'd say A Wonderlandiful World and The Unfairest Of Them All are by far the best books, from the story to the writing they're just great.

But just because they're the best doesn't mean they're my favorite, that honor goes to the sort of fourth book, "Ever After High meets Monster High: The Legend of Shadow High", in which Raven, Apple and Maddie team up with Frankie and Draculaura to stop the Evil Queen from literally destroying the world. Brooke narrates this one, and she's great at it! This book is one of the main reasons I fell in love with her character!

The School Stories are more compact, but definitely worth a read if you want to know more about the characters that may have appeared just briefly in the mainline books, if at all. There's no real order you have to read them in so you can start whereever! They're more slice of life type stories, with much lower stakes than the main line, but still cozy and fun. My favorite here is "A Fairy Tail Ending" and "Kiss and Spell", but I heard "Next Top Villain" is among most people's favorites!

Then last but not least we have Once Upon A Twist, in which the students of Ever After High have to take their midterm hexams. Which means they have to go into their stories and live it by the book. Only, Faybelle allowed herself a prank and switched all the hexams! Now everyone is in the wrong story and the wrong role. Cupid, Maddie and Hopper are in Cinderella, Cerise and Dex are in Beauty and the Beast, and so on. Unfortunately, two of these books were never released due to the lawsuit I'm guessing, so sadly "The Kitty Mermaid" and "Duchess Lets Down Her Hair" will never see the light of day. My favorite here is "When The Clock Strikes Cupid" by a long shot. It's also the first in this series! Cupid is stuck in Cinderella's shoes, but instead of moping about her situation she sees it as a fun vacation from making people fall in love! She is also trying to reform her evil stepfamily with love and pancakes! And with her Fairy Godmaddie what can go wrong?

This was way harder than I imagined (and I still messed up because I have 2 books by the same author oops). I was surprised by how many of the books I chose to keep are non-fiction. I also may have messed up with the rules with some of my collection books but oh well.

From the bottom up:

The Lost Words by Robert MacFarlane & Jackie Morris - just a beautiful book that reminds us how important words are.

The Uncle Wiggly Book by Howard R. Garis. One of the first books I read as a child, and this is the copy I've had since childhood. It's also the book that started my book collecting hobby.

The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde - such a sweet, fun story and this one has great illustrations. (this is the book I'd switch out for something else since I messed up with the rules)

Hold Still by various. This was a project started by The Duchess of Cambridge during The COVID Pandemic. She and the National Portrait Gallery collected thousands of photos and went through and chose the top 100 to put into book form. It's a story of life during a modern pandemic. It's incredibly moving.

Collective Wisdom: Lessons, Inspiration, and Advice From Women Over 50 by Grace Bonney. A Christmas gift from one of my kids in 2021. It's a beautiful collection from women, most of whom are average, every day women, very few celebrities or well knowns are in this book. And the diversity is great too (Native, WOC, Disabled, Trans etc.).

The Complete Language of Flowers by S. Theresa Dietz the classic book of flowers and their meanings with beautiful drawings.

Women in Science by Rachel Ignotofsky. 50 Inspiring and notable women in Science. Fun, cartoonish illustrations as well.

American Prince by Tony Curtis. Because he's so pretty, and his whole face lit up when I told him what I thought of his book when he signed it for me.

The Snow Queen and Other Winter Tales by various. Collection of tales from various Fairy Tale books and authors. I have a few of these but this one I think is my favorite.

The Works of H.G. Wells by H.G. Wells. A collection of stories by Wells. The Time Machine was the first Science Fiction book I'd read. I read it as a teen and I loved it.

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (and this would be the one Wilde book I'd keep since I'm only allowed to have one book by the same author). This is my all time favorite book.

The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen. I have loved and own every book Allen has written, but I think this is my favorite.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I have a few copies of this book, it's a favorite. I chose this version because it's just very pretty.

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. Because Mother Nature DGAF. Also as I was being admitted to the hospital for my hysterectomy the admitting nurse who was doing all my vitals, giving me my IV etc. was reading this book and we discussed it. We both agreed that this book confirmed for us that we never want to climb Mount Everest.

Timeless by Gail Carriger. The final book in the Soulless series. I loved this whole series. I chose the last book, however, because it's one of the few series that I absolutely loved everything about how it ended.

The Radium Girls by Kate Moore. The incredibly infuriating story of the women who risked their lives in watch factories and how little help they got. This book made me a better feminist and grew my understanding of the importance of women's rights and how important our history is.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I think this was the first Gaiman book I read and it's my favorite.

Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. A series I read one summer in my youth. I chose this one because of its iconic cover, and because it's the first in the series.

The Aviary by Kathleen O'Dell. One of my kids read this when they were younger and suggested it to me. It's one of my all time favorite middle grade reads. It's magical.

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. My 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Bauer (my favorite teacher ever) read this out loud to us in class. I fell in love with the story. I never read it again until I was a married adult with children. It's the first book I ever re-read as an adult (Uncle Wiggly is the first book I ever re-read). And I re-read TLtWatW at least every couple of years. I tag anyone who wants to do this!!

Actually, no one has asked me this before. My blog really hasn’t been popular (receiving a lot of notes) until I began posting about Buddy Daddies and Wayne Family Adventures recently. I would be happy to give you my list. I am new to anime/manga, so I may misspell some of the Japanese names or put them in the wrong order. I apologize in advance. My list changes based on my mood and current stage in life. These are my top 10 right now.

1. Yor Forger (Spy x Family) - As an asexual person, I relate to Yor being judged by her coworkers for still being single at 27. I’m 26, so that part punched me in the gut when I first watched the anime. Also, Yor is a total badass as an assassin, is a lightweight when drinking (like me), and is the kindest person you’d ever meet. She’s an all-around great character.

2. Yelena Belova (MCU) - I am specifically talking about the MCU version of Yelena. She is also a badass, has a strong relationship with her sister, and is funny. I can’t wait to see her in Thunderbolts next year and hope the MCU makes her canonically asexual. We need the rep.

3. Tori Spring (Solitaire/Heartstopper) - Tori is canonically asexual and is so relatable in Solitaire. I’ve been through a time where I felt depressed, and Tori spoke my thoughts of being tired of everyone and everything and not understanding people being in relationships. I know that says a lot about my mental health, but yeah.

4. Hatsuharu Sohma (Fruits Basket) - Haru is the best character from Fruits Basket. He is loving, protective, and hilarious. I love how he is always looking out for his cousins, and I would love to have someone like him in my life.

5. Seishuu Handa (Barakamon) - I live in the country and greatly enjoy how Handa navigates country life and developing a deeply-rooted community in the village without developing a romantic relationship. I also love how he immediately accepted his role as big brother to Naru and Hina.

6. Kazuki Kurusu (Buddy Daddies) - This man has a huge heart and deserves the world. He loves his found family and is also the responsible one cooking and cleaning for them. Also relatable.

7. Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice) - I love me some Jane Austen, and Elizabeth is the best heroine from her books. The 2005 movie is my comfort movie.

8. Jude Duarte (The Folk of the Air series) - Badass human making her way to the top in the land of fairies. We stan the queen. I also relate to her by being an identical twin too.

9. Hestia (Greek Mythology) - I hope myths count. Hestia is the kindest goddess to everyone, even humans. Her presence is so refreshing in myths after reading about what the other gods and heroes have done…

10. Hitohito Tadano (Komi Can’t Communicate) - I’m watching this anime now and love how sweet Tadano is. He is so attentive, not only to Komi, but to all of his classmates. I love that.

Katya is the whole embodiment of shyness and delicacy. She is mostly seen with Mick and she is deeply in love with him, but still ... She is a princess who takes her time and who respects the good manners. No one wants to rush their true lovestory, so does Katya.

AMARYLLIS — PRIDE

"Even in a so-called fairy world, it is not always easy, and pink, and beautiful. No sometimes, fairies can be proud and ultimately they can feel superior to the other ones. Well. It is not their fault: they do are superior on some aspects. But not all."

Haibara is one of my queens. Really. Why queen? Because she sure acts as she is one. She is supposed to be "perfect" and thus seeks only for such perfection. Sometimes being alone with such expectations can also be a burden. Fortunately, she got Aaron for that!

ANEMONE — REJECTION

"Lonelyness and isolation are lethal for a fairy. As it has been said, sometimes fairies are crual against one another, especially when it comes to differencies. Can you imagine who cannot fly? What a shame! They can never be a real fairy!"

Andy is my soft cinnamon roll. He is absolutely one of my favorite character. Most of the time, I tend to give him a shy spot and a nervous personnality, but in reality, he is a little sunshine. He loves jumping around and spending time with his boyfriend, Etoile! But, he also suffered from rejection from his mother, even though he never really hold a grudge against her for that.

CYCLAMEN — JEALOUSY

"Waiting and longing for someone is an awful feeling. Especially when the fairy is known for fooling around, or ... not being so serious about the others, or ... being too perfect. Affection turns into paranoia, love turns into hatred ... Jealousy is now blooming in the heart of a small fairy."

I'm feeling so sorry for Eleonor: each time she is in a challenge, she always represents jealousy because of her boyfriend, Raymond, but she is more than just a jealous girlfriend! She is smart, talktative, attractive ... She actually knows how to fool someone, and she loves listening to the lovestory of the people around her. Really not a bad girl.

POPPY — FRAGILITY

"A fairy is a being which is small and fragil. You have to be very careful with them. Their wings are thin, but powerful. Sometimes, human confuse them with butterfly. And juste like butterfly, their wings tend to be easy to break."

Louise is a little cutie. She is calm but shy. Though, I really love to draw her, even if it's not really often. From time to time, it feels right to give her some attention!

Favourite time of the year: Spring to early summer. I love seeing the flowers bloom, but the heat waves of summer are murder.

Comfort foods: Fried chicken in various forms. Also smooth peanut butter!

Do you collect anything?: Not really, tbqh.

Favorite drink?: Water. It used to be hot chocolate and apple juice, but then I got my diabetes diagnosis and I can’t drink those anymore.

Favorite music artists: I’m fond of Icon for Hire, honestly! And Lindsey Stirling. I’m more fond of Halsey’s older music but she’s still great.

Current favorite songs: Oh God there’s so many. “Bailamos” by Enrique Iglesias has become a hit to me again, and also I’ve been listening to “Love Goes On and On” by Lindsey Stirling. “The Resistance” by Skillet and “Someone to You” by BANNERS are more “current blorbo” songs than favorite songs but I’ve also listened to them so many times recently. Home Free’s “Sea Shanty Medley” falls under that category as well!

Favorite fics: Okay so “Now Blooms The Tudor Rose” on althistory may not technically be fic but I regularly reread it so I say it counts.
