Smooth Patch 2025

So is like Smooth Patch just not working anymore? I frequently uninstall and reinstall and it’s as if I never put it in my game. It would be nice if it worked because I’ve been using CAS and Build/Buy Mode more often nowadays. I’ve also gotten the latest TS3 update and I’ve honestly been having this issue long before then. It used to work fine. Anyone else?

Okay. So here's my current situation: I'm trying to get The Sims 3 to run on my Linux machine. The Sims 3 has a "Gold" rating on the Wine AppDb, so it should run fine. I can't even get in game to test anything because of this:

The game's brightness, by default, is extremely low. As a result, it's supposed to hijack your screen controls and make the brightness like 200% or something. I've seen this behavior on macOS. However, for some reason, on Linux it isn't doing that, and the window stays dark. The solution is to run it in windowed mode, which does fix it, but... then it's in windowed mode (ew). So I saw on Reddit that Lazy Duchess's Smooth Patch came force the game into a borderless window mode. Great! That'll fix all my problems. However.

In order to make the Smooth Patch run, you have to launch the game from TheSims3Launcher.exe

Problem: I don't have a disc drive on this computer. I backed up all my TS3 DVDs onto a 128 GB flash drive, and I installed the game from there. My usual method of playing is to bypass the launcher entirely and launch the game directly using the TS3.exe file. However, doing so will cause the Smooth Patch not to launch. If I do try to open the launcher, of course, I can't launch the game because I don't have the disc inserted.

So, like, wtf do I do? I can't use LD's Custom Launcher because it's for 1.69 only, and the disc version is 1.67. So, like, is there any way to launch the game from the launcher without a DVD? Like, are there cracked launchers or some way of bypassing the disc requirement. Idk.

I can use a USB disc drive, but digging that thing out every single time I want to launch the game is gonna be tedious. I'd be nice to just be able to launch it normally. So any tips would be appreciated.

I could also, in theory, try compressing my TS3 Base Game folder into a .iso file and seeing if that'll trick the game. Idk, though, because idk what the launcher is looking for when it's verifying the disc.

Do any of my Tumblr friends use the Smooth Patch by LazyDuchess? I need some help: which of the two files do I need to download? I always start my game via the EA app. The second one? AND: When I still had Origin, I often had the problem that shortly after pressing the start button, the game didn't even start up, but crashed immediately.(I have used this patch before, but it was a while ago) I want to do everything right this time with the installation etc. Maybe someone can give me some good instructions.🙄

Have you gotten the chance to play with For Rent? If so, how do you like it?

For Rent was by far my favourite expansion pack ever. like a dream expansion for me. i spent a full night last week playing with it, making stuff, working on my save for the first time in ages, planning a *second* new-york inspired save...

and then i went and saved my lot as a residential rental, and all of my meticulously TOOL'ed neighborhood decorations decided to delete themselves (photo taken prior to catastrophe)

so now i have a vendetta against For Rent and i am in a state of semi-permanent shock. still partially in denial that it happened

I've now inserted everything correctly into the bin folder (that's all right, isn't it?) and the id file is also in my mods folder.

I've also installed the modified launcher. Now comes the big BUT: normally the game is supposed to start faster with this patch. But I have the problem that after pressing the start button it takes over 3 minutes for the game to start. So everything takes a lot longer. Not just when starting the game, but also in CAS.

It doesn't matter whether the clothes/accessories are set in a compact form or not, it takes ages until everything has finished loading. It's nerve-racking, really. In the time it takes for everything to load, you could go shopping or spend a day at the zoo (to put it exaggeratedly). Everything takes a lot longer WITH the patch installed than without. I don't understand it…

I've already increased the TPS in the text file, but nothing at all happens. . when I started the game via Origin back then, the effects of the patch were already noticeable in the game, faster loading etc., I can still remember that. But the game often crashed when it started because of the patch. For whatever reason. After that, I stopped working with the thing and now I would like to do it again. But as I said, everything is just worse instead of better. So I'll probably carry on without it…. I'm not that stupid and I know that I actually did everything right. (or?)

I also watched videos on YouTube to check whether there might be an error after all… But no. (Correct me if I'm wrong) Conclusion: I have no idea why it doesn't work for me as it should… I have a very good gaming PC and my RAM memory was expanded again two days ago, from 16 to 32. But the problem with the patch has nothing to do with that, because the patch problem was there before the RAM was expanded. So, I think I've ranted enough now😅. I hope you have a nice day🥰

do you recommend playing the sims 3?? I’ve never played it but I’m so tired of the sims 4 😭

you should try it out! ts3 is what made me get into sims. it definitely has it's flaws (ugly ass sims if you don't have cc/lag/etc) but it's really fun.

i would watch some youtube videos or use this guide to set everything up cuz it runs bad on newer pcs. it's a hassle to set everything up but it's worth it. there's also a ton of mods and you never have to worry about updating them!
