You turn the corner when you hear him flirting with another girl and roll your eyes. You walk towards the stairs to Nathan’s apartment and raise a brow.

"How old are you again?" You cross your arms, staring at him.

Chris turns around and furrows his brows, confused as to what you’re getting at. "What?"

"How old are you? You're not in high school and yet you're preying on young girls, under the age of eighteen might I add which I believe would make you a pervert." You turn to the girl he’s been talking to and lean in, “you can go now.”

She nods and scoots around him so she can leave.

He scoffs, rubbing his face in annoyance. “Chris Keller is offended and not a pervert."

You lean in closer to him, "would you really prefer it if I called you a pedo?"

His eyes widened. "Man, you're cold."

Your shoulders deflate as your eyes soften, "aw, Brooke taught me well." You spin around and catch her gaze as she walks closer to you, throwing her arm around your shoulders.

"I did and I'm so proud."

You both throw your heads back and chuckle.

He shakes his head, watching the two of you take the lead and walk up the stairs to hangout in your boyfriend's apartment but not before adding, "I know you're checking someone out, you pervert. I would say kiss my ass, but you can't so, suck a d-"

Peyton and Haley have never pulled you away from the railing as fast as they have in all their lives while Brooke throws her head back and laughs, clapping her hands to where it sounds like she’s smacking her hands together.

The guys get out of the car and walk towards the defeated musician. Nathan glances up when he hears your laughter.

He can’t help but chuckle, knowing you had something to do with Chris’ defeated look. "What happened?"

The musician lifts his head, staring at the youngest Scott boy with a defiant attitude.

Before Nathan decided to officially ask you out and not hide his feelings from you, he made sure to put the infamous Chris Keller in his place.

"The one in your hoodie is mean."

The Scott brother's glance at one another and nod.

"Makes sense," Lucas says.

He and Haley always liked your style and the way you carry yourself, which explains why you’ve been friends with them for as long as you have.

It helps him when the other guys on the team want to try and pick on him or if a certain guy who refers to himself in the third person needs to be put in his place. But the downer for those who come across your mean streak is-

"She and Brooke have been hanging out a lot.”

“We've never known someone to have the same amount of brazen personality as Brooke until they met and, as Brooke likes to say, they “clicked”. I’m surprised you made it as far as you have," Nathan adds.

"She hurt Chris Keller's feelings."

"Something tells me, she doesn't care," Nathan tells him before heading up the stairs.

“Tell your brother to control his girl.”

Lucas shakes his head, “I’d rather not. She can get pretty mean if I try to tell her to do something.”

Mouth and Skills chuckle to themselves as they pass him.

“I wouldn’t take what she means to a heart man,” the latter tells him.

The blond pouts. “How would you take it if she called you a perv?”

“I’m not, so I don’t have to worry about it.”

Mouth nudges his friend in the side, causing him to whine. “What he means is, you should watch what you say, or you get the look.”

“The look?”

Mouth nods, “the look.”

The two walk away from him, leaving him to follow behind and see the infamous look that your friend was talking about.

He chuckles and thanks whatever karma was in his side to prevent him from getting a stare down from you.

Something that I love about Nathan and Haley's relationship is the way that they bury the hatchet. Like Lucas keeps record of past mistakes both in his friendships and his romantic relationships. Haley confronts Lucas in season 4 about kissing Peyton for the second time when in a relationship with Brooke and Lucas brings up how she kissed Chris when she was married to Nathan. You might say that's valid but Nathan forgave Haley for that. They are so past that and Haley never made that same mistake twice.

But I digress, this post isn't necessarily about Lucas but I just made that point to really illustrate how great Nathan and Haley are at forgiving each other. After Nathan and Haley go to therapy, Haley never really brings up Nanny Carrie again. She makes one snide comment about naked nannies in the beginning of S6 and then that's it. They do not allow adversity to poison their relationship. The adversity is making the foundation of their relationship stronger but it never completely poisons their relationship. I really respect that. There were plenty of opportunities that Nathan could have trotted out the Chris Keller situation to his advantage. During the Nanny Carrie situation he could have been all like.... Carrie kissed me without my consent but you kissed Chris consentingly but he didn't. He forgave her for the Chris situation, they renewed their vows, and he never brought it up again (BTW I don't believe that Haley consented to the Chris kiss because she was a minor and he was an adult and I don't believe that a child can consent in that situation. But that is just the kind of bullshit that the One Tree Hill writers would write when it comes to Chris. But they didn't with Nathan because Nathan is a stand up dude). And yes I'm gonna bring up Lucas again... in comparison.... Lucas forgave Brooke for sleeping with Chris and then in S3 when he was in hot water with the whole Peyton situation he brought up the Chris situation and used his past forgiveness as a bargaining chip. Once again, Lucas keeps past records of mistakes and pulls them out whenever possible. Okay i'm done about Lucas now I promise lol

I just love how Nathan and Haley's reconciliation progressed in S3. Nathan took his time to forgive but he also didn't hold on stubbornly to bitterness. I've heard some people say that he forgave her too quickly but I vehemently disagree with that. I disagree with the idea that there should be an exact timetable at all. If you feel your anger thawing, do not hold onto the anger. Nathan as much as he was afraid to be vulnerable, still loved Haley and deep down he wasn't 100% ready at any point to annul the marriage/divorce her. That's why he hid the papers from Dan so that Dan couldn't file them. He kept the papers for some time but there was that part of him that wasn't ready to give up on them. He forgave her in his own natural pace and then once he forgave.... he fucking forgave and there was no looking back. It's as if it never happened. Nathan and Haley are the most forgiving, kind, and gracious people ever... with themselves and with their friends.

So, like, here's the thing about this fucking Inception dream sequence. What is happening? Is Nathan dreaming about Haley making out with Brooke after waking up from a nightmare about Lucas and Chris in bed together after Lucas woke up from dreaming about being in bed with Brooke? Because it's a dream within within a dream. I don't know what your subconscious is like Nathan.

Nathan's grin. I mean, technically you've slept with both of them. AND HALEY'S SISTER.

"What is she doing talking to that troll?" "By troll do you mean Peyton?" Oh, Haley. How I love you sometimes.

Because Peyton fucking SUCKS.

Haley having a quiet but profound breakdown. Brooke, "It's OK. Let's just go to the mall." And she is being helpful and it is very sweet but that's also hilarious. Uhhh, sorry that your wedding spot is being destroyed, let's just go to the mall instead. You know? Nothing profoundly sad happens at the mall.

"I can't believe she's doing this." IT WAS A GROUP DATE, LUCAS.

"This guy has caused a lot of trouble, Brooke knows that." Lucas, the people that he caused trouble between WERE WITH HER GETTING INTO THE CAR. YOU SAW THEM.

I swear to god Lucas, I would hit you. SHUT UP.

You feel your heart drop watching Brook's video hugging her as she cries followed by anger at the school for what happened to Jimmy but you feel your heart sink to your stomach and your anxiety go into overdrive when you see yourself. You stand frozen as your capsule plays terrified that your two biggest secrets were going to be exposed not just to your friends and the girl you fell in love with who was one of your longest and closest friends but also to every single person in school, knowing you were going to be bullied even more than you were "I knew I was different but I never knew how much till I fell in love with someone but I know I wouldn't be accepted and I know for a chance that...she doesn't like me back that's one of the fears when you're gay... especially as a woman". Your nerves kick in making you run outside, throwing up in a bush as you break down and sob having all the thoughts you already overthought since you found out about your sexuality flow in your mind, you go to the bathroom wiping your face with paper towels while hiding in a stall trying to keep everything in, feeling drained and numb from the emotional breakdown slowly feeling your body and mind calm down until you walk in the hall, an arm touching your shoulder making you tense up turning to see Lucas. I saw what happened and drove here" you stare at the floor after letting her in "I understand if you don't want to be around me beca-" " I would never do that especially to someone I feel the same for just as long" you look up hugging her until you pull away sharing a kiss spending the night together, walking hand in hand in school with brooke and haley behind the two of you as you get support from classmates and hate from others, the day going well until lucas comes up to the two of you "I was a jerk yesterday and I'm sorry I hope you forgive me" you and peyton look at each other nodding hugging him as he lets a sigh of relief out followed by the three of you smiling when you turn to see nathan apologizing to haley. After getting pushed and even hit by a male classmate you stand up in front of everyone in the cafeteria "Yesterday I came out of the closet, I didn't think equality for gay people would be a thing till God 2055 and from this point on I will not let anyone try to make me be what I am not just for some of you to feel comfortable, I am who I am no matter what!" you earn a standing ovation as lunch finishes leaving with peyton to have a movie night with her at her house.

Drama Queens Podcast a tad too dramatic

Unpopular opinion, but Joy, Hilarie and Sophia are high-key ruining my experience of OTH and destroying my attachment to the show.

During the most recent episode of Drama Queens Podcast, Sophia essentially accused Lucas of taking advantage of Peyton when she was in a vulnerable state in 1x12: "He goes at her (Peyton) physically when she is in a state of dissociative trauma. Her dad might be dead.” Really? Really?! Lucas was there for Peyton as a friend for crying out loud, on Brooke’s request I might add! The guy did not make a single move on Peyton when they spent the night in that motel room. He simply allowed her to confide in him and listened. Lucas messed up an infinite number of times on that show in an infinite number of ways. I’m fine with the girls attacking him on that bs, but what Sophia said here is completely inaccurate. Lucas and Peyton were both EQUALLY wrong in this picture. Heck, Peyton was the one who initiated the kiss, so let’s not portray Lucas as some sort of attacker/manipulator. I’m just not here for that.

In the same podcast episode, Hilarie said: “Peyton went from being with Nathan to being sort of with Luke, now, all of a sudden it’s like this Jake thing happening. It’s like “Is her only value in being with a dude?””

I mean come on! Peyton was single for a whole year after she ended her involvement with Lucas and until Jake returned to town. Why is Hilarie making it sound like her identity revolved around guys?!? That was Brooke for sure, but that was never Peyton. I understand that the girls’ work environment was quite toxic and that there was a lot of unpleasantness behind the scenes, so it must be hard to rewatch OTH through that lens, but it is NOT a reason to ruin it for the fans. Their perspective is so biased. Some of the things they’ve said so far is just plain untrue. Plain untrue. I get they want to take their power back, sort of, because of what they went through while shooting the show, but they are not objective at all and taking some of their comments a little too far.

I am so mad. OTH has been my comfort show, my everything for close to decades, and the way they are now taking it apart… not merely pointing out its flaws, which is absolutely fine, but actually recreating history, reframing scenes to portray them as exceedingly toxic… It’s just… They’re slowly but surely killing something precious as far as I’m concerned.

I'm really tired of listeners taking Hilarie, Sophia and Joy out of context. The maximizing and minimizing of the file is just so my screen would continue to record. 

It starts off with Hilarie upset that Lucas blames her together to Brooke.

And it's really hard to watch.

Hilarie: It's taking advantage of someone who needs a friend really bad. You know, I don't doubt - like Lucas and Peyton are endgame! 

Sophia: Hell ya! 

Hilarie: They saw something in eachother, they felt safe in eachother, it is a  very messy bumpy road to get there.

Joy: And they're teenagers! 

Hilarie: And they're teenagers. You're supposed to screw up, but what he is doing is not okay in 2021 and he admits in this episode! In the bar! You know we got so much shit for calling out Lucas in these episodes for doing this exact thing, and then literally he's in the bar with Nicki and she says, "You got a girlfriend?" and he says, "Well I had two" *Squealing and laughing* He admits it! So for all of you who gave me an earful I hear you and see you, and I give you a night at the blue post! 

Sophia: Absolutely!

The highlighted parts are the parts that people are misquoting huge. I’d like to add that the important part here is that Sophia says “and the energy in this - while I'm not saying that was written for Lucas to do to Peyton - I am saying is that it's on the spectrum of intimate partner abuse. And it's really hard to watch.” She isn’t talking about Lucas physically assaulting or raping Peyton. She’s taking about Lucas’ action being on a spectrum of intimate partner abuse because of the pressure that he canonly puts on Peyton throughout the episodes, and when she’s referring to “He goes at her physically when she is in a state of almost dissociative trauma. Her dad might be dead, she has to go to a morgue to see a dead body and it's a kind of pressure.” Because Peyton is in a vulnerable traumatized state and even if she kissed him he shouldn’t have pushed it to sex. 

Not once does she call Lucas out for assault or physical abuse. She is pointing out red flags that leads to partner abuse to help summarize Hilarie’s thoughts - which all three girls agree with.

There is just something infuriating about Clay so easily looking over Nathan potentially cheating in season 7 + Quinn’s comment in jest about how if she was drinking wine and was Taylor it would so be on between them.

We’ve seen Haley and Lucas have several conversations that involve one of them calling the other out on their behavior. They address the heaviness of the situation while also being loyal to one another anyway, regardless of if their actions were good or bad. It’s rare that things are simply just good or bad but I hope you get what I mean. It happens when Haley catches Lucas and Peyton kissing and it happens when Haley leaves to tour with Chris as two examples.

I point this out because we know the narrative can go there—it can show loyalty between characters without trivializing their actions. But Haley doesn’t get the same courtesy by Clay, or anyone else for that matter, once Lucas is gone. Then we have another James sister joking that if they wanted Nathan, they could have him. It’s such a disservice to Haley’s character and I honestly feel like she gets punished by the narrative because she’s not as sexual.

Ten Years Later, the One Tree Hill Cast Is Setting the Record Straight

Ten years after the finale of One Tree Hill, the actors Hilarie Burton Morgan, Sophia Bush, and Bethany Joy Lenz have never been closer. Despite their shared experience growing up on screen, the trio— who played Peyton Sawyer, Brooke Davis, and Haley James in the heartland-set high school soap for nine seasons—were kept largely isolated from one another during those years.

That distance began to dissipate with age, and when the #MeToo movement alerted the actors to some of their common experiences while working on One Tree Hill. In their new weekly iHeartRadio podcast Drama Queens, the three actors unpack the moments—nostalgic and traumatic alike—that unfolded behind the scenes of the wildly popular drama. To celebrate the podcast’s success, Burton Morgan, Bush, and Lenz joined us for a bit of reminiscing. —BRIAN ALESSANDRO

HILARIE BURTON MORGAN: Sophia, you were the person that called me about a podcast. What was the catalyst for you to be like, “It’s time”?

SOPHIA BUSH: When we first finished the show, I didn’t want to talk about it. I didn’t want to touch it. I didn’t want to be close to it. And then as time went on, and we all started being able to get together, and share stories, and talk some shit. We all finally told each other the stories we’d been afraid to share — I wish we’d been able to have the friendships we have now back then! — and hearing everyone’s stories really made me so furious. It lit that fire in me, and I thought “well, we just have to burn it down.” But, I also had to remember how much our fans love the show, and to realize that despite so much that was insidious we also had fun. We’ve shared stories about what was painful and hard, and I think especially because of what you were put through, I wanted to call you first and just say, like, “Does this idea feel triggering?” You said “No, this feels quite cool.”

BURTON MORGAN: What was your first reaction, Joy?

BETHANY JOY LENZ: I was definitely hesitant about more One Tree Hill anything. But the more we talked about it, I was like, “Wow, this is actually a chance for redemption.” Also, I don’t want to throw shade on the show that did give us amazing opportunities. I always try to temper my frustrations with a good bit of gratitude. But as for the bad stuff, I really do love the opportunity to redeem that. Some of it was us being young and stubborn twenty-year-olds, but a lot of it was the people around us who were using our youth and naïveté to keep us from arguing back. It was always, “Joy, you’re the odd man out. Sophia, you’re the odd man out. Hilarie, you’re the odd man out.” So we never reached out to each other. I’m incredibly grateful for the relationship I with you amazing women now.

BURTON MORGAN: I left the show first, and it was the divorce of my life, because I’d committed so much to being the good soldier. “I’ll do whatever press you want. I’ll go on whatever mall tour.” And so, the loss of that was traumatic. But the next relationship I got into professionally was with White Collar, and the best person I could have ever encountered was Tiffani Thiessen, who was an icon to me. She told me right out of the gate, “Don’t bad mouth the show that got you started. Defend your character, forget the bad guys, take what’s good.” That was such great advice. She was someone whose opinion meant something to me, because she’d been a teen idol of mine. Who were some women on TV that that you felt like we were trying to emulate while we were doing the show?

LENZ: I don’t think I ever really knew how to process it. I actually feel like I missed a lot of the excitement because I kept asking myself what it all meant.

BURTON MORGAN: I was the opposite! I like experience. But I made terrible choices.

BUSH: I’m with Joy. Now, I over intellectualize everything because back then, I was always soaking up all the experiences and I got my ass handed to me. So now I’m like, “What does it mean? What is it all?”

BURTON MORGAN: How many years out are we now? Like 17 years out from the first year?

LENZ: I don’t even know how to process that.

BURTON MORGAN: 18 years out? Jesus, we could have children in college at this point. Why do you think people still care?

LENZ: Comfort food. I mean, that’s it, like especially now that there’s so much content. I can only speak from my experience, but when I settle in to watch TV, I will spend 20 minutes scrolling before saying, “You know what, fuck it,” and turning on Frasier. And that’s what I watch because I know those characters, and I just want that familiarity. I honestly think the over-saturation has played a huge role in our fans’ need for One Tree Hill.

BUSH: And I would also say that there is something about how — as outlandish it got at times — there was also a lot that felt honest. People write to us about how they feel seen, how they feel represented, how they see their own struggles in our show. When I meet new people who are just discovering it and I think, “You could be watching anything! Why? Thank you?”

BURTON MORGAN: Honestly, having an older kid, and seeing the things that he’s drawn to, he loves watching TV shows from our era. Probably the same reason I loved watching Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie and What’s Happening – it’s retro. They’re mystified by it because there’s no social media on our show and so people are actually talking to each other. You actually had to show up at Karen’s Cafe to have that important conversation. It’s a wish fulfillment for these younger kids where they’re like, “Oh, my life doesn’t look anything like that.” We are the time warp, which is super fucked up.

LENZ: And we were also the last show that was doing, dare I say, wholesome content? I mean I know our show, like, jumped the shark several times in many regards, but in terms of the“hometown kids, middle of America, just dealing with regular emotions and life stuff,” those shows became very rare. Everything that came after us was like rich kids—Gossip Girl and The OC, and then it was all brought to a high-concept place like the Vampire Diaries, Riverdale stuff. And I don’t know that there’s anything out there that’s kind of gotten back to the roots, like One Tree Hill.

BURTON MORGAN: Can you imagine pitching One Tree Hill now? Like, “it’s about some kids. Two of them play basketball, and the rest are just moody.”

BURTON MORGAN: What episodes are we all excited to review the most? Some of them are cringey as hell.

BUSH: I’m sure a lot of them will be.

BURTON MORGAN: I like the Halloween episode we did at Tric [the “all-ages” nightclub]. That was batshit. It was 1000 degrees in there and everyone was dying and miserable and we’re dressed up like cartoons.

LENZ: I know. The one with the car, where they made me fucking siphon off gas.

BURTON MORGAN: That was fun cause that was really the first time the three of us were put together.

BUSH: Having to pretend to be high on pills when I never had been, I was like, “I’ll try!” Hilarie, your wedding episode was…

BURTON MORGAN: Christ.

BUSH: That was such a shit show, man. You said the Halloween episode — you’ll cackle when you see we did a Halloween episode after you were gone. And I had to be dressed up as one half of A Clockwork Orange, but was abandoned in my costume, and I was written to be dressed as a giant orange and Carol (Cutshall, costumer) papier-mached a workout ball and drilled armholes in it, and I had to wear it. AND I directed that episode!

BURTON MORGAN: That’s perfect! That’s a chef’s kiss.

BUSH: I had little T-Rex arms, being like, “well, if you go over there” – And they’d say “Where?” And I’d be like, “I can’t show you! I’m stuck in an orange!” It was, it was so humiliating. But when I think back on it, great comedic fodder.

BURTON MORGAN: What is your favorite keepsake from the show?

LENZ: I have the Julius Caesar book that Haley gives to Lucas in the pilot.

BURTON MORGAN: I have the leather jacket that Peyton takes after Ellie [Sheryl Lee] dies. That was an intense crying scene for me. My body has a physical reaction to that jacket.

LENZ: What’s yours, Soph?

BUSH: I have, like, a bin.

BURTON MORGAN: You have everything!

BUSH: There’s like this sad episode where Brooke celebrates her birthday alone in her room with a cupcake. I have the photo album from that scene, which is very sweet because it’s all photos of you and I, Hilarie…

BURTON MORGAN: You have that?

BUSH: Oh yeah, I took that immediately. There are real pictures of us from growing up, because it was this story of these friends who grew up together…

BURTON MORGAN: Joy, we’re gonna photoshop you in.

BUSH: Honestly, we should just make a new one. Of all the stuff that feels sentimental, that “Brooke Davis for President” pin kills me. It’s up on the wall in my office, because it makes me laugh. When I think about why that’s the one thing I’ve displayed—next to a photo of the three of us— it’s because it symbolized something that at the time really embarrassed me, but now I respect. Brooke Davis took the thing she was made fun of for, and turned it into an anthem. She was this bad bitch who owned her shit. That’s something I’ve tried to emulate.

BURTON MORGAN: One thing that I keep thinking is, “we deserve this.”

LENZ: Because we do! It’s hard to say that as women, I think.

BURTON MORGAN: What makes you two feel like we deserve this?

LENZ: Because we’ve worked our asses off, and because it’s beautiful to experience friendship with each other in a way that we were robbed of in our younger days.

BURTON MORGAN: We were really good girls. I’m excited to set things straight.

“Lain?”

It was the week before Rhysand and Feyre’s wedding, and everyone was going out to celebrate. All but Elain, who offered to stay home with Mila so that Azriel could enjoy himself. He’d been on edge too often, lately. He needed a good night out.

Besides, Elain was pregnant and nauseous and the last thing she wanted to do was be out with a bunch of people when she couldn’t drink and was too damn tired to dance. 

“Yes?” Elain asked from where she was perched on the other side of the couch.

“Is the baby in your belly a boy or a girl?”

Elain chuckled. “We don’t know yet. What do you want the baby to be?”

Mila took a minute to think about it. “I don’t care. I just want someone to play with.”

Elain’s smile softened. “Well, soon enough, baby will be here.”

“I be a big sister?” she asked, with hope in her sweet, innocent eyes.

“Sure will,” Elain confirmed. “The best big sister!”

“Is Uncle Azzie going to marry you?” Mila asked. “Like Rhysie and Feyre.”

“Maybe,” Elain said, in all honesty. “But not right now.”

“I want you to marry Uncle Azzie,” Mila said, sighing as she pet Elain’s cat, Ginger. “We could all live together in a big house. Me, you, Uncle Az, and baby.”

Elain watched Mila as she kissed the kitten’s forehead. “I would like that, too.”

“Good,” Mila beamed. “Can we watch t.v.?”

“It’s getting late,” Elain said, huffing a laugh, a hand on her stomach. The morning sickness wasn’t as bad, but it tended to linger throughout the day. 

“Please?” Mila sang, big eyes pleading.

“Alright, but only for a little while,” Elain said. “When i say it’s time for bed, it’s time for bed.”

Mila jumped up on the couch, arms in the air. “Yay!”

Elain turned the station to a kid’s show as she pulled out her phone and texted Azriel, What did this child have for lunch? She has enough energy for all of us.

Azriel’s reply came a second later. Chicken nuggets.

Then, it was followed by, A cherry icee might have happened, too.

Elain laughed to herself as she typed out, Oh, good. Get her all sugared up then leave her with the pregnant woman.

“Lain, do you have ice cream?”

Elain shook her head. “How about an apple?”

Mila groaned. “Fine.”

As Elain went into the kitchen, her phone vibrated in her hoodie pocket. Azriel had said, I can always come home. I’m only ten minutes down the road if you need me.

Have fun, Elain had texted back. Enjoy yourself. We’re good over here. After adding a green heart emoji, she pressed send. 

After washing an apple and cutting it into slices, Elain walked back into the living room, where Mila was snoring, using Ginger as a pillow. Shaking her head, Elain took her place at the other end of the couch.

When she pulled her phone out of her pocket, it read, Kiss Mila and the baby goodnight for me.

Elain’s cheeks turned pink as she smiled. Every night, Azriel pressed his soft lips to Elain’s stomach, to the bump that had formed there.

I will, Elain had typed back. Always.

“I feel bad for leaving Elain,” Feyre frowned. “She deserves to have fun, too.”

“She offered,” Nesta reminded her. “Besides, she’s been up at the crack of dawn puking her guts up. The woman needs to take sleep when she can find it.”

Feyre agreed before taking another shot.

Shots were on Mor, and the rounds kept coming. Feyre had already texted Rhysand once, to see where Cassian and Azriel were taking him, but he had replied that he didn’t know, that it was a surprise, and that he was scared shitless because any surprise that involved Cassian was asking for trouble.

Feyre didn’t disagree. 

“One week from today,” Amren began, eyes bright, intoxicated, “you’ll be a married woman.”

“Any idea where you’re going for the honeymoon?” Mor asked. “Rhys let anything slip?”

“Not a thing,” Feyre groaned. “And it’s been driving me crazy.”

“Any guesses?” Nesta asked.

Feyre took a second to think about it. Yes, she had guessed a few times over the past weeks, but Rhysand had let nothing slip. “My guess is Adriata. He knows I love the beach.”

And even now, as Autumn was beginning, Adriata was as warm and sunny as ever. But every time Feyre had guessed as much, Rhysand just shrugged and said, Guess you’ll have to wait and find out.

The handsome bastard. 

“You know what we should do?” Mor asked, then looked to Nesta. “Designated driver, pull the car around, please. We have to get the bride prepared for her honeymoon.”

Feyre groaned, but Nesta was already on her feet, hurrying out the door.

Five minutes later, they were gathered together in Nesta’s car, driving down Main Street. 

“Where are you taking me now?” Feyre asked, exasperated.

“You’ll see,” Mor crooned.

The endless list of surprises was about to drive Feyre insane.

They pulled up to a little lingerie shop and dragged Feyre out of the car.

“Is this necessary?” she asked. “Rhysand prefers me naked.”

Mor rolled her eyes as Amren said, “You can’t go on your honeymoon without a solid selection of overpriced lingerie.”

Feyre laughed, unable to argue as they entered the shop.

The room was filled with lace and silk, varying in styles and choices.

“Fine,” Feyre sighed. “Everyone pick out something and I’ll get it, no questions asked, but after this, we drink!”

Feyre was answered with laughter and hollering as she crashed in a chair near the dressing room. 

She would be married, Rhysand’s wife, in one week. It almost didn’t seem real. Everything was going so well, so smoothly, so beautifully, even with the rushed planning.

One week, with her girls by her side, and apparently a bag packed full of lingerie, ready to go wherever the hell Rhys was taking her after the ceremony... She would be her best friend’s wife.

 The back of Cassian’s truck was down, a twelve pack of shitty beer sat on the unhitched gate, and rock music poured from the radio as the three friends played basketball on the small court along the Sidra. 

Rhysand’s mom used to take the three of them there, from the time they were in middle school and fell in love with the sport. It had always been a safe haven, so it made sense why his two closest friends would gather an ass-ton of beer and take him to the court for some bonding before he got hitched in a week.

Cassian had a beer can pressed to his lips as he dribbled the ball to the free-throw line. 

“Anything new about Eris?” He asked.

Azriel cleared his throat. “No, but Amarantha calls and leaves a voicemail every other day, claiming the prick won’t give up. Which, I believe. Eris isn’t the type to be told he can’t have something and drop it.”

Azriel had gone to court a few days prior, and Eris had left furious after he’d been granted nothing. It was a win, but Rhysand could tell Azriel’s worry lingered.

“No matter what happens, she’s going to get older, you know? Eventually, she’ll have questions about them both, and I’m going to be the bad guy for saying, your mom’s in prison, and your dad’s a dick. Sorry, can’t see either of them.”

“Doesn’t make you a bad person for wanting to protect her,” Rhysand said. Cassian raised his beer in agreement.

“So I hear,” he mumbled, and surely Elain had been constantly telling him the same thing. “Nervous?” Azriel asked, where he stood beneath the hoop, undoubtedly hoping to get the conversation off of him.

“About playing against Cassian?” Rhysand asked. “Hardly.”

Azriel chuckled. “About getting married, dumbass.”

Rhysand grinned. “Not really. Nothing to be nervous about.” 

People were still around, the sun yet to have completely sink down, walking or jogging along the walk by the river. None of them seemed to care that they were drinking in a public area, or that their music was obnoxiously loud. 

“I’d be nervous,” Cassian muttered, throwing his empty can at his truck bed - and completely missing. 

“If you were marrying Nesta?” Rhysand asked. “Fuck, any man would be nervous. Or, you know, completely terrified.” 

Cassian snorted, but didn’t deny it. “About getting married in general. Everyone staring up at you, watching you stare lovingly into each other’s eyes as you proclaim your love…”

Azriel laughed, taking the ball away from Cassian and dribbling it up to half court. “That’s bullshit, you love attention.”

Cassian’s grin only widened. Rhysand said nothing as he watched Azriel dribble up to the three point line, all he could do is laugh as Cassian took a step forward to block his shot, but stumbled.

And yet, Azriel shot the ball and it missed the backboard by a foot.

Maybe they’d all had more to drink than they had thought. 

But none of them chased that ball as it rolled off the court, and out onto the grass, near the riverwalk.

Where a young man picked it up, saw Rhysand, Cassian, and Azriel, and grinned.

So did his companion. 

Rhysand froze, and Cassian started charging forward, but Azriel quickly grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him back.

Tamlin chuckled. “That’s right, control your bitch.”

He and Eris stopped at the edge of the court.

Those walking past must have sensed the tension, because they began receiving strange looks as they stood atop the court in silence. 

And yet, they all kept walking past. 

“I hear you’re getting married next week,” Tamlin went on, strutting onto the court, ball bouncing on the concrete. “I suppose I should congratulate you. And my beautiful Feyre.”

Rhysand said nothing, but Cassian spat, “Leave.”

“How about we play?” Eris suggested, but he was looking at Azriel. “It’s been a while since we played.”

“You’re not welcome here,” Azriel said.

“Where is my daughter, by the way?” Eris said, looking around. “With your whore, no doubt.”

Now it was Cassian’s turn to grab Azriel by the arm. It only made Eris’s grin wider and far more wicked. 

“We don’t want trouble,” Rhysand said, plainly. “Give us our ball back and go.”

Tamlin did no such thing. “I think a game would be fun. Me and Eris against Cassian and Az. Rhysand, you could referee. Wouldn’t want you getting injured so close to your big day. Feyre will need you to be able to...perform. We all know how needy she is in bed, especially on her wedding night.”

Rhysand’s jaw hardened. “Why are you here, Tam?”

“We were walking by,” he said, shrugging. “We can’t stop and say hello?”

“No,” Cassian said, plainly.

“Then perhaps we’ll stop and say hello at the wedding, instead,” Tamlin crooned. “I hear it’s not far from here. By the woods, along the Sidra…”

“If you show up at the wedding-” Rhysand growled, but he was cut off.

“You’ll what?” Eris laughed. “Ask us to leave like you’re doing now? How’s that approach working for you?”

“I’ll handle it,” Cassian said, voice low. “And, considering the state I left you two in after our last encounter, you know that’ll end.”

Eris’ smile faded. “You were lucky, filled with that unholy rage that’s landed you in a jail cell more times than I can count.”

Cassian took a step forward, and this time, Azriel didn’t stop him. “You know what you’re problem is?” Cassian asked, looking between the two of them. “You grow up, spoiled, getting everything you’ve ever wanted, and now, you have this unwavering entitlement that makes you think you’re fucking invincible.” He took another step forward. “But you’re not. One day, you’ll get what’s coming to you, and your daddys won’t be there to help you out.” 

Tamlin grinned as he met Cassian in the lane, closing the distance between them. “Spoken like a true bastard, who killed his own mommy and whose daddy didn’t want him.”

Cassian’s body went still.

Azriel’s face went pale.

Yes, Cassian had a lot of anger. And that anger came from somewhere. And that somewhere was just declared, outright, from Tamlin’s mouth.

Cassian didn’t talk about it, but Rhysand and Azriel knew. In high school, Cassian had found his mother dead in their living room. Then, unable to handle the pain of loss, he fled for weeks and no one saw him. The rumors that came from that were unbearable. But that’s all they were, of course, fucked up rumors.

That Rhysand was certain Tamlin and Eris had been the ones to spread.

“You need to leave,” Rhysand warned.

But Tamlin didn’t move.

Nor did Eris.

Instead, Eris pulled a small knife out of his pocket and flicked it open. He used the sharp tip to clean the dirt out from under his fingernails.

Utter rage consumed Azriel’s face. 

That man was Mila’s father.

Cassian was unleashed.

He instantly tackled Tamlin to the ground, Cassian’s fist colliding with his jaw. Then Eris was on the move, charging at Azriel, but he stood his ground.

Rhysand’s can fell out of his hand, spilling across the pavement as he moved toward them, one foot in front of the other, to where Tamlin now had Cassian held down, just barely, by his throat.

What happened after that was a blur of blood and chaos.

Women who walked past walked by quickly, and a few men eventually came to try and break it up, but they were only swept into the fight themselves.

It became an all out war.

“Call the police!” a woman yelled, and Rhysand had hardly heard her above the madness surrounding him, above the pounding in his ears. 

He had just brought a man down that had gotten him good in the nose when Rhysand spun around, and saw it.

Eris had Azriel pinned against the ground by his knees, one hand holding his face still, the other holding that knife to Azriel’s neck.

Azriel laid perfectly still, breathing hard. Any movement, and the blade would get him.

Rhysand screamed Eris’ name, but when he started to run that direction, he was caught by a random jogger who threw him against the court. Cassian was still tumbling around with Tamlin, completely unaware of what was happening outside of their feud.

It was then that a middle-aged man, who should have been nowhere near the court, stepped behind Eris and tried to haul him off of Azriel.

But Eris was strong, much stronger. He pulled the knife away from Azriel’s neck, only to push the man down with such force that Rhysand could hear him hit the concrete. Rhysand was already on his feet, moving as quickly as he could toward the scene, but he was still too far away.

Azriel took Eris’ distraction to his advantage, though. He grabbed the knife from Eris’ hand and stabbed him in the side. Eris cried out in agony, but Azriel was pushing Eris off of him, and was hurrying to the middle-aged man lying on the concrete, hazel eyes full of horror. 

“Call a fucking ambulance!” he screamed, his voice so loud, so panicked, that the fight surrounding them began to dissipate.

Even Tamlin looked at the sight, looked at Azriel hovering over the man, in horror.

Because he knew that man.

Cassian’s face paled as he dropped Tamlin to the concrete and, blood running from his nose, ran to his truck for his phone. 

Because lying on the ground, still as stone, was Isaac Archeron.

Im watching oth and I wonder Do you think that the cursed storyline of ba on rvd have some similarity to the leyton one (s1&s3?). And do you think that could follow the same path?

Hello lovely! 

No, because teens shows aren't writing 1:1 of each other. Formulas aren’t “this happened in one show so it has to happen in another” it’s a repeatable, predictable story arc we all know because it’s been repeated longer than we’ve been alive. 

Like, it’s about overall themes and arcs. Is Harry Potter just a wizard Star Wars? Yeah. Kind of. Because of the themes. It’s not because JKR ripped off George Lucas, it’s because the Hero’s Journey is a thing and Star Wars isn’t original in that aspect either. 

And if you wanted to 1:1 it, it wouldn’t even be the same because Lucas picked Peyton first, poor Brooke was always second choice. I get why it seems that way, tbh, it’s the love triangle aspect, but I think the fact that the writers of OTH consistently wrote Peyton and Lucas orbiting around each other throughout the seasons is being discounted. 

If anything, the only way I can see Riverdale being closer to OTH is if they had written Archie suppressing his feelings for Veronica while dating Betty in s1 and beyond until it all blew up in their faces. And, then, Betty gets her own happy ending after that. 

We can parallel a lot of teen show relationships but if I was going to for bughead on OTH, it would be Nathan and Haley. They got together, had one big blowout separation (with Haley kissing another guy, even) and then did a slow burn season getting them back together. But that’s the way I see it. It’s subjective, of course, but I think the mistake is taking a small part of someone else’s puzzle and applying it liberally to something else because it might be in the same color range. From far away, it might look alright, but under scrutiny, it’s not a match.

though peyton was adopted, her parent’s never told her about it and she didn’t find out until she was a teenager. her adoptive mother, anna, who she was very close to, died when she was young and it affected how she viewed the world. 

her father was always away for work, and instead of putting peyton out of the home she was allowed to stay alone in their house. she even had a webcam / website set up. it was something that allowed her father to be able to check in from where he was. but it was also just a way for peyton to connect with the world. 

though the website punk & disorderly was active for quite some time, it was also the cause of some issues in her life ( see: opening herself up to a stalker being in her life due to information on the webcast ). and eventually peyton disabled the camera. -- but that doesn’t come until later. 

peyton was a bit reckless at times, often thinking about how her mom died when she was so young. 

peyton was always close with her best friend brooke, despite the two of them being from opposite sides of the area -- and their personalities seemingly clashing. but it was something that seemed to work out. brooke was always the sister that peyton never had, the family that she had while her father was out of town. 

she always found solace in her artwork, despite never sharing it with anybody. and music meant everything to her as well ( the saddest song to her is still celebration by kool and the gang ) 

her first serious relationship was with nathan scott ( which is funnier considering she went on to marry his brother lol ) but they were a total mess for each other. they constantly fought and it was a bit of breaking up and getting back together and everything else. 

while her first real relationship was with nathan, who she dated right away in high school, her first love was probably jake jagielski. despite the messy tumultuous moments of will they / wont they of herself and lucas ( and the love triangle of herself / lucas / brooke ), she definitely fell for jake first and had a big moment of the one who got away when he had to leave. 

peyton finally got to know her biological mother, ellie, when she was a teenager. but it was hard on her knowing that ellie was sick--and even more of a shock to lose not only her adoptive mom when she was a kid, but ellie as well. 

during the shooting, peyton was shot in the leg and nearly bled out. in a moment of weakness she kissed her best friend’s boyfriend in that moment too. it was awful and weighed on her.  

after everything happened, peyton went to visit jake and jenny thinking it would help her--but it wound up making everything worse. 

in fact, the fracture between peyton and brooke got worse and she almost thought that their friendship would never be back to the way that it was. 

when everything happened, peyton thought she met her brother derek. but it turned out that he was actually just a stalker. and eventually she did meet her real brother. 

eventually lucas and peyton got together, going off to la after high school together for the summer before school started up, but it wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine ( nothing with peyton ever is ). 

after their breakup, peyton couldn’t stop picking up and purchasing every copy of lucas’ book from every store she passed. it was like a compulsion that she couldn’t seem to pass up. 

when she came back to tree hill and found out that lucas was with somebody else, it was weird for her. especially when she started red bedroom records in the back of tric -- continuing to keep herself connected to lucas despite knowing she needed to pull herself away. 

despite it all, she and lucas wound up back together -- and they eventually got married and had their daughter ( sawyer brooke scott ). 

of course atm, unlike canon, she’s separated from lucas, but they’re still coparenting sawyer. 

so being here away from her daughter is weird for her, but she’s adjusting to it all.

OTH 2X16 REWATCH

2. How long has Keith even known Jules?

3. “Nathan, none of this means anything if I can’t share it with you” and yet you didn’t ask him to come on tour? People bring their significant others on tour all the time and I think this is what bothers me about Haley’s arc this season, because Haley is acting the way Joey acted with Dawson but their situations are completely different. Joey had been in love with Dawson for effectively her entire life and she’d been his sidekick, his sounding board, his everything so that when they finally got together, she freaks out and wants to figure out who she is without him (and she didn’t handle that well either but I could at least understand what was going on with her even if she didn’t communicate it well to Dawson). Haley and Nathan JUST got married, she even says that she’d always been the dependable one and the responsible one until she married him and she finally did something for her so there is no reason why she didn’t ask him not to come along. She also never explained why she kissed Chris, she lied about it, finally admitted it and left Nathan to go on tour the same night she admitted it and is acting super indignant that he’s not exactly thrilled and it just makes her obnoxious.

was it just me or did lucas gaslight peyton in s5? like he really blamed her for the way things ended even though she literally never said she didn't want to marry him then he just left her in that hotel room bc he didn't get what he wanted. he went home & told haley that peyton rejected him so the ppl in their lives go on believing lucas' warped pov for like 3 years. it bothers me to no end that peyton & brooke fought over him for almost 2 years when he's like *that*

ooooh boy, okay, i 100% agree with you? i feel a little bad discussing leyton though, cause i don’t really ship them so i might look at them with some biased eyes of dislike (sorry friends, i don’t mean to, i’m literally just answering with my opinion). 

but anyway. i don’t understand why they thought that lucas should be the one with the upper hand on s5. like, i get it, he was confused and hurt when she said she didn’t want to marry him now, but he was just “ok then bye” which is something so...???....to do with the one you want your dreams coming true with?? then he proceeds to immediately call his ex 😭 and have a fake-date with her and kiss her while crying about being lost without peyton....then why didn’t you stay and talk to her in the morning, lucas?? *sighs* he was such a mess most of the time. then he goes and tells everyone things happened the way they happened, poor peyton has to see him getting to live another relationship right in front of her salad and being the most hurtful to her as if she had done something extremely wrong in being honest with him about not being on the same page about getting married at 19? he literally punished her while trying to move on and---i don’t know. 

i think leyton scenes in season five were soooo epic and amazing, their chemistry was more on point than it had been since s1 and even loving brucas with all my heart i felt for them, but i didn’t understand how it was supposed to be lucas’s choice again. hadn’t he already chosen? why was brooke still a option after so many years? like i get that the point was peyton to regret not choosing him but...we had already done that in s1 and s3 with brooke 😭 i can’t understand why such an unbalance you know? sighs. i don’t know. it’s hard, like i said, i am biased. 

also, poor lindsay. she was a good person and didn’t deserve to be tossed around in that position. i like lucas, despite it all, but he was the messiest of messes haha. team jeyton!

Analyzing Leyton in Season 1 (this is a rant, btw)

First of all, I’d just like to point out that I love Peyton, and Lucas was my favorite male character for the first three seasons. That being said, I hate Leyton and this post is not dedicated to their shippers (feel free to read it if you want, I don’t mean to disrespect anyone, I just think you’re not gonna like it lol). Also I do like Brucas but I’m not standing on the ‘they should’ve been endgame’ team, I could’ve easily accepted them not being together anymore (specially because I fully respect Sophia’s position to not wanna do those kinds of scenes with Chad anymore) - if the writers hadn’t done such a terrible job telling us ‘Leyton’ was the Real Thing.

On this post, I’ll discuss Leyton’s construction during the first season of One Tree Hill and I intend to do future posts with the other seasons as well. If you want to check out the next ones, follow the ‘anti leyton analysis’ tag (or just follow me lol I promise you I’m very nice).

Season 1

Okay so, for starters, I’ll just point out that I wasn’t actively anti-Leyton at the beginning of the show, I just didn’t mind them. They did have some cute moments together and I could understand their dynamic, it was belieavable.

I also specifically enjoy their bickering, like how when Lucas flirts with Peyton and she cuts him off by being mean (which is sort of her way of flirting back) and the opposite happens as well.

The reason why I didn’t really care for them is because I never saw anything really meaningful happening there. Their interest is nothing more than platonic. Lucas likes the idea of Peyton since he never even talked to her before; Peyton on the other hand is getting out of an abusive relationship and is just kind of intrigued by this guy who seems very different than her current boyfriend, who also happens to be Lucas’ brother (and rival). Their angst only exists because of that specific circumstance.

When there is finally nothing standing in their way and they can just be together, without the teasing, this happens:

Peyton has a change of heart only after Lucas is dating Brooke, which obviously hightens her feelings because now it’s forbidden again. To me, personally, that is not a sign of love or romanticism. That is a sign of having your ego hurt - and I don’t mean to shame Peyton, I’m only pointing out the most common human behavior ever. Feeling a little something for someone and having it a million times stronger after you can’t have them is something we’ve all been through and it doesn’t necessarily prove we have a deep connection to that person. So of course there is tension when they talk, in the first episodes she’s with Nathan and later they’re cheating on Brooke. Leyton’s angst is always a result of someone else standing in their way and never of the pure intensity of their feelings.

Even so, in theory, Leyton still seems better than Brucas. I mean, if you only heard the story, you would definitely not be a Brucas shipper because Lucas’ feelings for her apparently do not compare to what he feels for Peyton (even if it’s based on his own idealized perception of her and not on who she actually is, since they barely know each other but whatever). As a matter of fact, he gets together with Brooke right after Peyton dumps him, and that’s not exactly the best place to start off with someone.

The thing is, and that is why I already leaned towards Brucas, they have way better chemistry.

Leyton just always seems off-sync to me. For example, in 1x07, this is Peyton inviting Lucas to Nathan’s party. It’s supposedly a flirty moment and yet their faces:

tbh I genuinely thought Peyton had way more chemistry with Haley (and with a lot of female characters for that matter, I didn’t get my hopes up because this show is really straight but Peyton had a very strong gay vibe):

While this is Brooke and Lucas interacting later on that same episode. Brooke is actively hitting on him and he is trying to reject her to go talk to Peyton (but ARE YOU REALLY, Lucas? I mean...

Anyway. 

Now to the kisses. Lucas and Peyton’s first kiss is just very, very uncomfortable, both narratively (she only kisses him in order to piss off Brooke, which is pretty lame) and visually (just LOOK AT THAT). 

I can actually feel a little pain watching this because she pushed his head with such rudeness and it doesn’t even seem like he’s enjoying it, it’s not like ‘wait what- wooooww, I like this’, looks like he’s trying to get away from that, he even pushes his arms back.

But okay, maybe that’s not the best example. Let’s get a moment where there was reciprocity.

I mean it’s fine. 

As opposed to when Lucas and Brooke kiss:

At their first kiss they are so consumed by each other’s eyes we feel like they’ll start ripping off their clothes right there. And then at the pool kiss, they both just look genuinely happy and that is another point that distinguishes Leyton and Brucas so much for me: Brucas just seems very lighter and easy-going, they always look like they’re having a good time together. We also got to see them be a couple and spend quality time together and just enjoy each other’s company.

While Leyton for me was rooted in guilt, tension and awkwardness, we barely never see them just hanging out or having cute moments.

And finally, another point that I will explore better in my seasons 2 and 3 analysis, how could anyone care about Leyton when we had THIS:

Even though the show didn’t focus on Jeyton that much I really like the fact that they’re a slowburn and that their relationship was just rooted in how much they liked being together. Peyton babysitted Jenny just because she wanted to and Jake found comfort in her while he was struggling with being a teenage single parent and later with Nikki trying to steal his daughter from him. Here we have better angsty because it’s not that the characters are playing games and refusing to be together out of pride, it’s not that another love interest gets in the way, and to me it doesn’t feel like it’s about their ego, they simply get more and more attached to each other and enjoy the time they spend together and actually start off as friends which I think is really beautiful.

This is what I have to say about Season 1. Even though I already didn’t ship Leyton at that point (and thought both Jeyton and Brucas had better potential), I could still see that it made sense for the show to place them together on Season 2 and it wouldn’t bother me that much. But then... (Wait for my season 2 analysis)
